While this surprised me, it shouldn’t have. Jennifer Aniston is promoting the Garry Marshall film Mother’s Day, which looks terrible but will be catnip to the so-called Minivan Majority. And Aniston is one of the most popular celebrities with that demographic too, so there you go. That’s how Jennifer Aniston gets named People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman for 2016. This is Aniston’s second time around as Most Beautiful – her first time was in 2004, when she seemingly “had it all.” She was finishing up a decade-long run on Friends, she was married to Brad Pitt and she was about to make a major transition to film. Plus, People Magazine thought she was about to have babies at any moment. And now, a dozen years later, Jennifer is married to Justin Theroux, a man who dumpster-dives for home décor and wears JORTS in Cabo.
You can read Jennifer’s full People Magazine interview here, and you can see People’s full “Most Beautiful” package here. This year’s list includes Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara, Keke Palmer, Selena Gomez, Meagan Good and Carrie Underwood. Some highlights from Aniston’s cover interview:
She was “very flattered” to be chosen: “I thought, ‘Oh my God,’ there was this sort of very excited, teenage-y kind of moment.”
Mindful of diet: “It’s funny, it’s a really quick transition from not a care and now all of a sudden, we’ve got to really be mindful of what we put inside our bodies. And how we sleep and take care of ourselves. You can get away with a lot in your 20s.”
Being told by her agent that she was “too chubby” in her 20s: “I was like, ‘What?!’ But my diet was terrible. Milk shakes and French fries with gravy [laughs]. It was a good thing to start paying attention.”
Being married to Justin Theroux brings her the greatest joy. “He makes me laugh. He’s so interesting and so interested. He’s unbelievably talented in more areas than one and he’s just a good man.”
The importance of contouring: “When I was in my 20s, my face was almost a complete circle. So I really needed contouring. And now I’m slowly chiseling away, wishing I had that round face back.”
She wishes she had tried a pixie cut when she was younger: “If I knew I could instantly push it back. I’m very curious to see what I would look like with really short hair. But I’ll never do it. Never. I’m a long hair girl. It’s like a security blanket.”
So how does Aniston define beauty? “Inner confidence. Peace. Kindness. Honesty. A life well-lived. Taking on challenges and not feeling shame for things that haven’t gone the way you felt they should have. And not feeling like a failure or allowing people to critique your life and make you feel like you’ve failed at something. That’s just toxic noise.”
Sure. It’s fine. I don’t really have a problem with this, especially since it’s not like it came out of nowhere – this is so clearly cross-promotion for her film, and so be it. It is what it is. Incidentally, GossipCop actually swooped in on People Magazine’s exclusive again this year. GossipCop has done that several times over the past five years, and even GossipCop makes this cover sound like it’s just People Magazine doing cross-promotion for Mother’s Day.

No. Just no.
+1
yeah, while I like her just fine, this is not right. I’m with Soprana below…Ruby Rose would have been perfect. she’s one of those people that, every time I see a pic of her, I think “DAMN, that woman is gorgeous.”
Well, someone payed. Lots. Of. Cash.
+1
And can we please stop calling her the “girl” next door? She’s not a girl anymore. If she had kids, she might be the MILF next door, but she is not the girl next door.
She is not a mother, why would she be a MILF?
@Sarah said “if she had kids, she might be a MILF, not that she was a MILF. 🙂
I do believe Sarah edited her comment after I posted mine (which I have no problem with).
At what age is girl no longer acceptable? Ahem, “asking for a friend”.
I call my friends girls, ladies, and gals when I’m being silly.
But, maybe girl is now too dated?
Naya, I edited immediately. Think we just crossed paths. One thing that is funny is I’m seeing this pick just ridiculed all over the internet today.
The He**????!!!!
Attractive? Yes. Beyond that, I can’t proceed.
Agreed. And a lot of money has been spent to to make her look this attractive. If it wasn’t part of her job, I doubt she’d pay such detailed attention to her figure, use botox/peels/creams and makeup artists(!) whenever she knew she was getting her picture taken and dress so well, so often.
“If it wasn’t part of her job, I doubt she’d pay such detailed attention to her figure, use botox/peels/creams and makeup artists(!) whenever she knew she was getting her picture taken and dress so well, so often.”
I think that’s the case with most stars though. They do participate in a highly visual industry so only the ones that give up on Hollywood completely are the ones who can forgo the desire to look more attractive. Even Halley Berry of all people had a nose job (and, yeah, it did make a difference to her looks).
JUDYK – exactly what I was going to say! Beautiful people are stunning no matter where they are or what they are doing. I’m not seeing that at all. People can be very attractive without being handsome/beautiful. She looks clean. She’s in great shape. She does her hair. She’s attractive. But BEAUTIFUL?
This is like the equivalent of kinda gross dudes being porn stars. Something about marketability and relateability? (I know that’s not a word, but I trust you know what I mean)
Yes. Just yes. She is fab.
A LOT of markers must have gotten called in to get her that title.
People magazine is permanently stuck in the late 90s.
And who the heck still buys people magazine….. Celebitchy is my main source!
I don’t like this very much. Of all the new faces out there why do a repeat?? Hasn’t she had this honor before??
Most Beautiful…
LOL! Ahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
*gasps for air*
Ahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
*faints. Cackles while unconscious*
you made me spit my coffee.
Exactly what I thought when I saw it this morning.
Seriously. You gotta be kidding me. Don’t they usually pick somebody relevant?
I’m completely fine with this. It’s all bullsh*t anyway and the first 3 women listed are in their 40s which I think is fantastic!! Not so long ago women couldn’t have a career past 40 in Hollywood, and now they are dominating this Hollywood PR fluff rag. Great!
Fully agree. She is a pretty woman, but certainly not up there as a world contender.
She’s very pretty now with the tons of cosmetic work…but….most beautiful……no. people magazine has lost their validity and my respect. They sold out. Someone bought this cover story and it couldn’t be more obvious.
Who in Hollywood hasn’t had work done. Some good, some really bad. Think the problem is that whomever People magazine would have chosen, people would have been angry with their choice. Do I find her beautiful? No, but I think she is pretty with a great shape, great hair and looks very youthful.
I saw the title of the article and immediately thought “wonder what movie she has coming out”. Ugh. This is so tired.
I’d like to see the list they chose from, seriously? No way.
LOL! There was no list. This is paid for PR – pure and simple.
If not then it’s a belate April Fool’s joke.
Yes, Jennifer does have a movie coming. The last few years People has been very obvious that they give the “The Most Beautiful” cover to somebody who has a movie coming out. The recent covers have been Gwyneth Paltrow and Sandra Bullock. Gwyneth was especially WTF?
Me too. She obviouisly had something ‘major’ to promote and People went right along with her publicists for some kind of ‘exclusive’ fluff interview. So predictable. So boring.
I still think she’s spent too much time in the sun though.
I really thought they would try to change things up this year…either choose an LGBT icon (Laverne Cox, Ruby Rose) or a body-positive one (Robyn Lawley, Ashley Graham) . Or even a Hispanic actress (I seriously thought it might be Sofia Vergara for awhile), given their strong anti-Trump stance
Aaannndd….they pick a skinny, pretty, and straight white lady. #PeopleSoWhite
Ruby Rose reminds me of a female Justin Bieber. To borrow a Kaiserism, she just seems thirsty to me. I can’t with that one.
I dont really follow Ruby so I dont know what you mean but i think she is ridiculously hot. I would love to see her win this one day.
I can’t stand Ruby Rose. She was horrible on OITNB. She’s just an attention-seeking hipster.
I imagine that no relevant entertainment personality sees this People cover as a real get? It’s all so 90′s.
Yeah. Jen is heading into her 50s so it is definitely progressive in that way. Still, it would be nice to break from the standard hetero blonde white woman thing.
The previous choice, Sandra Bullock, was actually 50 at the time.
Jennifer has never been beautiful. I quite like her, she’s very pretty. My choice would have been Lupita. But then this is the mag that named Adam Levine Sexiest Man Alive…
I believe Lupita has been the “most beautiful” before. They usually stagger wins as far as multiple wins.
I think the Sexiest Man Alive choices have been way worse than whoever they pick for Most Beautiful. Whichever actress they pick usually fits the criteria of physical beauty on some level. But the guys they pick as sexy? I’m not sure. I believe there was one year Ryan Reynolds got the Sexy nod, and I didn’t understand that choice at all. I’d be more likely to call Aniston pretty on some level than to call Ryan Reynolds sexy.
Good for her. She may not be physically the most beautiful, but in spirit she is. She has staying power and proves it over and over again despite her critiques. She’s more than Rachel Green or her past marriage, she is a lovely person whose lack of negativity glows on her face. Way to go Jen…
Yeah! 🙂 (fist in the air)
And she looks not “done” in that puffy face, Saw villain way. I think it’s a great choice (albeit, yeah, a non-white, non-straight person would have really pushed the boundaries and made a statement).
I like her and I am glad an older woman has the title. It is all subjective but she isn’t an unbelievable choice.
Right on! I find her attractive in that bits and parts haven’t been tweaked to unbelievable limits.
Yep. I like how she defines beauty. I hope next year we’ll see someone like Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda, or Julia Louis Dreyfuss…or Soko (can’t get enough of this one…she’s a crack up).
I agree! Beauty doesn’t have an age limit and Mirren and Fonda are wonderful examples of that, enhanced I know but still😀
Not that she’s not a beautiful person, but I immediately did and eye roll.
She’s not beautiful, imho. She used to be very pretty and now she’s just an okay looking, exceptionally well maintained older woman. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, it’s pretty awesome! But Most Beautiful in the World is as insane as Hollywood gets.
Nearly choked on my fishbone😱!
I’m guessing here that this cover can be bought, right? Just like her Best Actress Oscar Nomination (attempt) for Cake… She’s quite thirsty, non?
Hahaha, that’s the funny thing. She’s acting like it’s a surprise.
Like, no.
Just like I’m sure it was a huge surprise and shock to her, when she won People Magazine’s Best Actress award last year for her role in “Cake”……….funny…..they didn’t have the People Magazine Awards again this year.
Oh wait, they did. For Jennifer.
Well People created an entire Awards show to give her an award. So this shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Shame because I could actually name several Beautiful Women that should or could have been chosen.
Jennifer is attractive.. she is not what Beautiful screams to me. Never has been what I call beautiful. And why is that a bad thing. It’s not. The vast majority of the world is not beautiful.
Yeah the thirst is strong with this one. I can’t even be happy that they used a woman over 40 because the woman is Jen.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I would rather see Charlize Theron get the cover. She had a huge hit last year with Mad Max and now she’s promoting The Huntsman. This would be so fitting along with her claim of beautiful women not getting meaty roles.
@lisa2
I wish they would’ve done Gina Rodriguez, Taraji P Henson, or Viola Davis……all three women are on pretty huge shows and have won major awards in the past few years for those shows.
Here’s the proof that the Huvane PR juggernaut continues. As we know from past winners, this “honor” requires a lot of hustle and the exchange of more than a few favors to obtain.
I guess the people who will be most happy about this are her fans they will get some supposed validation that their Jennifer still is to others what she is in their minds and are going to be bragging about her being chosen as most beautiful as if it was a great accomplishment not just for her but for them as well because if Jennifer can be the most beautiful then they are too.
Please. I think she’s an odd choice but I don’t hate her. I really think fans aren’t so invested that they need a magazine honoring her for “validation” or brag about this honor. I think *most* people like who they like and don’t think about it much more than that.
That movie looks beyond awful. Who are the people who would go see this trash? I’m proud to say I don’t know any.
Oh she looks nice on the cover…but the movie still looks awful.
Maybe they’re rewarding her for all the tips she’s given them over the years about her relationship with Justin
Are they blind?
+1!!!! Clearly they are!!
“Chiseling” away her face? If she’s that upset about it can’t she just stop contouring?
I was confused at that………and contouring–she’s referring to makeup right? So she wants her face to look as round as it did when she was young…….but she can’t stop contouring her makeup?
Well, at least we know why it looks like she got a fresh round of fillers before going on the Mother’s Day promo……they needed time to settle for this. Seriously, her face looked very tight to me during those interviews. Maybe she just gained weight? IDK.
I took her comment to mean that as you age you lose fat in your face. I have strong bones in my face, but they didn’t really start showing up until my late 30’s. So in that respect, I look much more ‘chiseled’ than I used to. Now I contour to hide the sagging jawline and turkey neck.
That’s how I took it, too. And for me there’s not enough cosmetic product in the world to hide the turkey neck I’m developing. I tend to stick to scarves and turtlenecks as much as possible!
Meh. Here’s how I look at it – this means nothing. But to her it would be a huge something, I think. So I’ll give her that. She does care and is genuinely flattered by this meaningless appointment.
That being said – at least it wasn’t a 20 year old? I mean, it’s nice that they picked a 47 year old even if she’s not a diverse choice.
I still think her more natural hair color is a lot more flattering than the bleached out shades she goes for.
“That being said – at least it wasn’t a 20 year old? I mean, it’s nice that they picked a 47 year old even if she’s not a diverse choice.
People rarely picks 20 something year olds for their most beautiful cover. Past cover models such as Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Christina Applegate, Beyoncé, Lupita, Sandra Bullock, Gwyneth Paltrow, JLo were all out of their 20’s when they received the title.
The actresses in their 20s probably don’t sell out covers these days.
Julia Roberts is the one actress I can think of who made the cover in her 20s, and she was a valuable commodity at the time. Maybe Jennifer Lawrence is today’s equivalent to her.
…well no one under 60 actually buys People, et al, anymore.
I’m surprised they still sell enough copies to make a profit anymore. Just last week I asked a friend who is a store clerk if she sold a lot of National Enquirers in a week. She said she hasn’t sold one in 3 years on the job.
Right? It makes People look so out of touch.
WTF?
So she contradicts herself in one interview: first she says she is now careful with her diet (nothing we haven’t heard before) then she tells us again how her agent criticized her chubby face and she had to slim down in her twenties, then she says you can get away with anything at that age. Which is it, Jen?
I’m missing something: how is that contradictory? She said her diet was awful in her 20’s, but has to be super careful how she eats (and sleeps and exercises NOW, in her forties). She also said that once she started eating better (ostensibly to lose weight), she realized how much better she not only looked, but felt.
I think you can get away with a lot more in your 20s. The body does what you want it to do when you diet and exercise. Later on, you have to work harder to get the same results. Plus, you don’t look quite as bad when you don’t get sleep.
In her case, she had to diet because she’s in a highly visual industry (and Hollywood is rather mean in telling normal-sized people that they’re fat) so I didn’t find her statement contradictory.
She is an attractive woman in a very accessible way but this is clearly all PR. People could really have gone for more interesting women than Aniston. She seems an ok person but has nothing interesting to say ever? Every interview is always something cosmetic with her.
Hey, at least there was no mention of Smartwater, to keep her hydrated, Aveeno, for her “beautiful” skin, and Living Proof to keep her security blanket looking sleek and shiny.
Baby steps.
Every time I see her Aveeno commercials I can’t help but cackle to myself. After years of smoking and sun worshipping her face without makeup looks like a distressed leather handbag and yet she is chosen to be the face of a skincare brand. Hollywood boggles the mind.
Let’s not forget the award show People threw, just so Jennifer could win, this woman is beyond pathetic.
IKR??? And that was their FIRST such award and apparently their last as they didn’t do it this past award season. Just like Jenny’s Woman of the Year award from GQ in 2005.
I WAS ROBBED!!!!
I voted for you lilacflowers 🙂
Lilac, you need a lotta cash to buy a People cover! ,:)
Yes, you were lilacflowers, but you certainly reign here. 👑
And I still have my original nose! And it is way cuter than the fake one she bought!
@Lilacflowers, who wrote: “And I still have my original nose! And it is way cuter than the fake one she bought!”
I voted for you, too! And she’s bought ‘two’ fake noses.
Yes, but I don’t believe that you took your hydration and sleep seriously enough! Also, if you were serious, you would have broken out your frosting cap.
Anyway, better luck next year and remember you should not be, ” feeling like a failure or allowing people to critique your life and make you feel like you’ve failed at something. That’s just toxic noise.”
But I hydrate endlessly! This People choice is toxic!
“So how does Aniston define beauty? ” Blah, honesty, blah, peace, blah, smart water, blah, blah…
Sure Jen. But don’t forget the 2 hour daily workouts with a personal trainer, the hair stylist/colouring, the expensive facials and tweaking, the nose job, the make-up artist, the private chef…..oh, and the weed and tequila.
Sure. But don’t you think any celeb asked that question would answer with platitudes vs the reality of most women in HW, who all work that hard to maintain their looks? It’s a huge part of their jobs.
Esmom, I think this (talking about her fitness) is her main /almost only job.
That movie? is this “award” really necessary?
It is pathetic, but hey, she finally got the crown, even if she had to pay for it.
I remember when People Magazine used to be a really good magazine that had great cover stories and would put interesting people on its cover. Recently, I read an article about Pat Conroy from a 1981 People that was fantastic. He was a writer, you know. Not some big sexy star. But People now panders and the quality has suffered. I do like Jennifer Aniston so this isn’t shade thrown at her. But come on, People! I wonder too if it was a toss up between Jennifer Aniston and Goop. Seriously. Melissa McCarthy would have been terrific. Adele (Hello?). Has Bey Bey ever been named Most Beautiful? Michelle Obama, has she ever been named? She deserves it hands down if not. So disappointing, People.
If you mean Beyoncé she was named the most beautiful on their 2012 cover.
This. I used to really love People magazine. Now, not so much. Between the Kardashians, Trump and the Palins, the magazine has really sold its soul to the devil.
Don’t forget the Duggers. People loves those gerbils.
I loved People mag back in the day too but the fact is that was before CB and the internet, which offer so many more, and more timely, choices. It’s funny to imagine a time when we’d run to the mailbox or newsstand for it, because it really was one of the only sources for celeb news.
And it’s not the only print mag that’s changed/lost something. TIME today is not the TIME of years ago, imo.
Yeah, I cancelled my subscription to Time. It wasn’t worth it.
I enjoyed it back in the day too, it was a mix of celebrity stuff and really good articles about interesting people and stories. Now it’s just an outlet for publicists.
I don’t dislike Jen and I do think she’s very pretty, but this is kind of silly.
While she is pretty, she is far from being the most beautiful woman in the world. Give me a break!! Something is fishy here.
She is not even the most beautiful “Jennifer” in Hollywood.
Jennifer Lopez,Jennifer Garner,Jennifer Lawrence,Jennifer Love Hewitt…
Did they seriously refer to her as the “GIRL Next Door”?
I guess Julia Roberts and Kate Hudson, her co stars, declined the cover.
#dead
You forgot Jennifer Connelly.
Julia Roberts has done the cover 3 times, I think. She’s someone I can vaguely remember being on the cover a fair amount of times.
Kate Hudson was on the cover as well.
Jennifer Aniston has made the cover before as well.So I would prefer Julia or Kate since they insist on using the same women over and over.
It says in this blog post that this would be Aniston’s 2nd time and also notes that he last one was in 2004. If Julia made the cover, this would be her 4th chance at it. I don’t mind Kate Hudson, but I kind of get why they wouldn’t go with her (I actually wouldn’t have even known she was in this movie if not for this discussion. I thought she had moved on to selling exercise clothing.)
Except for Lopez she’s considerably more attractive than all the other women you listed.
Plus People’s Most Beautiful isn’t based on physical appearance alone…
I don’t think Jennifer Aniston is more beautiful than Jennifer Garner,Jennifer Lawrence or Jennifer Connely .I will give you Jennifer Love Hewitt.
If Jennifer Love Hewitt got the cover, I don’t think anyone would buy it, even though she’s pretty in a conventional way.
You know, it’s funny, for years and years I bought People magazine…it used to come out on Friday and I would faithfully pick it up. Then I found my gossip websites, and People magazine suddenly looked quaintly archaic, a relic from another time and place, like Photoplay from the 60’s. Do people still actually buy this magazine? And why, when there’s so much more interesting stuff online? Very interesting.
My mom always bought me a subscription. I totally looked forward to Friday afternoon, when I knew it would arrive. Faithfully read it cover-to-cover. She passed away 5 years ago and now I can’t remember the last time I read one.
Well once again they get it wrong.. but that has been the case for years.
She’s popular among the People demographic and she’s got a film coming out. Of course they picked her.
Hmm, on one hand it’s nice they picked an older woman, and someone that’s not the traditional beautiful in the sense that she’s not perfect. But she has played with her face. And I really thought it would be someone more diverse. Lupita? Gina Rodriguez? Heck even Jennifer Lopez is beautiful or was she recently chosen?
I think this is more of an award that people have to be game for, like actively want but I do hope they asked other woman that were more diverse and maybe they turned it down.
Can we stop with the mini-can majority? It’s getting old. I’m a 42 year old blue eyed, blonde haired Puerto Rican who loves her Toyota Sienna. It’s the only minivan that offer all wheel drive and fits my whole extended family when they visit and we can go on vacation together and I can go food shopping and to Lowe’s and clothes shopping all in one trip. Doesn’t mean that I automatically love all things white, skinny and Republican. Stop projecting narrow views on all women. Sheesh.
Mini-van (stupid auto-correct)
Lupita and Jennifer Lopez have both been People’s most beautiful woman.
I mean look it’s not like she isn’t pretty. She is. I personally think there are others prettier but none that made the list (or at least that where mentioned in the article).
What I do find so odd about women in Hollywood is they get so offended (looking at you Blanchett and Reese) about being asked fashion questions the RED CARPET where they are wearing a FREE gown that cost more then most people’s cars but they will gladly sit down for a most beautiful shoot? Do they not see the disconnect? I mean honest to god if they want more substance and equality demand it in print and television interviews that’s where it can make an impact. Stop allowing yourself to be objectified here if it’s such a problem.
I hate these titles, like is she really the most beautiful woman in the world? Did they scour the world?
They just needed to look outside and I’m sure they’d see at least 5 women prettier.
She isn’t beautiful she may be pretty but not beautiful.
There are great beauties but she’s not one of them.
The most beautiful cover(s) have always been a paid for spot by the studios so no it didn’t just start with Jen A, like some of these comments would try and make you believe. Good grief. It’s a people cover- it’s not that serious. Jen A is beautiful to many (since you know beautiful is subjective and not everyone will agree) so it was still a good choice. I had to laugh when I saw she got the cover because I knew the claws would come out, and I wasn’t mistaken.
This. Practically every time someone is chosen for most beautiful woman or sexiest man alive for People, it’s a why them and doesn’t make sense compared to others that could have been chosen. It doesn’t mean anything and people take it too seriously.
Thank you! It’s always like this, whether it’s most beautiful, or sexiest or whatever, whether you’re the cover or just a quarter page towards the end of the feature. Either the actor or actress is about to start promoting something and the studio ‘pays’ for it, or the actor or actress is in a bit of a lull and they ‘buy’ it themselves to get their name back out there. If the studio’s buying it, you’ll suddenly see a lot more ads for their productions in People. If an actor gets it for themselves, they’ll be doling out a few exclusives or interviews. In this case it was clearly the studio.
This isn’t anything new, nor is it something only Jen’s PR person is involved in. It’s a really basic PR strategy that goes back to Old Hollywood, and all these comments that buy into it as something more than an ad are the reason it still works.
I don’t think people believe that it started with Jen. We have been saying stuff like this on C/B for years. We agree that the cover model is bought and paid for. Did you not see the Gwyneth Paltrow post when she won the same title in 2013? We are pretty much saying the same thing now as we did then but this go around it’s Jen’s time.
We know this isn’t to be taken seriously but we can still give our opinions about the person they chose or who we would have liked to seen on the cover. After all this is a gossip site.
Yeah, but at least the person typically seems relevant to the current times. Jen is…not that.
The people most relevant to the current times are probably the Kardashian/Jenners but I don’t want to see any of them on the cover.
Rihanna, Adele, Gigi, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita, Alicia V., Cate Blanchett…Plenty relevant, current stars that aren’t the Kartrashians.
If we go by that list, I think Aniston is still as relevant. I definitely think she’s as relevant as Sofia Vergara. Honestly, I think they usually go with someone super-famous. And Aniston fits that category. Anytime I’ve seen that cover someone extremely well-known usually gets the title.
I think Jennifer Lawrence could have been on the cover, but I could actually see her not wanting to be on the cover at the present time because of the non-stop exposure she had in recent months. I don’t even see Adele doing anything not related to music, so I think she’d laugh at the accolade.
Rihanna IS truly beautiful, but I don’t know how often music stars get this kind of cover. The cover spot seems to be reserved for actresses (which I guess would always keep the Kardashians out — yay).
I have also never seen anyone on that cover who isn’t traditionally slim.
These covers are always bizarre. But she should win best body for an over 40. She looks so fit and healthy.
Nah, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Gabrielle Union, Rachel Weisz, Regina King, Chilli from TLC and Sandra Bullock all have better bodies in my opinion. They are all over 40 and they all look healthy and fit. I will add Jada Smith as well.
I think they’re all equal in the body dept. Very few people in Hollywood look like they need Richard Simmons’s help.
While I am glad that they choose a woman over 40 again, much like Sandra Bullock, they photoshopped her into oblivion.
And with any Jennifer Aniston story, my reaction is always Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….
She is a naturally attractive woman with a great attitude about life. That being said, it was a very vanilla choice. Most beautiful? No way.
If Jen was really left in her ” natural” state, I doubt she would be even considered attractive. Average-looking would be more her category.
Jennifer is an attractive woman but beautiful is a stretch and most beautiful even more so. I never liked Friends or her hair or her fashion sense.
People magazine has been a PR joke forever and dated on top of that. There are so many other women who would have made for a better cover, but in the grand scheme of things I don’t think People is even relevant anymore.
I like that they picked someone who has a little more interesting face than the traditional GOOP looking blond. And I like that they picked someone who is in their 40’s. That said, she appears to do nothing of interest spending most of her time working on her physical appearance and going on beach holidays. She is neutral and uninspired in so many ways. Adel has my vote.
Thinking about it I wish they would stop the most beautiful and most sexy articles. It’s messed up when you think how many celebs will not get picked because certain people don’t deem them beautiful or sexy. It’s like you have to be born attractive in order to be picked. It’s just so shallow. It’s like the cool kids in high school and who gets picked most beautiful and prom king and queen. Enough already.
Like beauty pageants, it’s a stupid, dated tradition. Why not convert it to star of the year, or something more interesting than “Most Beautiful”? It’s 2016, People, come on!
Yeah, “Star of the Year” makes more sense.
“Most Beautiful” is too subjective, and it kind of makes it sound like you have the potential to only be good-looking for one year, and completely lose your looks the next.
Good lord…she’s soooo milquetoast!! There’s no way in this world that that woman is ostensibly ‘beautiful’…cute at the most. She couldn’t even take a good picture for the cover
Really, in the whole world? In who’s world?! Apparently the editors at People Magazine live in a very small one.
People really needs to stop with this nonsense. First Goop, now Jennifer. Both are attractive women but hardly beautiful. And those poor celebs who don’t make People’s list? Do they feel left out because they are not considered beautiful? *snorts
I really don’t think more established celebs care if they don’t make the list. This is something more for new and people trying to make it.
And women that ARE actually Beautiful; don’t need that validations. Fans like to see their favorites.. but the actual celeb probably has more important things going on. Maybe at the beginning of their careers.. but once you make it they for the most part leave this kind of stuff behind.
Well some of them do anyway.
I guess Sandra Bullock didn’t have ‘more important things going on’ last year, or is she not established enough? How about when Gwyneth won? Or Julia?
I guess they didn’t leave this silly stuff behind. Oh wait. You mean Angelina. Who sold her wedding pictures to this same magazine…
The choice of Sandra and Gwyneth proved my point. I think Sandra is pretty. I don’t think of her as a striking Beauty nor Gwyneth.
And Angelina has nothing to do with it. and once again people like you make it about her. Just like with SMA many turn it DOWN and they keep going until they get the person that will say YES. I know JLaw was asked and said NO. OH and for your INFO.. she did turn it down several times. And her wedding pics have nothing to do with this at all. But the reach always comes form people like you and it is always about her.
My point wasn’t just about looks. You said that established stars are above this and don’t need the validation. That once they make it ‘ they leave this kind of stuff behind’, which isn’t true at all.
It’s always about Angelina with you, even if you don’t say her name, you’re not as subtle as you think you are. So there’s no reason to get all bent out of shape and go all CAPS LOCK. If she was on the cover, you’d be beyond thrilled.
And please stop saying ‘people like you’. It’s a bit much to say it twice and you don’t know me at all.
@lizabeth.
I’m not bent out of shape.. My comment was about MBW.. and you are the one that threw up Angelina.. and it is always about Angelina with some of you. And you are not as subtle with your comment either. Just because someone says something negative about Jennifer it has nothing to do with Angelina. My comment was tame compared to some.. But since you seem to read everything I post; then note that I have never said anything negative about precious Aniston. Unlike some of you regarding Jolie.
Lizabeth why are you Aniston loons so OBSESSED with Angelina Jolie? It’s pretty clear you are eaten up with hate and cannot make a rational comment on Jennifer Aniston without dragging up Jolie. A lot of people dislike/hate Aniston and for many it has nothing at all, whatsoever to do with Jolie. You are coming across as an unhinged troll trying to stir up trouble. Just get over it or seek help.
Most annoying would be more like it…or most available cause she can’t seem to keep a man long enough to have his baby.
Burnishing your feminist credentials, are you TOPgirl?
No…just speaking truths…has nothing to do with being a feminist or feminism or anything. I suppose truth hurts, correct?
You are correct that your comments have nothing to do with being a feminist or feminism “or anything.”
At her level of wealth, she would have a baby if she wanted one. “Keeping a man” would not be required. She obviously just doesn’t want kids.
Even thought I don’t think the choice was a good one.. Why did they do such a generic cover. It looks like something from Good Housekeeping. It looks just so Generic, Bland and Boring.. She has done far better covers.
These most beautiful titles are definitely pr promos. I’d rather see the women of huntsman too. Any of them…Jessica, Emily or Charlize. Oh well, Jen is a guaranteed seller for people so I get it
My issue is that they keep recycling the same people. What is this the 90’s? Is there a limited supply of beautiful people?
I don’t think there’s a limited supply of beautiful people but probably a limited supply of beautiful people the general public are willing to read about. Pre-plastic surgery, Megan Fox was very beautiful, but did I really have a willingness to read about her? Not really.
Are you kidding me? She’s barely even relevent anymore? Most beautiful woman? Sorry People, you’ve lost any and all crediblity you ever had.
I like that they chose a woman in her forties!!
Yes. Good point.
Well I’m ok with this pick. She’s beautiful in an ‘average’ way, and previous winners have been Kate Hudson, Christina Applegate, and Drew Barrymore, so the bar’s not that high.
Nobody has ever taken this seriously and it’s definitely PR related, but it’s funny to see the usual suspects claiming that she bought another award/doesn’t deserve this. If it was fair, it would be a rotation of Charlize, Marion, Irina Shayk, Eva Mendez, and Lupita every year (in my opinion).
Yes, with Margot Robbie, Salma Hayek, Rachel Weitz and a couple of others thrown in.
They need to stop with these stupid “most beautiful in the world” issues. Really the whole world huh? No, this is based on just Hollywood and who needs some pr or has had a good amount of pr within the past year. That’s all it is.
THe Most Normal Looking Middle Age Woman/ The Most Likely to Spout Platitudes – that’s more like Jenjen.
I hope that stoopid movie flops with a big wet ugly sound. I suppose they filmed it in Atlanta because favorable tax cuts, but then change your cast to reflect the city’s demographic. Are those characters living in gated communities or what?
Boring choice.
Happy Mini-Van Mother’s Day!
No wonder celeb mag sales are plummeting.
That cover is so over lit, it’s like Lucille Bluth’s license picture.
ICANNOTBREATHE!!
Haha yasss!
Delighted for Jen. Very pretty woman.
Does it just alternate between Jennifer and Gwyneth now? It seems the only time I read about this, it’s one of them. Oh, wait. And Julia Roberts.
Would prefer Sofia Vergara to Jenn Aniston if they’re looking at beauty over 40. Plus a Latina would be nice change. And you know she’d be on board with the press/interview, and liked enough by minivan. But I guess she’s not a movie stahhh.
Jennifer Garner would have been perfect: think of the sales! Fresh start for fresh faced beauty! Beyond the dark (k)night, her beautiful journey into light.
Scratch that: I would have loved it to be Mariah Carey though. New love. New money. New body. New tour. New world’S most beautiful. And think of the champagne, bubble bath interview! It would have been epic.
They could have done Melissa McCarthy. From bridesmaid to the boss. World’s most beautiful.
Susan Sarandon would be great. New face of beauty line, political, mother, and still as beautiful as ever
Ahhh I give up. So many women would have been more interesting than Jennifer Aniston. I can’t think of a less boring choice. Alba, Hudson, Goop, Reese, Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes… i find them all more interesting.
how has rachel mcadams never been named most beautiful? she is just stunning
I don’t agree that she’s “stunning” (she’s just barely above average to me), but this “title” is total PR,bought and paid for by publicists. Based on the admittedly little I know about Rachel, I can’t imagine she’d be interested.
It is 2016 why is People Magazine still all up on Antison’s jock? Still trying to convince the world that she’s beautiful or interesting. You’re not fooling anyone.
I know is 4:20 and im half in the bag but WHAT YEAR IS THIS!??! LOLOLOLL
Why? Just why?! Because she has a crap movie coming out that’s produced by a company that also own people mag? What a bunch of boloney.
She sure has the best PR team in the business. Somehow she keeps her name in the news while being the most dull celeb around.
This cover is bought not earned. Just like her People mag award for the stale Cake film last year was bought. Funny how those awards were a one time thing! hmmmm
I want to know when they are going to put the actual most beautiful woman in Hollywood on the cover: Charlize Theron. I guess Aniston has the much stronger PR team.
The other day on the Charlize story, people were saying that Charlize really isn’t that pretty but generic and bland. No matter who is chosen, there will be tons of people arguing that the woman “really isn’t that pretty”. Welcome to the dark side.
Yeah you’re right. I don’t see how anyone can say Charlize Theron is not pretty. Those people probably just don’t like her. Saying Charlize Theron is unattractive is like saying Paul Walker was unattractive. Some things are just undeniable. Now Jennifer Aniston’s looks are up for debate.
No one would say Charlize Theron is unattractive. I think people were simply saying that she wasn’t as attractive as the media made her out to be (which is probably the case with most stars. Words like “goddess” get thrown around, and that’s when a tone of dissent comes in. Someone could be thinking “well, yeah, she’s pretty, but I wouldn’t say she’s a goddess”). I suspect the same could be said for Paul Walker — he’s good-looking, but I could easily some people thinking to themselves that he might not be THAT good-looking, especially if you come from a different culture.
@Tara I don’t think Charlize Theron is beautiful. She’s a person who looks great with the right makeup, but when she takes it off she’s just average. Plus, she’s been messing with her face. Beautiful is subjective. Not thinking Charlize is beautiful, does not mean you dislike her. People will have different opinions.
Guess what?? I have a minivan. I love my minivan. It is awesome. I also have my own opinion about everything and cannot recall ever wanting to see a Jen Aniston movie badly enough to go to a theater to see it. People with minivans do not receive an automatic subscription to People you know.
It’s not like it’s a democratic process to select most beautiful, but as someone in my early 40s (who is most definitely not part of the minivan majority) it’s nice to see a women in her mid-40s get chosen. Heck, I’d love to see Susan Sarandon get a most beautiful nod. Not because I think women should be constantly judged by the their sexual allure, but because I want to eliminate the cultural expiration date on sexuality.
I want to be a sexual being my whole life – not “sexualized” mind you – but to be able to buy attractive age-appropriate clothing my whole life, see films about women my age having healthy relationships, and generally be considered just as much a part of society in my 70s as I was in my thirties.
Are we out of women?
Ha ha – love it!
Jennifer Aniston has great legs and great hair, and is always beautifully groomed, but my goodness she is far from “beautiful”! Her face is plain, bordering on homely, with a touch of “man-ish” thrown in.
Stop trying to make Jennifer work, Gretchen (I mean, entertainment industry)!
FYI…it’s make fetch “happen”, not “work”
Any time my husband sees a pic of her anywhere he says ‘oh look its Iggy Pops twin!’ haha. Once that is seen, it can’t be unseen lol.
Lmao!!!!
I like the choice. Glad she is older and glad its someone who isn’t perfect. She’s nice and pretty which is a good combo.
Please.
Boring oatmeal, meh.
I don’t hate this. Nice to see someone 40+.
Really?! I guess People has never seen Monica Bellucci. Or as someone said upthread, Jennifer Connelly. I’m sure I’m forgetting a few ladies, but yes, this is silly.
Since when do we (not her) take a cover like this that serious?
That being said, I find her genuinely stunning in an unusual way. I’m not a sucker for blue eyes, but I find her eyes so captivating.
And the interview, if you actually watch it, sounds low-key and she kind of tries to extend the definition of beauty.
Much ado about nothing. The woman is harmless, leave her be.
Ok, Mr. Huvane! Maybe spend your time getting her good roles rather than pointless covers.
She is far from harmless, she has the best PR team in the business. She is BFF with the vile C. Handler, her hsband who lives in another city is BFF with disgusting Terry Richardson, birds of a feather……
When has she ever extending the definition of beauty? She is a walking advertisement for all things superficial. She is almost 50 & best known for her HAIR. Think about that.
I’d like to see Jen and Justin be godparents to Terry’s kids. Then maybe people might have a clearer view of them.
Yes it beats me how she gets a free pass with everything. Other celebs are raked over the coals for 1 tenth of all the horrible stuff she has done. Then ‘neutral’ (so called) people wonder why some hate her and get so frustrated over her.
She only extends the definition of beauty to explain why she’s been deemed the most beautiful woman in the world when we all know she’s barely above average. Celebrities pay for that title. She must think we dont’ know this so she’s going to explain to us how she is the most beautiful woman in the world by redefining what beautiful means. In what world I ask because there are alot of beautiful women in this world and she is by far not one of them. Since there seems to be some confusion or unawaredness, let me help:
Nina Dobrev, Lopita Nyongo, Mila Kunis, Allisandra Ambrosio, Sandra Bullock, Kerry Washington, Irena Shayk, Gal Gadot, Kiera Knightly, Cate Blanchet, Rihanna, Anjolina Jolie, Michelle Pfiefer, Kate Beckinsale, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Cindy Crawford, Kate Upton, Bar Paly, Zoe Saldana, hell even Victoria Justice.
But they really think Jennifer Aniston is the most beautiful woman in the world – even by stretching the definition – riiiiiiiiight.
I’ve never found her attractive. She hasn’t done any good work professionally in a long time, or personally ever. Maybe she appeals to the People demographic, but I just don’t get it.
I’ve never understood it either.
I find her public persona fake and contrived and her looks are massively over rated (as well as her so called ‘comedic talent’).
I don’t get that “comedic talent” thing either. When you see her in interviews she is seldom funny. The interviewer has to do all the work. I just don’t see her being a great comedic actress. Most funny actresses are funny off screen too. She is not
** wanted to make sure my comment was very exact. And not subtle.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
+1 😀
“I’m very curious to see what I would look like with really short hair. But I’ll never do it. Never. I’m a long hair girl. It’s like a security blanket.”
YAWN.
That’s a big title to live up to. Whenever they label someone the most beautiful woman in the world I can’t help but feel it’s insulting to other women. Someone at my work left a magazine in our lunchroom that was running with “The Most Beautiful People of 2016”. I threw it in the bin. Which is what I do whenever anyone leaves that sort of crap lying around at work.
Is this “The Onion”?
Condyp good one. My two cent is Sandra B is the “most beautiful.”
ET just reported that there will be three covers to choose from… are you fcuking kidding me?
May this current PR move land as hard as Aniston presenting the Oscar with David Oyelowo, the legit Biggest Oscar Snub.
Was this decided at a 4:20 gathering.
She is so boring and BLAH. Ugh. The “mostt beautiful” title is a joke anyways, but she is BLAND.
I re-read Jennifer Aniston’s 2004 People interview and she really has not grown much at all. Babies, diet, vacations and hair. Same subjects, 12 years later. Does Aniston get bored at all talking about the same crap a decade later? I would hope so.
Yawn. Next? She isn’t the beautiful as much as paid People Mag the most money.
Does anyone know if she wears colour contacts?
Are her eyes that colour naturally ?
I don’t think she wears contacts.
I believe she does. She is Greek and her original hair color was dark brown before she started bleaching it. A few times when she was snapped by paparazzi she was covering her eyes. I think it was because those times she didn’t have her blue contact lenses in.
How much did her agent pay for this? She is plain Jane who managed to snag the hot star quarterback (Pitt) and that is the only reason she’s famous, otherwise she would have went the route Lisa Kudrow, LeBlanc etc went. People like her because she is plain and not beautiful, therefore not a threat to them. Next up: Donald Trump awarded the title of The World’s Most Smartest Man….. smh
Shouldn’t the “winner” be required to do the requisite photo shoot without make-up and hair?
