Eva Mendes, 42, and Ryan Gosling, 35, are expecting their second child

Well surprise surprise. Even though the tabloids would have you believe that Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling’s relationship is in tatters because he’s obviously got eyes for Emma Stone, the truth of the matter seems to be that Ryan and Eva are totally fine. So fine that she’s pregnant again!

Eva Mendes has another bun in the oven! Multiple sources confirm exclusively to Us Weekly that the actress and her longtime boyfriend, Ryan Gosling, are expecting their second child together. According to a source, the mom of daughter Esmeralda, 17 months, was spotted hiding her burgeoning bump during a photo shoot in Los Angeles in February.

In an October 9 interview on the Today Show, Mendes, 41, revealed that she’s taking a break from Hollywood to focus on her family.

“If I’m even like, ‘Oh, what should I wear? Or, should I do this project? All I have to think about is my daughter and her face, and I know the answer immediately,” the Lost River actress said. “She’s my moral compass in a way.”

[From Us Weekly]

People Magazine seems to be confirming the news, and the Daily Mail has the photos of Eva “hiding her bump” here. It’s a lot like the Blake Lively thing earlier this week – Eva just looks knocked up even though we can’t really see a bump. What surprises me more than anything is that Eva is 42 years old… officially, although there’s always been gossip about how she’s shaved a few years off. And she seemingly got knocked up without any fertility treatment drama. Granted, we don’t know for sure, but it seems like she just wanted another baby and she got pregnant pretty quickly. Anyway, congrats to Eva and Ryan!

Exactly what some posters were guessing two days ago because Eva’s been in hiding!

I know right. Celebitches are good! Who’s next? Mila Kunis?

    • Jegede says:

I tried to find that comment but apparently its being deleted. Damn!

      • Jen43 says:

Really? I am going to look to see who guessed it.

ETA. It was deleted. Why would someone do that?

      • Pinky says:

Found it. It was started by Joe-Joe and it’s on the Megan Fox CinemaCon pregnancy post from April 12th!

“You know who else I think is ‘hiding’ a pregnancy? Eva Mendes. No one has seen her for months and months and she did the same thing when she was carrying her little girl. I have absolutely no proof, or course. Only my ‘gossip inkling.’ ”

      • Jen43 says:

        Great job, Pinky. And Joe-Joe.

      • Kitten says:

        YES! I remember that comment.

        Super detectives.

    • tealily says:

Good job! Celebitches on the case!

    • MCraw says:

I love this- quietly shutting down all rumors by just living their life.

Hey Kaiser, there’s lots of women I know who’ve been pregnant by natural means between the 35-45 age range. We just live a society that glorifies really young, sexy mothers. I know the science seems bleak, but it’s kinda normal for a woman over 40 to get pregnant naturally too.

    • Smellsfishi says:

I know this is the point of the conversation but rich people annoy me, how can you wear such ugly clothes but be able to afford the best. Like seriously if your going to have the good life, take full advantage of it.

      • Erica says:

I totally agree! A woman I knew had craaaazy amounts of money and she dressed so badly. I would always think what a shame, what a waste whenever I saw her clothes. Money can’t buy taste though

      • Alix says:

That really is an ugly sweater!

  2. Locke Lamora says:

I hope they name their kid Marisol. Or Jose Armando. To keep up with the telenovela theme.

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

HAHAHAAHAHHAHA yes please! Armando Alejandro Gosling de Mendes

      • Paula says:

LOL I laughed really hard here. I vote for Maria Mercedes or Miguel Augusto

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

Maria Mercedes was everything to me! Soraya Montenegro Gosling Mendes could work too.

      • QQ says:

        OMFG I FOUND MY TRIBE!!!!

SORAYA MONTENEGRO FAN FOR LIFE!!! Frankly Itati should never ever not play an overacting villainess

and for the tut-ttuers down below I AM a Born and raised Venezuelan, daughter of Dominicans, avid Telenovela watcher, I got the joke and as the sister of someone named after a novela and a complicatedly named black Latina i also found this hilarious!!! we are in fact talking about the possibly best things in the genre and facilitating Eva’s job

      • Locke Lamora says:

Soraya Montenegro! The scene in which she slaps 20 people is one of the most amazing in the history of television.

      • QQ says:

Not quite that common Locke, but VERY much the type used in Novelas for the rich people LOL

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

@QQ @LockeLamora Maldita Lisiadaaaaa! Is it wrong to want to name my kid after one of the best telenovela villains? Because I will. I’ve been rewatching telenovelas on Netflix. I also wanted to Adela Noriega in Amor Real mostly because of Fernando Colunga & that sexiness he oozes when he speaks/walks/breathes.

I’m just going to leave this here to brighten up everyone’s day:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTTFhwqx42Y

      • mia girl says:

You know who else I loved as a villain, Zully Montero.

What about Gaviota as a name? (Please tell me someone else loved that novela).

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

@Mia girl I thought it was awful but still watched because we’ll all talk about it. Also I can’t with Angelica Rivera but that’s politics related not telenovela.

You know who else, my home girl Catalina Creel. I wanted her name, I wanted her eye patch, her hair, & how she shut down everyone. She was the ultimate villain!

      • Locke Lamora says:

Gaviota who was illiterate and worked on an agava field but then became the CEO of the tequila company in like episode four? That Gaviota? And Rodrigo who once cried under a table.

From the newer ones the one about Marichuy was hilarious ( I don’t remeber the title, something with Angel). She once delivered a baby without removing the pregnant lady’s pants.

And then there are the Telemundo ones which incorporate sci-fi elements ( El Rostro del Analia, did anyone watch that?)

      • mia girl says:

@Lizzy – I was actually referring to Gaviota in Café con Aroma de Mujer! Her character’s name was Teresa I think but they called her Gaviota. That was the theme song…
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfme7EtKGnQ

I’m with you, I can’t stand Angelica Rivera as an actress or that stupid novela.

@Locke – No this Gaviota became the head of a multinational coffee company! Sebastián Vallejo Cortez (Guy Ecker) was her “galan”

      • Saks says:

If its a boy the can name him Fernando, so they can nickname him “nandito” 😂 I remember my abuelita used to watch all those novelas Las María, La Usurpadora, Amor Real, Esmeralda,…

@Lizzie Maguire, Soraya has other amazingly hilarious moments like “¡demuéstrame tu poder satánico! (show me your satanic power)”. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0oSvRh6ArWo

      • Locke Lamora says:

I just googled Angelica Rivera and she’s the Gaviota I’m talking about. Destilando Amor was the name of the show.
Most old ladies here watched telenovelas. There’s a telenovela every day at 12.30 on our national TV channel and they’ve been going since the 80s. I used to watch them with my grandma. My grandma’s friend once payed a Mass for Esmeralda to see again.

Brazilian ones, like Terra Nostra, were also really popular.

      • Cee says:

OMG Soraya Montenegro was everything, That scene where she slaps everyone while she screams and fake cries will forever be in my heart.

Just the other day at work we looked up her scenes in YT and they’re still golden. I always feel bad when I laught at her handicap insults, though.

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

@mia girl She was the original one! Love me some Guy Ecker goddamn that’s a handsome man. I know there was Paloma aka Silvia Navarro that one was Cuando seas mia wayy better than the Gaviota played by Angelica Rivera.

@Saks Hahaha Soraya slapping people is my favorite! Also I got mad at my mom once for planning a vacation during the time Amor Real was on. There was no way I could keep up with it. I needed to know what was going to happen to poor Matilde.

      • QQ says:

FAM!!! ya’ll brought up Maldita Lisiada!!! I’m in tears i’m typing through tears

      • Saks says:

Lizzie McGuire, Amor Real was awesome! And fun fact about that telenovela, it actually had a huge historical research for it. I’m a historian and in one of my Art History classes we learned that a lot of takes of this novela were inspired or emulate paintings by famous XIX century artists like Santiago Rebull, Felix and José María Velasco. Some of the dresses were directly copied from the collection at Castillo de Chapultepec. Also Mauricio Islas character “Adolfo” is inspired in Miguel Miramón (a conservative general and ex-president).

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

@QQ Gurl of course be brought up Maldita Lisiada https://media.giphy.com/media/d2Z2C4QsNGelo8JG/giphy.gif

@QQ @mia girl @Saks so I didn’t know that Kim K & Kim 2.0 stole their look from Soraya. She did the blonde wig first! Give her credit you evil Kardashians!
        http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view3/4247698/soraya-montenegro-o.gif

@Saks I’m upset that they discarded all that in the remake. It took away what made the whole telenovela, well that & there was no Fernando Colunga & Adela Noriega.

      • Cee says:

@QQ – “te mataréeeee, maldita lisiada!!!” FOREVER!

        Please don’t flag me, LOL.

      • QQ says:

This thread is the best decision I’ve made this week

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

I’m also going to leave this here for the pure enjoyment that scene gives my heart, take that Michael Bay.

LOL! How did I never watched that?! If she lost her memory after that, then it’s a total classic lol. Watch this one, I love Marimar punching the lady towards the end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lilsan1g9so

Lizzie, was there a remake of Amor Real?! Thank God I never knew about it, I can imagine what a piece of garbage that was.

      • mia girl says:

        OMG Thalia’s helium voice!

        OK, another hysterical scene

      • Miss M says:

@lizzie: thank you! I definitely had no intention to offend anyone. I am Brazilian and I love the telenovelas (the maria trilogy and la usurpadora too!). My real last name is ridiculously long and it comes from a Portuguese+Spanish heritage.
@QQ: I can’t believe you remembered Soraya Montenegro! She was a great villain!

      • Liberty says:

hahhah Lizzie! That scene is fabulous! Telenovelas are my guilty pleasure too! Bliss!!

      • Saks says:

Mia girl, I’m so glad I returned to the post, can’t stop laughing with your video! 😂 That fight is on another level, they went full UFC meets Mortal Kombat!
Ok, I leave with this one, vintage-Mexican-horror-telenovela scene, it doesn’t make any sense at all, and it is hilarious… https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K_aebBQAqSM
        Have a nice weekend!

    • Miss M says:

Maria la del barrio or Luis Fernando

    • TyrantDestroyed says:

If it’s a boy I vote for naming him Andrés Maximiliano 😃

    • BangersandMash says:

      I don’t understand the conversation/joke…

    • TheOtherMaria says:

Amada is a lovely name and their daughter’s first name was based off a character from one of their favorite novels (I think).

You know what’s not lovely? Making a joke (even if it’s meant to be harmless) out of Latino names 😒

But you know, so long as y’all think it’s funny, please continue.

      • Locke Lamora says:

Esmeralda and Marisol are the names of the most famous telenovelas that were ever aired in my country. So famous that the names are pretty much synonymous with the characters ( even more famous than The Hunchback of Notre Dame) .
I didn’t mean to make fun of Latino names, I really apologise if I did. It’s like if they named their kid Jerry and you said the other one should be Tom.

      • Jegede says:

        @TheOtherMaria

        Le Sigh.
I do think this conversation was meant in tongue-in-cheek humour on a gossip board, and not malice.

      • OriginallyBlue says:

      • TheOtherMaria says:

It’s all good Locke, I don’t doubt those particular names are synonymous with telenovela characters, that being said, Maria de la barrio is not 😒 (I realize it wasn’t you who typed that ).

To whomever le sighed me and mentioned it was all tongue in cheek, that may very well be true, however when you have to deal with people laughing at your name your entire life…. There’s nothing cheeky at all about it.

        Have a lovely morning.

      • Locke Lamora says:

I really am sorry, it didn’t even occur to me that it could be taken that way. I’m an idiot.

Maria la del barrio is a telenovela character, she was played by Thalia, but I see how that could have been offensive.

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

Most of those names come from the most successful & known telenovelas so it was not meant to offend anyone. Esmeralda broke records back in the day, to me the name relates to the telenovela not to hunchback of Notre Dame. No way was Locke Lamora or myself or anyone else who commented trying to offend anyone. Sorry that it was taken that way but I don’t think we meant any harm.

      • Santia says:

Why do people find ways to be offended about everything?? I remember Maria la del Barrio very well. My mother loved that novela. They are character names, not names of real people (if someone said “Maria Conchita Alonzo” as a punch line, then feel free to be offended).

      • minime says:

        @TheOtherMaria

You’re right and thank you for saying it…it’s not tongue-in-cheek humour and it’s not even funny after the 2nd comment. We get it, Esmeralda was the name of a very famous novela…additionally those names you are joyfully throwing around are common Hispanic names…if you still can’t see the bigotry of the comments there’s no much left to be said. She’s Hispanic and gave a Hispanic name to her child! Yey, let’s pile on that.

(I understand that for a lot of people it isn’t badly intended but I think that a bit more “countenance” when writing this online would be nice towards Hispanic people)

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

@Santia people are also commenting about Blake Lively’s pregnancy & the name of the kid, no one is getting offended by that one. My great-grandma had 5 names & we ask her if she was a telenovela star. I didn’t see it in a way it would offend anyone, I always wanted a telenovela name because I was the only Mexican kid who had a foreign name. Yes, anything that Adela Noriega, Thalia or Victoria Ruffo were on I wanted to be.

      • Santia says:

@Lizzie – Yes. People are on the Blake Lively thread saying they should name their son Emily. I hate that everyone is so hyper-sensitive these days (this coming from someone with a loooonnng very Latin name).

      • mia girl says:

I’m Latina and did not think these comments were offensive. I found it to be tongue in cheek comments among fellow Latinas. Or as others have suggested, similar to the name comments on Livley’s post.

Totally got the telenovela references including Maria la del Barrio title (which was one of the most popular novelas on Univision like 10 years ago). I was actually going to add Marimar to the list of possible names before I read the comments about others being offended. I don’t think anyone meant to do that.

      • Miss M says:

@theothermaria: in no way i was trying to be disrespectful to you or anyone named Maria. Maria la del barrio is one of fAvorite telenovelas and it was very popular in my country. Someone else mentioned Maria Mercedes, which is the title of another famous telenovela and the main character was also played by Thalia. Again, I didn’t mean to be disrespectful to anyone. I am sorry!

      • Locke Lamora says:

@Lizzie Mcguire, don’t forget Gabriela Španić, she was the biggest telenovela star for awhile, during the La Usurpadora and Por Tu Amor days.
And when it comes to men, no one ever came close to Fernando Colunga.

      • Paula says:

@TheOtherMaria I’m sorry to hear you had your name mocked :/ As it has been said before I meant no harm and I apologise if I have offended you.

I’m Brazilian and hispanic names are really common here, so when we joke about telenovelas we don’t mean to be stereotypical or pejorative, we just find it funny the way the names are paired together. I think it’s probably the same as an American making fun of North West.

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

@Locke Lamora you’re so right! I can’t believe I forgot about her! I made my mom cut my hair short just like she had it on La Usurpadora. I also wanted an evil rich twin with a hot husband hahaha I’m going to have the main theme song stuck in my head now.

@Miss M I don’t think or feel like you did in any way. It was the perfect Maria trifecta, Maria Mercedes, Maria la del Barrio & Marimar. Everyone wanted to be Thalia, were obsessed with her & her songs. For anyone who’s interested on watching Maria la del Barrio is on Netflix. Unfortunately they don’t have the other two.

      • Saks says:

As a Mexican I personally don’t find these comments offensive at all. I mean, we are the firsts ones to make fun of novelas, their ridiculous plots and over the top names.

On the contrary, I find quite amusing that Mexican (or Latin in general) telenovelas are watch around the world. 🙂

      • Cee says:

I’m latin and don’t find it offensive. In fact, when my friends and I are being dramatic and over the top, we address each other with fake telenovela names. We add Maria/José Antonio to our actual name and add ridiculous suffixes to it.

Thus I become Maria Cee de los Valles Nevados or Maria X de los Manantiales, or José Antonio de los Valles Patagónicos., etc.

Telenovelas have created a ridiculous black hole which we cannot escape from.

      • TyrantDestroyed says:

@othermaria We were all referring to very dramatic and over the top name combinations we’ve heard in Telenovelas.
Even in my very Latin home country we role our eyes when somebody gives this kind of dramatic sounding name to a girl/boy which is wrongly associated with wealth and status.
Do not take it personal, I have as well a latin long name and last names.

    • Miss M says:

@lockeremora: how did I forget Rubi?!! If it is a boy: Hector

    • Pitag says:

Hi there, I think you gave us the start of a very funny thread, is a very latin? Mexican thing to use those names (not sure about other countries though). Thank you I got a good laugh, telenovela names are the funniest ever. 🙂

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

      Lol!
Anecdote: my sister’s college boyfriend had a younger sister named Marisol. I always thought that was such a lovely name.

    • Mean Hannah says:

Thanks for my first laugh of the day! I love telenovelas – it’s how I learned my Spanish 🙂

    • darkdove says:

the original Gaviota is from a colombian telenovela Cafe con Aroma de Mujer clearly the superior version i am not Colombian but i do think their Telenovela produccions are far superior than anything Televisa and univision make check out one of their original produccions La Hija sel Mariachi.

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

YES! La hija del Mariachi was so good! My mom was obsessed with it & I didn’t quite get it at first till I sat down to watch it. I’ve never seen original Gaviota from Colombia but I did see Cuando seas mia which was the first remake made on Tv Azteca & that was pretty good. Then Televisa tried to do it & failed awfully which was Destilando Amor with Angelica Rivera & Eduardo something I don’t care. Completely miscast both of them in the roles & really bad actors overall.

      • darkdove says:

yes i saw that one too Silvia Navarro is very good in cuando seas mia I hated the version televisa made Destilando Amor it was an awful piece of crap, Iam against Televisa I think their produccions are murder to Telenovelas and La Hija del Mariachi is one of the best stories from Colombia is so beautiful it does cause obssesion to most of the people who have watch it.

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

Televisa ruins their own telenovelas I was so mad when they remaked Amor Real. I would never forgive them for that. Also mad when they remaked Pasion de Gavilanes with what could possibly be the worst miscasting of all times. I love Adela Noriega but she really seemed miserable being there. La Hija del Mariachi was wondeful such a good cast & the actors were amazing. Then Televisa decided to do it too & put Jorge Salinas as the main guy. Whyy?!

      • darkdove says:

evrything about that remake was awful the leads salinas and dana were miscast

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

That was terrible & I have a soft spot for Dana because I loved her in Pasion de Gavilanes but man was that horrible. I also hate Pablo Montero, that guy can’t act sure he can sing but every telenovela he is in I cringed. I don’t care for Salinas he’s been making really bad telenovelas & so not believable as a romantic lead.

  3. Sam says:

Im not a big fan of magazines looking at pictures and then declaring that a woman is pregnant. For all we know Eva and Blake both had very big lunches…it would be very awkward if that was the case.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

As someone who has been asked if I’m pregnant when I’m not, I agree. It’s very embarrassing.

      • Alix says:

It’s also incredibly rude! “Are you pregnant?” is one of those questions one should never ask unless one is already absolutely certain of the answer.

      • Julie Smith says:

Humorist Dave Barry said you should never ask a woman if she’s pregnant unless the baby is actually emerging from her body. HAHAHAHA!!

    • Bridget says:

In general, I try to steer away from anything that has me staring super closely at photos of a woman’s face or body to do some comparison.

    • Magnoliarose says:

I was 5 months along with my second, and I guess the lady that approached me looked at my daughter and did some wrong math. She tried to sell me some diet products. She even said that she felt she could help me get rid of my stomach. Bad enough, but then said I too had skinny legs but a big stomach but now I’m just skinny all over. I just told her unless you’re a doctor and I go into premature labor, you can’t help me.
She made a very hasty exit. That’s what Miss Assumption deserved. She tried to body shame me and sell me some crap products all at the same time.

  4. Jegede says:

Congratulations to the couple. I say Boy (pdq if I’m wrong)

Oh Canada & the fertile Ryans!! Must be the maple syrup.

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

Do they call each other or what? Because that’s an exceptional timing for both of them. “Hey Ryan you having a baby?” “Yeah Ryan I am, you?” “Yeah Ryan same” “Cool Ryan” “Ok Ryan see you in the hospital in a few months” “Bye Ryan” “Bye Ryan”

  5. Nancy says:

Eva is gorgeous. Happy for her and Ryan. Congrats…

    • Original T.C. says:

      +1000
And her gorgeous hair. Very beautiful woman. Congrats to her and Ryan. The fangirls and conspiracy theorists can have several seats. LOL.

    • sills says:

I think she is one of the prettiest women in Hollywood. There’s something very throwback about her, reminds me of those glamorous old pin-ups… Love her casual style too.

  6. Tiffany27 says:

Congrats!!! To her and Blake and everybody and all the babies!!!

  7. Mimz says:

So cool, someone guessed it yesterday. Happy news, I know I’m one of the few who thinks nobody is being tied down and forced to be with the other in that relationship, so that’s cool.
    Congrats to them!

  8. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Congratulations! If it’s a girl, I wonder if it will come out with a tiny turban on its head?

  9. shannon says:

Both of my grandmothers had children in their forties without “feritility drama.” She gives me serious hair envy, but that’s about it.

    • PinaColada says:

+1 my aunt and grandma had kids in their 40sband they were oops babies. One aunt had all her kids post-46. I don’t think it’s impossible- growing up, it always seemed entirely possible/normal/a nonissue. Then my mom rolled along and had all her kids byb24 lol. My other grandma had my dad mid-30s. WWII really screwed up both sets of grandparents, who got a later start than they probably would have otherwise, with all the country-hopping and forcible relocations. But anyway, Any age of motherhood is the norm in my world.

    • ell says:

tbh, i also know lots of women in my family who had babies in their 40s. maybe the women who have fertility problems at that age would have had difficulties getting pregnant even when they were younger.

    • Audrey says:

I don’t think most people think of fertility drama. When people hear of a woman over 40 being pregnant they just immediately think of the potential medical issues. I like Eva and hope all goes smoothly for her though. She can certainly afford the best medical care and testing

      • CJ says:

Oh and even when fertility treatments are used, they don’t necessarily have to involve “drama”. Some people utilize fertility treatments and don’t shout it from the rooftops.

    • kibbles says:

Always mention this whenever people say that women in their 30s are getting too old to have children. We live in the 21st century with the technology to help women get pregnant more than ever before. Of course, biology will never change and the odds grow higher with age, but it has always been possible for (most) women to get pregnant in their 30s and many even up until their late 40s. I have known women who have gotten pregnant naturally without any fertility assistance from their early 30s to their early 40s. I do not know anyone personally who has been able to get pregnant in their late 40s, but anything is possible before hitting menopause.

  10. Talie says:

She seems to be obsessive about not being photo’d pregnant…but hey, she must be cool with hiding out in her mansion, so good for her. I don’t get the thinking, but I suspect some of it is vanity. I mean, it’s not like they’re Angelina and Brad.

  11. Truthful says:

42 is not that old in term of fertility, a lot of women got pregnant naturally at that age it’s past 44 /45 that it becomes really challenging for most (for most … as some women have still not problem getting pregnant at that age… like my best friend mom who had her brother at 48!!!).

Fertility is very specific and linked to one’s biology ( we are not born with the same amount of eggs, some already struggle early 30s, while other got easily pregnant a decade older), it is very much dependent on your eggs amount and solely yours.

Considering the scale of menopause age goes between mid-40’s to late 50s in the western countries (the most documented ones on this topic) the struggle with fertility will vary on a whole decade from a woman to another one.

ps: man didn’t intend to write so much !! ;D… I guess my dad’s discussion on his work are rubbing on me big time!;D!

    • polonoscopy says:

I was just going to say “getting pregs at 42 – not a huge deal.” My grandmother had my father after 45.

      • Lotta says:

My great grandmother had her last child when she was fifty. When she told her doctor that she was pregnent he laughed at her and said she had hit menopause.

I got naturally pregnent at 41. My easiest pregnancy out of three I had.

    • Nameless says:

Yep. I’m 41 and had my hormones tested, and I’m ovulating like a boss. My friend is the same age and is 6 months pregnant the natural way. (Her mom had her at 39.) My sister did the same at 40. Maybe theres a statistic somewhere, but didn’t occur to me that it’s an issue!

      • Truthful says:

In my country (France) 17% of women have their FIRST child at 40 et up (this statistics only counts for primipare, first pregnancy) so yes I wasn’t aware too that it was an issue.

ps: yaaay for the “ovulating like a boss” you go Nameless!

      • Bridget says:

That’s fantastic that you’re healthy and functioning, but it isn’t that it’s unusual to get pregnant over 40 it’s that it’s more difficult and there are a lot more health concerns involved. There are a lot of factors involved – the regularity of ovulation, the quality of the eggs, and the ability to carry a pregnancy to term. Some women will get pregnant and have no issues, but some will have a really hard time getting pregnant.

And the average maternal age in France is 28. In fact, moms in Britain are the ones that are waiting longer.

      • Truthful says:

        @Bridget:

The average maternal age in France is now 30, 4 (updated infos) …
here’s the french link from the very official national statistics institute

and within the Ile de France area (paris and around) the most populated one (around 15 millions) the average maternal age is 34

        http://www.insee.fr/fr/mobile/etudes/document.asp?reg_id=0&ref_id=T15F035

And within this average 17 % of first time mothers are over 40

here’s an other link from the very same institute (it is a gouvernemental institution)
        http://www.insee.fr/fr/themes/tableau.asp?reg_id=0&ref_id=bilandemo2

      • Bridget says:

My point being, though, that there are a lot of well documented issues with waiting until advanced maternal age to become pregnant. The amount of eggs is just one part of the equation, after all. There will always be anecdotal evidence of women that have zero issues getting pregnant at 42, but realistically it is a HUGE gamble to wait that long and expect to get pregnant (and carry to term – don’t forget that part) with no medical interventions.

      • Truthful says:

@Bridget: I didn’t provide “anecdotal evidence” ,I provided STATISTICS, not on being pregnant but on deliveries (as in “first time mothers”)

Eggs is the BIGGEST part of the equation, in term of fertility they cannot help you if you are at the very end of your stock (meaning their quality is very poor)

“but realistically it is a HUGE gamble to wait that long and expect to get pregnant (and carry to term – don’t forget that part) with no medical interventions.”
… I can provide links and links and links on this one…

But I feel like even if I provide them you would be still really keen on the “but…”

        Yes issues are bigger as you age (not just fertility ) but with proper control it is perfectly well managed;

In fact babies with down syndromes are (in France again) born overwhelmingly to women under 35 , the reason? They are not monitored. The older ones have that kind of monitoring and can chose is they want or not to terminate the pregnancy (and in general they do as abortion is not taboo in France)

Yes there are risks, but there are also well documented STATISTICS that having kids over 40, is far from being a big deal in term of FERTILITY (that was my and your initial point, not issues who are again essentially conditioned by genetics… )

Fertility is mainly induced by genetics: some women in their late 20s will struggle … while some in their 40s won’t! Genetics , the age of menopause in the family and the personal eggs stock determine wether you are located on the fertility scale… age is a factor… but not the sole factor…

But then again I feel like you prefer the “but…”…

ps: checking the birth records from late 19th and beginning of 20th centuries will amaze you regarding the age of the mothers…

  12. Luca76 says:

Good for them, I’m one of the few that likes this pair together.

    • islandwalker says:

I like them together too, specifically because they do guard their privacy. Here’s to a healthy pregnancy!

    • jsilly4e says:

Me too! Quiet, reserved and just living their life as a family while working too. Good for them.

  13. Melissa says:

Can we pause for a moment to appreciate the fact that she’s 42? I had no idea and she sure doesn’t look it.

  14. rosie says:

I know I’m in the minority but I don’t find Ryan good looking at all, I never got the hype. Congratulations to them, they seem a really low key couple.
I don’t know why it was necessary in the headline to mention their ages, was it also mentioned for Blake and Ryan?

  15. Size Does Matter says:

NOT HEARING THIS (fingers in ears, lalalala). And still in denial that first baby exists.

  16. Carol says:

What bump? I’m a blind? I didn’t see a bump in any pics. But if she is knocked up, congrats to the pair. They seem happy together.

  17. paolanqar says:

I really like the fact that Eva is not a famewhore and that she has never exploited Gosling’s fame either.
she has the best bone structure ever.

  18. thaisajs says:

Good for them. She’s 42. No time to waste. I’m sure they’ll have another beautiful baby together. Mazel tov!

  19. Barrett says:

She’s my age… Can be scary for some at this. Prays for healthy baby.

  20. tealily says:

I still love that sweater and want turbans to come back.

  21. kri says:

Well, congratulations. I must say that turban pic never gets old. I wonder if she set it on fire after seeing herself in photos.

  22. Lucy says:

Congrats to them as well! I remember when I used to get Gosling and Reynolds mixed up all the time, even though they clearly look nothing like each other. And once again, I reaffirm my very unpopular love for Gosling!!!

  23. drnotknowitall says:

Wow, she is 42? That is a severely high risk pregnancy. I wish her an easy time of it and an easy delivery.

  24. Saks says:

Congrats to them! I also like what Ryan said about Eva and their family recently, because I really hated how some tabloids treated their relationship as “the evil Latina lady who keeps Ryan away from his true love”

    • Loo says:

I think a lot of people treat Mendes as if she is nothing but a pit stop to Ryan Gosling making the Notebook in real life happen. I also believe there is a bias because she is older than him (by only 7 years!).

  25. Joanie says:

He never looks at her in photos. The body language of these two had always seemed very off to me.

    • Jayna says:

He seems pretty smitten with his partner to me. I thought this was the sweetest comment.

“In regard to his stunning partner, Gosling is more than content with the woman in his life.
“I know that I’m with the person I’m supposed to be with,” he said.

But, what does it take to nab the accomplished actor’s affections? “That she’s Eva Mendes,” Gosling said of the one quality he searches for in a woman. “There’s nothing else I’m looking for.”

      • Mrs. Odie says:

“That she’s Eva Mendes.” I just melted! How unutterably sweet.

By the way, she isn’t lying about her age. I know someone who went to high school with her at Hoover High School in Glendale and she is the same age as Eva.

    • kai says:

I think the fact that they’ve been together for years and are on BAby number two trumps body language in photos.

      • I Choose Me says:

Right? I swear some people prefer to bogart reality over their assumptions and fantasies.

  26. AG-UK says:

Many have babies later these days but you never know if you have problems until you actually try. I had my son at 40/41 unfortunately not the natural way. I was a “mature” mother as they say here. I thought thanks😳

  27. Pmnichols says:

Puke. Can’t stand either one of them. But I do hope the baby is healthy.

    • Dangles says:

I haven’t really followed Eva, but Ryan is one of the most talented, charismatic and stylish guys you’re ever likely to come across. Why don’t you like about him?

      • Pmnichols says:

I’m not sure. He seems moody or bitchy. Maybe I’m wrong, he just never did it for me, and she is dumb as a box of rocks. Lol.

  28. jc126 says:

Good for them! So much for the gossip that she “trapped’ him and he wasn’t into her.

  29. Barbara says:

Has anyone ever seen the child. I say prove there is one…..lol
