Matthew Perry was my favorite ensemble member from Friends. I liked all of the characters except for Ross Gellar, but Perry is particularly gifted at physical comedy and feigning outrage. He’ll always be Chandler Bing (or Chanandler Bong) to me. Perry has a new show (or an old one, depending how you look at it). He’s starring in a remake of The Odd Couple with Thomas Lennon (of The State). Perry plays the messy Oscar, and Lennon plays the uptight Felix. Perry sat down with HuffPo for promotional duties, and he revealed his own tendencies as a proud slob. This was a 20 questions interview, so the answers are short:
His most obsessive habit: “I play video games for hours and hours and hours at a time.”
Does he take out his own garbage? “I pay somebody to do that for me.”
How long has he let sheets stay on his bed? “Three months.”
How long is the wait for the dishwasher? “The sink gets pretty full.”
Is he in a relationship? “No. I’m looking for Miss Right at the moment.”
His relationship deal breaker: “Someone who’s unhappy. Being unhappy, not liking the move Annie Hall and being unhappy with the movie Annie Hall”
How he flirts: “I act like an imbecile. I try to impress them and I just act like a … I try too hard at times I think.”
[From HuffPo]
Perry has an admirable, self-deprecating sense of humor. I wonder if he’s exaggerating about leaving sheets on his bed for three months. He did say this only happened until he hired a housekeeper, so it’s not like it’s an ongoing problem. But three months is pretty gross. I used to be obsessive about changing sheets too often but now follow the standard once a week recommendation. That’s normal, right?
I don’t know what to think of Perry’s Annie Hall qualification for dating women. The Woody Allen worship runs deep in Hollywood.

Good luck with finding a woman!
Lazy, obsessed with video games, full of problems and very little desire to change things for the better.
What a keeper!
Sounds just like my ex bf.
He does sound gross and lazy here, doesn’t he? I hope he’s exaggerating …
I have a feeling a lot of single guys barely change their sheets even that often. It’s not a priority in their lives. I think Mr. Perry is probably happy being single.
Yes but he’s in his forties. It gets less excusable when a guy is rich and older.
He just comes across as extremely lazy and disinterested in his own quality of life.
Sounds like a douche to me.
Before my husband met me he had 1 set of sheets. They were gross and he’d go a few months without washing them. Ugh. They’re drop cloths when we paint now.
And hasn’t Perry spoken about and hinted to his depression?
Yup, FLORC! Was just gonna say that he sounds depressed.
Paola,
I want to hit a like button for your comment. And he doesn’t strike me as the happy go lucky type himself…
He sounds just like my sister’s ex b-f, too, and funny I’ve always seen a resemblance, both in looks somewhat and the self-deprecating sense of humor. Plus my sister’s b-f is an alcoholic, and I think MP is too. On the flip side, he’s super smart, creative and sensitive and loyal, so maybe MP has those qualities, too. They say everyone has a twin.
This is kind of a wake-up call for me, because my boyfriend would have the EXACT same answers to questions #1, 3 and 4. He’s 30, so I assumed he was still growing up (so to speak)… but after 5 years, video games and a sink full of dishes are still daily aggravations for me. It’s definitely my fault the sheets haven’t been changed in a few months… but if it were up to him, they wouldn’t get changed for another year.
Basically, this interview is like looking into a crystal ball. He’s never going to change, is he?!
(P.S. He’s also smart, sensitive and loyal, like Esmom’s sister’s ex-bf. I guess he’s way more “typical” than I thought, huh? Yayyyy, my life is a cliche.)
Eh, sounds a lot like my fiance too, but we’ve found our housekeeping rhythm and it’s all good. If you don’t have a problem with it, you don’t have a problem with it. Don’t let people on the internet’s opinions about Matthew Perry influence you. But yeah, he’s probably not going to change.
didnt he date the woman from Masters of sex?
Yeah, they were together for years.
Lizzie Caplan? How long did they date? I know he & Lauren Graham used to date; she’s with Peter Krause now (sigh).
Yep, I’ve dated him. No thanks. Isolates himself for hours a day playing mindless games, but you’re supposed to be happ- eeeeee all the time. And that sheets thing is pretty gross.
I wanna see the receipts!
By “him” I meant another guy just like him. Lol
LMAO-I thought you meant MP!!
Sorry – that was a confusing expression my friends and I used to say already been there. I doubt he would be any more interested in dating me than I would be him. Lol
Meh, I don’ t really mind guys who play videogames even if they are 30 or 40! I am younger than that, but I am a videogamer myself, and I don’ t see it as the sign of a loser and immature like many people do! At the very best, it’ s something we could share. However, the rest is a big red alarm for sure!
There’s playing and then there’s addiction. His sounds like the latter. Usually the charm wears off when you notice he doesn’t notice you unless you pull the plug out, and sleep on the living room’s floor in yesterday’s clothes.
*sleeps
I know, hours and hours AND hours of video games, really? I mean a little bit is ok, but let’s get outside and go for a walk people!
@Paola
Bwaahhahahahahaha took the words right out of my mouth.
Ugh he sounds like a man child (oh wait…he IS) and worse, he seems proud of it.
Dude, set some short term and long term goals and get busy living!
Btw I am a FRIENDS super fan. Have had each dvd box set since release and…
BH bought me the entire box set for Christmas one year. He was working at Hastings. the discount they got was “ok”. Bought a lot of stuff from there for the two years he worked there! 😀
The sheets question was about when he was a young bachelor. He mentions his housekeeper, so I’m sure his home is perfectly clean.
He’s playing Oscar in The Odd Couple, the whole set up for this interview was ‘are you more like Oscar or Felix?’, hence all the questions about housekeeping.
Eeeeek… *looks at feet*…
I guess I’ll be changing my sheets today.
Lol. I think not changing your sheets very often isn’t all that uncommon actually especially when you’re first living on your own. I’m assuming MP’s 3-month record is a ways in the past.
Wish I could say I lived on my own, but my boyfriend’s a much bigger mess than I am, and I guess I’ve let it lower my hygiene standards.
I’m 27 though… and I still don’t feel like a real adult. There’s still hope for me, right?!
Not really hope for Matthew though. In fact… I’d be more willing to believe that he under-estimated, and that he’s talking about the sheets on his bed right now. Though I really don’t get why he’d pay someone to take out his trash, but not wash his linens or dishes.
The question actually asked was “When you were a bachelor with no money, before you could afford a housekeeper, how long would it be before you would change the sheets on your bed?”
So 20 or so years ago he left sheets on his bed for 3 months.
I had this roommate and he washed his towel once every 6 MONTHS.
He used to leave it in the bathroom next to mine and sometimes on top and its smell was so bad I had to move my towel to my room. I couldn’t live with the idea of his dirty face towel on top of mine.
The TOWEL?! Aghhhhhhhhhh. That is too much. That is supposed to help you stay clean, not smear your own filth back over you again and again.
I do wash my pilowcases about once a week, and we shower before bed… but the king-sized sheets are such a hassle (and my boyfriend is so little help) that it’s been at least a month or two. At least.
This interview is a wake-up call in more than one way.
My god the smell after he used it was revolting. I once lent him some sheets because he didn’t own any……. he used them for 4 months and then he gave them back to me perfectly folded but unwashed. Plus he slept on a mattrass on the floor. He didn’t have a proper bed.
Sorry but they ended up in the bin. I didn’t have the stomach to waste my time washing them.
Oh Paola, that’s awful. I would’ve thrown them away too. And I can imagine the mildewy towel smell in my head, and that’s enough to make me wince.
I actually had a similarly filthy/smelly roommate once, but he certainly didn’t have a dirty towel problem… because he NEVER showered. He actually had a very bad sense of smell (or maybe none at all?) and he was incredibly hairy and sweaty… so, you do the math. He claimed he didn’t “like water” so he avoided showering. He only showered or applied deodorant if one of us pulled him aside and told him how bad he smelled. That’s not even an exaggeration; every time he showered during those three months, it was because someone told him he needed to.
Why are people so gross??
He didn’t ‘like water’???
That would have been enough for me to kick him out.
Seriously.
GTFO!
I forgot to mention that we lived in Florida, during the summer, in a house with shoddy AC.
I would’ve kicked him out if I could!!
Brittney, sorry I have to ask- what about sex??
I HAVE to change mine then. I don’t live with my boyfriend, though. So sometimes it’s just once a week on Sundays I change them, sometimes more often😉
MAKE him help! Crack that whip!
I would say, “New rules, if you don’t help no cuddling, no sex and you sleep on the couch!” LOL.
I put a rule out there I will not allow to be broken. Sheets changed once a week with towels. And if sheets are fresh and crisp you must shower off the days grime before getting into bed.
This reminds me of that Jack Black story. Who was it… Some actress or comedian said she slept with JB. She took a shower and asked for a towel. There was one being used on the floor and that was THE towel for floor and body.
The excuse of not liking water can only apply to cats. Unless he was licking himself clean that’s just wtf-ery!
I use a towel for maybe 4 days max and then out comes a new one. I am changing my sheets more often which reminds me I need to change the sheets and wash the pillow cases. I don’t think Matthew Perry is that foul though. I might be a slob, though, to some people. I would definitely hire someone to clean for me if I had the money.
Hudson Girl … that’s a very valid question. Without going into too much detail, we never actually have bodily contact/fluids on the sheets themselves, and rarely on the bed at all. But that’s not an excuse not to wash them, because people sweat and secrete all sorts of things at night.
And MC2 … yes, wtf-ery indeed. We lived next to one of the best beaches in the country, but he only went in jeans and didn’t even take off his socks in the sand. Weird dude all around.
I change them about every 3 weeks, although I aspire to once a week.
If he’s that orange and not changing his sheets, then ‘ewww!’
Right? I’ve wondered what the sheets and towels must look like at his Friends cast-mate (and fellow spray tan enthusiast) Jennifer Aniston’s house.
Upon rewatching Friends (Comedy Central Netherlands is doing a rerun), I find Ross the funniest character and Chandler the least funny. His jokes have aged badly.
I started watching Friends for the first time about a month ago and I actually find Chandler and Ross hilarious, Rachel is the one I find annoying. But maybe is because I spend too much time here.
I have been watching the reruns too. I have a new appreciation for David Schwimmer’s physical comedy abilities. Matthew Perry was sweet, engaging and funny the first two seasons, but after that he seemed to have lost himself in his addictions. Bloated, slowed, and….yes, aged badly. Although he looks much better now, he seems to have gotten stuck in his emotional development. Ah well.
Ross was always my least favorite. Now when I catch reruns, I find myself laughing at his stuff a lot more, and a lot of my favorite moments from the show were Ross moments. PIVOT! still cracks me up just thinking about it.
I agree! I completely unappreciated Ross in the beginning. Now, watching reruns, he’s by far my favorite. His physical comedy is stellar.
YES
His physical comedy and his commitment to the absurd = amazing
Still holds up
Funny you bring this up. My teen daughter and her friends/schoolmates have all marathoned Friends on Netflix. The other day for some odd reason she made a bet with one of her friends that they would not fiind one person who would say Ross was their favorite Friends’ character. They asked everyone from friends to family. And in fact, no one, including myself, named Ross.
On the other hand, Schwimmer had a brief scene recently opposite Matt LeBlanc in Episodes and it reminded me of how great his comedic timing is. So yea, he probably is the most underappreciated Friend.
I think episode where Ross screams out “pivot” when trying to get the sofa up the stars is hilarious.
I think David Schwimmer can act, but in terms of looks I think his face can be slightly annoying to look at. This worked for the character of Ross, but I’ve always wondered if he could have been cast with his looks if he was a woman. Aniston gets critiqued a lot for her looks, but I feel she is much more conventionally attractive than he is and she was believable as someone like Rachel who could get a lot of guys.
His scene on Episodes was great! I didn’t know he was coming on so it was a surprise, and it was really funny. I like Episodes a lot.
lucy2 – I LOVE Episodes.
“Reason for entering the United States?”
“*Scowl* Matt LeBlanc”
I agree. For years, I swore I’d never watch Friends again then recently ended up watching the entire series while nursing my daughter. For me, Phoebe is and always was the worst and the least funny character. I always thought Ross was a wimpy loser and at times annoying but that’s what made him so funny. Chandler was equally funny in a different way. Monica’s obsessiveness was quite hilarious at times and Rachel was okay. My opinions didn’t really change, although upon rewatching I noticed that Jennifer Aniston’s acting was pretty terrible in the first few episodes but then she hit her stride shortly after that.
Most dirty sheets get up of their own volition right around the three month mark and march themselves into the washer. (My way of calling BS on that part of the story.)
Lol. Yep, when my jeans can stand on their own it’s time for a wash. I don’t have the guts to try it with sheets, so I’ll have to take your word for it. 😉
I hope he was being sarcastic and self deprecating in this interview because if he is telling the truth…. What kind of Miss Right is an immature, slob, video game obsessed guy who is so incapable of dealing with grown up responsibilities going to find?
I mean, I can see why some guys by themselves would not remember to change sheets like clockwork weekly, but months?? Ugh. And dishes? What is he so busy doing ALL DAY that he can’t take 15 minutes to do the dishes of one person? I always think that this idea of the lovable, sloppy, slightly drunk slob who has a heart of gold and quirky humor gets a huge pass in movies and shows. (Whether male or female characters) Living with one IRL…. Not so much fun.
I’d still get into those dirty bed sheets.
Just sayin’.
Go for it girl.
You won’t find me in the way of your chance.
Hopefully you’ll be able to find your way out! Haha
Have you young people totally lost the ability to detect when a guy is being flippant and sarcastic for effect? Toughen up people.
Matthew Perry’s house……
http://photos.toofab.com/galleries/matthew_perrys_amazing_hollywood_home#tab=most_recent&id=524663
I know Matthew’s normal mode is sarcastic and exaggerating, and I still think there’s a LOT of truth in this article. Or he’s just trying really hard to sell his character on the show.
But to answer your question in a real way… I don’t think young people have lost the ability to detect sarcasm; if anything, sarcasm seems to be the default tone for my generation (the oft-maligned millennials). The problem is TYPED sarcasm… or really, any tone at all. Since AOL instant messenger and all the way to social media, my peer group has communicated with words on a screen more than real-life interactions, and it’s impossible to convey tone that way. The Internet wasn’t even a thing when I was in grade school, but by middle school, there were at least a dozen major school-wide drama moments because someone misunderstood something written in an instant message or text. Or because they said something over the Internet that they NEVER would’ve said in person.
The next generation will be even worse, and that’s scary, because empathy develops by learning and adapting to other people’s facial expressions and vocal inflections.
Based solely on those photos of his house, I’d say his sheets are being changed every other day.
Cool house!
I have always read that you should have 3 good sets of sheets: 1 in the washer, 1 in the linen closet and 1 on the bed.
I am a bit obsessive with changing my sheets-I would rather have a sink full of dirty dishes than dirty sheets, but that is just me. There is nothing better than getting into a freshly changed bed!
But, in this case, I would not mind making the already dirty sheets dirtier with Mr. Perry. 🙂
Oh yyyyaaaaaaaassssss, me too!
I actually liked MP’s last show, where he was a recent widower attempting to handle his grief. As crazy as that sounds, he was really good at handling the sadness and balancing the humor in the show. The ensemble of that show was also very sweet and funny.
This ‘Odd Couple’? I watched the first 2 episodes and as much as it pains me to say because I love me some Thomas Lennon, was a walking shit storm. Tony Randall and Jack Klugman should be rolling in their graves. And then rise up to punch MP in the balls for producing this.
I agree with everything you said.
Tom Lennon was amazing in Reno 911 and he was Geoff the skeleton on Craig Ferguson, so I have to love him… and I still have a fondness for Chanandler Bong myself. Plus, I loved Mr. Sunshine and Go On (the show you’re talking about) and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, even though critics hated them and they got cancelled. Matthew was likable and he carried all of those shows.
The Odd Couple is definitely a travesty. It’s virtually impossible to make an original, watchable multi-cam sitcom these days… laugh tracks make me scream. But I thought these two actors surely wouldn’t pick a project that didn’t have something new to offer (or that wasn’t steeped in homophobia and misogyny). NOPE. So disappointed.
I guess he just stopped caring about finding good material, and went back to the only format that actually got him good ratings and a steady income.
I can’t even bring myself to watch it. I like Matthew and Tom so much, this seems like such a massive step down for both. I was really starting to like Go On, it was funny, had a great ensemble, and had some heart to it as well.
Are you talking about Tom being Geoff as a guest spot? Because the full time guy is named Josh something. I miss that show soooo much!
lucy2 … whoops, you’re right. He only did a handful of episodes, when Josh was away. I miss that show too!
I loooove Reno 911.
Did you see the @Midnight episode where they had the Reno cast members on there? They were brilliant! I miss the show so much!
I don’t really buy it.He is rich enough to pay a housekeeper to change his sheets and sort out his dishes, .
He’s probably talking about when he was younger. A lot of guys are like that when they just move out from home.
Not changing bed sheets for three months isn’t messy, it’s filthy!
Right? Makes me itchy thinking about it..I do admit, however, to having a sink full of dishes and some serious dust..I’m waiting for my ‘cleaning mood’..
Awful. I can be untidy but I’m very hygienic! Better that than the other way round.
MP was always my favorite on Friends!!! But why, oh, why, would anyone remake The Odd Couple!
That show was so good and there is no way that this show will be as good or better…If I were a rich actor, I wouldn’t do a show that I knew was going to be crap. It’s not like he needs to make money. I would wait for something that I thought was great and original, and if that didn’t happen, I would take my milliions of dollars and travel or just enjoy life!!!
I’ve watched one episode of it so far. MP was okay; it was good to see him doing something again. I think his character could grow on me over time (maybe not to Chandler level, but still…). But the guy playing Felix? He ruins the entire program. He’s trying far too hard and is just a caricature. He’s not relateable at all.
I have a particular friend that I teasingly call “Monica” because she’s such a nut about things being orderly and clean, but she still has personality and is fun. That’s how Felix should be portrayed. There’s no warmth and just nothing likeable about the way he portrays the character. And that’ s a shame.
I don’t think that’s so bad if it’s true. Some people just aren’t good at housekeeping and enjoy time by themselves. I wouldn’t judge anyone on those things alone. Perhaps they’re awesome in a million other ways. 🙂
I might be super ocd about this, but this is why he’s so gross.
Sheets collect all your dead skin and sweat during the night. Hair too. The itching, movement, friction. That all sheds skin in such volume you feel the grit over time. And intimacy? Yea, even worse.
It’s once or twice a week standard for sheets in laundry. And they always get changed before we leave for a vacation. towels too. Anything with dead skin. Just yuck.
YES to everything you said florc, in my eyes you aren’t ocd at all!
I wash my sheets/towels every 5 days to a week max, and I never get in bed “dirty”, always take a bath or shower before going to sleep.
Bed bugs, dust mites etc…breed in dirty sheets.
I love the feel and smell of clean sheets and I sleep better getting into a fresh bed and being clean myself….this thread is enlightening to me lol, never knew the variations of sheet washing!!
Matthew Perry seems kind of unstable to me and rather immature. I hope his new tv show works out because he’s had a pretty bad streak with his projects getting cancelled.
My little bing-a-ling……Janice.
He and Ross were my favorite.
Most single men rarely wash their sheets–whenever I started dating a new guy, they always said “I never thought about it!”
I wash my sheets once a month now, maybe every 3 weeks during the summer. Is that too little? I shower before bed every night. I’d probably wash them more but my boyfriend hates putting the fitted sheet back on the bed before bed. LOL
I’m on a once-a-month schedule with sheets. I would love to do it every 2 weeks but UGH. Laundry. *shakes head*
I change my sheets a lot. I love the feeling of diving into a bed with freshly laundered sheets.
Exactly. I sleep so much better when the bedding is clean and fluffy.
I also always shower before bed, no matter what. I can’t sleep if I’m not clean.
I do too. A shower and fresh sheets, heaven.
I read 1/3 of people wash their sheets anywhere from once a month to every 4 months, so I’ m not sure there is such a thing as normal. What happens if you don’t follow the “standard recommandation” anyway… Does the sheet police come and get you?
For me it depends what time of year it is, I just change them when they start feeling unclean. I’d say every 2-4 weeks, but I wrap a towel around my pillow and change that every few days, and always wear clean PJ’s and socks to bed (bed-socks must never touch the floor). And no pets! I could never share a bed with pets, now that’s pretty gross and dirty.
What IS the standard recommendation? I think Oprah told us, but I forgot.
Why no pets?
My youngest cat always sleeps in bed with me and that little dude is ALWAYS cleaning himself.
He’s probably cleaner than myself or my boyfriend.
Uh, well.. Worms. Toxoplasmosis. Bacteria. I’ve only had outdoor-cats so that definitely factors in, they’d hunt all kinds of prey and go god knows where, and bring me the body parts to prove it. And you know how cats love trying to rub their butts in your face and sitting on your pillow (at least mine did!). Dogs are amazing, but kind of dirty creatures, especially when you have a large, long-coated one that shreds like crazy and isn’t easy to bathe very often in the winter.
I’m 42, married, and have 2 kids, and we never wash our sheets, or those of our children. Seriously, once every three months sounds about right.
(runs off to hide)
Don’t hide – or maybe I’ll have to come with you! I’m married with only one child and who in the heck has time for washing sheets every week! I’ll throw in the pillowcases more often but it’s usually at least a few months. Sure, I’d love to have the time to wash them more often but I simply don’t and prioritize other things – like making sure we have clean clothes out in public.
me too, just like sheet and why not. I think I wash every 3-4 months but pillow cases every week. I’m running off to hide too! LOL
Good grief, I miss Reno 911. Thomas Lennon, will always be Lt. Dangle to me.
The sheet thing. I change mine every 5 days. I like the feel of crispy clean sheets. I always shower nightly before I get into bed. And I still change them every 5 days.
And I own 10 different sets of sheets too. I might be a little OCD about it changing them out.
I have the new Odd Couple show set to record weekly. It is still early to for me to judge it. But I agree the “Go On” show was a odd little funny show. That actually worked for me. I liked that it has a nice set of funny characters. Who were all a little crazy but always funny.
I am so not into the Woody Allen worship. Super gross – even more than the stanky bed sheets.
When I was a teenager I was responsible for my own sheets. I never knew you were supposed to wash them once a week. Honestly, I probably went an embarrassingly long time without washing them.
Now I have three kids, two adults and a cat in my bed at night. They get washed a LOT.
WTF? I wash mine every few days. Dirty sheets is like wearing dirty underwear. Effing gross.
WTF? I wash mine every few days. Dirty sheets is like wearing dirty underwear. Effing gross.
I can’t wash my sheets every week. Too lazy and it costs me money every time I do! Plus I wash them separate from my clothes. I live in an NYC apartment and the washers/dryers are coin operated and only take quarters, which is pretty typical. It’s 2 dollars for a load in the washer and 25 cents for every 15 or 10 minutes depending on the dryer. If I wash clothes and sheets on the same day, that’s 4 dollars in quarters right there! So it’s more of an every other week, 2-3 week thing.
I have no problems with blowing off steam and playing video games. I do have a problem when it comes to the point that it is overtaking your life and neglecting your children and wife. My husband has a serious WoW problem. He stopped playing for awhile and then jumped back in. He can literally spend 15-16 hours playing. And I am the one who is supposed to do all the household work. I’ve really reached the end of my rope. I love him but I’m not letting myself or the kids live like this anymore. He’s almost 36. He refuses to admit it’s a problem and says it is his way of escaping.
My boyfriend and I used to play WOW all the time with a bunch of real life friends. I miss it sometimes, but it is a very addictive and time consuming game. My boyfriend plays lord of the rings online now and only for 2-3 hours a day, if that depending how busy he is (he is a math prof). We don’t have kids though, so even if I got back into playing it or he did, we don’t have any responsibilities other than our pets.
I wish you good luck, but it sounds like your husband may be unhappy in general and it is his way to escape reality.
Thank you. It’s very true that he struggles with depression. I’ve tried to get him to see someone but he refuses. He has to want the help himself. He has about 9 different characters. I wouldn’t mind at all if he could limit what he played and still accomplish things. And it’s much harder when you throw a family into the mix.
I liked MP on Friends and thought he was great in The Good Wife – wish they would bring him back. I keep hoping one of his shows will click but don’t think this is the one.
I think he had a permanent offer after appearing on there, and he chose that comedy type series he did where he was a widower. He should have taken the offer from The Good Wife. He’s great in drama.
Ok I just want to clarify, because apparently no one here reads full articles. The sheets question was phrased as “When you were a bachelor with no money, before you could afford a housekeeper, how long would it be before you would change the sheets on your bed?”
So he was answering about at least 20 years ago, when he was in his early 20’s and struggling in Hollywood.
That’s MISS Chanandler Bong
That’s MS. Chanandler Bong. 🙂
Annie Hall is an amazing movie. Learn to separate a person from their art, people. I love Woody Allen’s movies and yet I know that I would not like to be friends with him.
