Yesterday was Taylor Swift’s 27th birthday. Every year of Taylor’s life feels like a dog’s year, meaning that she manages to fit seven years of drama and living and pettiness into one year. It’s a remarkable thing. Speaking of drama and pettiness, Taylor had a brief but memorable “thing” with John Mayer many years ago. Some believe that Mayer was her first REAL boyfriend, as in he was the first guy who wasn’t just with her as part of some PR set-up. They happened, undercover, for a few months and then he reportedly dumped her. She wrote “Dear John” about him, allegedly, and perhaps his involvement with Katy Perry is one of the reasons why Katy and Tay-Tay have such bad blood. So how did John celebrate his ex’s 27th birthday?
They dated briefly from November 2009 to February 2010, with their acrimonious split inspiring her hit-song, Dear John. And it seems that the wounds have still not healed, as John Mayer took a veiled dig at his ex girlfriend Taylor Swift on Tuesday, her birthday. As she turned 27 on December 13, the Love On The Weekend singer, 39, took a swipe at her by labelling her day of birth ‘the lamest day of the year’ on Twitter.
In a tweet that he appears to have deleted a short while later, the singer wrote: ‘Tuesday, December 13 may be the lamest day of the year, conceptually.’
John’s apparent dig at his ex-girlfriend could be viewed as quite the personal attack, as Taylor has credited her day of birth with being her own lucky number. In 2009 she explained the importance of the number in her life, saying: ‘The significance of the number 13 on my hand… I paint this on my hand before every show because 13 is my lucky number; for a lot of reasons.’
I went looking for the tweet and it does seem like John deleted it, but someone thoughtfully screencapped it (below). This is one of the reasons why John and Taylor were actually a good match: they’re both pretty lame and petty. She also had a similar bond with Calvin Harris, although Calvin tried to re-brand himself as someone not-petty and rather magnanimous (it did not stick). Obviously, it’s cold as hell to publicly mock someone on their birthday, but the absolute “lamest” thing is perhaps to shade someone’s actual birth day. I mean, oooooh, you delivered such a burn on a… day of the week.
Uh. John Mayer just tweeted and deleted this. But thank God for screenshots 😁 #HappyBirthdayTaylorSwift pic.twitter.com/VPUqCX8eJ1

Well she has thrown Shade at him in the past.. And really they are all on the same level.
I’m no Taylor fan but John has a history of being a cad about breakups. Didn’t he diss Jen A. to the press as well, unsolicited?
Well then they deserve each other, now don’t they?
He blabbed about more than one ex, yet he manages to date them again in some cases.
Taylor might be drama filled but you are 39 damn years old, John. Grow up FFS.
Yes, and Taylor is 27 and still petty. I’m more mad that the shade was so stupid. I need someone to give me a shade with substance!
Meh, John looks like an idiot here.
“the shade was so stupid”
Yes, this! It was a really weak attempt.
She would have been 20/21 at the time they were dating, though. I was definitely still deep in petty at that point in a way I would like to think I am no longer capable of.
Unfortunately the progress of human years doesn’t always come with emotional maturity for some.
However in this case, with what we know about Tay’s team steamrolling anyone who doesn’t fit into her idea of “good press” , it’s no wonder so many *adults* she dates are prone to extreme pettiness after they break up.
Both losers here, as they dated for a mere 3
Months. Really y’all???
Also…just me or has her face been tweaked more than I thought? Or is it just age?
LD, I said the same thing about her face below. You can really tell how much work she’s had done looking back at the old olds. It was subtle and well-done enough that it didn’t cause a huge stir in the moment, but over time you can really tell.
Yup, she’s been walking around looking like she’s part seal or something she’s had so much filler put in her face. It makes your face look like a shiny plump surface that doesn’t look natural. Remember when she got really long clip-in bangs so no one would notice months later when she emerged with new eyelids?
Really and truly…39 freaking years old…grow up. My Lord, she was young, young, young when she wrote that song, get the heck over it. If he wasn’t known for being such a man wh&re it might not have had to come to this!
Taylor looks so young in that photo of them together.
Seems like someone can’t get over his “hit piece” song and still holds a grudge over his petty ex. He must be so jealous of all the success his exes have! Jessica Simpson has a billion dollar “fashion” empire, Jennifer Aniston is an A-lister with a millionaire fee for work on lame comedies and advertises just about every product, Katy Perry is very successful on her own and well T swizzle is about the biggest pop star there is right now whose name isn’t Beyoncé. Suck on that, John!
Lmao. Sorry, I think this is funny. She absolutely crucified him, naming names, over a 3 month relationship. As always, painting herself as the poor little victim in a white dress while he was the terrible big bad man wearing black. I think the shade is fair game. Petty as hell, of course, but fair.
I think he may have taken her virginity. Maybe if she didn’t subscribe to the belief that losing one’s virginity is giving away “everything you have” she might have been able to be mature about it. I know it’s very different for different people, but personally my soul was not crushed over having sex for the first time.
I agree, petty but fair. Going by what both Andy Cohen and Kathy Griffin have said about Taylor, she loves to hold a grudge and make things awkward at social events. Thats probably why he still even remembers her name. He speaks well of all his other exes (too well in Jessica Simpsons case).
Yeah, if she was 20 though and he was her first, I can see how a 3-month relationship could be very intense. I still have some buried strong feelings about a couple of guys I dated at 19 and 20, and that was nearly 20 years ago 🙂
True enough, those feelings do stick around. I have some of them too. The difference between you and Taylor though is that you didn’t bash the people you had such lovin’ feelings for on your very public platform.
She threw a ton of shade, and she would have deserved backlash in a timely manner.
WHY is she still taking up that much of his head space that he feels the need to comment almost 7 years later? That’s SO weird. Like you said – it was a couple months of a relationship.
I know everyone like to rip on her for her shade throwing – and sometimes it’s 100% called for. But sometimes it turns into rewarding people for keeping it going. If he had said this years ago, I’d have agreed. But it’s been more than 7 years since the relationship started, just under 7 since it ended. She hasn’t publicly said a word about him in years in interviews/tweets/songs.
At some point it becomes hypocritical. We can’t chastise her for throwing shade while simultaneously praising those who go in on her YEARS after the fact and out of the blue.
I wasn’t necessarily trying to praise him for throwing shade. I said it was fair, but he’s still absurd. Even being absurd, though, it still makes me laugh. I think Taylor Swift is a ridiculous human being, always have, and it makes me chuckle any time she gets called out on her ridiculousness.
She’s not just throwing shade every once in a while, this is literally who she is. She has built her entire career on calculated yet low-key mean-girl-ness. Am I just as petty for enjoying it when she gets taken down a peg or two? Probably. But I might as well go to hell laughing.
My thoughts exactly. People, move on. Throw shade at yout recent ex if you can’t keep it quiet. Throw shade for years at each other if you’re having some weird ongoing feud. But after this many years of nothing? Dude! Don’t be Kanye. Be Elsa. Let it go.
(Taylor should let go a lot of stuff too.)
Yes! I cringe thinking back on it now (first time). But your idea seems very plausible. I also recall reading several blind items about her having an abortion after John mayer with a lot of hush ups….
“Maybe if she didn’t subscribe to the belief that losing one’s virginity is giving away “everything you have” she might have been able to be mature about it.”
Praise to the woman who wrote this sentence.
I put the onus on feeling like losing your virginity is such a big to the societal dialogue around a person as much as the person, though, and even more so when a woman is young. I grew up with a mom who always shamed sex, especially multiple partners (not at once!). That’s challenging to move past. I remember about 5 years after I got married her telling me sex was fun and I was floored. I never ever had that impression from her.
I imagine Taylor was likely told again and again you wait for a special someone, you don’t throw everything away for a man, etc.
Mayer also has a track record of not being so nice himself, and has always seemed like he needed to diminish his much more successful girlfriends/exes. This is one that I’ve always given Taylor a pass on, because she really was young and he should have known better.
Yes John because sinking to her level really makes you a winner here. People need to stop giving her petty @ss reasons to play the victim. She’ll probably get an entire poorly written album out of this.
…well it’s my birthday too and I had a bloody good time, thankewverymuch, John. 🖕🏻
OHHHH happy belated birthday!!!
Happy Birthday, Londerland.
To be fair, he said ‘conceptually’ so wouldn’t that mean people CONCEIVED not born on Dec. 13th are lame?
Thank you both! Also, I don’t think he’s really that smart. Or rather, his David Duke penis isn’t, since that’s what he thinks with…
Heeeeey, birthday twin! Happy belated birthday, Londerland, Tay Tay and all the rest of us 12/13s. xo
Yay! Bday twin! John can go shush, December 13 is the bomb!
He has a slappable face.
Yes. I’ll not forget how he said he loved his diverse fans but his dick is David duke and he only has sexual feelings for white blondes.
He’s garbage. Yuck.
How original.
You’re almost 40 years old dear John
Sigh…. I love his music so much, but he is a douche
Is he still relevant?
Are we commenting about him? Survey says….yes!
Almost 40 and acting like a teenager on twitter to an ex. Grow up, John
Need some attention, John?
This. I guess that gig with Dead & Company isn’t as high-profile as he would like.
Taylor is the worst. Does she actually have tons of fans? She makes me cringe. Mayer makes me cringe too though…. blah.
I’m still convinced that I Knew You Were Trouble is about John Mayer. I know they say it’s Harry Styles but the lyrics have always screamed “this is about John!” to me.
yes, I have always thought that song was about John too, the song seems to suggest that the man in question had a history of being a douchebag to women and given John’s relationships with Jen A and Jessica Simpson I think it fits. On the other hand, I don’t know much about Harry Styles, so he could have history that fits too, I don’t know.
John, who???
Ha, someone is mad nobody cares about him anymore.
I’m sorry but I find it hilarious how mad Taylor makes these people. Like years later and they’re still being petty and throwing shade. Even after she’s stopped talking about them. Whether it’s John or Katy or Calvin. Always throwing shade.
Calvin unfollowed Zayn on Instagram because Zayn worked with Taylor.
John tweeting out this nonsense. It’s like none of them want to grow up. I know Taylor is petty but yikes do they stoop to her level and even worse.
PS since we are all about gossip…a little bird told me that Taylor was having a low key birthday dinner at Jean Georges with Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Jake G. The gossip and drama never ends, does it?
@Sam, did you see a tweet or how did you find out?
Cause I saw a tweet (about the dinner with Blake, Ryan and Jake G), but what made me doubt is that the person who tweeted has only 4 or 5 tweets… so.maybe she is a troll?
But if she is not… I’m ready for the drama and the meltdowns.
I saw a tweet too lol The person was from Connecticut. Seemed kinda random to just tweet it out because the person’s other tweets are pretty normal even though they have just 10 followers.
But regardless I want it to be soooo true soooo bad because THAT would truly deliver. Like 2016 has been the absolute worse but can the drama queen that is Taylor Swift please deliver with this one. PLEASE.
Either way we will find out because when she decides she wants to lay low she always her sources drop what she’s been up to anyways.
Taylor makes these people mad for good reason.
She’s not some Cinderella story who started down and out, and then rose to the top through nothing but hard work and a good heart.
Her father bought her a record company and moved their entire family to Nashville to further her career, and then she rose to fame by publicly talking sh!t about the people who crossed her path on the way to the top and making money doing it.
@Shambles…I’m sorry but yea her father got her foot in the door but he wasn’t the one who got her to where she is now.
I’m tired of folks discrediting women who are extremely successful. So she wrote a song about them and made money off it? Isn’t that what every artist does? John Mayer did it with Jennifer Aniston. The only difference is that Taylor writes her song, makes her money and then shuts up about them.
Whereas they keep talking. Sorry that doesn’t justify being petty 24/7.
@Shambles. Have to agree. She’s worked hard to be where she is but this idea that she’s a total underdog who fought tooth and nail to be at the level of success she’s at is not true. The truth is somewhere in the middle; she worked hard but also had help from her wealthy parents, but the middle doesn’t market well.
And she’s thrown a lot of people under the bus. She has the right to write her songs however she pleases but it’s foolish to think all that pettiness will not come back to haunt you.
Nah, this is not about discrediting successful women.
Her parents bought her an Abercrombie and Fitch add when she was 14. She started off from an incredible place of privilege. Plus the fact that she has very little actual singing talent (the auto tune is hard to ignore), and the songs that she writes are infantile. She’s not creating some meaningful artwork.
Meanwhile, there are people with incredible talent who DO create meaningful art with their music, but don’t have parents who can buy their way into the music industry. People who don’t get famous by writing thinly veiled gossip songs bashing their ex’s, but actually take the time to write songs with depth. But they don’t get the ridiculous amount of accolades this woman has gotten for her shallow body of work, because money talks and America loves a Snow White Princess.
This isn’t about discrediting a successful woman. This is about calling someone out on their bullsh*t, and taking a look at the ugly truths on which that success was built. Being being a woman does not shield a person from that. Part of feminism that Taylor Swift doesn’t seem to grasp is that the soft, fragile, exempt from criticism narrative is also harmful to women.
I’m with Shambles!
I don’t think anyone is discrediting Taylor because she successful. Clearly, she is a gifted musician and songwriter. Very gifted. Her backstory, however, has been diligently concocted to perpetuate a certain narrative which has accelerated her assent to icon status. Not saying that her success is not deserved, but she came from a very wealthy family that could afford to put her goals and ambitions first. She a textbook example of a the “most special snowflake”.
I worked for someone during college who became famous in her industry as a celebrity chef. Her backstory story was also concocted. It was a well-known fact to the natives of the town in which she resided and claimed as her own. She got a television show and a movie role, and those of us who worked closely with her and her family got to see the star rise. Ultimately, that was one of the things that lead up to a very public fall from grace. It was fascinating to observe how fame works. Tangled web and all that.
Aces, I am intrigued! Please share more! Paula Dean?
Sarah- you got it!
The lawsuit that was brought against her was completely legitimate. I worked for her for three years in the restaurant in Savannah when it first opened (technically restaurant #2) The woman who filed the lawsuit worked as a server during the time that I was there and was promoted to a manager after I left. I bartended at her wedding (which they made into a television special) her oldest son’s wedding. They did not compensate any of us (bartenders or severs) and even if we clocked in, they did not honor the hours on our paychecks. I also purposely did not sign a release to appear on camera, but I’m still in several frames, which sucked because I’ve had lifelong ambitions to be a “blurry head” on television. All of us bartenders worked from one in the afternoon to five in the morning. That obviously changed the way we felt about the boss. I also worked several special events that Paula held and found out through the new catering manager that her predecessor, who had been with her for years, had been forced out because Paula’s husband (fiancée at the time) had been sexually harassing her. We avoided him like the plague because he creeped us out majorly. I could go on and on. Ultimately, it was a very valuable experience. Working in a restaurant gave me more real life experience than college did!
@Sarah,
I had a friend that worked on her cooking show. He did not even get paid money. He got pots and pans!
A couple of years ago I worked at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and walked past her, she went to ask me a question and knocked down a whole row of candles. It was awesome!
Sam, I agree with everything you said (about the tweet, and about people trying to discredit Taylor all the time) –
And… I’m ready for the drama too. If this is true, let’s share the popcorn when it’s made public
Edit: False alarm. Definitely a troll
http://haleenazman86.tumblr.com/post/154463693784/m0saicheart-everylessonformsanew-scar
Yup you’re right. Darn it!
Although I should have known better. Then again I was hoping Jake had the case of the Tiddles.
Honestly, I find it odd too.
I suspect it has to do with her level of fame and success. Nobody wants to be the one whose ex is on the up and up.
Also, these old pictures really highlight how much work she had done to her face.
Luckily this comment was further below and I got to read all of your other amazing comments in the scrolling. I was actually shocked to see how different she really does look!!
He wrote a “hit” piece on Jennifer Aniston, so he’s not quite “above it all.” He really should just let it be at this point.
Taylor made buttload of money over shading John for a 4 month relationship and still holds grudge
Its okay
And they are celebs they are always doing dramatic stupid stuff and being quite immature
So no one cares
He is a grown, 39-year-old man. The relationship ended many years ago. This is really quite pathetic.
39, maybe. But grown? Not so much.
What a mean little prick!
There’s basically no excuse whatsoever for petty bullsht when you’re 39. 27 is pushing it but 39? Hell no. Taylor Swift exhausts me.
John Meyer is pathetic.
Don’t mess with someone’s birthday!
Petty and pathetic.
It’s someone’s birthday, anniversary, etc.
Immature and passive aggressive to just slam the day as lame, because he’s on the doorstep of forty and known as Katy’s occasional BF.
John Mayer is pathetic
And
Taylor Swift is pathetic
They deserve each other.
It seems like everyone who knew her on a personal basis, dislike her now. She was too immature and young to date a man with a rep like John Mayer. I guess her way of paying him back was Dear John for a relationship that certainly wasn’t meant to be.
Let me get this straight: A man in his 30s dates a 19-year-old and he’s still complaining about it seven years later? He’s a turd. I don’t care what you say about her, she was a kid.
This!!! I’m not a TSwift fan but fgs she was 19, and he was in his 30s , that right there says all you need to know about him. I’m sorry but any grown man/women dating teenagers is just skeevy to me, and she reacted in an immature way to that relationship, well sure she did cos she was a teenager.
Yes!
My daughter is almost 19, and i would be sick with worry if she dated John Mayer.
The emotional fallout and germ exposure could be deadly. John has disrespected Many women, and the hatred towards Tay must be rooted in jealousy.
Totally! What a wanker!
True, but we already knew he was a huge dbag.
They both are petty, however I’m not going to crucify Taylor for a song she wrote years ago.
How many other artist write songs bout there past relationships?
T does it a lot, but so what? So do many other artists.
I’m sure I’ll get get dogpiled because she is hated around these parts, but whatever.
T. Swift may be a lot of things, but I honestly don’t think she is a bad person. Unlike John Mayor who has actually said racist things and been a jerk in the past.
She keeps doing it though – bet you there will be a Calvin tell all on her next album.
She may not be a bad person but she appears to be a classic narcissist.
“T. Swift may be a lot of things, but I honestly don’t think she is a bad person. ”
Except for the fact that she’s a proven liar, a backstabber and uses “female empowerment” to trash her ex’s and make money out of it. If she were a guy, we would all hate her as much as we do with John Mayer and other “kiss and tellers”. When she goes down, there will be no friends to rescue her.
Still super childish of Mayer to have done this. Very ‘you are rubber and I am glue’. Call up Kim K to teach you lessons about exposing a snake in the grass John.
i don’t remember ANY of the birthdays of guys I dated, much less those I dated for less than three months. Sounds like an unintentional compliment that she is still very much in his mind if you ask me.
Ya, but I’m assuming none of your exes are super famous people whose bday can be found in a 4 second Google search or in People magazine.
Still, that suggests he took the time to look…
Yes agreed scarlet vixen. I am not super famous but isn’t everyone on social media now? I ignore people I don’t care about/don’t think about.
Taylor 1, John 0. Lol.
They’re both annoying and petty…surprised they haven’t gotten back together.
Heaven knows Taylor has her faults, but it’s kind of lame that John even remembers what her birthday is. I certainly can’t recall what day my exes of a few months were born on, nor do I care.
Lame John Mayer. Not cool bruh. Notwithstanding that we are talking about TSwift but I have “never ever” been attracted to men that are high drama. I don’t want a guy who is dramatic, takes longer to get ready, or knows the the calorie count of every food. I reserve those rights for myself thanks.
December 13 is a special day to me, and I don’t understand why he chose to slam the day. My father used his day or two off from the army to elope with my mom more than 50 years ago. I took the day off to celebrate their collaboration.
On behalf of all who find December 13 special, Lame Little John can kick rocks.
I still listen to his Continuum album.
John Mayer is scum. I still remember the Playboy interview where he insulted both Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson (he was especially cruel about Jessica)
He and Taylor were involved for a few months and she wrote a song about him and he and Katy Perry sang a song about her. Isn’t that enough?
The pettiness of it all is exhausting.
I’m shocked that so much hate is directed at him. She’s famous for naming and shaming every single ex and person she had a falling out with, and she’s 27. I don’t think maturity comes with a certain age. It’s all about being a decent human being – which neither of them are. If I had to side with anyone, it would be with John. Don’t dish it if you can’t take it.
Agreed!
I think John Mayer exactly what he was doing when tweeted and deleted. He knew he was throwing shade! I daresay he was assisted by a little recreational herb or alcoholic libations, but I think this is one of the reasons that we enjoy a little pettiness from these people. (***does not apply to president elects, obviously. That is terrifying) There have been countless times that I have had to pull my foot from my mouth, but I try not to do it on repeat if I have inadvertently hurt someone’s feelings. Mayer may not be the classiest guy, but Taylor is also pretty good at immaturity. I got a chortle out of this, which is what I occasionally need from my gossip!
30 something with a HORRIBLE reputation dates a 19 year old and then still complains about it years later? Yeah, there’s a reason why he’s getting a hard time.
Oh honestly! Age isn’t that big a deal in Famouspersonland. Taylor dated the Kennedy kid when she was 22. She had to sign him out on weekends! But they were all of legal age. Consenting adults. Definitely not the most mature, but technically consenting adults. She’s still getting residuals “years later”.
Taylor has never been the most mature individual, and she was a pretty immature 19. And John Mayer and his “David Duke d$&k” is an infamous sleaze. So yeah, he should have known better and he’ll ALWAYS get shade from me.
Wait..what? I’m honestly confused. He should have somehow guessed that Taylor Swift was an “immature 19” as opposed to a mature 19? I’m not being argumentative, but I don’t understand your logic. It is my guess that he discovered that they were not well-suited for coupling-up at that time. Which is why he ended it. Which lead to hurt feelings. Most of the time, when a romantic relationship ends, there are going to be hurt feelings. And those involved in the relationship have a right to express those feelings in the manner in which they see fit. Taylor did that in song. As a result, the public got a pretty intimate take on Taylor’s side. John, as an actual participant in the relationship, is allowed to have a rebuttal. I don’t think it is necessarily up the the public to decide how long he has to respond, especially when the song is still making money for the other party. His methods of response are very petty, but he has to live with those choices. Which means he will have to sleep at night knowing that he has shade coming his way.
Sorry but no one held a gun to her head and forced her to date a known sleaze bag. I’ve done stupid shit at 19 too, but I have a bit more decorum than to go announce to the world who took my virginity. She has every right to do so, but he has every right to clap back. Then, or now.
Taylor Swift hasn’t mentioned him in years, so it’s not like he’s “clapping back” at anything in particular. And if you recall, he did do his sad clap back years ago in song form. It just turns out no one cared.
@Aces: Mayer has a rep for being kind of predatory and liking women who he can convince that he’s their artistic and intellectual superior. And Taylor Swift was a 19 year old famous for singing songs about high school.
And I dont get why she gets so much hate for writing songs about her exes, when that is such a common thing for songwriters to do. Like, you never hear anyone bitching out Adele for writing 3 albums based on relationships.
Sure, Taylor has used names in her songs in the past but nothing recently.
Do you know the names of any of Adele’s ex’s without having to Google them? Has she paraded any of them in front of the paparazzi and then dropped hints in her liner notes or in interviews that makes it clear who each song is about?
A lot of singer/songwriters might have a song or two over the years that gets specific about who a song is about, but very few do it as much as Taylor has done. I do hope she has grown out of it – it’s about time.
@jetlagged :
A) Adele hasnt been on the scene as long as Taylor.
B) Adele has also been in a longtime relationship with Simon. Its not really that comparable. Not too mention that Simon isnt even a high profile celebrity. So again, there isnt going to be as much media interest as Taylor is going to get for dating someone like Jake Gyllenhaal or Harry Styles.
And the media may speculate about who the songs are about, but she hasnt confirmed them. (Maybe one or two in the early days), definitely nothing recent.
Dear John still needs to be part of Taylor narrative 😀 😀
I blame Taylor for having bad taste in men. All her exs have a string of failed relationships. Only one with a girlfriend is Joe J. Taylor L. Jake G. Harry S. and Calvin H. none have even been able to keep any girlfriends and are currently single. Tom H. 35 single, never married and John 39 single, never married. She just like most women, who want to tame a wild/hot boy but fails.
Tuesday 13 is an unlucky day were I live LOL I thought that was what he meant but now I know better 🙂
This was so long ago that he really just looks stupid.
His bitchy song in retaliation to Taylor was Paper Doll here are the lyrics.
Paper doll, come try it on
Step out of that black chiffon
Here’s a dress of gold and blue
Sure was fun being good to you
This one we made just for Fall
And Winter runs a bit too small
This mint green is new for Spring
My love didn’t cost a thing
You’re like twenty-two girls in one
And none of them know what they’re runnin’ from
Was it just too far to fall?
For a little paper doll
Fold a scarf, Moroccan red
And tie your hair behind your head
Strap into some heels that hurt
You should’ve kept my undershirt
You’re like twenty-two girls in one
And none of them know what they’re runnin’ from
Was it just too far to fall?
For a little paper doll
Cut the cord and pull some strings
And make yourself some angel wings
And if those angel wings don’t fly
Someone’s gonna paint you another sky
‘Cause you’re like twenty-two girls in one
And none of them know what they’re runnin’ from
Was it just too far to fall?

Which was a more solid and cohesive burn than his recent attempt. He should have just tweeted these lyrics, deleted them and called it a day.
That’s actually not such a horrible song compared to:
Dear John, I see it all now that you’re gone.
Don’t you think I was too young
To be messed with?
The girl in the dress
Cried the whole way home, I should’ve known.
Well maybe it’s me
And my blind optimism to blame
Or maybe it’s you and your sick need
To give love then take it away
You are an expert at “Sorry”
And keeping lines blurry
Never impressed by me acing your tests
All the girls that you’ve run dry have tired lifeless eyes
Cause you’ve burned them out
Maybe he meant it’s not Friday the 13th, it’s Tuesday the 13th, and therefore laughable. Plus it’s in December, so the Christmas-y vibe kills off any remaining spooky vibe from the number 13.
But what I really mean is I doubt John remembers when Taylor’s birthday is or ever thinks about her long enough to bother throwing shade.
Thanks – I was thinking the same and you’re the only other person who said something like this. I think the fact that he said “conceptually” means he was trying to make a jokey observation about it being such a “nothing” date, not even thinking about it being Taylor’s birthday. Lots of people joke about how Tuesday is such a “nothing” day and I think John was just expanding that to it also being the 13th and December. I am not a fan of either one of them so I have no stake in this, but that’s how I read it …
Guys generally have trouble remembering anyone’s birthday and I doubt John remembers the birthday of someone he dated years ago. I think he remembers HER of course, and may have some lingering resentments or feelings toward her, but I don’t think that would manifest by him making a weird vague comment about her birthday being “lame”… doesn’t seem plausible to me.
Those photo’s just show how much work she’s had done to her face – its like a different person.
Oh, f*ck off, John. You were way too old for her and went for it anyway. She might be the queen of the revenge song, but that rumor still grosses me out to this day.
The douche factor is so strong with him. Adding “conceptually” at the end of a weak “burn” to try to elevate the sound of the insult. It sounds so contrived its nauseating.
