I know there’s not a lot of interest in Emmy Rossum, 30, but I love her in Shameless and I enjoy seeing her fashion, especially lately, and reading her interviews. There’s something refreshing and genuine about her and I want her to do well in life. That’s why I’m happy to report that she married her boyfriend, Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, 39, in New York on Sunday. The couple married at Central Synagogue on East 55th Street and then had a reception attended by about 100 people at the Guggenheim afterwards. Guests included Emmy’s Shameless costars like William H Macy and Shanola Hampton and Mr. Robot stars Christian Slater and Rami Malek. Emmy wore a beautiful off the shoulder dress custom designed for her by Carolina Herrera and created in homage to the architectural features of the Guggenheim. She kept it on all night and did not change into a second dress for the reception. Here are some more details from People, including the fact that Emmy did not stress over her wedding plans.
Around 7 p.m., the beaming newlyweds were the first to emerge from the synagogue, stepping out hand in hand and walking down steps decorated with white roses, as a small crowd of well-wishers gathered outside and cheered.
Afterward, the bride, groom and about a hundred guests headed to the Guggenheim Museum on the Upper East Side for a lavish wedding reception.
Rossum wore a custom off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera gown and a long white veil, while Esmail wore a black suit.
Rossum worked closely with Herrera and her team to create the look, which was partly inspired by the architectural shapes of the Guggenheim museum, the site of their reception.
“I went in, and Mrs. Herrera and I talked about silhouettes she’d done for bridal and silhouettes I’d worn before,” Rossum told Vogue. “I knew I’d be getting married at the temple, which is quite grand, and that the reception would be at the Guggenheim, so we knew that it needed to be a dress that could hold up to that. And it was Mrs. Herrera’s idea to make it quite modern and fresh, and kind of use the shape of the Guggenheim on the bodice…”
In February, she revealed at the Carolina Herrera show during New York Fashion Week that the designer (who she’s turned too for many red carpet events including this year’s Met Gala) would be creating her wedding dress.
“We haven’t done any [fittings],” Rossum told E! at the show. “We don’t even know yet. We’re no where.”
The star put full trust in Herrera, and was not nervous about the dress process at all. “She’s got it,” Rossum said. “There’s no rush. She can turn it around in a day. I’m not concerned.”
Rossum’s anti-bridezilla approach echoed across all of her wedding planning.
“I don’t really care what the dress looks like. I don’t really care what the plates look like. I don’t really care what the invitation looks like,” she said. “The only thing that’s really important to me is that we get married and there’s some kind of party.”
I admire that she had a big reception at an incredible venue (I’m so jealous) and yet wasn’t concerned at all over the specific details. Her gown was absolutely beautiful, but I’ve always been a fan of Herrera’s gowns. Plus she and Sam are just beaming in the photos coming out from their reception. (None of our agencies have those, but you can see one on People Magazine. It’s like their enthusiasm is infectious.) Congratulations to Emmy and Sam!

I have loved her since Phantom of the Opera and Day After Tomorrow. I can’t help but be a little sad that she wasn’t the final choice for Belle in Beauty and the Beast. As much as I love Emma Watson, Emmy is the epitome of Belle and she’s a much better singer. Sigh.
She would have been PERFECT for Belle ughh. She so incredibly talented and I echo this article’s statement that I want Emmy to do well in life (and it seems like she already is 😉 )

Emmy Rossum is only four years older than Emma Watson (who played Belle in the movie) and she could pass for Emma’s age imo…
I can’t help but agree, even though I actually find Emmy to be generally annoying. She would have made the better Belle.

I liked her comments about only having one dress-she seemed practical and down to earth about it all. (I think it helps that she’s been married before and so knows being a bridezilla is a waste of effort)

They married in the synagogue? But isn’t the groom muslim? Are you allowed to get married there even if you aren’t jewish? (no idea how any of this works, that’s why I’m asking)
If this is a Reform temple, then it would have been up to the rabbi who performed the service. Some rabbis perform interfaith weddings, some don’t. And then it depends whether the service followed Jewish custom or had some other elements. Unless he converted to Judaism, there might have been other elements, but it’s all about the rabbi and not necessarily the venue (though the building of an Orthodox congregation wouldn’t have a rabbi who performs interfaith services). They were under a chuppah. Looks like the rabbi wore a tallit? (And the rabbi was a woman, signalling more likely Reform, though Conservative finally ordains women I think). The whole thing looked gorgeous and happy!
Her dress was beautiful and if you haven’t seen the Guggenheim, it’s an historic modern building on NY’s Fifth Avenue, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. If you google the image (look inside and out!), you’ll see what the designer did on the bodice. Very clever.
it depends on the synagogue, respectively on the rabbi. I assume that it wasn’t a problem partly because the bride is Jewish and so according to Jewish tradition the children will be considered Jewish as well (while if the groom was Jewish but the bride wasn’t the children would not be considered Jewish).
I love her. Her dress is gorgeous. I clicked to find out who her husband is, then didn’t care enough to google him… but he’d better treat her right 😜

This is her second marriage, which I think accounts for the chilled vibe – if you’ve done it before you’re less likely to go bridezilla.

I’m a huge fan of Emmy! I feel like there isn’t enough about her on this site, but she also usually keeps her life fairly low key so there aren’t a lot of stories about her in general. I’m so happy for her, she looks stunning (as always) and Sam seems like a great guy that adores her so YAY a happy story in a nightmare world. 🙂

She keeps her life fairly low key? She sold that story (and she sold that story about the rehearsal). She is not very famous, that’s why there aren’t a lot of stories about her.

Is this a joke? Of course your agencies don’t have those pics. They hired a professional photographer. People magazine wrote many stories about this wedding and THEY took those pics.
