Again, I’m not really sure what the interest level is for stories about The People vs. O.J. Simpson miniseries. I actually think the miniseries will be well-done and well-acted, and it will probably introduce a new generation to what was then the biggest true-crime story ever. Younger kids don’t even realize how the OJ Simpson drama dominated headlines and news for an entire year. I even remember being in school and the teacher turning on the TV to hear the verdict.
Anyway, these are some photos from last night’s LA premiere event. I’m including pics of David Schwimmer (who plays Robert Kardashian Sr.) and his wife Zoe Buckman. Also included: Courtney B. Vance (Johnny Cochran), Cuba Gooding (OJ), John Travolta (Robert Shapiro), Selma Blair (Kris Jenner) and Sarah Paulson (Marcia Clark). Paulson’s gown is Stella McCartney. Selma’s gown is Derek Lam. Is it just me or does Selma look SO MUCH like Kris here?
Previously, David Schwimmer seemed to throw a bit of shade at the current crop of the Kardashians, even rejecting offers to meet with Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, apparently. But Schwimmer was interviewed by EW this week, and he had some really nice things to say about Kris Jenner. Some highlights:
On Kris Jenner: “I was lucky enough to speak to Kris Jenner for a few hours….It could’ve been [awkward] but she was so warm and generous with her time. We spoke for a few hours in real detail because I wanted to know who he was as a husband and a father. He was a real family man and he had a lot of strong values and ethics. There’s a lot about him that I actually can identify and relate to with him, especially the loyalty.
Honoring Robert’s legacy: “No one really knows who he was and his legacy is very different. Obviously, the Kardashian name is very different from who he was. I do feel a responsibility to try and honor him and who he was and his spirit.
Whether he changed his opinion on the Kardashians: “No. I don’t know any of them personally, so I don’t really have an opinion. I have a higher opinion of Kris Jenner because she was so lovely on the phone for two hours. I find it really interesting to just understand who he was and what they must have been like as young children with their father. That’s what I kind of focus on.”
I feel like he’s between a rock and a hard place. Kris must have helped him a great deal with his research and she was genuinely nice to him, so he doesn’t want to diss the entire family. But he still wants it to be pretty clear that he’s not all about the Kardashians.

Yes, I am very excited about this miniseries and will be watching it, and YES to Selma’s hair!
Me too! i’m ready for it, I think also The biggest miscast was Cuba for OJ, No?? everyone else is pretty accurate
I’m hoping that Cuba is going to knock it out of the park.
Cuba hasn’t landed for me as spot-on casting yet, but maybe that’s because the rest of the cast is just perfect? I’m open to being surprised! =)
I wasn’t taught math for all of 7th grade. We were handed worksheets and my teacher had the trial on. We weren’t allowed to interrupt with questions.
Must’ve been something about math teachers. I was in 10th grade, but my Trig teacher would always have the tv on…
OMG!!! Me too!! My math teacher was really into it as well.
And they wonder why there’s such a push for STEM education now. OJ robbed us of our math education!
I was in high school and vividly remember everyone in the school gathered around TVs for the verdict. Such a crazy time.
My father in law was obsessed. He was an MD-but I swear he saw no patients during the trial-he spent all his time watching it.
I was in my first year of college. Our professor (and all the professors apparently) told us class would be dismissed early because of the verdict. This was before the age of smart boards and wifi for you young ‘uns. Everyone on campus filed into the student center to watch the verdict on the big screen tv. What was most surprising to me, was that all the African American students cheered when the verdict was “not guilty”.
I was in the 8th grade and they put the verdict over the loud speaker. THE LOUD SPEAKER! When it came through some of the students were screaming for joy. I couldn’t believe it. I think I saw the back of my head I rolled my eyes so hard.
I like Selma’s dress and I think she is much, much prettier than Kris.
Yeah, PMK wishes. Selma is gorgeous.
yes. she’s elegant and full of klass, unlike the kardashian
Cuba Gooding Jr. is giving me Saturday Night Fever/sleazeball/Johnny Depp vibes with that outfit.
I remember watching the verdict at school. My math teacher was really into the trial and when ” not guilty ” was given out, she looked like someone had kicked her in the gut.
I automatically get disgusted when anything involving Kris comes on the scene. I do look forward to this. The way I look at it is this; a woman who was being abused found the courage to leave. Her soon to be ex couldn’t handle it and killed her. It’s a classic case of domestic violence.
Karma got him in the end. I will always be on the side of someone who is or was abused. Nicole was a victim from being to end.
I was in a Greek restaurant with my mother when they stopped the music and played the verdict over their speakers.
I note the body language of the couples. David and wife still together and intimate. John and wife, look at the distance between their intimate bits. Not a strong marriage anymore, is my guess. Selma has the rare talent of being gorgeous or plain. Don’t know how she does it; she’s like a chameleon. She looks so tiny here, though not unhealthy, like AJolie strikes me. Mr. Vance looks good, last time I saw him he died (on The Closer!). Schwimmer still looks like Ross. Cuba needs to do up another couple of buttons on his shirt. Yup, I’m cranky this morning!
Omg I LOVE the Closer!
Re: John and Kelly – I just finished reading “Going Clear”, the expose on Scientology, and their marriage has been a sham from day one. Scientology leaders have done everything they can to keep Travolta’s homosexuality a closely guarded secret, including marrying him off to Kelly when it was about to be revealed. He and Kelly are wonderful friends and both are dedicated Scientologists – plus they have the bond of children – but they have about as much chemistry as a couple of cold potatoes.
I don’t think John and Kelly’s intimate bits were ever pointed toward each other.
Nope…turkey baster pregnancies.
For some reason I thought David Schwimmer’s wife was a lot younger than him, but in these pics they look closer in age. I can’t tell if that’s because she aged or he didn’t.
She does resemble Kris jenner but can she get down the over the top hysterical, manic woman she is. It’s also annoying how lovingly she remembers Robert when she divorced him when she had his little kids at the time and soon after remarried. Selective memory. That murder did change history with its 24/7 coverage of everyone connected. It created the Nancy Graces’ of the world. I’ll probably watch out of curiosity, but hate giving Simpson any more attention than he already got or the Kardashians for that matter. RIP Ron and Nicole.
Kris is apparently super excited about this mini series because she also spent a bunch of time with Selma Blair. No shock there, because this is a legit production the Kardashian/Jenner’s normally wouldn’t be able to get within 3 blocks of.
I cannot get Cuba as the title character. O.J. was still, at trial time, a very handsome man. Cuba has only the arrogance O.J. did, but none of the charisma or very good looks.
I want to watch the series, but I almost dread it at the same time. I was in my 20s when it happened and I remember vividly watching on T.V. live as O.J. was on the run in his white Bronco and crying for his mother, saying he was sorry. I fear this movie will play neutral on his guilt or innocence. I want it to be true to the actual events because every thing that man said and did those first hours screamed guilty. If they downplay those things, it will appear a mystery and frankly, there was no mystery – just a whole lot of money, high profile attorneys, and most important – manipulation in jury selection. I want the series to honestly depict the events as they unfolded for us who saw it all, but I suspect the goal might be to leave the audience with a cliff-hanger.
People say Karma got him in the end, but I don’t feel it did. He is not in prison for killing Nicole and Ron Goldman (people forget about that poor guy). He is in prison merely for trying to steal back sports memorabilia he auctioned off. Sure, he’s in prison, but if it’s not for the crimes against Nicole and Ron, there is no justice there. There was some justice in his being found guilty at the civil trial and maybe that gave a modicum of closure and justice to the Browns and Goldmans, but he should be in prison for life w/out parole for committing two murders as well as armed robbery re the sports memorabilia.
I saw something brief about his kids not too long ago. They believe he is innocent. Kids are going to love their parents no matter what sometimes, but I think they would question his innocence more if he had been found guilty. They might prefer to be blind and believe in his innocence regardless of the verdict, but we’ll never know now.
I was about 13/14 when OJ was found not guilty, and I’m actually a lot more interested as an adult because I missed a lot of details about the trial, and what an epic mess it really was. I’m especially interested in seeing Paulson’s scenes as Marcia Clark, because it’s amazing to think about what she was up against with Simpson’s team of ridiculously high-priced lawyers.
It’s strange to think about how Nicole and Ron never really got justice for their deaths. The legal system completely failed them, and everyone involved (even those who were supposedly Nicole’s “best friends”) all seemed completely blinded by the spotlight that shone on them.
Her/Their friends turning a blind eye – I know. Barbara WaWa has that new show and one of the first episodes was the OJ Trial. She had Kato Kailen on and he says now that he knows OJ was guilty – things he did right after the murder, things he said. NOW you say he’s guilty?! That enraged me. I guess he didn’t want to upset his squatting situation at the time.
Not to mention their entire cadre of LA party friends who love to trot out the name Nicole Brown Simpson.
I’m impressed, for the most part everyone looks nice. No major fails here (besides Travolta’s wiglet, but that’s to be expected).
Off to write some Sarah Paulson/Courtney B Vance fan fiction. They are both really working for me here. Definitely watching the series as well.
I often wonder if Robert Kardashian Sr was still around whether his children would have grown to adulthood differently, ie more balanced, less narcissism. I think most fathers (OK not Mylie’s dad) wouldn’t want their daughters to turn out as famewhores.
The Kardashian girls were already out in the LA scene by the time Robert passed away (I think Khloe not so much because she was younger) but I think the biggest difference is that it’s extremely likely that Kim wouldn’t have “leaked” a sex tape if Robert Sr. was still around. If only just for the fact that he would have blocked it.
Omg the crazy car chase was the weekend of my college graduation! My sibs were glued to the television Ina hotel room, and I was like, “OK everyone! Time for the ceremony!”
