As analysts predicted yesterday, Jurassic World edged out both Avengers movies to become the top domestic opener of all time. Hollywood is so surprised, but it’s hilarious how this film has outrun modest expectations to become a sleeper popcorn hit. Chris Pratt will be coasting for awhile on this success, and there will surely be sequels.
There are a few Pratt stories floating around. First, he got ambushed by some dinosaurs as a prank. Dude took it well, but seeing “real” dinos may have taken a few years off his life. Here’s the video clip with some NSFW language when Pratt figures out he’s been pranked:
Pratt has a followup to his gross GQ interview. These are the discussion leftovers. He talks a lot about his early career and naked hippie life. Pratt also admits he played dumb for years in order to lure audiences into a false sense of security:
Charming his way into success: “I was pretty good at lowering people’s expectations by this ‘aw shucks’ dummy attitude. It was total survival mechanism in life. From an early age. That I really honed when I became a door-to-door salesman. This naive kind of … the guy who was like too adorable to say no to. It was my persona as a young standup comedian. So I developed my winning formula: the slightly dimwitted but charming guy. Immediately you’d let down your defenses because you’re, like, ‘Oh, what’s the worst that could happen with this young little dummy?’, you know what I mean? And that led to some roles.”
Did this carry over into real life? “Yeah. Loved that. Because I think the greatest offense you can have is to trick someone into underestimating you. It’s like the little catfish who has like a toe that looks like a worm, you know? ‘Come here.’ Deep down inside I’ve always been a survivor. I’m probably revealing too much but who gives a sh*t?”

Pratt did well at tricking people into thinking he was simply a jolly guy who could play the fool well. Little did the world realize that Pratt had a plan. Well, maybe he didn’t have a plan, but it all worked out for him. Just like it did for the not-so-little movie that could, Jurassic World.
Pratt and Anna Faris have been joking around on Twitter about Blue the raptor. I guess Anna’s a little jealous, but Pratt assured her there was no need to worry.
She's a little cold blooded for my taste. #rimshot But seriously. Nothing happened. https://t.co/TRoaJYIiaD

I hope and pray Pratt does not start talking way too much and overexposing himself. He’s in a great spot and his persona is still good and clean. I don’t want the spiral to happen and he makes one weird or crazy statement that makes us all go “huh? Hmmmm i don’t know about this guy”. Just quit while you’re ahead Pratt. Please!!!!!
The cutest I have ever seen him was a guest appearance with Anna on Top Chef. I had never paid much attention to him before then, but he was so cute, I started watching Parks and Rec (and fell hard for Nick Offerman). Chris is cute in television interviews, but the ones he gives for the rags are verbose and immature, and it is going to get old after a while.
Yeah I foresee media and fan burnout if he keeps going on like this. There will be a turn. I like him and I’m already like hmmmm Chris might want to step back for a few minutes buddy. Lol
I’m really nervous about it because I do like the kid. But at some point you just need to stay home, tell your PR and managers “No” and shut the F up! Truly. Ana Feris needs to take the house keys, lock him in and let him sit there for a month so in July he’ll still be cute and funny.
The only person who successfully conquers overexposure is Beyonce and I don’t know why! Ugh.
OH backlash is inevitable, this always happens to people who ‘blow up’ so big especially if once upon a time they were the underdog.
I agree, the best thing he could do after this movie’s box office start is step back from the limelight a bit, don’t get overexposed, and stay low key until the next film is ready to promote. He generally does that anyway, and seems pretty level headed about the whole thing.
So funny to think he was just going to be in a couple of episodes of Parks & Rec, and then they expanded the role, and by the time the show ended he was a huge movie star.
He’s contractually obligated to give these interviews. Part of your contract when you sign on to a big film is to do press and promote it. Every actor in a big film is in your face for a month or two… and then it’s over, and on to the next. I think Chris will be just fine. He’s smart. That’s what he’s trying to tell you.
Exactly. It always baffles me that people seem to think that these celebrities go into interviews and just start a stream of consciousness ramble about everything and anything. They are answering the questions that are posed to them. If they were to go into an interview constantly saying stuff like “no comment” or “I’d rather not talk about that” folks would think they’re great big a-holes. I don’t get that mindset.
it will be interesting to see when chris pratt will have an actual film that isnt marvel or a sequel and see how it goes. that movie with him and jennifer lawrence will be the real test at how good they are at bringing in people for both, plus it sounds really good anyway!
Meh, good chance that movie bombs just like The Tourist. Hollywood just doesn’t have good movie ideas anymore.
Well his next movie is with JLaw (Passengers) which films at the end of the summer. So actually it might be a hit that cements his status.
I’ve been a fan of Pratt since Everwood so it’s nice for everyone else to jump on the train of how awesome he is. I don’t think he tends to do interviews when he’s not working but I think the exposure is because he went from the end of his tv show right into big movies. I mean look at the backlash with JLaw….you NEVER see her if she isn’t promoting but she still got a ton of crap after her Oscar run. People just don’t like stars that rise too quick. It’s sad really
@Alex: So true!…and unfair, bizarre because why root for the underdog only to bitch about them when they actually DO succeed?!. It never made any sense to me. I still believe that the backlash campaign launched against Lawrence was very weak and short lived…nothing compared to what Anne Hathaway went through, yet still they tried, it just never took off.
People still like/love Jennifer Lawrence and respect her as an actress (especially within the industry) so she’s going to be fine as well.
As for Passengers, I’m really looking forward to it-the script is terrific and dramatic…we already know that Lawrence can handle drama but it will be a first for Pratt so, I’m very interested to see his range. Besides, you just know Lawrence and Pratt will look fantastic together!.
I like this guy and I hope that Hollywood doesn’t go and spoil him. I hope he stays down to earth and close to his family and does not get egotistical as some of the actors are.
i wonder how long it will take for people to hate him for the exact same stuff they love him now.
I liked him until know that he kills animals. Now I hate him.
A lot of people hunt for meat, just like he does. If you hate him for that, by the same logic you should hate anyone who eats meat.
Jessa he’s said he hunts for sport. He hunts for fun not just for meat.
Hate to say it, but even if he hunts for sport odds are that the animals he kills all still have much more peaceful deaths (and certainly better lives!) than most farmed animals.
“Intensive livestock husbandry”, as it’s called, is an abomination.
I’m assuming you’re vegan. Just be happy those animals live a much happier life than the ones people buy at the grocery store.
Those dinos are awesome. Can you imagine having them at a garden party? Or your kids birthday? Sure, someone might get scarred for life, but it would be something to remember.
