Well well well. As we discussed yesterday, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and the whole family traveled to Rome for some sightseeing, shopping and Pope-meeting. That’s right, people. Saint Jolie met Pope Francis. Who blessed whom? As I theorized yesterday, this was no simple meet-and-greet: Angelina actually got to screen Unbroken for a papal audience!
A holy blessing! Angelina Jolie has visited the Vatican where she hosted a special screening of her movie Unbroken and met Pope Francis on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 8.
The mom-of-six was delighted to be invited to the Vatican by the head of the Catholic church, and to be asked to screen her movie for the Political Academy of Sciences.
“Being invited with my film to the Vatican is an honor and a great tribute to the story that I have told in Unbroken,” Brad Pitt’s wife said in a statement released by Universal Pictures to Us Weekly. “The story of the hero Louis a great example of strength and forgiveness.”
“Pope Francis, aware of the incredible life story of Louis Zamperini, graciously welcomed the opportunity to view the film and is expected to attend the screening at the Casina Pio IV, headquarters of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences,” Universal Pictures Italia added, of the important event.
Jolie hosted the high profile screening alongside Zamperini’s son Luke.
Jolie has brought her two eldest daughters Zahara and Shiloh along with her for the trip to Rome. Yesterday they were spotted enjoying time together at a local toy shop in Piazza Navona.
As exclusively reported by Us, Brad Pitt was also scheduled to attend the Vatican but due to a “last minute change” didn’t come, a source said.
Well, that’s some interesting drama? No Brad Pitt? Maybe Pope Francis wanted to bless Angelina Jolie, Zahara and Shiloh without Brad. And I love that Pope Francis was already aware of Louis Zamperini and that OF COURSE the Pope invited Angelina to come to Vatican City to screen the film. Take that, Golden Globes. Unbroken is papal-approved.
As you can see, Angelina and the kids followed the strict dress code for Vatican visitors. No exposed arms or legs! Shiloh wore a little suit (she looks so much like Brad!) and Zahara wore a little black ensemble. Angelina wore a black suit.

Ah, this makes me happy.
🙂
Angelina looks gorgeous.
Shiloh and Zahara look adorable. So sweet.
they are SO cute! Shiloh with her hands in her pockets…too cool for school…what a pair of cutie pies.
Shiloh is the spitting image of Angelina, regardless of wardrobe. Both of those kids are gorgeous.
Seriously. I saw a photo of AJ at Shiloh’s age where she was busting forth with a big smile and I actually thought it WAS Shiloh in the photo.
The joyous pope with birds behind them is paging Sally Field.
Brad Pitt’s wife?
That is what happens when you put a ring on it. Regardless of your profession, you will be reduced to “So and So’s wife.” Never the other way around.
Growing up, I was always X’s daughter, when I married I was simply Y’s wife, then I became Z’s mom. It’s the patriarchal society we live in. Even family members, when referring to my sisters and their husbands, say “B & A” instead of “A & B”, even though “B” is the in-law.
Congratulations to Angelina, she is doing quite well regardless of what some others wish. She has a lot to be proud of.
This is also my experience. I’ve been married almost three years and to some degree I feel like I, as a person, have completely been swallowed up by my husbands identity. I stopped going to church because I was only identified by my husband’s job. “Do you remember Polite Tea Sipper? Her husband (does this).” “Oh yes I remember her now!”
I can’t say this is the case where I live in eastern NC. It depends on who is addressing my husband and me. If its one of my friends or family members, it’s Dottie and Butch and vice versa if its one of his friends or family members.
This is one of the many reasons to be aware and proactive “feminist.” Recognize women (no matter your age) that there is still work to be done even if “you enjoy cooking dinner” for your man. Equal rights for each gender, all people is feminism boiled down to simplicity. Young women please, please educate yourselves!
LOL US magazine is always there to keep us womenfolk in check.
How sad is it that the Vatican didn’t even go there? I mean, seriously?? Why can’t you use the person’s name. Her being married to Brad has nothing to do with her accomplishment of directing a movie, and screening it for the freaking Pope!.
That bugged me too…i mean, really guys?
That was the first detail I zoned in on too! “Brad Pitt’s wife” WTF!? I wouldn’t be as obsessed if that was from a Vatican source, as they’re usually stuck in the 16th century, but US Weekly??! Magazines publish the date on each cover, they must know it’s 2015 and women can stand on their own accomplishments.
Articles sometimes refer to Brad as Mr. Angelina Jolie. Should he be insulted too?
What a joke!
Wow…her life has been pretty amazing! Her transformation from her wild, younger years to now has been a facinating and admirable story to watch in itself….Someone needs to make a movie about Angie’s life! I can’t help it….I think she is FANTASTIC!!!
Agreed. I would watch that movie, as long as she starred in it!!! hehe
Her change reminds me of the recent Sienna Miller article of how even though she’s now a married mother, she’s the same crazy person but ppl view her differently. I wonder how much of the old Angie is there or if she really is just a brand new person.
Actually I think Angelina is a lot like Louis Z than we realise.
Both were Rebels in their youth, both had this insane thirst for life and adventure.
While Louis became a changed man after WW2 – Angelina grew up after seeing the horrors of war in Cambodia around 2000.
Louis changed the strenght, resilience, adventures feelings into living the life to the fullest.
Angelina changed it to use towards humanitarian causes, her husband and children, her career etc.
That’s how you grow up – no one never changes completely but mature people channel that fire into the right direction.
Maybe Ruby Rose could play Jolie when she was younger.
@Maya I absolutely agree. I think that’s why their relationship and Angelina’s absolute passion to tell this story is such a strong one. I think that, surface differences aside, they are very much alike at a basic level and shared a common bond of transformation.
Agree that Angie has grown and evolved but I think it’s a stretch to compare her seeing Cambodia to being shot down over the ocean and imprisoned in a POW camp.
I admire Jolie’s humanitarian work and love her admiration of Louis Z, but I think the comparison is a bit of a stretch, even for her hardcore fans.
@ esmom-LOL 😉
A bad… Lifetime Network Movie probably sitting on someone’s desk already. 😉
but….I too would love it, if someone of stature did a glorious, feature film on her eventually.
She’s amazing. Love Angelina. Such a interesting woman.
I’m honestly surprised Lifetime hasn’t jumped on that yet. Even if it was crap, I’d still watch it, lol. But it would be amazingly AWESOME for a real movie like that–to focus on her transformation as a wild child to a serious humanitarian/mother.
And I think that she just tucks that part of herself away–she no longer needed to be open with everything. Like when she adopted Maddox and started with her humanitarian work–she didn’t just become a monk. She was very open about the fact that she was having casual sex with multiple partners (and not in a relationship either)–and was photographed with JLM several times in 2003/2004. It’s the equivalent, now, of a young person realizing they don’t have to put everything out on Facebook…lol.
And I’m still waiting on a date with your son, Mrs. B 😉
VC…You would love him..,He is a movie nut…his dream is to become a movie director…not to mention, he is kind and of course, I think, handsome!
I’m surprised Lifetime hasn’t done a movie on her yet too.
They do everyone. I guess maybe they will, eventually.
I love their cheesy Biopic movies, even if they are awful, I still watch and find something to love about them. Like a soap opera.
I think you’re an idiot!!!! Lol!!!
Oooh, Angelina’s showing a little chest….burn her at the stake with Holy Water!!!!
And I was wondering why she was in Rome. Seriously that must’ve been SO cool. I know next to nothing about Catholicism (except for second hand side eye because one of my grandmothers was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school with nuns who had rulers…), but it would be something to see the Pope, to see the Vatican, let alone be invited to something like that…
As for the movie, I think a lot of Christians are loving it because they didn’t toy with the message. I get that a lot of book readers are upset that they didn’t show him w/PTSD, and his conversion to Christianity (and I might’ve been too if I had read the book), but I think she did really well with the overall themes. I’ve said it a million times already–my dad was PISSED about Noah. He does not buy movies EVER, and he went out and bought Noah. Because it was supposedly based on the Bible. I think the fact that she was respectful to the Christian faith, and faith in general was a huge selling point with a lot of Christians.
And one thing–I don’t get why it’s being called torture p0rn. I’m not the most squeamish of people, but I also don’t seek out movies with a ton of violence just for the sake of violence (except for Tarantino’s films), as it doesn’t interest me. But this movie is based on a real story, with real events. And said events are 10x worse in real life, than in the movie. So why is it considered torture p0rn? I’ve read a lot of critics saying that; that it’s torture p0rn, that it’s one violent scene after another (in the camp scenes), and I’m like ORLY….dude is in a Japanese POW camp, did they expect that it was gonna be sunshine and daisies all day?
I don’t get it.
Seriously. Did anyone say that about movies like Saw? (I’m legitimately asking). Because that was torture pr0n.
That and Hostel were called torture pr0n by some. I think those movies are so gross!
I’ve had arguments with my kids (20, 17, 12) over the years about movies like Saw. They had friends who would watch them but I said absolutely not. They ARE just torture porn. I have no problems with them watching a movie like Unbroken, Shindler’s List or Saving Private Ryan where there is violence but it’s to demonstrate a larger point. Not just to see how many ways you can inflict pain and suffering and death. Of course, depending on the movie and their age at the time, the watching may have been accompanied by a discussion before and after. To this day, my able-to-get-into-R-rated movie children don’t care to watch Saw-type movies though they do enjoy a horror flick–just within bounds.
I’m pretty sure Saw spawned the common use of the term torture pr0n. There is a whole section in the Wikipedia article for the Saw series addressing this. But I agree that Unbroken does not belong in that genre.
Virg, I finally saw Unbroken on Monday. I’ll admit that I mainly went because my Angelina Jolie was the director, but overall, I thought it was a not bad movie! A little more “family friendly” than I was actually expecting. It’s funny how people are calling it torture pr0n, my husband and I both said after the movie that the torture scenes were a lot more tame than what we were originally expecting. I didn’t have to cover my eyes during any scene, although yes, some of the scenes were still upsetting.
As for the religious aspect of the movie, I think they did a good job with it. I think they touched on it just enough without making it uncomfortable for those who aren’t religious/spiritual (like me lol), but did it in a way that the audience SHOULD understand what got him through so many traumatic events. So that way the movie appeals to many different types of audiences, rather than just one specific audience.
Did Zamperini convert to Christianity? I thought he was brought up a Catholic?
He was brought up Catholic, but didn’t really follow it or any type of religion until after the war when he went to a Billy Graham meeting…..
@DB, yes, Louis was Catholic and Italian which, I am certain is why the Pope wanted a screening of Unbroken.
.
Catholics ARE Christians. From Webster Dictionary….
Catholicism:
Full Definition
1 : roman catholicism
2 : the faith, practice, or system of Catholic Christianity
That’s a lot to be certain of. The Pope doesn’t screen every film about a roman catholic that is the main character of a movie.
If they see a movie so publicly it’s because there’s a message of faith in it.
IMO I think it’s the message and not that LZ was an italian that was also catholic. It’s too great a stretch unless the Pope or an official from the vatican stated that is a reason why.
Also if you search a wiki vatican approved films it goes through a list of 45 films the vatican approves of and many have been screened at the vatican at some point.
Yes Catholics are Christians but they definitely don’t align themselves with evangelical Christianity, I’m guessing that’s what db meant. And I’d agree that LZ’s Catholic upbringing is what the Vatican was focused on more than his conversion.
Shiloh and Zahara are looking something funny on the floor and off camera?
the Papal pooch? the Chapel cat? you know like QEII and her corgies. maybe there’s a coterie of sphinx cats running the show around the papal apartments.
Probably their equal preteen embarrassment. Aw, jeez mom.
Wow Shiloh is now taller than Zahara, Z is atleast 11/2 older than her right.
There were stories when Zahara was very young that she may bear the effects of her very early life spent in deprived conditions. She may end up shorter or what not because of it. Nutrition and medical care pre-natally and in those first few months or years can be signficant even in later development.
I think genetics plays a big part as well. Shiloh looks to have the tall, lanky Voight build like her mom, uncle and grandfather. We don’t have the benefit of knowing Zahara’s biological background.
Congrats Angelina! So happy for her and the girls.
*AHEM!!*
It’s JOHN.
That is what she wants to be called, so she should be called that in your articles.
Unless there is an interview, where Angelina refers to Shiloh as “John”, then no, it isn’t “John”–especially since the tabloids started up with the “Shiloh wants to be called John” based on two facts: 1) Shiloh wore a suit to the Unbroken premiere. Because she’s a little badass. 2) Because back in 2008, when Shiloh was like 2/3, Brad said on Oprah that she was obsessed with Peter Pan, wanted to be just like her older brothers (hence the ‘boy’ clothing/haircut), and wanted to be a boy like her brothers.
I think they just dragged up the fact that Shiloh wanted to be called John as a toddler because she didn’t wear a sparkly dress at the premiere.
Exactly. Just because some tabloids make up a story you call a child by the name her parents gave her, until either the parents or the child upon reaching maturity say otherwise.
When I was three I would tell everyone that I was a boy. I grew up wishing I were a boy, hating dresses, climbing trees. Even when I became a teenager and it was obvious I was as straight as they come, I still hated dresses, and still wished I had been born a guy (you know, no periods or pregnancy, no sexism, more career options… ) Throwing labels at a child this young is just wrong.
There are some trans* activists out there (like Parker Molloy) who are saying that it is best to err on the side of caution and use gender neutral pronouns to talk about Shiloh and that we should use the name John. Another person said that Shiloh is obviously genderqueer because she doesn’t follow gender norms, and that John and male pronouns should be used. When some detractors countered with the fact that Brad said that in an interview years ago and that Angie and Brad call her Shiloh and use feminine pronouns, a lot of these activists said it doesn’t matter and the parent doesn’t always accept these things right away. I am very supportive of trans* people, and have watched my own cousin struggle to gain acceptance. However, I am very uncomfortable with this. Shiloh is a child, she isn’t some sort of icon for the community and she probably has no idea these conversations are even happening. I am also a little offended that dressing in a non gender-conforming sort of way automatically means that someone is transgender. To me, that is a pretty narrow-minded stereotypical way of thinking. Let’s stop using this child as a talking point when there are other trans* children out there to use as an example.
@Peppa
Why would they let her wear boys clothes , let her get her hair cut short but refuse to call her John. That makes no sense.
BTW I have always worn boys or men’s clothes and I am not genderqueer.I wish people would stop projecting their issues on a child they have never met.All we know about Shiloh are things Angie has mentioned in interviews like she takes art lessons, she loves skateboarding, etc
Wow. There’s really nothing lower than speculating about a CHILD, whether it’s her style of dress, sexuality, whatever.
Really really gross.
Also, count me in as a kid who ONLY ever wore my brother’s hand-me-downs and refused to wear dresses.
Seriously – attacking a child? Neither Brad nor Angelina said anything about that she wants to be called John now. That was 5 years ago.
Seriously stop dragging children into your dislike for the parent. There is nothing lower than that.
Please, Angelina calls her Shiloh in interviews, so that whole mess that was spread recently is BS.
Let’s wait for the kid’s confirmation.
Angelina,Brad and Jon Voight call her Shiloh.Angie just called her Shiloh last week in Today Show interview. She also said “she was wearing Louis’ shoe necklace” referring to Shiloh.
They should take their matching white capes and go fight crime together! Frankie and Ange: Justice Stompers!
Totally unrelated: Oscar nom voting ends today, non?
Pope Francis can be the trusty, wise cracking butler whilst Angelina fights evil Sony executives and rids the planet of chicken pox.
Abbott: I just chucked my Brangeloonie badge at your head. 😉
But seriously, I would lurve it if the movie was nominated in some way. I’m not even saying this as a Brangeloonie fan (as I am VERY picky with movies/tv shows, and lose interest very quickly–my mom says I watch tv like a man, lol, as I am famous for skipping through ‘boring’ parts), I LOVED “Unbroken”. I don’t know WTF those critics were on when they were reviewing the movie, because I thought it was great. I can see how people would be disappointed that the PTSD/Christian conversion parts weren’t shown, but I don’t understand how they could say the movie had no heart.
My impression was that Louis survived the war, basically because of his brother. His brother believed in him, planted that seed in when he was young and thought he was nothing, and that carried on to his running, and eventually to his surviving the war. The movie was very unsentimental–unlike the trailer (whoever did the trailer should be shot, because it completely overhyped all of the ‘triumphant’ moments from the film)…
If Unbroken gets any Oscar noms at all (I’m doubtful at this point…), I imagine it will be in the tech categories. Regardless of whether it wins any awards at all, at least the movie didn’t flop.
If anything I think that the film with get techical noms, epecially for cinematography. The Academy loves Roger Deakins and he could finally get a win this year.
Frankie and Angie, lol. Perfect.
I second that.
It’s a good upmarket Oscar year narrative: marriage, resilience-and-faith movie, vaguely theistic declarations, the new, hip Pope himself…
Yep take that critics, gossip bloggers and haters.
The Pope himself invited Angelina to a special screening of Unbroken.
I am so happy for Angelina because the movie has gotten a cinemascore of A-, hundreds of people are tweeting their admiration and inspiration after watching the movie and she will become the first actress turned director to have a $100m movie as an actress and $100m as a director.
Can’t keep a good, honest, wonderful woman down.
Holding my Brangelina badge high😄
PS: again with the Saint Angelina stuff. Please stop with it because not only are you mocking Angelina’s humanitarian work – you are actually insulting Christians. Sainthood is a sacred in Christianity and that should be respected.
Agree completely. Go Angelina!
She looks great, and so do the girls. Way to go Angie! And yeah, take that Golden Globes:-) I know she sometimes gets criticized fashion wise but I think she is always dressed so appropriately for the occasion (like that fab suit for meeting the queen). And in every interview she comes across as intelligent, knowledgeable about the topic, grateful for the fame and fortune… (Full disclosure in case it is not clear, I am a huge fan of hers.)
This will be a huge boost for the movie with international audiences, so good for her.
+100
Also–just realized that Louis’ family was from Italy (same as Mrs. C)…..that might be another reason that she wanted it to screen at the Vatican. I’d think that’d be a point of personal pride….one of your own (not technically, but still)…
Damn, Dame Jolie! Not bad at all for a minimally talented spoilt brat. I wish I was this minimally talented so I can keep winning at life and ruining it for her critics.
Hahaha. Right?! Me too!
She’s having quite a run. In less than six months she marries the love of her life, directs a smash hit movie, gets Dame’d by the Queen and meets the Pope in person. Everything’s coming up Angie.
I know right! lol Great comment 🙂
Kaiser, why are you calling her ‘Saint Jolie’ all of a sudden? You haven’t gone to the dark side, have you? lol
I’m not sure why people get so offended, she’s clearly using it tongue in cheek.
Good for her. I was hoping it would be a humanitarian visit though. I am happy for her though. Having her film screened at the Vatican is a great honor for her, and I’m proud of her.
What a 10th birthday to remember for Zahara. Seriously, Zahara what did you do for your birthday?
Zahara : I was at the Vatican meeting the pope and oh by the way I was also at Buckingham palace to meet the Queen last year.
Those are lucky kids. I’m jealous. 🙂
My gawd, she’s ten already?! I feel ancient.
Of all of the Jolie-Pitt brood, the one I adore is Miss Zahara. I have a feeling that she will be the shining star when they all reached adulthood. There is just something so spunky about her.
I really love this Pope. I was just talking to an a client last night who calls herself an Athiest and she was saying he is one of the few religious figures she admires.
I’m sure she was honored to have that experience. But once you are made a Dame by the Queen of England then have private audience with the Pope how do you top that really?
I consider myself an atheist/non-believer too and I also am really liking this Pope. He truly seems like he has a good heart and wants to do good in the world. I hope he can makes the changes he wants to make in the world.
Yep, I am an atheist/secular humanist and I also really like this pope fo his reforms. I NEVER thought I would say that about a religious leader. Now for equality for women, and birth control…
If only she had covered the “FORGIVENESS” part in the movie. If only!
Louis Z and his family were involved with this movie from the beginning.
Louis wanted his story to be told in a specific way and in a way people around the world could relate too and get inspiration from.
How about accepting the fact that the movie turned out the way HE wanted it?
Maya
You’re only half right. The final cut of the film was edited without his family or AJ being a part of it. The studio changed it to what they wanted. Louie saw a rough cut before he passed, but that is not the version we’re seeing in theatres.
That’s the studio’s version.
@Maya, Louis never saw the movie. He did however read the book which, he was certainly involved in helping write, and PRAISED the author, Laura Hilderbrand, repeatedly. To incorporate his entire life would have made the movie 12 plus hours. But to leave out the “heart” of the book, except for a few written blurbs at the end, for 2 or 3 more torture scenes, was just asinine in my opinion. What makes Louis story so interesting is what happened AFTER the war. There were MANY Louis Zamperini’s during WW2…
.
Did you read the book? Have you seen the movie or, are you just believing all the Tabloid stories and running with them? Yes, that is what I thought!
DJ
He did indeed see the movie. There was a special screening of a full, but rough cut set up for him and his family. After that there was some alterations made by the studio and notably not by Jolie in the final cut. That is what we’re viewing. Not the same variation as LZ saw before his passing.
@DJ
Pluhleeeze give it a rest. Seriously. Every post, condemning the movie and Jolie…It must get exhausting for you. Find another outlet. (Seriously, this sounds snarky but I’m saying it for your own sanity. I worry about you!)
@FLORC
That’s what I was gonna say. She JUST talked about showing a rough cut to Louis, while he was in the hospital, dying. She said how interesting/sad/unique it was to see someone at the end of their life, watching their life unfold on screen. And Louis’ family has been very open about the fact that they love the movie. Don’t see how that’s even debatable.
VC
I thought everyone knew LZ saw the film. It was well covered!
I remember how she spoke of that. I got teary at her reaction to his reaction.
@Florc, yes, a “rough cut”.
DJ
I don’t think you understand what this “rough cut” actually was. The end result to a polished cinema quality film can be the same film in every way except some small details. The rough part here lacked polish, but was in full the movie Jolie intended to make.
Of course, we now know later on the studio cut and added to the film changing some of the message.
Still, that doesn’t mean Louie watched some cut and paste of scene to scene without proper story flow or decent image quality.
I think your use of “rough” and the intended use of it are 2 different things. And just a small span of time ago you claimed he only read the book and not seen any film. Even a “rough” cut. Now we’re discussing the quality of the video he did see?
FLORC claims: Of course, we now know later on the studio cut and added to the film changing some of the message
You got a legitimate source for that ? The anti-Angelina posse have been doing and saying every nonsensical thing they can conjure up to make it seem like she had nothing to do with the directing of this film. They were also trying to suggest she had nothing to do with the editing which both editors have discussed as sheer nonsense describing the actual editing process.
Katherine
Sorry for late reply.
The story with sources was actually covered here during the time right before LZ passed. When he was in the hospital. It was also covered on numerous other sites that cited sources during that same time period. This happened.
Yeah, take that Golden Globes and listen up Oscar!! 😀
Parents splitting kids into 1/3rd and 2/3rds I am guessing. Why Knox and V don’t get any action? Anyway, great that Papal got to see the movie. Awards, who cares? Shiloh in suit and Z got to see the pope, good enough.
I think Zahara is with Angelina because as someone upthread said it is her birthday today. AJ probably didn’t want to miss it.
They are also the youngest and perhaps would have been bored. I don’t know about Maddox and Pax–though Maddox did get the opportunity to go to the Oscars with his parents. But Shiloh and Zahara are at a really good age–old enough to behave and be interested and aware of what was going on.
Jenni, who would be more comfortable calling Shiloh “John”, you or the woman who gave birth to her. You should be ashamed of yourself picking on a eight year child.
Good for her! But, coincidence or conspiracy (as Lainey says)….could any media trick be bigger in terms of profile than screening for the dang POPE to persuade the Academy to giving her an Oscar nomination?
Might be a little late for that.
The voting for the nominations ended today and the results will be announced next Thursday.
I don’t think the pope’s people would shcedule it to fit Oscar timing.
Oh, haven’t you heard? It’s a world wide conspiracy to make people believe Angelina Jolie does anything or that anyone respects her or her work – that she allegedly doesn’t do.
I wouldn’t be surprised–plus it kills two birds with one stone. It’s greater, international coverage (and there is a segment of the population, I’m assuming, that will hear about this, because the Pope is involved). And it’s not just a question of Angelina wanted to be recognized for her work–it also has to do with her future as a director, and with working with Universal in the future. Universal is the ones that pushed this movie as an Oscar contender–it’s not ALL Angelina’s decision.
And Angelina has to deliver. Especially since she picked an unknown cast (which I love). And despite all of our scoffing about the Oscars–they’re still a big deal. And an Oscar nomination, brings you places. It follows you for years. If this movie is nominated for ANY of the Oscars, it’ll be: “Angelina Jolie, who directed the Oscar nominated movie…..”, “Jack O’Connell, the lead actor in the Oscar nominated movie…”…it almost doesn’t matter if you win.
But just me–I guess I don’t really see how this would help the Oscar voters. One thing I’ve definitely learned is that they always vote for their friends (Liam Neeson said this a few years ago–how he doesn’t vote in the Oscars, even though he gets screeners–because he doesn’t have time to watch all of the movies, and how he thinks they just vote for their friends)…..and almost every review I’ve read has complained about torture p-rn….
EDIT: I see Maya’s comment about the Oscar noms voting already ending….yeah.
Oscar noms or even Oscar wins don’t usually have any effect on an actor’s career beyond that one season. Two words: Hilary Swank. Two more: Helen Hunt.
Angie is truly amazing!
First, she was honored by the Queen of England and now the Pope. It’s such a great honor for her to be invited by the Pope or the Vatican. The Pope is a very busy person but gave her the time. Winning an Oscar can’t beat that!
She’s already won an Oscar. She’s good.
This is really amazing.
And it was so great that Louis’ son Luke was there to representing his father and family. And yes an HONOR that the film was asked to premiere at the Vatican.
it has been an amazing year.. 2014 The Queen and now 2015 starts off with the Pope.. How many others can say the same
Well done Angie..well done.. And I hope this helps to get more interest for the film World Wide..
Shiloh goes by John now. You should respect that in your posts.
Brad and Angie have never called their daughter John. That John story is a old recycled story from Brad Pitt’ s 2008 Oprah interview.
And she’s not reading these stories anyway. Even they call her that en famille, it’s not her legal name. I don’t think she’s being disrespected at all. If it was a big deal, I’m sure her parents would have said something to the press.
@Kori In interviews Brad and Angelina have given talking about their children they call their daughter, Shiloh, Shi, she, and her not John, he, or him. I doubt they even address her as John at home. She was two years old and wanted to be called John or Peter because of Peter Pan.
@T
There is something other level scary when grown women especially fill the need to focus on the sexuality of a child. Especially when they troll sites to do so.
Yep. Guys don’t feed the trolls!
Yeah, and when I was 8 I ran around in a pirate costume for three days straight… I didn’t grow up to be a pirate. I don’t even like pirates. Really, kids just go through phases for their own odd little reasons.
I wonder what was the last minute change that prevented Brad from going.
I think she takes kids 2 at a time so she can 1) spend quality time with them and 2) they probably don’t want to be dragged out and on display all the time. They’d probably rather be home playing on the computer or whatever kids like to do.
@ Other Renee,
I wonder too.
UsWeekly magazine never mentions Brad.Usweekly.com mentioned Brad yesterday morning. When they saw the pics from Rome yesterday. They changed their story later in the day There is no evidence that the rest of the family even flew to Rome.
How do we even know if he was ever scheduled to be there? Brad has said that he doesn’t really believe and James ‘ s now a minister I believe, so the way it happened is how it was probably planned.
I agree. US magazine reported him attending with Angelina and all their children. US magazine is a tabloid. They realized they were wrong and he wasn’t coming so they tried to change their story lol
They made up the rest of the story based on the pictures. Once they didn’t see Brad and the other kids they changed the story to something unexpected came up.
Photo assumptions.. this is how these tabloids write the vast majority of their stories. And there is something terribly gross about it.
Happy Birthday to Zahara, great way to begin your year and celebrate a birthday. Glad for Angelina, continued success in your many endeavors.
I’ve always thought that Zahara resembles Angie. Something about the eyes and upper face?
What an honour for Louie and for Angie! Each new honour seems to top the last. Who would have thought meeting the Queen could be surpassed?? An Oscar nom seems pretty boring comparatively but I’m sure she would still appreciate it. But I don’t think it would help the boxoffice as much as some Pope love. Unbroken was a great film and true to a great book. She has done so much to try to help people in bad situations. These accolades are more than deserved.
Some Pope love could certainly help the overseas box office, especially in Europe and Latin America.
The Pope didn’t watch the movie, he was in a meeting. The movie was screened in the Vatican compliments of Universal. I believe Angelina met him briefly afterwards. There are a lot of Catholics in Rome so they are probably trying to sell it as such. Good PR!
Pope Francis tries to influence the world towards a more pacifist stance and towards a better life for all people. Unbroken can certainly seen as a movie which is critical of wars. So if Pope Francis is seen as supporting such a movie it supports his position as well.
Jolie wins at life!
Happy birthday Zahara!

Thanks for posting. Both girls have good posture, and yes to the above poster (mememe) Zahara looks similar to Angie in some ways to some of us. Zahara is looking right at the Pope, she will not miss a thing.
Zahara is wearing the shoe necklace Louie gave to Angelina

Pope Francis seems to have more of a horizontal appeal than other recent popes (Pope Benedict is still my favorite). I hope that his populist magnetism goes beyond global humanitarian teaching. I hope he helps folks understand what the Catholic faith has to offer.
Re: Angelina’s kids, what is it with the one (girl) child always wearing boys clothing? Sorry, I love to see little girls in pretty little dresses. Angelina surely knows how to flaunt her femininity, what is going on with her kids?
Better question what’s going on with her marriage? Where’s Pitt? Have they been seen together since their blowout on the balcony?
Ohh Maggie – don’t celebrate just yet. Brad was pictured with Angelina in Las Vegas a few days ago. Just the two of them walking down the street. There were Twitter pictures of that.
Nice try, Maggie. Now go back to sticking pins in your Angelina Jolie sock puppet.
I was simply asking a question. No need to be defensive girls!
Agreed. Something smells rotten in the state of Denmark.
They’re at the AFI awards in LA, maggie. You satisfied? Do you want to put a tracking device on them so you can follow their every move? I mean, what’s it to you?
She lets her kids choose their own clothing styles. Good for her!
Good grief, the kid is 8 years old and wearing comfortable clothing. Let her be. I hated dresses as a kid but was forced to wear them. They really are designed to keep little girls from moving around freely, you have to think too much while wearing them. Must be a little lady, doncha know. I don’t even own one now. I also hate pink because I was overdosed on it as a child. The whole feminine/masculine thing is just trying to stuff people into tiny little boxes. It’s all cultural, not biological, and changes all the time. Has nothing to do with sexuality, either. Different people of all ages just have different tolerances for restrictions that come along with certain clothing types and also have different color preferences. Shiloh is lucky enough to have parents that let her make her own choices, within reason.
Awwww Maggie I feel So sorry for you and DJ..
At least Blueejay has toned down her hate and Maddelina is no where to be found how sad 🙁
Why not use google?there you can find pictures of them together since the alleged “balcony fight” at least pictures don’t lie….
On another note… Whatever happened to Cecilia? Maybe she changed her name…. Just wondering out loud.
Hate is a strong word. You should really think about taking it out of your vocabulary. And you’re right, pictures don’t lie. That’s why I’m asking about Pitt’s whereabouts since the balcony fight.
Give it up, Maggie. There was no balcony fight except in your overheated imagination. You saw a photo of two people talking on a balcony. That’s all.
@Andrea, oh hon, don’t pity me… PITY yourself.
Yeah, the Pittolie would never fight like the rest of us. They’re not mortal and they can’t share the same experiences that we do whilst living on a higher plain. That wasn’t a cigarette in her hand, either. It was a very short wand, emitting magical smoke.
Im amazed the Vatican is a Hollywood movie “coming attractions” billboard just like the one on Hollywood and Vine many years ago . The “girl” was a busty blonde cartoon named Angelique . Remember?
She slays us all. Dame/Santa Angelina is flawless. ❤️
Once a Catholic, always a Catholic, unless they excommunicate you, hehe. She’s a married lady now, she’s welcome before the Pope, lol, jk jk you guys. But it’s nice to see her chilling at the Vatican. It’s a magnificent place, the aura of peace and holiness and history there is overwhelming. Pope Francis is a good man, more of a preacher (by actions, which is good), whereas IMO Pope Benedict was more cerebral, the theologian and intellectual. I like them both.
