Adele is the Queen of Everything. Let’s just say that right now. I downloaded 25 on Friday and so far, my favorite songs are “River Lea” and “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”. While I love “Hello” and I enjoy “When We Were Young,” for me it’s all about the other two songs. I’m sure in another week, I’ll have new favorites on the album, but right now those are my obsessions. Anyway, I wasn’t the only one downloading the whole album on Friday. She sold more than 900,000 copies of the complete album just in iTunes downloads in the first 24 hours. Industry analysts say that she’s poised to shatter first-week sales records, possibly selling more than 2.5 million in the first week (which would beat the 2.42 million record set by *NSYNC in March 2000). Adele isn’t streaming the album anywhere, so that’s a lot of $$$$ in her pocket. Good for her.
There are a million other Adele stories, because of course there are. Sarah Palin sent a thank-you letter to Adele because during Adele’s BBC special/interview, Adele credited Palin for her success. Adele was the musical guest on the SNL episode which Palin did a cameo on in 2008, and it was one of the most-watched episodes of SNL ever, which ended up launching Adele’s career in America in a big way. Her album went to #1 (this was the 19 album) in America and she was nominated for four Grammys just after that SNL appearance. You can read Palin’s note to Adele here – Palin is such a famewhore.
As part of Adele’s special with Graham Norton, she decided to prank a group of Adele impersonators. This video is amazing.
Adele was also the musical guest on last night’s episode of SNL. She sang “Hello” of course, and her second song was “When We Were Young,” which is looking like the second single off the album (when it should totally be “Send My Love”!!!). Here’s “Hello”.
Here’s “When We Were Young” – now that I’ve heard the album, I don’t know why she chose this as the second single?
Here’s a funny SNL skit about how Adele has the power to unite families on Thanksgiving.
And this isn’t Adele-related at all, but it’s a great bit with tons of celebrity cameos. “Auditions” for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

She looks amazing. I like that she’s slightly less retro now.
the thanksgiving dinner skit reminds me of Beteljuice (sp?) dinner scene with the Banana Boat song.
the Jenny prank makes me… cry? what’s with Adele and crying powers?
i also enjoyed the hour long sit down with Zane from Beats 1:
http://www.itunes.com/adele
i just learned from the interview that Water Under The Bridge is about her current boyfriend, and not her ex! haha. i’ve been hearing the lyrics wrong
Me, too. It wasn’t even SAD and I was still crying. WTF???
Me, too, nc. As I said below, I was full out crying, not just tearing up. There was just something so moving about it. Maybe these people seemed so nice and like they really loved her and their dream of meeting her came true? I don’t know but it affected me the same way.
@ncboudicca and @GNAT,
right?! i watched it three times and reached for a tissue three times. in Adele’s words “i proper cried”. i think it’s just the sheer joy in the Tribute Acts faces.
i also appreciate how supportive they are to each other. they could be catty or ham it up for the camera, or the television producer could even cut it in a way that made it look like they’re “dissing” but it’s just positive from start to end. i think that contributes to the awww factor. that lady who’s really concerned about Jenny being ill.
Adele has such an emotive face! even with prosthetics. and when she sang When We Were Young at the SNL, sooo emotive.
did they give her a skit for the SNL (where she has to act), like they do at Graham Norton? i think she really can do comedy or something.
although in an interview she said she’s not funny “people think i’m funny, but i think it’s just my accent that made me sound funny”. i beg to differ. i think as @Ostone downthread said, she really has good comedic timing.
her banter on stage! and that time when she appeared on Graham Norton (Miranda Hart and Jack Whitehall are professional comedians, and Adele is as funny as they are effortlessly!)
Try to listen to “a million years ago” and not cry!! Amazing songs…she’s amazing! She looks gorgeous!! The Saturday Night Live skit on Thanksgiving was hilarious!! Much deserved success… She’s the person we all want to be after a heartbreak!
This is how it’s done, people. She doesn’t have to run around naked, cause problems, throw temper tantrums, twerk or dry hump a chair to perform a song. It’s that heaven-sent voice of hers that sell music…as it should be.
…This ^
Exactly! I don’t think she sets up pap strolls or stays on Twitter all day long, either.
I hear you-COMPLETELY. There is a particular “entity” in the music business who represents this type of a person to a T. I’m sure she is sick to her stomach that she doesn’t even have a fraction of fame Adele has right now. I am surprised that the “entity” hasn’t Tweeted Adele to get her name mentioned.
@Jane – That “entity” never had a fraction of the worldwide fame and success, no matter what she tells herself.
Adele is proof that a singer doesn’t have to reveal much if anything about her private life to have enormous success. She just does her well-received music and promotion at the appropriate time, and that’s it.
I don’t know why but watching her enormous success I get some unhealthy satisfaction. She is slying all these attention wh0res/stunt queens really hard. You go girl!
I’m not overly blown away by her music, but how she blows away the other try-hards makes me smile. Not just the twerks, but the squad leaders, if you catch my drift. 😉
@ Christin ^THIS!!! My ultimate fantasy is to have her and Miss “I am the most popular girl on the planet squad leader” up for Grammys, and Adele takes every bloody one away from her. Insert evil cackle.
@Jane, I will cackle right along side you!
Yes.
This is how it’s done if you have talent, otherwise you have to show your boobs and twerk all around.
Yesss I definitely get pleasure out of watching her succeed! Bye, famewhore starlets.
Absolutely!
applauding this comment
Love Adele! The impersonator video was hilarious! She has great comedic timing!
The impersonator video was hilarious but also very emotional
I’m glad you said that. It made me cry – not just tear up, but full on boo hoo. 😿😿😿😿
I love how they were all supportive of each other and how she looked really moved by the drag queen who was singing quite beautifully. I was tearing up with “Make You Feel My Love” and laughing out loud when the girls start to get it, especially the one who is all like: HOLD ME, I’M FAINTING! hahaha. Adele is quite a good actress, if I wouldn’t know better, I would have bought her stage fright.
I loved that too. I was expecting some snark that would have been embarrassing when she revealed who she was, but they were all so lovely towards each other and to her.
It was well worth watching. Funny, yet brought a tear. She really did a good acting job.
I want that red sweater coat
I had pretty much given up on SNL being funny, but that Thanksgiving skit may end up being added to the SNL classics.
I think the last time SNL was funny was also a Thanksgiving video skit. They should probably just stick to Thanksgiving
FINALLY-SNL is funny. All roads lead back to Adele. She is authentic and incredibly talented with a self-deprecating sense of humour.
Goodbye to TS and the Kartrashians. Permanent Hello to Adele. Best festivus present ever.
All of that was good. I love it when SNL is funny…I’m always rooting for it. The world always needs to laugh and there’s so many talented people out there.
Had Hello not played 20 times in a single day on all my radio stations I might enjoy it. Now it’s relentless noise.
Love the reactions!
My two obsessions from the new albums are Send My Love (this might be my favorite Adele song ever!) and Remedy. That song is so beautiful.
That prank she pulled was also amazing. I watched that video multiple times, and laughed every time.
She is just everything. So talented, on so many levels. Okay, I’m done. Lol
I am totally obsessed with Water Under The Bridge. It’s my absolute favorite from the album. Also love Remedy.
@Alexandra – I have the melody of Water Under The Bridge stuck in my head; I keep singing the chorus.
What’s up with Palin sending her a thank you note? WTH
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3328718/Very-kind-Sarah-Palin-sends-Adele-effusive-thank-note-superstar-singer-credits-U-S-success.html
In response to Jane and others up above: Adele is a great singer and she’s in a lane all her own. But I really wish people would stop putting other singers and entertainers down just to lift her up. There is place for variety. They’re in the entertainment business, and different people are entertained by different types of performances. No need for the comparisons. Furthermore, there are many artists who can sing just as well as her but haven’t get the exposure/fame she has gotten. Chrisette Michele, Ledisi and Jazmine Sullivan just to name a few. Adele is not the only person to sing with an amazing voice without twerking or dressing skimpily. But if an artist chooses to do so, then I also believe there’s nothing wrong with that. Just wanted to share my opinion since I see the same comments in every post. People use Adele threads to criticize singers that they feel aren’t “proper” when you could really just give Adele praise for doing what she does so well and leave it at that.
+1
It’s annoying to see someone like Adele being used to slam others like it’s a zero sum game.
Thank you Almondjoy! The slutshaming coments like the ones above feed into the Madonna/Whore rhetoric that gets pushed onto so many women. If we want women to be valued for more than just their bodies, men AND women need to stop assigning value to them based on how much clothes they’re wearing. Like you said, there is room for both.
i watched a clip, was it 60 minutes AU?
Adele said exactly as you said: different type of presentations for different types of songs.
she also enjoys the big productions. the dance, spectacle, and sharks and stuff (she’s a huge fan of Britney and Bey, and great friends with many other pop singers like Jessie J right?).
and she really wanted to do it if she could. she’s even a bit jealous 😀
and it’s not even because of her body size. but she thought that her material (the kind of things she sings and her music) just doesn’t suit the spectacles. i think i agree with her, i just can’t fathom Someone Like You done any other way than the way she did it at the Brit awards.
btw, seeing that you mentioned Jazmine Sullivan, don’t you think Send My Lover has a bit of Jazmine vibe (especially Love You Long Time) or Mika (like Grace Kelly) maybe?
Water under the bridge is very Eurythmics to me.
my favorite in the album is Million Years Ago and Sweet Devotion.
i hope there is some way to get the Special Target Edition songs overseas too. hopefully it will be available on iTunes very soon. i know it’s an exclusive Target track and i see the company shells out a lot of advertising money and whatnot on it. but surely it’s not a ‘forever exclusive’ thing?
does anyone know how long this exclusivity lasts?
Thank you AlmondJoy!
I was going to write something similar, though not as eloquently as you put it. Well said.
You have your opinion and I have mine, but I’ll leave you with this…. as a person who has worked with children for 30 years I will not have to explain improper actions of Adel or other great singers like Streisand Annie Lennox etc. to students. However, counseling students as to why it is not proper to act like some singers do in videos or on award shows is a constant battle we face in our profession.
While my school might be the minority, we had to forbid 4th-6th graders from wearing Halloween costumes to school this year because some came last year dressed provocatively as their musical idols. I also blame the parents for letting them leave the house that way, but still, the kids were bummed they couldn’t dress sexy.
Try explaining to an 11 year old why is not proper to sing “Bang Bang” and strut in the hallways.
Try telling girls it is OK to have friends, but you shouldn’t have a “Squad” striking poses in the hall, to let people look at them like Taylor does.
Try convincing that Nikki’s Hey Mamma has nothing to do with being a mother and it is something else.
Try explaining to parents the reason why a girl served an after school detention because she was grinding her rear end against a locker to make the boys look. She got the idea from a musical performance on TV.
Try dealing with the entire 4th,5th and 6th grade in an emergency meeting to explain that slapping each other’s rear ends at recess and calling it Slap A$$ Friday is considered sexual harassment and could cause a suspension. Students got the idea from rap videos.
All of these events DID NOT take place at one school, but around the school district.
This is why I support the dealings of great singers. The antics I could do without. I have to deal with them on a completely different level as most people here.
I have worked with children for about 15 years and I’ve been a Child Care Director at an elementary school for 5. So I know exactly what you’re talking about. Everything you’re telling me to “try” is something I deal with on a regular basis. However, we are not talking about what’s appropriate for children here. This is not a children’s forum. These are not children’s entertainers we’re speaking of. That is a completely different conversation. If you want to talk about children, we can do that. Children are my life. But that has nothing to do with my original statement. I stand by everything I said.

“People use Adele threads to criticize singers that they feel aren’t “proper” when you could really just give Adele praise for doing what she does so well and leave it at that. ”
This. Why does one artist have to be everything to everyone? Variety is the spice of life, as they say.
thanks Almondjoy, for your music recommendation. I just checked out the artists you mentioned. They’re excellent!
@Almond Joy thank you for saying this. The artist you mentioned are amazing, and personally ones I prefer to Adele, whom I find in interviews charming but musically bland but they don’t get the same exposure because they arent white artists and are not marketed towards all demography’s. It is a shame and something I wish would change, but I feel like it would take the shattering of a lot of set in stone ways to make that happen.
Either way your recommendations and comments are on point.
That voice! ANd that face! Are you kidding me. Wow. Tbh, she is so my girl crush. And I stupidly listened to “Hello” late at night after two martinis. People…don’t drink and Adele.
Totally know what you mean. I was about 3/4 of the way through a bottle of wine last night, during her SNL performance.
You know that just got me thinking, especially with all the memes I see revolving around drinking, crying , and Adele…She should start selling album packages that include her songs, a bottle of wine, and box of tissues 😀
It would totally be a hit!
I bought the target version with the 3 bonus tracks and they are amazing! I can’t remember the last time I bought a cd of a album and it was totally worth the trip
I just got the Target version yesterday — I prefer the bonus tracks to some of the actual album songs. Good stuff!
Gah! I wish had had known about the Target tracks before I preordered the albums on iTunes!! So it’s worth getting? Do I really have to buy this album again?! I totally would. Lol
I had a startlingly cranky infant/toddler She cried what seemed like nonstop from the time she was 3 weeks old until about age 2 – the only thing that would *instantly* get her to stop was “Someone Like You”. This skit was pretty close to real life for us. 🙂
Fun fact for The Voice viewers: That’s Amanda Brown singing backup vocals again for Adele.
Thank you for pointing that out, I probably wouldn’t have noticed. I loved Amanda when she was one The Voice. She is so talented!
Wow that’s great! I rarely watch that show but I do remember her and she was very talented.
The song remedy is so beautiful! I live this album is going non stop since friday! 😃
I love “When We Were Young”. Songs don’t usually get me emotional but this one makes me teary-eyed. I also love “Send My Love”. I hope it becomes a single since it’s different from her previous releases.
She’s got a great voice and seems like someone who’d be tremendous fun to hang out with. And I can’t get enough of the impersonation video. Drama and kindness!
‘I miss you’ is my everything right now! Loved the Thanksgiving skit! As someone who loves my senseless music (Kesha, Taylor Swift, Rhiana, Katy Perry, Brittney, even a few Gaga songs and Nikki Minaj songs) there is a place for everyone. Just wish parents would do their job sensoring what their kids listen to!
I’ve always found her to be so refreshing, she seems like such an awesome person, and incredibly genuine.
The Adeles video cracked me up. She’s actually funny to be around!
My favourite song, so far, is Water Under the Bridge. But I’m sure it will change after listening to 25 all over again.
She is FAT and need to go on exercise and good diet. !! Celebitchy, I know you are going to sensor my comment and here is my face when I am giving a rat’s ass!!!
She is FAT and need to go on exercise and good diet. !! Celebitchy, I know you are going to sensor my comment and here is my face when I am giving a rat’s ass!!!
Only gross ( on Welfare) People will like her big fat ass!! because they also have a big fat ass and can totally understand her lifestyle!! She is lucky to have a nice voice and the fact that her voice is recognized in the whole world. Otherwise she would have been that half addicted starving artist who strangles for paying the bills month to month.!!! LUCKY YOU DEAR ADELE!!
@almondjoy I am not going to get into a battle of wits with you. I will go to my grave with my views. Bless you…….
