Emperor Bigly just declared war on the far-right ‘Freedom Caucus’

During the Obama presidency, a special breed of Republican was born. That’s what they’d like you to think, that the so-called Freedom Caucus of the GOP was so very different than the regular GOP. The Freedom Caucus was and is referred to as The Suicide Caucus or the Kamikaze Caucus, both of which are more accurate names because these people are unhinged morons who will kill us all if their agenda is ever enacted. Their platform is based on ultra-right Christianity, a deep hatred of the government, ending Obamacare, ending Medicare, ending Medicaid, punishing poor people for being poor, punishing women for being women, and letting business do whatever they want. Also, most of them are pretty racist.

The Kamikaze Caucus is one of the reasons why Trumpcare/Ryancare failed. The caucus couldn’t agree on what to do, but most of these hard-right wingnuts wanted to simply repeal the ACA and leave nothing in its place, so that’s why they wouldn’t vote for Trumpcare. So, funny story. Emperor Bigly just declared war on the Kamikaze Caucus.

Well, this is an interesting development, I guess. It’s widely believed that Poor OG Orangeman John Boehner quit the Speaker of the House position because dealing with the Freedom Caucus was like bashing his head into a brick wall every g–damn day. It was believed that Paul Ryan would be some kind of Freedom Caucus-whisperer, that he alone could tame their intemperance. Turns out, not so much. While I loathe Bigly with all of my soul, I don’t hate this development at all – if Bigly is going to war with the biggest lunatics in his party, we all win. It’s lunatic vs. lunatic, madman vs. madman, winguts vs. Deplorables.

I’ll get the popcorn! I love infighting among my enemies!

  2. Lightpurple says:

Freedom Caucus came from the Tea Party, a group so stupid they didn’t bother to learn the second part of the historic slogan from which they took their name.

    No taxation WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, morons.

    • Becky says:

LP, I remember that Tea Party rep who had to be corrected about the 1st amendment/freedom of religion.

    • Susannah says:

I wore a shirt with the American flag on it to Target right after the election. One guy in the checkout line actually said, “I’m a Trump voter too” as he pointed to the flag on my shirt. When did the flag somehow get co-opted by Republicans?
These Tea Party people and Trump supporters somehow think they’re the most patriotic Americans, bringing it back to what this country was founded on, etc. Sure no rights for black people, women, poor people, etc. It just made me mad!
I’m an American, I’m a patriot, I support my country and I vote Democrat!
It was really awkward for the next few minutes in line.

      • kimbers says:

Lol ur a better person than i am, because I probably would have taken a handfuk of those EOS lip balm balls and started chucking them at him.lol i wear my patriotic socks and beanie all the time, but hell no i didnt vote trump.

    • Abbess Tansy says:

OMG Lightpurple, do you remember Michelle Bachman and her craziness, stupidity?

    • SusanneToo says:

“Keep your government hands off my Medicare!!”😂😂😂😂 They are rather profoundly stupid, aren’t they?

      • kNY says:

They want nothing to do with the government…except for those parts that they depend on.

      • vauvert says:

It hurt my eyeballs to read about the Rep Trump voters in Kentucky who all love Obamacare and admit it saved their lives. Literally. Before Obamacare they were not able to pay $6000 / mth for the medication and treatment needed included – get this!!! Oxygen, which the husband needs after working in a mine. BUT they voted Trump, just hoping he would leave ACA alone. I am a hateful person – I think they deserve to lose every benefit a Dem president gave them. They should rely on the kindness of Reps. See how far that will take them….

  3. Rapunzel says:

DT is poking the bear here. Let’s hope he gets mauled.

  4. Mikeyangel says:

Finally, a public service out of him!

    • ZGB says:

Lol, thank God. I hope he proceeds to make them all confused with who’s fighting who, they forget to cause wreckage!

  5. grabbyhands says:

I’m really hoping this results in the GOP consuming itself in one glorious moment of self immolation and takes out the Freedom Caucus, 45, Ryan, McConnell, Pence and every other right winger that spent the last eight years trying to screw Obama (and by extension, the entire country) because they couldn’t deal with a black man telling them what to do.

My only concern is this getting twisted into “see how crazy and extreme these nutjobs are? But you can trust us “regular” republicans!”, when their agendas are not dissimilar.

    • Kitten says:

I’m sure that’s how Trump is “selling” it but does it even matter at this point? Trump’s supporters have proven that they will turn a blind eye to literally ALL of his behavior, no matter how unconstitutional, how unethical.

That being said, this is a win for sure. Love me some infighting!

      • MC2 says:

I agree & Trump will try to make them the problem & the extreme but I think Trumpers have lost all credibility with the rest of us by now. I know people who really wanted to know why & what the logic was to support him but we got our answer & there is no turning back, at least for me.

      • Megan says:

Trump should absolutely go to town on the Freedom Caucus. Nothing stalls bad legislation like party infighting. This really is a win for all of us.

  6. The Original G says:

THIS is the moment I’ve been waiting for. Go to town, boys. These guys have been trying to drag women back to the cave for a decade.

  7. Luca76 says:

Hmm most important now is that if Trump moves to the left the Democratic Party must not roll over for him. In 2018 we have a shot at the Senate and even a small chance at the House (which means impeachment).

    • Lucy2 says:

I’ve read the reverse, that chances for the House are possible but the Senate is unlikely.

Either way I hope something changes.

      • AreYouForReal? says:

House is okay, because we can still block things in the Senate right now. We need the House.

      • Susan says:

House is the least likely. There are a lot of houses in straight Republican voting districts (gerrymandered to hell) that can’t be flipped. Senate seats aren’t subject to gerrymandering since they are statewide elections.

  8. vanna says:

I am giddy with glee. This is a great development.

  9. Alexandria says:

Feels like another distraction and deflection exercise. Meanwhile, who’s tracking the sons and Trump money…

    • adastraperaspera says:

I agree with you. I think this is a just a shot across the bow at the Freedom Caucus/Tea Party billionaire financial backers. He’s letting them know that he’s the big dog now, and he’ll sic the DOJ on them for fraud, etc. if they don’t play along.

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, I tend to agree. Although honestly who knows anymore. Every day I’m just aghast anew at how ignorant Trump is and how the GOP seems more than happy to do nothing about him or his slimeball family.

  10. Marty says:

Let him, he’ll get it from all sides then. The Koch brothers are the Freedom Caucus’ biggest donors, he’ll loose almost everytime.

    • The Original G says:

I disagree. I think the Koch brothers and their fanatical demagoguery MADE the Trump candidacy attractive to a lot of people who didn’t want a side plate of snide obstructionism in their elected officials. If Trump destroys their little hegemony, oh well.

      • Marty says:

Maybe, but my point is the Koch brothers have a lot more resources to oppose him and block his policies. Again, I’m taking this as win either way.

      • The Original G says:

I agree on the Koch’s. They’re like Russian oligarchs with stetson hats.

      • MC2 says:

The Koch brothers did not endorse Trump, likened him to Hitler & it was a thing in the GOP when other donors “split” from the Koch brothers by supporting Trump. Feb 7th one Koch gave a speech about dangerous Trump is & Trump kicked one of their peeps off his golf course……They hate each other & I am glad to see it hasn’t changed recently. I am getting my popcorn cuz this is a RHODC reunion special a few years in the making.

      • The Original G says:

Yes, I know, but it’s the opposition to the radical inflexible right-wing that Ted Cruz represented that made Trump seem more relatable and pragmatic.

If only popcorn had no carbs…….

      • MC2 says:

Next to Ted Cruz even the Grimm Reaper is more relatable……I am really going to enjoy this show & I do hope Ted Cruz joins in too.

      • Kitten says:

Yeah this isn’t Koch brothers, this is Robert Mercer and the rest of his family in conjunction with Bannon’s help.

        https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/19/us/politics/robert-mercer-donald-trump-donor.html?_r=0

And popcorn is really a healthy snack. I eat it every day. Carbs sure but tons of fiber.

  11. Emily says:

    MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA IT’S ALL HAPPENING!

Once I came out of my post-Election Day depression, the only hopeful thought I had was “eventually Ryan and the Republicans in Congress will do something to make DT mad and he’ll turn against them”. And here we are. The only problem is Trump’s approval rating is currently so low that this could backfire.

  12. Tinkerbell says:

I met a gal the other day who called herself a Freedom Fighter. I couldn’t figure out what she was talking about. Must have been this group.

    • Esmom says:

I thought they referred to themselves as “Patriots.” Grr.

    • Sigh... says:

If she was a part of this shitstorm, she probably couldn’t figure out what she was talking about, either…

    • Susan says:

Freedom Fighter to me sounds much more sinister, like lunatic militia person.

    • tw says:

Freedom from what? A civilized society? These people have freedom, what they want is anarchy.

      • vauvert says:

but but the Muslims are all radicals. Their patriotism is terrorism. Ours is the same but different. Goodlier and biglier….

  13. Vizia says:

    Hmm, remake of Suicide Squad?

  14. robyn says:

Freedom from government equals freedom from Health Care and all the other rights American’s deserve. They should fix ACA and stop trying to repeal. But Republicans are continuing to ruin America and block true common sense progress, based on reality, at every turn. I have zero respect for Trump, the Freedom folk or anyone selfish enough to have voted for Trump.

  15. Rapunzel says:

Meanwhile, Putin is being forced to personally deny that he meddled with the election. DT better get a royal food taster because the more his clownish behavior irritates Putin, the more Putin is likely to slip some ricin in Trump’s KFC.

    • TheOtherOne says:

ITA. I saw that this morning. Putin is KGB/the boogeyman. The more he HAS to speak to refute The Donald drama, the more danger The Donald is in. The Donald, you in danger, girl!

    • robyn says:

Putin and Trump have lying in common. Remember when the Russian Olympic team lied about using banded substances. They were exposed as liars but Putin continues to deny, deny, deny. Getting the facts and uncovering the truth is a challenge, especially when leaders can’t be trusted.

      • Lady D says:

I gotta say, I have never seen a country’s leader ever lie so blatantly and rip his own country off so obviously and publicly to boot. He actually thinks he’s invincible, and to be fair, he does seem to be getting away with it.

  16. Susan says:

This hopefully may also have the effect of tainting Trump. Now he’s a RINO, he succumbed to the establishment. He’s lost his cred with the crazies if he goes after the Freedom Caucus.

  17. SusanneToo says:

Have at it, guys! To the death! Guns or knives?

  18. Imqrious2 says:

When the smoke clears, let there not be any one of them still standing! 🇱🇷🇱🇷

  19. nemera77 says:

The Democrats need to be working as a team to develop some policies they can bring forth in opposition of what the Republicans are doing. They can’t just sit back and scream and do nothing. They need to use this time to lay a foundation for 2018 and 2020..

Let the Republicans eat their own. Don’t get suckered in by Trump. He is a liar and will do or say whatever to get himself out of the mess he is in.

    • MC2 says:

This is the truth. Trump’s win shows how much work the DNC needs to do so….hip, hip & get at it. Let’s not pull a GOP & be absent any plan after 7 years of complaining.

    • Kitten says:

The Dems are doing that, though. Just because you don’t hear about it, don’t assume they aren’t making plans.

If you aren’t already doing so, I recommend attending town halls: ask your reps questions, listen to what they are doing to protect the Americans who didn’t vote for this guy, but remember that their hands are essentially tied right now.
However, that does NOT mean they are sleeping at the wheel.

  20. Rapunzel says:

Oh, and apparently Comey wanted to speak out on the Trump/Russia ties, but Obama stopped him. Curiouser and curiouser.

    • SusanneToo says:

Obama held back so as not to appear to influence the election, not to appear to be smearing trump. I mean, who in their right mind thought a POS like trump could win? So, basically, release it or don’t release it, the good guys were screwed either way. Plus, the sanctimonious berniebros, jillstans, garyhuh? fans.

    • Rapunzel says:

Oh, yes, of course it’s clear why Obama didn’t say anything SusanneToo. What’s curiouser and curiouser to me is Comey. I’m having a hard time deciding if he’s trustworthy or not.

  21. tw says:

Dr. Frankenstein is shocked he can’t control his monster? Look, the dangerous rhetoric over the past several years created this extremist faction. Now they have to live with it.

  22. Amanda DG says:

I’m gonna kick back and watch them destroy their chances at reelection while eating popcorn and snickering. Republicans and the others who voted for these morons deserve this embarrassing circus they call government. Trump hasn’t followed through on any of his promises to the morons who voted for him and Ryan embarrassed himself with that awful healthcare plan.

  23. HK9 says:

Here we go-this is what happens when you put fascists in power. They’re all looking for a come up like crabs in a barrel and they turn on each other trying to get/maintain “power” destroying the state and leaving an unstable government for the citizens to put back together when they’re gone.

  24. Happymama says:

The freedom caucus caused Obamacare to fail because they aren’t really republicans just a mini party that had to join that side. It is beneficial if they continue to exist because it can lead to more terrible laws failing from lack of consensus.

  25. Disco Dancer says:

    I hope freedom
Caucus and the rabid right wingers exterminate Trump And his family first like roaches before they turn on each other! I’m loving how the republican unity and the flow of post election has already faded away so fast!

  26. Deeanna says:

I’ve read that Trump has no interest in history. And he doesn’t read. Maybe somebody ought to read him the Cliffnotes version of “All the President’s Men” along about now? It wasn’t the actual Watergate burglary that caused the eventual downfall of Nixon and his henchmen. It was the cover-up and the lies they told to support the cover-up.

They’re going to get him. And his cronies, no matter who they are. These investigations are not going to go away. And as soon as one of these committees starts putting people under oath, anyone who lies is going to put themselves in a very, very bad position.

I just love hearing Carl Bernstein’s opinions on CNN. Like when he said words to the effect of, “It’s all there, right in front of us. Every single sign that the White House is in cover-up mode!” Yep, and every day they affirm it more.

As in, how come they won’t even reveal who let Nunes onto the White House grounds the night he received all this classified information?
