Duchess Kate wore a black & cream Goat coat in Harlem: mod & cool?

130043PCN_RoyalDuchess02

This is just a quickie since the photos have just come in! Duchess Kate met with NYC’s First Lady, Chirlane McCray, just a short time ago and they went to the Northside Centre for Child Development in Harlem. I have to say, Mrs. McCray looks amazing here. That color is beautiful on her! Kate decided to go for a mod look with this black-and-cream Goat coat. Goat showed this coat as part of a pantsuit, just FYI. Kate loves to show off her legs, I’m just saying. Here’s video of Kate’s arrival:

While at the Northside Center, Kate helped to wrap Christmas presents.

Meanwhile, William was already in Washington DC to meet Pres. Obama (again, they’ve met before). There’s video of William and Pres. Obama together in the Oval Office. William seems pretty relaxed here – it’s like Obama is the uncomfortable one. Apparently, William told the president that “he forgot to check” to see if Prince George was a boy or girl when he was born. Weird.

NYC’s First Lady wins the coat game! Love coat and prefer her tights, too.

    • grimmsfairytale says:

Yes. My eyes were on the purple coat, not Kate.
      thunder stolen!

      • wolfpup says:

The purple coat looks a more proper length. Why does Kate need to show off her body parts so often?

      • BooBooLaRue says:

Ohhhhhhhhhhh I love that purple coat so much I am green! Kate: get a hair cut.

      • Pippa Mids says:

        Outclassed for sure.

Waity need to dress her age, mom and wife of ( however short span), and pattern off Jolie Pitt public designer and length official dress.

She is not a young single B*E with short clothes. And the heel with her bump- cold can have ice on the pavements, etc

PR is busy guiding Wills to look close to doolittle – phony is obvious – even his hand on her back on arrival, she lokked at him if she could play to camera with her hand on him.

. PW must love being in DC alone instead of the fake smiles, etc around Waity (serrious instead of vacation look!).

      • Vylette says:

That was my first thought too! I loved the purple coat!

    • Esmom says:

Yes, and her booties are better than Kate’s pumps. Although I’m sure Kate would never wear booties, I’m sure they’re against the royal dress code.

      • Bucky says:

Kate wears booties all the time. She wore some last night.

      • Esmom says:

Guess I’ve missed them, thanks. They would have looked good here, I think.

      • Pippa Mids says:

CP Mary wore similar booties and was very elegant .

If hairdresser went along where is Deacon, P Georgie and his mommy/nanny Maria…

Waity don’t want to be seen pregnant hence, the closed coats. Bump- then no bump – like padded bum sis.

Her arm is still bruised from IV feedings, ambulance around 24/7. This baby still in distress from doolittle poor nutrition, still she travel the distance to show her fake and insincerity for charity – which she avoid at home! And avoid HM RF duty in Malta ( not enough shops or filled with celebrities). P Wills seem fake with Waity + PR !

    • layla says:

I need her ankle boots. STAT!

    • Lovelee412 says:

Why doesn’t Kate ever wear boots, booties, anything but the same heels here, her nude ones, or the dreaded wedges! 🙁 I am sure she owns them..but is she just not allowed to wear flashy shoes!? Lol Just disappointing, that is all. Maybe future queens are only allowed to wear bland shoes?? Well, then I won’t be signing up for that job. Ha!

  2. Jackson says:

Love Kate’s coat. Very cool, nicely mod.

    • Esmom says:

It is but I think Kate’s unmod hairstyle takes away from whatever chic-ness it might otherwise convey.

    • someonestolemyname says:

I love NYC’s First Lady’s coat. Loved the pop of color and fit, very nice.

I love Kate’s coat too, it’s cute but with a classic edge.
Kate seems much warmer at the Harlem outing, she performed well.

    • Abbott says:

Someonestolemyname is malfunctioning 🙂 Will someone unplug her and plug her back in?

    • someonestolemyname says:

🙂 Thank u…help…..the computer repeated my posts several times when I pushed the submit comment button.

  3. perplexed says:

Are there any pictures of large crowds coming to see Kate and William like there was with Charles and Diana? (or, er, well, Diana?) Where are the other people?

    • Abbott says:

In Kate’s clip, there was mention that the crowds were being kept a bit further back because they were worried about the protests(?)

      • perplexed says:

Oh. Just watched the clip. She did seem pretty warm and friendly to the First Lady of NYC.

A pregnant Kate Middleton looks like a thin everyone else (or thin Hollywood everyone else, at least). That’s not a slam — actually it’s more of fascination, I think. I wouldn’t guess she was pregnant unless someone pointed out to me that she’s with child, and then proceeded to show some changes in her face as proof of what they’re telling me.

      • someonestolemyname says:

The truth is They aren’t pulling the kind of Crowds Diana did.

I spoke to some journos on the scene and they say there are a smattering of people who gather.

I asked a friend who lives near the hotel was he going to walk down the street and see them yesterday, he didn’t even know what the heck I was talking about and said No, when I told him.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Someonestolemyname•

Very few people can command crowds like Diana did….

      • perplexed says:

The crowds for Kate and Wills look unusually small in relation to the coverage they get. Charles and Camilla don’t get large crowds but they don’t get this kind of press either for travelling somewhere.

      • Jules says:

It appears the media cares more about this couple than most people do.

      • Pippa Mids says:

People /the world over is on to P Wills Waity ma middleton phoney marriage – workshy to the people at home.

Waity don’t command respect – P Wills may get a pass as blood royal Di son, but Doolittle and ma middleton and the workless Waity game is a big turn off – the monarchy will be in trouble with these two (Waity middleton nott mature for the role, wife and mom to PG and bump). Her clothes is a reflection of her lack of maturity, royal wife of… comfort. Zone of college level is still with ma carole and buckleberry.

They may fool Hollywood celeb types, but NY is ‘hard’ to win over. Tourist were mostly at hotel and Brit expats.

  4. LadySlippers says:

I adore Kate’s hair but am not nuts about her ensemble. It’s almost a spot on replication of her Peter Pan outfit she wore when she was 5/6 months preggers with George. Didn’t like that one and am not any more thrilled with this one.

    *yawn*

The mayor’s wife looked fantastic though.

    • wolfpup says:

She lacks sophistication, in my opinion. She dresses like a girl, with the peter pan collar and short length; yet she is a woman. She is at the glam age of wardrobe fun – yet she sticks out, rather, her legs stick out. It seems sort of inappropriate compared to the length that other women are wearing, to visit with her. (Just a tad bit undignified).

Funny, in conversation with William, Pres Obama wanted to get away from the topic of baby boy genitalia; certainly not world leader kind of stuff. Obama did look uncomfortable, perhaps he had better things to do.

      • someonestolemyname says:

I hate her teeny bopper girl demeanor and dressing at times, I think Kate is trying to stay University sweetheart Coed look and demeanor for William. LOL

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Someonestolemyname•

I don’t think she’s trying to keep William — I think she’s never matured past college fashion because she doesn’t have a lot of work experience to rely on. Most of us that worked post college, went through a normal maturation process as we climbed the ladder.

      • AntiSocialButterfly says:

Maybe just his damn reflux, lol (though as a fellow sufferer, not really a laughing matter).

    • LadySlippers says:

      •wolfpup•

Also lacks imagination. Most of us have our ‘tried and true’ looks but none are critiqued on a world stage either. Kate seriously needs a stylist. I bet if someone had the time — they could chart her half a dozen looks quite easily.

I said down below that the William/Barack interview seemed odd. Both men seemed strained….I wonder what else was going on to give it that feeling.

      • someonestolemyname says:

        Yes! LadySlippers “This” indeed.

      • Pippa Mids says:

        Lady
        +1M

Waity stuck in college years – dorm bed, luxury vacay with the middletons sibs – with a Prince aristo friends. So we’re left with the grinning and flashing, etc….

Lady Di PoW even as a Title aristo still work around intelligent, responsible people – caring for their children – an Ambassador household, etc.

    • notasugarhere says:

Another inappropriate outfit (too short and too much black for a visit with kids).

      http://www.goatfashion.com/new-in/washington-coat-blacknude

The sideways chunk of black fabric at the hem is an odd addition. Originally $1000 plus the bespoke changes to add the fabric – but not enough added to make it an appropriate length to wear with the mini-dress she has underneath. If you’re going to have them do that bespoke, why not pay them to make the whole thing from scratch – at the correct length. She is clearly spending a lot of time and money on these clothes and she’s still getting it wrong.

      • YankLynn says:

Wow, notasugarhere – now that you put that link in for the original pantsuit that coat belongs to I can’t stop thinking how much more contemporary and adult she’d have looked in that pantsuit. That jacket at its designed jacket length, a maternity blouse under it, and immaculately tailored trousers. sighs. Perfect for a cold day and for dispelling that “I”m visiting children so I have to look kinda child like too”

      • notasugarhere says:

And very similar to the, wait for it, cream Goat coat she wore last time around as maternity gear. Guess she just had to spend $1000+ on yet another new Goat coat. So thrifty, eh? http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/06/14/article-0-1A53A7A5000005DC-273_306x597.jpg

    • LadySlippers says:

      •notasugarhere•

Black is such an odd choice to wear while visiting children — especially since Diana went out of her way to wear bright colours to make the children feel more at ease with her. Diana even had a specific dress that the press hated but children responded to it, so she kept wearing it despite the criticism (see links).

And black and white is a colour combo strictly reserved for funerals in Japan. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that association. (I understand that the rest of the world isn’t as strict for mourning attire)

  5. Ag says:

duchess what? the usual coat parade for her.

    Ms. McCray looks AMAZING.

  6. littlestar says:

The First Lady looks great! Kate’s shoes are really dingy looking :O.

    • Reece says:

Ole suede vs newer (or maybe better taken care of) suede.
Everything on TFL looks lovely. I even like the booties.

      ETA: Typo stays. 🙂

  7. HoustonGrl says:

I like the outfit, but it’s a bit severe for a meeting with little kids in Harlem. And the hair? Oh Lord. Kate is all about her hair and legs. I suppose there’s not much else? Anyway, I still find it difficult to see the point of these visits.

  8. Luciana says:

I love the way she styled her hair.

  9. Abbott says:

Granted, the White House press were shouting questions, but the president probably shouldn’t have cut off William mid-sentence and then not return to the conversation.

    • LadySlippers says:

      •Abbott•

That had a very weird vibe to it. Wonder what else was going on….

      • wolfpup says:

I don’t think that the president wanted to discuss baby boy genitalia.

      • wolfpup says:

I don’t think that the president wanted to discuss baby boy genitalia.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •wolfpup•

It could be a zillion other things too. I kinda felt as if Obama was ticked off at the press corp.

      • Abbott says:

LadySlippers, I found myself apologizing quietly at my computer screen to William.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Abbott•

I was cringing as it seemed William was trying very hard to make chit-chat with the Pres, and for whatever reason, Obama wasn’t playing along.

      • DK says:

Wasn’t the meeting with the President a recent addition to the schedule? Maybe the meeting was forced on the President and he was annoyed to have to do it in front of the press?

    • Deedee says:

My BS detector is going off. William knew he was having a boy, or else there would’ve been a push for changes to make a female oldest child the next heir.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Deedee•

I think they knew beforehand too — which is why he didn’t ask! But birth IS a very chaotic experience — especially for the first time. 😊

      • hannah says:

there was a change in rules

      • someonestolemyname says:

Yup..Prince William’s answer sounded like preplanned gone over with Palace handler’s pr soundbites for the press.

      • Pippa Mids says:

The WH meeting is off Protocol. P Will is not Head of State nor on State Visit for HM; not like King Harry visit with the troops and visit to Arlington Cemetery.

The President. did a huge favour to HM PC. Hosting Will and photog op in Oval Office with the controversial fundraising activities.

I can understand the Clintons and their wealthy NYers (not their original state) but for wealthy donor friends to their campaigns – Chelsea must be gearing up to run for office too.

    • Christina says:

I enjoyed it, honestly. I’m glad for once William can see there are people who won’t fall in line over him pulling rank. He deserves it.

      • Vava says:

I enjoyed it too. William isn’t half as intelligent as Obama.

      • The Original Mia says:

Yep. What William wanted to discuss was small talk reserved for informal gatherings. The press corp, from what I’ve heard, were unimpressed with the heir to the heir.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

William’s conversational skills drive me up a wall sometimes. He seems to always go for humour or self deprecating humour. I think he’s been getting away with that because the British press fawns over whatever he says usually and the UK press still treats him like a early 20’s Prince, but William is a grown man of 32 going on 33, his conversational skills are lacking.
Prince Charles could hold his own with any World leader or dignitary by that age.

Diana in her early twenties had a naturall instinct for handling meetings with World leaders.

  10. Mrs. Wellen-Mellon says:

I’m sorry but the long hair in sausage curls, the short schoolgirl coat, and the black high heels is a Lolita look which is not appropriate for a woman of Kate’s age or position.

On one of Prince Andrew’s girls, fine.

    • Vava says:

LOL……………I agree completely. Kate looks juvenile. The coat just isn’t very good and the shoes look beat up. The hairstyle is just…………wrong. What is with all the black.

On the other hand, the First Lady of NYC looks like she’s enjoying herself and actually has a personality, unlike her guest. I much prefer her ensemble.

  11. Country girl says:

I liked that when William was droning on about his life saying the same thing he always says, the press was more interested in Obama. It’s nice to see because, frankly, I am fed up with being told by the media that we are supposed to care so much about this couple when there is much more happening in the world that deserves attention and respect.

  12. lisa2 says:

I like the coat a lot.. but I feel like it should be a bit longer??

    • Tiffany says:

That is because it was designed as a two piece pantsuit. I guess Kate was in a rush and forgot them with her mascara and curling iron.

    • notasugarhere says:

It isn’t the original coat. They added a sideways strip of fabric at the hem to lengthen it from the original, but still didn’t make it long enough.

  13. maddelina says:

Both ladies look lovely. Kate’s legs are amazing!

    • Vava says:

      Her legs aren’t THAT amazing.

    • Olenna says:

Kate seems to think her legs are amazing, too. Three outfits in 2 days, and all were too short. For this event, slacks and a wool walker coat would have been both sensible and chic.

      • Vava says:

She does think her legs look amazing, that’s why she wears the high heels to plump up her calf muscle, plus the shorter skirts. The deal is though, we’ve seen her legs, we don’t need to keep seeing them. Put on some nicely tailored wool slacks, please! And I’m not talking about leggings, jeggings, or skin tight skinny stretch wool. Kate, it’s time to try to be chic.

      • notasugarhere says:

Oleanna, vava, I’m sorry to say that you’re dreaming. “Chic” and “Kate Middleton” are just not a match. BTW, she’s wearing maternity jeggings and spike heels to meet the potential future President of the United States (Hillary Clinton).

      • Vava says:

LOL………..notasugarhere……………I know. I am dreaming. Kate is not, and will not in the foreseeable future be CHIC.

      • Olenna says:

@Nota–Ha! I know I’m dreaming and it is futile! She needs a professional stylist; not a yes-man personal assistant and jack of all trades like she has now. My gosh, all the fabulous coats and wool capes out this season and she shows up in what looks like a jerry-rigged suit jacket that, as someone said above, is missing its trousers!

  14. Marie says:

She goes for ONE hour and wraps presents???? For a visit to little kids a colorful outfit would have been more appropriate.

  15. may23 says:

Ms. McCray wins here – what a great outfit, head-to-toe!

  16. Lisa Danielle says:

Not a fan of the length (or all-black for visiting children), but I really liked her purple coat from last night. And the first lady’s coat. Mostly I’m just for more purple coats.

Also, Harry’s in Lesotho working on a new Sentebale building right now! I think he has Chris Jackson from Getty with him, but it seems he worked out a deal with the press to leave him alone for this visit and he will invite them all for an official visit next fall? He’s really learned how to play nice with the press. Will also seems to be playing nice with the American press, probably because he can’t gag them.

  17. Kiki says:

Do people really like NYC first lady’s ensemble? Or is it better in comparison to Kate’s dull look? I think they both look awful, but especially despise the Barney coat and spinster shoes on McCray.

  18. k says:

wow. chirlane is stunning. what a smile….
she seems to be one of those people who sort of beam light out through their eyes, you know?
oh lordy, not in a sci-fi way either. lol.

  19. MinnFinn says:

Her coat gives me a mod military vibe. Kate likes the military look. I like the coat but it’s way too short. You can see the front of it here.
    http://hrhduchesskate.blogspot.com/

And the dude who arrived with Kate is not William. Where is the pod? Wm is animated and smiling broadly in the Obama video – even leaning in to the conversation. And what a shocker last night at Wm’s vivaciousness in the video of their hotel arrival.

  20. crystalball says:

Oh dear, she looks like a flight attendant who forgot to put her skirt on. Too much like a uniform and far too conservative. And what’s with her manhandling the First Lady? (First Lady looks perfect, love her look).

    • wolfpup says:

I wondered about that touching thing too – especially as Michelle Obama was tagged for touching the Queen in the same way. Don’t they read their own memo’s, especially after telling the press corp how to dress?

      • Belle Epoch says:

Respectfully disagree with the manhandling comment. When I saw the picture I thought how fabulous, Kate is being warm and genuine. She also took off her glove to shake hands, which is a nice thing to do. I imagine this is her “commoner” background showing itself – I doubt born and bred royals would be as friendly. Plus, I cut her some slack for pretty much everything right now – she’s pregnant in a foreign country and is being put under a microscope every second.

      • notasugarhere says:

Belle Epoch, she did NOT take off her gloves to shake hands. You can see her still wearing her gloves while the two women are shaking hands. Have you ever seen Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Beatrice, or Eugenie in action? Plenty friendly and born royal.

      • notasugarhere says:

Too late to edit my other comment. Usually only HM and Anne wear gloves. Does anyone remember this story? I cannot find a link but maybe the Wales tour Oct/Nov after the wedding. Freezing drizzle, tons of crowds, and someone asked Diana why she wasn’t wearing gloves against the cold. The answer was that people wanted to see her rings; she wouldn’t wear gloves because she didn’t want to disappoint them.

      • Belle Epoch says:

I stand corrected. I thought she was holding her other glove. Now I have the sads.

  21. Carrie says:

Nope, that coat is terrible. The fuchsia one on the other hand is gorgeous.

    • Pippa Mids says:

      Notasug

Lady Di also wanted the genuine touching people – not through a gloved hand.

CP Mary do the same, if wearing gloves, she remove the hand she is greeting with

  22. MinnFinn says:

Large apple shaped dangly earrings or broach would take Kate’s outfit over the top. Plus a nice nod to her host city. Snark.

  23. Jaded says:

That hair….good God woman stop wearing it like you’re 16 years old. Outfit is OK but too short – as per usual she has to show off some part of her anatomy, even when it’s freezing cold. *SIGH*.

  24. Feeshalori says:

The coat was way too short and the tailoring to lengthen it was very obvious. Why can’t she just get an ensemble that’s at an appropriate length to start with without doing these modifications? And I didn’t like Chirlane’s coat at all; the hem looked dippy and uneven and the color was just too Barney, as someone may have mentioned here.

    • notasugarhere says:

Mrs. McCray’s coat was probably purchased off-the-rack, just like the rest of us purchase our clothing. And she probably earned the money for her coat herself. Add in the cheerful color to visit kids, and I’m giving her thumbs up on this one, even if I’d never wear that color myself.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Agree. I really don’t like Kate’s coat – the white bars are distracting and the modified hem looks downright shoddy. If she’s going bespoke then why can’t she get her clothes properly tailored? I think she really needs a stylist – to find the most flattering shapes and colours, to make sure the clothes are properly fitted and to help with accessorizing.

Love the purple colour on the other lady’s coat but that’s the only nice thing about it. The shape and cut is just unflattering and it looks a bit cheap.

    • Feeshalori says:

NOTA, most likely the First Lady bought her coat off the rack with money she earned herself and I don’t think I inferred otherwise in my post. But I still don’t care for the neon color or lopsided hem although I give her props for wearing a bright color to visit the children.

  25. Bethany says:

I don’t understand why Kate never removes her coat when she’s inside on one of her visits. At the Harlem art center, everyone else had removed their coats and Kate was sitting at a table, doing an art project with some of the students with her coat on. Later, she was even wrapping some gifts, still with her coat on. But last night, she went out to her event in a lace dress, without a coat, when the temperature was in the 30’s. I don’t get it.

    • Vava says:

      I don’t get it, either.

    • notasugarhere says:

It is also looks like she didn’t wrap gifts WITH the kids. From photos on other sites it looks like she sat there and wrapped a box by herself. Why not interact and wrap a gift together? “What color paper should we use? Could you please pick out the ribbon you think goes best with this paper? Let’s make sure we measure right so we have enough paper. If we work together we can tie this bow more tightly.” etc.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

A person who saw her hop out of car in lace dress, no coat, said , she felt Kate wanted to make sure Press corps got good evening out photos glamour.

I think Kate should have done a POP of color for the Harlem outing, for the kids anyway, it would have been nice.
The British press tried to spin the Princess Elsa Frozen story for Kate in a positive way, but the US press told the truth, the US NY press said the children were disappointed that Kate was not Princess Elsa . Not that she has to be a disney princess, but I’m just saying a more colorful outfit would have played better for the Harlem outing.

I actually liked her coat but not for that outing w the kids.

  26. Laura says:

Watching the video of the exchange between William and Obama was so cringe-worthy. Obama clearly didn’t care about whatever William saying. Maybe the sparkle of William has dulled?! Although I’m sure William is a nice enough person, he is not better than or above Obama or anyone else because of his title or family. He needs to work harder to earn the adulation that seems to be expected because of his title. Plus, I’m sure Obama has heavier things to ponder than whether or not William asked about the gender of his baby when he was born.

As for Kate…well, she looks lovely. As usual. And her work ethic continues to be a joke. A one hour visit to a charity to wrap gifts, is kind of pointless to me. Who the heck did that actually help? Every article has focused on her appearance versus the charity she was supposedly helping. It seemed more like a chance to fawn all over a celebrity instead of doing truly meaningful work to better the lives of others. And the light work load had nothing to do with her being pregnant – she had the same work load when she wasn’t pregnant.

William and Kate disappoint me. They have an amazing opportunity to do some real life changing work to better this world but instead they do the bare minimum and their appearances are reduced to superficial details such as her clothing and his painful efforts at small talk.

    • Juliette says:

William’s small talk really was cringe inducing. The President looked completely bored, with a fake smile plastered on his face so photos would look good. I like how he repeated what William said, just to act like he had been paying attention. Awkward.

      • Vava says:

Good for Obama, I’d say! Maybe these two lazy royals won’t come back here for awhile.

I agree, it was cringe-worthy to see William and the President attempting small talk; William’s not even in the same league as a world leader and why would he think it’s fascinating news to POTUS about the gender of George. I’m so glad the reporters turned the questioning to Obama about his health, basically leaving Willie out in the cold. Because basically I think he got the cold shoulder. Brrrrrr!

      • Someonestolemyname says:

Prince Charles in his early 30’s could hold his own in conversation with world leaders and dignitaries.
William has been coddled way too much and the British press always writes up whatever he does or says as wonderful sadly.

William is always trying to make humour and it just comes off las lacking substance in certain situations.

Love the purple coat. Anyone have any ideas on where she got it?

  28. Ally.M says:

I love Kate’s coat, although I think it would look better with the suede knee high boots she often wears. As for the Mrs McCray, she looks lovely and smiley but her outfit doesn’t look good to me. The purple coat is full of the of creases and hangs poorly, the hem is all over the place.

I seem to be seeing something different to most of the other posters on here, perhaps it’s my age or that I’m not from the USA.

  29. Dany says:

i still don´t get why they had to go to NY for such stuff. It just seems so put-on. William could have done this alone in 1 day or just stayed in the UK. And why is Kate there? She could have worked at home… ok my fault she wouldn´t work. But a girl can dream.

It looks so wrong when a “little” Prince sits next to a real President as if they are equal-ranking. A little bit baby and “busy Prince-life” talk with a politician who has better things to do is just silly. William doesn´t even live in the same universe. And you see how they struggle to make “serious” smalltalk. That is just a PR photoshooting without meaning.

    • No lipservice please says:

The meaning of this photoshoot is that they try to show that William were an important person. Well, he is not.

  30. Peri says:

Watching that video of William and Obama was so hard. I understand every diplomat/ambassador does this, and it’s a tedious thing for anybody, but it’s like Obama really didn’t want to be there, and William is trying so hard to gain any sort of goodwill or respect in the world. Or maybe William is just playing the PR game, and it’s as if Obama understands the game but doesn’t want to engage in it. It seemed as if he had other important issues to tackle, and this was dumped on his desk with little to no time to prepare. This reminds me of when William just dumped it on the Queen that he was getting married and had a press conference scheduled two hours later. I don’t know. You Royal Loonies could explain it better than me and to me! Ha

    • perplexed says:

I don’t know why the exchange was so awkward, but right now does seem like it would be pretty stressful for any American President. I figure that alone could explain why Obama seemed strained. William is extremely privileged while there are those in the streets protesting on behalf of those much less so — I can see why Obama wasn’t into the chitchat at time like this.

    • No lipservice please says:

William is TRYING to play the PR politics charity game but he doesn’t really want to do this nor does he really know how to do this.
Talking about the birth of your first child with the President of the mightiest country in the world is:
      – 1. appropriate if you are a personal private friend of the President.
      – 2. not appropriate if your are supposed to be an Ambassador for all things good charitable and environmental.
      – 3. an embarrassing sign of incompetence and lack of experience if you –> see 2.

Shouldn’t William have talked about environmental or social issues at least? Education would be a somewhat uncontroversial topic à la “education is important” – who could disagree?
Obama seemed to be somewhat irritated but very polite as in “why does he tell me that during an official meeting? I’ll just smile and soon this will be over.” And then Obama politely complimented the reporters out, didn’t he? The USA does have a very smart President, don’t they?

Some people try hard to paint William as being far more important than he actually is.

+1000 The Duke of Lamebridge looks like the spoiled brat that he is. He seems annoyed (OFFENDED) that the POTUS didn’t laugh at his stupid joke about forgetting to check between George’s legs. Maybe the next time the Duke visits America, he’ll stay out of D.C.

    I love Kate’s hair
    when she pulls it back
    it’s beautiful

  33. Stephanie says:

So this may be the NYCer in me but what the hell was KM thinking with those pumps? They are used and abused and need to be gone. I can’t believe she went out for photo ops with such scuffed up shoes!

  34. Amy says:

I actually kind of like that Kate insists on wearing shorter dresses mainly because people keep getting so bent out of shape about it. I know she’s a royal and there is “protocol” to follow and she is on an international stage but I find it hilarious people care so much. Also we wouldn’t talk about her as much either. Do the Brits really care how she dresses that much? I feel like it’s mostly the Americans pointing out all her fashion faux-pas.

I love that Chirlane is not wearing a black coat, that purple color looks great on her. I don’t like that cut on her though. It’s kind of frumpy

    • Someonestolemyname says:

Yes ,Brits care how she dresses all the British press talks about are her clothes or hair usually and from her dress fly ups showing her rear, to her awful jeggings and wedgies it gets the British commentors in papers really going.

  35. Flower says:

Not entirely sure it looks a bit like a black cartoon mail box from the back.

CAN YOU DO BETTER THAN WILLIAM?

From my point of view William did horribly fail when he got the opportunity to talk to Obama.

So what topics would you talk about if you had the chance to meet Obama for 5 min?
(No complex political discussions, please, just some topics à la “development of sience” or “equality in education” or “new direction in … politics”):
