As you know by now, I’m not really a believer in Alicia Vikander. But I was expecting more from her at the Oscars, I really was. She has an exclusive Louis Vuitton contract, which meant she’s been wearing wall-to-wall Louis Vuitton on every major red carpet for a full year. Her relationship with LV has strengthened to the point where they were making customized pieces for her. And Alicia’s Oscar dress was another custom piece. And really? This is what she chose, and Louis Vuitton chose for her? A butter-yellow mullet dress with a bubble hem? While the dress itself might not be THAT controversial as a stand-alone look, I have to think that this sucks as a customized piece for the Oscars. Her styling was also pretty bad – she overtanned and she looked orange, and her hair was the worst! PS… Everyone compared Alicia’s dress to Belle in Beauty & the Beast. I have no comment on that one.
Here’s Alicia’s boyfriend Michael Fassbender. They arrived separately – both Alicia and Michael brought their parents as their dates – but they sat together in the audience. She even kissed him when she won. But she didn’t thank him. People are referring to that as “Alicia forgetting,” but I think she did it on purpose.
And here’s Mindy Kaling in Elizabeth Kennedy. I liked this on the E! Red Carpet show, I thought it was a great silhouette for her and very flattering. It doesn’t photograph all that well though. Still, she looks nice. I like the drama in the back.

That color works wonderfully with her skin. I like the whole look. She is really pretty.
I thought that too, that the colour really does suit her. I think I’m actually a little bit in love with this dress… I understand the criticism, but it’s different and I find it interesting which makes it beautiful to me. I think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever seen her in because I usually don’t like her dresses at all.
I like Mindy’s dress too, although there were some unflattering shots on the Daily Mail’s website (because of course they used the unflattering ones…!) where it looks a bit too tight and uncomfortable. But she looks like she loves it and that all that matters 🙂
I love the dress too, the color is springlike and flatters her complexion, I Iike that she is petite on top and the tight bodice flatters that, and the shape of the skirt is original. The only thing I like less is the half up, half down hair, a small ‘ballet chignon’ is almost always better with a big dress like that is my opinion.
I’m also a supporter of this dress. As you said, the color is springlike, and yellow is a happy color, making it fresh and pretty. It’s not a gown that would work on everyone, but the dress works well on Alicia specifically, it highlights how delicate and coquettish she is. I loved how the skirt swished around her ankles, and she wore the dress very playfully which added to its easy charm.
I also agree about the hair – the half ballet chignon. I think her hair looks lovely and youthfully carefree. She’s young and she looks young and happy.
@ Thinker It’s nice that you agree about the dress.
And just to clarify about the chignon: a perfect chignon to me should not be too tight, but elegantly ‘undone’. Angelina had the best chignon of all time at the 2012 Golden Globes, if anyone remembers 🙂 ( she wore a satin white and red Versace gown).
Alicia’s dress was my favorite of the night!! Georgeous.
I agree, it’s a lovely dress and especially great on her! When can you go full princess except when nominated for (and winning) your first Oscar, eh?
I don’t have a problem with her going full princess – Lupita and Gwyneth did that and it worked great for them. The thing is this particular dress just looks really cheap. And that buttery shade of yellow doesn’t look good against her skin. She’s got a lovely natural tan, she could try more bright colors.
I like the color on her too I just hate the hemline. I also dislike the styling from the makeup to the hair
Yes. I liked it until I saw the bottom. Bubble dress?? Just no. And the hair is just too undone.
Everyone seems to hate the hem but it gives the dress those exaggerated….shapes…what is that called? The billows of fabric across the front of the skirt. It wouldn’t have them otherwise. I actually think this would probably be a totally forgettable dress without the bubble hem. Then again, I also loved Naomi Watts’ dress and a lot of people didn’t (I love her style).
Mindy’s is too tight, don’t know how someone didn’t see fit to alter the waistline digging into her and looking so uncomfortable.
I like the color, too, but the dress itself just seems cheap to me. I wasn’t too impressed with her look.
I agree. I understand the criticism, but the color worked for her and it stood out in a good way. I also thought she didn’t thank Fassbender on purpose as he seemed to be doing more to help Kate Winslet than Alicia.
I adore this whole look, especially on her. She’s one of my favourites right now.
I wish I could have seen this on TV, but I banished cable last year!
I totally agree. I really love the dress and I think she looks lovely. Love the color with her skin tone.
She looked so fresh and pretty. My fave of the night.
Agree IMO the dress looked great on her and matched her lovely skin to perfection. The bubble at the bottom wouldn’t work for most young starlets who are too busy showing how sexy and “age appropriate” they look for their next 40-year-old male love interest. But Alicia embrasses her youth, she is whimsical and fresh looking with an inner glow that makes the dress perfection on her.
Also the roomy skirt makes a date completely unnecessary. LOL. Just like Lupita’s Cinderella voluminous blue skirt two years ago. Being compared to Disney’s Belle IMO is always a compliment (an intelligent woman in a beautiful yellow dress).
P.S. That’s the youngest I’ve ever seen Fassy look. His skin and hair look awesome. Even his hairline doesn’t look receding (hair plugs?). Suit is also on point.
I totally agree. I don’t like the bubble bottom, but I can’t take my eyes off of her skin. Just stunning.
I love the dress.
I loved the dress and especially the color. The only thing I may have changed is the earrings. Otherwise, she looked lovely. And I really liked her speech – she thanked everyone she wanted too without being overly sentimental. Glad she left out Fassbender too.
I think it was probably wise to leave (my beloved) Fassy out of her speech, just in case they don’t last in the long term.
I love this look. I have a girl crush on her.
I think she looked lovely. The colour worked really well on her skin tone. As for her half up/half down hair style that is the new coming trend in hair and I think it looked pretty with her dress. (I much preferred AV’s Oscar look to Brie’s who I felt looked very underwhelming which was a shame for her).
I think it looks fresh and beautiful. I don’t understand the criticism.
Yes, I thought she looked so pretty in that dress, and how refreshing it is to see a naturally petite-busted actress who hasn’t resorted to implants. I’m so sick of implants!
I agree. I think she looks wonderful and the dress is actually quite pretty to me.
Sometimes I love when my internet is a bit slow, because I feel like its being presented that way just so I can have a running dialogue instead of instant reactions.
“Okay, her hair is a bit messy but she is young and it could work…..Okay, okay… well haven’t seen anyone else in yellow so good for her… no granny panties in sight so far…. The rhinestone details could go very wrong….. Hmmm, but yeah with the color it may actually work….. Alright so far so good, not astounding but………… shit its a bubble hem. No, hell no.”
I think it is wise not to thank your boyfriend in your Oscar acceptance speech. It’s not like they are long term partners that have contributed to each other’s careers in any significant way. For better or worse your Oscar speech becomes part of history – you want to be pretty solid and have an assumed history/future with those you thank (see: Julia Roberts’ barely thanking Benjamin Bratt – when we later found out they were broken up at the time). As for Alicia’s look: it is horrible, from her post-gym workout hair to her sloppy ended duvet-dress. Fail, fail, fail.
“I think it is wise not to thank your boyfriend in your Oscar acceptance speech.”
i agree. then, let’s say they break up, and she’s got this memory of winning an oscar and thanking the boyfriend she dated for a bit and now despises. i think thanking a partner should be left for long term partners or spouses.
I agree. I’m not much of a fan of either of them, but I can easily understand why you wouldn’t make a point of thanking a boyfriend/girlfriend in an acceptance speech. They’ve only been together about a year, and given the usual life-span for Hollywood relationships, they may well not be together this time next year. So why have the memory of such a great moment potentially clouded by reminders of a relationship that went sour?
ell- I agree, definitely a wise move.
Totally agree- ESPECIALLY because around Oscar time every year, websites love to round up all of the examples of “The Oscar Curse” and point out all of the couples that were together when one won an Oscar and then broke up. They would be bringing up her thanking Fassbender for many, many years.
Right. No need to thank her arranged hook-up-to-help-her-win-an-Oscar date. He did his part and now she can toss him aside. I foresee a Bradley Cooperlike upgrade in the works!
BTW. I think she looks radiant and the dress color is gorgeous on her. There. Now she can go away.

Bitter much
Oh please this is ridiculous like Fassbender could help her, he can barely help himself. This is so sexist assumes that a woman with more than five movies and critical acclaim can’t win an award by herself with her work.
Michael “couldn’t open Oscar Bait Steve Jobs to any box office and doesn’t campaign for Oscars” Fassbender was going to help her win?? Yeah no…try harder.
Look if it’s any conciliation to you, like most Hollywood couples they won’t last. However given that they can barely help their own careers (she has ZERO box office clout too) I’d say they’re as genuine as two actors can be.
Wow @Anon. Actually you sound bitter. Everyone has staged relationships in Hollywood to further their careers. Men and women alike. This was a joke based in truth. What a stupid, pointless overreaction to absolutely nothing.
-TheRealPinky
I don’t like them as a couple, but I’m baffled at the ”PR relationship” accusations. Firstly, Fassbender simply isn’t that famous. One of the reasons given for the failure of ‘Steve Jobs’ was the fact that he isn’t a big enough star to carry a film. Your average Joe or Jane probably hasn’t got a clue who either of them is, but with all the hype around Alicia over the past year, culminating in her Oscar win, she is now probably better known than him.
Secondly, for a ”PR couple” they’re remarkably low key. Almost never posing together or talking about the other. Not even any faux ‘candid’ snaps of them as a couple. Although I’m not a fan, I do think they are the real deal.
“Arranged hook-up to help her win”. You obviously didn’t see The Danish Girl. Alicia’s acting was incredible! She doesn’t need Fassbender.
Nope- I don’t really get the hype about the girl (she’s a good actress, but she’s no Cate Blanchett), but Fassbender hasn’t done anything for her career. He gave her a boost on the internet, but in terms of movie executives, the general movie-going public, and the old fogies voting for the Oscars: none of them know who Fassbender is or care that she’s dating him. Remember, the Sony leak exposed that Scott Rudin and several others were dead set against Fassbender for “Jobs” because he couldn’t get an audience the way Christian Bale or Leo DiCaprio could (or what they banked Oscar Isaac could, since they were desperate to get him in two of their big projects).
Despite this win, she still has a ways to go at breaking through- she, like Fassbender, is internet famous. The “Bourne” film will probably be her big test to find an audience.
I must say the Danish girl was a huge disappointment to me. Apart from that she comes off as a stiff, cold, soulless someone at least to me. Sorry!
Her mum’s dress looked so much better than this yellow mess. She has not found her style yet, no matter it is her hair or this orange tan, and this LV contract doesn’t help her either.
I wonder what kind of projects will await her.
I find her to be the most boring, one note actress ever (besides Kristen Stewart). I get lambasted every time I say this, though. Ex Machina was made for her.
I found her performance in The Danish Girl mediocre as well–Eddie is who stole the show in that movie. The only movie I saw her in where I was a touch impressed was The Royal Affair—but she cried a lot in that as well. This has nothing to do with who she is dating either, she just doesn’t blow me away as an actress.
Me too! I can’t connect at all with her acting, she just leaves me really cold. She’s lovely to look at and technically proficient, but there’s no charisma or spark or life to her…for me.
+1
Belle wore it better.
She also had better hair and makeup😉. Not sure if LV cannot make a decent dress or won’t, for her. It is terrible and that hair? I know some people here like her and keep saying she is pretty but I just can’t see it, and her fashion choices do nothing to convince me otherwise.
She is pretty & has beautiful skin but the whole thing (makeup, hair, dress) didn’t help at all. Her hair to me was the worst offense, that’s something you do with your hair when you don’t want to do anything with it. The dress was awful too, sure the color looks nice on her but you have a contract with LV wear something better. Last she’s never been to much into makeup she usually wears minimal on red carpets so I wasn’t surprised on that one.
Ay Ay girl. Its great that she won. I love her specially since she said a year ago she wants to be in the Oscars and not only did she win but her film Ex Machina also won against crazy odds ( VFX)
I thought Micheal Fassbender was truly worthy of the Oscar but i doubt he cares. Hopefully he is happy for her.
I was happy she won, too! The dress is nice – suits her skin tone.
Looking at that dress I felt I should have had scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Where is Alicia Vikander’s other leg??
Also, she looks very pretty and can wear the dreaded yellow, but the hem of that dress looks like a duvet cover when it comes out of the washing machine and has filled up with socks.
lol, it really does.
You nailed it
ha ha ha I was thinking improperly opened parachute, but your description is way better!
I hate when that happens!
Hilarious!
(Or when you take said cover from the dryer and the damn socks are still wet!)
i love alicia, but i have to agree that the dresses LV makes for her are shockingly bad. and i love LV, for some reasons what they put on the runway for the season is far prettier than what they make for alicia. i loathe this dress, especially the colour.
She is so pretzy, but she looks like she cleaned her house and than wrapped herself in a sparkly yellow duvet. Awful.
Mindy also looks awful. I hate the drama in the back.
I can see what Alicia was going for with this look but….. no! Also, what was a cloying look to start with wasn’t helped by her twirling and hair flicking.
And am I the only one who thinks Fassbender has lost the hot?
Yeah, I don’t really get why people find it charming that she looks and acts like a 13 year old girl.
Exactly. I can’t stand her and find her very phoney and annoying. Fassbender not only lost the hotness but he looks ill on the photos from the Vanity Fair party (he went with his sister, didn’t appear with Alicia on the VF carpet and hid away from photographers inside, chatting up his sis when Alicia happily posed with her Oscar). They’re extremely odd as a couple.
This is interesting about the sister and whatnot. There will be two theories—he wanted her to enjoy her moment or he was jealous. Maybe there will be a third, he could care less being around her.
Yeah, I said before that I think their behaviour is a bit odd. I respect them for not selling their relationship, but this thing of almost trying to pretend they’re not together is strange. I mean, outside of blogs like this, who really cares if two otherwise unattached, moderately famous actors are dating or not?
That said, I don’t think this is a PR relationship and I do think they’re well matched. Both are highly ambitious, single-minded actors at a high point in their careers. And she’s much younger, which he seems to want. My suspicion is that they could take or leave one another, and probably will do the latter fairly soon. For both of them, romance is very much of secondary importance next to their careers. And that’s fine.
Long time lurker, first time poster here.
Mindy looks great here – really elegant.
Shame about Alicia…I’ve liked some of the stuff she’s worn this season, but this one?
She looks like she fell into a big bowl of custard.
Boofy custard. Oh dear.
Ha ha!!!! Great post! “A big bowl of custard” with sparkly bits in it… I HATE this dress. Yellow is always difficult, in my opinion, and every single thing about this dress is wrong. She seems to have very little sense of what works on her, what her own unique “style” is…. the dress wears her.
My mood is improved by that first pic of Fassy. Thaaaaaanks!
HaHaHa! I can totally see it… Thanks for my Monday morning laugh and welcome Sophy.
I absolutely loathe this look. She could have done so much better!!!
Mindy looked great!
Bubble hem was my favorite part of the dress, it made it light and interesting. Otherwise not bad but not really good either.
The dress was beautiful and it suited her like a glove. I’m not so sure about the material. I guess she wanted to go for a “princess look”. Anyway, Alicia looked amazing last night and good for her for getting her Oscar! My first choice was Kate Winslet but she’s pretty talented.
#kaisersomean! You make me laugh about Alicia, Kaiser. She activates your mean gene, doesn’t she? It’s like me on a LEGS thread! Or perhaps not because she seems to activate many people’s mean genes. I don’t get it myself. I think she is truly beautiful. And I love any woman who so clearly believes in her own agency.
I don’t understand fashion at all but a yellow maxi puff ball dress? That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever heard of! In the unlikely event I am ever asked to walk a red carpet, I want to do it in a yellow maxi puff ball dress.
oops, duplicate
So agree with this: “And I love any woman who so clearly believes in her own agency.”
I like the dress and think she looks so fresh and pretty. It’s a nice change from the usual plunging slit-to-here numbers that are all over the red carpet.
I don’t really have a reason not to be a believer so, despite of not loving the gown either, I’m happy for her. She sounded happy and graceful.
The dress looks terrible in photos but I thought it was lovely when she went up on the oscar stage. Movement seemed to make all the difference.
Alicia dressed so much better at the other award shows. She is a really pretty girl but the color and style of that dress is pretty awful that flouncy bubble hem just. NO.
I love the color on her but have to agree that this is not Oscar worthy: the dress and her styling, especially for an Oscar winner. And the top makes her look flat chested.
With The house of LV at her fingertips, I too think she could have done better.
I really don’t like Alicia, she comes off as so arrogant to me, but for once I think the dress she chose is beautiful (which probably means I have really poor taste since I seem to be the only who thinks so…) The color would have looked much better on her if she’d skipped the tanning and gone with a more natural, slightly paler skin color. Also agree that her styling for the event was awful, especially the boring, sloppy-looking hair.
I tend to agree. She isn’t doing it for me, but she is very slowly starting to grow on me. I think she can put on a good fun! face for the cameras, but in her candids she looks bored and disinterested. Maybe she just has a serious resting bitch face.
About Mindy, I tweeted Kaiser about it, I saw a picture of what now I realize was probably the After party and she had her hair loose, and her foundation was off and I don’t think those blonde highlights work for her. And the foundation they put on her chest area heavily contrasts with her arms and to me that wasn’t a great look.
Alicia looks ok, I saw a video of her posing, twirling and having fun on the red carpet, and it made me happy. If she enjoys the dress, feels like a princess and dances around, then that’s what matters.
I think she looks lovely and the dress is in line with her personality.
What the hell happened to Mindy’s lips???
I’m not great with spotting plastic surgeries, fillers, etc but I have spent this entire season of Mindy exclaiming about how strange her face looks. Especially since we’ve been watching some old episodes of the Office. What the heck has she been doing to herself?
I had the same reaction! Also her face was very tight when she was interviewed by Seacrest.
I hated how its bunched up at the bottom, but somehow I didn’t hate it when I saw it in motion on TV. Like I dunno, it seems worse in photos.
I have such different opinions on these dresses this year from CB, particularly this one. I actually skipped watching the carpet this year and just watched the ceremony and these dresses look much different on stage and in motion. When I saw Alicia’s dress when she took her award, I was in love with the dress. I thought she was so pretty and the dress moved so well.
Sassback, I thought so too. The gown was so much prettier in motion. I liked her hair and make up, but I prefer simple myself so. Still have seen her wear so many better, Oscar worthy dresses, that I’m baffled how this was her pick. I like the fact that in all the after party pics Fassbender is standing to the side letting her have her moment. I think their relationship seems more realistic to me because they r not all over each other but by each other’s sides. They have been dating for almost 2 years so to me they act normal for that stage. Personally that’s how mine have been, doesn’t mean u dont still have physical chemistry at home. I guess I see the opposite of most bc I look at like most people I know. She seems independent and he seems to wait for her, stand aside, maybe like that in her?! Shocking I know. They seem to know each other’s families well… That’s intimacy on a non physical level… They both looked great. I was not a fan of Mindy’s dress but thought her Vanity Fair after party dress was great!!!
I thought Alicia’s dress was beautiful and I don’t think she looks overly tanned, her skin always seems to have that tanned complexion. I really liked her look!
I don’t like the bottom. It is so puffy (like a duvet) if it had been flowing but straight down it would have looked much better. Her hair could have been better as well, but her hair and makeup are usually not that great.
I kind of like the boldness of Mindys, but dislike the puffiness of Alicia’s.
How did she look on TV? All I can think of when seeing this puffy dress is it flipping up in her face when she was sitting in the audience. LOL I’ll have to watch it later.
I thought Alicia’s was the prettiest dress of the night, loved the bodice, the color. It seemed very simple at first, but then the hem added the oomph to it.
I totally agree! I really fell in love with her dress when she went on stage and I could see her move in it. It’s a beautiful color, it’s incredibly romantic, it’s youthful and she looked so happy and free in it. I also thought her hair, makeup and jewelry were spot on!!! Actually, this is one of my favorite Oscar looks of all time!
Tragic. Alicia looks like a 12years old in that dress and styling. Really too bad.
I love Mindy Kaling’s dress though!
Vanity Fair, Harpers Bazaar, Vogue and EW all have this dress on the “Best Dressed” list. I don’t get it, I mean the dress is not hideous (nice color) but it’s definitely not a “wow-moment” dress, that duvet mullet…
Guess who has the right connections :). This is also how she got on the cover of Vogue. She could be wrapped in tin foil and they’d put her on a “Best Dressed” list.
I think I would kinda, sorta, perhaps.. like the dress if the hemline looked different. Mullet dresses are awful…and when you make it a duvet (or maybe parachute?) mullet dress, it’s just not good. But the color is nice, makes me think of spring (soo over winter haha).
Vogue has NEVER given a cover to an Oscar-buzzed actress.. Rooney Mara anyone?
Right connections. Of course.
@juls I’m sure billionaire Rooney Mara has the right connections as well. But at least Rooney Mara has the kind of edgy style that fashionistas love, so her cover made sense.
I called Alicia Fancy Butter last night on twitter an I stand by it, not a great dress at all! Meh!
Mindy Kaling makeup people need to start checking her stuff against a flash and outside light, this is secobd time in under a week she gets ashen face in a carpet! And also what is happening to her lips/chin area? (Looked crazier on the pics last week with the red gown)
It looked better in motion, she looked beautiful. When she walked it was so beautiful the way the dress floated. The colour next to her skin was perfect. I’m glad she didn’t mention Michael. Her mom looked elegant and very put together. Normally you see the +1 they look out of place or not comparable to the other celebrities ( because they don’t have stylists or contracts) not the case with her mom.
Good point on the well dressed mom 🙂 According to Wikapedia her mom is a theatre actress. Stage actresses seem to usually show up looking well put together and classy. She must be a great role model for her daughter.
Oh we don’t have the pictures of the dress for the VanityFair Oscars Afterparty
LOVELY! She looked perfect for a younger actress who is picking up a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. I absolutely love both dresses that she wore last night and her speech was so cute.
I loved this dress on her. The color complimented her skin tone so well. And it did look so airy in motion.
I unabashedly love this gown.
I didn’t like the dress nor the styling but was very happy for her win. I wonder how Fassbender feels about his girlfriend getting an Oscar before him since he made such a stink when he was refused a nomination for Shame.
This is a very good point.
I love everything about this dress (color, cut, style) except for all the silvery things all over it.
I personally like the yellow dress, but I also love the snarky comments.
Alicia’s dress is dope. One of the night’s best. It is memorable and fun and perfect for her. I wonder if the bubble hem is going to make a comeback. I wouldn’t be mad.
I feel like a sap, but I loved the fact that she and Michael brought their mothers as dates, but then sat next to each other in the theater.
Mindy is beautiful as usual, but the makeup is a bit off.
His dad was his official date, but he brought his whole family and spent most of the evening sitting next to her mom. It was pretty cute.
+1 It’s not boring and perfect for the occasion. I don’t like the bubble hem but it looked better in motion.
I have seen much more attractive bed spreads.
Verdict: Tragic.
Even more tragic are her butt kissing stans, though. Damn y’all, she’s not perfect. It’s okay to surgically detach your lips from her glutes.
So pathetic to be so bitter about someone you don’t even know.
Gee bc people like her?!
People don’t just “like” her though. They really go overboard and do the very most, gushing while belittling anyone who doesn’t like her.
She won, yay ! She pulled off the dress and it was fun, . She has a great body and lively personality and almost anything good looks on her.
I think Alicia looked fine. That’s a great color on her. Her skin is amazing and honestly she’s always had that skin tone (if anyone was orange it was Leo). As for her acting, while I haven’t seen The Danish Girl, I thought she was brilliant in Ex-Machina and The Royal Affair. Can’t hate in her- she got the Oscar and the Fassdong!
Nah, there’s video of her as a youngster, from TV here (I’m in sweden), and she’s not this shade of bronze. Hell, she wasn’t this bronze two years ago! There’s no shame in her having a look and going for it. But that’s what it is.
Most white Swedes adore sun-tanning. The SPF worship in the USA hasn’t spread over here yet, whereas sun worshipping is the norm. I’m glad I can legitimately excuse my woc backside from all the sun damage, tbh, because they take this suntan stuff really seriously here!
Not a fan of the hemline or the colour but she loves it and wore it well. I’m glad she won if for nothing else than it’ll rub her detractors the wrong way.
The hem ruined it. It looks like a puffy duvet. Without the bad hem, it’s a perfectly serviceable and safe, pretty dress, but definitely nothing special.
And Alicia and Brie Larson had the same bad, Little House on the Prairie hairstyle last night.
Re: Alicia’s dress. I kinda liked it – she suited the colour and style thou i agree it wasn’t Oscar red carpet. She should have wore the BAFTA’s one – i LOVED that dress on her and that overall look/styling was much better than here.
I can see why she gets on everyones b!tch nerve – in photo’s she give off this smug, high school/sorority mean girl vibe (this is my take on it). There is an unmistakable arrogance in her body language and the way she holds herself – while its refreshing to see someone own their ambition and buy in to their hype (and she does), i can see why it grates on many others. She comes across better with in person video interviews etc..
It’s mostly on this site that I found negative comments but I agree she comes across better in video.
@Anon – I’ve noticed the same thing, it’s a bit odd that in most other places people seem to have an overall positive view of her, but not here. I can’t say that I really care all that much about if though, I’ve never seen any of her movies.
@Betti – I didn’t see the whole ” smug, high school/sorority girl” thing before, but now that you mentioned it, and I look at different photos of her, I can see what you mean. 🙂
I also agree with you both that she comes across better in video interviews, than in photos.
A case of resting smug face?
The color looks fantastic on her, but I strongly dislike the bubble hem and the gym hair. I’d expect more especially since she knew she could have won(and did). I find it odd also they both brought their parents, I get her, but him too? Why not go solo and sit next to her?
I had my TV on mute and I just saw her from the side initially. For a split second I thought she was Ariana Grande, and I was like…what the heck is she doing there? It was the hair and the super deep tan. Beautiful woman but definitely not the best we’ve seen her. I really want to like the dress but the bubble/asymmetrical hem kills it for me. However, if it was custom and she gave the final approval to LV….all that matters is that she loved it, I suppose.
My favorite dress of the evening. What amazed me the most is I did not hear her again mentioning Michael. lol ya know, her bf
I know I’m in the minority, but I think Mindy looks awful. I don’t like that train-shawl-thingy that wraps around her arms at all, and she’s been messing with her face, because THOSE ARE NOT HER LIPS.
Alicia looked stunning. I don’t like the bubble hem, but the dress colour is very unique and stood out beautifully. I do wish she’d worn her hair up, though.
Alicia’s dress is lovely. That is the only shade of yellow I like.
Where is her right foot in the first picture? Is she standing on one leg?
I think this Alicia girl is highly ambitious, but am not sure that the win will help her career much. I don’t find her interesting, and I wonder about her range. The dress…the color suits her, and I wouldn’t call it ugly, but it’s somehow a bit too ‘girly’. But she’s very young, ok. Never understood the fascination with Fassbender, acting- or otherwise.
I like the dress but too informal for the Oscar’s in my opinion. Maybe informal is not the right word, but if you cut it off at the knee it looks like a summer dress you would see in anytown USA.
The dress is fabulous! She looks great.
