Madonna claims her Grammys flash was an ‘inspired wardrobe malfunction’

FFN_Grammy_Awards1_KMFF_020815_51648437

Let’s be generous to poor Madonna. If Kanye West hadn’t Kanye’d all over the Grammys, we probably would have given more attention to Madge and her somewhat desperate need to be the most controversial person in the room. We talked about her, for sure, but I think it makes Madonna sick that Kanye was and is still a bigger “controversy”. So Madge did an interview with Ryan Seacrest to talk about how she literally flashed her butt on the red carpet (NSFW photo here) and how we are living in The Golden Age of Butt so of course she had to ride that trend. Some highlights:

She claims she didn’t deliberately flash her butt: “I had an inspired wardrobe malfunction moment. As I was walking away, I wasn’t mooning – I just lifted my dress up. Mooning is like naked butt. Everyone’s seen my naked butt already… not for a while, not since the ’90s”

The Age of Ass: “It’s the age of ass, isn’t it? It was me having fun and being cheeky, no pun intended.”

Being in a harness for her Grammy performance: “The one thing everyone forgot to do, was tell me when I could sit up [in the harness]. So, I’m laying back there, like forever in this super extreme back bend, hanging over the audience. I was like ‘Can I sit up now? Is the camera off of me? No one said, ‘M you can sit up now’ in my ears. It was the one moment everyone overlooked. Eventually, I sat up and was like ‘Screw this, my back is killing me.’”

Whether she’s got a boyfriend: “Not really … not a special, you know… Not a steady dude, no.”

Whether she would have remarry: “I’m not going to say never, no. Maybe.”

[From The Daily Mail]

She’s so full of it if she’s trying to pretend like that flash was a “wardrobe malfunction.” She literally stood in front of a bank of cameras on the music industry’s biggest night and flashed her butt as soon as she got on the red carpet. And that’s who she is at this point – a 56 year old woman who meticulously plans out her stunt-queen moves to impress the kidz.

    Bi#ch Please!
So nobody in her entourage mentioned to her that her ass was out?

    • QQ says:

Everyone was too full of shame to tell her anything?

      • bondbabe says:

If they did say something, the [stunt] Queen would proclaim, “Off with their heads.”

      • Someonestolemyname says:

“if Madonna Calls, I’m Not Here.”

Woman Please ,you knew damn well you flashed your ass! Lol.

      • Fritanga says:

Of course not. It was a carefully calculated stunt by an aging woman desperate for any kind of attention and all her people were well aware she would do it. She probably thought it would be “controversial” instead of “gross.”

  2. Dawn says:

I don’t think so Madge and really that performance made me quite uncomfortable to see a 56 year old mother acting like that. You had your day and time and you created a great career and I will hate to see you diminish it by acting like the kid you no longer are. So stop it.

    • CB says:

It made me uncomfortable but not in any way that had to do with her age. It looked nightmarish and demonic. I don’t usually got all nutty about that, but seriously….this is the Grammys not the VMAs. We have exorcisms on it a few years back and then a return with this?

What the heck is going on? I guess they assume no kid wants to watch the show even though it starts at 8.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

That’s how I felt when Nicki Mi. Did her devil, dameon excorcist song on the Grammys a few years ago. Creepy.

    • Lucinda says:

Her being a mother is irrelevant here. Mothers can still be sexy. Her acting like she can do things she physically cannot do anymore is really the issue. The dancing was a joke. She moved like an old woman which would have been fine if she had been doing it with awareness but she had no self-awareness and that is the problem. She made a joke of herself. She is a music icon. No one can take that away from here but she just doesn’t seem to realize that. However, she never really understood that less really can be more.

      • Goodnight says:

I agree with this. Mothers can be sexy. Women in their 50s can be sexy. Two things made me uncomfortable:

        1) Seeing her dance. Not sure if it’s age or injury, but as someone who suffers from chronic pain I thought she looked very stilted and physically uncomfortable. Madonna has always been an amazing dancer so the performance was pretty shocking, especially since she’s still a physical person.

        2) The lyrics to the song. I found it pretty laughable that she opens with saying you should accept yourself as you are when she clearly does not heed her own advice.

I didn’t mind the costume too much because it was just that, a costume for a stage show. I’d prefer she’d let her confidence shine through and make her sexy like she used to outside of stage shows rather than trying to be sexy in the way the 20-somethings try to be sexy. She comes across as thirsty and desperate and people feel uncomfortable in the face of desperation. It’s unfortunate, because she’s Madonna and doesn’t need to resort to that shit.

When I was little, I walked in on my grandmother in her “foundationals”. There were straps, pulleys, bullet-pointed cups, everything was OPTIC white and made out of some shit that could stop bullets..it was bad for both of us. But not as bad as Madonna at the Grammys. Grammys…flashback. Jesus, Madge-put it away. Or at least some of it.

    • mimif says:

Lol kri, Kevlar Grammy. My grandmother *only* wore muumuus, which was as equally nightmarish.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

      Lol. Lol

    • DameEdna says:

Funniest thing I’ve read in ages.

My Scottish grandmother called her corsetry “stays”! And every body part obeyed her command, like a dog called to heel. Nothin’ messed with granny.

  4. maeliz says:

Her kids must worry what she’ll do evey time she steps outside. How embarrassing

  5. InvaderTak says:

    Go away.

  6. Jaded says:

Wow….the stench of desperation is actually coming through my computer.

    • khaveman says:

She’s sad. She doesn’t know when to leave the party.

      • Fritanga says:

She doesn’t have to leave the party – she’s earned her place at it (much as I’ve never liked her). Her problem is she’s still trying to take the place of a 25-year-old at that party, which hasn’t flown for at least 15 years. Too bad she can’t be like Helen Mirren or Jane Fonda, or even Annie Lennox, who are beautiful, stylish and totally alluring even though they’re past 60. The difference is they’re comfortable with who they are now. Obviously Madonna is not, and she insists on making a fool of herself with her terrible attempts to prove she still looks 25.

    • Sarah says:

Yes. She tries to be cool for the “kids” these days, but honestly, does anyone there actually look at her as anything other than an old relic from the 80’s and 90’s? She hasn’t been relevant musically in a decade at least. Once she stopped playing to her fans and started desperately trying to keep up with the pop tartlets, she lost me. Now she’s just sad.

    • Have an, desperation smells like teen spirit. Or maybe curry…

  7. funcakes says:

Poor Guy Richie was with her for ten years. TEN LOOOONG YEARS.

  8. MonicaQ says:

If this was 4 years ago, the story would be how her and Lady Gaga were breathing the same air.

  9. lower-case deb says:

    “The Age of the Ass”
please also spare a thought for the donkey who came to the party expecting to be feted.

on the other hand, i am extremely jealous of her. my bottom is the quintessential sag, it should be up for an award.

    • Jax says:

M’s may be sagging too, otherwise why the strap hoisting it up?

      • Fritanga says:

Right. When all is said and done, one can’t fight gravity and genetics. They get everyone in the end (har).

    • Cannibell says:

If you had six hours a day to work out, a personal trainer and the best plastic surgeon money could buy, you, too, would have the ass of your dreams. But I’m laying money, Deb, that you’d be a way better coffee date than Madonna.

  10. scout says:

Consciously uncouple your brain from fashion sense next time, for your kids’ sake!

  11. Wonderbunny says:

“Inspired wardrobe malfunction moment” sounds like some subset of Chewbacca defense.

  12. MC2 says:

I’m having second hand embarrassment for her…..

  13. Joy says:

I feel that kind of embarrassment one feels when you’re around like a mom or grandma who is recently divorced and wants to be sexy again. It’s so awkward and uncomfortable, and you just smile and nod. But inside you’re cringing. That’s where I am right now.

  14. Josefa says:

She seems like such an exhausting person to be around.

  15. The Original G says:

On a fashion note. What’s with the butt sling? I get the thong, but what is holding her butt cheeks up? Help me understand ladies.

    • Jayna says:

I don’t know, but I think it was so on the red carpet, her butt wouldn’t show in the short outfit. But all of that is moot since she desperately flashed her butt anyway. I try to forget that red carpet look. Thinking back to the Golden Globes three years ago, how pretty she looked in a gown, this red carpet was sad.

    • The Original G says:

Right. But I need to know if this cheek raising butt sling is a fashion “thing” I didn’t know about?

  16. PunkyMomma says:

She’s morphing into Marlena Dietrich, or at least she’s trying to emulate her. Marlena had a body stocking made out of parachute silk thread (read it in the bio her daughter wrote about her). A lot of engineering went into it, but it lifted Marlene’s booty beautifully. Madonna is just a copy cat. She’s never been original one bit.

  17. Jayna says:

I’ve been embarrassed for Madonna for a while now. She broke my heart with her horrible plastic surgery. Sure, it looks better now, but it changed her face at too many angles and I loved her interesting face. And all these older women (over 40), who get cheek implants and also filler, you can see how it pushes down the lower sides of their face. It ultimately hardens your look most of the time and does not make you look younger. Her twitter and instagram (I don’t belong) really flips me out how immature and desperate she seems. The grilles, the selfies with her boobs pushed up to to her neck, her desperate need to seem cool and is so out of touch.

You could never have told me the 47-year-old, bad-ass Confessions on a Dance Floor/Confessions Tour Madonna would be this Madonna in her 50s. I would have laughed at everybody.

But I do have her completely final (except mastering) album, and two-thirds of her leaked deluxe album I am bopping to. I am shocked. I am happy, because I have always been at the core of it all a huge Madonna fan of all periods. I loved her folk songs. I love her electronica music. MDNA was the biggest fall and perplexing. I guess that’s when Madonna was explicitly losing her way musically and desperate because even 2008’s Hard Candy did have some great retro disco/R&B songs on it that made it worthwhile.

I will never love Madonna again except pre 2008 Madonna. But I am so happy to have some new music that I love coming out.

She’s not going to find love until she has an epiphany and realizes how out of step she is. As cringeworthy and gross as her red carpet was, I will defend her performance completely. I thought she looked absolutely beautiful and I loved her costume. Those thinking at her age she shouldn’t be in that costume, take a seat. It was a beautiful costume on stage.

And I just saw Cher in her late sixties in tour in all of her skimpy outfits, even a version of her famous thong outfit, yes, she did,ass showing, and she looked ah-mazing, and Cher got zero flack at all. None. All of the older women and men in the audience were raving about her, all my age and younger were loving her. No one was going, oh, Cher, put clothes on. It’s Cher.

The difference was Cher wasn’t putting out a song called Bitch, I’m Madonna. LOL But she did put out dance music. I hate immature Madonna and some of her bad songs, but I love many of Madonna’s new songs that are great. And I have seen Madonna in all of her concerts for the last 14 years, and Madonna isn’t in skimpy clothes the whole concert. Far from it. She wears men pants with a white shirt, black jeans, long tunic, a stunning leather skirt to her knees with boots and a parisian cap. When she puts on a leotard here and there, more power to her, because she looks fantastic.

Bottom line, I don’t care what Madonna has to say anymore because she bores me, but I surprisingly love so many of the vulnerable ballads and cheeky dance music coming outand I am surprised she pulled it off. Actually some good Madonna music from her. I don’t need her to act some people’s version of 56 as an entertainer as long as the songs are there and fun. I will burn the God-awful songs on the album, because there are several.

Madonna’s only hope to get off of her antics is to find a guy she falls in love with who is someone who is very strong, who she admires and older (above at least late 30s) and snaps her out of this six year midlife crisis and that she gets her head out of her ass trying to cling to 20-something year old behavior and boys. It could happen. When that does, we might get a stunning album that hearkens back to her greatest music in the ’90s.

    • irm says:

I agre e with much of what you said. I saw her Like a Virgin tour in 1985 when I was 16. And I still own and love Ray of Light. I was SO disappointed several years back when she started so hard on the plastic surgery (she was so cool when younger, I thought she’d age in a bad as* way and show how it can be done on one’s own terms). But after that red carpet stunt at the grammys this weekend, I’m officially embarrassed and over her. I was thinking how she could have taken her seat among the icons-Bette, Cher, Barbara, etc, having influenced a couple of generations and broken many molds in the early part of her career. Even if the ‘kids today’ don’t get that and don’t understand her relevance, or b/c she’s ‘not that talented’, she would know what she accomplished. She could’ve done Vegas like Cher or Celine, too. She was legit. Now she looks a fool.

      • Jayna says:

Why in the world would she do Vegas? Tourwise, she is still at the top of her game. She’s the biggest touring female solo act in the world and no one has topped her yet for the highest selling tour each time for a solo artist. Her tours are in stadiums overseas and a few stadiums and mostly arenas here. Although, I did love the fact she wants to concentrate on more arenas this time, like the brilliant Confesssions Tour in 2006, to showcase the beauty of the tour better. instead of so many massive stadiums and lack of intimacy. I hope that’s true. Madonna visits countries all over the world to her huge fanbase overseas. She’s not going to settle into some residency in Las Vegas at 56. That’s like telling Depeche Mode or Bruce Springsteen to go settle into a residency, instead of traveling the world reaching out to all their fans Not going to happen. Their concerts are massive, as is Madonna’s.

Cher said doing Vegas was so depressing. She said she just looked out at old people settled in to see a Las Vegas show while in Vegas and she was a nostalgia act for them, lack of energy. Cher is a young spirit at heart. She went on tour last year and loved the energy of all age groups in different cities. She said it reinvigorated her.

    • Goodnight says:

I so agree. Madonna was a force, but she lost her confidence and her way musically at some point and now she is directionless and desperate to get back to where she was.

I agree with you about her costume during the show. I thought it was a gorgeous costume and she looked great. Her dancing worried me because she seemed in pain, and I don’t like the message of the song (or the music, really), but I’m definitely not faulting her for her look. She looked sexy and powerful when she didn’t look like she was in pain.

I just sigh when I see her antics on twitter and facebook and at awards shows. She doesn’t need to do that, she cemented her legend status long ago. She needs to take her cues from Cher and Cyndi Lauper and Annie Lennox, all of whom have transformed over the years and managed to keep producing great music, and all of whom are sexy, powerful ladies who get no grief for being sexy and powerful.

It’s all about confidence and knowing who you are. Those ladies are, and they do. Madonna no longer has confidence in her music and doesn’t know who she is, except perhaps when she’s performing.

  18. Lucy says:

Just think, how much cooler would she be if she actually owned her age and the moment she’s going through? She’d be at the same level of Annie Lennox, Sade, and many other amazing veteran pop stars.

    • Jayna says:

She puts on big pop shows. She does not have to be Sade or Annie, because that’s never been who she is. Her strength is as a performer. I want her to take out the grilles and stop with the desperation, but in no way does she have to give up putting on a huge pop show. That’s her strength. And Madonna’s shows have theatricality but they are in no way Madonna out dancing from beginning to end in leotards. Far from it. She has all kinds of sections to her tours. No stadiums filled with fans want Madonna being a Sade. Come on. I don’t. I get people hating the desperate Madonna, but I roll my eyes at people wanting her to be this sedate performer. She puts on the pop spectacles that still rival most young pop stars. I like bad-ass Madonna, but people have a real misconception about her tours and the different sections to them.

Madonna in 2012 live in concert – Masterpiece with the Kalakan Trio.
And, yes, Madonna can sing as proven below. And look at Rocco next to her in the beginning. He loves his mom so much and loves being on stage. And I have to say she looks beautiful here, as much as I complain about her plastic surgery. And this was after a big dance segment and she still looks fresh. The best song off of her last album.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvGrEWY7qHY

      • Lucy says:

Oh, I don’t doubt that at all. I’ve seen what she can do, and it’s truly impressive. I didn’t mean that she should give up on putting on big espectacles, or that she should just like Sade or Annie. I was merely talking about her obvious efforts to look and act like a 20 year-old just for the sake of staying relevant, when she could do it in a different way (as in, showcasing her talent as an entertainer) while owning the fact that she’s almost 60 years old, a very active and hard-working one.

  19. Debbie says:

Yeah, cuz who doesn’t want to see granny’s wrinkly 60 year old ass, and Depends?

  20. Nicolette says:

Inspirational my ass. It was in extreme bad taste. When you hit a certain age I don’t care how great a shape you may be in, it’s time to cover up. She doesn’t need to dress like granny but please, no one wants to see her nearly 60 year old ass on display. Just another pathetic attempt to cling to the relevance she once had.

  21. Mzizkrizten says:

I feel bad for her. To be her age and still be so insecure and desperate for attention is quite sad.

  22. jujubee says:

It’s called entertainment for a reason.
I thought her little flash of bum was funny and brave. I’m sure she’s highly aware of her body and the effects of aging but still has the guts to show a little skin. It was all in fun and well executed. Bravo Madonna!

    • anne_000 says:

She’s not owning up to flashing even though she did it on purpose. So that’s not brave. If she’s going to do something, then own it. Don’t come back with a lie.

I saw the video. She did it on purpose. She was mooning, even though she says she wasn’t. Her ‘denial’ makes the whole act weak.

      • jujubee says:

Maybe what she was really saying was, ‘Kiss my ass’ and if you don’t like it, don’t look.

    • Fritanga says:

Sorry; there has to be a time in every performer’s life when they just have to put it away, and Madge’s time was at least 10 years ago. Really – who wants to see her bare butt anymore? No one. It wasn’t “fun” – it was unseemly. Maybe that stuff worked 30 years ago, but it doesn’t when one’s pushing 60. And this is not a sexist remark – I wouldn’t want to see some bare 60-year-old man butt either.

I think the thing that bothers me most is that she doesn’t need to do this, and surely doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody. But she persists, and is just making herself look more and more pathetic.

      • jujubee says:

Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

These straight-laced comments condemning older women sound like young women who fear ageing or just plain party pooper, sad-sack shat throwers.

  23. Emily C. says:

I am so sick of butts. There are other body parts, people. Let’s start an elbow thing.

  24. Marianne says:

inspired wardrobe malfunction … conscious uncoupling … can’t wait to see what comes next!
