I try not to shake my head too hard at Meghan Trainor. She’s all over the place with multiple Jingle Balls and a couple of singles, which are so annoying. But she’s only 21 years old, you know? That’s not an excuse for her weird thoughts on feminism or anything. She doesn’t always make sense, and she claims to be all about body acceptance by virtue of, “I ain’t no size 2.” I suspect Megan is putting on a ditzy persona. At least, I hope so.
Meghan recently talked about planning her career on a vision board. Everything she put on the board — a record deal, a #1 single, and a Grammy nod — came true. She said the record deal happened immediately after she created the board. Meghan also claimed to be a proficient rapper, but she says, “As a songwriter, my main goal is to make it stupid catchy.” So maybe she’s messing with us? She claimed to have “Caribbean flair” in her rapping skills. Now she’s telling an Irish news outlet that she’s dumping doowop music for … reggae?

The “All About That Bass’ hitmaker will release her debut LP Title in the UK in January, but has already started mapping out what she wants to achieve on subsequent releases, on which she hopes to explore other genres.
She said: ”I want it to be crazy. I want it to be awesome. I want it to be different.”
The 20-year-old singer – who will also release her second single “Lips Are Movin” in the UK next month – explained she doesn’t want to be pigeon-holed into the shoo-wop sound from her singles, and has other styles which she will be expressing.
She continued: ”Because as a songwriter, I’m not just shoo-woppy. It’s just clicked.” Expanding on the type of music which she might explore next, she quipped: ”I wanna be like, yo – I wanna get my reggae out there!”
However, the blonde beauty admitted she is still a huge fan of the sound of her current music, and thinks it has been received so positively because it is ”timeless’.”
She said: ”My favourite part of the doo-wop style is that it’s timeless. You can sing ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’ and everyone’s, like, ‘This is my jam!”’

She’s totally trolling us, right? That must be the case if she truly said, “Yo – I wanna get my reggae out there!” Perhaps Meghan’s making fun of Iggy Azalea’s cultural appropriation. God knows everyone else (except T.I.) is “patronizing” Iggy. I hope Meghan isn’t serious. She doesn’t even have a full album out yet. No reason to switch genres.
One more thing: Meghan humblebragged at the Billboard Women in Music event. She says Beyonce complimented her on “All About That Bass.” The weird thing is that Meghan initially wrote the song for Bey, who rejected it. Weird?

Bey was right to reject that song. It’s basically a novelty single – a good way to get an unknown into the charts but would have been awful for an established artist.
That song is pretty much about body shaming women who dont look like Meghan and of course shaming the men who like these girls. Its a sad pathetic anthem for women who have to crush others to feel good about themselves, so good on Beyonce for passing up on this mess.
This. It’s ok to bash people for their bodies as long as yours not a size zero! Ef off. That whole song never should have seen the radio waves . And if you look up the lyrics, no one should be surprised about her wonky thoughts on feminism. She’s another one that makes feminism all about her.
Poor poor skinny people.
Really, I think the song is about how all women, even skinny women, are pressured into feeling fat and using photoshop, when we should appreciate our bodies as they are. But I know there’s a group on here that has to let everyone know how skinny they are whenever the subject comes up. I don’t think think anyone, skinny or fat, should be body shamed, but I don’t think that’s what the song says at all. But go ahead and be insulted if you want. We know you love to point out the unfairness of it all.
Yeah, it would be nice if she didn’t feel the need to put down ‘skinny bitches’ while celebrating her body type. This song isn’t really an anthem for body acceptance.
She says, in the song, that she was kidding about the “skinny bitches” and she knows they feel the pressure and think they’re fat,too. Not that I’m trying to turn this dumb little song into an anthem for anything, but really, it is what it is, and it’s not about berating poor, unfortunate skinny people. It’s about it being ok to be other than skinny, but that’s apparently not ok to say.

This girl pretty much brings out a knee jerk side eye from though so i’m pretty bias.
first picture looks so pretty. it’s almost refreshing to see a blonde celebrity with fair complexion. because like, almost every celebs with blonde hair have tan skins.
Funny, she doesn’t look like a natural blonde to me. Such a unnatural color with too much dark underneath to be real. Not that I think there’s anything wrong with coloring your hair, but I think the color should be flattering to your skin tone, and hers is very harsh.
That’s my colouring too (pale and dyed ash blonde) and I really don’t care for the colours and makeup Meghan chooses to wear. Emma stone has this colouring too (when she’s not a redhead) and I like her style a lot more. The sequin pics are ok actually but gosh I hate her bright lipsticks- looks very tacky to me

Switching to reggae will pretty much have your desired effect.
She needs some media training. I actually think she’s somewhat talented – I’m not a fan of Bass, but if she is actually composing those songs on the radio, she does know how to write a hook, and that will take her far. But her persona is Ariana Grande-level-annoying, and I don’t think it needs to be. She puts her foot in her mouth, but she doesn’t strike me as a terribly entitled-before-her-time diva. Just an obnoxious person, in the way that loud 21-year-olds tend to be obnoxious.
At least AG understands what a feminist is.

I love AATB. It’s fun. It’s catchy. Does a song have to be serious to be appreciated? There’s plenty of those that bore me to tears.
Is it cultural appropriation if a white person wants to make reggae music, though? One of my friends is a bass player, and it is his favorite type of music. Why shouldn’t people love and play the music they like?
I see people getting irritated with Iggy because she not only plays the music, she takes on a fake accent. However, to play reggae doesn’t mean that we should assume a fake accent comes with that. Reggae is all about the syncopation!
