I had such high hopes for this year’s awards season fashion. I was so pleased that some of the young Fashion Girls were nominated for major awards. Between Emma Stone, Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones and Rosamund Pike, I figured we would be knee-deep in wall-to-wall fabulous fashion coverage. We would have fights and love-ins over crazy or killer style and it would all make me so happy. But it seems like some of these ladies are just phoning it in, right? These are photos of Felicity and Keira at last night’s Producers Guild Awards in LA. They were there supporting their respective films, The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game.
Felicity had the potential to be a Lupita Nyong’o-style red carpet breakout, but then… everything just sort of faded. Her Valentino at the PGAs was a perfect example. It’s not that this Valentino is completely bad or anything, it’s just NOT amazing and it’s NOT controversial. It’s just sort of grey and shiny and there and she didn’t even care enough to wear earrings. Blah. As for Keira… her pregnancy has done something to her mojo! Plus, Keira is a forever-Chanel girl, and these Chanel dresses are not doing much for her. At least her Chanel last night wasn’t actively terrible and unflattering though. Sigh… at least we still have Emma Stone. And maybe Keira and Felicity will really deliver tonight! Here’s hoping.
Anyway, this is your Open Post for tonight’s SAG Awards. E!’s red carpet starts at 6 pm EST and the actual awards show air on TNT starting at 8 pm EST. I always like the SAGs a lot – good fashion moments, but the event is more about the nominated actors rather than crazy presenters, you know? We’ll have full fashion coverage of the SAGs tomorrow, starting bright and early. My Twitter is here, KaiseratCB. Bedhead’s Twitter is BedheadatCB and CB’s Twitter is Celebitchy.

Keira’s dress is a monstrosity. I don’t care if it is Chanel, just no no no.
But…but…her hair looks really nice. 😀
I know, and I really think she’s pretty. But this outfit and that horrible thing at the Golden Globes…
The dresses with the exception of Emma Stone’s hit/miss and Julianne Moore’s usually train wreck, are going to be boring/bland like this season. I adore the front runners, but I need someone out of left field to get something or I’m going to pass out from boredom.
Does anyone else find Tony Hale attractive?
Lol, BUSTER?! Sort of…but now I have an image of him being a mama’s boy, so noooo…
Who would wanna “R” him? Me, that’s who!
Hopefully he has a whistle then!
Buster Bluth is a sweetheart though. He’s a better Motherboy than Leo DiCaprio.
And you know Lucille 2 would bring it on the red carpet…
As long as she didn’t have to turn around, because then you know she’d fall.
What confuses me about Keira’s pregnancy fashion is that she appears to be dressing really demure. The way she always joked about her lack of cleavage I’d assumed that she would embrace the bigger boobage and show it off. Apparently not.
Oh dear.
I love the top of Keira’s dress. The bottom is not terrible just looks very casual for this event. Its two pieces that look awkward together but probably very appealing apart.
She looks good from the waist up.
I love the top as well. The detailing is gorgeous…it’s like a super fancy peasant blouse (and I’m a sucker for a good peasant blouse). The bottom…it’s neither here nor there, but her hair looks great!
Keira’s fashion is so bad for me, because it seems like she thinks that because she’s pregnant she can wear a dress in a couple sizes up and be fine. NOOOO. Not for a freaking red carpet. I don’t even think the dress is that bad (although the top and bottom are too different–I love the skirt though), it’s just that she doesn’t seem to give a f-ck. She could’ve had it tailored to go around her gut, lol.
Tatiana Maslany is my favorite so far, but no one is there yet!
I loved hers, very modern and chic. Plus she’s just amazing.
I didn’t even know she was nominated. She’s so talented and I love Orphan Black.
Keira is such an attractive woman, but (not meaning to put down pregnant women), she just looks frumpy. Hair messy, ill fitting dresses and she looks miserable. Maybe she is having a bit of a tough time with this pregnancy and if that is the case, she is forgiven. If not, she is a mess.
+1
Kit Harrison is pint sized, huh?
Totally, Tom Cruise-sized.
How tall is that? 170 cm? Their official heights are always exaggerated, aren’t they?
I don’t know who’s more awkward the tv presenters or the actors. The second hand embarrassment is too much for me to handle sometimes.
Presenters are more awkward and create the discomfort. The actors need to be there or the show wouldn’t exist. I wish there was a constant stream of video of who enters like CSPAN does with the Correspondents’ dinner. that is my favorite coverage.
This red carpet is sartorially underwhelming.
The only people who don’t look awful so far are Arya and Sansa from GoT.
Natalie Dormer isn’t awful either, as GoT girls go. I’m not crazy about the dress or hair, but I’m not looking at her navel which is a plus, and while she’s not as glam as she could be, the look captures her personal style, so I give it a thumbs up. Agreed that Maisie looks great, but Sophie Turner’s shoes are a bit of a head-scratcher.
I want to see Lupita. She hit it out of the ballpark last year with that cornflower blue number.
I missed her. What’s she wearing?
Yep, she’s on the red carpet. Her dress is a bit “busy”, but it’s growing on me the more I look at it.
I think she looks awful. And I think she matched her eyeshadow to the dress, becaue of course she did. She reminds me a bit of Julianne Moore, stunning woman, awful dress sense.
I just saw her. Not bad. Not as good as last year but better than her blue Oscar dress.
Why are they both dressed like they just escaped Warren Jeffs’ compound?
Mailym Bialik – the black dress and emerald color earings combination is like the 2 years-later budget Jolie try.
Oh! Julianna Margulies finally brings something interesting this season! Love the color.
Natalie Dormer – I really like her gown
Totally agree with Natalie and JM- they are both stunning.
I just found Dormer’s photo. Very pretty.
Julianne Moore is perfection.
And she refused the mani cam! Finally someone refused. I wish they would retire that thing.
After Elizabeth Moss giving the finger last year, I’m surprised they’re still risking it. Personally, I think it makes everyone’s fingers look stubby.
I love that she said no, and you could tell she thought it was stupid – which it is. A few others refused as well, I really hope they get rid of it, it’s so lame.
Julianne looked AMAZING. That color on her is perfect.
JM looks great!! First home run of the evening.
I thought she was really acting like a snooty b…. about refusing the mani cam. Reese W. also. These Hollywood people need to get over themselves.
I think the mani cam is just one more way to harsh on the women and have them do ridiculous things like parade their fingers through a box. They don’t ask the men to do it.
There is no reason to carve women into parts even more than they do.
I don’t think e should drive what *should* be done on the carpet.
The mani cam is ridiculous. I would pass. They are actresses up for prestigious acting awards or presenters.
They did ask men to do it on music shows. I remeber some boy band simulated sex on the mani cam.
I think it’s fun, and I agree, she seemed like a snob.
I’m with you Charlie. Throw Jen A under that snob bus. What are they afraid how their hands look with age?? I just want to check out the gorgeous rocks….peace!
Taryn Manning – uh, what are you wearing and why does your hair and make-up look like that?
I love the jewels! What’s the harm? Totally get why she didn’t do it, but still would have liked to see the rings. And loved the silver dress from the GG much more than this green dress-it looks like Christmas!
I also like Moore’s GG look better.
Reese looks great.
She does.
Yep, she does.
Love what she’s been wearing lately.
Amy poehler looks pregnant !!! If she announces a pregnancy I called it first !
Ps Maria m sucks at interviewing
MTE! I feel bad if she’s not because that was totally my first thought.
I love Naomi Watts’s dress.
there are mothers of brides shrieking in horror because of the tack, tack, TACKY yet somehow utterly boring nature of Felicity’s sac-pas. Keira…my lovely Keira. WTF?!?!
Jenn is prime for a nip slip
If Aniston wanted me to stare at her rack, she’s gettin’ her wish.
There must be some industrial strength double sided tape at work there.
I kind of liked the dress, but the top is way too revealing. I don’t mind a plunging neckline but not when it’s that wide too.
Omigod poor Jen… trying to channel the other Jennifer (Lopez) and failing spectacularly. If you’re going to wear a dress like that you need to hoist the boobage. Get a boob lift STAT.
Poor Justin looks like he just had a root canal.
So over it. Why are she and Julia Roberts allergic to age-appropriate cleavage enhancing gowns that don’t plunge to the belly button?
Oh my, Emma Stone did it again… this time, it’s an ass train, rather than cape.
WTH is that tent that Rosamund Pike is wearing???
Camila Alves looks amazeballs. That color is stunning on her.
I love Rosamund’s look.
Felicity Jones also looks very pretty.
IKR! She wears a pregnancy tent and then does the “I gotta pee” leg cross for the photos. Mixed messages. Is she owning the pregnancy fashion or trying to look thinner??
But Rosamund already had the baby. Why wear a tent now. She is pretty though.
OMG!! I just saw Adrian Brody and Lenny Kravitz together. You know they will both be joining me in bed later.
Bahaha! Lucky woman, you!
Hussy. *sniffs*
Adrian Brody naked next to Lenny Kravitz?
Carrie Mathison is wearing Brody’s army (marines?) belt. That is a nice tribute.
I am totally underwhelmed with this red carpet.
Keira Knightley — no. Just, NO.
Felicity Jones — I like the dress but it needs some diamond or crystal earrings.
Julianne Moore — the color is lovely on her but the tank top styling makes her look kind of top-heavy.
Reese Witherspoon — is it just me or is she starting to look matronly?
Maria Menounos — looking great as per usual.
Uzo Aduba — Why in hell is she wearing a fishing net?
Emmy Rossum — I want that dress.
Viola Davis — you can do better. Not impressed.
Vicky Jeudy — Girl, bye!
I think Keira’s purple dress looks amazing.
I think it looks too much like Miz Ellen’s lace po’teers.
Alves,Witherspoon,Roberts ,Stone and Viola DAvis are my fav looks
Is Julia Roberts wearing a tuxedo onesie?
Viola, Julianne, Tatiana, and Reese were my favorites.
Patricia still looks so young in the face. She’s 46. I’m so happy for her.
Reese looks so classic, very elegant.
Patricia Arquette and JK Simmons FTW!
I haven’t seen The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Rossum looked great. Liked Knightley and Stone.
Julianne’s hair and makeup are perfection at the table. I didn’t see the red carpet.
Felicity’s dress is lovely! I love her style.
You go Viola Davis! So classy!
So worst dressed is Lorelei Linklater, right? I feel bad giving it to her, but that dress….no just no.
I concur, CK.
I loved it for the SAG and for a young college student. Be unique and fun.
I have to admit Julia Roberts has got her mojo back. She was dowdy looking for several years and a mature face without the sparkle she used to have. But she’s radiant looking the last two years and, for her, bringing it on the red carpet.
And Julianne Moore has never looked more beautiful. The color is spectacular on her and I love her hair. How is she 54 years old?
My favorite moment..the dogs in a Subaru..hehe..oh my..I adore rashida j, but that is a fugly dress…
Best Actor Oscar just heated up with Eddie winning the SAG.
I know!!! I jumped up and down when he won. Finally, some excitement. If he takes the BAFTA, as expected, he might have this thing in the bag.
With so many incredible performances, I tend to favor the older guys like Keaton. If he loses the Oscar, I hope it’s to Eddie. He gave such a great performance as Hawking.
I think Eddie has the best shot at the BAFTA.
I’m so happy Eddie won! He’s a really great actor and his performance in the Theory of Everything was amazing. I hope he wins the oscar. The movie is also fantastic.
OMG! I think I’m finally over Benny!! I actually jumped up and clapped when Eddie got the SAG award. Means Eddie’s got a shot at an Oscar and industry rags says he’s got the BAFTA in the bag too! Unless I find out something about Benny that causes me to feel empathy/sorry/pity for him, we are no longer an item. And besides, without the curls as Sherlock he looks like a goofball.
As a Benedict Cumberbatch fan in recovery, I am announcing that we will not have our usual 12-step meeting this week in celebration. Besides, we’re going to have 3 feet of snow soon.
@Natasha, not just snow but “thunder snow”
So excited that Eddie won- I’ve seen all of the nominated performances, and if I had a vote he would definitely get mine!! And on a superficial level, it makes the Oscars more exciting, considering that the other acting categories are locked down.
I think his performance was amazing also and most deserving and didn’t like how it’s been a sweep for Keaton at all the awards shows and Eddie overlooked. But he’s young. Michael did a fantastic job and has been around a long time, so will probably get the Oscar. But you never know.
Eddie really was amazing in TTOE. I think Keaton will win for Birdman but Eddie gave the better performance.
The score of TTOE was so beautiful, too.
I think the older AMPAS voters would be more likely to give it to Keaton as well. But I wasn’t expecting him to lose the SAG either, so who knows?? Eddie had the harder role imo and did a fantastic job so I wouldn’t begrudge him the win over my beloved Keaton.
Neither would I, and I adore Keaton, too.
Its funny because I didnt like TTOE at all and felt eddie was outgunned by felicity in it tbh.
at the same time, Eddie seems nice and probably needs this with jupiter ascending debacle and that godawful interview magazine spread
Figured Keaton would sweep, so did twitter apparently, lol
Best Picture’s is also gonna be tight — Birdman or Boyhood? Or will Grand Budapest sweep in as the dark horse?
Grand Budapest FTW!
Edit: Not to be. Sad. But Birdman is still good!
It’s a best actor ensemble award, not Best Movie.. So Birdman to me in that category. I think the best movie, though, is Boyhood and will win the Oscars.
Best Picture is a really tight race, I think. I’d love to see Grand Budapest win, but don’t rule out American Sniper – Clint Eastwood has a way of getting the Academy’s attention.
I loved them all for different reasons. I read a Deadline article that hypothesized if GBH sweeps in the crafts categories it has a chance at Best Picture since those voters are a large block of the AMPAS. It would be an outrageous upset for a dark comedy to win, don’t you think?
Can’t wait for Feb 22!
That’s my dream. I loved Birdman, but not as much as GBH simply because I love dark comedies and smart comedies in general. I still remember being about 10 and seeing Cary Grant in Arsenic and Old Lace for the first time at my grandparents house. It was so funny. I hope GBH does get it and shut down all the obvious hustlers!
GBH was my fav out of all the noms this year
Arsenic and Old Lace is one of the greatest movies ever. Would really love to see GBH win.
I just saw Uzo Aduba’s speech. She looked amazing in yellow, and her speech was spectacular. She made me cry.
I love that color on her but not that dress. It looks like a fisherman’s net.
Wow, so many people looked bad tonight. All that money and no taste. What a shame.
Reese–boring 1 shoulder, which has been done to death. But it fit nice.
Meryl Streep–mother of the bride wears black to her daughter’s goth wedding
Julia Roberts–tuxedo one-piece. How does she pee?
Rosamund–big black tent mullet dress
Keira–big purple tent non-mullet dress. She’s barely showing–why is she dressing as if she has a beach ball belly?
Jen Aniston: shower curtain with boobs. Putting the sag into the SAG awards. Trying to be J-Lo is always a fashion don’t.
Julianne Moore–a sparkly Christmas tree.
Okay, I still like her!
Felicity Jones–a blush napkin with brown hair.
And a whole bunch of ladies wearing tacky taffeta gowns straight from prom, circa 1985.
GEEZ, what is going on in the fashion world? They’re making some of the prettiest people look bad.
It was pretty awful tonight, but Camila Alves, Maria Menounos, and Lupita N’yongo looked great as usual. And OMG did you see Dame Joan?!
I totally agree about Camilla and Lupita.
I didn’t see what Maria was wearing but I’ll look now. The people who weren’t nominated looked so much better than those that were! Funny how that works 🙂
Aniston “putting the sag into the SAG awards.” was gold. Best comment of the night.
I’m loving the surprises from this season!
I thought Boyhood would snag Best Picture but it lost the Producers Guild award to Birdman. Totally didn’t see that coming; I thought if anyone would challenge Boyhood for PGA it’d be American Sniper or TIG. I think Boyhood is still the fave to win Best Picture at the Oscars but its lead has been considerably narrowed. It has swept the critics awards but has yet to win an industry guild award so far, which is troubling.
The Directors Guild award is crucial – it’d be between Inarritu and Linklater. Whichever movie – Birdman or Boyhood – wins DGA would likely carry the Best Picture momentum. Budapest is too arcane and whimsical for AMPAS’ tastes; TIG hasn’t got a chance as I don’t see Tyldum winning; and Eastwood isn’t even nominated for American Sniper.
The insane box office of American Sniper is creating a very impressive late surge but it has too much ground to make up now. The lack of a Director nom also hurts it.
The Best Actor race is getting very interesting. Cumberbatch I think is out since TIG hasn’t won a single major critics award or industry guild award. If anything it could pick up a win in one of the smaller categories like Adapted Screenplay or Score, but its Best Picture and Acting races are over I think. Keaton has been dealt a huge blow by losing SAG. And Cooper, like American Sniper, has a fair bit of ground to make up and the controversy over the movie doesn’t help, though he has the narrative of being a third-time nominee. The momentum is with Eddie now and if he wins BAFTA, the race is over cos he would have SAG + GG Drama + BAFTA under his belt and I can’t imagine him losing the Oscar by then. I hated Theory of Everything but Eddie was fantastic in it so I’m happy for him.
What a race this has turned out to be over the past day! 🙂
But Cooper wasn’t nominated for the SAG, probably because the film may not have been available by the time the SAG nominating votes were due. Same with Selma and the SAGS. Both American Sniper and Selma got nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars despite not making SAG’s list so things may be very different for the Oscars.
@lilacflowers
Yep I agree Cooper is a threat for Best Actor though I’d place him behind Redmayne for now. He has won virtually no precursors and hasn’t been campaigning much due to his Broadway commitments, while Redmayne has SAG, GG Drama, runner-up in some critics awards and looks likely to take BAFTA. For Cooper to win Best Actor at the Oscars with no precursors is literally unheard of (I can’t think of examples offhand), though American Sniper with its crazy box office takings and late surge seems to be creating an unprecedented narrative indeed. The thing is whether this box office performance could be sustained till nomination period in early Feb (I think it could but the wow factor would have faded somewhat). The Best Actor race has certainly turned very interesting.
American Sniper could win one of the tech categories. If Cooper wins Actor, it could take Picture. Selma unfortunately has little hope in Best Picture I think as it failed to get any Director, Acting, Screenplay or Editing noms indicating less support across the board. In fact I was shocked it got a Picture nom at all as it only snagged a nom in one other small category – Best Song. Paramount has really screwed up the campaign it seems.
Keaton or Cooper, although I wasn’t an AS fan.
Not on the Eddie love train at all. He shouldn’t be winning over David or Jake, it’s laughable.
I don’t think the Academy can ignore a 12 year passion project like Boyhood but they love rewarding movies about movies so … I’m guessing Birdman for Best Pic and Linklater for Best Director. It’s become more common to split these two awards lately. Budapest will get nods for its design and possibly Screenplay (they love rewarding writer-directors there).
Julianne Moore is a shoo-in for Actress, no one else is winning. Ditto Arquette and Simmons.
Best Actor has opened up and is super-tight now between Redmayne and Keaton. It makes for a nice change! The dark horse, imo, is Cooper. They love him and if it’s a close three-way race he could sneak through. Cumberbatch is definitely fourth now, the only person with less chance of winning the Oscar is Carell.
I’m please The Imitation Game has struck out. It’s very paint-by-numbers. I couldn’t take another year of Weinstein pushing a so-so movie to a win.
Oh and I assume Redmayne will win the BAFTA. I’m not sure how much that will tell us about the Oscars, though since it’s expected that the hometown boy will triumph in London.
@msd
I agree with your analysis! I’m expecting a Best Picture / Director split too, with Birdman for Picture and Linklater for Director (the Directors Guild award in a few weeks would shed further light). I’m also expecting Redmayne in Actor, Budapest in Oroginal Screenplay, Whiplash in Adapted Screenplay, Birdman (or Mr Turner) in Cinematography and Boyhood in Editing.
I’m not terribly confident though, cos if Birdman wins Picture it would be without any acting win (Norton and Emma Stone are unlikely to win their Supporting categories, and Keaton looks weakened after SAG) – but some contenders like Return of the King have managed to pull this off before. The Picture race between Birdman and Boyhood would be v close. I’m slightly favouring Birdman cos Boyhood feels too indie, too small scale, too suburban and domesticated as a Best Picture winner, while Birdman at least has the industry insider narrative going for it. American Sniper is a potential dark horse here as it feels the most traditionally Oscar-y.
I’m expecting Redmayne to take BAFTA too. Granted they don’t always go for the homeboy but this year Redmayne has a legit chance of winning Best Actor at the Oscars and the British bloc could throw their weight behind him. Cumberbatch fading away also helps consolidate their support for Eddie. Cooper could still be a threat at the Oscars but if Eddie wins BAFTA I think the race is over. Right now I have Eddie at No. 1 for the Oscars, followed closely by Keaton and Cooper, then Cumberbatch and Carell at a distant 4th and 5th.
And yes I’m glad TIG is shut out too! I don’t like the movie at all and I hate mediocre and formulaic Oscar bait. I hate TOE too, except for Eddie who was exceptional as Hawking.
Beth and msd, I concur with the exception of switching Picture and Director awards. I see Boyhood with its broad based appeal winning picture and Alejandro snagging the director award.
Glad to see TIG get shut out too. What an over hyped, formulaic movie. Eddie’s Hawking was better than Ben’s Turing. Hoping the BAFTA voters are astute enough to see it too.
Aniston won the SAG award, that’s for sure.
B00b joke right? That outfit was terrible. Just…no all around.
OMG Joan Collins!! I wanna look just like her when I grow up! 81 years old and drop-dead gorgeous! Go Dame Joan!
I haven’t checked all the red carpet looks but just got a glimpse of the winners list.
Frances Mc Dormand and William H.Macy won in their respective categories!! Fargo forever!
Plus Julianne Moore. I think I’m gonna throw myself a little Coen Brothers party.
Can someone help me out here? Where in the world is Mark Ruffalo, and why was he sleeping through the SAG Awards? Okay, I guess he’s filming somewhere. He said something about having to be awake in four hours on his FB page. Oooo. Maybe he’s in London, AoU reshoots?
Avengers Age of Ultron re-shoots in London?
@Lilacflowers–somehow I suspect I edited my comment AFTER you made yours!
And that IS my best guess for where he is. Wonder who he’s hanging out with?!
(And on that note, I retreat back to the last open Hiddle-post, where the most-kind MtnRunner has been plying me with DELICIOUS concoctions. Better even than absinthe!)
*hic*
habing troyuble typpping thus morgning…
@MtnRunner–there’s some nice new Hiddlenews for you over there. A reward for your generous bartending!
I loved him in The Normal Heart and hated he didn’t win a Golden Globe. I was so glad to see him win and he wasn’t there.
1. I thought Emmy Rossum looked most beautiful of all tonight.
2. Julianne Moore’s dress was a wonderful color on her and the dress itself was an improvement over her other recent RC looks.
3. Aniston’s hair and make up were great and she would have looked lovely in that color if only the gown hadn’t had such a gross, look-at-me neckline–HUGE mistake, especially after the plunging red pantsuit debacle the other night – I knew there would be a zillion “sag award” jokes and I felt bad for her. Her stylist really REALLY needs to go.
4. Camilla Alves looked lovely.
5. Julia Roberts–well, I just can’t stand her, so I guess I’ll never think she looks good.
6. Reese has looked better, though I liked the clean styling of her dress, but thought maybe she looked a bit matronly…?
7. Lupita is so beautiful and has such fashion sense that I always wait just to see what she’s wearing – but my inner-jury is still out on her look tonight, because although in some pics I love her dress, in other pics it looks like a paint-ball target.
8. I thought Keira’s rich purple gown looked gorgeous and was the perfect pregnancy garb, but I seem to be alone on this one, too.
I also loved Keira’s purple gown on her.
You’re not alone. I adore Keira’s look.
Lupita looked awful.
I’m glad that it was another losing streak for Benedict and I’m overall happy with whoever won although surprised that Michael Keaton didn’t win.
I still don’t understand all the love for Downton Abbey and think the other nominees were more worthy for the Ensemble Award.
Welp, may have more of a clue as to how/why a CERTAIN person was nominated for her confectionary work:
US Magazine has caught (via screenshots) that SAG Executive Vice President Gabrielle Carteris chose to sit at this Friend’s table.
Hmmmmm.
That is a seriously ugly Valentino. It’s looks good in it’s red version, definitely not in the grey.
Did anyone like Sofia Vergara’s tight red dress? She looks like she put on some weight. I wonder if she’s pregnant ???
Sigh!!! What the hell is going on there!! They all look like dolls made up and dressed up by little girls, somebody needs to help them with their fashion sense.
I heard that Vergara trying to get a surrogate to have their baby, she is just happy plump I guess.
