I always thought Sia was an overrated song writer, to be honest.

    • Adriana says:

Me too. I don’t like her singing either. And I’ve never liked Kay Perry’s songs. Mainstream music hasn’t been good lately. I mean what we have now compared to Michael Jackson, Bowie or Madonna.

      • Brandi says:

Or George Michael! Omg I’m still so heartbroken.

      • milla says:

        Brandi

I listen only to GM since he died. Only. My bf is gonna kill me, but I do not give a darn, he was so talented, his voice is beautiful and he knew how to make a simple words sound powerful. So, so underrated.

Then now, you have this Sia or Kety Perry, they are bad singers, they do not have real songs, which we will play in 30 years… And they are not the only ones: Justin timberlake, Swifty, Rihanna, all disposable. Beyonce has the voice, but darn she should focus on music not media…

EDIT: GMs songs are very powerful now. He was blacklisted cos he sang about the important stuff and we need that now, from Hand to Mouth and Praying For Time, to Shoot The Dog. He was right. And we are effed.

    • Bee says:

I can’t think of one current artist (except Adele) that will stand the test of time, whose songs will be played years from now. People may worship Beyonce but even she will be forgotton by the ages.

    • WTF says:

Really? Chandelier? Diamonds? She actually has a realism that is fantastically refreshing in the pop genre. She’s changed what’s acceptable as ‘pop lyrics’ and her anxieties and realness (stage fright etc), are to be congratulated IMHO. That’s me though….

      • itsnotmeitsthecat says:

Hey guys! In response to Sia critics and liking her to Katy Perry… Just hear me out and listen to this old performance of Sias: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upMuEJotl5w
I know shes become more mainstream “pop” formula-like song writer and singer now but…. I just get so bummed when shes compared to Katy Perry or the likes because I CANT STAND KATY PERRY. lol

  2. Mia4S says:

I just rolled my eyes so hard at that Scarlet article my eyes are stuck. Please call 911.

She really is quite insufferable isn’t she? She just cannot make this stuff sound remotely genuine.

  3. paolanqar says:

I love Sia and I loved her piece on Rolling Stones. All these pop singers would be nothing without her.
This song in’t great but she is a talented songwriter and an even better singer.

    • Adrien says:

She is talented. I remember when she wasn’t famous yet and she was opening act for bigger stars, I always thought she was more talented and entertaining than the headliner.

      • QQ says:

Oh and HELLO Zero 7 Is her voice all up in that and she is fabulous

Not that I was ever into Katy Perry but on the pic caption alone im unsubscribing and not even pressing play, I Like my ears too much and anyways the new Bonobo Cd is 100% Fire so why soil my auditory sex smash sandwich with Nothingburger?

    • Kiki says:

That is why Sia rejected this song… Katy should have rejected this song. I absolutely hate this song.

  4. Adrien says:

Katy’s new song sounds outdated and not even in the nostalgic kind of retro way.
Well hello there, Diego Luna ( in the GFY Maggie Gyllenhaal post). Nice to see you doing indie film things again. Welcome Home.
    That is all.

    • lucy2 says:

I just listened, it does sound outdated. I’ve never cared for her voice either. The whole thing is very generic.

    • Mia4S says:

Whoa, they did bury the lead in that Maggie link! Damn Diego Luna, looking good!!!!

I see Maggie Gyllenhaal has borrowed Diego from Felicity Jones also for the purposes of posing next to in order to make very questionable dresses look better. It works…it really really works. 😉

  5. Layla Beans says:

That Chaffetz townhall is amazing. Check out #ChaffetzTownHall on Twitter. Utah is sooooooo mad.

    • lucy2 says:

      Utah. UTAH!!!! I love it.
The best was the teacher who said in all her decades of experience, within 2 or 3 weeks of a new school year, she knew which kids were going to be a problem…and it’s been 2 or 3 weeks with Trump.

So many of these representatives have had it good for way too long. Most people were so disconnected from politics, especially federal, and I imagine their previous town halls were little more than meet and greets with a supportive audience and maybe a few questions. Then they could go back to DC and do whatever they wanted.
      No more.

      • Layla Beans says:

That teacher was amazing. Gave me goosebumps. I am Canadian, watching all of this from up here. I am starting to unclench *a little* now that I see how engaged people are and they’re DOING things. No more slacktivism. *high five*

    • HappyMom says:

That was the sound of democracy, baby. I was so happy to watch Chaffetz have to stand there and listen to how pissed off his constituents are. And that is a heavily Republican district.

      • ol cranky says:

he’s now claiming it was all paid protesters trying to intimidate him

      • Brickyardute says:

Utahn here who lives in Chaffetz district. Wasn’t able to go but was part of the groups that were organizing our presence and com into with questions and petitions. We are local people who have had it with our reps not listening to us. I’m glad he was put on blast and his comments about us being paid and from out of state are ridiculous. How can he say that without any proof? He should be removed from the ethics committee.

  7. Harryg says:

I love Sia, one of the best voices ever. And Iike this song.

  8. ZGB says:

I don’t know why I can’t bring myself to hate Katy Perry . Maybe because I don’t take her serious? Like she’s Bubblegum pop always.

Anyway, my two favorite songs of hers are Wide Awake(moody with subtex) and the more indie ‘I’m Still Breathing ( it was so dark and fatal, I still can’t believe it was sang by Katy Perry)

  9. Jayna says:

    I really can’t take Katy’s voice. It’s like fingernails on a chalkboard.

  10. zenkitty says:

My hubby and I absolutely adore Sia! She has an amazing voice, and a lot of her lyrics are great (but not all). I remember reading somewhere that it takes her only a few minutes to write a song – the lyrics just flow out of her. That’s pretty damn incredible!

I haven’t listened to this song though, because I can’t stand Katy Perry. As ZGB said above, she’s pure bubblegum pop, so I find it difficult to have any respect for her music.

  11. Louise177 says:

I kind of like Katy’s song but it’s not one of her best. Just because Sia didn’t record it doesn’t mean it’s bad or a reject. A lot of songs have been passed over by other singers and ended up being bit hits.

  12. Adrs says:

The song is meh but the video!!!! Oh my god!! Everything sooo tiny and pretty!! Watch it in mute seriously!

  13. Deedee says:

Some parts of the song are good, but that chorus. Egads. And it seems so discogesive.

  14. Anna nuttall says:

The song was sort of catchy – but it need to get rid of the rap in the middle. The video however was adorable, I’m crazy about hamster so this was perfect for me. I never been a Kathy Perry fan – her live voice is awful.

  15. A. Key says:

Did not expect that video!!! Amazing!!!

  16. Tabatha Hamrick says:

    We love her

  17. Boxy Lady says:

I am interpreting Katy Perry’s song as a commentary on how complacent we Americans have been about the political machinery of our government and about how our duties as citizens demand that we be informed and involved. If that was her intent then I can’t say anything bad about the song.

Probably the best thing about this election has been that political apathy in America seems to be much less than before. More and more people are paying attention and getting involved.

  18. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

    Katy doesn’t look good 🙁
I don’t care what Goop thinks about VD
I sprained my eyes too rolling them over Scarlett’s dramatic statements.

  19. Spiderpig says:

Forget the song, that video is the most goddamn precious thing ever.

  20. Hola says:

    I love the song!

  21. ash says:

but thats the thing…katy’s song do stand the test of time…she was a song writer for a lot of these pop stars…js
