Justin Bieber’s team banned him from doing anything but pre-taped interviews

A new story in Page Six says that Justin Bieber’s team is all worried about something bad happening while he promotes his single about da ladies, “What Do You Mean?” (which he’ll perform this Sunday at the MTV VMAs). After over two years of obnoxious bad behavior, Scooter Braun’s ulcer can’t handle it. And Team Swaggy sort of realizes the apology tour didn’t work. At first, everyone laughed at Swaggy’s angelic attempts, then people looked away, and finally, even the faithful stopped Beliebing. Sad.

Anyway, Bieber hasn’t endangered anyone’s lives in a few months, and Braun wants to tread water. No more stepping backward, thank you very much. To this end, Bieber will tape all of his interviews for the foreseeable future. I guess Braun forgot about Swaggy’s whiny taped deposition, which Bieber said was all a bratty setup, but here’s the latest damage control attempt:

Justin Bieber’s reps aren’t taking any chances the unpredictable pop brat will embarrass himself on a New York media blitz to promote his newest single, two years after his last world tour ended.

Spies tell Page Six that Bieber’s doing no live interviews, only taped ones, to cut down on any potential controversy. On Monday he came to the studio for Elvis Duran’s Z100 show to tape an interview that will air Friday.

“Justin’s people are so terrified of him speaking live, they’re doing everything pretaped,” a source told us. Bieber’s also taping The Tonight Show while in town, to air Sept. 2. He’ll perform on MTV’s VMAs on Sunday, and insiders say he’ll also perform on the Today concert series on Sept. 10.

Bieber’s publicly apologized multiple times recently for past bad behavior, which has included a DUI arrest and throwing eggs at a neighbor’s house.

In a recent mea culpa on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he admitted: “A lot of times we pretend so that we can fit in, and we end up looking like the douchebag … That was kind of me.” His rep didn’t get back to us.

[From Page Six]

Will this tactic work, and does it matter? Bieber’s tunes will still hit the clubs, but I think he can forget about his Beliebers. They’ve all moved on to liking 5SOS and other bands filled with cute, semi-harmless dudes. Oh, and the New York Times published a piece about Swaggy’s Skrillex/Diplo collaboration, “Where Are U Now.” The “team” work was done over the internet, so Bieber never ended up in the studio with the other dudes. This is normal in the digital age, but I still like to imagine that not even Diplo wanted to hang in the same room with Swaggy.

Hear that laughter? It’s the sound of Vanilla Ice ‘I toldya so’ing…

  2. Jag says:

Is it bad that I hope his song flops?

    • Idon'tCare says:

I feel the same way! He needs some lean years, so he can see what a golden opportunity he pissed away. He got the career handed to him that much better singers never get a chance to have.

  3. vauvert says:

I think their damage control is too little, too late. His douchebag rep is firmly established, his teen fans have grown and moved on, and his current (and past) attitude does not endear him to new teen fans. He may get a few more hits in and live off his previous earnings, with regular tabloid appearances for his antics, but his heyday is over and thank The Lord for that.

Now can we please do the same with the KKK? I am really tired of the multiple daily posts about their bad fashions, fake asses, fake romances with worthless men and the manufactured drama of living completely uninspired, overprivileged, useless lives. If every celeb blog out there starts to ignore them, they will fade away – it is not like actual celebs who have upcoming movies or songs to look forward to.

    • Mona says:

This^^^^ 100%. My contribution to KKK dissapearing for good is I refuse to click on anything concerning them or comment. Hopefully more people start doing the same.

Did you see the interview where he didn’t know what “German” meant? It was amazing, the look on the interviewer’s face was priceless.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Whaaaat?

    • renee says:

      @ Embertine

I can’t believe I am going to defend him here..
But he was “down under” and the interviewer had a strong accent. He was asking him if his last name was German but it was hard to discern what he was saying…it sounded like he was saying “Jew-man” (ugh) so Beiber said, I don’t know what that word means because it did sound like the interviewer was saying something problematic. That is the only time I will make an excuse for him. I’ll show myself out.

      • Queen says:

That was here in New Zealand. And while I’ll admit our accents can be strong, the interviewer showed him the word printed on his cue cards. So he read it as well and was still confused!

    • Flim says:

What was he, 12 years old? I’m all for castigating him for being a shitty adult, but judging by an embarrassing teenage gaffe is more cruel than high-brow judgey.

  5. INeedANap says:

In an alternate universe, Bieber embraced his androgynous looks and high singing voice, collaborated with avant garde artists, and became the next generation’s David Bowie.

In that universe I am also married to John Cena and we have adorable babies, so keep that in mind.

Bieber’s f-ckery aside I do miss the days when a celebritie’s image was completely manufactured by the studio/label and tightly controlled by professional publicists and agents. The allure and iconic appeal of the stars remained shrouded in glamour and mystery. This made it so much more rewarding to enjoy their art, imo.
You didn’t have to watch Clark Gable onscreen and be distracted by knowing his idiotic views. You could attend a Streisand concert and not have to mentally block out the knowledge that she sharts herself if she laughs too hard.
    :/

    • NewWester says:

      +1

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

So true. I can’t tell you how many mental love affairs I’ve had to abandon because that beautiful man is dumb as a stump. And I didn’t know that about Barbara S. so thank you for a mental image that will take years of therapy to erase. 😬

    • lucy2 says:

LOL! And yes, it’s nice when an entertainer still leaves a little mystery. I don’t need to know the gory details, or be told so much I feel like a member of the family.

    • Imo says:

Agree, ladies. This is one reason I enjoy reading biographies of the old Hollywood icons. The real stories are so much more shocking/entertaining because they are a radical departure from the finely crafted narrative. If you look carefully at Mia Farrow’s face in scenes from Rosemary’s Baby you can see bruises under the makeup from beatings she received from Sinatra. Rita Hayworth tried to scramble across a dinner table to fight a group of fellow diners who had just insulted her husband. James Dean used to sing Billie Holiday songs so pitch perfectly that people used to do double takes when he would imitate her at parties. He had all of her records and carried them around in brown paper. While filming Camille, Robert Taylor actually became lightheaded the first time he saw Greta Garbo, wearing a strapless ballgown, glance at him over her shoulder. Sean Connery once said it was okay to slap a woman around ‘a little’ if she got out of hand.the love of Grace Kelly’s life was a Jewish doctor whom her conservative family refused to let her marry. When Josephine Baker was eight years old she was a house maid to a wealthy family. After failing to properly clean something the woman she worked for plunged the child’s hands into boiling water as punishment. Elvis was a natural blonde until his manager convinced him that black hair would make him seem more rebellious and cool to his teenage fans.
      Etc etc Bieber who?

      • Chichi says:

        @IMO

Amazing! I idnt know over 90% of this. I may have to rewatch Rosemarys Baby, poor Mia. Just one correction, Sean Connery didnt just express enthusiasm for domestic violence once. Decades after the first statement, Barbara Walters asked him if he had changed his mind…guess what he said. Nobody cares though since he did qualify it with a “only hit with an open palm” and “only as a last resort”. What a prince! I do believe both his ex and his son have confirmed that he was violent at home but I may be confusing him with that other perfect gentleman, Burt Reynolds.

      • Imo says:

        Just. Wow.
And Anthony Quinn was also an outright monster. Burt??? Noooooo!!!!

  7. Katrina says:

Hmm, where have they been for the past 5 years? Too little, too late.

  8. grabbyhands says:

Seems like this tactic is something they should have thought of a couple years ago.

  9. Talie says:

2 years later… wow. It will be interesting to see what fanbase he has left and if adults will be into him.

  10. MonicaQ says:

I thought this dude was over already??

  11. lucy2 says:

He has been fairly quiet recently…couldn’t they just ban him from doing anything every again? Then we wouldn’t have to see his stupid face.
Like others have posted, too little too late, his image is forever ruined, and his fans are growing up and moving on. He’s been on the downward slope of his career for a while, and I don’t see that changing.

  12. My Two Cents says:

I’m sure that my comment will be met with eyes rolling, but I don’t think the poor choices he made as a ‘kid’ should forever be held against him. There are other celebrities that are lying, cheating, abusing scoundrels that don’t get the bad press this kid does.

    • AJ says:

Yeah, I’m kind of with you here.
This struck me: “A lot of times we pretend so that we can fit in, and we end up looking like the douchebag … That was kind of me.”
It doesn’t erase his past behavior, but he isn’t beyond redemption if he chooses to become a better person.
It’ll be hard work for him.

  13. Snowpea says:

He’s such an unattractive little man and also the reason I didn’t let my wannabe film star not get an agent till he’s 18 😀

  14. QQ says:

Lol what is he now taking a Page out of Beyonce and Britney?? Except his team is afraid in so many words that he dropped the wigger act and it’s back where the money is at (white bland and non threatening earnest boy) and that he might ruin that by dropping the bass on his voice or reblackening in interviews???

it’s late anyways, we don’t need him cause with God a Jonas Brother filling up the spot at the moment and we even manage to believe his actual swag

  15. Mich says:

“At first, everyone laughed at Swaggy’s angelic attempts, then people looked away, and finally, even the faithful stopped Beliebing. Sad.”

    Lol!!!! Well done 🙂

    • teacakes says:

Lainey claims his new single is doing well? So I can only hope that people have indeed stopped Beliebing.

  16. Lucy says:

Just wanted to say that I love 5SOS. Judge away, I can take it *hides*.

  17. teacakes says:

Actual question: is this d-bag’s new single doing well at all?

As in, are people actually buying his nonsense, and does that mean I’m going to have to keep seeing his face in media, because it is way too Classic Douche for my liking.

I don’t buy his contrite act for a second. And nor do I buy the excuse of “having haters made me do it!”. Miley Cyrus was also hated and derided from an early age for being from the tacky House of Mouse, but you don’t see her behaving like this. Attention-whorey, yes. But afaik she’s never peed in any poor janitor’s bucket or had a DUI or egged anyone’s house.

  18. jwoolman says:

He seems to be standing up straight now and his pants are fully on. That’s progress, yes?
