Sarah Palin says Bristol is ‘doing great’ after split

Alaska governor Sarah Palin is sort of talking about her daughter Bristol’s split with Levi Johnston. Gov. Palin was in a Juneau supermarket, helping out the Girl Scouts, when she gave what seems like an impromptu press conference. She brought along her three youngest children, as well as her grandchild Tripp, who is the son of Bristol and Levi.

I’m not sure what questions Gov. Palin got, but at some point someone asked where Bristol was, or how Bristol was doing. Gov. Palin answered that Bristol was appearing in her mother’s place at a miniature golf tournament/fundraiser, and that Bristol is “doing great, just great!” You betcha. People has more:

Alaska governor Sarah Palin strode through the produce section of Juneau’s Fred Meyer supermarket Saturday morning, smiling and waving with an entourage of youngsters in tow.

“These are my children, Willow, Piper and [11-month-old] Trig,” Palin told an excited group of Girl Scouts. Then Palin, 45, motioned to a baby bundled in a hoodie, held and bottle-fed by Piper. “And this is my grandbaby Tripp,” she said of the infant son of her daughter Bristol, 18.

“He’s only 2-months-old. It’s kind of surreal!,” she added.

Palin was taking a break from governing the nation’s largest state to help Juneau’s Girl Scout Troop 32 sell cookies after the group lost all for [sic] their previous proceeds in a robbery the week before. “I read about it in the newspaper and I said, ‘Well, me and the kids have an hour on Saturday, let’s go down and help,'” she explained. “This age is so precious.”

Missing from the Palin family group was Bristol, in the news after her split with Tripp’s father, Levi Johnston, 19. There’s no mystery, though. “Oh, Bristol is over at the state capitol building golfing in a miniature golf tournament,” Palin told PEOPLE. “It’s a fundraiser and she’s up there taking my place while I’m here.”

“Bristol is doing great, just great!,” Palin said.

During her hour and a half in the store, Palin, in jeans and purple down vest, walked the aisles urging shoppers to buy cookies while chatting with Girls Scouts clamoring to hold her hand. “Cool, she’s our babysitter!” said one of the scout moms with a laugh. Palin responded with a laugh of her own: “I was so glad to leave the office for this fun thing.”

Palin made several sweeps of the store (“Come buy cookies!) until she was diverted by an aisle of exercise equipment on sale. “Wait a minute, we need this for when it rains and I can’t run,” said the Governor, closely examining an elliptical trainer. PEOPLE asked Palin if she’d lost weight since the election. “I’ve lost weight since I had my baby,” she said. “Thanks for noticing!”

Still, Palin chipped in for several boxes of cookies for her family. “I love the Thin Mints,” she said. “But my daughters already told me I can’t get those, that I have to get the Samoas. Well, you know what? We’ll get both!”

From People Magazine

Mmm, Thin Mints. I can’t believe Sarah Palin and I both like the same kind of Girl Scout cookies. I didn’t really get what Gov. Palin was saying about losing weight after the baby was born. She’s talking about her baby Trig, and she gave birth to him last spring. She already had her figure back by September, for her Vice Presidential rollout, but I guess she’s lost even more weight.

So, was this Gov. Palin’s official “statement” about the Levi-Bristol split? I would have expected a lot more. Honestly, I was hoping for some gaffe-and-wink-filled press conference, but my hopes have been terribly dashed. Gov. Palin’s lack of any substantive comments on her daughter’s split seems both smart and classy. Way to go, you betcha.

  2. Hieronymus Grex says:

Remember America, unwed teenage mothers are BAD- unless their mom’s are faithful members of the GOP.

  3. Tia says:

Of course she did, because she is a cronic liar and wants us americans once again to appear stupid.. hey sarah, number one, we don’t give a shit, and number two.. stfu and go away you nobody.

  4. J-Lin says:

I love how they use Willow and Piper as nursemaids. Did it ever occur to Sister Sarah that Piper may want to be a Girl Scout as opposed to watching after an infant all the time?

  5. photo jojo says:

You know who is not doing great? That baby’s FATHER! Oh, this makes me so angry! That kid went along with everything that family asked of him and now they are barring him from seeing his child – how does THAT fit in with ‘family values’?!? Disgraceful!

  6. Jane says:

    I’m with Tia. GTFO!

I hope her snow capped hidey hole is warm this summer so she can stay the hell out of the news. We don’t care about your backwoods family. You were used by the GOP like a 2 dollar pro. So act like one. “You don’t pay a hoe for the act. You pay her to shut up and leave.”

  7. Codzilla says:

Jane: “Hoe” is a garden tool. “Ho” is the word you want.

  8. Bob says:

She lost the election. She’s no longer a threat. Why is she still being attacked? Let them all go away and be forgotten.

  9. Rebecca says:

As a democrat, I think people should leave her and especially her kids alone. She was doing a nice thing here trying to help out girlscouts. I also think the idea is that being a unwed teen mother is not a good idea, but it happens and they need support. Politics has become celebrity too, people make up things and post it as fact… the focus should be on how to fix the country and not on the politicians kids drama!

  10. GimmeABreak says:

Man, you guys are mean! I thought the left was supposed to be soooo caring of everyone’s plight in life. She had an illegitimate grandchild (not her fault) and she’s thrown to the wolves. Yet, you’ll want to support a bunch of people on govt. aid who almost ALL have one or more illegitimate children? How exactly does THAT work?

For the record, before you all jump on the hypocrite wagon, my parents were hard core Baptist who totally didn’t believe in pre-marital sex and I was havin’ all kinds of it!! So don’t throw that weak argument into the ring!

  11. nanster says:

I’m sure Bristol is especially fine now that she doesn’t have to pretend she is engaged anymore.

  12. Leandra says:

Oh so now everything is just great… Palin changes her story depending on the situation. Before it was that Bristol and Levi were going to step up, get married, go to school, raise the child together blah blah. Go away you lying airhead.

  13. daisy424 says:

    Agree Rebecca, Bob & Gimmeabreak.

She was helping out the local Girl Scouts and still gets slammed by hateful people, get over it.

This thread did it for me. Later folks, I’m blowing this pop stand.

  14. mE says:

Spot on Rebecca. All of these talk about how she isn’t thinking of Piper wanting to be a girl scout or how she is changing her story is a bunch of crap.

What do people expect her to say? Bristol is vomitting with rage every night because things didn’t work out? This seems like a common enough to say when asked how someone is doing.

It is a waste of time to trash people’s families when we have a whole country that needs a lot of work.

  15. ER says:

Leandra….the fact that Bristol and Levi WERE going to get married and now they’re not, doesn’t make SP a liar – it just means circumstances changed.

  16. dovesgate says:

It isnt possible that in the lives of two young kids, they could have planned to get married and go to school and yada yada, then life got in the way and they broke up?

Of course she isnt going to tell the media that her daughter is heartbroken. To do so would be completely assinine and a betrayal of her daughter’s trust. Why some of you think she should be honest and open about stuff that isnt any of our business is beyond me.

  17. Lem says:

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF DEGENERATE ROBS GIRL SCOUTS?

  18. aleach says:

i am a democrat with a fierce dis-liking of sarah palin but some of this uproar is just too much. sarah palin put herself out there to be ridiculed if you ask me, but her daughter did not. im sure bristol is having a hard enough time as it is, without being under the microscope of the media.
her mama, on the other hand, really does need to stfu about her poor daughters personal life. i would be mortified if she were my mother.

  19. WTH says:

I’m a Republican, yep, mock me, call me names, whatever you’d like. I really couldn’t care less. But what in the world are all you “people” doing critisizing anyone for helping an organization like the Girl Scouts, spending some time with her family, supporting her daughter while not breaking their bond of trust…! Really it’s disgusting! Anymore Republican/Democrat it’s really all the same! Politicians are what they are and will do what they want. But no one has the right to verbally tear apart a family who is doing all they can to support each other and their community.

  20. ER says:

Lem – there was a big story this month in our local news (Washington state) about someone passing off fake $20 dollar bills to girl scouts, to buy cookies. I agree, total degenerate to try to con a Girl Scout, or any kids organization for that matter!

  21. Lem says:

ER: that is so sad. what is the matter with people. what’s that saying? mean people suck

  22. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

WHY is she even in the news anymore? Because she wants to KEEP her face and name in the news. She’s become a publicity whore.

  23. DEO says:

I am starting to feel like Brisket is being held prisoner, and I fear for her…….
