It’s not that I forgot about Coco Austin’s pregnancy, it’s that I forgot that she was so far along. Coco and Ice-T announced the pregnancy when she was far into her second trimester, yet she was barely showing. She was still barely showing when she posted a bunch of bump photos in the past few days (like the Christmas tree photo, where she identifies herself as 37 weeks along). She carried SO small. Crazy-small. And now Coco has given birth to a tiny baby!
Surprise!!! Look who came early!! Welcome the new arrival of Chanel Nicole.. A beautiful healthy 5.7 pound and 18 inch baby girl .Ice and I are so proud! I cried while she was coming out I was so excited to meet her!
The only real surprise is that Coco gave birth three weeks early. Ice and Coco announced they were having a girl several months ago, and they also had the name all picked out. I still don’t like that they named their daughter Chanel, quite honestly. But I think including “Nicole” in the name is fine – that’s Coco’s real name. I’m assuming the baby will be going by Ice-T’s real last name, which is Marrow. Chanel Marrow… it could either way. I’m hoping that Ice puts his foot down and demands that they raise their daughter to prioritize education over superficiality. Ice’s son (from a previous relationship) turned out really well, so here’s hoping. Congrats to Ice and Coco!

I guess she overcame the challenge of being so incredibly “petite down there.” I don’t care for Coco at all. I think she’s tacky, conceited and not very bright. But I’ve always liked Ice, I suppose because of Law & Order, which is a dumb reason to like someone, but there it is. So congratulations. Try to bring your daughter up to have a brain. Poor thing is wrapped in a dish towel.
the baby is wrapped in a blanket from the hospital! lol it DOES look like a dishtowel, but for whatever reason, those are the blankets the hospital uses.
Yes, I was just kidding. Most mothers I know bring a receiving blanket to the hospital so you don’t see those old rags in pictures very often. They look so scratchy and dirty, though I’m sure they’re clean.
That, believe it or not is a receiving blanket – probably from the hospital. And they don’t look the best because they are not gently washed as one would do at home. Sorry this was to GNAT and we must have been posting at the same time. This may have been taken fairly soon after delivery thus the use of the hospital blanket.
They are also flannel, which will pill like that after repeated washings.
I kept both of my kids wrapped in the hospital blankets even when we were back in our room because those blankets are kept in the warmers and when they start to cool down, the baby gets wrapped in a new warm one. This was especially helpful with my son as I was stuck in bed and not allowed to get up for three days. The blankets kept him happy and calm while I was recovering.
@GNAT – I’ve actually seen quite a few celebs post photos of their newborns wrapped in the very same blankets. They seem to be a standard US hospital issue item. Echoing what the ladies before me said, this picture was probably taken quite soon after the birth because the hospital blankets are sterilised.
@GNAT, hospitals will let you take your baby home in your own receiving blanket, but use the hospital issue ones immediately after birth.

You have good instincts. I met Ice-T at the height of his touring with Body Count at a Lollapalooza concert. His band was not due to play for a couple hours but he was walking around the crowd near the stage in between two of the acts just talking to fans. He stopped to talk to my boyfriend and I and he was so laid back. He was not in any hurry and we talked to him for a good ten minutes. Totally nice guy, down to earth, it was amazing. We discussed music and how much fun we were having at the concert.
I met several famous musicians while bartending at a large hotel near an amphitheater which was a venue for many big name acts in early 90’s and Ice-T is one of the top 3 nicest I ever met. For this reason I will always like his wife. She obviously makes him happy and he credits her with making him the man he is today.

That doesn’t mean we should all hate him and it doesn’t mean that he hasn’t changed, but it’s worth pointing out that Ice T is likely still atoning for some seriously shady deeds.

I met Ice T at a Body Count concert in 90’s at Paris ( France) .I was one of the rare female fans at the concert and the security team was worried for me because their concerts were “energic” and the concert room was tiny. The band came to talk with some fans after the concert. They asked me how a white French teen girl could be fan .
They both seem like nice people. He always says “happy wife, happy life”, it’s so simple but true. Happy for them both, what a wonderful early Christmas gift!
@GNAT, I usually find myself liking Coco against my own will. I don’t care for the name Chanel, it’s just as try hard and snob wanna be as Herme, in my opinion. And I’m not sure why Kaiser thinks Ice-T will “put his foot down” about prioritizing education before superficiality. He chose to marry a woman who seems to model herself after what she thinks is the male fantasy. Perhaps his son turned out well because he’s a male, and thus not expected to dye his hair blonde, install gigantic breast implants, dress like Peg Bundy, and talk like Marilyn Monroe.
BTW, the ASPCA once raided a huge puppy mill. One of the dogs that absolutely broke my heart had been born with her back legs paralyzed, and never been given medical attention. She was severely deformed. A generous viewer made a specialized set of wheels for her, and for the first time in her life she was mobile. She was the #5 dog from the puppy mill, so they named her Chanel.
I saw their reality show a while back, and while she doesn’t seem very bright, she seems like a genuinely good person. A bit tacky, but really nice. They also seemed to really love eachother.
Also, why is the Christmas tree out so early? I mean, in my country we don’t decorate them until Christmas Eve, but I know in some countries people start earlier. But it isn’t even December?
Growing up, our tree went up the day after Thanksgiving (11/26 this year). I notice some people now have their trees up before Thanksgiving dinner. I can’t imagine going to all that trouble to only have the tree up a day or two, but everyone has their own tradition.
Well it goes down on the 6th of January ( Epiphany or Three Kings’ Day).

Think she is smart actually and plays dumb. She runs all of their finances and side businesses. Thought she was dingy until I watched their reality show and realized she is running the show in their house. She is no dummy, maybe smarter than people that think she is dumb. Seem to be a very happy couple and it was one of the few reality shows I liked watching. Have no shame in admitting it was one of my favorite reality shows.
We put our tree up on Thanksgiving, but she might have gotten it up early because they were expecting the baby. That would be an afterthought once that kiddo was born!
I think CoCo is a lot brighter than she appears. Ice-T is quite intelligent himself and he obviously has a high opinion of her abilities. He encourages her to do things. She just adopted the outward appearance of “dumb girl”, it’s a social thing in the USA at least, starting in childhood (you learn to try to hide your intelligence in school). She also seems like a kind person to me.
If it was taken right after she was born, it makes sense. I wasn’t given the option with either of my sons to put them in a receiving blanket from home; they immediately went into the receiving blankets/hats the hospital had prepared. The whole “first outfit/receiving blanket” thing came as we left the hospital, not right after the birth. It makes sense for a lot of reasons – sanitary reasons, liability issues, etc.
Well, certainly it’s good the baby was so petite! Bah.
I think Coco appeared to carry small because her waist is literally the only small thing about her, so pregnant she finally looked well proportioned. I do hate that mincing way she is posing next the Christmas tree.
Also her stomach muscles were probably really tight and strong due to her love of exercise and weightlifting. Beyonce carried similarly and folks refused to believe she was pregnant (pillow baby). I’m assuming she watched her diet cautiously too.
They’re both a mess lol, but it seems like real love. Ice T seems like he’s settled down. He has a past. He seems ok now. More power to them and congrats on the baby.

The average weight of a baby should be 5-7 pounds not the 8-10 which it is pushing now a days.
She’s naturally skinny too if you look at old pictures of her. Imo, she bought her butt and boobs. So she’s not naturally thick. But yes she obviously works out a lot.

Nope. My first was 5 lbs 10 oz, and she was barely even within the weight range for a newborn (barely in the 5th percentile for weight and considered too small). 5-7 lbs is NOT a normal weight range for infants. No shade to Coco of course, her baby was three weeks early (as was mine), which explains the low birth weight.
Also, some women just carry small depending on their body type and the baby’s position. I did with both my kids (one was small and one average sized at birth) and had I gained a ton more weight during my pregnancies, my belly still would’ve looked small. My belly just doesn’t pop the way some women’s pop.
One of my girlfriends was a small carrier, actually, almost invisible carrier. She was pregnant in high school and couldn’t get up the nerve to tell her parents. Her water broke at the dinner table. I believe her total weight gain was about 12 pounds and the baby was 10ish. His position hid him the entire time. Almost no one knew she was pregnant and to this day people we went to school with are surprised when she says that her son is his age.
I was 5 lbs 12 oz when I was born, and here I am almost 40. My second was induced because the doctor said he was getting too big. He weighed 6 lb 7 oz. My first came naturally and weighed 6 lb. 12 oz. So, seriously, no shade to moms who have bigger babies, but if you have a small bone structure nature (and doctors) don’t want to wait too long. There’s nothing wrong with babies just because they’re under 7 lbs. They can grow and thrive just like bigger babies.
What are you references? 5.5-10lbs is the normal newborn weight range. 6-7 are perfectly healthy newborn weights. I was 2 weeks early and weighed 6/3 and have been completely healthy. My first was 2.5 weeks early and 6/6 and my youngest was 5 weeks early and 5/5. She weighed enough to go home but her lungs were immature. 5.5-7 are def normal and totally fine “go home with mom” weights.
What a lot of misinformation, Ali.halon. The AVERAGE healthy baby weight is 7.5 pounds. That tells you that a healthy baby can be much more than 7 pounds. And 5 pounds is not NOT a healthy weight for a newborn. And women carry differently – you can be fit and healthy and not “carry small.” That is NOT an indication of the mother or baby’s health. Everything you said was completely inaccurate, and you seem much more concerned with vanity than health.
Meh, i think it’s more significant if the baby is early (or premature, which is different) than a low birth weight. I weighed 3.5 lbs at birth and my sister 4.5 lbs. And we are both freaky healthy when it comes to basic health and no learning issues. I think also race/ethnicity has an impact. My mom carried small.
You are so right about the average weight of a baby these days. When I was pregnant (35 years ago) the average weight was 7 lbs.
I’m not saying a healthy baby can’t weigh five pounds. I’m disputing her claim that “the average weight of a baby should be 5-7.” That’s ridiculous. You and your sister may be healthy, but your birth weights were lower than desirable, and you’re lucky.
+1 A coworker of mine “popped” big time and had an 8 lb baby, all while maintaining her usual pre pregnancy workout regimen and being generally very fit and healthy.
GNAT- I agree! I had gestational diabetes (runs in my family) so my baby’s weight & size was more monitored then most and I paid attention to what was “ideal”. I was on a very strict diet w/ blood tests 5 times a day. 5-7 lbs is not ideal. It’s fine & I’m sure the baby will be healthy & but this post is not accurate at all. My baby was just under 8 lbs which was considered in the range that most providers would wish for. I got lucky, though, that I carried to full term. Oh- and I carried so big since I am a small person naturally. How you carry is relative to so many factors that you can’t generalize based on it.
@GNAT – sing it, girl. Babies used to be much smaller because pregnant women were more likely to smoke and cut calories in hopes of a smaller baby. It is never the norm for a full-term baby to weigh five founds. That’s insane.
Not aimed at anyone just putting some facts that hospitals and the CDC use. Normal weight for a full term infant (38-42weeks gestation) is considered 5.5-8.8 pounds. Coco’s preemie baby is actually a good weight for coming 3-weeks early. Happy for them and I would rather be called Channel anyday than Apple. LOL. Coco may seem superficial but she sounds like she truly is in love with her baby which is really the most important thing IMO.
Umm… I stayed healthy during my first pregnancy, gained a total of 30 pounds and gave birth to a 8 pound 12 ounce healthy baby girl.
My older sister just gained 10 pounds during her first pregnancy.Just after the delivery ,she weighed 5 pounds less than her normal weight and my nephew weighed 8 pounds.At her second pregnancy,she gained 15 pounds whereas during my pregnancy,I gained 50 pounds and I stayed heathy .

That is utter bs. I kept incredibly healthy and fit during my pregnancy and put on only 9kgs and I carried reasonably average and my baby was a healthy 8 pound 8. She was born 2 days before edd. She’s 3 now, tall and perfectly within weight range for her age/height.
Normal baby weight also depends on the size of the parents. I am small, below average short. My daughter was 2 weeks early (so, right on time) and was 6 lbs 4.5 oz and 14 inches long. She is a full grown woman of 4′ 11″. My son was 2 weeks early (again, right on time) and he was 7 lbs, 11 oz and 23 inches. He takes after his dad and is already as tall as me, but that still makes him smaller than most (not all) of the other 13 year olds running around. An 8-10 pound baby was not going to happen here. In fact, with both, they monitored the baby’s size as if either had gotten to the 9 pound range it would have been a concern both for mine and the baby’s health. We aren’t all programmed to pop out big babies. However, I do agree that 5-7 is not the average since every generation is usually bigger than the previous. Most of my friends babies were over 8, with one being 13 pounds. He’s a little tank and already almost 3 feet tall at 1 year old.
I also should have added that I do not carry small, none of the women in my family do. I was young and active with my daughter and gained 62 pounds and a decade later was working and active with my son and gained 74 pounds. Pregnancy is different for everyone and each one is different for the woman. If it was the same for everyone, prenatal care would be pretty basic.
@Ali.Hanlon – you don’t “carry small” because you keep your weight down and work out during pregnancy. My mother only gained 20 lbs with each pregnancy, was an ardent walker and swimmer during each pregnancy, and both my sister and I weighed 8 lbs at birth.
Nope, and nope. I carried my first just like her and he was 7,6 lb (3450 g – sorry I’m no good with this pounds and ounzes stuff). Perfectly normal birthweight for a full-term baby.
I don’t think she carried all that small. I think her chest got very large, which made her appear to carry smaller. I think the size of her “bump” (for lack of a better word) was probably quite normal.
I also like them, mainly because I like Ice. Like GNAT, I’m certain that I like him because of L&O (not that I’m oblivious to his past). They seem happy. I wish them and little Chanel more happiness and health.

You can take a baby home before they hit 5lbs. My son was born just over 4lbs 9.6oz and came home two days after at just over that – 4lbs 7oz. It only mattered that he brought his weight back up and was overall healthy.
Yikes, not even close to true. I’m not a big woman and I gained 23 with each of my babies and had an 8 lb, 12 oz girl at 40 weeks and a 9 lb, 8 oz boy at 41.5 weeks. We tend to have term/late term babies in my family, and I can’t think of a single baby under 7.5 lbs (going back a couple generations on my mom’s side).
Exercise and healthy eating will help with some of the weight gain, but it’s not a sure bet. Plenty of women go through hormonal changes that cause increased appetite, edema, and weight gain through pregnancy that undermines any attempts to offset it. She carries small because she got lucky – the baby sat low and not toward the middle of her body. My coworker is ENORMOUS right now despite the fact that she works on her feet and exercises regularly because the baby sits right on her pelvis. Five pounds is on the lower end of the scale for baby weight – the average is closer to 7-8 lbs. A ten pound baby can be problematic, but heavy babies are not usually a result of poor maternal health so much as medical issues (gestational diabetes) or late term carries.
Beyond that…it’s really tacky to suggest that there’s an optimal weight gain/appearance for pregnant women. THEY’RE PREGNANT. If there’s one period of a her life where women should be left alone about their physical appearance, it’s when her weight gain is caused by another person. Every pregnancy is different and every woman is different. My mother had three children, and she had dramatically different weight gain on each one. There are basic standards that give us an idea of what’s best for the mother and infant’s health, but none of them are gold standards that apply across the spectrum.
That is a bull statement. Normal range is between 6 and 8.5 lbs. 9 to ten is big, but relatively normal. A five lb baby is very small, and in some cases normal but usually small. That is dangerous information you are ignorantly spreading….
My baby was 8lbs 13 oz and I only gained 15 lbs during my pregnancy. She was 21 inches long which is tall and why she weighed that much. Your statement is ridiculous, I was an 8+ baby and so was hubby and that was 40 years ago. Some people make bigger babies some don’t. This was preemie which is why it’s small.

Kaiser: My name is the same as the baby’s, except mine is spelled differently. So of course I see nothing wrong with the name. Who knew Chanel was a bad name? I get compliments on it all the time. Neither of my parents are superficial, they just really liked the name.
I think your name is pretty, and I like the spelling. It’s not the sound of the name, it’s the fact that Coco probably chose the name Chanel after the brand name. Sort of like Marla Maples naming her daughter Tiffany after the store – there’s nothing wrong with the name Tiffany normally, but associating your child with a status brand is just kind of gross.
Thanks GNAT, and very good point. I hadn’t thought of it like that. My parents are the frugal, down to earth type and neither my mom nor I have ever owned anything by Chanel lol. I hear the name so often that I don’t even associate it with the brand.

Not surprising that she chose Chanel since her own name is CoCo. It means something to her personally. And it sounds nice.
The names Tiffany and Hermes are used commonly enough in their own right in various cultures. The mothers in question may have first heard them from the brand names, but that doesn’t mean the kids are being considered as brands…. If someone likes Amy’s Kitchen foods and decides they like the name Amy for their child, that doesn’t mean they mistake their child for an entree.

I think you are right that it’s a want of theirs to name their child after a designer. I have a friend who named her daughter after Chanel…her name is Gabrielle. On a side note one of my interior designers has cats named Dolce & Gabbana but says Gabbana is a real diva 🙂

A friend recently had a baby that was 3 weeks early and less than 6 pounds. No, this is NOT an average, healthy weight for a newborn. It’s the weight of a fetus who hasn’t finished her in utero life yet. My friend’s baby has to be fed very carefully on an exact schedule to get her to gain weight and the baby basically sleeps all the time. These “late-term preemies” are basically living the life of a fetus outside the womb.

Eh, not all do. Mine didn’t and at almost 2 still doesn’t sleep a lot. She is just too damn interested in what’s going on.
My niece was the same (little thing attended her own baby shower). Keeping the feeding schedule was rough. When they’re early they sleep a lot, especially when warm, so we had to feed her unswaddled and held away from us. It was the only way to keep her awake long enough to eat.

I wonder what these women think when they have baby girls that look like them pre/surgery?? Are they sad that they altered their image so much? I constantly think about this with Kim and North. To me, it’s really sad. That being said, beautiful baby girl welcome to the world! You have two parents that will be crazy about you! This little girl will be good for them both!

My boy was three weeks early as well and he was 7 lbs and 3 oz and 21 inches long and very healthy. You just never know when they will want to come.

I’ve had a 7lb, 11oz 37 weeker, 8lb2oz 38 weeker, and a 5lb4oz 39 weeker. 5 pounds is NOT a normal average birth weight.

I lost 20 lbs with my first pregnancy and 15 with my second. I was one of the lucky ones (please note the dripping sarcasm that probably doesn’t come across in a post on the internet) to basically have morning sickness my entire pregnancy. My husband was practically force feeding me food by the end so I could stay on the calorie count the OB gave me. My first was born seven weeks early and I barely showed at all. She was no bigger than me, I don’t think. Kiddo was 3 lbs 5 oz. Second made it to 37 weeks, and still was only 5 1/2 lbs. I doubt she had my problem (or she’s hidden it well) but I sure didn’t feel healthy for being tiny or having tiny babies.

37 weeks is not a preemie. Isn’t it considered “term” and 39 weeks is “full term?”
Most women carry 39-41 weeks for full term. It’s considered optimal to carry to that period because it’s closer to proper weight gain and development. Babies have limited ability to thermally regulate, so the closer to full term weight, the better. “Term” is generally used to refer to the fact that the baby is fully developed and will likely avoid a NICU visit – not that it can’t happen or that it’s the best thing to do. It’s not what we think of colloquially as a preemie, but it’s still technically premature by medical definition.
My youngest was born at 36 weeks. She was considered “pre-term” but not a preemie.
