Well, this has turned into a busy gossip day for Hollywood and royalty alike! There’s word going around Monaco that Princess Charlene and Prince Albert have checked into the hospital already. Charlene was due with twins on Christmas Day, but Albert previously said that twins usually come early, which is true. Also, there’s gossip around Monaco that this is a prescheduled C-section. Which also wouldn’t surprise me. She’s pregnant with twins, and she’s 36 years old. I think many doctors would probably want to do a C-section, you know?
I’m following the drama in Monaco on Twitter, and as of press time, there’s a lot of rumor and speculation. Many in Monaco think that Charlene has already given birth to a boy and a girl. Which… I hope that’s the case! And I hope they name the babies something decent. I’ll update this post when the news gets confirmed!
Update: The Daily Mail says that Charlene definitely gave birth to a boy and girl and no one knows if Albert was even there.
Update: We have the names! The boy is Prince Jacques Honoré Rainier and the girl is Princess Gabriella Thérèse Marie. Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella. Nice.

Was there not a rumor that the girl was born first and not the boy. Either way, congrats and hope all is healthy.
Wasn’t it decided that it didn’t matter? Primogeniture is still in place in Monaco. If a boy and girl are born, boy will be the heir regardless of birth order. Albert stated that if she had two boys he would choose which would be heir when they were older (something like 10 years), instead of going with first-born. I don’t remember what happens if they are both girls.

Yup. The boy is the heir apparent to Albert with his sister being the spare or heiress presumptive to her brother.
(Heir/Heiress apparent a are in direct line and cannot be bumped; whereas heir/heiress presumptives can be bumped by another — usually a child of the next up in line).
It doesn’t matter if the girl was born first ,they just need a male heir. Albert’s sister Caroline is older than him ,but Albert is still the heir.
Hopefully, having the boy will avert the messy succession issue but given the Grimaldi family’s history, that could be in question.
Congratulations to the princely couple on their bundles of joy. I hope this brings them great happiness and less stress. I love the name Gabriella for a little princess!

I must have had some kind of intuition this morning, because as I was taking the kids to school this morning, I thought about her out of the blue and wondered when in December she was supposed to have the babies. I hope she has a healthy, happy delivery and healthy, happy babies!
Someone just tweeted that gossipers in Monaco said a boy was just delivered.
I know it’s awful to think this but part of me is happy that at least one of the twins is a boy because – assuming the rumors are true – maybe they’ll lay off her a bit, now!

It shows that she just needs to be relaxed and comfy to photograph well. I’m very much like that.
I remember seeing a photo of them at the London Olympics. It was a quiet moment and they were seated with their arms linked and she was resting her head against his arm. It looked very comfortable, relaxed and loving. I don’t know what their marriage is like but, like William and Kate, it seems there is a lot of presumption based on selected photographs.

I’m beginning to think she just doesn’t photograph happy. The photos are beautiful but even in the happy pictures, the smile doesn’t seem to reach her eyes. I’m not trying to read anything into them. She just seems to have a stiff face I guess? Or she really is unhappy. I don’t know but I don’t read joy in those pictures.

They are at a high risk for Noonan Syndrome and a much higher risk of Down Syndrome because of his age, but hopefully they will be healthy.
What is Noonan syndrome.? Hope the twins are healthy. great to have twins.
I’m a cynic, am assuming that prior to announcing they checked for Down’s syndrome, etc in various ways and would have ended the pregnancy if they babies weren’t healthy (although with twins it’s tricky, what if one /2 was healthy ?) I’m sure they are “healthy” babies
I’m pretty sure they’d have given her precautionary tests as well during the pregnancy.
We knew she would wait until the Cambridges were not hogging the headlines.
I wonder whether there’s any chance of retroactive change in the line of succession if it’s one girl and one boy (at the moment, the boy would be first regardless of birth order). It worked out for Sweden’s royal family even though the King wasn’t happy about it and said his son should have remained heir.
I’m so happy for her, she must be overjoyed and relieved. If it’s a boy and a girl, as they say, then it’s just perfect,le choix du roi 🙂

I predicted it would be a boy and a girl because – assuming this was an IVF pregnancy and they chose the genders – they would obviously want at least one to be male. But it would be better for the other baby to be a girl, as there would be no resentment over their twin being the one to inherit the throne, since a girl would ”obviously” have to take second place to her brother.
I thought the same thing – that they did IVF with gender selection. Pretty good luck if they transferred both a boy and girl embryo and they BOTH took. I thought possibly they might have gone with two boy embryos to increase the odds of at least a single successful boy pregnancy. But it’s all speculation on my part – I’ve never seen any confirmation it was IVF….

I’m a little surprised – no Grace in the daughter’s name? I thought Albert would want to throw in a little reference to his (much loved) mother (or at least one of his sisters!). I do like that his son’s name honors his dad.
Albert´s oldest child, his “illigitim” daughter is named Jazmin Grace. So maybe he didn´t want to “steal” this name from her.

Is it crazy that I am relieved for her? Two healthy kids at once, and heir and a spare, hopefully now she can find some lightness and happiness in her life. I think (even outside of her pregnancy) she generally looks so tired, so unlike the beauty she was when they got married. Like she lost her sparkle a bit? I hope she can get that back.
