Selena Gomez addresses body shamers: ‘People are so mean, it’s exhausting’

I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove 😂

A photo posted by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

About a month ago, Selena Gomez hit the beach in Mexico with friends. She Instagrammed this swimsuit photo with the following caption: “I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove.” This pic was a direct response to a ridiculous amount of body shaming after Selena wore a bikini. Internet trolls mercilessly bashed her figure. The problem wasn’t Selena’s figure, of course. This was a fug bright pink bikini that wouldn’t have looked good on anyone.

Selena may have gained a small amount of weight over the past year. She’s a little curvier and looks fantastic. The criticism is depressing and sexist (because Leonardo DiCaprio and the Dadbods are celebrated for their bodies). Selena did a Google Hangout to support her adidas Neo collection. She seemed to be addressing the body shamers when she talked about bullying:

What she’d change about the world: “Bullying. I’d get rid of bullying. People are so mean, it’s exhausting.”

What is the meaning of life? “I’m 22 … I’ll let you know in a couple of years … If I’m not enjoying what I’m doing, then I’m doing something wrong. I think life is very, very, very hard and I’ve never had anything come super easy to me no matter what people may think, and I continue to be the best I can be and I just want to enjoy it. We only have one life and it is very precious, there’s a lot that we can do and there’s a lot that we should do. If you’re good and you’re kind to other people and you work hard and you’re actually doing something with your life, I think that’s so fulfilling.”

What she’s doing now: “I’ve been endlessly working on my new album, that’s almost kind of close to being done. So I’ve been working in Mexico — I’ve been in the studio constantly, and I’m so anxious for you guys to see everything and hear everything. But just know that it’s the best that I’ve ever done and you guys won’t be disappointed. I wish I could play it for you now but I can’t.”

Her guilty pleasure: “I kind of like the idea of being scared, I don’t know why. Maybe I should be in a scary movie.”

[From Adidas – Neo Selena Hangout]

Selena sounds like she’s gained some healthy perspective on life since last year, which was seriously messy. She took a trip to rehab but left a month early. Then she started walking around with her cheeks out and pitched a crying fit at Taylor Swift’s birthday party. Selena has since calmed down. She dated Zedd for months, but they reportedly broke up in April with a lack of drama. Most importantly, Selena’s stayed away from Justin Bieber. That’s a huge step. Swaggy tried to reel her back in by telling TMZ how “gorgeous” Selena looked at the Met Ball. She reportedly told him off and “called him out on his sh*t.”

FYI, Selena’s acting career may be on the upswing. She just filmed a cameo for The Big Short (which stars Brad Pitt, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and an oddly buff Christian Bale).

On on side, I really feel for her because it’s awful to hear nasty things about the way you look.

But on the other side, I’m always surprised when people in the public eye are surprised by it. It comes with the territory of being so visible. But I do get it, she’s been pretty and skinny all her life, this is probably the first time she hears something like this.

And for things not coming easy to her – girl, please. She’s a bad singer and a mediocre actress, if she wasn’t pretty she wouldn’t have a creer. Things did come easy to her.

    • perplexed says:

I think when celebrities do photoshoots that’s probably fair game for criticism because they are thrusting themselves into the limelight with their own PR. Same when Lady Gaga posts selfies of herself in a bikini on Twitter and expects commentary — like, why would you do that? Why would anyone do that? I’d rather not hear what anyone thinks of my thighs….I know it’s not going to be kind.

But I did find the criticism of Selena on the beach odd, in the sense that a) you sort of have to wear a swimsuit of some kind at the beach to be able to go into the water b) she didn’t actually look bad and c) she was off-duty.

I do think the stuff that Lady Gaga does is kind of asking for criticism. Nonetheless, I feel Selena’s context was different from that.

      • Stef Leppard says:

I think the problem was that the swimsuit was too SMALL, not that Selena was too BIG. Some people are such idiots.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

I think something truly hurtful and completely uncalled for can take you by surprise in the sense that it’s such a shock to your system that you’re like, uh! I also interpreted her statement about things not coming easily to her as more about her family life, personal struggles, and what she had to hear at a very young and impressionable age to break into the business to begin with. I remember her telling a story about how she was told as like a seven year old that she would never succeed in the business because she wasn’t pretty enough. Whoever said that to a child should get their nuts kicked in. Her Mom was also a teenage mother and she grew up in poverty. Then she dated Beiber, and well…

    • Franca says:

No, I totally agree that it’s uncalled for, but I’m surprised they don’t expect it, even if it’s random.
But then again, I was fat for a huge chung of my life, people saying horrible things never surprises me.

    • Bridget says:

I’m conflicted as well. No one should be subject to public ridicule if they gain weight, and for that I feel for her.

But Selena Gomes is an artificial product. She was created by the Disney Machine, groomed and packaged into an actress/singer/personality. She’s famous because Disney found her to be a pliable and attractive child and knew they could sell her. We hear her music and see her on the movie screen not because she’s good, but because is very easy for Disney to make someone a star.

      • MrsBPitt says:

A Disney creation is right….She is very pretty, but, she cannot sing a lick! She sang live on Dancing with the Stars once, OMG….she was horrible….off key the whole time! Disney takes attractive kids, puts them in the studio, lets them sing, and then changes their voices by computer wizardry! Then, when they reach adulthood, they can’t figure out why people aren’t lining up to buy their albums! About her weight gain, I have heard that sometimes, when a person comes out of rehab, they tend to gain weight, at least initially.

    • Samtha says:

Realizing that people are going to criticize you doesn’t mean you don’t feel the sting when it happens.

  2. Snowpea says:

I know what she means. Here in Australia we have this primeminister who is a real deadshit and I’ve got into fights on the internet with his supporters who resort to really really ugly insults like ‘fat ugly whore’ and worse.

I know it’s slightly different but what is with people being really really nasty online? The level of vitriol you can receive from strangers can be breathtaking and devastating. And I’m not famous!

Disclaimer: sometimes I’m mean about Leann Rimes but she’s so damn mean herself, she deserves it.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

I know, the internet is next-level nasty and too frequently about people blowing off steam in an abusive and cowardly anonymous way. Whenever Hozier is asked about the internet commentary on his music, he always responds by saying that he doesn’t consider the internet to be real commentary and doesn’t pay attention. Smart guy!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I had a comment on here that was so personal and intentionally cruel it took my breath away. And then this other troll spent four posts and ten column inches telling me how horrible I am. I didn’t care about the second one, because she said so many things that I knew weren’t true, but in both cases, it was so weird to be hated by a stranger. I’m sure you can multiply that by a million if you’re famous, and you just have to understand that people who would spend their time and energy that way have something lacking in themselves. It’s not about her, it’s about them. Someone who spends their time calling a young women fat and ugly is just a loser.

And btw, I’ve never seen you say anything mean in the way she’s talking about. We all get snarky on here, but you are always thoughtful and never mean.

      • Liv says:

I totally get that people are trolling the internet – they feel anonymous and free to do what they want. What I won’t understand ever is that crazy imagination of bodies of young women. Selena was always skinny and is now a bit curvier. She’s not fat. Not at all. But people have this imagination that every woman has to have a sixpack and a thigh gap and blabla. I feel very sorry for people who have these unhealthy expectations of bodies and who probably don’t look like that themselves. Sad and pathetic. And that’s exactly why young women develop eating disorders.

      • Franca says:

I’m surprised you were surprised people are horrible. I’m not saying this specifically to you, GNAT, but I’m always surprised when people older than 15 expect people to be nice. Most people are not, especially if they can be mean under a nickname.

      • snowflake says:

        @ Franca

Sounds like you’ve had some bad experiences that made you lose faith in people. Of course, there are mean people everywhere but it’s so sad to me that you assume everyone is mean. I hope you meet some nice people that help you change your opinion of people.

      • Franca says:

I’ve met nice people, great people, so I know people can be nice, but it doesn’t shock me when they’re not.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

In my experience, most people are good, or at least have good intentions. I’m not totally shocked when people are mean. I was just shocked that someone would bother to hate ME, you know? Not because I’m me, but just that I can’t possibly have any impact on their life, so why on earth would they get so worked up over it? Maybe I’ve lead a sheltered life. Lol

      • WinterLady says:

The internet is like alcohol, it creates a false sense of security and bravado. Most of the time I just roll my eyes at it, because anyone who would pick fights or tear people down over the web is most likely just some angry, lonely person who is too cowardly to open their mouths in real life.

    • mytbean says:

It’s not always bullying. I think too, someone can be delivering the message with benevolence but the text-based format strips away any humanity in constructive or concerned commentary and makes it feel cold. And then – sometimes the recipient of honest criticism just can’t handle reality regardless of whether it might do them good to consider it.

Selena looked bad in that particular bikini (only skin and bones would look “good” in that bikini). She has gained some weight and now looks like the young average woman (nothing wrong with that if she can work with it). Selena has been lead by her handlers to believe she is more talented and beautiful in relation to the rest of the world so that she could be confident enough to do her job (like a lot of new performers now).

None of these things are easy to hear nor embrace and a lot of people convey those messages in a mean spirited way but they are all telling the truth. The performers who succeed in the business know how to filter out the immaturity and see the messages and work with it instead of textually weeping about how unfair it is that the world is going to have an opinion.

      • WinterLady says:

Actually, I’d say Selena is still quite a bit smaller and in shape then the “average” young women (and men) I’ve see on the regular. So while I’ll agree the a lot of celebrities are too thin skinned and naïve these days, to say that most average joes on the internet are out to give constructive criticism is a stretch. It’s not as if Selena became a hideous beached whale, she gained a few pounds. I think it is way more valid to point out she is a manufactured product rather then a particularly talented individual, but everyone would rather tear her down over a minor weight gain. Yes, I do get that that is the price to pay when you try to make it on looks rather then talent, I don’t give a pass to the keyboard warriors out there whose only healthy outlet is tearing people down over the internet, celebrities or otherwise.

      • Shan says:

Why exactly does anyone need to make a comment on her size in the first place?

    • Kath says:

Snowpea: can I just say I love you for your description of Tony Abbott?

      That is all.

      • Snowpea says:

Ha ha Kath. It’s perfect for him isn’t it? He is the biggest deadshit OUT and sooooooo embarassing! 😉

  3. Lucy says:

She gained weight, whatever happens to all of us, BUT she still wears the same clothes she did when she was smaller which is what makes her look bigger than she is. I don’t get why she isn’t buying new clothes for her curvier figure she’s a millionaire…

  4. InvaderTak says:

I just don’t understand why people care so much to troll people like that. There is nothing to be gained by anyone. I find it hard to believe that it’s about the “rush” of being hateful to someone with no consequences because it’s still meaningless. I just don’t get it. The most I have to say about the bikini pics is that yes, that hot pink number was fugly.

    • Nicole says:

People commenting on her weight aren’t trolling. Trolling is deliberately trying to get a rise out of anyone and everyone by saying the worst things you can think of. People commenting on her weight are jerks and they’re wrong, but they’re expressing their honest wrong jerk opinions.

    • mytbean says:

Yup – not trolling – BUT… Why do they care to even comment? If it’s someone who flaunts themselves as some sort of perfection then knocking them down a peg can feel rewarding.

It’s just annoying to the public to see, day and day out, a proclaimation of what is supposed to be considered the ideal… to see these celebs relishing their own reflection, taking pride in a misplaced vanity. In a way it’s just low hanging fruit for criticism really.

  5. savu says:

I’d kill for the whole leather jacket outfit.

    • zimmer says:

The jacket’s awesome and I like her figure. I think it’s beautiful. Curves are attractive (not saying not having them is ugly). I also like her. Some stars are SO MUCH worse and unfortunately it is human nature to be mean and jealous, but some attention whores do ask for it b/c their whole motive is for people to notice them. Not all celebrities will go to such extremes and Selena is still relatively modest. I really respect that.

    • j.eyre says:

      I would too, that’s a great outfit.

  6. MelissaManifesto says:

She’s beautiful. Although I think a few months from now, some studio exec or agent will advise her to lose some weight to fit Hollywood’s seemingly uncontrollable obsession with the skinny. I really hope that she doesn’t bow down.

I will forever blessed the day people stop judging a woman’s body and thinking they have a right to it.

    • mytbean says:

Yep… This is either the start of an ED, a career decline or the beginning of a new career in infamy ala Baby Beiber, Blohan or Kartrashian. :/

    • Mauibound says:

      @MM…..word!

Personally I think she’s gorgeous with a little weight on her. Just a pretty young woman period

  7. Annie says:

She looks great. Idk why the dadbods are so celebrated, and I wish women didn’t play along because it’s another unfair advantage to men. When we gain weight we never hear the end of it, even if we actually look good with it because we get curvier, bigger boobs and butt. A little weight gain can be hot. Selena looks more womanly now, she still had her teen body before, but now she looks more adult. but she’s being bullied. We still get attacked even if we look good. But now the dadbods are a thing, even though men only get a huge beer belly and puffy face, and I’m sorry but that’s not hot at all. It’s like they’re allowed to neglect themselves to a point where it doesn’t look good (right, Leo?) and it gets celebrated! Please women, don’t play along when you hear a dadbod praise. It’s a slap in our faces, and frankly, it is not attractive.

    • Artemis says:

If mombods aren’t considered hot then dadbods shouldn’t either. The only reason men have dadbods is because they’re too lazy/tired to take care of their bodies next to their other more important responsibilities whereas women HAVE to be on point no matter what. Not fair at all.

Women shouldn’t be ashamed of the changes their body goes through but that’s the message society isn’t giving at the moment so fuck off with dadbods tbh.

      • MrsBPitt says:

Artemis…you are correct! Women shouldn’t be ashamed of the changes our bodies go through…after all, having babies, hormonal change, menopause…our bodies go through so much. However, when Hollywood, makes a woman feel like a fat pig, and worse still, make men think that all women should look like a SI swimsuit model, it is very hard, for women to feel good about themselves! I am in my mid fifties, I have wrinkles, getting a few age spots, have gained a small amount of weight over the years. I consider myself a sensible person, however, I still feel bad about myself when I look in the mirror. Intellecutally, I realise that this is how a fiftish woman really looks, but I still worry, try every new cream out there, read up on plastic surgeries, (although, I really can’t afford any and would be afraid to get them done, anyway), try any makeup that says it will make me look younger….well, you get it! Meanwhile, my husband, who is the same age as me, could care less that he is overweight, hair is turning white, etc. It is so unfair! And, yes, before I get yelled at, I realise, these are “first world problems”, but this is what the post is about!

    • Alexis says:

I totally agree with everything you’re saying about the dadbod! I remember when that came out a few weeks ago. Frankly, it smacks of someone somewhere trying to make a viral marketing thing “happen.” I doubt the majority of women or gay men prefer that body type to a lean body or a toned body or even a pretty buff body. I’ve only seen a few people sharing things related to that on FB and they’ve all been chubby men who aren’t well put together. Yes, women have sex drive, and yes, we prefer it when men are in shape, all things being equal. Of course we’ll still have sex (and full blown relationships) with men with dadbod. But most men aren’t having sex and relationships with women with the body types the media glorifies. So no, you don’t get a gold star for having a dadbod. SMH.

  8. Liz says:

Selena has beautiful body proportions and very nice posture. Her figure can handle small weight gains very well. That outfit she’s wearing would not look as great on someone with a different body type.

  9. mememe says:

I have honestly never heard her sing or seen her act. I read about her in the blogs only, but she sounds levelheaded here, and she’s gorgeous. She’s so tiny still that I never would have realized she gained weight. I’m astonished someone her size even has this issue. Wait; not astonished. JLaw’s weight was as issue to some as well.

    • Franca says:

JLaw made her weight an issue and used it as a PR ploy.

      • Samtha says:

Nah, Jlaw isn’t the one who made her weight an issue; she ran with it, though. And who can blame her? She took what some assholes were using for criticism and used it to her own advantage.

  10. We Are All Made of Stars says:

Mmmkay, so she went from a size zero to a size four? Wow, how terrible!

  11. LaurieH says:

There is a direct correlation between how critical someone is toward others and how unhappy they are with themselves. It’s projection. We focus on the faults of others to avoid having to focus on our own. You learn as you get older (and I have 30 years on Selena) that to be a “better person”, you really do have to focus on your own faults. But therein lies the trick and danger: if you do it right, you’ll find contentment. If you do it wrong, you’ll find depression and, sadly in some cases, suicide. The right way to do it is to fix the things you can fix and accept the things you can’t. I recently went to confession and the priest told me to stop being so hard on myself; to truly embrace the fact that I am human, imperfect and to “give yourself a break”. That made me feel so much better.

    • Naddie says:

So true, people (me included) project all the time.

    • Miss M says:

You are basically blaming people for having depression because they don’t work on their faults properly?! Wow…

      • LaurieH says:

No… I said beating oneself up about their faults can lead to depression.

      • Miss M says:

LaurieH, thank you for the clarification. Sorry for misinterpreting your comment.
In this case, i agree with you.

  12. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I feel for her, because she’s no longer at that age where you can eat whatever you want and be rail thin. It’s probably going to be a struggle for her from now on. And it’s sad, because she’s beautiful, and her weight is just fine, but she’s probably going to torture herself over it now because people can’t allow a woman to be anything but this ridiculous idea of perfect. It is exhausting.

As for things not coming easily for her, I wouldn’t know. You never know what someone else is going through, no matter how easy it looks from the outside.

    • Bridget says:

Selena was a child actress from a very young age – that is not an easy path to take but is obviously very lucrative for the few that make it. Her childhood was probably filled with schlepping to auditions and plenty of rejection. So I get that it wasn’t easy. But when she did hit it big (when she got a Disney show of her own) it essentially gave her the whole package because Disney likes to squeeze as much money out of their tween/early teen audience as much as possible. They provided her with songs and production (*ahem* a lot of production) for her album, plenty of airplay, and of course movie roles in Disney affiliated movies. The career that Selena has now is entirely manufactured because she was a pretty, well-behaved child -and she doesn’t really seem to get that.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, I think it’s common for people who have been handed things to deny they’ve been handed things. In their mind, they worked hard, and they probably did. They just don’t grasp that other people worked hard, too, but didn’t get the same breaks. I think it’s human nature.

      • minx says:

Agree. I’ve seen her career from the beginning because my daughter watched her on Disney. Selena is very pretty but her voice is unremarkable. Her acting was serviceable, that’s about it.

  13. perplexed says:

I think people do make fun of Leonardo Dicaprio’s body. It probably helps his mind-set that he’s male, but I also think he might be in a lane of his own — I think he just doesn’t care. Contrast this with someone like Zac Efron, who I could see hitting the gym the moment we notice some bloat on his abs. Because DiCaprio doesn’t care, that probably results in people making fun of how his body is shaped even more.

  14. lisa2 says:

She needs to stop reading the comments. That is the first thing. Stop reading. No matter who you are Celebrity or anyone on the street people will always say stuff. And if you are reading it all the time it will eat away at you. She has gained weight but as noted so have we all. But she like most celebs talk about loving their bodies and curves then in a few months/weeks they lose weight. She is posting pics of herself on social media. In bathing suits and other outfits. When you do that you open the door for people to comment on how you look. Good or Bad. She is not doing this for her fans. She did it like most people to get attention. Sadly sometimes that attention is going to be negative as well as positive.
Like yourself and block out the people that live to say nasty things. She is giving them the satisfaction of knowing she is reading what they are saying and how it affects her. She has a career and is making money, has friends. So who cares what strangers behind a computer think.. even those that are positive.

  15. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

I think the whole hipster schtick looks exhausting. That’s why I’ve never bothered with it or anything as high maintainence as it. The payoff wouldn’t be worth the effort.

  16. bettyrose says:

Wow, that pink bikini was hideous. If Internet trolls want to hate on that bikini, have at it. The beautiful young woman in the bikini, though, not so much. Of we say it’s okay because she’s famous or because she istagrams, we’re saying women’s bodies are public property. That if she did I want it, she’d hide or wear a burka or something.

    • bettyrose says:

Please forgive numerous typos in post. Last line should’ve been “if she didn’t want it …”

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

        It’s that over-zealous auto-correct.

      • bettyrose says:

Auto-correct has a personal vendetta against me. I’ve even turned it off a couple of times, but it always finds a way to turn itself back on.

  17. lucy2 says:

Sorry, I got distracted there for a moment by the “oddly buff Christian Bale” link…
She seems to be doing a lot better. Hope she stays away from that annoying little runt Beiber, she didn’t seem healthy when she was with him.

  18. CH says:

Actually, dicaprio gets body shamed immediately when he gets a bit of vacationbelly, so no double standard here.

I kind of like that she emphasises that life is “very very hard.” Most of celebrities love to wax poetic about how life is beautiful and we must enjoy it every day, every moment. I think Selena has that down to earth, nose to the ground attitude that a lot of Latinas can relate to.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree Leo gets some comments, but look at his enormously out of shape body compared to Selena’s trim body with maybe a four pound weight gain. If Leo gained four pounds more than “skinny” no one would blink an eye. So, I do think there’s a double standard, although I agree with you that men are not immune from body shaming.

      • Bridget says:

It took years of slovenliness for people to finally comment on DiCaprio, too.

      • perplexed says:

I think the commentary that both Selena and DiCaprio have faced comes from the internet (like the comments section under The Daily Mail). I don’t really think the media has said that Selena was fat. Of course, I could be wrong, but I feel this kind of body shaming is more of a social media phenomenon — where anonymous people get on the internet and say someone is fat. If the morning news shows or any mainstream outlet said Gomez was fat, I think they’d face a huge backlash.

I do think DiCaprio is smart to only cover environmental issues on his social media accounts so he can avoid any kind of commentary about his acting or his body he might not want to see.

    • Artemis says:

‘Vacation belly’ that says it all. Selena is branded ‘fat’ consistently so it’s a fact according to some people but ‘vacation belly’ implies that Leo is trim when he isn’t on vacation which isn’t true. Selena is still in shape, she’s not even close to chubby. And uhm, Leo is always on vacation. Every day is a party. Where’s there’s a boat, rich folk and models, Leo is there. And Lukas Haas.

Leo is a natural thin person but unfortunately that didn’t last after his 30s. He’s been sporting a dirty beard (not a sexy one like Gyllenhaal) and chub for 2 years now, and no, it’s not for a role like so many have said. He doesn’t care and would only hit the gym if a role requires him too. That alone shows his white male privilege. Can you image Blanchett or Kidman letting themselves go like that in between roles? No. Let’s be real here. Theron got in shape within a few weeks after her Monster role, Leo just stays ugly.

His style was always lazy (white socks with sandals, a grubby t-shirts and shorts). He always looked like a dirty tourist yet it’s women like Stewart who always get told to take shower. Hmmm, there are double standards.

The biggest ‘evidence’ that Leo gets away with it is despite some commentary on his body or style, you would never see outlets reporting on it like they do with women. Or journalists asking them about their bodies. Just nope. It’s not part of the conversation.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

LOVE your comment Artemis (although I’m glad, now that I’ve just thought about it, that I thought Kristen Stewart always looked sloppy/uncaring of what she looked like vs dirty. LEO looks dirty (mainly bc of the bloat)….

  19. Chem says:

    She is an addict.

  20. LILOU says:

I’m sick of all the celebrities crying because they are “fat bullied”.

Most of them spend their entire time showing us (poor peasants) how wonderful and how beautiful they are. How many selfies of celebrities in bikini have we’ve seen ?? How many articles have we read about “losing the baby weight in 4 weeks”??? How many “I just take long walks and do some yoga” have we’ve heard??? How many pictures photoshopped to oblivon have we’ve seen??

Sometimes, I honestly feel that those celebrities body shame the rest of the entire population.

So when a celebrity – like Selena or Kim K. – cries about being bullied about her weight, it make me sick!!!

    • Lola says:

Exactly. She’s not being bullied, she’s just not being told she’s perfect by thousands every time she posts a dumb bikini pic.
She wants the attention, but just the one that says she’s better than everyone else. Well, she’s not, and she’s crying over it.

I think she just mentioned bullying in general, and we deduced it was about fat shaming. But the answer above doesn’t actually mention fat shaming as the source of her angst. Someone asked her what she’d change about the world, and she gave an answer that worked well enough to the question posed. However, I don’t think she was specifically calling out the people who hated her pink bikini, even if that was a context from her real life we could draw from. She could have just as easily been talking about the time people made of her and Bieber together. Or she could have just been making a general observation about people being mean — I don’t think the excerpted answer above really gives a clear indication of the kind of bullying she’s trying to reference.

Good for her. And she does look great! She always has. Also, it’s too bad that she and Zedd broke up. He was (and is) a MASSIVE upgrade from Swaggy, in more ways than one.

  22. snowflake says:

My husband thinks she looks great in that bikini pic!

  23. Wooley says:

I don’t think Leo has a dadbod, he looks scruffy and maybe he gains a little in between films, but he always always trims it up before being on camera. Also, Selena looks great!! Hotter even

I have to agree. When a role requires him to be fit, I do think he gets back into shape like he’s required too. It’s when he’s off-duty that he allows himself to gain some weight, but I can’t recall when I’ve actually seen him look like that onscreen (unless he’s supposed to look bad like when playing J. Edgar Hoover with wrinkle make-up on).

  24. Lauren says:

I don’t know why anyone wishes this girl a well career or even thinks she has a good perspective on anything. She can’t sing and picks horrible singles. Also she cannot act and just because she seems nice doesn’t mean she should get success. She is a product of the Disney machine and I won’t even give her nice because she is the company she keeps. I guess I just don’t get this sites posts about her . The good girl image of hers has always seemed so transparent since the beginning to me.

  25. snowflake says:

she prob gained weight because she quit doing the “things” she was doing. jmo. i always thought she was suspiciously skinny, and I have my opinion on how she stayed that skinny.

  26. LAK says:

People are always mean. She needs to simply not engage.

  27. Annie says:

Yep that’s how it goes in the public eye I’m afraid – at 115lb you are “anorexic”, at 125lb you are “fat”. The message is the same either way – a woman’s body is never good enough. It’s ridiculous how narrow the standards are, trying to chase the perfect ideal is like chasing a carrot on a stick. My best advice for Selena is to grow a thicker skin and be the weight at which SHE feels the most healthy and beautiful, and ignore those who feel the need to call that too fat/too skinny instead of focusing on their own problems.

    • Anony says:

      I totally agree.

Not only that…if you achieve the long leggy look of a victoria secret model…they will make you feel bad for not being ‘curvy’ with a volumptious butt like a Kardashian. If you are an hour glass figure with bountiful curves, they will make you feel bad for not being the leggy, lean victoria secret model. You litterally cannot win. You will never meet the societal ideal because it doesn’t exist!

  28. Naddie says:

I’ve just seen her picture and all I can say is that people are ridiculously sick. There’s no way she could be fat, like, no damn way. Even if she was ten times bigger, why being mean to someone who doesn’t even make her career out of her assets? I don’t remember seeing her bragging and showing her body anywhere.
Now, she does need to realize her luck, since she can’t sing, act, dance or has a remarkable beauty and stll doesn’t need to wake up every day at 5 am to get a low paycheck.

  29. Harrison says:

She’s right. People are mean. Plus they’re judgmental, hypocritical, self righteous, opinionated, wrong in their assumptions, narrow minded know-it-alls…On the up side, they are forgiving, compassionate, philanthropic, humane, hard working, eager to please, want to make a difference. They are, in a word, human. And we are all afflicted with it. And it is exhausting.

  30. Quinn says:

Women cannot win…we are either too fat or too thin to the hecklers of life.

There was a time in my life when I could eat anything I wanted and not gain weight- alas, those days are behind me. Welcome to adulthood, Selena…first your metabolism betrays you, and then your skin. You have at least 15 years before you need to panic, though…enjoy them! heehee!!

I have a hard time feeling sorry for her. When she was skinny and posting selfies in bikini’s and getting positive feedback from all the horney dongs in the world, she liked it. Now that she’s not the skinny twig and feeling insecure about it, she doesn’t want the attention and she’s sensitive to the negativity. I guess the comments and critiquing are great when it’s in your favor, but not so much when you don’t like what you hear. You can’t have it both ways. And no, I don’t condone starving herself to get skinny or stay skinny. In a way, I think some humbling might be good for her and many others, who – don’t kid yourselves – have been snarky about bigger builds when they were skinny and not possible targets.
