Whitney Port’s custom-made mullet wedding gown: tragic, budget or lovely?

Earlier this week, our new writer Corey covered Whitney Port’s weekend nuptials. Whitney married Tim Rosenman (some dude) in Palm Springs over the weekend. Whitney is, to me, a lot like Olivia Palermo. Meaning I don’t really know why they’re famous or why I know their names, but if nothing else is going on, I’ll look at what they’re wearing. Which is why Whitney Port is getting a second story this week. It’s because she wore a MULLET WEDDING GOWN.

Whitney seems to have sold some of her wedding portraits to Us Weekly, and Whitney Instagrammed one of the shots yesterday. So, we now know she wore a mullet dress by Ashi Studio. She customized it because she wanted MOAR MULLET.

Traditional bride? No way! When Whitney Port tied the knot with Tim Rosenman on Saturday, Nov. 7, the fashion designer and reality TV alum, 30, went for an edgy, unusual look. The City star’s custom-made gown, which featured a waterfall hemline was a collaborative design with Ashi Studio, was certainly out of the ordinary.

“At the start, Whitney saw a dress from the latest couture collection and she got inspired for an idea for her wedding dress,” Mohammad Ashi of Ashi Studio tells Us Weekly. “It was inspired by a vintage chandelier from Venice and Florence.”

Port’s gown, which featured a short front and long train, showed off her model-esque stems. The lace fabric and silver embroidery was decorated with small off-white pearls, using a beading technique called Zardozi. Port kept her jewelry minimal and accessorized her bridal look with white gold, pearl, and diamond earrings by Delfina Delettrez. The pearl stud originally belonged to Rosenman’s mother. She added a little more bling once she said her “I Do’s” with three Tacori wedding bands.

[From Us Weekly]

I don’t understand why any bride would want a wedding gown “inspired by a chandelier,” but sure. The details are totally what makes this story amazing. Between the vintage chandelier, the fact that this is exactly how Whitney “customized” her look, and the THREE wedding bands, it’s all pretty… extra? I guess.

And you know how I said that Whitney reminds me of Olivia Palermo? Palermo wore a mullet skirt to her wedding too – go here to see those photos. In retrospect, I like Palermo’s look a lot more. Whitney’s wedding gown just looks… not bridal enough?

Here are some photos of Whitney and her new husband out and about on Tuesday:

I hated my wedding dress so this is one area where I feel like any woman should have something she loves, regardless of any outside opinions. I wouldn’t wear a mullet dress – ever, to any occasion – but more power to her for committing to one on her day.

    • Em' says:

Aww… how come you ended up wearing something you hated?

I think pretty wedding dresses are really hard to find.

      • JB says:

I let too many people have a voice, took too many people shopping, showed too many people pictures of what I was considering. I started out with a very specific list of preferences (no ballgown, no strapless) and ended up with exactly what I had said I didn’t want. By the time I realized what had happened there was too much money in it and not enough time to get something else.

    • Ladybird83 says:

And by latest trend couture she means the Guns and Roses “November Rain” video.

  2. Cali shade says:

I personally wouldn’t have picked a mullet gown, but it looked cute on her! I always like Whitney from the Hills! Use to love that show!

    • MC2 says:

I second that! Whitney was the most sane person on all those shows and sweet to boot. I will always hold a special place for her.

  3. meow mix says:

If I had her legs I would show them off.

  4. Kitten says:

I was prepared for tragic but I actually think it’s really pretty.

  5. anniefannie says:

She clearly can pull this design off, I’m not sure anyone else could!? I guess that’s the point of designing your own gown. I think she looks lovely and I really like her simplistic hair. I think a lot of brides go overboard with over worked hair on their wedding day.

  6. Sochan says:

I just can’t with these bleach-blonde, skinny girls who are so fixated on showing off their bare orange legs that they can’t even wear a long gown on their wedding day.

    • Cluelesswonder says:

      Feel better?!?

      • DottyZ says:

        LOL, right?

A long gown is not a wedding requirement. Oh, the horror that someone would do something non-traditional.

      • JB says:

Lol. Andplusalso, all this nonsense about your wedding being “the most important day of your life,” is kind of just that. Nonsense. It’s one of the most important decisions of your life, but there are lots of big days to come and you’ll pretty much be wearing whatever you’re wearing when they do.

    • Holly says:

I mean … it’s not my favorite look ever but if you’re blonde, skinny, and tan and you want to wear this on your wedding day, why does it bother you so much?

  7. atrain says:

While I don’t mind the dress on her, per se, it looks like something from a bridal magazine photo shoot, not something you would wear on your actual wedding day. She’s going to look back on this in a few years and cringe.

    • JB says:

Not necessarily. My dress looked like something you would wear on your actual wedding day and still I cringe. No guarantees. Gotta go with what feels right in the moment.

  8. felixswan2 says:

It’s all about the shoes. Love them!

  9. Kate says:

At least she looks good in it. And she’s happy. It reminds me a bit of the lace Giambattista Valli lace mullet dress Amal Clooney wore during the Venetian Wedding Weekend Extravaganza.

  10. QQ says:

The Mullet dress is less awful than the greasy looking “I’m about to Gym” hair

    • Yazzie says:

I totally agree QQ. That hair is tragic. I mean I know she was trynna go for the “effortless” look but it just looks dirty and lazy. I do like the dress though, even though that high-low hem is a little over done.

  11. minx says:

I actually think it’s pretty, but I would have liked it more if it was just a few inches longer in front.

  12. Miran says:

I like it, and I’m not sure what ‘not bridal enough’ is supposed to mean. It’s her wedding, let her wear what she wants outside opinions be damned.

  13. Holly says:

It’s pretty and she has the legs for it. But in 20 years, she’ll look back and wish she’d worn something more timeless. She’s super pretty and seemed to turn out normal considering the whole reality show thing. Good for her.

  14. word says:

It looks amazing on her !

  15. Bobafelty says:

    Woof

  16. Dani says:

If it was just a few inches longer in the front, maybe an inch above the knee, it’d be soo beautiful.

  17. Kymdragon says:

Am I the only one thinking Stephanie Seymour in Novemeber Rain??

  18. Peach says:

I love the comparison with Palermo, since those two women despise each other. Anyone remember “The City”? HA!

  19. I Choose Me says:

I love that shade of white and I think she wears it well. She has the legs to pull it off.

  20. TrixC says:

Is it just me or is it super photoshopped, her legs don’t look quite right

  21. wow says:

I agree with the first poster. It’s the bride’s choice, outsiders don’t have a say. *shrugs*

She has the legs for a dress like that and it works on her. Love Whitney!

  22. moo moo says:

My initial reaction upon hearing “mullet”, whether in hair form or dress form, was yuck! But i think she looks lovely. The dress looks good on her.

  23. HHY says:

Olivia is tres chic, Whitney is not.

  24. Denise says:

That’s the best mullet wedding dress I’ve ever seen. (It’s also only the second.) But if she had to go with that style, she did it right. And the shoes were perfect. That’s a body she may not keep after kids etc. so rock it. (And likely it won’t be her only wedding dress anyway. Just going by odds.)
