Republican Angie Harmon tired of ‘racist’ label for criticizing Obama

Angie Harmon
Angie Harmon has been one of the most vocal Republicans in Hollywood for years. The Texan beauty, most famous for her turn as a prosecutor on Law & Order, has actively campaigned for Republicans and has often spoken out of Republican issues. No one really bothered her about it, as far as I could see. Throughout the years Harmon has often talked disparagingly of liberals in Hollywood.

Now Harmon is criticizing both President Obama and the people who defend him. Harmon claims that “If I have anything to say against Obama it’s not because I’m a racist, it’s because I don’t like what he’s doing as President and anybody should be able to feel that way, but what I find now is that if you say anything against him you’re called a racist.” She has a point, albeit a point in which she creates a straw man argument. Who is calling Harmon a racist again? She’s pretty vague about it. Fox News has more:

Angie Harmon is not afraid to come out and say she doesn’t like how President Obama is handling the job — but she’s sick of having to defend herself from being deemed a racist.

“Here’s my problem with this, I’m just going to come out and say it. If I have anything to say against Obama it’s not because I’m a racist, it’s because I don’t like what he’s doing as President and anybody should be able to feel that way, but what I find now is that if you say anything against him you’re called a racist,” Harmon told Tarts at Thursday’s Los Angeles launch of the new eyelash-growing formula, Latisse.

“But it has nothing to do with it, I don’t care what color he is. I’m just not crazy about what he’s doing and I heard all about this, and he’s gonna do that and change and change, so okay … I’m still dressing for a recession over here buddy and we’ve got unemployment at an all-time high and that was his number one thing and that’s the thing I really don’t appreciate. If I’m going to disagree with my President, that doesn’t make me a racist. If I was to disagree with W, that doesn’t make me racist. It has nothing to do with it, it is ridiculous.”

Speaking of dislikes, the starlet has also had enough of the double-standards in the media.

“I do think McCain would have done a better job, only because I think he has more experience. I also think if W or John McCain or Reagan would have gone and done a talk show, the backlash would have been so huge and in his face, and ‘What is our president doing? How unclassy!’ But Obama does it and no one says anything,” Harmon said.

And in spite of the scornful opinions most of her Tinseltown counterparts have shared on Gov. Sarah Palin, Harmon remains a true fan.

“I admire any kind of woman like her. My whole motto is to know what I stand for and know what I don’t stand for and have the courage to live my life accordingly and she does exactly that. The fact that this woman has made the decisions she’s made and literally lived her life according to that and takes heat for it is absolutely disgusting to me,” she added. “People cannot look at this woman. I really think they’re afraid of her and her morals, ethics and values and the fact that she hangs on them. Is she the most experienced person in the world? But she was running to be the Vice President, so we then put the most inexperienced person as the President. That didn’t make any sense to me.”

From Fox News

It’s clear that Angie Harmon genuinely felt like she was being personally attacked as a racist for her political beliefs. And for that, as someone who vocally supported Obama, I will apologize. It felt horrible for many of us supporting Obama to see the sleazy ways in which some people attacked Obama for his race, his religion, his family and his patriotism. Collectively, I think we were seeing racists and bigots around every corner, when it wasn’t always the case. So for the record, some people who criticize Obama for race-specific things (and you know what they are) are racists, but most of Obama’s critics do not have a racist bone in their bodies.

“I’m still dressing for a recession over here buddy and we’ve got unemployment at an all-time high and that was his number one thing and that’s the thing I really don’t appreciate.”

i’m confused by this statement, is she saying that obama is to blame for the recession and unemployment? because this existed before he took office

  2. lena says:

oh and she’s right, she shouldn’t be called a racist if she disagrees with his politics

  3. Annie says:

I think it’s sometimes becomes hard to distinguish when someone is driven by purely political views and not a combination of that plus bigotry and racism. I think a lot of it is because it did tend to go hand in hand, what with people carrying around Curious George dolls with Obama name tags on them.

But we should be better than those kinds of people and not make assumptions. And not stoop to that level.

    I will say this,

Afraid of her morals? You mean the one she touts as the supreme ones, and yet doesn’t clearly raise her kids on that? Or the are we talking about a different set of morals?

  4. Kaiser says:

Amen, Annie. That was a great way to say it – “it sometimes becomes hard to distinguish when someone is driven by purely political views and not a combination of that plus bigotry and racism. I think a lot of it is because it did tend to go hand in hand, what with people carrying around Curious George dolls with Obama name tags on them.”

    Exactly.

  5. Annie says:

I was also confused by that statement Lena.

I’m also inclined to say that I really doubt she’s getting hit by the recession as hard as the rest of us, she sounds so personally wronged. lol

    • Shel says:

I get what you’re saying. She’s obviously not getting hit by the recession as hard as most of America, but I think, like many Americans today, she feels like Obama said he would change things, he didn’t. (Surprise surprise, politicians will say anything to get a vote…) But he also said it would take more than four years. Of course it will, this Country has taken years of abuse, and healing takes time. What I love about her is that she always says that ‘we are Americans before we’re democrats or republicans or anything else.’ That’s so true. Everyone has their own opinions and their own idea of how this world should be. But ultimately, we share the world with each other, so we should try to at least find the middle ground where we’re not putting each other down because of our views. I grew up as the kind of person who thinks I should be able to believe what I believe and you should be able to do the same, and I am only blessed to be able to think that way, and live that way because I live in America. I don’t agree with a lot of peoples politics, and I don’t always agree with Obama; but I do think that being the President is probably the hardest job in America, and he’s doing the best he can do. For some people, his best isn’t good enough, for others it is, and although we don’t have to agree with each other, we should be able to listen to, and tolerate each other. As human beings and as Americans, we are so ready to help other countries and people who are in need, but look at us; we are in need, and we need to help each other. That’s just my opinion. 🙂

      • brokerwritergrl says:

4.5 million jobs…and he added much needed regulation to banking…just because it isn’t like instant oatmeal doesn’t make him less successful

  6. Orangejulius says:

She’s an idiot. Okay, she does have a valid point about any criticism of Obama being labeled racism, but she lost me when she started defending Sarah, Wicked Witch of Wasilla Palin. And she really thinks McCain would have done a better job? Really? Running for cover now….

  7. geronimo says:

“If I’m going to disagree with my President, that doesn’t make me a racist. If I was to disagree with W, that doesn’t make me racist.”

As with Lena’s point, the above statement is also dumber than a box of rocks. And yes, I understand what it is she’s trying to say but if she wants people to take her point seriously (and it is a serious point), then she needs to stop with the lame attention-grabbing soundbites and adopt a more measured, articulate approach.

  8. tinat says:

    Racist, no…stupid, oh yeah.

Come on dressing for a recession? How exactly do you do that? I’ve not seen her in sack cloth or anything, LOL.
Obamas been in office 100 days and although Rush called him a “magic negro” he can’t just wave a magic wand and make 8 years of crap disappear!

  9. geronimo says:

And I don’t know anything at all about her apart from the above but I’m getting an Ann Coulter vibe. Never a good thing.

  10. anneesezz says:

Wow, what an idiot. I hate when people say things like “if W or McCain had done that, people would have been up in arms, blah blah blah..” How does she know? She would benefit from watching something other than Fox News occasionally.

  11. Liz Conley says:

EXACTLY AS SHE WAS SAYING…a bunch of Osama Obama lovers calling her Names! I agree with Angie- in the fact that going in and deciding Socialism is the way to pull us out of a recession is WRONG! I don’t think Obama is cut out for the job! Nor do I feel he’s done a good job thus far- well he has of spending other people’s money… I guess that makes me a racist too? You all are such HYPOCRITS

  12. neelyo says:

Who’s even bothering to talk to her? Does she have something to promote besides stupidity? And who’s been calling her a racist? Sorry so many questions.

  13. philo says:

One day we’ll be able to readily recognise that the divisions in this world are more to do with mindsets and attitudes than with race, and raise our game accordingly.

That aside, judging by her above statements on “dressing for a recession”, John McCain and Ms Palin, I’d say Angie is not particlularly bright.

  14. rbsesq says:

Lena, I think she is implying that in the not yet three months President Obama has been in office, that he should have been able to miraculously fix an economy that it tooks years of work to screw up.

  15. barneslr says:

“I think a lot of it is because it did tend to go hand in hand”

That’s illogical. So now we aren’t allowed to dislike or disagree with him, and if we do we are automatically racist? That is not just illogical. It’s absolutely idiotic.

And I never once heard about the Curious George dolls you mentioned. But I do recall some nasty, small minded morons referring to our former president George W Bush as a “chimp.”

Get over it. The only ones who care about Obama’s color are the democrats, so they can use the word racism as a weapon against anyone who dares to not worship at his feet.

    Stupid. Just plain stupid.

  16. Autumm Leaves says:

****Looks like I’ll be passing on her future projects as well as my beloved L&O reruns. She has lost me as a fan. What a raging fool. She didn’t have to “qualify” her criticism of Obama as “not being a racist” for disagreeing with his policies. That always raises my red flag. To sit there with righteous indignation and praise unqualified Palin and out of touch McCain for doing a better job speaks volumes of her intellect and her rationale. Where in the world was all this criticism for Bush when he was running this country into the ground? When McCain reaccted so poorly to the economic meltdown? OUTRAGEOUS.

Harmon sounds like she’s more pissed that she’s going to be highly taxed due to her tax bracket. What a grade A fool. Sounds unpatriotic to me.

These Republicans are the whiniest bunch of people I’ve ever had the misfortune of listening to. They can’t even lead when called to much less govern when need to.

  17. JennaMeow says:

Angie lives here in my town — Dallas –and I’ve run into her shopping, and she’s very unpretentious and normal.

I know exactly what she’s talking about, because I, too, voted for McCain and get blasted by some of my acquaintances when I criticize Obama. I think it’s an easy, brainless and cheap argument to call someone who doesn’t like Obama a racist. It’s a knee-jerk reaction.

I can assure you, if Obama were politically akin to Rudy Guiliani, I’d be the first one cheering him on, regardless of color. I simply don’t like his politics, and I think that might be Angie’s point.

  18. barneslr says:

“miraculously fix an economy that it tooks years of work to screw up.”

Um, no. I know a just 3 years ago I paying $1.29 for gas, for example. The economy was fine, other than the normal ups and downs that one is to expect. It didn’t “take years to screw up.” The economy didn’t actually start to seriously tank until recently…interestingly right around the time Obama won the election…

So, yes, he is to blame for a lot of it, and he is absolutely to blame for the incredibly bone-headed economic decisions he has been making.

We really need a do-over. Electing him was a mistake and we shouldn’t have to suffer for 4 years just so you can all feel good about having a black president. I am far more interested in having a COMPETENT president, regardless of his color.

  19. Smith says:

Who really cares what Angie Harmon thinks or says other than perhaps Jason Sehorn. Go back to your life of privilege and complain to the wall.

  20. mail mail says:

Angie Harmon may not be a racist but she certainly appears to be an elitist. She grew up in the richest part of Dallas, still lives there, and has an issue with Obama. Well, most conservatives (those who have something to conserve in the first place) have understanding issues with those who don’t and political positions in support of anyone but elitists. If anything she should have a problem with George Bush and the Republicans who created the current economic crisis around the world. Futher invalidating her argument against Obama is the fact that she admires Sarah Palin, who showed herself to have about as much intelligence as a 7th grader throught the campaign. Angie should keep quiet and hide on TNT or in the bubble she’s from in Dallas because her argument about Obama fails in every respect.

  21. Tia says:

what an uneducated creepy person.. ick !!

  22. Dan says:

Most of you are totally right! George Bush is Hitler and Obama is a Lincoln/Washington/Jesus hybrid above ANY scrutiny. Angie Harmon hates America plain and simple.

  23. mel says:

Yeah who cares what Angie Harmon has to say, she’s a has been. I am a Obama supporter however, I don’t agree with everything he says or does. But there people out there who cant stand the fact that our president is an African American and they definitely speaking there minds about it sometimes in an indirect way like the editor from the NY post. WE put with Bush and the Republicans’s bs for 8 years so shut the hell up!

  24. hmm says:

Why did she feel the need to preface her statement by saying she’s not a racist? Most people are intelligent enough to understand that some people may have philosphical and policy differences with Obama that have nothing to do with race, but some people are opposed to him because he’s black. It is somewhat hypocritical that she is making a statement defending herself about voting the way she did, yet feels the need to take people to task for not voting for Palin.

I also find it hilarious that she remained a Bushie for eight years as he helped destroy our economy and now she is unwilling to give the new President any time to fix it (don’t worry Angie, I’m sure that you’re now a hero to the wingnuts.)

And barneslr who posted about not seeing the monkey dolls at McCain/Palin rallies or (I assume) the Obama Waffles or any of the other things the bigots at the rallies said or did, you can go to youtube and see for yourself before you dismiss it like it didn’t happen.

  25. HashBrowns says:

She’s a Class A moron. No one is calling her a racist. She’s saying this so she can get attention.

@barneslr: If you don’t know why calling a George Bush a chimp and calling Obama a chimp aren’t the same thing, then you need to step out of your little white bubble and learn about the history of black people in this country.

And Annie said “a lot of it” not ALL of it. A lot of the time when I saw people criticizing Obama, they were calling him the n-word, a monkey, a chimp; saying he’d grow a watermelon patch at the White House, he was a Muslim (?) as though that was a bad thing (even though he isn’t) and various other things. I’ve seen t-shirts with his name and “Don’t vote the (n-word) in”.

Not ALL people who oppose his politics are racist, clearly. But there is quite a big group of Americans who are racist and do oppose him just because he’s black.

And the economy has been marching toward collapse for YEARS. Gas prices had nothing to do with it. It was the housing market collapse and bad business practices and Ponzi schemes that screwed up Wall Street and all that. It took years of them doing things that were completely legal to screw all of us.

That said, I don’t think Angie Harmon is a racist, I just think she’s an idiot.

  26. daisy424 says:

@JennaMeow, I agree, it has happened to me also, sometimes from people on this very website.

@barneslr; agree about economics in the past three years. Could it have anything to do with the Dem. majority and the housing bubble? Freddie & Fannie anyone?

  27. Good luck says:

Obviously you cant state your opinion unless it is the one that the liberals spout. You are proving her point. Im out.

  28. Annie says:

That’s not an illogical statement at all, perhaps I should hand you a dictionary so you can look up what “illogical” means before you start tossing it around.

Simply because YOU chose to not see that kind of propaganda and protesting, does not mean that it did not exist. Are you going to tell me that him being likened to Osama by Republicans was all in our heads too? Youtube is your friend. Go look up any number of Republican rallies.

Barnes, obviously we’re not in the same economy and obviously you don’t keep up with a lot of the economics and politics that have been happening these past 8 years, other than of course, seeing how high your gasoline went. What a great gauge on how well our economy is doing! Economy is based on gasoline prices! Of course! And here I thought it was so much more complex than that. *snorts*

    Please.

And note: It’s not always an extreme. I don’t think Bush was the anti-christ. And I don’t think Obama is the Messiah.

What I do think is there were a lot of mistakes that were made during Bush’s term. (several trillion dollars dumped into a useless war, throwing the U.S. trillions and trillions of dollars in debt, allowing large companies to go completely unregulated with no checks on any of their behavior, because hi, SEC? Please.) And that Obama’s got a hefty load on his hands. Has he made all the perfect choices thus far? No. But it hasn’t even been 100 days in. You want him to magically turn this ship around from sinking in 1/10th of the time it took to mess it up in the first place?

How can we know his plans have failed? They’ve barely begun!

I’m just glad to finally have some transparency! At least he’s telling us what he’s doing, instead of TAPPING OUR PHONES AND LABELING ANY RANDOM JOE AS “ENEMY COMBATANTS” You complain about a stimulus, but you were ok with the Patriot Act? One of the largest government infringements on our rights to date? Brava.

  29. Annie says:

Oh. And as for getting jumped on for voting McCain. That’s a shame.

My whole stance on anything is, if you can justify why you voted as you did, then I’m ok with that. My issue was with people who voted for McCain but then couldn’t back it up other than being able to say, oh well, he’s been around a long time. Ok, but what of his policies do you like? What of his views? And oftentimes, I’d get responses like, “I just can’t vote for a black guy.” Or it becomes this partisan issue. “Oh the dems! They f’ed things up”.

You’re gonna vote a certain way, be prepared to back it up. I can back up why I voted a certain way. And I was always curious to hear people’s justifications for their votes.

  30. neelyo says:

‘I can assure you, if Obama were politically akin to Rudy Guiliani, I’d be the first one cheering him on, regardless of color.’

JennaMeow, you’re obviously not from NYC, because if you were, I don’t think you’d be touting the politics of Rudy Ghouliani. You Texans can have the Mayor of 9-11.

  31. Clay says:

I do not understand all of the hatred being spewed by so many. It is obvious that the majority of comments come from Liberals who have always called themselves the “tolerant” ones. So I assume tolerant as long as everyone agrees with your point of view?
The comments about Sarah Palin also seem a bit harsh. She may not be the smartest woman alive, but the outright hatred for her is a bit scary….I mean why to you HATE her? I certainly didn’t vote for Mr. Obama, but I don’t hate him. I think this country is filled with WAY TOO MUCH hatred for others! Angie Harmon may not like President Obama, but says so respectfully, not fillng her statement with any derogatory comments. Many should take a lesson from her.

  32. Not A Fan of Republicans says:

I’m so tired of seeing people treat President Obama as a second class citizen. It’s just outrageous how he’s blamed for this recession & economy when he’s been in office less than 3 months!! Please!! President Bush screwed this country over big time and left through the back door without so much as an apology to the American People .. while President Obama has taken heaps of crap for Bush’s mistakes and now gets to unravel it all!!
I liked Angie Harmon .. I liked other people who were republicans but lets just call a spade a spade here .. she dislikes him for his race .. not for any other reason .. how can you not like a man’s policies when he hasn’t been in office long enough to make good on any of them.

  33. connie says:

i am going to have to agree with her on the talk show comment though. as someone who was excited to see Obama’s election to president I have grown tired of the sensationalism and celebrity surrounding him. He is the president and while I think his election to office is an important turning point in our history and shows how far the nation has come, i think the idolization should be saved for later. Possibly after he has proved himself as a great leader rather than just the first black man in office? Just because he has a lot of celebrity supporters that does not make him one, he is a political figure and I personally feel that more time should be devoted to his agenda than PR

  34. connie says:

and not a fan of republicans- this recession and economy is not primarily the fault of W, it is multi-faceted… though anyone thinking things were going to magically change once Obama took office can only blame themselves

  35. Natasha says:

“I think this country is filled with WAY TOO MUCH hatred for others!”

I agree Clay, and I think it’s disgusting.

  36. Melinda says:

    YOU GO, ANGIE !

Say what you mean like it is. I’m proud of you for saying what you believe in. Don’t let those other people try to take jabs at you. Your too smart for that.

I respect you so much better for standing up for what you believe in unless its opposite of what I believe in. ;o)

Prez Obama is doing some very strange things right now and everyone is questioning his motives. Why wouldn’t you? Its a human nature thing to question socialism and the devaluing of our dollar. I’m scared to dead of his motives.

Angie, keep up the good work and God Bless everyone in the U.S. I want us all to succeed but to do that we need someone leading us in the right direction. What direction is this?

  37. Suzann says:

Wow – Obama being treated like a “second-class citizen” – REALLY? I am amazed – the Messiah has no experience, questionable acquaintances and issues he NEVER cleared up, has spent more on his inauguration parties than any other president, weekly open house parties, etc., can’t speak publicly without a tele-prompter EVER, he is the equivalent of a good actor pretending to be president. As far as Angie goes, why is she not allowed to speak her mind? All the other left-wing Hollywood idiots don’t get called out unless they support someone other than Obama – I think Obama has been rolled out the red carpet in every way – sure he has been in office only a short while but is already backpeddling and makes no sense of what his clear actions are going to be – the last 8 years was also inherited from the previous President/Playboy, so think that one over while you hurl accusations at W, Angie and whoever else does not agree with Liberal Left and Media.

  38. Codzilla says:

Not a Fan: A second class citizen? You’re joking, right? The man has been deified the world over. And you do recall a time before the election when the candidates where outlining their policies to court votes, right? Meaning, Obama’s opinions and proposed courses of action have been public for far longer than his stint in the Oval Office. So the suggestion that people who disagree with Obama’s proposals (whether he’s put them to action yet or not) are all racist because they haven’t had enough time to weigh his policies is ridiculous.

I also find it interesting that nobody’s bothered to address Daisy’s very important point about the Democratic majority during the Bush Administration. A little too inconvenient, I suppose.

  39. daisy424 says:

“I liked Angie Harmon .. I liked other people who were republicans but lets just call a spade a spade here .. she dislikes him for his race .. not for any other reason. how can you not like a man’s policies when he hasn’t been in office long enough to make good on any of them.”

You just proved her point by writing that, she didn’t have to lift a finger.

Could it be that she feels that his plans for the country is not what she wanted or agreed with? Or it could be his voting record in the state and US senate? Or his length of experience? Why does it have to do with his race????

She obviously formed her opinion before Election Day, not wholly based on what he has done in office so far, like you are saying.
Disagreeing with her doesn’t make your opinion right, it makes your opinion different.

  40. Texas Gal says:

    @ mail mail
My thoughts exactly & I was wondering why no one had brought it up. Like many others said, she has a valid point to a certain degree but she lost me when she started talking about Sarah Palin.

  41. bros says:

this texas redneck in designer clothing said all this at the launch of latrisse, the eyelash-growing cosmeceutical product.

    enough said.

  42. Cinderella says:

Doesn’t she have a party in some bathroom to attend?

  43. stellapurdy says:

In a nut shell I don’t think either the republicans or the democrats have any room to bitch about the mess we’re currently in as both parties had a hand in it. However I do think that Obama should be afforded some time to right the ship.

And if Harmon is looking for sympathy because she is feeling the effects of the recession I’m sorry she’s not going to get it from me.

And one last thing, the use of the word Messiah to describe Pres Obama or complaining about the “liberal media” shows your true Rush Limbaugh colors. Last I knew 99% of talk radio and all of the Fox outlets have conservative agenda, not to mention a number of the newspapers in publication. You really need to stop repeating the Hannity/Beck/Limbaugh soundbites because it makes all of you sound like idiots.

  44. HashBrowns says:

Obama has not been deified at all. He’s popular, for sure. I guess people aren’t used to having a popular president. There are some people who think he’s the second coming. There are some people who think he’s a dillweed.

However, those two extremes are just that. There are always fringe groups who despise or deify and they are usually the loudest so you hear them more than the vast majority of us who are moderate.

Don’t only watch Fox News. Don’t only watch MSNBC. Don’t only watch CNN. Watch as much as you can and use your BRAIN to sift through the nonsense. Use your critical thinking skills, which most people don’t do.

Angie Harmon seems like, from her comments, an Ann Coulter/Elizabeth Hasselbeck type. She says stuff to get attention whether she really believes it or not.

There is nothing wrong with her having her opinion. It just seems really ill-informed and malformed. She’s spouting the same GOP nonsense that they’ve been trying to stick to Obama since the primaries. It didn’t work then and it’s not working now.

And honestly I can’t take anyone seriously who thinks Sarah Palin would have been a good Vice President.

McCain is a good man, a genuinely good guy but he lost. Now leave it and try to understand the new policies and get behind the ones you agree with and respectfully disagree with the ones you don’t.

Complaining about being called a racist now is pointless. Don’t phrase your disagreements as racist and you won’t be seen as a racist. It’s as simple as that.

  45. Mme X says:

well, I suppose this is one way for her to make news, right?

  46. JennaMeow says:

    Neelyo:

JennaMeow, you’re obviously not from NYC, because if you were, I don’t think you’d be touting the politics of Rudy Ghouliani. You Texans can have the Mayor of 9-11.

    ++++++++++

No, Neelyo, I’m just a backward hickernut from Texas. You’re right! I’m not from NY. I did, however, go to grad school on the east coast — in Massachusetts, actually — can I skate by on a technicality there?

Buddy, I’d take Rudy Giuliani anyday over Obama. And probably over McCain for that matter. He obviously wasn’t too hated in NYC because he was, you know, elected.

It’s interesting how much liberals freak out when one tiny celebrity isn’t fawning all over Obama. There are many, many more like her — and not just with us here hillbillies in Texas! — and you’ll see that for certain with the elections in 2010.

  47. lisa says:

If she doesn’t want people to jump the gun and paste a label on her, then she needs to keep her political opinions to a minimum. Everyone is entitled to their political opinion whether you like Obama or not, but there are consequences when you are famous, it brings out all sorts of critics, good and bad. She needs to learn that.

  48. Giz says:

I’m actually sick of the liberal vs right wing and vice-versa. Apparently, there is no middle in this country as both would have us believe. I’m actually sick of both.

Having said this the question, would someone else like Hillary Clinton or McCain be taking the same beating over the state of the economy and the fact a remedy been concocted in 3 months? Would they? It didn’t exactly take 3 months for the country to get into this horrendous economic situation. Why is Obama expected to have this fixed already? I wouldn’t expect anyone else to have it done either! Anyone who would believe that Sarah Palin would have had the economy back in “working order” should have their voting rights revoked.

This economy is not like the internet, where you download a fix and voila the economy is fixed. What the frick is wrong with people?

  49. daisyfly says:

Wow. Harsh words from both sides here. It’s pretty sad that a lot of them come from emotions based on naivete and ignorance, rather than facts and justified reasoning.

Obama is a new president. He’s inherited a broken economy from a two term president who had neither the inclination, nor the know-how to maintain the nation’s prosperity as he had inherited in 2001.

It took him six years of ruling, wars, and various political, religious, ethical, moral, and social gaffes to turn a prosperous country into a floundering one, and anyone who expects Obama – Democrat, Republican, Independent alike – to reverse all of that in his first 100 days, or his term, IS an idiot.

Barnes, the country has been in a recession since 2007. If you’re going to blame that fact on Obama simply ANNOUNCING his intent to run then obviously the problem isn’t with Obama but with you and those whom agree with you.

Also, the Democrats have held a majority in the House and Senate, true, but never one that could override a VETO, and since the President was a Republican, any policy pushed forth by the House and Senate was moot, so please try to direct the scapegoating elsewhere, TYVM.

As for people calling others “racist” because they happen to not have voted for Obama, that’s a personal issue that the individual has to deal with. The majority of Obama supporters felt no such thing, and in fact strove to fight against such ignorant and juvenile tactics, myself included. The jabs were thrown from both sides, with the occasional individuals doing stupid things, like carving backwards Bs into their faces, but at the end of the day, common sense won out.

At least, I hope it did.

  50. Giz says:

And another thing, ANYONE who tells you they aren’t a bigot or racist is full of s***. We all harbor certain bias’ towards other people. It’s human nature!

  51. czarina says:

I agree that it is crazy to set up a situation where you cannot disagree with a politician–the president of your own country–for fear of being labelled a racist.
However, in this case, the problem with Harmon’s criticism is not the suggestion that it’s because the man is black…or even because he has only been in office for 3 months.
It is the deliberately obtuse refusal to acknowledge that George Bush and the Republicans caused this recession, NOT because of the collapse of the housing market, but because they staged a war that cost the American public billions of dollars while at the same time refusing to raise taxes to pay for it and even signing in the new medicare for seniors (also costing billions of dollars).
When you spend, spend, spend billions and (to keep people happy) refuse to raise taxes to pay for it, you create a situation where the country no longer has the resources to handle it when the economy takes a huge hit.
This causes the country to spiral down further and further in a recession that also effects the rest of the world.
Moreover, now that Bush is out of office, he has left the new administration in the terrible position of dealing with the grim reality of the economic disaster he created.
It will be Obama who will have to raise taxes; Obama who will have to be President during a recession.
How exactly does Harmon think McCain would have handled things differently?
Would he, like his predecessor stubbornly refuse to acknowledge basic reality, which is that you cannot spend money on credit without increasing your income?
We wonder why Wall Street and the Auto companies have no concept of fiscal responsibility…where do you think they learned it? For the past 8 years, right from the White House.

  52. me says:

The most ingenious marketing campaign is from FOX NEWS; “Fair and Balance”. What a big lie. Fox News is a bias as any other news outlet. If they are so balanced, why are they known as a right leaning organization.

  53. J-Lin says:

To all those remembering the glory of those Repulican days, all I need to say is I vote for Barack and I won.

There’s a saying that goes a hit dog barks the loudest. Just because someone disagrees with Barack doesn’t make them a racist. Sounds like Angie has some guilt. Is there a white hood banging in the back of her closet?

Barack is the President. Feel free to disagree, but don’t give me that crap around W and Palin. Silly dance moves and all the winks in the world aren’t going to get us out of this mess.

  54. lrm says:

I cannot even read all of these comments-but I will say: you’re all hilarious if you don’t realize that both parties are controlled via one body: the CFR [council of foreign relations;formerly trilateral commision-look them up;Michele Obama is a member, and Angeliina Jolie has a 5 yr membership,as well.]They ‘guide’policy for the USA. And all the while, letting people think they have a say. ALL candidates for prez are CFR members. If not, they get media blacklisted and/or not covered, regardless of their actual support. This is researchable. So it’s absolutely hysterical that you sit around discussing like you’re on opposite sides of the table. It’s like your mom telling you,you can have grape or strawberry jelly,,but by all means, you are having a pb and j,and she is making it for you. Yet,somehow, you still think you are so free and have a big ole’ choice!

    Nicely done,people.
I’m sure you are not interested in moving past the bipartisan gimmick drama, though.
That said, yes, socialism has been the plan all along…ALL ALONG. Wonder why Obama [btw,it’s not really his decision] isn’t as interested in the autos as the banks? Of course, federal ownership of banks is so much more important in a socialist government than owning the auto industry.

And don’t even get me started on the GW people. Neocon my a*s….Neo-socialist. But as long as we have ‘con’ in there, they’ll think it means conservative, instead of just con job.

I feel kinda sorry for people over the age of 20 who have been snowed by the Obama revolution. I mean, hell,i voted for clinton twice, but i was 22 and 26 yrs old…and hadn’t lived through that type of cycle before.
The writing was SO on the wall with Obama though. I seriously couldn’t believe people were buying it,just like others bought GW,after 8 yrs of his father. [His FREAKIN’ FATHER,people!!! Does anyone else think it’s odd that they are all related? Clinton,Bush,,and obama and cheney are cousins???? I just find this so odd-and not in a ‘we’re all related as humanity way-no,but w/in the last several generations, they are cousins. It’s practically royalty,a monarchy, you know?]
It’s just embarassing that people are unwilling to even consider this.

Okay, but one thing that is fantastic is that Obama is black. er,well,50% black.
Becuz now that excuse can no longer be used,by democratis, social welfare programs, anyone…we can finally move on!!! yea,moveon.org, take that!!!

  55. genevieve says:

To Barnesir– “The economy didn’t actually start to seriously tank until recently…interestingly right around the time Obama won the election…”

And how exactly was Obama to blame for a tanking economy in November, when he didn’t step up to the presidency until January, exactly?

Seriously, it doesn’t take a genius to realize that changes in the economic climate take years- decades even!- to come to fruition. If you want to blame anything, blame the government that allowed so many large corporation to avoid regulation. Blame the CEOs who led their companies into the red while lining their pockets with fat bonuses. Blame the government that heaped the brunt of the nation’s expenses onto the backs of middle and lower class working Americans instead of the very few (and exceedingly rich) who make their billions from the masses, and aren’t even held accountable for the same percentage of their incomes as those of us who earn honest wages!

There’s a lot of potential for blame in this kind of economic crisis. Blaming the man who took office after the beginnings of an economic crash is hardly sensible.

  56. Trillion says:

I’ve never heard any liberal make any claim that Obama was a miracle-worker (although we could surely use one after the gigantic mess that even you conservatives cannot deny his predecessor left) nor have I ever heard any liberal accuse anyone who disagrees with Obama of racism. I’m a liberal, who hangs out in liberal circles. I’d hear that stuff if it were really happening. It’s projection from conservative media outlets. How sad that it’s actually an effective tactic. Repeat something enough times and it becomes the truth. (e.g. Hannity’s “Obama Recession”. Who buys this garbage?)

  57. daisy424 says:

    From Factcheck;
So who is to blame? There’s plenty of blame to go around, and it doesn’t fasten only on one party or even mainly on what Washington did or didn’t do. As The Economist magazine noted recently, the problem is one of “layered irresponsibility … with hard-working homeowners and billionaire villains each playing a role.” Here’s a partial list of those alleged to be at fault:

The Federal Reserve, which slashed interest rates after the dot-com bubble burst, making credit cheap.

Home buyers, who took advantage of easy credit to bid up the prices of homes excessively.

Congress, which continues to support a mortgage tax deduction that gives consumers a tax incentive to buy more expensive houses.

Real estate agents, most of whom work for the sellers rather than the buyers and who earned higher commissions from selling more expensive homes.

The Clinton administration, which pushed for less stringent credit and downpayment requirements for working- and middle-class families.

Mortgage brokers, who offered less-credit-worthy home buyers subprime, adjustable rate loans with low initial payments, but exploding interest rates.

Former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, who in 2004, near the peak of the housing bubble, encouraged Americans to take out adjustable rate mortgages.

Wall Street firms, who paid too little attention to the quality of the risky loans that they bundled into Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS), and issued bonds using those securities as collateral.

The Bush administration, which failed to provide needed government oversight of the increasingly dicey mortgage-backed securities market.

An obscure accounting rule called mark-to-market, which can have the paradoxical result of making assets be worth less on paper than they are in reality during times of panic.

    As for tax burdens;
In 2006, the top 5% of U.S. taxpayers, those with gross annual incomes of at least $153,500, paid about 60% of all income tax collected. In contrast, the 50% of taxpayers with incomes under $32,000, paid less than 3% of the total taxes collected. Taxpayers in the top 1%, those with incomes of $388,800 or more, paid almost 40% of all taxes collected.
The 40% of all federal taxes paid by the wealthiest 1% of Americans represents the highest percentage of all taxes they have paid since 1986, according to a July 21, 2008 report (.pdf) issued by the Joint Economic Committee (JEC).

  58. Annie says:

    Whoa there JennaMeow.

No where in Neelyo’s statements did I see her calling you a “backward hickernut from Texas”

And I didn’t read any implication of that.

But thanks for proving that to win an argument, you enjoy sticking words into people’s mouths, even though they’re WRITTEN DOWN.

    Oh. And:
    Agreed with Hashbrowns and Trillion.

  59. L says:

I don’t see how anyone can blame obama for the economy. this has been a long-time coming. @barneslr: what evidence can you provide to prove that Obama is the cause? Gas prices? You’ll have to do better.

Give obama a chance. did it ever occur to anybody that obama is trying to connect with us – going on talk shows, he is appealing to the youth. he is taking a modern approach instead of being all formal. and I think it is refreshing. We need a leader who understands the modern world & who is similar to us. How could you put faith in a president who thinks he is superior and thus behaves that way? Obama is down to earth.

And really, I dont understand how you can hate his politics or not agree with them because
    a) he hasn’t been in long enough to do anything
    b) he is trying for PEACE. what is wrong with that? Do we really want a repeat of 9-11? cos that’s where Bush got us. His approach DID NOT WORK. And there is 4 years of evidence to back that up.

People are just worried because Obama is trying a dfferent method. But what they don’t realise is that if you never evolve you will always get the same results. and the results = 9-11

  60. L says:

and you know what? That dilweed (love it) Angie is complaining that she’s gotta dress for a recession?

WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE FKN PPL LOSING THEIR HOMES & THEIR JOBS?? YOU REALLY THINK ANYONE CARES ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE WEARING COW?

  61. Autumm Leaves says:

I go by the HIGH approval ratings fo the President and the First Lady, not bitter losers on the right who can’t move on for good the country.

It’s pointless to have a discussion with some posters who regurgitate talking points from Beck, Hannity, Coulter, and Oxycotin. Empty rhetoric, nasty, snide comments, disrespectful behavior, and deluded ideology. The conservatives have no leg to stand on, nor a backbone nowadays. Come at the with facts and they want to revise the last eight years of history.

  62. Hieronymus Grex says:

Oh boo-hoo poor Angie Harmon, I bet economic hardship to her means her triple latte soy mocha arrived 5 minutes late.

  63. Hieronymus Grex says:

Oh and more to the topic, maybe the whiny right wingnuts could actually wait until Obama’s done something WRONG that has a negative impact on the country before criticizing, instead of picking nits over teleprompters or the fact he’s cool under pressure, they wouldn’t have to take some much of criticism of their own.

  64. Rosanna says:

You go Angie and thank you for acknowledging the fact, Kaiser. Now that he got elected can we criticize it or we need to shut up *just* because of his race? *grin* ANY other president would have already been mistreated but so many are afraid of being called racists. Because they will, you know. Even in blogs 😉

  65. Suzann says:

    Stellapurdy is it?

There is a such a thing as having a thought of my own – attacking my thoughts as those of “Rush Limbaugh” or the “Fox Network” only show you as the small-minded person you most obviously are. Most certainly if I had used another noun to describe the President, you would find some other resource from where that came too – yes there is a liberal biased media and yes those words can be heard other than a Fox Network news channel oh wise one . . .

  66. flo says:

    @L… well said!

  67. stellapurdy says:

Thanks daisy424 for posting factcheck.org. You and I may not be on the same side of the political fence but I think we both like to have actual facts brought into the debate rather than name calling and finger pointing from either side.

  68. stellapurdy says:

Suzann, your rant only proves my point, so thanks.

  69. daisy424 says:

Stella *wink*, absolutely agree! Believe it or not, we aren’t that far apart on that fence.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but the facts speak for themselves.

This thread brought in a tidy sum of hits.

  70. Gracie says:

“Collectively, I think we were seeing racists and bigots around every corner, when it wasn’t always the case.”

Kaiser, I am skipping all the comments, but I did want to thank you for the graciousness in your statement. It’s only by being civil will we have a decent country, regardless of one’s political orientation.

I intensely dislike Obama for what he’s done already. (Although anyone would be in a bad spot as President.) I voted for Keyes in my state primary a couple of elections ago. Why? Although I disagree with him on a *lot* ,I thought he was a fireball and my vote was a protest against Bush. (I’m a libertarian Republican, so Keyes and Bush both had policies I found offensive.)

I vote like Dr. King would probably vote – on the issues, not on color. I hope someday we all will. FWIW, there are racists/racialists on both sides.

  71. Annie says:

It’s refreshing isn’t it? Most people have stopped caring about politics, so it’s nice to see this thread be a hotbutton topic. Not as hotbutton as an AJ/BP/JA post, but maybe someday! 😀

As for what really caused this mess. You are absolutely correct about the multiple multiple multiple causes.
And let’s not forget Stock-option backdating scandals! That played a huge role as well. It caused many corporate leaders to misrepresent the success (or rather, lack thereof) of the company, to inflate prices and then sell off their millions of shares that are grated as part of a nice little bonus package most corporate execs get. It was supposed to encourage personal investment in the company, and it really only encouraged massive corruption.

It’s not just dems that caused this or just republicans. It was a whole multitude of things that one man is expected to fix in less than a year? Really?

  72. me says:

Suzann- I can admit that there is a liberal bias in the media. I have yet to hear anyone on the right admit that Fox News is Biased. Can you? I wish people on the right could just stop whinning about the “liberal Media”. You guys have talk radio and Fox News. Stop playing the victim.

  73. MomInNH says:

Holy moly where to begin?? lol I think all of the anti-socialism people need to think about the public schools their children attend, the fact that their mail makes it to their address, that they can go to any public library and borrow books, movies and art. Or the social security benefits that your parents or grandparents recieve. Our country has long been socializing things. Socialism isn’t the scary boogy man hiding under your bed. Don’t be stupid and get over the socialism is the end of the world attitude.

I too have come across many people that I had no idea were racists or bigots, until President Obama ran for office. People I was close to, people I thought I knew well. Sometimes racism isn’t blatant. It’s not something they scream from the rooftops any more. I don’t know whether or not Angie is a racist, but I do know that everyone who started their statement with “I’m not a racist but…” was indeed a racist.

As far as she’s concerned she lost any respect I had for her when she started praising Palin. A woman who preaches one thing, but clearly doesn’t live by the same words. A woman who would have your right to choose to terminate a pregnancy away from you. No matter the circumstances. As a victim of rape who took the morning after pill, I’m disgusted and appalled at that alone. How dare she suppose that she knows what’s best for me and my life or you and yours? How dare she try to prevent my daughter from having that choice? Her daughters? Yours? I am scared for the people who support her. And I’m disgusted by the women who do especially. Shame on you.

  74. Shay says:

    Here’s the problem:

It’s not racist to question Obama. Classifying what’s racist or not is hard to do because it means you’d have to know what that person would say or do in an instance where the race of their chosing vs the one(s) they don’t care for are invovled. There are people who would hate any president in office to matter who it was. There are people who will hate any president that doesn’t fit their party. One thing I’ve noticed though I don’t remember hearing republicans make jokes about harming Bill Clinton physically when he first went into office but I hear them at work as if this is normal. There is a climate of racism invovled in some circles but I wouldn’t pin it on every person who has an issue with Obama.

  75. Codzilla says:

Amen, Daisy! Thank you for that post.

Stella said: “You really need to stop repeating the Hannity/Beck/Limbaugh soundbites because it makes all of you sound like idiots.”

But you’re above name calling, right? For your information, I hate those three buffoons, and STILL see things differently than you. Sweeping generalizations are just as dangerous as the hate-filled rhetoric that Rush spews on a regular basis.

  76. Anya says:

Angie is delusional. I voted for President Obama and don’t always agree with his policies and so what? Since their guy didn’t win this is how they are now attacking President Obama. They couldn’t win with “he’s not one of us” and “palling around with terrorist” statements so the new thing now is “If you disagree with President Obama you are a racist! Trying to divide the country won’t ever work.

  77. NotUnderHisSpell says:

You liberals are all here calling republicans whiners.

Your messiah hasn’t done a damn thing at all so far except play at being President and spend money he doesn’t have. He’s put us even deeper in debt, and all the while he’s still blaming Bush for it. Don’t blame Bush…blame Clinton. He’s the one that got us into this mess. And you liberals are all crying Bush did it Bush did it!

Grow up libs. You’re the ones that got us into this.

  78. pippipcheerio says:

I used to love Angie back in the day when she was a kick-butt ADA on Law & Order – she was such a great fit for that role – so smart, gorgeous and stylish to boot. Now she just makes me tired listening to her. Repubs, wake up and smell the coffee. Like a herd of dinosaurs, your party is doomed for extinction.

  79. stellapurdy says:

Codzilla: my point was the reiteration of the sound bites spewed by the right wing media, yes folks there is a right wing media, does nothing to further the point you’re, (not you specifically) are trying to make. Just like Harmon claiming she’s been called a racist or Olbermann going over the top with his rants.

If I were to read back through the posts I’m going to say that you haven’t written anything that could be tossed into that group.

Maybe the “idiot” remark was not appropriate but the reiteration of the Messiah remark is truly a Rush Limbaugh ditto head.

  80. CDM says:

Finally! She had the courage to speak what many people are talking about. Freedom of speech people.

  81. ellee says:

Maybe she’s not racist, she’s sexist. Insert sarcasm here. Please, are there racist idiots still out there? Of course. Do they make up the majority of the US citizenry? Based on an unscientific pole of my friends and coworkers, no. And I happen to agree with her – I disagree with a lot of what he’s doing and, which on paper seems to be moving this country toward socialism. When prominant democratic minority celebrities completely slammed Bush (and trust me I wasn’t a fan of him either), they could just as well be charged with racism – apparently in the new mindset criticizing anyone who is other than you gets painted in the worst possible light. I guess I’ll just be forced to criticize 30-something married educated white women – Lord knows I wouldn’t want to be deemed racist, sexist, or classist. Get a grip people. Or as the famous quote says, “sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.”

  82. Imara219 says:

I remember when Bush was in office and anyone who criticized his policies were perceived as unpatriotic hating Americans. They wanted me to feel dirty for being a “liberal” and his supporters/ super conservatives put up a huge posture whenever anyone disagreed with his incentives, policies, and actions, especially those concerning war with Iraq; so I understand what Harmon is going through.

I may not agree with her policies and I have a lot of arguments against most on this board concerning their information but no one should feel bad for not agreeing with the President. Obama even stated that he likes the criticism because it helps him grow. He accepts different options as his owna nd it’s our duty as citizens to voice out those concerns. Even though I am an Obama supported, I will speak out if he does soemthing I do not like. It’s perfectly normal.

Grown people should know what is racism, it’s quite sad that someone has to post a statement to clarify that issue.

  83. PoopFace says:

Angie Harmon (aka Charlie Sheen) is just a douche. No one cares what she or any other celeb thinks.

  84. Howie says:

Angie and a few others on this board sound really crazy and stupid. It hurts me to see Fox News in action.

  85. ms adamantia claus says:

Reading between the lines: My career is going no where and I’ve become a soccor mom whose opinion no one cares about – OH! I KNOW! I’ll create a false controversy and the horny right wing knuckleheads out there will pay attention! Brillant! And NOW at least I keep my promise to the second rate company that hired my D list ass to provide some “star” (uh – right) power for the ad campaign for the untested for its new application former medical drug being used as a beauty treatment that I’m NOW shilling (read attention whore) to keep me from feeling like a loser. So I’ll concoct some convienently unidentified “people” who supposedly are “after me” for my comments – besides I’m pretty. Dumb, uninformed, MIS-informed, PARROT, tell me Genius how does an administration that’s been in office for less than 100 days get the blame for, fake WMDs and dead American soldiers, Wall Street corruption and deregulation that pushed thru hidden agenda like when they set up Clinton with that idiot Lewinsky so he’d be too distracted to stop the legislation (this is long term hearts and minds stuff folks like the EDUCATION president Bush who SAVAGED THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM DURING HIS REIGN), Enron, Worldcom, Blackwater atrocities and BILLIONS OF DOLLARS MISSING IN IRAQ, fake contract bidding offers that only HAlliburton(mentored by former CEO and VP Cheney) got to bid on EVEN MORE BILLIONS MISSING, on their way out the door these PATRIOTS tried to hamstring and sabotage the new admin and thusly the mightily put upon American taxpayers by giving almost inconcievable amounts of money with NO stipulations to their friends and cronies on the way out, one last feeding at the trough and booked like thieves in the night. I cannot imagine what or why (nay even HOW) she can think that Obama had something to do with that? What’d he do, hold the damn door while they were wheeling out the money on his way into the Inauguration? As for her nonsense about Palin well being pretty in this country can give a person more power than they may have sense to wield. Her familiar Harmnut is proof of that.
Jeez can someone aim at camera at her and take her picture already so she’ll shut up and take her wicked stupid ass back to Mommy & me land?

  86. huh! says:

Notunderhis- “Blame clinton” You are an idiot.

  87. CB Rawks says:

It’s always disappointing to find out someone you like is a republican. My heart sinks the same way it does when I find out someone is a scientologist. I think “Dang. They’re obviously not very bright. And they think the world revolves around them. Sigh.”

  88. M says:

I’m sorry, but anyone that supports Palin has no credibility…

  89. huh! says:

I never heard a liberal refer to Obama as, or act as if he is a messiah. All of these kool-aid drinking Republicans keep bringing up this term; messiah. This proves that they all are just taking their talking points from Rush, Hannity, and every other talk radio nut. Learn to think for yourselves.

  90. G. snydle says:

How come I heard that same statement on the Rush Limbaugh show, quote for quote.
I think it’s a strategy being used by the Right-Wing types to remind people that Obama isn’t White, in fact Mr. Limbaugh has now in his frustration taken the race-baiting to a whole new level, or should I say depth.

There is a Right-Wing attempt to create a racial divide in an attempt to destroy Obama’s popularity they are willing to use the Angie Harmon-Rush Limbaugh “poison pill” even if it destroys the racial harmony of this country, it’s just despicable.

  91. ms adamantia claus says:

Or I could just say this:
“It’s better to stay silent and look a fool, rather than speak and remove all doubt.” – Mark Twain

  92. hmm says:

First of all, the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress until 2006 and the Bush agenda was passed by Republican majorities in both houses for years. It is incredible that so many people on this board obviously believe the nonsense they watch on Fox News and insert false facts to support their false arguments. No one said that if you are opposed to Obama that you are a racist, yet so many of you argue that you are being vilified for not voting for Obama. I call bullsh*t. I don’t think that you realize how disrespectful you come across in your criticism with the constant name calling of the President and the idiotic dire predictions that only reveal a serious psychosis or brainwashing. George Bush got a free pass from 9/11 until Katrina and yet you still insist that he got a raw deal. The same idiots who called anyone critical of Bush a traitor and unpatriotic are now so angry that their guy/party didn’t win that they are livid. You should ask yourselves why this election in particular made you so angry. I mean Al Gore actually won the election in 2000 and had it handed to Bush and still Dems did not go apesh*t the way you people are. Why is that? On another note the same Republicans defending Angie Harmon are the same ones who tell Sean Penn and liberals to shut their mouths. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. No one does hypocrisy like Republicans.

  93. Twin says:

I don’t believe she is racist. She is just a republican who can’t stand the fact that a democrat is in office. what is so conflicting to me is that her republican president has her still dressing for a recession not our current president who is trying to fix what our last president screwed up. She should have asked herself in 2004 when she was speaking up for our last president (2004 GOP convention) if he really deserved another 4 years in office after seeing what he had accomplished in the first 4 years. nothing! she doesn’t want to go back 8 years when Bush first took office and we had a surplus due to a democratic president and now we have the biggest deficit ever. if it took her president 8 years to screw everything up she should at least give our new president 4 years.

  94. Ryo says:

I voted for McCain because there were a few of his core policies that I completely supported, and for me, those policies trumped the ones I did NOT like. I WAS called racist for it, so I can see where she’s coming from.

What I don’t understand is this almost rabid hatred of Obama and all of these people wishing so hard that his policies will fail. Do you WANT him to completely tank our economy? Nobody REALLY knows if his policies will work, but at least give them a chance. My personal view about it is: I am willing to trust my president to try and get us out of this mess. If he can stop it from happening again, all the more power to him. There’s much more to this than who you “like” and who you don’t.

I stopped at, “I’m not going to watch Law and Order anymore.”

    LMAO

What is this, the 7th grade? Well, if you don’t like the same thing I like, I’m going to take my dolls and go home.

You go ahead and boycott L&O. LMFAO.

  96. Ron Jano says:

Thank you Angie! It’s good to know there is at least one “thinker” in Hollywood. I don’t understand why people are afraid to admit there is an idiot in the white house! The obamanation is going to ruin this country with his socialist agenda.
Everything you stated is easily understood (although some comments here show there are ignorant people everywhere)and I applaud you for your courage!

  97. lola says:

public persona should really be more careful about voicing their political views. but i guess it just goes hand in hand with their neverending need for attention. she just royally screwed herself for blabbing out that nonsense. that will cost her a lot of work. on the other hand, she was never really a rising star anyways, so maybe now her and S. Palin can go polarbear hunting together and commiserate about thr unexperienced negro in the white house.

  98. me says:

Ron- “Obamanation” To bad you’re not a thinker. Learn to think for yourself and stop repeating dumb Hannity tag lines. You’re a typical right wing kool-aid drinker.

  99. Codzilla says:

stella: Thanks for clarifying. And I apologize if I was overly bitchy with you — these topics get everyone a little worked up, lol.

  100. Codzilla says:

CB Rawks said: It’s always disappointing to find out someone you like is a republican. My heart sinks the same way it does when I find out someone is a scientologist. I think “Dang. They’re obviously not very bright. And they think the world revolves around them. Sigh.”

    —-

Crazy! That’s EXACTLY the same thought I had about you after reading this foolish post. And I’m not even a Republican.

  101. Annie says:

    *sigh*

This thread has become one giant mess.

And I’d like to reiterate that no one has called ANYONE racist. I think it’s safe to say a good chunk of us presented plausible explanations as to why others may perceive that some feel that way, but none of us have said Republican=Racist or Obama Objector=racist.

And to the person who thinks that racism doesn’t exist. You’re delusional. Institutional racism doesn’t exist, but oh, racism still exists. You come talk to me when you’re just trying to have a pot pie and all this one woman does is stare at you the entire time, with this look that I find hard to describe, but something not so malicious and contemptuous but maybe a couple degrees less. Oh, and that happened on Saturday.

  102. CosVis says:

“The obamanation is going to ruin this country with his socialist agenda.”

Because the country was perfect prior to his taking office, right? LMFAO!
    You’re a comedian, right? I mean, you’ve got to be…right?

  103. Hieronymus Grex says:

The obamanation is going to ruin this country with his socialist agenda.

  104. Trillion says:

I don’t know why this doesn’t seem obvious, so let me state that when I say “mess left by (Obama’s) predecessor”, I’m talking about our country’s infrastructure, the useless and incredibly expensive war in Iraq that we were mislead into supporting, our country’s global reputation, torture, climate, economic favors to the wealthy elite at the expense of the rest of us, and the list goes on and on and on. Has there ever been a worse president? I’m disappointed in Obama on several levels and find him very centrist. I’m cautiously hoping our country does better with him at the helm. But why does the outrage over a 3 month old president seem so vociferous, so loud, so ubiquitous and almost violent? (Rush, Bachman) Especially considering the awful, bloody, deceptive, greedy, secretive administration that precedes his, it seems out of proportion. I will chalk it up to propaganda. The right is so much better at this, I’ll give them credit for that.

    @ms adamantia claus:
I don’t know if you are referring to me, but my facts are not based on Fox news, check my sources before you attack and accuse.

btw, Where are your sources or links to back up your claims.

“..when they set up Clinton with that idiot Lewinsky so he’d be too distracted to stop the legislation.

Really? So his affair with “knobjob” Lewinski is a non-Dem. conspiracy, not of his own doing? Hillary will be thrilled to hear that bit of news. He lied on the stand, who’s fault is that? With that reasoning, anyone can now blame W for natural disasters and the boil on your Aunt Mary’s ass.

“…american taxpayers by giving almost inconceivable amounts of money with NO stipulations to their friends and cronies….”

Hmmm, now that sounds identical to the recent bills/budget that have flown through the house and senate of late, that a handful even got to read before voting. AIG bonuses were in that last TARP payout.

Imo, they are all tainted, regardless of political party.

  106. Patrice says:

“I’m still dressing for a recession over here buddy” Um. OK. Clearly this woman is dillusional. (Isn’t that a Louis Vuitton strap on her arm)? If she’s at all living like there’s a recession, it’s because she hasn’t worked in years. Also, ” and we’ve got unemployment at an all-time high and that was his number one thing and that’s the thing I really don’t appreciate” Look, the man has been in office for TWO MONTHS (!!!) and is clearly doing the best he can. I am a fellow Republican, and although I too am somewhat unhappy about the way the budget has been drawn up , even I can see that. I do agree with what she says about racism though. That has sort of been the tone that has been set by many of his supporters in defense of him from day 1.

  107. KD says:

Who’s been calling her Racist? I regularly visit a lot of black news/politics websites and I aint heard one word about her. I think this being blown by her and other conservatives so they can play the “victim of being called racist for no good reason card”!! Second doesn’t she realize how many people have been and are criticizing Obama all the time? On TV, online the radio, have been calling most if really any of them at all racists, save for a couple?

  108. Ana says:

Well I will be the first one to admit that I know nothing about politics. I have to applaud all of you for having views (correct or incorrect) that I don’t have. At least you have opinions.
I don’t understand how people can blame Clinton for the recession? I thought he had us in the clear? I understand that it couldn’t stay that way because of inflation or something but wasn’t it Bush’s job to ensure we didn’t go into debt?
I’m asking because I hope someone will explain to me.
And I think that people need to go a little easier on Obama. It’s only been three months, it’s going to take a long time to get things fixed. Hopefully he will do it.

  109. Annie says:

Ana, Bush was too busy dumping trillions of dollars into a pointless war that has put our friends and family at risk.

  110. Angie? says:

If someone called another person gay – and that person wasn’t, would that be enough to upset them?

And if you’re not really a racist, are still going to be so uncomfortable and squirmy?

I’d have to hear her tone of voice, she may just be stupid, sheltered or hypocritical or infact be a bit prejudice. But my thing is as someone else has already mentioned intelligent people know that philosophical differences exsist and that people have differing opinions due to that and their own convictions, it’s not necessarily that that person is racist. Many people like Angie Harmon, Lou Dobbs, Bill O’ Reilly and the Glenn Becks need to think twice…Again,
If someone called another person gay – and that person wasn’t, would that be enough to upset them? And if you’re not really a racist, are you going to freak out at being called one?
Can you see what I mean?

  111. Joyler says:

Way to go Angie Harmon. I was always a big fan but now I am even bigger. I cannot believe some of the comments I have read, even as we read an article on name calling, people making comments are calling names, for example a few against Sarah Palin. Lets all grow up. We can all have different points of view but enough with the name calling.

  112. Joyler says:

Hi Ana, As for Clinton when he left office we were in good shape but heading for the .com bubble, then we had 9/11 so that was part of the problem with the debt on President Bush’s watch. He definitely over spent. He increased out deficit more than he should have, but he was not alone with this, Congress has a big part to do with our spending. As for President Obama, I do not think anyone should go easy on any President when they are creating such massive debt for our county. We had better hope China does not call our debt due. Our childrens, children and further are going to be paying for the mistakes of President Bush and President Obama.

  113. Ana says:

    Very interesting Joyler. Thank you!

  114. HereItIs says:

I agree with Autumm Leaves, Giz and Trillion.

    hmm, excellent points!

KD, you are so right and I agree with you on all that 🙂

  115. Patrice says:

Ana : It sounds like you ARE somewhat ineterested in politics otherwise you would not have commented at all. Maybe you can study a little bit of the news or read some political magazines from time to time? You might find it worth your while, websites like this aren’t exactly the best source of information : )

  116. Gry says:

The poor thing. She obviously hasn’t even the remotest conception of Socialism beyond it being a boogeyman buzzword trotted out by Fox.

Just as there are elements of the supposedly infallible Capitalist Free Market theory that are wildly imperfect, so are their elements of the Socialist theory that are viable. A wise person might surmise that combining the best elements of multiple economic disciplines has merit. A twit like Harmon whose interest seems to be pandering to the sore asses of the Neo-Cons will just continue to cry “Witch!” and fall in line with the other hysterics.

Leave the heavy lifting to the experts, Ange. Stick to what you know: nabbing a pro athlete hubby, shilling make-up endorsements, starring in failed TV pilots, and doing plenty of pilates.

  117. aicraGnelG says:

Again, this so-called “issue” is a non-starter. I find it highly laughable that an entitled, rich white woman who’s married to a rich sports star, living in a private gated community in Los Angeles can claim to be a “victim” of anything other than her own personal hubris. I don’t know Angie Harmon personally, so I don’t know if she’s a racist or not; I’m inclined to believe the best in people prevail, so she’s probably not; but that’s beside the point. People, she’s not living out of her car with her husband and kids, sucking down baloney sandwiches and cat food. My sympathies are wasted on her. I reserve my sympathies for my fellow AMERICANS (regardless of political affiliation) who are truly hurting in these hard economic times, not some pampered model/failed actress eating caviar on her couch and crying to Fox News about “liberals” being unfair to her.

  118. bettestreep2008 says:

How tiresome it is to hear from staunch conservaive Republicans blaming Obama for the state of the economy!

If I am not mistaken the global financial crisis occurred under George W Bush’s watch and the $700B “no strings attached” bail out was passed by George W Bush and supported by the likes of Palin and McCain!

and the multi-trillion $ deficit would be much lower if Bush didn’t commit to two ongoing, costly and ill conceived wars!

And BTW Angie – if someone criticises the dumb as batshit Palin – aren’t they automatically accussed of being SEXIST???

I have noticed Fox News and Republican supporters like yourself come out and criticise the media for the treatment they gave Palin during the 2008 election!

At the same time Fox and the Republicans attacked Hilary Clinton with unparalleled venom and smeared Obama with claims that he was a “muslim” “palled around with terrorists” and was ineligible for office because he was allegedly born overseas!

Thankfully Angie belongs in a small group of actors and musicians who openly support the Republican Party like Doris Day, Shirley Jones, Ted Nugent, Patricia Heaton, Kelsey Grammar, Mel Gibson, Jim Caviezel, Dean Cain and Bruce Willis.

Compare this to the growing list of superstars that support Obama and the Democrat party;- Barbra Streisand,
Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford, Steven Spielberg, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Oprah Winfrey,Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Sidney Poitier, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce even Demi Moore!

  123. Brittany says:

LOL Angie Harmon is now my favorite celebrity.
I read an ad the other day it said
“In 2008 you voted for Obama to prove you are not a racist. In 2012 vote for someone else to prove you are not an idiot.” LMAO Hilarious. Obama is to be blamed for the recession. He keeps spending us into more debt. The next President will not be able to balance the budget but at least they can start trying.

  124. Lee Chen says:

2 years later, hey all you conservative haters, how are you feeling now about Obama? Things have tanked since he took over, totally tanked. He said he would not blame others, but that is all he does. Takes vacations, golfs and gives campaign speeches. 2012 cannot come fast enough. No more American Idol presidents please. The college kids that were duped by him will not make that mistake again.

  125. Hello there, just turned into alert to your blog through Google, and located that it is truly informative. I am gonna watch out for brussels. I will appreciate in case you proceed this in future. Lots of other folks will be benefited from your writing. Cheers!

I think it should be easy to see by now that if the Tea Party members of congress hadn’t blocked every bill Obama tried to pass we may have an idea of how he would have actually been as a first term president.Plus, the house changed the number of votes needed to quash or pass a bill so that they could have control. Unless Obama is re-elected and we get a majority democrat congress we’ll never know if Obama’s plans could have helped our country.
