Here’s a hodge-podge of TIFF fashion photos from some of the people that probably weren’t going to get stand-alone fashion posts. It’s not that I think all of these looks are overwhelmingly bad OR good, it’s just that most of them aren’t really noteworthy either way. Also: I’m actually picking out some of the more interesting looks from some of these celebrities who had multiple fashion moments. Here is Jessica Chastain at the premiere of The Martian. Her dress was velvet Givenchy. Chastain’s style is so hit-or-miss, which makes me sad because I really do think she’s beautiful. I don’t really like this on her, because it looks too “old” and it ages her.
Kate Mara, also at the premiere of The Martian. She wore a Valentino Fall 2015. I know it’s a weird dress, but I kind of love it? I would love it even more on someone else (sorry not sorry). I really think her haircut was such a mistake.
Evan Rachel Wood and Ellen Page at the premiere of Into the Forest. Evan is wearing Gucci, because she’s a long-time Gucci girl. I like when she does menswear-inspired stuff, but I think the colors are really throwing everything off. If this had been monocromotic, it might have looked great. Like, if everything was navy, it would have been tight.
Julianne Moore is adorable and since I’m a ‘90s girl, I still have such affection for black-tights/black shoes and a print dress. That combination is adorable, although this dress in particular is kind of fug.
Rachel Weisz in Louis Vuitton for the premiere of The Lobster. This is just a really strange ensemble on such a beautiful woman. I wish she would go back to wearing a lot of Narciso Rodriguez, because she always killed it in Narciso.
Elle Fanning at the premiere of Trumbo. Her dress is Gucci and it’s adorable, I just wish the V wasn’t quite so plunging. If it had been just a little bit higher, it would have been one of the best looks, totally.

Love, love, love Kate Mara’s pixie cut. Makes her look so fresh and hip. Long hair on women is overrated.
There are many great shorter styles and lengths on women that can be more flattering than long hair past the shoulder on women or just a nice change, but the pixie cut has not been flattering on most of the stars that have tried it, far from it. It does look cute on her, though.
Not so. Here, for example are some women who look better with short hair: Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Annette Bening.

@Ann and sills – I’d add Natalie Portman to that list too. She’s got a stunning face but with long hair, it just looks conventionally beautiful, while with her post V-for-Vendetta pixie cut she was absolutely stunning. And I say this as someone who can’t stand her.
Rihanna works the hell out of short hair too, but she looks good with hair of any length and style so maybe she doesn’t count.
@teacakes and @ sills: add Juliette Binoche also to the list. Beautiful either way but stunning with shorter hair.

good cry, bad cry? Both are bad cries for me…The illusion on the top of Jessica’s dress is just no, and the short sleeve/sleeveless combo on Rachel’s dress is weird

I’m not much of a fashion person, but I’m not really feeling any of these looks. Elle does look the nicest and I like everyone’s styling, but these women are too beautiful for these not-so-beautiful ensembles. Better luck next time, ladies!

+1 I kept scrolling down looking for something to love or even like… Fashion disappointed! Esp. Jessica Chastain, so lovely but her red carpet looks can be so awful.
@sills exactly, Jessica Chastain’s stylists never seem to know quite what to do with her on the red carpet. Sometimes they get it right, like her first two times at Cannes and her first Oscars (2012 I think? with the Alexander McQueen dress) but the kind of matronly, ill-suited, ill-fitting things she ends up in on red carpets the rest of the time makes me want to howl.
They may as well have let me dress them if with all their style and fashion connections that’s how they ended up. I could have done a better job than either they did or their stylists did. Ugh.
I was working right by where she was doing press for the Martian on Friday and she is not friendly at all. She was rude and dismissive to fans and rushed by all of them. Matt Damon on the other hand was really nice and signed autographs and took several pictures with fans (same with Sebastian Stan). I wasn’t there when Chiwetel came but fans reactions seemed to be positive so I’m guessing he was friendly as well!
I assume you are talking about Chastain? That actually surprises me, she usually seems to go out of her way to be perceived as super nice and sweet. There’s something that I find to be not very genuine about her though. I worked on a set of one of her films, and she was frankly pretty whiny and attention seeking, which wasn’t what I expected from her at all.
You clearly have never seen her with fans.
When she was doing a show years ago, she was very nice to everyone. I didn’t get the rude vibe at all. So all this stuff really surprises me. 🙁

Elle is the only one who looks good here. Also, that pixie cut really suits Kate’s features.
TIFF 2015 has pretty much been an example of “How Not to Dress.”
The only ensemble I like is Rachel Weisz’s.
I really like it too but it took a little while to grow on me.

I think that her green belt is heavily padded and therefore hart, but the thin belt makes a small crease (the shadows of it) and that gives such a weird effect.
Otherwise I have no idea…

I actually like Rachel’s as well, and I have no idea why. Kate’s looks like a Christmas ornament, and Jessica’s is just dowdy. And I don’t understand the nude effect right at J’s bustline? All are beautiful women, though!
I love Rachel’s dress, the tshirt-like top and obi belt make it really different from the standard red carpet dress. At least it’s interesting.
The only dress I like here is Elle’s, but it’s a bit much for a teenager.

Saw a theatrical trailer for Youth yesterday-can’t wait to see it! Rachel looks good in the sage, tho that top doesn’t make the skirt pop. I like Jessica’s dress, and agree, she is stunning.
Is this a worst dressed thread? Jessica never looks that bad! I still don’t believe my eyes. Kate Mara looks like someone shrunk her head and the dress is a shapeless cocoon thing. Evan Rachel Wood and Ellen Page have the worst colours on and poor Julianne looks like she’s wearing an art smock for primary school kids. Weisz and Ellen Fanning look casual smart and cute respectively.

I give a pass to Julianne Moore because I love black and white. Elle’s dress was good, but the plunge was way too much for a teen. I think Rachel has a timeless’ beauty and I kind of like her dress. That being said, I wish the green part had a different fabric and that she was wearing a bra (she is not wearing one, right?).

There is something so mysterious and appealing about Kate Mara. Her outfit choice is not flattering to her petite stature however. And the pixie cut does her no favors.

Jessica is always gorgeous and while the stress is matronly it’s obvious that she’s trimmed down. Not that she needed to but this dress in particular shows off her trimmer waistline.
Jessica Chastain would look beautiful in a simpler deep blue velvet dress. That color looks great on her. Too bad the cutout lace top on that dress is too busy and overwhelms her. Everyone else on this page looks fug.
