This is surprising and lovely news. Page Six says that Rosario Dawson, 35, has adopted a daughter. Her daughter isn’t a baby though – Rosario has apparently adopted a 12-year-old girl! We rarely hear about celebrities adopting older children, and this serves as a reminder that there are so many older children in need of a home as well.
Rosario Dawson is a new mom. The 35-year-old actress adopted a 12-year-old girl in October, a source tells Page Six. Dawson, who was adopted by her stepfather Greg Dawson when she was 1, has been vocal in the past about her plans, telling Latina magazine in 2008 that she planned to adopt.
“That idea has stayed in the back of my head, but lately, I’ve been thinking about it more,” the “Top Five” star told the mag, explaining, “My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they’re getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going, ‘Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could’ve known her.’ . . . Whatever time I have, I want it.”
Dawson, who has sat as an event chair for OrphanAid Africa, split with “Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle in 2013 and is single. Her rep didn’t get back to us.
I always forget that she had relationship with Danny Boyle. She also had a somewhat brief fling with Michael Fassbender at some point, although I don’t think it was anything serious. It was more like he was rebounding from Nicole Beharie. Anyway, I’m happy for Rosario and I hope she enjoys motherhood. Good for her!

Oh, that is wonderful! so many of my friends were adopted as toddlers and older kids, and growing up around them and hearing their stories, I know how difficult it is for older children, esp once you hit the double digits, to get adopted. I hope people considering adoption see her story and think about becoming parents to an older child.

Awww, I love Rosario for this. My hero. I want to adopt older kids (preteens at least) when I get a little older. I never thought much of her acting, but I love this. I wish more celebrities would adopt ‘older’ kids. I hope this will start a ‘trend’…

You never hear about it either unless she’s specifically aiming for donations, which to me, speaks volumes about her as an activist/ advocate.
She’ll be an amazing mom and I love that she adopted someone in this particular age bracket, if anyone is up for the challenge, it’s her!
I didn’t know that about her, @Maria-that is really great work she is doing. I think it’s wonderful to adopt, and adopting an older child is so admirable. I know that it is more difficult for older kids to find an adoptive parent/s. This girl and Rosario have all my best wishes!

It is very nice, although you have to be prepared to deal with problems you might now have to deal with when you adopt a 2 year old. At that age you are concious that those aren’t your birth parents from the start, and if you come from a foreign country it can be very daunting to have to learn a foreign language in a second so you can attend school. She seems like a very level-headed person though, so I wouldn’t worry.
It is difficult to get adopted when you’re older, but it’s also difficult for parents to adopt older kids. Some family friends lost their kids, so years later they decided to adopt from Ukraine. They prefered younger kids, but were a little open. The orphanage actually wanted to get rid of older kids (or so it seemed), and they only proposed 16 year old kids with very young siblings, as in “You get a young kid but then you have to deal with this rebellious tennager; you win, we win”. Even if they acepted, the older kids never wanted to be adopted. I understand them; I mean, they’re 16, they already have a live, and they want to take them to a foreign country and start calling some stranger papa? That has to be weird as fuck.

I always get emotional after hearing stories like this. I wish I would be able to adopt in the future but in my country you have to earn twice as much as I ever was, to be able to do it and money is always the deciding factor. I know one family who adopted a boy only to give him back to the orphanage after 7 years or so, when he was about 10-years old, because the “mother” (she doesn’t deserve to be called it) got pregnant and they preferred their biological child over a stranger – their words, and never wanted to have two kids. Effing sociopaths but rich ones. The boy was so sweet and they broke his heart. I hope Rosario and her daughter will have a wonderful, loving time together and be able to quickly overcome any barrier that usually is at the beginning with the new parents and adopted children.
