I’ve sort of developed a theory about Duchess Kate and Prince William’s spending habits: they spend money because they’re bored, because they are idle, because they don’t have a lot of other stuff (like, royal or charitable work) occupying their time. Like, I’m so bored, what should we do? Let’s go shopping and spend some of Charles’ money and taxpayer money. Let’s renovate a perfectly beautiful kitchen. Yes, and let’s add a second kitchen to a home we don’t even use! Let’s keep spending hundreds of thousands on endless renovations at both properties! That will keep us occupied.
So the Anmer Hall renovations continue. I think at this point, the bulk of the interiors have been completed and now they’re just doing stuff to the property around the mansion. According to the Daily Mail, the total cost thus far of Anmer Hall’s renovations is £1.5 million, although I’ve seen some outlets put it closer to £2-2.5 million. Keep in mind that the home had previous tenants who were moved out in a hurry so Will & Kate could move in – the way the press treats Anmer Hall, it’s like it was a dilapidated tear-down. It was not. It was already perfectly livable and had already undergone many renovations in the previous years by its former residents. So, what’s new? Will and Kate just must add a new tennis court. But not where the old tennis court was placed, the new court must be located somewhere new. They are bored, I’m telling you.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wasted little time escaping to Norfolk haven, Anmer Hall, for some much-needed family time in rural tranquility with their new daughter, Princess Charlotte, and son Prince George. And now it has been revealed that Kate and Prince William are looking to further enhance their ten-bedroom Georgian house, a gift from the Queen, which is to be their home for the next few years.
Planning application has been submitted to the borough council seeking permission to re-site a tennis court at Anmer Hall. The 3.65-hectare court will sit adjacent to the stately home overlooking the luscious parks and ponds. It will have an AstroTurf surface and will replace an existing court, which has fallen into disrepair. But it will be on a new site further away from the hall, which will ‘improve the views’ the Royal couple will be able to enjoy from their home.
King’s Lynn and West Norfolk council received the planning application by surveyor Andrew Holt, from the Sandringham Estate office. It said a tenant farmer was consulted about the refurbishment and a planning notice is online for public to submit comments by the end of July.
The proposal reads: ‘The current tennis court needs extensive work to resurface and we have been advised that to resurface we need to remove all the existing court and start again. In doing so the landscape designer has recommended that the court is moved away from current position to the proposed position which involves taking a very small area of Parkland to provide sufficient space around the court. The area concerned does not form part of the Ancient Monument and will not have any impact on the Agricultural tenant as the land is so small. Moving the court further away from the Hall improves the views from the Hall and locates the court largely in an area of undeveloped garden. On completion of the new court the garden will be prepared to reinstate the fencing and re-erect the parkland iron fencing. The topsoil from the new site will be used to reinstate the existing Court area with the old hard surfacing taken off site for recycling.’
So, Anmer will likely get a brand new tennis court, a new swimming pool, a new garden room addition, a pergola, patio, kitchen, driveway, privacy trees and tons of added security features. I wouldn’t be surprised if they put a helipad in too since William loves to travel everywhere by helicopter. The royal sources insist, as they always do, that all of these renovations are being paid for “privately,” which means that the Queen, Prince Charles or the Middletons are paying for the renovations. My guess is Charles, through the Duchy of Cornwall funds. That’s probably part of the deal with Charles – he gets to see his grandchildren every few months if he keeps dumping more money into the Cambridges’ neverending reno.

These two are doing the impossible: making me feel sorry for Charles.
Ha! I know right?
Indeed. And I wish the media would stop making these 2 happen.
I’ve always liked him & I do feel sorry for him. He’s like the middle child or the “unlovable homely child” who gets blamed for everything.
Completely shameless. They’re just trolling us now.
Yeah.
“Much-needed family time” omg, I had an eye roll for the ages when I read that. They’re delusional.
This.
Now, now. After each of my three children was born, my husband and I escaped to our country estate where we sat without working for years. It would be peasanty to work when family time must be observed.
They are the Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, minus the amazing fashion.
The Daily Mail must’ve been sarcastic, right? Nobody could write that with a straight face anymore, not even the royal spokespeople I think.
Yes but new pics were leaked yesterday of kate and George playing, not to mention the christening this weekend so all will be forgiven and forgotten. Coincidence?
Yes, as usual there’s the kids when they want something or there’s criticism in the papers. UGH.
No coincidence jeanne.
I’ve been looking forward to the Christening photos. Actually I’m hoping there will be video of the after Christening, but knowing William and the press, likely not.
Ma Middy wants to bring Wimbledon to the Delicate Snowflake. OMFG the sugars are total idiots at this point. So…who’ll use it? DK-no-friends w/ Rebecca? Billy is so BUSY w/ his job, of course. Bring in future Mrs. Pippa Percy and Rasputin and his Air?
Pippa Percy? Could you be more off?
Rasputin? Unnecessarily mean.
As for W+K they are lazy brats but they do have friends – and sporty ones.
Your intended message seems lost in your tone.
Not really wanting to come off as a b****, but the way the future head of our Commonwealth is acting is grating on my peasant nerves. Yeah, the Rasputin thing is totally bitchy.
Oh dear. I didn’t mean to imply bitchiness just extreme snark. I apologize for seeming judgemental. Totally fair that the Cambridges bring this out in people. The Carole stuff is excessively misogynistic and classist but you know, meh. And Pips and James seem to be very different birds, imo – I like Pippa.
But don’t kill the snark lol.
:)t
Who is Rasputin?
Addison, he was an advisor to the Czarist Russian royal family before the Revolution. You won’t find a lot of historians saying nice things about him. He had a distinctive beard and James Middleton has recently grown a beard. COSquared seems to think they are similar beards.
You all are free to argue about the Pippa thing. Go for it.
The “Ma Middy” is gold though. Hilarious and appropriate.
Lol. Totally fair.
Nothing like british humour. Keep this coming.
I think you’re right. James with his crazy eyes and odd personality does remind one of Rasputin but without the influence over a Royal family.
I think he grew his beard in such a way as to try to look like an early 20th century BRF member. As if trying to remind people of his connection with them.
If Percy marries Pippa, I think his parents would faint with disappointment.
I think you’re right about the tennis court. Who are they going to play with? Certainly not their children.
Why would Pippa want Percy if she never wanted him before? They were flatmates, confidantes and have many friends in common. Stop with the Pippa wants Percy stories. Besides, so far she is still quite taken with Nicko and they are committed.
anne_000, I agree about James. He is so pretentious. The Pippa-Percy romance might never had had a flying chance in hell of happening, but I do think she tried.
@ Imo
I would be VERY MUCH SURPRISED if Pippa turned down Percy if he had asked her to marry him.
Do I think that she always had in her mind that Percy would never do for her? That if Percy ever had such thoughts, then she’d rebuff him every time? The heir to the Duke of Northumberland? Really?
I’m with you anne_000. I doubt she’d say no or refuse to consider the idea.
Am guessing the tennis court is for the children. This is where George and Charlotte will take their tennis lessons. Must move it as far away from the house as possible!
You ladies are all free to speculate but your idea that Pippa is dying to marry a title is informing your speculation. So be it. But my observations are supported by fact. Pippa was in a head over heels relationship with JJ Patterson. It ended shortly after Kate’s wedding – rumored to be because he disliked Pippa’s new fame.
Percy was a shoulder for Pippa to cry on and he took her skiing after the breakup to get her away from the press for a few days. This fueled a lot of rumors which have persisted. Doesn’t mean they are grounded in the truth. I don’t know if she would like to marry someone with a title but most outlets support the fact that she and longtime bf Nicko are happy and doing quite well.
Eta Alex Loudon, not JJ Patterson.
They have been friends for years and may have been more than that. Maybe more than that in the future.
The facts from my observations? The Middleton family has worked for decades to be part of that set. The wealthiest heir in the UK? It is unlikely that Pippa and her mother never considered Percy as a possible match.
Pippa Percy Rasputin, on the tennis courts – I call that little cluster of words, totally clever.
@wolfie (aka wolfpup), it’s good to have you back! Hope all is well!
Happy Independence Day to Everyone here in the States!
Yes, Olenna – God Bless America! May all of our highest aspirations bring peace to all peoples.
Wait, what? They are annexing PUBLIC parkland for a new tennis court? That is what it sounds like. What the hell?
What I love about this is the approval from the tenant farmer. As if the tenant farmer could refuse.
Ha, exactly. It’s so feudal.
I thought the same thing. Guess s/he couldn’t say much as s/he doesn’t own the land.
The plight of the tenant farmer: “Oh, uh yes, yer honor, please do take me only source of livelihood away. The little ‘uns and me can always grub round in the fields for wild roots and berries to fill our bellies. We can tell which are the poisonous mushrooms, I think.” (while knuckling forehead)
Greatly exaggerated, I know, but I couldn’t resist.
Is it parkland, part of tenant farmland, or taking a large of both? The tennis court isn’t in front of the house blocking views, it is over to one side. Why do they have to move it another 20 feet and take someone else’s land?
Answer, because they can and no one will stop them. HM is the owner of this house. Why is this planning request being put through by tenants and not the home owner? Or this is another stunt they’ve pulled without telling her.
I hope RepublicUK takes up this cause and defeats the land grab.
My vague recollection is that the entire estate is adjacent to Sandringham Park, which may be public lands (?). I know the general public has some sort of public access in or near the estate too…perhaps that is the Ancient Monument area though. Help, UK Celebitches!
I am wondering why the tenant farmer needs to give up any part of his leasehold as a buffer zone for the new court. Don’t they have enough land around their house already?
And it makes little sense to me that they want to move this tennis court to improve their views when the old one was not exactly sited right up against the house. You can barely see it from most of the house, and it too is surrounded by trees. Besides, wasn’t the whole point of this renovation to prevent the paps from seeing them? Hence, the new trees and the rerouting of the driveway…all of which were designed to block sight lines. I guess they really like looking at trees.
BearcatLawyer
I occasionally get involved with local planning on our parish council and our regulations and by laws in this area are labyrinthine, to say the least! It’s unlikely anyone here will be able to unravel it for you, sad to say.
However, here is the actual planning application. Three public comments so far, all from historic care-taking organisations saying that they haven’t been consulted.
http://online.west-norfolk.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=NQFV07IV05900
BTW: the only thing I can think of to say about this is KILL ME NOW.
Sixer, THANK YOU! The plans make this story even worse…so yes, KILL ME NOW is an appropriate sentiment.
Seriously, they are keeping the tennis court in the same spot, just moving it a few feet over. Coincidentally this means a good chunk of the court is now over their property line, requiring them to annex the agricultural land. They cannot even argue that it is a new location because roughly half of the new court will be built on the spot where the existing court is.
IT SEEMINGLY DOES NOTHING to change/improve the views from their house, much less from the agricultural land in the direction of the house. In short, this request is a waste of money and a land grab.
Sixer, glad to see you here. I thought you’d be at the dentist, what will all the chewing of tacks this week. Maybe some austerity protestors will show up at a certain church on Sandringham Sunday afternoon.
wow Sixer — thank you for your research. Just….wow. To echo you and Bearcat, ugh, kill me now.
The one good thing about planning here, guys, is that all applications are publicly available. You just need to know the local council and it takes ten seconds to look it up. No thanks required!
Bearcat: it’s just the ultimate in entitled profligacy, ain’t it?
Nota: if anti-austerity protestors turned up at Sandringham, it would make my day!
Tell me this, why does their tennis court need to be 3.65 HECTARES? That’s a bit over 9 acres – are they building a new Wimbledon there? For a tennis court that’s part of a private residence, who needs anything this big — this is a commercial-size facility!
My guess is that is a mistake on the planning documents. Even if they meant .365 hectares, that would be almost an acre for a tennis court.
Gah! It’s been pulled down! I tried to go to the link and got the message:
“Planning Application details not available
This application is no longer available for viewing. It may have been removed or restricted from public viewing. “
Yep, it is pulled down. Makes you wonder why…….
How very Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy of them. Beware of the Leopard.
It has been ages since I’ve read Hitchhiker’s Guide… I only remember the dolphins and the potted plant (among other things) – please enlighten me about the Leopard.
Someone at work uses that phrase to describe when public information is being hidden. In the first book, Arthur complains to the people trying to tear down his house that he wasn’t told about the plans for the highway.
“But Mr Dent, the plans have been available in the local planning office for the last nine months.”
“Oh yes, well as soon as I heard I went straight round to see them, yesterday afternoon. You hadn’t exactly gone out of your way to call attention to them, had you? I mean, like actually telling anybody or anything.”
“But the plans were on display …”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard’.”
Nota: That is such a funny exchange from the hitchhiker’s guide.
I must admit that though I have some of the books, i’ve never actually read them. Must go and dust them off.
I’m going to use the expression ‘beware the leopard’ from now on.
It sounds to me as if they think it’s quite low class to see anything but nature from their windows.
Having any hint of the tennis court in sight or mind, even with the tree cover, probably makes them think that it looks like their plot of land is small.
I don’t know who was talking up moving the tennis court even several feet away, but it’s what I expect from the Hyacinth Bucket mentality the Middletons seem to have.
Is this doublespeak? “The current court needs extensive work – we have been advised – *in order to resurface*, we need to move the existing court”. Notasugar, tell me this is not logical. Double speak, I say. I know this is only minor usage, but it takes you from this place to that, like it’s sensible.
Wolfie: not double speak, but not as we know it. The current court needs to be renovated, but that means moving it a few feet away……
Sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction. You can’t make this stuff up!
They’re playing to my Bertie Wooster-y stereotype of British upper-class twits. Sadly, Jeeves seems to be MIA.
Bertie Wooster would never!! Aunt Agatha, though…
These twits make Bertie Wooster look focused and ambitious by comparison. They don’t deserve a Jeeves!
Any guesses on the godparents?
Well, at least this won’t be wasted.
Okay if you take the .56 p figure that all the british people and just do tax payers would that make it between 3-5 pounds per anum ? Also the royal family only gets 15 percent from the land/buildings they own which makes up that soverign grant.
Finally last time i checked when charles was this age did he or did he not spend through the money his mother the queen set up for him? Looks like very generation does this till they are allowed to set up their own system for the next generation.
Sorry i am proudly a royalist but i have to be fair here im sure money gets spent frivilously at points but all these stories coming out are making me highly suspicious that charles is behind this.
Pia, those numbers are nowhere near accurate. Latest estimates put the cost of the royals at far north of £300 million.
i agree we pay little to nothing for the royals and charles is an Idiot i see what hes doing
The numbers have been public since before WHK were born. The royals have to make an account of their spending of public money. It’s ridiculous to say that Charles is deliberately making them look bad when he is required to show an accounting for the public money he uses. Does he go out of his way to make himself look bad when he is outed as the biggest user of the transport budget with lavish private jets and helicopters or do you just ignore that part?
Secondly, If you wish to make changes to your house and planning permission is required, the notice is public so the community can make their comments and help the planning committee come to a decision. This rule applies to everybody. WK aren’t being victimised here.
Regarding your comment about being a royalist, I like our current system only because I don’t like other systems, but that doesn’t mean we must be wilfully blind to the abuses and the blatant PR designed to keep us blind.
Eg your statement about The crown estates. They have never belonged to the royals. It’s a historical fact that even the BRF acknowledges publicly (go to the BRF website), but which has been successfully sold as misinformation to justify money given to the royal family.
The tax payers pick up more than just the sovereign grant. Different government depts also pick up some of the royals expenses on top of the sovereign grant. The most glaring omission is the security bill which comes out of the Police dept and that’s estimated at £200-£300 per year for the royal family alone. So the next time you hear that the police is underfunded, think about that. Bear in mind that the police has made an effort to cut it’s protection force to extent that some of the royals’ security is coming from private funds, not the police dept.
The royals find ways and means to sock the tax payers which is absorbed by different govt depts which makes the dept look like they are overspending whilst the royals are the model citizens of austerity eg when William went on a private visit to UK Spy headquarters – KP released a statement confirming the private nature – which was then re-classified as royal duty afew days later AFTER the £8K transport cost of visit was made public and which he would have been privately liable for, if it had remained a private visit – KP duly trotted out another statement confirming the royal duty nature of the visit or the fact that Kate’s clothes and grooming bills on public engagement are tax deductibles. Mind you, that extends to all the royals too.
My long winded point is that one can be a royalist and still see the picture, just as one can be a republican and see the many ways the republic shafts it’s citizens.
To add: Charles has been financially independent from the Queen since he was a small child.
Apart from his royal family trusts, he has been the recipient of income from the duchy of Cornwall since he was named the duke of Cornwall and Prince of Wales when he was a small child. That’s it’s only purpose. Growing up, that income would have been held in trust, but he has always been far wealthier than his siblings as a result just like William will eventually be IF he is named Duke of Cornwall and Prince of Wales on Charles’s ascension to monarch.
You have a right to your opinion.
I live in the US for a long time how much mony is spent from campaign dollars etc. for the president and family in reagrds for security/grooming etc. That gets picked apart as well. Yes every year we learn how much is spent and yes it is public but all of these luttle stories afterward seem extremely one side and suspicious.
All of this has been nit picked and pulled apart for years. When the queen pass on and Charles becomes King I think we will all see how long the monachary lasts. Every country in our common wealth has a vote of confidence towards him as king. I dont drink his kool aid sorry He is the poison in that family.
Alex: I was responding to Pia, so I have no idea what you are talking about.
Secondly, why do you think these stories are suspicious? Granted some ARE plants and or media speculation, but sometimes, like this particular story, they are straight forward. Their being made public is straight forward because anyone seeking planning permission to alter parts of their property has to submit a plan of intended alterations which is made public. No exceptions.
I agree that the monarchy could be in trouble after the Queen dies, but I’m curious why you think Charles is the poison in the family, alex. Honest question, too. If it’s because of Camilla I already understand your point, but if there’s something else I’m interested to hear it.
Okay LAK. When you talk *citizens*, I am yours…(how’s that? – finally, and for sure?). Yep – I am all over this.
Hm. If I were rich, I wouldn’t have Astro-Turf as the surface. Yuck. Bad for football, bad for baseball, bad for everything. World’s worst rug burns…
Not to mention MRSA.
Just watch…six months after this tennis court is complete, they will redo it to put in grass or a proper hard surface because the AstroTurf isn’t green enough. Or it clashes with the trees. Or Kate and Carole need to be kept busy.
this
Once the public comment time period has expired,an astute contractor will realize there was a typo in the planning docs. Turns out the admin assistant confused Astroturf with the term Kentucky bluegrass. Or when construction begins, there will be a newly discovered drainage issue that will require grass instead of Astroturf.
IOW, I don’t believe for a minute they are actually planning on putting in faux grass. The plan as published is media spin and I bet there are certain variances they can make once construction begins that won’t require approval or additional public comment.
Astro turf is sooo middle class – keeps with the narrative they’ve currently got going.
Ew.
Dumb f*cks.
‘So, Anmer will likely get a brand new tennis court, a new swimming pool, a new garden room addition, a pergola, patio, kitchen, driveway, privacy trees and tons of added security features.’
Ha! “It’s good to be a gangster…”
She’ll attend Wimbledon but isn’t attending any commemoration events next week. But look, pictures of the baby coming soon! Bread and circuses.
The royal reporters on twitter are getting interesting.
Gangsters, bread and circuses! And we are the salt of the earth!
Why wouldn’t they redo their house to their liking? I’m doing it with my little semi-detached slice of the Canadian pie …
Why is everyone shocked, SHOCKED when rich privileged people act like rich privileged people?
+1 they have money and lIke to spend it, everyone’s right I guess. I’ll admit it, I’m just jealous. I would love to go to Wimbledon and have my own tennis court… and night nurses… and nannies… and housekeeper… and trainer… and no expectations to work. .. did I mention I’m jealous?
They do have an expectation to work. William and Kate just seem to be ignoring it.
I’m not shocked about spending money – heh!!! What is shocking is that the “media” tells us that they are just like us! (wannabees)
Little George is impossibly cute. but also quite grabby from appearances, yes?
Perhaps now we know why. I am thinking of the “Mini Shopaholic” book by Kinsella, in which the Shopaholic Becky’s child began to mirror the mom’s purchasing predilections in funny but seriously concerning ways. “Miine, minnnnnne, minnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnne!!!”
Meanwhile Carole chugs along calmly with her tiny assessing eyes and thin coin-biting lips, grimly pleased with this investment. A not-very-bright weakfish family with an endless pile of treasure chests and a pouty limp eldest son they are all desperately trying to keep happy. What a find! What a find.
I like the way you describe them.
I’m thinking more along the lines of “mine mine mine” from the seagulls in Finding Nemo….
🙂
OT. I know. But here is my thing & you all probably discussed it already and I missed it . . . In those balcony photos & the photos of George on the polo field, there is absolutely no recognition of the familiar between him & the Windsors. Of those babies & toddlers I’ve had the privilege to know they are always leaning outward from Mom or Dad when being held or have their arms extended upward to be picked up or held by someone they like/love or are familiar with. You all know that thing babies do when they want to be held by someone else? That’s the thing I’m talking about.
Could just be one photo & one still but Charles is in Waity’s & George’s face, front and center, and George is like “the bald-headed patches of grass are much more interesting then this stranger.” On the balcony, although much is going on, George, once again, seems comfortable but not clamouring to get to the other relatives. He’s polite but like “I don’t know these people, so it’s best that I say nothing.”
There’s a DM article (with photo) of William on Ryanair (in “cattle class”), taken a few days after the news got out about him using a helicopter to fly to a Magna Carta event, which would have taken only 90 minutes by car.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3147840/Ryanheir-Prince-William-causes-stir-cattle-class-flying-budget-airline-Scotland-air-ambulance-training.html
Such a tacky stunt. Sooo tacky. Smh.
Funny how that comes out a month later. Smack in the middle of the furor about their tennis court, Wimbledon attendance, and her ducking commemoration events. Look, he flies Ryanair, he’s just like us.
Jason, we see you.
@ notasugarhere
Good point about the timing of when this Ryanair news hit.
Jason, you damn workaholic you.
Thanks for the link. Wm looks so aggrieved in that photo. And he’s looking directly at that dastardly pleb who deigned to snap a photo.
Anyone know how or why the DailyMail dared to print this photo? Wm’s lawyers bully everyone into giving up their democratic rights when it comes to public space, I am shocked the DM printed this.
@ MinnFinn
Like notasugarhere said, maybe it was planted by W’s people, like Jason and that the timing was deliberate.
I noticed that over at DM, the tennis court story came out first. Then the Ryanair story. I don’t know which event took place first in real life, but the sequence in which the two stories showed up on DM made me a bit suspicious.
OK, thanks, that makes sense. After my post it occurred to me that perhaps Wm negotiated a swap with the DM. Wm’s Ryanair photo not litigated if DM prints retraction and apology for claiming Carole moved into Anmer after Charlotte was born.
Correction. Magna Carta event was June 15th, and this flight was a couple days later. Hidden for two weeks instead of a month. Brought out to dispel the anger over the tennis court.
Both were published July 2. Tennis court at 08:38 EST, airplane at 18:03 EST.
Oh how I wish Kate Moss had been on that same flight!
LOL!!!!
Yes, tacky. And, as usual, the majority of commenters with their short memories are praising him for being so down-to-earth.
Why aren’t we looking at the hedge fund and private equity and Wall St gajillionaires who have done nothing but rip everyone else off and fire workers in the USA. What about all the fascist corporate types who expect workers to do two jobs so more profits drop to the bottom line? As long as the system of royalty is in place in the UK, these two get their allowance, have their inherited money, and get to do what they want. Fix up a tennis court. So what. An average middleclass home in the Hamptons has a little tennis court. Big deal.
Because these two combine celeb gossip and entitlement/borderline corruption? It’s a great combo for snarkery, which is why I am here!
(Not that I don’t hear you about the octopus arms and greed of the global financial elite, because I do).
Honestly, in my mind, as long as the system of royalty is in place in the UK, we will have excuses, built in for the 1%.
Skulking around the internet as I have, it does seem like the house and grounds were a bit dilapidated. Plus there’s no privacy ( I get the irony). They do need to put hedges in and that tennis court is clearly in a bad spot. Why not fix it up? Have you seen some of the homes of the rich and famous in this country? McMansions? These two do look pretty middle class in comparison.
Dilapidated? The house had a new $60,000 custom kitchen and was being happily lived in by the tenants until they were thrown out (excuse me, invited to leave) long before their lease was up.
The tennis court is being moved a third to the right and down a quarter. Basically it will be in the same spot but they’re trying to grab land over the property line.
Creeping over the land boundary to build an Astroturf court: So grabby, so tacky, so utterly vulgar.
They are extracting the urine.
Ditto with William in “cattle class.”
“They are extracting the urine.” LOL. 10 points for the Ravenclaw manner of speech.
Why, thank you (adjusts ghostly diadem) 😊
They really ARE taking the p*ss though, aren’t they? Pushing the boundaries of common sense, good taste, fiscal responsibility, and now, in this case, neighbourliness. What the dickens. They already have a perfectly good court. I just don’t understand the extravagance. And Astroturf, too. Ugh. It’s a bugger to fall on.
My lady of the loch, as a former hockey player, the memory of astro turf burns still makes me wince. Ouch.
LAK: Thankfully my only encounter with the horrid stuff was on a covered patio here in the U.S. when I went A over T at a rain-soaked children’s party. It tore the skin off the side of my kneecap and hurt like a bitch for days. I can’t even imagine the turf burns you must have endured. Why anyone would choose to have it installed is beyond me.
Lady of The Lomond/LAK
Turf is the worst!
My last HS had to have it installed due to area flooding and washed away turf.
It took bounce out of balls and seconds off track times. On top of horrible burns and picking bits of fragmented plastics and rubbers from your wounds.
That had to be so maddening, grrr. Isn’t it also quite a nasty germ collector? Natural grass has a way of aerating and cleansing itself with rain, drainage and whatnot, but that hideous fake stuff just sits there, stewing in a bacterial soup. Wonder what Charles thinks of it. He’s probably mortified that they didn’t take the eco, sustainable route.
Lady Loch: yes it is and yes Charles must be.
I started playing when grass was the standard and continued playing through to astro turf being the standard.
Apart from the astro burns, there was also the hazzard of faster balls which led to the rules of the game being changed to accommodate the suddenly hazardous play conditions.
Grass gave a natural bounce and brake which slowed the balls somewhat and necessitated phenomenal ball skills.
With astro turf, you might as well play football. A few well aimed hits on the ball and you can pass from one player to another at a considerable distance from each other without interference from opposing players. And we suddenly had to use more of the hockey stick rather than the curved end-hook because the ball was banned from leaving the ground so you essentially roll it along rather than hit it across to another player. No need to have any ball skills or even ability to tackle anyone. It ruined the game for me, BUT it unexpectedly helped my anger/stress management because hitting a ball hard on an astro turf is much more satisfying for getting any anger/stress out than it ever was on grass.
The other downside was that we couldn’t get out of games due to bad weather. I’ve played in semi-blizzard conditions, hard rain etc of astro turf.
LAK: I only played up until 3rd form and only ever on grass, but why on earth did they change the standard to Astroturf in the first place? I can only imagine it was to reduce maintenance overheads or something, but if it involved reinventing the game and turning it into essentially a bland PC version, then what utter pish. Tackling and hook shots were the best parts of the game. One more reason to hate Astroturf. It killed what was once a very fun sport. :/
These two are so tone deaf it would be laughable if it wasn’t at the expense of the tenant farmer and the rest of the UK citizenry.
I wish they wouldn’t parade their children around like prized puppies – i would rather see these two more than their kids. I want to see them do more for their charities and support The Queen and country. But no all we get are stories about them being lazy and spending money that’s not theirs.
For the various commemoration events coming up we won’t see them (maybe him but def not her) – she WILL show up at Wimbledon, probably at the final with her family. The recent paps picks and christening pics are damage control for that. They only seem to make an effort for events where HM will be. There’s nothing official for them over the next few months so if they do make an appearance at something it will be last min.
Their behaviour will bite not only themselves on the ass but the rest of the BRF as well.
I think that Carole is a secret Diana fan, if you study her passive-aggressiveness…
Why would one need cover for showing up at Wimbledon? She’s been going for years without much comment and she’s still within the maternity leave period that is typical in Britain. Tens of thousands of people are attending; I sincerely doubt her attendance is going to be a scandal.
You only get paid maternity leave in the UK if you work full-time for a year prior. She’s never worked full-time. Their chunk of royal security, all of office staff salaries, and majority of $4.6 million a year out of the Duchy counts as payment – for work she isn’t doing.
Every time they go to Wimbledon it causes comment. They go to Wimbledon but don’t do royal engagements. Last time around she wore a $1500 dress, you know, as you do. She was mocked on late night US television for her seal-like clapping. Guess that’s better than mean girling Federer’s wife with Pippa. Ah, such a fine representative for the UK people.
As seen here, it is causing comment. There are at least three remembrance or commemoration events next week. She is failing to attend any of them, because of “maternity leave”. But she has no trouble leaving the kids at home with the multiple nannies so she can go watch tennis.
When Tanna breaks and starts calling her “Katie Cambridge” and other reporters are mocking her on twitter, yep, that counts.
Her attendance won’t be a scandal. What’s becoming scandalous is her unavailability and obvious reluctance to attend anything other than fun, glamorous engagements. If she can attend Wimbledon, she can surely show her face at one of the handful of charities she signed up for. Not exactly rigorous work.
Kate is seriously tone deaf. No one is saying that she can’t attend the fun, glamorous events but she has to work a balanced portion of the serious engagements that she signed up for when she entered into the royal family. And she negates the maternity leave issue when she scrambles for tea with Angelina and attending Wimbledon, but can’t spend the commensurate amount of hours at a commemorative event. This selective attitude that she cultivates is more egregiously obvious whenever she attends the glitzy events and blows off the charitable and commemorative engagements. And the usual MO to detract from that is to flood the media with their best PR weapon, Prince George, and I’m sure Charlotte in the future. So predictable.
I really wish Kate would get rid of those hideous jeggings she seems to wear constantly – they look really rude (and crude), and she always seems to be fidgeting with them (like she is in the photo at the bottom – adjusting them presumably).
These two really get up my nose … along with constant stories about them, the Kardashians, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift and her cronies … it must surely be time for some new, interesting celebs???
I hope they keep this $hit up, maybe then mainstream society will finally figure out how vapid both William and Kate truly are.
Have you read Jason’s latest piece in the DM? Secretly Kate Middleton is the glue keeping the royal family together and she is the reason Camilla has finally been accepted into the fold. The Middletons graciously accept they must share their grandchildren and not be seen as the ‘lead’ grandparents. Oh, and Diana and Carole would have been best friends.
No wonder they need 27 office staff. Someone has to keep feeding Jason tums while he’s writing that stuff.
That is a weird article. You think Jason is behind it? It really did try to make Kate as the bridge of the two clans. I don’t know, it had some revealing points. Finally, it stated, “… the Duchess of Cornwall, whose relationship with William has never been particularly close.” As we had all guessed, but were told for years, ‘she makes Charles happy and that makes them happy.’ blah, blah, blah.
And it is puzzling that Kate would make a special attempt to become closer to Camilla now, unless its that old adage, ‘keep your friends close and your enemies closer.’ Would Kate, William & Carole feel that Camilla might sell stories on them? If Camilla spoke to the Sun’s editor weekly for 10 years dishing on Diana, maybe they feel they need to ‘be friendly.’? Why wouldn’t Kate try to be friendliest to Charles? Wish a royal correspondent would spill the real tea somewhere.
And it mentioned Michael Fawcett, “Prince Charles is said to be giving Charlotte a Georgian silver photo frame engraved with his insignia. Michael Fawcett, his right-hand man, is in charge of gifts…” hmmm, the one he could not do without?
Nota: Just picturing Jason with the Tums. That poor guy. He probably has a stress-induced ulcer from all the gibberish he has to spin on a daily basis.
Nota: “Last time around she wore a $1500 dress, you know, as you do.” Haha, love this. Seriously though, what galls me is her lack of humility and terrible conduct. She really ought to take pointers from old footage of the other royal Kate, HRH The Duchess of Kent, on how to conduct oneself at Wimbledon. Her mean-girling of Mirka Federer alongside Pippa was the nadir of the whole 2012 tournament, imo.
Feeshalori: I totally agree. Balance is key – and she so obviously lacks any sense of it.
Twinkle: Of course, she isn’t supposed to be parading around like a “sleb” at this (or any) event. She is a paid representative of the monarchy whenever she appears at a public and heavily televised event.
As for the Jeggings of Doom: I suppose what she wears privately is her own business, but she’s worn them countless times to public engagements and either didn’t get the memo or, more likely, just doesn’t give a toss about the memo regarding how chavvy they are.
Whats the story of her mean girling Mirka Fereder? Haven’t heard of this? Mirka would have had those 2 for a snack.
Betti
There were many photos and videos of Kate and Pippa looking like the 2 cranky/snarky muppets at the opera always talking poorly of others. The announcers and cameras were all over his adorbale family. Some lip readers (take salt now) said Kate and pippa were mocking his wife. It was hardly a stretch to look at their faces, body language and proper context to assume it’s mean girling with dirty glares.
“The 2 cranky/snarky muppets at the opera house…” Ooh, that is exquisite. A perfect description. 😂
Thanks Florc. Not surprised – i’ve always gotten a mean girl vibe from both of them, I guess you are a target for them if you are not anorexic thin wearing the latest ‘borrowed’ designer dress. At least Mirka has a career of her own, unlike some who sponge of others.
Kate revels with the fame and money that comes with her status – why it was in todays DM that part of the Crown Jewels are leaving London (for the first time) ever for the christening of Princess Charlotte at Sandringham – Willy was not behind this. Kate’s pulling the strings here – girl knows how to play Willy.
Vava: I think mainstream society is finally catching on to Kate’s Marie Antoinette tendencies, especially now with the anti-austerity marches taking place. Silly girl could easily rehab her image within a couple of months with some honest-to-goodness work, but she seemingly refuses to co-operate. The jig is almost up. Tick-tock. I keep wondering when the Queen will do something.
That second picture cracks me up. It looks like Charles is pinching Kate’s boob; Kate’s like, “meh, whatever,” but George thoroughly disapproves.
Hmm, maybe Kate’ll make the tennis court beige to go with all her interior decoration? Tell me there’s a swingset or a sandbox for the kids to play in? Or a basketball hoop? If you’re putting in stuff for the kids, that’s what they really want.
Well, Kate has found time for this. She can find time for other things. Things she should be making a priority are not. More so if these renovations are never ending.
I don’t think money has any true value to them. It’s like air. You want it? It’s there for you. No thought to were it comes from or if another has to go without so you can have more.
Wasn’t it always thus for the pair of them? They have no sense of value and its relation to other people’s hard work or sacrifices, never having done, or made, any themselves.
LOTL
True. It’s a lesson some never learn and others have, but don’t hold on to. Humility, struggle, sacrifice. All things people can claim, but in relative terms. To sacrifice a few yards off your tennis court because someone wants to use the land… Sacrific… oh wait.
LAK
That’s well put. The clever ways royalty are packaged and sold some times. And how the people eat it up.
This is what I always say about royal families, and BRF in particular especially why the inlaws go red carpet fever crazy. It’s not the money, it’s the ability to have whatever you want, meet whomever you want, do whatever you want without consequences or any thought to how it was provided or inconvenience to others.
It’s a level of spoiling that billionaires don’t have because their access comes at cost. With royals, they don’t have to prove anything to anyone, and yet they are all treated like special unicorns who must be indulged at all costs.
Thank goodness the press is here to knock em down, but even then, they still maintain their ways behind closed doors.
It takes a huge strength of character to overcome and or not succumb to it.
Basically speaking, things come too easy for them and they take full advantage of that.
I said this on Love Lola but I think they are freezing her out!
