I’m a HUGE Allison Janney fan, but I don’t get to write about her all that often. She’s a total workhorse, she consistently turns in interesting, brilliant and compelling work (minus her trainwreck CBS comedy), and she always seems like such a cool person. Allison has never been married and she seems happily child-free. I read an interview with her back when she was on The West Wing, and she basically has set up her house to be Party Central – she’s very into hostessing parties, game nights and having fun.
Janney has also had a string of younger lovers/boyfriends. She’s currently 56 years old and her latest boyfriend is 35 years old. His name is Philip Joncas and all I can say is… hot. Go girl. Get yours. Janney brought her boyfriend to Sundance, and when asked about him, she told E! News: “He’s pretty handsome.” When she was asked if they would get married, her answer was amazing:
Philip Joncas, a production coordinator and artist who is 20 year’s Janney’s junior, was by her side on the red carpet at the Eccles Theatre. After taking photos together, Joncas stepped away as the seven-time Emmy winner continued on to do interviews. Janney, 56, said they’ve been together for “about a year,” but we shouldn’t expect an engagement announcement anytime soon…or ever, for that matter.
“I don’t believe in that institution,” said Janney, who killed it on the carpet in tight green pants, a green sweater and suede snow boots.
I feel like there are more women in Hollywood who feel this way, but they feel the need to play the game of “maybe I want a wedding and babies” because that’s what society says we should want. I appreciate that Janney doesn’t play that game. She just goes from attractive young lover to attractive young lover. She should teach a class. And Jennifer Lopez should take it.

Just popped in to say she was so awesome in Drop Dead Gorgeous that I’m a fan for life.
Ha, great minds. I said the same thing!
I love that movie. Everyone was awesome in it, even Kirstie Alley.
I have loved her since “Drop Dead Gorgeous”. End of. Go get yours, Allison.
He is really handsome!
Yup. Love her lifestyle and candor. I’m happily married with kids and totally applaud her choices. Go girl
I dont particularly like the pants but I wish I could rock them like her when I turn 56.
Aaahhh, Drop Dead Gorgeous! That movie is a gem. Janney is a true talent and should be celebrated often. She was fantastic as CJ Cregg, too.
“Most smartest….. Best damned tapper….”
I love it!!
I really like her attitude. She lives in a world where the majority – maybe even vast majority – of marriages end in divorce. Come to think of it, even in the ‘real world’, so many marriages end in divorce. So why should Allison get married? It’s not like she needs the social approval, and she has no children and is presumably well able to support herself financially. Of course, I’m not saying everyone who gets married does so for the above reasons, but if you don’t feel a desire for marriage, why do it ‘just because’?
I also think there’s this widespread attitude that just because a relationship doesn’t last forever, or doesn’t last a long time, that it has ‘failed’. Of course, this is usually only applied to women – with men, they are seen as playboys if they go through a lot of lovers in a short time. But in some cases, a relationship might work at one stage in your life, and not another. That doesn’t mean it’s a ‘failure’ if you enjoyed some happy times together. Not everything is meant to last forever, and that’s OK.

Your comment is such a perfect articulation of the truth. Thank you, I couldn’t have written it better myself!
I love this, and I love her. If I had lots of money and an amazing job that took me all over the world, I wouldn’t get married or have kids either.
I’m not rich and I don’t have an amazing job, but I don’t want marriage or kids either!
I didn’t mean that people who aren’t rich and don’t have amazing jobs SHOULD have kids.
She’s the best- she’s in so many shows and movies and always gives a great performance.
Good for her for living the way she wants to.
I love her! Just seeing her face makes me want to rewatch the entirety of The West Wing. KEEP THE JANNEY ARTICLES COMING.
I may be in the minority, but I really don’t care for her at all. And I’ve heard not-so-good things about her through the grapevine …
I wish people would accept it when I say I don’t want to get married. I hate hearing “if you met the right person you’d change your mind”. No, no I wouldn’t.
Same with having kids. “Oh but you’ll regret it later!” Thanks for your concern, but I’m pretty sure I won’t.
Yeah I had my tubes tied this year and the level of badly masked horror from friends that I would make such a permanent decision without having already had children was nuts. People always assume I hate kids. I love them. If they belong to someone else
I didn’t want kids and in 13 years of marriage, I’ve never changed my mind.
@tiffany
The people who respond with that are hoping you’ll join them in their domestic misery 😉 don’t indulge them, just smile and nod!
I was married and had kids, but my husband died, and I hate that question about getting married again too. I can pull the dead husband card, and that usually shuts people up real quick. Funny I know my husband would be laughing hysterically if he knew I did that, he would find real humor in it, makes me feel less guilty. People really are too pushy with the traditional ideas. Really if you don’t want kids you shouldn’t have them. Tip they are only fun if you want them and then sometimes still not fun. Can’t imagine not wanting them and dealing with the inevitable stuff that comes with being a parent. More power to Allison whatever floats her boat.I don’t think I will get married again, not because of my marriage, just because I don’t see the point either.
YOU GO GLEN COCO.
GET IT SHAWTY!! though if i was getting my back blown out by a young tender like that, I too would be entirely f*cks Deficient
QQ, your comments are a never-ending delight. Young tender indeed. <3
I aspire to be that woman!
You go Allison!!! He’s handsome 🙂
Yes he is!
Her smile is infectious. 🙂
So true!
Great actress, great body, hot boyfriend!!! Love younger men!!!
I don’t get what’s so bad about marriage, what’s so wrong about two people wanting to make it official. If someone doesn’t want to.. Okay but how come everyone makes marriage the reason for it not working out?
Alison was hilarious in 10 Things I Hate About You.
“Keep it in your pouch, Kangaroo boy”.
I’ve loved her since she was smart-alek maid Ginger on the Guiding Light in the 80s. LOL IT’s been great to watch her go from one career triumph to another–and in TV and movies, drama and comedy.
