Bobby Flay thinks Stephanie March’s lawyer is ‘bullying & threatening’ him

wenn20115277

A few days ago, Bobby Flay was photographed in NYC – go here to see the photos. He’s apparently apartment-hunting for a new place and he’s got his eye on a bachelor pad in the Sterling Mason building, with apartments going from $9.65 million to $24.5 million. Which is fine, it’s his money and he can spend it on a fancy bachelor pad. But his estranged wife Stephanie March is pissed that Flay is only giving her $5000 a month, per their prenup. March’s lawyer is still throwing a hissy fit about it, but Flay’s people are pushing a very simple narrative: the prenup is valid and he’s following it completely.

Whether it’s chump change or not, Bobby Flay says his estranged wife Stephanie March willingly signed their prenup so she has to live by it. Sources close to Bobby — who filed for divorce last week — say the chef doesn’t understand how Stephanie’s lawyer can say the prenup is unenforceable and immoral since she had every right to reject it 10 years ago. After all, Bobby had been married twice before and merely tried to protect his assets and business in case the 3rd time was not a charm.

As we reported, Stephanie gets $5k a month in spousal support plus a million bucks for rights to the house along with moving expenses. Bobby also takes issue with Stephanie’s lawyer, who claims the famous chef is trying to bully his estranged wife into a settlement. We’re told Bobby is the one who feels bullied and threatened by Stephanie’s lawyer who is threatening to publicly air dirty laundry, including allegations of marital infidelity.

We’re told Bobby is willing to reach some sort of compromise, but Stephanie’s making that difficult by continuing to attack him and his character.

[From TMZ]

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for Flay to take this position, nor do I think it’s unreasonable for March to want to renegotiate the terms of their divorce. What we’re seeing her is public jockeying, an attempt to gain the upper hand publicly to strength the negotiating position behind the scenes. It would be my guess that Flay will end up giving March a larger settlement in the end, even though the prenup seems valid.

Meanwhile, there’s a rumor going around that Bobby’s split with March was timed perfectly so he could get with recently-single Giada De Laurentiis! Of course. I’ve been saying that all along, it’s suspicious that their marriages ended within a few months of each other. In Touch Weekly claims:

It’s on! “Bobby and Giada have been close for years. Now they’re free to pursue a relationship,” a source tells Star. “[Flay] and Giada have more than nasty divorces in common. They have great chemistry. If they start spending time together in public, no one will be surprised. When they’re together, sparks fly.”

De Laurentiis also recently ended her marriage to fashion designer Todd Thompson, so perhaps Giada and the 44-year-old would make for the perfect pair!

[From Rumor Fix]

Unfortunately, Giada’s rep went to Gossip Cop and shut down this rumor, saying “Giada is and has always been friends with Bobby.” Yes, but are you sleeping with him?!

Giada and Bobby in a relationship are a gossip perfect storm.

  2. goofpuff says:

I would argue the prenup is invalid myself if there is marital infidelity. If he can break his agreement to stay faithful, don’t see why she can’t attempt to break hers. that said, signing a prenup you don’t like is idiotic. if you don’t like the terms, maybe this marriage is not for you. but people do silly things when they are in love.

    • Amy says:

Pre nups exist solely for what will happen if the marriage meets a quick and unpleasant end. Since this was his 3rd marriage with issues of in infidelity in the I’m sure he made it iron tight against him being punished if he cheats.

    • Neonscream says:

Unless there was a faithfulness clause then your argument woudnt be accepted by a court. Marital vows are not legally enforceable, that is why men can’t sue women who (for some bizarre reason) agree to “obey” their husbands and people can’t sue their spouse for having an affair.

  3. Jackson says:

Poor Bobby. I’ll try to remember to light a candle for him.

    • Hautie says:

LOL! I will also light one for him too!

What an ass. But he was always one.

But I agree that Stephanie needs to be careful and not have her million dollar buy out… end up going directly to her lawyer.

If she has any forethought… Stephanie would have had his freckle ass followed. And have something to bargain with. Maybe she did. This may be why freckles is mad and feeling bullied.

  4. Bridget says:

Why on earth did she sign such a crappy prenup? And I hope a lot of this is just public jockeying and that she has some of her own assets independent of him.

    • Sarah says:

Women (and men who have less money) sign pre-nuptual agreements because they feel pressured by the more powerful party and because they want to “believe in love”. They don’t want to appear to be looking down the road to a divorce.

The best pre-nuptual agreement-and-done I have heard of was Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. Supposedly she got 10% of his total worth transferred into her account on the day that they married. He was worth $220 million then, so she got a cool $22 million. No muss, no fuss, all property issues settled by that payment. I don’t know if it’s true but it sure seems an easy way to clear it up and avoid lawyers’ fees later on if the marriage goes south.

  5. Cindy says:

These two don’t have kids, right? Than shake hands, divorce and exit. Jesus, they are both ridiculous.

  6. Kiddo says:

In that bottom photo, he looks like a camel with the nose contouring, with a heavy application of under-eye concealer, only matched in layers by the orange bronzer, which contradicts the redness in the rest of his complexion. To say that that was a horrible make-up session is putting it generously. Does the make-up artist secretly hate him?

  7. Amy says:

He’s a jerk but I don’t see her walking away from this divorce with anymore money. They didn’t have kids and he was wealthy before they met. If there’d been a cheating clause her lawyer would have announced the paragraph and line by now. It seems there isn’t and she’s hoping other factors sway the judge.

Hope she doesn’t waste her remaining money and time fighting him in court.

    • PHD gossip says:

Boom! She is counting on the bad publicity forcing him to cough up more money. But, as Patricia Duff Medavoy Perelman learned, the only person who benefits when challenging an air tight prenup are lawyers.
At the end, Patricia owed millions to lawyers and squandered her generous settlement from Perelman by fighting.
Stefanie March signed an air tight prenup. She was marrying a twice divorced guy. They had no kids. Give it up lady.

    • anne_000 says:

@ Amy – I think you may be right as to why that there might not be a cheating clause in the pre-nup.

It looks like she was so desperate to marry a millionaire that she signed a pre-nup she was unhappy with. For ten years of a childless marriage, at least she gets a million dollars, plus $50k moving expenses, $5k per month, and 6 months to move out of their flat.

I agree that hopefully she’ll be smart enough to take the money and run instead of gambling for a bigger pay-out while her money gets spent up on lawyers’ fees, especially since she has the expense of a sick mother to take care of and she needs to find another home quick.

      • Sarah says:

I read a book by Georgette Mosbacher who was twice married-divorced and had her own cosmetics company. The book was called “It Takes Money, Honey” and was about financial advice for women. She said a woman should always have money put aside that her husband didn’t know about in case the woman had to leave the marriage quickly for her own safety or if she got left high-and-dry by the husband (or he died suddenly and wasn’t appropriately insured). I totally agree with this. I hope Stephanie has been stashing money away especially since she doesn’t seem to have been working much as an actor for the last few years (to accommodate her marriage maybe?). And take all the jewellery too, honey (hope it’s real).

Stephanie, he was always a cheating dog. Please tell me you have money stashed somewhere. 🙂

  8. Dani says:

I’m sure after cheating on both of his ex wives, there’s a clause in the prenup that protects him from infidelity.

    • PHD gossip says:

I don’t think there is much sympathy for her. She married a twice divorced cheating loser. Her mom is sick, so she has 6 months and a million bucks to find other housing.

    • anne_000 says:

@ Dani – Yup. If that’s true, that should have been a big red flag for her.

  9. potatopie says:

She knew his reputation when she married him. Shouldn’t have been any surprise to her. His ego is just ridiculous. Can’t stand the guy or Giada. Maybe THEY would be a perfect pair? haha

  10. paranormalgirl says:

According to Forbes (and an attorney friend), there are a few reasons why a prenup could be invalidated. Prenups must be:

Written. Oral prenups are not valid.

Executed voluntarily and without coercion. A prenup that’s signed the day before the wedding can be invalidated.

Executed only after full disclosure. If you hide assets and/or liabilities, you run the risk of invalidating the prenup. (SHE COULD HAVE SOMETHING ON HIM THERE)

Conscionable. A prenup cannot be unconscionable. In other words, the prenup could be invalidated if the agreement is too lopsided, with one party awarded almost everything and the other receiving only a pittance. (A JUDGE MAY CONSIDER THEIR PRENUP TOO LOPSIDED IN FAVOR OF FLAY)

Executed by both parties, preferably in front of witnesses (or a notary). Some attorneys even recommend having a judge witness the signing to make sure that neither party was coerced into signing. (DO WE KNOW SHE HAD AN ATTORNEY PRESENT?)

Written in a recordable format, such as a real estate deed

    • PHD gossip says:

$1M+ and monthly payments is lopsided? Why?
      Why cant she work?
They have no kids. She gave up nothing for him. Her lawyers will earn off this. That is all.

      • Sarah says:

Maybe she can’t work because of her sick mother. And also, if he has a ton of money ($20-$40 million or so), then yes, $1.0 million IS lopsided.

What did she give up for him? Some guys don’t like their wife to work – an employable stay at home wife is a status symbol (so I hear). It shows that the husband is so very rich that his wife doesn’t HAVE to work.

    • Tiffany says:

And that is what happen with Steven Spielberg with Amy Irving. He tried and tried to say that the verbal and napkin written prenup was valid. She walked away with 100 million. That buys a lot of napkins.

    • Soporificat says:

Yeah, it seems pretty lopsided to me, and I’m guessing that is what they will be arguing, especially in light of a 10 year marriage, cheating husband, and it also sounds like she scaled back her career to support Bobby (lol, at first I typed Baby!)

  11. Neha says:

And, where is HER money? She was like the fourth lead on a show that got 11-13 million viewers and is now in syndication. I think that this is just a case of her being greedy and trying to get revenge. I’m sorry, if you marry a guy who’s cheated on his two ex-wives, don’t be shocked when he does it to you.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

She’s not greedy, she deserves a piece of his pie, she supported him while he made an insane pile of cash. This was a ten year marriage, not ten months.

  12. Sarah says:

I dunno… people keep saying she can just go get a job but for a woman her age who has been out of work so long, it won’t be that easy. Plus, she has an ailing mother to care for… and a SAH nurse is far more expensive than child care. How will that work, logistically? It won’t be easy and that’s probably unfair for her.
