When I was really little, I loved the color pink, and not any of the fashionable shades of pink either. Like, I loved bubble-gum pink and Pepto-pink shades. My childhood bedroom was even painted Pepto pink. I think that’s why I dislike those shades of pink as an adult, although in my 30s, I have gotten into pale pink and hot pink. I don’t even like to decorate with pink accents though, so Kendall Jenner’s wall (above) is not my jam. Kendall posted the photo of her pink accent wall over the holidays and apparently people went wild for it. So she explained on her app why she painted that wall that one shade of pink:
Kendall Jenner knows: the power of paint is real! Recently, the 21-year-old model shared a photo of her faux-snow-covered Christmas tree in front of a pretty pink wall, and as it turns out, there was more to the color choice than Jenner simply being drawn to its feminine flair.
“While I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the room, I went to dinner with friends and they had just gone to the Human Condition exhibition at a former hospital in L.A.,” Jenner says in a new post on her app. “They were telling me there’s a pink room at the exhibit that had an explanation of the color choice: Baker-Miller Pink is the only color scientifically proven to calm you AND suppress your appetite. I was like, ‘I NEED this color in my house!’”
What her friends likely didn’t reveal is that the color, studied in the 1960s by scientist Alexander Schauss at the American Institute for Biosocial Research in Tacoma, Washington, is also known as “Drunk Tank Pink.” The alternative name, Baker-Miller, is a reference to the two correctional institute directors Schauss asked to use the color in confinement cells to test if it would calm prisoners. Of course, it’s not necessarily a bad color. It’s been reported many times — in the New York Times and InStyle, for example — that changing out the clear or frosted light bulbs in your home for low-wattage pink ones creates the most flattering and romantic ambiance.
Jenner tracked down the rosy shade, and the rest is bright blush history.
Pink walls suppress your appetite? I’ve never heard that. I have heard the “calming” thing before, and I’ve also heard that many jails cells feature pink walls. Of course, I’ve also read/heard that certain shades of blue are very calming for most people, that red walls bring out people’s anger/passion and that yellow walls are controversial. Like, yellow either makes people feel happier and “sunnier,” or they’re a huge irritant. But I’ve never heard of paint colors as a way to diet. What is it about that shade of pink which would make you not hungry??

My childhood bedroom was that pink with gold strips and black accents. I was cool until I turned about 9…but my parents made me keep it till I was like, 15, because I’d been such a brat about wanting everything PINK AND GOLD WITH BLACK.
Yea totally fell into the girls love pink trap, as a kid. Way better than the pink will make me eat less trap, though.
My cousin had 2 walls painted that same color when we were little. She painted over them in 8th grade.
I love that tree, though, where can I get it? It does look very photogenic against that wall.
Paint your wall pick to suppress your appetite..that sounds stupid
Yeah, wouldn’t that be contingent upon you spending a lot of time in the pink room? She does need to leave that room and that house pretty often, I’d assume. So not sure how effective that could possibly be. And it’s troubling that someone already so thin is thinking about appetite suppression. I know she’s a model but that seems unhealthy. How about just eating a satisfying amount of the right foods? Hire a chef, maybe.
That’s what I was thinking too. I mean look at her, she’s so thin. If she’s worried about her weight, why not just eat healthier, I’m sure she can afford it. She doesn’t strike me as the type who’s going to gain a lot of weight easily, she’s a Jenner not a kardashian. Although all the fat kardashian asses aren’t real
Anything for attention. I’m sure there will be many people going out and buying this color because she says it suppresses your appetite. The only ones profitting from this are the paint company/ies that make this color and Jenner if she is being paid to shill it.
Also, is this the new style where you paint over your baseboards in the same colour? Or is this just because the painters they hired can’t do cut lines. They even look like they got some on hardwood.
Those poor baseboards. Look how tall and lovely they are too.
Haha. That’s what I noticed too. Since when is that a good look?
That would cause snacking. Need ALL pink for it to work!
I’m into fitness and health as much as the next person, but can you imagine being so shallow as to paint a wall a certain color just to suppress your appetite? I wish the bubble around this family would pop and they could live a normal ass life.
+10000.
More attention-getting nonsense from this ridiculous family.
We just moved, and one of the bedrooms was formerly a little girls room The walls are pepto pink, the ceiling is lavender, with lime green accents. We’ll be painting very soon. I actually don’t mind the color Kendall chose though, even if I wouldn’t choose it myself.
Sounds like anorexia
I wear pink all October every year and never lose my appetite! Finally got rid of the pink walls this year but always had a healthy appetite. I’ve never heard of this. Silly
My room was purple. I loved it. We all get our turn at being young and she is on the borderline, so her let her have her pretty in pink room. Doubt she needs to suppress her appetite though, probably eats rabbit food….or listens to Pink Floyd. Ha!
I seriously doubt she even knows who Pink Floyd is…
Hungry or not, it’s a beautiful shade of pink.
It is. One of my sisters has a similar color in her bedroom. It’s not in your face pink like pepto, it’s very calming and eloquent……if you can describe a color that way.
Does this really work? Asking for a friend.
I’m not sure I’d trust the results of 1960s-era researchers studying inmates.
Which means it was probably only tested on men, right? Couldn’t a color commonly associated with the feminine affect them differently?
What a way to live your life. Painting your walls to stop you from eating.
I’m hungrier and angrier after looking at that color. I do like yellow though, definitely yellow. I’ve heard red walls makes you eat more and perhaps blue walls have the opposite affect.
I think blue or green are suppose to have a calming effect – one reason school rooms are painted that color. Not sure where I read that information, but vaguely remember reading it.
I read once that having blue dinner plates would make you eat less. The theory was that because very few foods are blue, we don’t associate blue with food. Idk why white or black wouldn’t work in that case, though. It’s probably mostly bunk. Relationships to food are hugely complicated for some people.
ETA. I see several people have already mentioned this. My bad. Should always read the whole thread.
Idiot
Ugh. She irritates me. I used to want to hug her, feed her some soup and tell her it was gonna be ok & that other people don’t get to determine your self-worth. She could take her $$ and #nope right out of all that Kardashian crap. Start a new life somewhere else. Go to school. Rescue cats. Make jam. Lay on the beach & smoke weed. Instead, PMK is making bank on another daughter tricking herself out with fake lips, boobs & ass, thinking her only value is to get recognition or $ by being mostly naked most of the time. SMH.
OMG I love this comment so much…
maybe mama supports and encourages this because she never felt beautiful herself?
or she always wanted to make money for being considered ‘attractive’ but it never panned out?
I can’t imagine that this family’s behavior doesn’t stem at least partly from Kris’ relationship with herself, but IDK.
I always remember hearing reds make you hungry and blues suppress appetite. I don’t know where though.
Read the book Drunk Tank Pink, fascinating! Worth the read.
If I owned a house when I was 21 and heard this I probably would have done the same thing. And I wasn’t even a model. Pretty colour either way
I can’t stand pink and (I love him so) I’m quietly battling painted walls in my home with my husband. He loves bright, bold color and I like white with framed art.
We’ve compromised well so far: I get white everywhere he hasn’t painted yet.
He does the physical painting (I seriously would rather go to the dentist than paint), so I said OK to the colors and rooms he wanted since he was the one doing it. Green in the dining room, a navy accent wall in the kitchen (which I like more than I thought I would, the green I would change back to white if he didn’t like it so much) and a charcoal in the office (which I admit, looks nice with the way he decorated in there).
I don’t even like clothing with a hint of pink in them. I also don’t like purple or green very much. I like but I don’t wear it, I’m too paranoid about stains and spills.
Give me orange, yellow or blue any day.
My sister painted our childhood bedroom that color and tried to dictate that everything in the room had to be pink or white. I rebelled by getting a baby blue bedspread. Our appetites were not suppressed
I’ve read a few times in some healthy eating books and fitness magazines that if you eat on blue plates it can help reduce your appetite and have you slow down when eating because blue has a calming effect. I don’t really believe this, but I have read it more then once so maybe the pink is a thing but it makes me think of the candy kingdom in adventure time and my bedroom as a child.
I thought blue was suppose to be an appetite suppressant and red & yellow makes you hungry – which is why most fast food chains are red & yellow.
Good grief that is sad. And ugly.
I don’t know about the appetite part (actually that shade does make me feel a bit sick, like too much cake) but maybe it is calming because its probably the sort of shade you see in utero?
I’ve stared at that wall for 20 minutes and I’m still hungry
I remember when I went to France years ago a lot of the houses had a mustard yellow wall.
Maybe this is a good color for a wedding, that way your guests won’t eat all your food 😂😂
