Ryan Phillippe has been keeping a low profile lately, and it’s probably because he’s been working out. Hard. The 42-year-old actor posted photos from his upcoming spread for Men’s Fitness magazine’s June issue on Instagram to the delight of fans.
Ryan, whom I will never forget as the shirtless/short-short wearing bartender in 54, has still got quite the rocking body and puts it on display in a wet suit on the beach. He also demonstrates a perfect plank on the sand, which is quite impressive, as I can’t properly execute one on solid ground. Kudos to you, Ryan.
The images were captured by the Riker Brothers, twin photographers who could also easily be in front of the camera. I am a sucker for tall brunettes (see also: Jon Hamm). Ryan seemed to enjoy the experience, posting this caption on one of his Instagram pics that read in part, “despite my resting bitch face, i had fun working w @rikerbrothers today. they are awesome. and virgos too.”
The actor wrapped up 2016 by breaking up with fiancée Paulina Slagter after five years together. That doesn’t mean, of course, that Ryan is taking his ball and going home as far as relationships go. He told People back in December, “I don’t have a date or any plans set. I haven’t closed any books!” He allegedly starting working on a new chapter at Elton John’s 70th birthday party in Los Angeles on March 25, where he was seen “flirting” with also recently-single Katy Perry. Eh, I’m sure they were chatting and maybe a little flirting occurred, but I’m not ‘shipping these two just yet.
Ryan’s Men’s Fitness feature comes before his return to the big screen in the horror flick Wish Upon, which hits theaters on July 14. He stars alongside Twin Peaks’ Sherilyn Fenn and Shannon Purser, whom you might know better as Barb from Stranger Things. Ryan’s not in the trailer, but it looks like a decent way to spend a few hours. It’s good to see Ryan’s back…and his abs…and his biceps….

I would love to hear the tea about the Ryan + Reece breakup. At the time, I heard rumors that he could not deal with her success when his career was on the down swing, but I’m not sure if I buy that it was the only issue, if it was an issue at all.
