Amal Clooney has had a busy week, we just haven’t had the photos. She was in Washington DC yesterday, doing a press conference for one of her clients – go here to read about that. She was also out to dinner with George Clooney and her parents in NYC a few days ago – go here to see those photos. She wore a bouncy McQueen ensemble which – to me – bordered on twee. As I keep saying, Amal has not repeated one single outfit the entire time she’s been in NYC. It’s more difficult than it sounds, especially when you consider that she’s getting pap’d constantly. I believe that she has access to all of the best design houses and she’s also a Duchess Kate-level shopper. But what if… Amal doesn’t have the best style? What if George Clooney has to approve her ensembles?
Amal Alamuddin doesn’t need a stylist — she has husband George Clooney! As an insider reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly, the always impeccably dressed Brit stunner relies on her spouse of seven months for fashion tips.
“George is very involved in selecting her looks,” says a source close to the actor, 53, and his wife, 37. “He’ll watch her try on clothes and will say, ‘I like that. You should get it,’ or ‘No, not that.’”
He also ensures the human rights lawyer, whom he wed in Italy in September 2014, is always camera-ready.
“He installed a runway, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, and a crazy light system in their closet,” adds the source of their wardrobe in L.A.’s Studio City nabe, which houses her Dior, Oscar de la Renta, and Alexander McQueen duds. “Amal can see every single angle and tell if her outfit is see-through!”
Of course, the Columbia Law School visiting professor certainly isn’t complaining. “Amal loves it!” says the source. “She shops a lot because she needs her lawyer looks and then street clothes.”
I would argue that Amal actually has three levels of clothing: lawyer looks, street clothes and date clothes. Her lawyer looks are fine, she seems to go for nice suits by Chanel and such. Her street clothes are questionable, from her awful taste in jeans to her penchant for gaudy “casual” jewelry. Her date night clothes however… that might be her strength. So, do you believe George is “watching her try on clothes”? Eh. I think he has opinions but he probably just tells her she looks good in everything.
Incidentally, I am reminded of all of George’s former beck-and-call-girls, many of whom got access to a stylist, hair person and makeup artist as soon as they started going out with George. He does care what his “lady” looks like, but only because her style is a reflection of him, because she is his accessory. At least that’s how it was before with George’s Girls. I wonder how much the dynamic has changed with Amal?

Cloonye???
Yup.
Hah! I see what you did there
I think he is, Clooney has his stylist pick out outfits for Amal to wear.
I read an article years ago and he likes to give presents to his girls as in clothes, bags, shoes and it appeared to be every day from the impression I got. I think he may have been with the vegas girl at the time it was written. He probably still does it and maybe even more if she loves it. I wouldn’t complain if it was me.
“He also ensures the human rights lawyer…”
“Of course, the Columbia Law School visiting professor…”
I like how the article keeps reminding us that she’s a super-important world saver.
But those things matter, and women are so rarely given credit for anything but fashion. I’m glad the article at least gives a nod to her achievements.
That’s not how I was reading it though. It just looked like more from King George’s PR dispenser. She’s my barbie doll and wears what I want her to, but don’t forget she’s a lawyer and a professor.
I agree that women aren’t given enough credit for their achievements. It just seemed that, in this case, they were condescendingly pushing that.
I respect her accomplishments, but I do not respect the way she participates in this PR farce that George is piloting.
” . . . those things matter, and women are so rarely given credit for anything but fashion”
That isn’t what happens with serious lawyers who don’t aspire to fashionista status. I don’t know if I have ever read an article about a working lawyer that discusses her clothes.
She is getting what she wants in terms of media coverage. She is fueling it with a ridiculous fashion parade.
I’ve come to believe that Amal’s big “human rights” cases were just excellent PR. The woman obviously revels in clothes, parties, dinners and being pap’d. She seems pretty darn shallow for some big, concerned lawyer. When AJolie, an actress, seems more involved in human rights that Amal, I call BS on her big career and interests.
Human Rights Barbie. You can style her and parade her around while touting her credentials.
Our weekly ‘we are relevant look at us’ blurb. Always look like the overly groomed show pony and the trainer who sleeps in the barn. Sums up relationship: http://www.laineygossip.com/George-and-Amal-Clooney-have-dinner-in-New-York-with-Amals-family/38351?celebrityId=21655
In fairness though, Amal was hyper-groomed and skinny before George came along. And It looks like hyper-grooming is a female thing in the Alamuddin family. Notice how tight and plumped up her mother’s face is and of course the link I posted below of her sister Tala’s fashion.
(I was trying to link one close-up pic and it didn’t work..sorry)
So….he’s basically Kanye. Concerned about image and treating women like Barbie dolls. Also, closeted.
LOL
Knee-slapper!!! Love it.
That was my first thought–Kanye. Except, I don’t really think that’s the case here. I think Amal’s style is all her own. Have you seen photos of her sister? They’re very similar in their quirky tastes.
If my husband paid that much attention to how I dress myself, I’d be insulted. Cloonye (good one, Christin) is cross-dressing by proxy.
Yep. Like a little girl playing with dolls. I avoided this thread initially cuz of the creepiness, but I guess it works for them. It’ll be interesting to see how long they both enjoy this arrangement.
Doubt it. I don’t think she needs his help with anything. If anything, she lets him think he’s helping.
Amal’s sister Tala was at the Carravagio dinner too but no pictures of her. Here’s a link to Tala about town in NYC this week. Her style is as eclectic as Amal’s especially the fringe-y outfit with the McDonald’s cup inspired purse.

I believe this. Image is obviously very important to him. He re-invented himself from starting as an extra on Roseanne to the debonair upper-crust roles by painstakingly revamping his wardrobe.
I definitely believe that George, or his ‘team’, are deciding how Amal dresses.
Google pre-Clooney Amal. She was not a fashion plate. She dressed as you’d expect a lawyer to dress – her clothes were businesslike and slightly conservative, but not super-expensive or high fashion. She was slim but not super thin. She wore little make–up and her hair was unstyled. And now suddenly she’s transformed into this hypergroomed fashionista, changing from Chanel to Calvin Klein in the course of a single day? And isn’t it interesting how we always get designer ID on her outfits? I don’t think this can be explained simply by her having more money and a higher profile. Imho, George’s PR people have definitely taken over her wardrobe.

Given her style pre-marriage, plus GC’s fashion make over of all his ladies, it’s believable that he pre-approves her style because GC cares deeply about image and optics.
I don’t believe that for a second. He might pay for a stylist, but I think he leaves the little women (her and all of his exes) to deal with that while he’s lounging in the other room drinking. It’s obvious because she does have a certain quirky style that has nothing to do with him.
For something ‘official’ like the Golden Globes, she probably asks his opinion, because his image is highly important to him. For the rest, I don’t think so, or would he agree with those horrible ripped jeans? I also doubt he saw this embellished dress for the wedding beforehand…but I do believe he makes sure she has a HUGE closet with lots of mirrors, wherever they go.
Maybe the mirrors don’t work?
Perhaps they need to clean them more often;-)
Based on what I have read, she has worked hard and been extraordinarily lucky in her career. Good on her. However, as a lawyer who actually represents asylum seekers and refugees, some of her work fashion choices are iffy at best and completely ridiculous at worst. For example, she wore a white boucle Chanel suit in Greece for meetings and travel. That was just asking for trouble, imho. She was just lucky some starstruck waiter or assistant did not spill coffee on her or that her pen did not leak ink all over her or something like that. The orange top with camel colour skirt was more or less appropriate for a work meeting/luncheon, but the legal world tends to be more conservative in dress and grooming. I know quite a few attorneys who would have thrown her major side eyes over any orange shirt and especially the snakeskin collar.
I’m not sure I understand it correctly- do you think she represents asylum seekers/refugees? Because she doesn’t. Her (or rather her chamber’s) clients are very wealthy people…
I think these two need a brand relaunch after a very very very long extended hiatus period.
I wonder how long this show will go on.
After all, we would expect a show down like a dramatic breakdown, because she was forced to do so many pap walks and the exhausting grin to the cameras, not?
On her way to anorexia hospital she will blame all people who did not call her the most beautiful woman of the universe, including George, who doesn’t give a hoot about her silly outfits.
This has led to loss of all credibility not only for him but also professionally for her. It has become a lose/ lose situation. Fire the PR brain that came up with this ridiculous and under researched narrative. divorce as publicly as you married, and start to live in the real world.
Great fodder for blogs and celeb mags, but a complete PR disaster. George looks like he’s losing sleep over the Amal hate. Poor thing. He thought he could just marry credibility. A great case study for media students.
