Here are some photos from today’s Cannes Film Festival photocall for Wonderstruck, the new Todd Haynes film. Wonderstruck stars Michelle Williams, Julianne Moore and some child actors. It’s based on Brian Selznick’s young adult novel of the same name and the reception at the first press screening for the film was “warm” and “polite.” As in, I think people liked the film a great deal but no one is like “this has Oscar written all over it!”
Anyway, let’s talk about fashion and hair. Michelle Williams still has her Louis Vuitton contract, which is why she inevitably ends up wearing LV to all of her major red carpets. Unlike the repeated sh-tshow LV looks we saw on Michelle throughout the awards season, I really don’t hate this LV minidress at all. It’s youthful and cute and she doesn’t look like a Civil War ghost, so YAY. But the hair… my God. I’m going to stop complaining about the length of her hair – because it’s pointless – but can she get a better colorist? She was wandering around the awards season with flat-out WHITE hair. And her current color is not good at all.
Also: check out Michelle’s lucite heels!! Very sexy for Our Lady of Perpetual Virginal Widowhood and Civil War Ghosts.
And here’s Julianne Moore at the same photocall in a very tragic green Louis Vuitton dress. Ugh, Julianne. You’re so pretty and cool but you need a different stylist.

What is Julianne thinking? Little House on the Prairie? She’s too beautiful for that weird sack-like dress. I guess the color is pretty on her?
It’s like Sister Wife Gone Rogue with the vibrant color.
This. She ia so gorgeous to me but she ruins all the joy of looking at her with her wacky fashion. Stop, please
And what’s with the hair? I’m not saying she needs an elaborate hairstyle but just maybe trim the ends and brush it?
Raincoat meets muumuu. Those are… choices.
What the F is Julianne wearing….she looks like she is getting ready to play a renaissance painter wearing robes in a biopic of Da Vinci…where she really painted all those masterpieces but had to let a Man take all the credit.
I just watched Suite Française on netflix because I had nothing else to do and boy was Michelle Williams bad in it.
And the problem was that she looked exactly like in her photos: joyless, expressionless, colourless etc. Like in the film, her style could work but if you move waaaay up in sharpness, contrast and colour.
I love Michelle’s dress, it’s cute.
It’s totally cute! But can she do something new with her hair already? The pixie suits her … but the color is pretty awful. Seriously.
I love the colour. And she’s has the complexion to pull it off.
Agree! I love the pixie on her!! I agree the color is too close to her complexion. Would love to see her in something warmer.
OMG Julianne!!! She has to be trolling us, right?
Michelle looks really cute.
How are those dresses even in the same collection? My god, Nicholas. Pick a vision.
Sexy and Michelle Williams are three words that will never work together for me. She’s adorable but I just can’t ever picture her sexy. Dunno why. Anyway, I like the dress, I actually don’t mind the hair but what I really thought was what the holy hell is Julianne wearing????!!!!!!!
Can someone explain to me why lucite heels are an acceptable fashion choice for anyone who doesn’t routinely carry singles in their g-strings? I missed this development apparently.
Only the heels of her shoes are clear.
I thought stripper shoes were ones that were clear on the uppers, not solid black except for a heel that can’t be seen unless you look at her from the back or side.
I like Michelles’ haircut. But Kaiser is right about the color. Was Williams going for Monroe’s famous Pillowcase blonde and missed?
As for the film, so far the few reviews are all over the place. WONDERSTRUCK [love me some Todd Haynes] was one of the most anticipated films at the festival. You never know what will take off.
The white blonde is still in. I don’t think it’s a particularly wholesome color against her skin, but I don’t dislike it either. Life would be boring if we never shook things up.
Meh Michelle Looks amazing, Again I consider her with her elfin features sorta perfect for this hair , I dont greatly love the color but it all works here.. And Also for LV?? This dress is a downright Triumph
I have NO words for Julianne’s Formal Bata ( Latinas, what’s up- YOU KNOW this is a Formal Bata… Like what my Abuela would consider Possible Burial Bata OR for a Hospital stay)
Oh, Julianne, no! Just awful. She looks great from the neck up, though. I really like Michelle’s look. I love the super-short pixie cut on her. She has the perfect face for it, strong features yet also very delicate. Her & Winona Ryder pull this look off the best. Not crazy about the color, but still love it.
idk, I actually like Michelle’s hair, that whitish colour looks good in a very weird way and her minidress is cute.
I like her shoes too, I have similar ones – only mine are from Clark’s, cost probably a tenth of what hers did, and have solid black heels and not clear ones. But they are very flattering and quite comfortable for heels.
Sorry, I don’t like that hair color at all. It is very aging on anyone past 25. She looks like she is 80. It sucks all the life out of her face. I just don’t like either dress–especially Julianne’s!! Yikes. I also saw a photo of her in a red feather dress with Susan Sarandon on the red carpet, and it too was awful. I guess when you are that beautiful, you think you can wear anything.
Michelle is cute as always, but that dress looks like a onesie.
Julianne’s dress looks like a maternity dress….from the 70s
LV is very miss rather than hit. Still, I like Michelle’s dress, I would want that in a romper to wear. My problem, I love wearing rompers…it a sickness ;p!
I love, love, LOVE Michelle Williams’ look, and I’m too polite to mention Julianne Moore’s dress.
