Ana Faris and Chris Pratt are not responsible pet owners by any stretch. In 2011, Chris gave away their 15 year-old cat through Twitter. It turned out that the cat wasn’t able to use the litter box any longer and since Ana was pregnant they were concerned about toxoplasmosis. Chris didn’t reveal this until after he got some well-deserved flack on Twitter. He eventually found a new home for the cat, who has likely since gone over the rainbow bridge, hopefully after spending their remaining years lounging on windowsills and getting their cheeks rubbed.
About four years ago Anna adopted a Chihuahua from an animal shelter called Kinder4Rescue. Ana and Chris’s son Jack, now four, was born in August of that year so it’s unclear if their adopted the dog before or after they had Jack. Regardless the dog suffered a similar fate to their cat – they gave him away, likely to some random person. Only Anna signed an agreement that she would turn the dog, Pete, back over to the shelter if they could no longer keep him. That didn’t happen and poor Pete was found wandering in the streets, starving. A vet ran his microchip and returned him to the shelter. Ana owes a fine of $5,000, as per the contract with the agency.
Anna Faris owes an animal shelter $5,000 for breaking a signed adoption agreement … according to the shelter, which says her Chihuahua was found homeless and in bad shape.
Kinder4Rescue owner Laurel Kinder tells TMZ … Faris signed a contract when she adopted the dog, named Pete, 4 years ago agreeing to pay the fine if she ever turned it over to a new owner. The rule was created so they could always keep track of where the animal ends up.
The North Hollywood shelter says it got a call Friday from a nearby vet saying someone had found Pete emaciated, wandering the street. When the vet ran his microchip, Kinder4Rescue and Faris’ names came up. Faris hasn’t answered the shelter’s calls.
We spoke to sources connected to Anna and Chris Pratt and they say the couple is out of state, but they’ve gotten wind that Pete was found, and intend to make arrangements for the dog to be brought home. We were also told they had found a “nice family home” for Pete.
It’s unclear if that new home was temporary or permanent.
As of now, Kinder is putting Anna on its do-not-adopt list. Anna will have to prove she’s been actively looking for Pete to get out of the fine. Kinder is also thinking of suing for breach of contract.
Looking at the photo of this poor dog makes my heart hurt! Read what Chris said about their cat back in 2011, he sounds heartless. Also, the statement from the source makes no sense to me. How are Anna and Chris going to bring the dog home now? I hope the shelter prevents this and makes sure the dog is well taken care of. Not only should Anna and Chris be on this shelter’s “do not adopt” list, no other shelter should let them get a pet either. They treat pets as disposable and not like the family members they should be. As of press time, Chris and Anna have not addressed this issue through their social media accounts.
Look they still have cats. This was from two years ago, after they gave away their elderly cat. It’s possible they’re at a B&B but other photos make it seem like their porch.

I liked them, but neglecting dogs and cats and leaving them on the street to starve takes them about a thousand notches down in my book. I love my dogs so much, I couldn’t imagine leaving them on the street to starve!

The kind who could fly to the Caribbean 10 times a year and go snorkelling or skydiving or whatever but instead prefer to go out and shoot animals for entertainment then stuff their dead bodies into their freezer. This is not surprising.
I really thought they were better people than that. Horrible. That poor little pup and what it must have gone through!! And to give away an older cat so heartlessly. Really disappointing to read this. Changes my feelings about them both.
I have a chihuahuah and he’s difficult- he was abandoned to the worst shelter when we got him- so he’s fearful as well as being a chi. Also he rarely pees outside, and it’s been more than a part time job for me to deal with. We love his hurt sad little soul, and we keep trying to train him it’s a slow road! That said- it makes me even more determined to keep him because he’s so vulnerable to abuse. It pains me to know two wealthy individuals with -far more resources than me- would harm vulnerable animals. Really really horrible 🙁

My husband and I had the drunken ….if we won the lottery …. conversation last week. One thing that we absolutely agreed on was that the first few years of our imaginary ‘stinking rich’ stage of life would need to accommodate our aging dogs. No luxury hotels for us, but if we bought a camper van they could come with us as we toured Europe. No way would we cause them the distress of leaving them behind and more exotic locations would have to wait. So no, I can’t imagine giving away a dog or not doing everything in my power to keep them safe or find them if they went missing.
Once you get to Europe you don’t need to keep them in a camper van. In England, about 50% of pubs and a lot of hotels let dogs in. In France, they’re allowed pretty much anywhere. We’ve taken our gorgeous pooches to a Michelin star restaurant. Dogs are family!!!
My boyfriend and I took our dog on a road trip around Europe and Italy is amazingly dog-friendly, we couldn’t believe it. There are posters at petrol stations encouraging you to take your dog (or cat) with you so they don’t end up being abandoned or whatever the people who mix up living beings with stuffed toys do… We have a cat too, and a friend stayed over to look after her while we were away – she was so stressed because we weren’t there that her hair started falling off! 🙁 We have to think twice now and plan things out better, so that the cat suffers much less too.
I’m not even one of those people who are super crazy about my dogs, and I can’t imagine giving them away on twitter or just leaving them on the street.
ITA! This is an issue that makes me so uncontrollably and possibly Irrationally angry. There is a special place in hell for those who mistreat amimals and children. I have other soapboxes, for sure, but this one “hurts my heart” big time. The fine should be much higher.

Did she actually leave the dog on the street though? Or did they give away the dog to another person and THEY left the dog on the street? There’s a difference there.
I still dont agree with them giving away their pets away willy nilly. If you’re not prepared to take care of a pet during its life, then you shouldnt be adopting pets.
They gave the dog away to another person who must have lost or abandoned him – BUT Anna signed a contract with the shelter saying that she would return him to them rather than giving him away to some random if she no longer wanted to keep him. Those contracts are designed to prevent exactly this from happening. I hope the fine sticks.

I’m sorry, but children are children, and pets are pets. Both should be treated well and loved and cared for. But they are not interchangeable. Your pet is likely to die before you do. You are upset, you may or may not get another pet. God forbid anyone has their child die before they do.

Nameless, I do agree. I don’t have a problem with people who hunt or fish for food, but trophy hunters make me sick.
My husband hunts small game, but it gets eaten by someone. Not everyone who hunts is trash, despite notions to the contrary. He would never kill an elephant or anything of that nature. Our non hunting dog just had his annual Christmas portrait done, and the hunting dog spends his days napping on my pillow.
Pratt is exactly the type of person to do this. He kills coyotes for fun, and described in delighted detail how landowners invite people onto their land to slaughter coyotes for entertainment.

Same. F*ck them both. I adopted a dog and it didn’t workout… I was devastated. She was just too much for my family. My husband and I knew that she needed more than we could provide for her. She was a lab/border collie mix… she was just too active and we couldn’t keep up with her and our kids. We ended up finding her the perfect home! She now lives on a horse farm, with a wonderful family, and kids old enough to help with the dog! She’s so much better off. We just couldn’t hack it with her and three little ones (one being special needs). I spent a long time trying to find her somewhere she’d be truly happy… and did not have the kind of time or money that these people have at their disposal. I understand sometimes adopting an animal might not work out…it might not end up being the right decision for you or your family. But, do it right! This is a living, breathing, feeling animal. Have some f*cking respect!!! /end rant/
with respect you should have done your homework on breeds before adopting – that’s part of the whole taking a dog on thing….sometimes you get a really overactive dog from a usually calm breed but a Border Collie X err……
As a new mum who got so many “oh you’ll have to get rid of your two cats now” comments, these two and people like them can go f*ck themselves. It works if you put in the effort.
Exactly, my sister used to joke that if the baby is allergic to the cats, she’ll have to find the baby a good home. Everything turned out fine she just kept the cats out of the baby’s bedroom.
I must say its very interesting to see how other cultures absolutely love their pets,where I come from animals don’t get treated like ‘family’ usually they are guard dogs that are locked up and only get out during the night or they are strays. Most of the animal lovers I know here are from America and Europe, I actually have a South African colleague and when she told me her dog back home has medical insurance and goes to a doggy spa I was in disbelief.
My Lab doesn’t get to go to a spa. What he does get is unending love, belly scratches, bed privileges, and plenty of walks. Our favorite way to end the day is sitting on our front porch throwing his ball he so joyously retrieves. He is a very important member of our family and I simply adore him. I don’t understand people who treat animals poorly. It reflects so poorly on Anna and Chris to casually and heartlessly dispose of their pets. That poor little dog deserves so much better and I hope he is never returned to them.

I have to agree. I grew up on a farm and dogs and cats weren’t to pamper, but to help herd, kill, or be mousers. It’s so weird!
They can be working animals and be well treated and well loved. I have a hobby farm (veggie farm) and my animals (Dogs and cats) are part of my family, even though they work too. It’s not an either/or.
Yeah many places do not treat dogs/cats like they do here. However, once you know better, you do better. For example, it used to be common to keep “outside dogs”. As in, have a dog but it was never allowed in the house. Now, through research, we know how psychologically damaging that is for an animal that is a pack-animal in it’s very genes to be kept outside away from any family (it’s pack). So nowadays I don’t know anyone who keeps an “outside dog” because people realize it’s cruel.
My dog has insurence. It costs me about 400 dollars a year and it’s worth every penny.
There’s a happy medium I think. It is heartbreaking to see animals treated badly. But the animal as child mindset is too big a stretch.

They can drink special cat milk. Cats are normally lactose intolerant, but the cat milk is lactose-free. My kittens love their milk.

I honestly did not know that cats couldn’t have milk. I only have dogs, but the neighbor’s sweet barn cats come to visit occasionally. We don’t usually give them anything but water, but I’m glad I know the milk thing just in case

And I think Anna gets waaayyyyy too much credit — she might not be as vocal about their pet decisions as Chris is, but she clearly goes along with them just fine. Ok, so these two have been rubbing me the wrong way for awhile now. He seems smug and douchey. I generally like her, but this animal irresponsibility thing is obnoxious.
His response to giving away the cat:

Ugh!! I should go read more about this but I don’t want to. My brother had his cat euthanized for shitting outside the box. Well, the box was always filthy. I’m guessing the Pratt-Faris household didn’t do much in the way if troubleshooting. Couldn’t the cat have been limited to a few rooms?

They weren’t the only expectant parents concerned about toxoplasmosis. They are wealthy and probably live in a big multi-level house. They could have found a way to handle it without treating the cat that way. Now that their dog was found abandoned, we see that they just don’t care.
They have enough money they could start their own animal rescue or retirement home. People with abundant resources who can’t be bothered. Can’t stand either one of them anymore.
It seems like they are just jettisoning the animals that are too needy. Which is a horrible message to kids.
Yes toxoplasmosis is scary and dangerous for pregnant women, but you have enough money to have an on call maid. Or Chris could deal with it, you know, like regular families with pregnant moms and cats.
The risk of acquiring toxoplasmosis is waaaaaay over-stated by physicians. Probably because they’re rightfully worried about being sued by idiots.
I had three cats when I was pregnant, all indoor. My husband is away a lot for work, and when I asked my doctor about changing the litter box she said just wear gloves and wash your hands. My son was raised from birth with a litter box in the laundry room and it was easy enough to keep him away from it.
I do understand their distaste for having poo and pee all over the house, but it’s also pretty easy to keep the cat in its own area, or keep the baby in its own area. But only people that really love their animals would do this. Many, many people don’t form strong attachments to their pets. In fact, I think it’s possible that the majority of people aren’t ‘pet people’.
I have posted that douche comment a million times on these threads and everybody glossed over it because Pratt is “cute” or whatever. Maybe this incident will finally open people’s eyes up to how sh*tty this guy is.

When you agree to adopt a pet, you are responsible for it. I have a 10 year old cat and where I live, he lives. He’s part of my family. Period. It’s not always convenient and his vet bills get more expensive the older he gets, but that’s what I signed up for when I took him home.
Plenty of people with a fraction of the financial resources these two have make bringing a child into a house with pets work. These two were just lazy and felt the cat was expendable – which is horrible.
I’d bet the cat wasn’t using their litterbox because these two twits never bothered to empty it.

Awwww, Damn. I have always enjoyed these two, and I’m a HUGE Guardians of the Galaxy fan. (Grow, Groot!). I’m hoping there is substantial proof they looked for their dog (but then, when Tyler ran away, after I informed the vet, the SPCA etc, that was that. He was simply never heard from again….I always thought he’d find his way home…..never did). Maybe it was firecrackers and the dog took off. Let’s hope for the best here (tho I agree wholeheartedly we must plan for the worst; no new pets for these people till this story is cleared up). Hanging on to hope.

Kind of kills me though because I had a very difficult time getting my furbaby because I wanted a smaller rescue dog and because I didn’t already have a pet I didn’t have vet references which was a total non starter for a lot of private rescue organizations. Chris Pratt is clearly not an animal lover. He hunts animals for fun and likes to boast about it. He disposes of his pets whenever he gets tired of them or they become too much work. He tried to give away an elderly cat on Twitter like it was all a big joke.

Ugh this is freaking awful! The cat story really bothers me, I see this all the time when women get pregnant or have newborns, they just give a cat away and it makes me sick. Toxoplasmosis is extremely rare and only if a pregnant woman comes in contact with the feces, what a bs reason! I’ve had Facebook friends say they just didn’t have time for their animals after a baby comes, I understand having a baby is exhausting and animals become that one more thing that needs your attention, but you owe it to them to take care of them no matter what!! That feeling of being annoyed by them passes, once you get settled into a new routine you find time for them again, and a bonus is you get to watch your child grow up with them! I feel rage in my stomach now, I hate people who do this, it’s so unbelievably selfish.

Sorry — no hall-pass on your fur babies when you have a human baby. Unless an animal is violent and a threat to the child, there’s no excuse to not manage both.
As a single woman with three cats, I was so worried I called my vet before I called my OB/GYN when I got pregnant. I live in Colorado, so my vet personally knows the world authority on toxoplasmosis, who is at the University here. According to him, pretty much the only way a human can get toxoplasmosis is if the cat is undercooked.
Just to be on the safe side, I wore gloves and mask when I changed the litter box. And my infant son did just fine with his three kitty siblings. One of them is a Katrina foundling with PTSD who likes to mark our couch. Another cat was 16 years old with kidney problems, and needed fluids every other day.
If I can manage three cats and a kid by myself (with Grandma a thousand miles way), a couple of rich people can hire all of the help that they want.
We have a 6 year-old Labrador. My first child was born when she was nearly 2. I had so many well-meaning neighbours and other dog walkers offer to adopt our dog. Because looking after a child is challenging at best, especially if you have zero family close to you. It’s true, we struggled at first, but we persevered, moved house (with a huge garden and loads of woodland around, for our dog), and now have a second child who absolutely adores her furry sister. If we could do it, it is possible to not give up on your pet.
Pratt family reminds me a bit of a fellow dog walker we knew. They gave away their Beagle because they were expecting. Their little girl was heartbroken. What was worse, her parents had promised her a new dog (Bernese Mountain dog no less!) once the baby was over a year old. Totally despicable, teaching their child it’s acceptable to do this to pets.
That poor dog had been out on the streets a while. He was starving.
So many things wrong with this. She ignored the adoption shelter’s repeated calls, which shows no concern for this dog even if she gave him away. The people she gave him away to, did they even put out flyers for the poor dog? It looks like he had been lost for a while by how skinny he is.
She had tweeted yesterday before this broke. Then she went silent after this story came out. Not one tweet responding to any of this. No personal statement from her directly on this matter. which shows me they are idiots and irresponsible animal owners.

Her show sucks (sorry janney) and she sucks! I’ve been looking into adopting a dog shortly and stories like these justify why people need to adopt more dogs from shelters. The abuse or shortcomings from losy owners upsets me so much! Poor dog
This was actually hard for me to read. A pet is so dependent on you, you’re the only reality they know. The fact that there are people who toss them when they’re aging or ill and need you the most just breaks my heart.

There’s nothing heartless about not liking animals, any more than not liking kids. What’s heartless is having them and not caring for them properly.
This couple are assholes. They have all the money in the world to arrange decent care, if they don’t want personal charge. And while they’re thinking of their child’s welfare, how about they consider the lesson in personal responsibility they are teaching? Their son is learning that a living, sensate creature is not their problem, even when it’s their responsibility. That’s an awful lesson to teach a child. So yes, they are bad parents too.
Effwits. And I am not someone who is soppy about pets – I love my own, but I don’t see a lot moral in keeping carnivores alive via factory farmed meat from other, less doted on animals. I love my pets because they love us and enrich our lives, and having taken charge of their lives in this way, they need good food, decent insurance and sufficient stimulation and exercise. They repay that a thousand fold with affection, but even if they didn’t it would still be my job. I had a choice, and power, and they didn’t.
They could have returned the dog to the shelter with a large donation and an apology. Not jettisoned it like a worn out couch.
An elderly cat pooping all over the house when there’s a pregnant woman living there who is at very real risk for toxoplosmosis is a legitimate reason to find it a new home. Asking “who wants a cat?” on twitter was not the best idea though. And Chris could have given a thoughtful response and not been a jerk about it.
But there’s really no excuse for what happened to their dog. I can’t really figure out a good reason why they wouldn’t bring the dog back to the shelter if they no longer wanted it.
Solution? Put the cat in its own area. I’m sure their house was big enough.

Yeah, just don’t touch cat waste if you’re pregnant. When I was pregnant my kittens were just babies and had not yet mastered the litter box. My doctor was not concerned at all as long as I wasn’t handling the waste/litter. It’s really not that difficult. These two are just lazy and heartless.
No way, the cat was 15 years old and they abandoned it, pathetic and disgusting. A change in litter habits suggests a problem, either physical or psychological, they probably didn’t even take it to the vet to find out why. I can’t imagine having an animal for 15 years then giving it away when it’s near the end, that poor baby.
For all we know, the cat may have been treated terribly (as in yelling, disciplinary attempts) that made the issue worse. He seems to have a short fuse and missing empathy chip.
No, no it isn’t. Toxoplasmosis is only shed by an infected cat for about a week. After that there is no risk from its feces. Even if the cat IS shedding, it takes 24 hours for the toxo oocysts to sporulate, so if the feces are cleaned up daily, no real risk. Wearing gloves and a surgical mask, or even just washing hands thoroughly, reduces the risk to almost zero. And many people who’ve had cats for years are already immune to toxo.
I think there are rare cases where re-homing is necessary, but the vast majority of them are people just being foolish or selfish. I don’t know the full details of their situation, but coupled with what happened to this poor dog, it’s pretty clear they are terrible pet owners.
It’s especially sad when the rescue has a “return” policy, for lack of a better word, that assures the pet’s safety. All they had to do was bring him back – it would have been jerky, sure, but it was what they agreed to. Obviously whoever they gave the dog to didn’t properly care for him and let him run off. Poor thing, I hope he gets some good care and finds a happy home.
Just looking at this little dog makes me cry. I love my two cats (one of them is an old gentleman that might not have many years or months left) and I would never give them away. Whatever happens, I made the decision to take them in with me and they will stay until the end. F*ck everyone who gives a pet away. They love you, they trust you, they depend on you. So f*ck you.
That’s far too sweeping. An unexpected health problem or disability may mean it’s not feasible to care for an animal. Elderly people who are becoming senile may not be able to. Severe depression may make it impossible. The responsible thing there is to find the animal a new home, not to keep it when you aren’t able to cope.
I get what you are saying, but FFS. I know I made generalizing statement, but I thought it was clear that in this context it was more related to people who can afford an animal, are not disabled or depressed or anything.

This really knocks them off my “likeable” list and pisses me off. I’ve never understood the attitude that some lives are “just animals.” In my family, adopting a pet is similar to adopting a child; and you wouldn’t just give up your adopted child, would you? (Well, some asshats do.)
My daughter nearly hit a baby doodle 2 weeks ago that ran out in front of her car where she was house sitting. When she got out and got him she saw that he was raw with wounds and emaciated. She walked up and down the street and finally found a woman who claimed she’d never seen him before, while the daughter’s little girl came to the door and cried and cried, saying that was her puppy and she’d been looking for him. The lady slammed the door in my daughter’s face. The next-door neighbor to that women affirmed that yes, it was indeed that woman’s dog.
My daughter took him to the vet where he got rabies vac, wormed and antibiotics for his wounds. The receptionist at the vet recognized him right away and knew exactly which street he came from and who his owner was. It was that nasty horrid woman. I wish there was some registry of Sh!tty pet owners and that they could also be made to pay fines for neglect. In the end, a friend knew a loving couple who lived on a farm and had a doodle but was looking for another one to keep him company, so it worked out. But the shelters are just overflowing with beautiful unwanted dogs and cats. I wish I had the means to adopt them all.

I have a five year old dog and a one year old baby(human, lol). Never once did I pay attention to all the people that said id have to pick my baby or my dog. Our princess is a little spoiled but she’s the best dog ever. She loves this baby like its her own! We were very limiting of baby doggie access at first but as baby became less fragile, more access was granted. They are absolute best friends. It’s the greatest thing to see. I can’t imagine our home with our baby or our doggie!!! People are amazed because our dog is of ‘a vicious breed.’ *rolls eyes*, but is so amazing and gentle with kids and babies.
I’ve gotten into so many fights with my parents about me getting rid of my cat because I’m pregnant. She’s fifteen and a bitch to strangers, no one that I trust would ever take her and she’s family.

My in-laws had a little dog that DID shit all over the house (for whatever reason). When we had babies and obviously didn’t want them to get in that on visits they kept him out of living room. And they are not rich with a huge house. I am sure Chris and Anna had enough house to separate cat and baby if needed.

This is so weird. One of them should comment on this and give explanation. They will still be asked about it in interviews. So they should just be done with it.
Like who they gave dog to. Maybe dog escaped from new owner and got lost. It’s technically not their fault if they gave it to friend and then dog got lost. Dogs do get lost all the time. Maybe they forgot or didn’t payed attention to “small letters” that say you can not give dog to someone.

It’s not small letter. Animal rescues and shelters have always made it VERY clear to return the dog rather than re-home it yourself. They put time and effort into finding good homes for animals and don’t want even well-meaning people to give pets away without being thoroughly checked out.
That is bad behavior. Hope their son learns to care for pets from someone who actually cares for animals.

From my childhood I was instructed that good works is integral to my faith (Ephesians 2:10). I’m not a Biblical scholar. My mother and uncle demonstrated this everyday, as well as other people of many faiths. It goes hand in hand with – actions speak louder than words. Pratt — if you’re going to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk. 1 Corinthians 13 Love is patient and KIND. Their actions towards animals show that he is just a clang cymbal.
There really is no excuse for this. If they didn’t want the elderly cat or were concerned with Anna’s health, they could have taken her to a shelter, found a good home, or put the cat in its own area. If they no longer wanted the dog, they could have called the shelter. If the dog ran away or got lost, they could have called the shelter and then the shelter could have been aware of the situation. That;s all they had to do: make a phone call.
Well, they’ve really pissed off the animal lovers now, so some well-deserved karma is coming their way.
Veterinarian here — unless the cat is actively shedding toxoplasmosis eggs (which is typically only a 1-3 week period), the likelihood of transmitting to people is basically zero. So re: her old cat -who is kept strictly indoors, didn’t interact with feral outdoor cats, didn’t eat raw meat and had no introductions with new animals – saying that she was worried about toxo is basically unfounded. I suspect her cat had urinary or fecal incontinence due to severe illness and needed medical treatment, not to be dumped somewhere else. Shame on these two. I can understand needing to rehome a pet if they attack another pet in the house and there are safety dynamics at stake, but convenience rehoming (pet is sick, our new place doesn’t allow pets etc) is so depressing. Poor old kitty and poor little chihuahua.

I’m not wild about human babies but I do understand that they are helpless and entirely dependent upon the adults in their lives to care for them. Pets are the same way. What, are they just gonna order in if they get hungry or thirsty? Are they gonna call a cab to take them to the vet when they’re sick? Like animals or don’t like them, but if you’re gonna have one then understand you have the moral obligation to care for it. If you dpnt, that makes you a piece of shit. Period.

I grew up in the country, and people dumped dogs out near our house all the time. It was heartbreaking. I adopted a dog a few years ago that had been in a puppy mill and had been abused. Before I brought him home, someone else had taken him home, kept him two days, and brought him back because he wasn’t “fun enough”. Are you kidding me?! I happily took him on, knowing he needed some special care. I couldn’t ask for a more amazing pooch. I really can’t understand how some people can treat animals so badly.
Long-time Celebitchy reader and massive animal enthusiast here (I have two senior feline companions that chose me after Hurricane Katrina. I love this intelligent and well-spoken group of ladies (and gents). I felt the need to post for the first time ever, in years, because this is dispicable. There’s is a special hatred in my heart for people that “re-home” senior pets. After dating a shelter veterinarian, I learned quickly that these animals (really, all shelter animals) experience TREMENDOUS stress when they are put up for adoption. Often, they get ill because of it. Their age makes them pretty much unadoptable. It’s so fucking sad. For people of their status to do at is unthinkable. Also, as multiple people have stated, if your cat suddenly starts eliminating inappropriately, there is a REASON (it’s not just because it’s old) and it needs to be investigated. These asshats probably didn’t bother to keep the cat’s litter box clean, feed it high quality food, offer plenty of water (cats are finicky drinkers) and bring it for regular health visits. It is never acceptable to abandon an animal, ever. Full stop. As for that precious dog, I hope that fee and that post on TMZ mark the start of the bad publicity and bad luck they receive for being inhumane assholes. Caring for a pet is a permanent decision- it lasts the life of the animal. They are disgusting.

Ugh… how heartbreaking. Poor puppy. And I just can’t get over that effing comment he made about his cat. I love my sweet kitty & it blows my mind (though I guess it shouldn’t) that people an be so callous.
There are no words to adequately describe how furious this makes me. FURIOUS. 😡 I’ve adopted special needs and rescued pets so animals mean the world to me.
I’ve worked in rescue for almost 10 years. They are both officially on my crap list.
I run an animal rescue. Pratt & Faris will not get the dog back; Kinder will take custody of the dog and, when it’s fully recovered from its ordeal, they will adopt it to another family. Pratt & Faris has no legal right to the dog. It is likely that, despite being celebrities, they will not be placed on the do not adopt lists at any reputable shelter/rescue as repeat offenders. The only impetus for any shelter/rescue to adopt to them would be to help get some publicity for them but that would be quite the double-edged sword as this is now public knowledge and adopting to this family would undermine the credibility of a rescue group.
How a person treats their pets says a lot about them.

A (mostly former) friend of mine dumped her family dog on another friend because they were moving to Florida. No other reason. They were moving and the dog suddenly became a burden. She showed up at my friend’s door out of the blue with the dog while her husband waited in the packed car with their two crying children. Luckily my friend who took the dog already adored him and was happy to take him in.
It seemed so cruel of her to abandon a family member at the time. Her poor kids were obviously devastated. Now I’m just grateful she bothered to find someone responsible to take him. He could’ve ended up on the street. At any rate, I still can’t look at her the same way.

I agree with Chris regarding the cat and toxoplasmosis. Why would any one want to risk exposing their unborn child to toxoplasmosis? A fetus contracting toxoplasmosis is a far worse tragedy than giving a cat away to a different owner.

I adopted a cat many years ago from a rescue that had the same policy as Kinder. I had him for three years. When a friend dropped off an elderly dog and said, “it would only be staying for week” because her landlord didn’t allow pets and she had to “hide” him somewhere…well, you know how that went. She never came back for the dog, so I kept him.
Unfortunately, my cat who was about 4 years old at the time did not adjust well to a dog in the house. He started pooping outside the box. I added litter boxes, contained him to one room (whenever he was out, he’d poop on the floor and I rented). My vet even put him on anxiety meds and Prozax to try and help. NOTHING worked. I tried for a year and spent thousands, even having a behaviourlist come in. In the end, it was rehome the elderly dog who already been abandoned, or take my cat back to the rescue. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, but I did it. However, it was like Sophie’s choice.
However, giving away an elderly cat on Twitter? Those two are as*holes. I suffer from doubts to this day if I could have done something different and these two yahoo’s havent released a statement?
