Tom Hiddleston has started filming ‘The Night Manager’ at the Matterhorn

wenn22160805

This is barely a story, but since it involves our Dragonfly Overlord, I expect this will probably be the most popular post of the day (don’t disappoint me). Tom Hiddleston has begun filming the AMC/BBC miniseries adaptation of John le Carré’s The Night Manager. He’s filming in view of the Matterhorn, the mountain that straddles the Swiss-Italian border. Tommy has posted a photo of the famed Matterhorn on his Twitter, as did Hugh Laurie.

I guess Tom and Hugh Laurie and the rest of the cast only recently arrived at the Swiss Alps a few days ago. I have no idea how long the production will be, but considering it’s supposed to be a six-part miniseries and it’s being produced by the BBC, I would expect they’re on a fast schedule and hopefully this will be wrapped up in three months, maximum. Is that a pipe dream? Eh.

The Night Manager also added some newish people to the cast! The series will also feature Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander and Elizabeth Debecki (I know her from Baz’s version of The Great Gatsby and I wasn’t very impressed).

I’m including some new Twitter photos below, like Tommy’s tweet and producer Rob Bullock’s shot of Tommy filming in the snow. I wonder if Tom has someone around to keep him warm at night. Calling all dragonflies: head to the Matterhorn to warm up Lord Dragonfly.

So jealous of his view! I hope this is good. It looks good.

  2. Sixer says:

Woo! Tom Hollander. I love him. He just did a great turn as Dylan Thomas.

I’m going to like this show, I just know it.

    • Lilacflowers says:

My BF is following BBC’s Instagram and giving me updates on pictures of production slates. This is his favorite LeCarre and he loves Hollander and Laurie. This should be fantastic when it finally airs. In the meantime, when does Peaky Blinders return? I hooked a friend on it and we’re planning on a drunken binge watching when the new season is available to us.

      • icerose says:

I have seen no dates for Peaky as yet but Aiden Turner has been offered a retainer contract equal to Benny’s Sherlock retainer as it is envisaged Poldark will run for several series and may well be the next Dowtown Abbey. He is also now apparetly in demand for film roles as well.

    • Sixer says:

For Hollander, your BF should watch the sitcom Rev, if he hasn’t already. Plus look out the Dylan Thomas film he did for the BBC last year.

No idea on Peaky Blinders. Not seen any news but I might go and watch S1 and 2 again!

We’re suffocating a bit with period drama at the moment though. Some good stuff (in particular Banished and Indian Summers) but I wish they’d spread this stuff out. Instead, we get a full season of costume followed by a full season of contemporary.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Thanks, I’ll suggest those to him.

We’re starving for something to watch right now but Wolf Hall starts here in a few weeks and then Game of Thrones.

      • Sixer says:

Oh! The Wipers Times (WWI) has just appeared on Netflix. You should watch that. It’s fabulous. Written by Ian Hislop of Private Eye fame.

      • Lilacflowers says:

        Will check that out. Thanks.

      • Amelia says:

Sixer, have you seen any Poldark at all? I only feel like committing to one period drama at a time, and I’m trying to decide between Russell Tovey and Aiden Turner.
Also, loved your post/s on the Angie thread! Thought I’d mention it here so it doesn’t get completely buried ☺️

      • Sixer says:

        @ Amelia

It depends what you want, really. Banished is the “better” show from a writing point of view (plus, I love Julian Rhind-Tutt) – it’s by Jimmy McGovern. But both are beautifully shot and Aiden Turner is certainly eye candy! I’m watching both as Mr Sixer is a sucker for period drama. It’s his fault I have to watch Downton Awful Abbey.

        Thanks, matey.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Good suggestions! Thanks! I especially look forward to Dylan Thomas!

      • MtnRunner says:

I love eavesdropping on these convos… I’ve got Wolf Hall earmarked for Apr 5. Tried Peaky Blinders but wasn’t sucked in right away. Is it a slow burn? I’ve also started Luther. Not far in to it yet.

Can I say how much I enjoyed Armitage’s The Crucible on Digital Theatre? And the kids loved Will Shake’s Henry V on DT Plus.

      • icerose says:

Indian Summer is very much a simpler version of the Jewel in the Crown series which was one of my all time favourite BBC series,Enjoying it but it pales in comparison.
Banished is okay so far and and the overall story line is more unique. My daughter has me watching Poldark which is more of the a typical period piece with touches of Bronte.
@MtnRunner The Crucible was excellent and I found seeing the play in total made much more sense of the motivation behind the storyline as compared to the film. Armitage is up for an Olivier along with McAvoy for the Ruling Class and Strong for A view from the Bridge which has transferred to a west end theatre .I had tickets for the Ruling Class but could not go so my daughter went instead and said McAvoy was brilliant.

      • icerose says:

Poldark is being predicted as the next Downtown Abbey and Aiden has been offered a retainer equal to he who shall not be named on a Tom thread.I think his star is rising rapidly.
I am more of Tovey fan because underneath that laddish quality he is an excellant actor

      • MtnRunner says:

Icerose, A Room With A View will be shown here in June, which I plan to see. I hope we’ll both get a chance to see The Mac on NT Live sometime in the next year.

      • Sixer says:

        Icerose

Are you watching Critical, the Lennie James vehicle on Sky 1? I’m watching but sulking: I wait a gazillion years for lovely, knock-kneed Lennie to get a TV lead, and when he does, it’s a sodding medical drama. I hate medical dramas. At least it’s Jed Mercurio of Line of Duty, I guess.

I think that’s as close to fangirling as I get, watching a medical drama for an actor!

      • icerose says:

Sixer -I do not have Sky and am strictly a free view terrestrial watcher .I just wait patiently for these shows to come up on my love films account and they usually do at some point but will look out for it.I remember him from Line of Duty.
I am okay with medical dramas because i have a health background but yo do tend to get critical when they take shrt cuts with tratments and protocols. The worst ever being Frankie with Eve Myles

      • 'P'enny says:

Banished is brilliant and well worth watching, Poldark is a bit ‘bleh’, but great eye-candy and landscapes.

Julian Rhind Tutt and Tovey is fantastic in Banished, and I am loving in the background is Prince Hal’s friend from Hollow Crown, but his name escapes. I hope his role expands.

in the meantime, can’t believe I missed a Tommy thread! I just saw another Bendy & Sophie yawnfest and turned off the site.

      • icerose says:

Penny-it is David Dawson-you can also see him in Ripper Street. He is one of my favourite lesser known actors along with John Heffernan.
He is also in Peaky Blinders ,Dancing on the Edge and I loved him in Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
He was also at RADA when Tom was there

      • 'P'enny says:

there is something eye catching about him – he’s got my eye

    • Maria A. says:

Yay Hollander! More reasons to look forward to seeing this.

  3. Lilacflowers says:

    Still mine!

Get wait for this series. And it is a whole year away!

  4. Lilacflowers says:

Laurie, Hollander, and Hiddleston: it’s a Dragon School convention.

  5. j.eyre says:

I have 1,004 things to do today – Tommyanna being at the top of the list – but because you asked so nicely, I will take a moment to lend my “oo-rah” to this post’s popularity for the day.

Okay, well the asking nicely and for the mental image of a chilly Tommyanna needing to be warmed by my thighs… I mean the fire.

    • Sixer says:

Tommy and Miss Eyre, sitting in a… chair lift. K.I.S.S.L.M.N.O – I can’t think of an alphabet rhyme for lift.

    • j.eyre says:

Let me see K.I.S.S.L.M.N.O… no, I think you’ve done it correctly.

    • Sixer says:

Wind is whistly on those chair lifts, you know. Mind your skirts.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Mind chair lifts in general. They’ve been tossing people to the ground, putting themselves in reverse, and all sorts of bizarre antics here.

      • icerose says:

Well even chairlifts are susceptible to Tom’s charms and have been thrown into a Tizz by his sunny presence

    • MtnRunner says:

Chair lifts are too dangerous. I’ve been camped at the mountain waiting for Tom to arrive. Rest assured, he stayed plenty warm as we ran up that pile of rocks, dug out a snow cave and melted everything within a three meter radius keeping things warm in there. Long bath and Jameson’s by the fire (with inspiration from Jeds and Roper) took the post-workout chills away in no time. It was a grand time, ladies.

      • icerose says:

I love the image of Tom naked in a bath in a snow cave sipping Jameson.Pictures will be very much appreciated.

      • MtnRunner says:

Yes, our Tommy is not shy when it comes to nudity. I shall telepathicly send images to you now…

  6. Leah says:

I am so thirsty that a picture of a mountain and of Tom and co. taken from several yards away make me so pleased.

    • icerose says:

Tom is so elusive these days that any picture sends my heart soaring.Looking forward to naked pics by the pool in the Caribbean but we may have to make do with Tom in chef’s gear with one of those funny hats

  7. ncboudicca says:

I wonder how many women I’ll have to push off cliffs and into crevasses to get to him?

  8. More Hiddles! Happy dance! I like him, he seems a genuinely nice human being. Plus, he’s really good looking.

  9. seesittellsit says:

Ahhhhhhhhhhh . . . sighs with satisfaction . . . . start the a.m. with Hiddles AND Hollander (how great was he in Desperate Romantics and In The Loop?) AND Laurie . . . . no Bendy no Sophie. Could be the start of a REALLLY fine day . . . can’t wait for TNM to arrive (and Crimson Peak and High Rise and I Saw the Light. . . ). Could only be improved with a bit on A-Turns . . .

    • Lilacflowers says:

Why? Why? Why did you bring them here? Banish all thoughts of otters and octopi!

    • Allegra says:

Speaking of Crimson Peak here is the release dates and cities:
      imdb.com/title/tt2554274/releaseinfo

    • TotallyBiased says:

SOMEONE spoke too soon. Mrs BC is pontificating about ‘when it’s right.’ I need copious Fizzy Hiddles–I refuse to even look at Comet Sophies, they smell funny.

      • MtnRunner says:

TB, that’s what I thought. Tom’s numbers will pale in comparison to the SH post. Unfortunately, I’m part of the problem of giving that odious couple too many clicks. Trying to curb that.

When Tom does emerge and do a serious, full-length print interview, I’m gonna mark the occasion by changing my moniker. Same avatar though, so it’ll be obvious it’s still me.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Because they were invoked. And they’re polluting this lovely thread when they should stay on their own

      • icerose says:

Let Benny bore with his pontificating all he likes just not on Tom’s thread.

  10. EN says:

Tommy is a busy bee lately. Good for him. And for us.

    • MtnRunner says:

There should be a torrent of promos this summer…Avengers and Cannes in May, SDCC in July…the anticipation is exciting, no?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Has High-Rise been announced for Cannes?

      • lunchcoma says:

No, not yet, Lilacflowers. Wheatley’s taken a movie to Cannes before, though, so it seems like a reasonable place for it to premiere.

      • MtnRunner says:

Operative words “should be”. The longer we wait for a trailer, the more convinced I am that it’s gonna make an appearance at Cannes. Perhaps it’s wishful thinking, but I’ll remain firmly fixed in my fantasy.

      • icerose says:

It is on the list for films likely to be at Cannes but nothing definite yet but Whatley is a Cannes favourite so I am pretty hopeful

  11. Bea says:

He has such a masculine Scottish face when he has a bit of facial hair. Somewhere down the line a grandma must have had a tumble with a scotsman. Handsome man.

  12. Lilacflowers says:

The Guardian posted a long excerpt of his voice recording of High-Rise yesterday

    • MtnRunner says:

I’m actually excited to listen to HR, more than I was to read it. I’m getting the free trial membership with Audible on Thursday so I can start.

    • TotallyBiased says:

The best thing about that 10 minute or so excerpt the Guardian posted? That they include an easy download button! Wish more would do that.
Plus–his voice when he reads the most incredible things. Soothing calm AND burningly sexy should be mutually exclusive!

      • MtnRunner says:

TB, 10 min is not enough Tom for me. I need the whole thing downloaded. I loved his reading of The Red Necklace. Seriously, I could listen to any book he reads — he does voices so well.

      • icerose says:

I want the the complete version as well so I must get linked in

      • jammypants says:

        two more days!

  13. jammypants says:

He’s like a unicorn. A rare sighting does not go unnoticed.

  14. TotallyBiased says:

This would have been a GREAT post for Friday! They’ve already left Zermatt, and been spotted in Heathrow. If we trust the tweet by an ecstatic journo, that is, nearly overcome by having Olivia Colman and our man Hiddleston in front of her and Hugh Laurie behind her in the passport queue. (Then again, who wouldn’t be. )

I just wish BBCOne’s idea of ‘behind the scenes’ Instagram pics wasn’t limited to clapper shots–and ones we’ve already seen, at that! Guess the Instagram of Hugh in Zermatt with crew must have been totally unofficial–a VERY lucky fan.

    • Lilacflowers says:

I think they may have just gone back for the weekend. That sighting was on Friday. The BBC Instagram seems to be posting things several days late too. So, they may be in London, back in Zermat, or on to a new location

    • MtnRunner says:

It seems that they’re delaying the shots that they post a bit too, dontcha think? I’m glad that producer is posting at least.

After reading it, I wouldn’t be surprised if they barely reference Canada since it really doesn’t move the story along. I just hope they make the most of the Pine and Sophie affair.

      • Darya née Dara says:

It would be smart to delay any updates, by a few days, would keep any disruptions to a minimum if we’re all looking in the wrong direction.

I do hope they devote loads of time to Sophie and Pine. For selfish reasons I would like screen time for the Cornwall and Canada chapters (sailing, cooking, and skinny dipping- oh my), but they may get sacrificed to fit everything in.

      • tigerlily says:

Finally a Hiddles post. This would have been great on Friday but am grateful for it today. Have they cast the part of Sophie yet?

      • icerose says:

from my perspective Canada would be great and in many ways has far more character than Switzerlandm
I cannot remember a scene however where Roper and Pine are crossing a mountain together so it is it confusing .

      • Darya née Dara says:

@tigerlily, no official announcement, but actress Aure Atika instagrammed a photo from the read-through. She’s perfect for Sophie and I’ll be mighty peeved if it turns out my assumption is incorrect.

      • MtnRunner says:

There’s really no reason to shoot much in CH since most of the story takes place inside the hotel. They can shoot those scenes in the UK, it seems.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Icerose, Pine and Roper only interact in the hotel while in Switzerland but Pine and Burr have several meetings while in Switzerland and at one point, they do go walking.

  15. annyamary says:

    oh you remember him?
joke…joke…he has been very quiet recently but I adore that he is super busy working rather than doing interviews every other day. Gets me all the more excited for next year!!!

    • Lilacflowers says:

He has four films coming out this year.

      • lunchcoma says:

Yes, I’m sure we’ll be seeing plenty of him later this year. However busy he is, he’s always been a good sport about promoting his films, so I’m sure we’ll see some interviews for the premiere of Crimson Peak and some festival appearances supporting I Saw the Light and High Rise.

    • jammypants says:

If rumors are true we might get a glimpse of Loki to hold us over come April/May.

      • MtnRunner says:

Yep, they’re setting the stage for the Thor 3.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Branagh is dropping very loud hints that he wants to direct Thor 3 because he loved working with his “boys”

      • MtnRunner says:

I’m not a huge Thor fan so I don’t care much who gets it. I am happy to hear that the Russo Bros will be at the helm for the next two Avengers films. They did a great job with Winter Soldier.

      • icerose says:

Branagh and Scorcese are teaming up on a film version of Branagh’s acclaimed production that formed part of the 2013 Manchester International Festival.

“We will remount the production and all things being well Mr Scorcese will direct a film version of that production,” Branagh said on BBC Radio’s Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review.
So no Tom involved me thinks

      • 'P'enny says:

        @lilacflowers

Kenneth B is very much dropping huge hints, so big why doesn’t he just phone Kevin and say I want this gig back!

Anyway, I am gutted about Joss Whedon dropping out of Avengers 3&4, if Loki is coming back to Avengers for a more pronounced role, I was really looking forward to Whedon’s one liners for Loki. No one else has come close.
Ken brings out the Loki angst, but Whedon’s influence for Loki is all over Dark World they needed him there, and they will need Joss again.

      • smyling says:

@penny, Whedon may only be dropping out of directing Avengers. He could still be writing the script. From what I understand, he hurt he knee while filming the second Avengers, and he probably needs to give it the rest he couldn’t during filming.

      • MtnRunner says:

That’s what I was thinking smyling… have Jos write it and Russo Bros direct.

  16. browniecakes says:

    Straddles.

    • MtnRunner says:

You and I are cut from the same cloth, brownie. I thought the same thing. God bless Kaiser.

      • icerose says:

we have naked Tom x 2 possibly x 3 ,Tom on the mountains,Tom in chefs gear ,Tom sunning himself by the pool,Tom on a motorbike,Tom on skis,Tom having sex with 6 different women,Tom training which involves running and Tom running like a gazelle is a vision in itself,Tom in period and modern day wear ,Tom in the jungle and glimpses of Loki.It will be a glorious Tom feast with something for everybody

      • MtnRunner says:

Icerose! A Tommy thread isn’t complete until you join the par-tay! I like the way you think, lady. It is a great year for Dragonflies. So.Much.Tom.

      • 'P'enny says:

        @icerose

I love your description, it reminds me of a modelling shoot for Look magazine

  17. Norman Bates' Mother says:

Hugh Laurie, Olivia Coleman, Tom Hiddleston and Tom Hollander in one mini-series? Added to must-watch list…

    • Darya says:

@NB Mother – I’m a little late to echo your thoughts, but I’m in complete agreement. This project kept getting better and better with each announcement.

  18. koko says:

If it hadn’t been such a long, snowy winter here I would be enjoying these photo’s much more but alas I will block out visions of beautiful white topped mountains and mounds of white sparkly fluff and concentrate on him.
And if he’s wise, he’s taken along an electric blanket to keep him warm.

  19. TotallyBiased says:

Bustle is seriously starting to annoy me. The articles pumped out by the Hiddlestoned fangirls on staff (seriously, do they get paid for this?) are occasionally amusing—but every now and then they seem to think it’s time for something more substantial, so one of the guys will write it.
And I can’t figure out if they really think we’re all idiots, all dreamy-eyed victims of early onset puberty, or what.
The latest is a collection of movies that Tom and The Other Guy need to remake. Because oooo is that clickbait, and ‘they haven’t been in a movie together since Warhorse!’ (The ONLY movie they’ve made together, but hey.)
So this guy a) seems to think he invented the portmanteau term ‘Hiddlebatch’ and wonders if it will catch on
    and
    b) has decided that playing a gay character is clear proof an actor really wants to lark about in frocks, and so the boys REALLY need to remake Some Like It Hot. One does almost get the impression from this fellow’s writing that the Marilyn Monroe character would be a bit superfluous in his opinion.
    //venting

It’s just that Tom is out there building up a rather substantial body of work (Pirate Fairy and Muppets notwithstanding) and their best suggestion is a bunch of remakes? With the Other Guy?
    Sigh.

    • Lilacflowers says:

To me, Bustle seems like an overgrown Tumblr page and I try to avoid it. Facts don’t seem to be important and the incessant shoving of the two of them together just makes me itchy. I suspect that at some point, they will share a scene or two in the MCU because Loki beats up Strange in the comics, but other than that, I don’t need to see them work together any time soon. I don’t need movie remakes – Some Like it Hot is one of my all-time favorites and it does NOT need to be remade with anybody. As you said, Tom is building up a rather nice, substantial, and most importantly varied, body of work and he seems to be making excellent choices. I want to see that continue and yes, there are other people I would love to see him work with, like Pacino, Helena Bonham Carter, Ewan McGregor, Helen Mirren – because they seem to have a good rapport – Wes Anderson, the Coen Brothers. I want to see him do a comedy with Octavia Spencer just for the heck of it. And I liked the Muppet movie; it was fun and a break from all the serious drama.

    • icerose says:

Bustle’s choices of films were awful. But i have no need to see the otter and the gazelle in a film together.
I love his eclectic choices in his work because you never quite know what is coming next.Hank Williams just came right out of nothing and when i first read on Crowel’s face book page they he had been meeting with Tom and the producers I thought it was pie in the sky stuff and will probably never happen
I do feel that productions he is in are are picking up good casts some of whom have Tom’s involvement was part of it

    • jammypants says:

How do they come up with material every week astounds me. I walk away less enlightened every time. Now I don’t even bother.

  20. Josa says:

A Tom post, I didn’t notice until now, didn’t think he has any news recently. But The Night Manager starts filming, yay! CANNOT WAIT to see it on TV next year.

    • jammypants says:

or hopefully end of this year

      • Josa says:

End of this year will be nice. But we will have his other 3 movies at that time. So 2016 for Night Manager will be perfect time.

      • Lilacflowers says:

At the moment, he doesn’t have anything else releasing in 2016 so a six week television series will be really helpful. Summer and fall of 2016 will be a bit bleak unless he’s filming something this fall for a late release next year. He hasn’t announced anything beyond Skull Island, which films this summer, but he told an interviewer on the BAFTA red carpet that he is busy through the end of this year.

    • MtnRunner says:

I read it would be March 2016 on AMC. Not sure if the BBC will be broadcasting it on an earlier date.

      • MtnRunner says:

Of course, now I can’t find where I read that… I may be losing my marbles, but a remember seeing March 2016 and thinking how nice it would be to have it just a few months after ISTL.

IMDB just says 2016, but seems that with filming happening now, Spring 2016 would make sense, dontcha think?

      • Darya née Dara says:

I’m voting Spring 2016, if only because I don’t think I could survive much longer than that. Depending on rest of AMC line-up, maybe they’ll do a ‘special event’ and schedule for a ratings sweep month – February or May if memory serves.

      • Lilacflowers says:

When it was announced that AMC was definitely funding, it was also announced that it would air March 2016. It would make the most sense if the BBC aired at the same time because, given that AMC does air commercials, they definitely would not want to lose any revenue on either side of the Atlantic to piracy.

  21. MtnRunner says:

I just got my free copy of Tom reading High Rise with my Audible trial subscription: http://www.audible.com/HighRise

Hoping this gets me jazzed for the movie.

    • Darya née Dara says:

@mtn – do you know how it works if you cancel after the free trial? Will the audio file still be on your computer/phone? I would like nothing more than 6+hours of Tom’s voice, but not enough to keep paying the monthly fee.

      • MtnRunner says:

Darya, I wondered the same thing. I think you’ll get to keep them since you get a “free” book each month with the membership. So if HR is your free book with the trial, I would expect you’ll get to keep it. I’m not taking any chances though and listening to the whole thing before I cancel my sub next month, just in case.

  22. et alors says:

BBC One posted a picture of Tom from the set.

    https://twitter.com/BBCOne/status/581138352159760384

There’s a different photo on his Facebook page, too.

    • Josa says:

      Lovely pic. Thanks.

    • Darya nee Dara says:

Judging by this tweet, I think they are back in the UK, at least for the moment. https://twitter.com/LouieABF/status/581257608604073984

I’m giggling just a little that we in the Dragonfly Kingdom aren’t the only ones trying to keep tabs on where in the world their king is filming. I think Hugh’s fans are just as excited about this as Tom’s fans, and between the two groups this production has virtually no hope of staying under the radar.

Looks like they are back in the UK, at least for the moment. https://twitter.com/LouieABF/status/581257608604073984

I’m giggling a little that Hugh’s fans are trying to figure out where in the world they are filming just as much as we are. Between his fans and Tom’s fans, I don’t think this production will be able to stay under the radar very long.

        More news:
        ‏@LindenG
Wish I’d been out earlier today! Saw these @ Lincoln’s Inn for #TheNightManager, but they seem to have finished. 🙁

      • TotallyBiased says:

Allegra–I saw the truck picture! Those are impressive–this is NOT low budget!

      • Darya née Dara says:

They really do seem to be going all out, don’t they? Location shooting in at least three different countries, heck filming on location in the center of London can’t be easy- or inexpensive. I’m getting very excited.

      • Allegra says:

        @TotallyBiased:
        Yes, not budget at all.

        @Darya:

Now I believe that rumor about locations in Mallorca because they add two spanish actors to the cast:
“Conoce a los dos actores españoles que participarán en #TheNightManager junto a Hugh Laurie y Tom Hiddleston”

Impressively, Hiddlestoners have made it to the final in E!Online’s March Madness Fandom Tournament. Unfortunately, the other opponent is Britney Spears, whose fans just STOMPED all over the Beyhive.
Still, I think even the people at E! are pretty surprised that he’s still in it. Their slightly snarky reference in the Final Four round to ‘the internet’s favourite guy (besides Benedict Cumberbatch)’ was not only unnecessary but a pointless inclusion of the ‘Batch, considering he was knocked out before making it to the Sweet Sixteen. Even Sherlockians couldn’t get past the Elite Eight, though they put up a fight.
Sorta wish this voting energy had been available when the WhatsOnStage Awards voting had been going on, but it was a more complicated scenario–think the David Tennant/Doctor Who fans were better organized for that one.

    • MtnRunner says:

I don’t even follow the real March Madness and I’m laughing that Spears crushed Queen B! I’m a bit surprised that Hiddlestoners edged out the Trekkies, but not at all surprised about the Otter. He’s lost some fan love in the past 6 months with his PR shenanigans.

hello all, just popping in quick to mention there are some new goodies on the cloud, like the nerdist podcast from right after Thor and a special treat relevant to recent releases 😉

    cheers!

  25. TotallyBiased says:

Update to the E!Online Tournament–the final round has finally started, and of course it is a serious uphill climb against Britney Spears. But at the moment we’re doing a little better than the Beyhive fared!

Looks like Tom may be filming back to back again. Scified just posted that Skull Island begins filming in May, in Kauai:

    http://www.scified.com/site/skullisland/legendarys-kong-skull-island-begins-filming-this-may-on-kauai-hawaii

The Hiddlestoners went after @Kauaimovieguy for mentioning Keaton and Simmons but neglecting Tom in his tweet. *chuckle*

    • TotallyBiased says:

@MtnRunner–I’m hurt, you didn’t notice me in the article comments? But seriously, one Hiddlestoner and one Dragonfly–and I think it is obvious which is which. One criticizes poor journalism, the other makes veiled threats regarding the wisdom of pissing off an intense fandom. Of course, we’re probably both right.

      • MtnRunner says:

TB – Is that your toesies on the beach? I thought the reactions were high-larious! Methinks Bob got a good wrist slapping for overlooking internet-famous Tom over those veterans who now have oscarsomethingorother before their names. How dare he diss the Hidds!

This does make me wonder what Tom will be up to the latter half of the year. Another project that hasn’t been announced? Oscar campaigning? hmmm….

      • TotallyBiased says:

@MtnRunner–in the article, which doesn’t suffer from the 140 char limitation, I thought it a bit disingenuous of them to totally ignore the first ‘name’ cast (i.e. Tom) who was ALSO one of the stated reasons J.K. Simmons even signed on to the project. Also, in the Action/CGI genre of Kong, Tom is actually probably more well known to their target demographic. Keaton’s Batman was a vary long time ago, in movie terms. Hence my comment critiquing their journalistic lapse–unless it was deliberate, because here we are talking about it and the movie!

      • MtnRunner says:

TB – I was too focused on the notion that SI was filming so soon, I didn’t even notice. He was mentioned in the Skified article (listed first even) and didn’t think much of Bob’s snub. Bob big misstep was missing an opportunity to have his tweet favorited and retweeted into infinity by not mentioning Tom.

What is Lysandwr Blaidd? Is that a scifi character?

      • TotallyBiased says:

@MtnRunner–you must not have seen this article when it was first posted. It didn’t mention Tom at all, even though he’d been in previous articles! Hence the snippy comments. Now that they’ve edited it, I’ll have to go back at some point and post an updated comment.

      • Darya née Dara says:

I’ve been wrong before, but I would be very surprised if SI starts filming (Tom’s part at any rate) in May. I think Tom himself has said late summer. I’m going to put a small-ish bet on sometime in August.

Lysandwr Blaidd (whoever they are) could qualify for super-fan status and seems to be everywhere online that is Tom-adjacent.

@TeeBee- I saw you gave that article (or another very similar one) the what-for! You saved me from making the same comment myself.

And the Wrap just reported that Sony Pictures Classic’s just picked up ISTL. No release date yet though. Gets me all kinds of excited / nervous for that movie again.

Just a quick pop in to mention that Hiddlestoners vs Britney Spear’s fans is a suprisingly close race! 49.6% to 50.4% at the moment, with a schmear less than four hours to go.
Link is in my comment #25 above, if anyone wants to give it a go!

    • TotallyBiased says:

Well, that was. Interesting? E! closed the poll several hours early, while the total was thatclose. Now we’ll never know if they could have pulled off the stunning upset.
