Here are some great photos of Kristen Stewart flying solo at a NYC industry-screening of Clouds of Sils Maria. I’ve been hoping that she would do this – get more involved in the Oscar season hustle, host some industry screenings, lip-bite her way through some industry interviews. And she is! By the way, I think she looks great here. I’m really enjoying her hair length these days, and this Aeta Oceanie suit is the business – it’s perfect for this event. She looks stylish, professional, pretty and pulled-together.
I’m posting these photos and talking about Clouds of Sils Maria because Kristen has just scored ANOTHER critics award for Best Supporting Actress. She’s already picked up awards from the Boston Critics Association and the New York Critics Circle, not to mention coming in second place at the LA Critics Association Awards, plus a slew of other nominations AND becoming the first American actress to win a Cesar. Now Kristen has picked up the Best Supporting Actress Award from the National Society of Film Critics. It’s not some far-out award either – the NSFC is a good indicator of what mainstream film critics think. They awarded Spotlight with the Best Picture Award, Charlotte Rampling with Best Actress and Mark Rylance with Best Supporting Actor. Todd Haynes and Tom McCarthy split the Best Director vote and Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor (yay!).
Do I have a point? I don’t know. Kristen keeps winning critics’ awards, but she didn’t get a Golden Globe or SAG nomination. I don’t think anyone even considered putting any money into her campaign, so all of these critics’ awards are coming out of nowhere. I’m not being facetious when I say this: I really hope she surprises everyone and gets an Oscar nomination. That would be AMAZING.
PS… Here are some photos of Kristen at last night’s New York Film Critics Circle Awards. Her dress is Chanel. While I’m not crazy about the dress, Kristen looks really cute here. I think our lip-biter has grown up!!! God, I really want her to get an Oscar nom.

I havent seen this film and I did watch some of those atrocious Twilight films but I too would love to see her score an Oscar nom. I just cant wait for the pointless outrage. Some people are so hilarious and dont even know it.
It would be OTT from both sides and that’s all i wish for. Like Emma Stone got Nominated last year.. the nomination bar is very low as it is.

I like her and I’m not a Twilight fan. I think she grew as an actress and I hope she gets the Oscar nom… in my opinion it was ridiculous her cut from the Snow White and they making a prequel. .. ridiculous!
I want Stewart to get a nom just to see the amount of hysteria it would cause but I think her production company screwed her over. I was reading a very good article about this yesterday..

Never saw a single Twilight. The only thing I remember about SW & the Huntsman is Charlize, so I came to her recent performances bias free. I thought she was excellent in both Still Alice and Sils Maria. Very subtle performances. I wouldn’t have a problem with a nomination.
PS. Yay!!! Mark Rylance. He’s been my choice since the day Bridge of Spies opened. A haunting performance.
I hope she gets a nomination. I want Jennifer Jason Leigh to actually win, but I’d be perfectly okay with KS winning.

KStew’s indiscretions – at the time – tanked her new prospective franchise, they need to get her back on track so she can be what they intended her to be.
She’s got a niche where people seem to think she’s not fake or at least not like the other fakers, and a rabidly loyal cache of defenders, so that needs to be exploited, frankly: the ptb see too many potential dollar signs in her future.
I think her acting has somewhat improved since Twilight but an Osacr nom, that’s a bit much but then again if Sienna Miller can get a GG nom….
Amber Heard will b spitting nails about this for sure. She was in Danish Girl and is married to Johnny Depp so deserves a nom.
Actually, I thought Amber Heard was quite good in her small role in “Danish Girl”. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in anything before!
Kristen may not be the best actress, but she has that most elusive thing: STAR QUALITY. I love her, she is a true original, dark, edgy, a non conformist. In short, she is everything that Amber Heard never will be.
As much as i would love it, IFC have screwed her over with not bothering to campaign. I think she would have been a shoe in for a nomination if they were on the ball. I doubt she would have won because Vikander/Rooney have much bigger movies, but the stats tell us that any actress who wins the amount of critic awards and noms that Kristen has (and the no small deal of the first American to win a Cesar) should be nominated.
By the way, i saw Ex Machina, Alicia was good but Oscar worthy? Maybe she was better in Danish Girl and it’s for her year’s work. I thought Oscar Isaac was great in it.
Rooney was terrific in Carol. She and Cate were hot!
I believe IFC is now putting a little money in for a campaign for her. Hopefully it pays off for her.
I feel like Mugatu in that final scene of Zoolander. Like, did I take crazy pills? She acts the same way in every movie: like herself. The only reason that worked in Sils Maria was because that character was exactly like her. If she gets an oscar nom that would wipe off the small ammount of credibility I still have for them. I won’t lose sleep about it but it will turn them into a real joke.

No she won’t.
And Im not saying that because she’s bad or anything…its just the supporting actress race is already too crowded (especially if Vikander and Mara go that way). Plus, the film itself doesn’t seem to be getting too much attention, plus she’s missed out on bigger precursors like SAG or Golden Globes.
I think she could get a nom. There’s always 1-2 nominees that tend to be overlooked by SAG/Globes and praised by the critics. Plus, with Best Supporting Actress being in such a flux over whether or not the 2 presumed frontrunners, Vikander and Mara, are even nominated in the category instead of lead, Stewart could definitely slide in under the radar. It’s crowded, but she’s getting all the right mentions. With Vikander v. Mara v. Category fraud is dominating the conversation, no other actress is getting consistent press/mentions/awards like Stewart is in the category.
Never saw twilight,I’m not exactly the target.I know her from The Runaways, the film with Gandolfini and Melissa Leo, Adventureland and Into the Wild, and another one with Sutherland (Fierce People I think ).
I found her quite good in each of them, and don’t see what’s so atrocious in her performances. I’ve been more annoyed by other starlets presented as acting wonders.
Not atrocious just repetitive. Same dead eyes, same expressions; and she plays each role as part of herself which she freely admits that she does because to her acting = playing yourself. The only film where she appeared to truly act as someone else in multiple dimensions was when she was a child actor playing Jodie Foster’s daughter in the Fincher film.
She is too arrogant to take some acting courses to improve her skills but is always happy to go on about how lacking other people are. Sorry but too many worthy nominees who actually created a character and become that person that is not them.
But hope springs eternal so her fans can keep campaigning for her on gossip sites as though it’s a people’s choice awards.
Her agent and PR people deserve an Oscar more like.
Notice how she keeps getting attention for one role over and over, as opposed to an actual body of work or roles plural. Pretty much because the Caesar award is what gave her performance credibility, not the other way around.
But they can keep on with this career rehab crusade mess. Clouds is a film most people won’t be overly familiar with and will probably miss entirely, so if they get a nom or win public opinion is unlikely to contradict them, and the general public hearing about it will simply capitulate to the idea that she’s now an amazing actress.
So, her team’s not stupid and should get some kind of kudos.
Only thing that’ll be annoying is how big ‘artiste’ Stew’s head will get. So put money on there being even more obnoxious interviews from her in 2016.
I watched Clouds of Sils Maria last night and my response was “She’s won awards for that?” Her performance was competent not amazing.
I liked her in this movie. But poor Juliette! Life imitates art. The aging actress in the film gets overshadowed by a younger starlet, played by Chloe Moretz, although in this case, it’s Kristen. I thought she was excellent in this. I can see why Kristen is getting more attention from it. Her character was more interesting, despite being the actual low key character.
Not really. I thought Binoche was great, and Stewart was adequate to okay in that she was neither shrill nor a robot, mostly that engendered relief not rapture; for me, she never became her character which was a let down. Maybe she did for other people. Her character was the voice of reason though. I only found out on these comments later Mia Wasikowska was originally for the part which retroactively makes me disappointed it didn’t happen but I was meh on Stew before that news.
I find it kind of awkward, however, that a film about an older actress being kind put out to pasture is being made about the lesser performance of the younger actress.
Wonder how long before they add Binoche congratulating Stewart to this narrative? It might need it.
I completely agree about the awkwardness of this! And also find it strange, because as I’ve said here before, I thought Kristen was fine in Clouds, but Juliette was light years better in my eyes, and with a much more difficult role to play.
And I also could picture Mia in the role of Valentine and think that she would have taken the character and her relationship with Juliette’s character to a whole new level……but then again, I think Mia has been great in everything I’ve seen her in, so I may be biased!
I guess the Kristen Stewart “it” factor is just lost on me? I don’t feel strongly about her either way, she’s just vanilla to me in terms of her characterizations.
Well I see her team keeps bribing those anonymous critics to give her recognition and push her into awards nominations. There are probably like 5 critics in those “Boston critics” stuff. Not hard to bride.

I must have missed you saying it. I would have been happy that someone else was saying it too. I remember watching Clouds and thinking Binoche did an amazing job in a less likeable part (than her long-suffering assistant) but then all the noise became about Stewart and I just wasn’t seeing it.
Actually, I kept wondering what if Stewart had played Moretz’ part, it would have been interesting to see her play angry in that car scene but I could see how that would have ended up too close to real life. As it was, her a Valentine just seemed…okay.
So I had to presume people thought she couldn’t act from the Twilight series which is interesting because:
a) It seemed to me that reviewers were never scornful of her in those films (Joe Public was but that’s another thing). They said something polite or nothing and picked on someone/something else.
b) The Twilight series is like the Star Wars prequels: you can’t use it as a barometer for any of the actors’ abilities, and imo, in the Twilight series most of the actors were mis-cast anyway.
So when she surpassed their lowered expectations they gave her accolades rather than just admit their assumptions were wrong.
Frankly, if they want to sell me on Stewart’s acting credibility it might help if they weren’t selling her on ONE small part where she was adequate but somehow received a Caesar anyway. A lot seems to be swung on that. And it might be better received if it didn’t look a lot like trying to defribrillate her career after she essentially threw it under a bus.
The overenthusiastic defenders who pounce on any vaguely bad word about Stewart haven’t helped either (I’m talking more on other sites where they seem to have totally lost touch with reality in some places). I get being protective but her career didn’t go postal because somthing random and external happened her apropos of nothing but rather because of something she chose to do in the weirdest most obvious way ever. She kind of got consequences for it but they were literally her choices that no one forced on her.

I like Kristen but I wanted to comment on Juliette Binoche. She is such a lovely yet powerful actress. She is a pleasure to watch. I fell in love with her in Chocolate.
Unfortunately foreign actors never do well in the awards. Usually they are not even considered because they don’t play the game. Or rather it is more like a dance with very complicated rituals, rules and steps. You have to know the dance to dance it.
Well, Binoche has an Oscar already!
I’m so happy for Kristen! She deserves all the praise and it’s nice to see her so happy about it.
I’m also glad she’s getting accolades for this little movie about women. This movie premiered over a year ago at Cannes and it’s a great testament to her performance that it’s getting so much attention from critics in the year full of great performances. Not surprising though, it’s a logical conclusion considering she won by the majority critics pool at Cannes and made history with her Cesar win. Which was predicted by french critics.
Great performance, perfectly highlighting her strong body of work.
I just think Juliette and the movie itself should be getting more attention.
