This is going to sound so silly, but I love the fact that Christian Siriano is a real designer who actually makes real gowns for real stars for real awards shows. I remember when Siriano was on Project Runway, for the love of God. And out of all of the designers in the world, Siriano dressed the most ladies at the Emmys. One of the most discussed Sirano looks of the night was Angela Bassett’s bright chartreuse look. If I’m being honest, I think Sirano’s gowns can often veer too hard towards the pageant end of things, but this was easily one of my favorite gowns of the night. Bassett looked amazing and she got a special shout-out from her husband (Courtney B. Vance) when he won.
Anna Chlumsky got the worst Christian Siriano gown. In her defense, she just had a baby. Still… that’s not an excuse for a terrible dress.
Maura Tierney & Neve Campbell got the more pageanty looks from the Christian Siriano line. I dislike Maura’s dress just because it looks so “prom” to me. Neve’s dress is just sort of boring.
Niecy Nash was a favorite on Twitter and you could really tell that she felt amazing in her Siriano gown. She walked the carpet for a long time and made sure everyone got a photo of her gown. She did look great!
And finally, here’s Kathy Bates in a two-piece Christian Siriano. This looks fine, a little bit bulky, design-wise, up front. Pro-tip: when dressing a top-heavy woman, don’t put her in anything with that much extra fabric.

Anna looks amazing after just having a baby…except for the dress. Maybe she was just really feeling her legs and trying to hide her stomach.
It’s like playing superhero dress up with a comforter, cape plus ventilation.
I thought it looked like a bath towel for the dress and a comforter for the cape. Just like something a 3 year old would pull together after getting out of the bath – “look at me, I’m going to the ball!”. And the way she bunched up the cape part in one arm to walk the aisle when Veep won made it look like she brought a giant security blanket. She’s a gorgeous woman, sorry that she got talked into this monstrosity. I’m mostly sad a talented designer didn’t allay her fears and design her something really flattering. Seems like Siriano was as uncomfortable with her being post-baby as she was.

Angela Bassett is stunning, absolutely divine. But i can’t stop wondering about that stain on her dress!
Boob sweat. Happens to the best of us.
You know, the first thought that came to my mind when i saw those stains was – “wait, she has a new baby?” coz i thought she was leaking!
Oh, so that’s what it is! We all sweat, no problem there, but this is exactly why these gowns should be made from a fabric that doesn’t show sweat so obviously. Points down for the designer.
Points down for the publicist and/or stylist too. You dont send clients down that carpet without a final look over.
Gosh, I did not even notice. Angela is a goddess. Anyway, it was 90 degrees, felt like 140, which is warm even for LA in mid-September. She was most certainly checked over before she went on the red carpet, but pretty much everyone was glistening from sweat and the heavy gowns did not help one bit.
Her boobs are higher though, it looks more like oil.
You can see the rivulet of sweat in a couple photos. It shows up there because that’s where the fabric finally catches the droplets after a loose deep V.
I know this from my life living as a gross person.
Oil would be on top of her cleavage, any where your skin touches the material and gets dragged. Also know this because of the above reason.
Angela’s and Niecy’s looks were some of my favs for the night. Everything just worked perfectly together.
I remember Niecy from Clean House (I love that show so much) and am so proud of where she is today. She was so good on Getting On.
Kathy looks good, but I wish that she had one better jewelry and styled her hair differently.
I also used to watch Clean House and think of it whenever I see Niecy.
Niecy can do no wrong. Loved her since Reno 911. She is glowing, flowing and blowing every one away with her attitude. *BAM!! (Reno reference…lol)
Kathy Bates is beautiful and looking healthy. All she needs is HRM’s pearl necklace to complete looking like a Queen. To me, she is right up there with Meryl Streep (but, she outperforms in driving skill – Fried Green Tomatoes, any one?)
I want Angela Bassett’s secret to aging gracefully slow. Her smile and cheekbones go on for days and days. This look reminds me of a better 90’s Madonna geisha look. Nothing really matters but Angela!
Hoping Christian Siriano turns to ALL the rage for Hollywood’s elites. He has proven he is willing and CAN dress for all sizes. Next, Siriano stores for the female shopper. He just continues to excel <3
Me too! When she started getting real acting roles I was so surprised she was the Clean House lady, but I have been very happy for her as her career has taken off. She’s on the new season of Masters of Sex on Showtime now.
I love Siriano, but Anna’s dress is a crime.
CS gets so many actresses because he doesn’t just dress the size 0-2’s. He makes women feel beautiful no matter their size or shape. His dresses may not always be great but sometimes he comes up with gorgeous creations and I like his commitment to colour!

Yes, the dresses are mainly simple, elegant, not the most exciting or fashion forward designs but the ladies obviously feel beautiful in them. And I cheer CS for achieving that.
Niecy Nash is the best dressed of the YEAR for me. I can’t stop looking at pics of her in that dress. Stunning!

Angela Bassett was best dressed for me. That dress with her skin tone was perfection. I also loved Niecy Nash’s dress and her confidence in it.
As much as I love Christian Siriano and the fact that he isn’t afraid of women with meat on their bones (and I love him eternally for creating dresses for Leslie Jones after she was shunned by other designers!), his design for Anna after childbirth is very “1950’s-hide your body because you just had a baby” to me. Maybe Anna designed this with him for all we know, or he simply created exactly what she asked for, but she was pretty much wearing a sack. This was a horrible look.

I, too, love that Siriano has become a well-known and respected designer. He doesn’t always get it right, but when he does (which is actually pretty often imo), he knocks it out of the park.
