"As a parent, I cannot imagine a greater horror" – Special Envoy Angelina Jolie in #Iraq http://t.co/qfNQTxj45g pic.twitter.com/0CSearWzjJ
— USA for UNHCR (@UNRefugeeAgency) January 26, 2015
This is a very common thing for Angelina Jolie, to make a high-profile UNHCR trip in the middle of the awards season. Sometimes I think she does it because that’s just when her free time falls. Sometimes I think Angelina plans these trips as way to spotlight not only her cause, but her separation from the superficial, self-gratulatory awards cycle. While all of the Hollywood celebrities play with their trophies, Angelina is in a war zones and refugee camps, meeting with people who were tortured by ISIS.
Angelina flew out of LA on Friday and she was in a refugee camp in Iraqi Kurdistan on Sunday. She spent time with Iraqi refugees fleeing ISIS and Syrian refugees fleeing what amounts to a catastrophic civil war. Angelina hasn’t been inside Iraq since 2012, when she was visiting the same camps. In 2012, the camps were already overflowing. Nowadays, they are beyond overflowing. 3.3 million refugees are crowded in camps built for only a few hundred thousand. You can read Angelina’s statements about the crisis here, at UNHCR.org. She said that Syria is the biggest problem facing the Middle East right now. She also expressed her sympathy to the family of the Japanese hostage murdered by ISIS.
The UNHCR also released a video of her trip:
In case anyone thinks Angelina is just doing this for attention… yeah, NO. Those were real tears and real emotions when she was meeting with refugees. And as the UNHCR voiceover clearly states, the UNHCR is trying to maintain these camps (and camps around the world) with a major budget shortfall. Angelina was sent out not just to monitor the state of these refugees, but to shame donor countries into giving more money. Besides all that, even though Iraqi Kurdistan is one of the safer places to be in the Middle East these days (that’s not saying much), this was still an incredibly dangerous journey for Angelina to take. Surely if her goal was just “getting attention,” she would have just wandered around LA wearing something cleavagey.

The suffering going on is beyond the imagination. The genocide, the rapes, being sold into slavery- no one is paying attention to any of this. Bless Angelina. To see what’s happening to human beings thanks to these extremists defies description. The world is not safe with these extremists in it.
I applaud her for doing this! Its been 14years now. This isn’t for publicity she puts her passion and soul into it…
The haters can go on about her but she doesn’t have to do this work. She could have worn ‘sacred’ jewellery to an award ceremony for luck (wink wink like JA). She has more cojones than a lot of men. 14 years she’s travelled to dangerous places. Never mind she has protection ppl still get shot or blown up with or without a bullet proof vest. She has travelled on to some of those countries when she has been pregnant!!!
Love her.
I agree. 14 years is dedication without a doubt.
I totally agree. There is so much beyond what i can even fathom that goes on outside of my life, my city, my state, my country……so much. She is extremely brave for doing this, extremely brave. It’s horrid what goes on while so many of us in whine and complain of our lives…..shame on us.
I love AJ and the work she does w/UNHCR, an organization I support. Maybe she decided to go on this trip as soon as Unbroken was not in Oscar contention. So if this was timed so as to get more attention during awards season, then I’m all for it.
you can say anything about her, but this is commendable. from someone who’s not her fan.
My entire opinion of Angelina changed watching this video. There was so much warmth between her, and the people she visited. They believe that she cares – I loved the kisses with the older woman left with two grandchildren. The children around her were happy and excited in her company. It kinda made me teary, watching her tenderness.
(Kate is a royal who is not able to connect in this way – it’s painful to watch the faces of those with whom she interacts).
The most beautiful she looks it happens when she is with these people.
I am no fan of her work as an actress.. but I do admire her support to good causes like this one.
She is a remarkable human being.
Yes I agree! Every time I see one of these posts and I read the Angie shade about her UNHCR work it pisses me off. I’ve been doing aid work now for many years and I know I’ve mentioned it a million times (sorry for the repetition if it irritates some 🙂 ), but when I was in Darfur, she came for a visit, and not only did it really boost the team’s morale (EVERYONE was super excited about her being there) but she brought a lot of visibility to a terrible situation.
Like her acting or not, when it comes to the plight of refugees she does amazing work.
As someone who wanted to get into aid work (and maybe I still do, I’m not sure given what I’ve read about it), how would you consider Jolie’s work representative to aid work? This is more like a general question rather than attacking Jolie.
The research I’ve done surrounding humanitarian work, leads me to believe that most organisations are too bureaucratic as many aid workers say that their day mainly exists for briefings-debriefings and meetings. And then writing reports. It’s no secret that the UN is corrupt and in fact are one of the biggest culprits in breaking human rights. The UN also has a bad reputation among aid workers who work for NGOs, it’s considered ‘selling your soul’.
I’ve got a general sense of disillusion and boredom from aid workers. There is one really good blogger who is an emergency aid worker. I think you might like his work. He writes about aid work in various aspects. His most shocking ‘reveals’ is the high rates of mental health issues and the types of people who go into aid work:
https://morealtitude.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/becoming-an-aid-worker-part-2-aid-work-is-a-profession/
Anyway, my views have considerably changed and Jolie is not a representative of real aid work to me (I used to think she was). She even said (paraphrasing here) that without the people who draft policies, nothing would happen.
Not that I don’t think that she does good (she does, a lot!) but her strength comes from her ability to do donate money to get things made, not her ability to speak on behalf of people and tell political leaders what to do. She doesn’t need the UN to do that (plenty of people get things done without representing an agency). She advocates on behalf of people without being able to really be truthful as she doesn’t want to piss off political leaders. She is just like any other politician describing ideas extremely vaguely and while well-intentioned (only some political leaders), I wonder what ‘change’ that attitude can really bring.
The UN is controlled by big nations, it baffles me that she wants to be part of such an organisation that actively damages human rights, she must know what’s truly going on but rather try and change from within I suppose? I don’t know but aid work seems a hell of a lot more complicated than I my idealistic dumbass first thought.
@Snazzy thanks for sharing that with us! God bless you for your efforts too!
She is an amazing human being. She is bringing very much needed attention to the subject and certainly that has political and social consequences…and this is no easy job either. I can never understand the snark on this subject.
@ Snazzy: Thank you too for being out there doing something for people who really are in need!
And she actually is involved, not just posting a selfie to supposedly raise awareness and calling it a day.
Excellent post Kaiser. I agree completely. I made a donation and I hope others will as well. The thought of the children especially breaks my heart.
+3300000
It’s so wonderful and amazing to see Angelina put some sort of attention into a situation that is absolutely horrific. And I love her for that.
But Also, it’s equally, if not more amazing to see you donating. That’s a wonderful thing to do.
Just wonderful
Just made a donation myself. Hopefully many, many more will follow suit. Bless Angie for continuing to bring awareness to these situations.
Agree 100%. And your “wandered around LA wearing something cleavagey” is epic shade. Epic, I tell you. And before the naysayers jump up stating how she’s doing this consistent charity work for publicity, please do tell me which of her A-list fellow actresses, otherwise known for shilling cosmetics , websites and other crap, do it too. Right….
I also don’t get the argument that she is doing this for publicity. I could understand the skepticism when she first started out, but she has so consistently brought attention to the plight of women and children, that I can’t believe people still think this is just one big game being played by her. She educates herself and speaks intelligently about the issues. I respect that.
And she has been doing it for 14 years now. I think it’s more than just a publicity stunt at this point.
Of course she hasn’t defeated ISIS but she would if she could! She is reminding everyone that this problem still exists and is getting worse and worse. And that puts pressure on the people who can take action to stop ISIS. So in a way I guess she can stop them :).
‘Walking around LA wearing something cleavagey.’ Now , who do we know that fits that description? Hmmm, I wonder…#stealthshadebomb
I completely agree with what everyone has said so far. Also, if she was just doing this for publicity, would she really travel to faraway dangerous places like Kurdistan? She could easily just do an appearance at a UNHCR event in New York or Geneva. Angie is actually on the ground, meeting with people, listening to their stories and connecting as best as she can to their suffering. This is not for publicity.
Cosign. Amazing woman!
Yes, I’m sure there’s a little bit of purposeful contrast going on here, but good on her. No matter motivation, she’s highlighting an important cause.
I really do not think she alone calendarizes her trips. It takes a lot of logistics to organize such a trip with all the implications.
This winter time is really hard for the refugees, so highlighting their pledge is important so their tragedy does not get forgotten.
and actually at the UNHCR office here in Geneva there are people actually allocated to her to help organise the trips, check security, etc.
Exactly, Ennie. She doesn’t just get to decide that because she wasn’t nominated for any awards, that she’s going to do a high profile visit, in accordance to her Special Envoy status. This stuff is planned out. Now, she probably figured, after a certain point, that she was going to be free i.e. have no public work events to go to, and so she probably updated them on her schedule, but it’s a load of crap to say that she went JUST because she wanted attention when she wasn’t nominated for any awards.
And seriously–with all she has seen, I doubt, on a personal level that she even gives a flying f-ck about awards. I think she, like a lot of other actors/directors/producers/studios see awards as something that boosts the profile of a film, but in the end, hers didn’t need it. People saw it. People are continuing to see the movie. Job done. And after all she’s seen, all she knows is coming (ToodySezHey posted a comment below about ISIS calling for genital mutilation of all women)….why would she care THAT much? Nothing that she sees is a joke.
Or maybe it just falls after Thanksgiving, Christmas and after her job promoting her film is done? It’s not like ‘Award season,’ is one week in November, it’s literally an entire quarter of a year. You could say anyone planning anything from November to almost March – is looking for a ‘contrast.’ I do think she tends to think it’s ‘silly,’ she’s said so.
She walks the talk. So many celebrities only do “glam” charity events where they dress up and walk a carpet. I really admire how committed Angie is to do this work.
Her consistent commitment really is something to be admired.
Thank you so much for getting “walk the talk” right. I cringe when people say, “walk the walk”. Edward Demming and I thank you.
There are far more cameras covering all the industry parties if she simply wanted to be seen. She has taken over 50 UN trips since becoming involved in 2001.
I think the fact that she has been doing this since 2001 should really be emphasized. She did not “discover Africa” like so many others have done when it was popular and was the thing to do to look concerned about the world. I think this cause is genuine and real for her and she does a great job. And at this point in time, she does not have any “image” problems to fix. She was not made a Dame for nothing.
I will never understand that when you read about Clooney, Damon or others, especially men, doing humanitarian work, it is never ridiculed. But they and others started AFTER Angelina, so she is really one of the gold standard. She did not start the actor as humanitarian cause, but she has helped move it along and serves as an example of how it is done.
Excellent post, Jen. Correct me if I’m wrong. Clooney, I think, and his father made one trip to Africa and took along a camera crew? Did they return after that for a follow up without the camera crew? What about Ben Affleck? Didn’t he produce something or the other about his itinerary? And you are so right, these men all came after Angie, and they get more recognition than she does. But Angie doesn’t do it for the recognition, she does it because she cares.
@GoOn, yes, George went with his dad. Not putting down what he does, but he was just so dramatic about it. He has made a few other trips, I don’t know how many, but not many. He stopped doing UN work as well.
Clooney admitted in an interview for Ocean’s 13 (one he did with Brad) that Brad and Angelina, especially Angelina was what made him start his work. The Dafur Charity that he works with was really started by himself, Pitt, Damon, Cheadle and the producer of the Ocean’s films, but you would never know it, he hardly ever gives them any credit. Pitt and Bono started the One Campaign together, but Pitt moved on to work with his Make It Right activities and Damon moved in. Don’t get me wrong, I admire Clooney and Damon and others for the work they do, but it is somehow made more important than what Angelina does, and it is because they are so generous and nothing about being for publicity or image and that is what annoys me. I don’t really know much about Affleck.
such a good point about the men not being held suspect in their intentions.
what saddens me is that I believe that it is women who are the most critical of her and don’t have any greater explanation than an offshoot of ‘the triangle’
I think she is at her most beautiful when she does things like this. I hope that her kindness and care brought a moment of peace to those with whom she spoke, even if it was just a small moment. I hope that the little children with whom she walked felt a sense of encouragement, no matter how slight.
~~sighs~~
This will be her 14th year working with the UN..and of course there are still people screaming she is doing it to “change her image”..whatever.
When she makes these trips the UN always reports a surge in donations. So yes it matters. Brad said in an interview that she is constantly getting calls to go here or there. She goes where she is asked to go. Do people actually think she wakes up one morning on a whim and decides to go on a trip. It takes planning.. and according to the UN she pays for her own travel expenses.
Good for her and her commitment. Because she is and has been doing this for a long time. Charity makes you feel good and useful. How that is a bad thing is beyond my understanding. Her job is to draw attention. She is doing that.
Excellent post Lisa! Her involvement with the UN is how I became a fan of hers. It is a side of her that sets her apart from most other celebrities.
Very well said Lisa.
Well said Lisa – people claim that Angelina going on these trips helps in any way.
But it does because not only does she bring the media to the causes – the donations raise tremendously afterwards.
She is not one of the fake humanitarians who pretends to care when it suits them and their image. She donates millions of her own money and checks on them to see if they are used for right causes. Brad is similar too, a great partner for her, great couple.
I can’t even imagine the horror of their daughters being kidnapped and abused by IS, just can’t go there, scary.
Don’t forget she was asked to go in one of these trips when she had just had her double mastectomy and still healing (and yet to reveal the sx). She could have delayed it but she goes when she is ask eg pregnant or not.
After it was revealed, William Hague, British Foreign Secretary said she must have been in pain but never complained or mentioned anything. The trip was not a luxury trip but difficult travelling.
I don’t know her. I’ve never met her. But I LOVE HER ! What a wonderful soul she has.

Agreed re: walking the walk, and her version of helping vs. that of other celebs. She’s there in it, in spite of the danger and what is assuredly a grave emotional toll. And she puts her money where her mouth is, too. From her wacky antics in the past to stuff like this, Angelina Jolie has always seemed like one of the most unabashedly real people in an industry rooted in artifice.
And, post-holiday money tightness bedamned, I’m donating.
(Thanks, Celebitchy and Ang, for the reality check. Really kinda puts snow in perspective.)
Not her fault, but the fact that we need a celebrity to make us pay attention sucks.
Apologies, duplicate post deleted.
Tarsha because everyone is still in love with Rachel from Friends and won’t let it go.Elizabeth Taylor was disliked for years because of her personal life but was forgiven in her later years because of all the work she did for Aids.Maybe these haters of today will do the same thing.
An awfully trivial aspect to focus on, but: I find it very very moving when Angelina hugs or cries with those she listens to, as we saw in the clip. There’s some spiritual transaction there: she absorbing pain, the sufferer absorbing a drop of soothing love, or at least human compassion, where for years strangers have meant heartbreak to them. I feel AJ is well aware that she has this extraordinary ‘Mater Dolorosa’ gift, and she uses it with great grace.
I agree about the gift, but disagree that it’s trivial. That last sentence is dead on.
I really can’t imagine there’s anyone left in the entire universe who could (objectively) write off Jolie’s ‘spotlighting’ as personal attention seeking. It’s clear as day it’s what drives her and when she’s most in her element.
Keep on keeping on with your attention-seeking, Ms Jolie.
I will never understand the hate this woman gets. She is harmless and has never done a thing to hurt anyone. All she has done is good. She is an excellent role model for our children. She is a good, decent woman.
Don’t you know she destroyed the greatest, most epic love story the world has ever known, used her evil powers to lure away a man from America’s Most Beloved and Cleavagey Sweetheart?
You must be new here.
Now epiphany let’s get it right. She not only lured, but she “stole” the man and destroyed the greatest love affair ever? Just ask you know who. It’s been 10 years and she can’t and won’t let go. Saying this, I admire Angie so much. She’s beautiful on the inside which shows up on her outside.
No no no – you got it wrong. She destroyed the most epic love story ever this world AND the other worlds have ever seen, experienced or known….
Not to mention, destroying the Duggar-esque horde of blonde babies that would have been born.
@ Evyn, but even worse, AJ had the blonde babies. The world was shocked!!
And this is why the triangle never dies. People can’t seem to stop bringing it up. Don’t blame Aniston for complaining about the tabloids flogging that dead horse. It’s posters like you who keep it going.
Let.it.go.already.
daughterofjean, people are having a good laugh. Lighten up.
😉
While I have never been to a refugee camp, I work with many people who have and they are overwhelmed by the level of suffering in camps. Families have lost everything. They are dealing with injuries, sickness, hunger, cold, not to mention the trauma of war and destruction. No one goes to a place like that for publicity. They go because they truly care.
Good for Angelina for bringing attention to a massive and growing humanitarian crisis.
I never understood the “only does it for attention” comments either. If she wanted attention there’s a lot easier, safer ways to do it. Angelina doesn’t show up to random parties and events that she has no association with. She doesn’t shill every product under the sun. For somebody so desperate for attention she’s does very little to get it. I’m also sure there will be dozens of “her trips doesn’t do anything” comments. Funny how the haters expect Angelina to bring world peace but don’t hold politicians and military accountable.
Excuse me? One of the safer places in the Middle East but that’s not saying much? Have you read about the peaceful populations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Dubai, Kuwait, UAE, Jordan…? So ridiculous. As if the Middle East is some alien place where everyone is killing each other. NO.
I agree with you.
And Qatar 🙂
Exactly.
I actually work in the conflict resolution field and let me tell you Iraq Kurdistan is far down on the list. Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, turkey, Iran, Israel, Palestine, heck even Lebanon are much safer than Iraqi kurdistan. And I say this as a middle easterner too…
Kind of sick of the whole the Middle East is a big bad scary place. :/
I totally agree with you all.
Been to UAE and Qatar and I must say I had a great time there. Not all of middle east is war torn..
I have family in Oman and it is one of the best places i’ve EVER been to! I roadtripped around the country with 3 other cousins after we graduated high school. Spent about a week and a half there. BEAUTIFUL, gorgeous country. I highly recommend it as a tourist destination.
I’m always in disbelief over the number of people who are ignorantly touting the ‘dangers’ of an entire continent.
When I read it I understood that as one of the safer places of the ones in conflict. In my case, I know that not all the middle East is “burning” as in being a hotspot of danger. Of course there are regions and countries. Of course there are safer zones and countries – those that have been harboring so many refugees-. Thanks God that they have a place where they will be received.
This should not be happening, poor families. I pray for the weak, the elders and the orphan children. Good for AJ for highlighting these issues one more time.
She is using her fame for a good cause. No rational person should have a problem with that.
What a lady! Admirable work, Dame Jolie! Hopefully her peers can follow suit. I would love for her to go to Mexico and Latin America so she can bring light and hope to refugees from the war on drugs and guerrillas.
Actually, she was in Colombia and Peru last year to see the refugées. 🙂
For those people who still calls this publicity stunt – well you should look up the word “awareness”.
Angelina signed on to UN to bring awareness to various causes the world and it’s leaders have forgotten or doesn’t want to acknowledge. To this day – I have never seen Angelina critize the governments or freedom fighters or terrorists etc who are fighting the wars. She always only focuses on the innocent victims who are stuck in the middle. These victims’ voices have been repressed and silenced and Angelina as part of her role – is making sure that the voices aren’t silenced completely and thar they are being heard.
Not only does she donate 1/3 of her income to various causes, she actually spends hours talking to victims. This is how she was a part of the team who last created the wartime rape as war crime. Wartime rape has been happening for centuries and yet no one has done anything to make it part of the War tribunal. Angelina and her team did that and millions of victims from war torn countries are thanking her for it.
What I love about Angelina and Brad is that – while Angelina focuses on overseas, Brad focuses on USA,
Here is a list of humanitarian work Angelina has been doing since 2001 and Brad has been doing since he got together with Angelina
https://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/angelina-jolie
Angie is amazing. She is tireless when it comes to her humanitarian work. She is one of a kind in HW. She doesn’t even talk, she just walks it. she does what she wants to do or achieve in life and does it so well.
You know, unlike some actress who talks all the time about wanting to direct or that they are up for a bigger purpose in life, or that they want kids, but never does it actually.
Btw, it would have been great if all those millions of money spent on those GG/Oscar campaigns were contributed to UNHCR To help those refugees.
Oh, God bless her. It takes a strong person to do that kind of work.
Funny thing I noticed in the first picture is that she’s wearing big, warm winter coat and these kids are wearing just shirts and hardly socks. Is it cold in there and kids don’t have enough to wear or is she so skinny that she can’t keep warm in normal clothes anymore? Anyway, amazing job to bring attention to these things, that there are still so much suffering going on in this world.
you do realize that these people were fleeing.. they hardly were able to save their own lives yet along remember to grab a coat when it was probably not yet winter.. and many of the people standing with her are wearing coats so I guess they are unable to withstand the cold weather tool..
Angelina is skinny.. if you want to shade her on her weight then do it and not be so shady about it.
@Mew, who wrote: “Funny thing I noticed in the first picture is that she’s wearing big, warm winter coat and these kids are wearing just shirts and hardly socks.”
Are you talking about that ‘jacket’ Angie is wearing in the top photo??
She’d be a target for extremists. There’s probably a flak jacket underneath. I know she wore one when she went into Iraq pregnant with the twins.
Well, she is not at all used to the cold weather like the kids probably are. Plus my daughter is 10 and it’s all I can do to get her to wear long pants in the winter much less a coat.
Anyway, it seems kind of pointless to give that much of a thought – if she needs to wrap up to be comfortable and protect her health, so be it. She is still there.
I was just reading a these comments and I was so happy because the discussion was about the cause instead of fashion or looks. Not a single person commented on how she looked…until you. Hopefully we can continue conversations about substance. While I realize this is a gossip blog, I feel all the people who comment are intelligent and of substance. At a red carpet event, the discussion should be about hair, makeup, etc. When it’s something like this, we should be about to discuss more than how she looks.
WOW… She’s out there doing good and people like you posting bad. SAD!
I love Angelina’s dedication.
I do, too.
She genuinely cares and it’s obvious that the refugees, young and old, trust her and adore her.
I hope that her appearance will give UNHCR the financial boost it needs, at least from the public. Sadly, donor countries always have their own agendas. Note that the US is chronically on the deadbeat list when it comes to the UN in general, although it looks like donations can be given to individual subsets of the UN.
Go to the UNHCR website to donate, check up on donor countries, and to see more pics of Angelina’s visit and information about what UNHCR is trying to accomplish. She also has a personal profile under “UNHCR People”:
http://www.unhcr.org/cgi-bin/texis/vtx/home
The UNHCR site itself-so overwhelming. There is so much suffering in the world that it is mind boggling.
This is the Angie I love the most. The video is heartbreaking.
Things like this are what have made me an Angelina fan. I never liked her acting much and used to hate that she got with Brad when he was married, but you know what? She does so so much for the downtrodden, and she’s done this for a long time. She walks the walk. She uses her fame for good. Attention seeking? Yea, to attract attention to these causes. That’s her job, and she does it well. I don’t doubt her sincerity for a second. She’s become one of my favorite celebrities because of her humanitarian work. Love her and I wish her all the success in life. And; I really respect her relationships with her family. She and Brad are in it for the long haul and I hope they stay this happy forever. I think she’s made him a better person actually.
I’ve always thought she is the real prize in that relationship.
Of course, but her visiting brings awareness and dollars to help the people serving the refugees. I think that’s important too. She’s not saying she’s the one in the trenches.
And they should be applauded and admired for that.
But that doesn’t undermine what Angelina is doing in any way.
Two important things these people usually cannot help with is money and awareness. Enter Angelina – not only does she donate money herself, her presence brings awareness which in turn leads to donations.
I applaud the effort Angelina has made to bring awareness to the suffering of others. She has made mistakes in life and is far from perfect, just like the rest of us, but has tried her best to improve the lives of those living in situations that are beyond most people’s imagination. Angelina is a good person and so are all of you who have taken time to support her efforts via comments and/or donations.
Hear, hear Laura
Imagine if we were all continually defined by our own pasts, instead of who we are and what we do in the present.
Angelina IS an inspiration, like so many other unsung good people in the world. She also has the benefit of a high profile and influence, and is using it positively ..and that is flawless.
Angelina Jolie is loved and admired first for her humanitarianism and compassion before all else. The rest is just as some would say, the cherry on top.
I hope she keeps herself safe. I do not know how anyone works on anything on an international scale like this? I applaud anyone who could do it. I get nightmares when I read this stuff. I loose hope at the situation with the UN and World leaders included. I decided I need to stop reading the news.
I did prison volunteer work for for years until I had to stop for health reasons. I can do local stuff and seem to stay positive.
I wonder how many people who commented here do anything at all? I am curious to see what people decide to get involved in. I choose prison work because I saw so many young girls in for drug charges and what happened to their kids. Seeing a mom get herself together and off drugs and her kids back was worth it to me.
That photo of her face is one of the few where I can easily see that Jon Voigt is her father. Usually, I can’t see any resemblance between them at all.
She’s doing brave, meaningful, helpful things in this world. Great human being.
And so I am wondering why George Clooney and not Angelina Jolie got the Cecile B Demille award for humanitarian work at the Golden Globes?
@Amelie, who wrote: “And so I am wondering why George Clooney and not Angelina Jolie got the Cecile B Demille award for humanitarian work at the Golden Globes?”
Angie got the Academy Awards version last year. She was awards a special Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Awards Oscar.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ATgxOp31oI
She is obviously in it to do good. She’s been doing this sort if work for years. She could have said she could no longer continue due to her family responsibilities. I don’t know why anyone would want to second guess her motives. She is already rich and beautiful and she doesn’t have to be there. Wish people wouldn’t compare her to that other one or anyone else. She is her own person and in her own league. It really isn’t necessary.
Don’t comment too often here b/c I am ALWAYS at work…but….AJ isn’t providing relief work herself. She is shining the light on a terrible situation and bringing awareness to it. Her fame, her celebrity gets US to pay attention, or more attention! And yes, aid work is full of bureaucracy, but also does manage to provide some aid. It is such a complex situation that I don’t know if anyone could ever understand the depth of it. I applaud her and Brad for all they do. The could easily be sitting in their multi-million dollar home eating bon bons and boozing it up! Love ’em or hate ’em, you must admit they contribute a lot to this world. OK. Rant over!
Bless her for bringing this to the forefront.
She is awesome.
While I’ll agree that she really does seem dedicated to her cause, I just have a general distrust of celebrities and their humanitarian causes. Most of them are so uninvolved that it makes it difficult not to snear at those who are.
And this is why, of all the websites out there, I keep coming back here! Big like for the attitude ladies, I feel I don’t need to add anything more on AJ subject, bless her 🙂
