Producer/performer/entrepreneur Rick Ross got in trouble this week. And he deserved it. Ross has a new reality-competition show called Signed, wherein young rappers are vying to get signed to Ross’s Maybach Music Group label. To promote the series this week, Ross appeared on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club. Through the course of the interview, he was challenged on the fact that his label has never signed any women. This is how Ross explained it:
“You know, I never did it because I always thought, like, I would end up f–king the female rapper and f–king the business up. I’m so focused on my business. I gotta be honest with you… She’s lookin’ good, I’m spending so much money on her photo shoots—I gotta f–k a couple times.”
Keep in mind, this is likely the same rationale Mike Pence uses for refusing to work closely with female colleagues and refusing to ever eat a meal with a woman who is not his wife. The idea that men can’t work with women because those men just can’t help but f–k their female colleagues is very… outdated, let’s say. It punishes women for being women and it’s one of the reasons why women are not hired or promoted by men. It also would not surprise me if many men – of all different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, what have you – think this way. Anyway, Ross “backtracked” and make sure to check out how he uses his female relatives as proof that he’s not a sexist douche:
“I want to address an insensitive comment I made on a very sensitive issue, especially in a minority dominated industry like hip hop. My entire empire’s backbone is led by 2 of the strongest people I know and they happen to be women, my mother and sister. The operations wouldn’t run without them and I have the highest regard and respect for women in this industry. I have a daughter myself, my most cherished gift in the world.”
“My comment is not reflection of my beliefs on the issue. A mistake I regret. I hope to use my mistake, my platform and the community to create positive discussion to implement change on a very important issue. respect for the ones who stand up to say hey that isn’t right. Now it’s time to accept responsibility and all do better. I look forward to continue working with & supporting female artists. my discovery process was documented by vh1 on #signed which premiered last night. Many of the most talented artists you’ll see in the running to be the next #MMG superstars are female artists. I look forward to clarifying my comments through my support. Thank you to everyone who’s going through the journey with me, we coming out everyday stronger.”
No. He was telling the truth in the radio interview, and that’s how he really feels, and we can see it in his actions. He only wants to work with men and female relations. He actively discriminates against women. He doesn’t think much of women who are not related to him. Of course, both things can be true – he can have the “highest regard and respect for women in the industry” and have no interest in working with those women because he would feel the need to f–k them.

Ugh. The old “I have a daughter, therefore I could not possibly be sexist” justification. How is this any different than someone throwing around racial slurs and then excusing it by stating that they have a black friend?
And there you have it. That analogy fits this situation, perfectly.
I saw the interview n he didn’t look as if he were joking. He lost his deal with Reebok because of a rape(y) line in one of his songs. This is typical behavior for him.
its even sillier because a friend at least has to like you a bit, a daughter doesn’t have to at all. its not a relationship of choice, but usually of biology .
Imagine being the kind of person who believes that Rick actually wrote that statement, too.
I know right! I was reading his explanation and of course it’s the old “how can I hate women? My mom’s one.” FFS. You aren’t too bright are ya Rick?
And the woman has no say in the fucking? He’s talking about them like they’re objects, which to him they probably are. Yuck.
That’s what I’m saying. It sounds like he’s assuming any woman he would work with would want to have sex with him. Which is problematic since anyone he would work with would likely feel pressured to give into his advances because he would be her boss and the gatekeeper of her career. I think it’s better he doesn’t work with any women.
“She’s lookin’ good, I’m spending so much money on her photo shoots—I gotta f–k a couple times.”
He’s literally saying the women would OWE him sex because he feels he’s bought and paid for it. This is beyond disgusting.
I personally had a business opportunity several years ago that I walked away from in disgust because the guy ( much older) made it clear that he wanted this same type of arrangement in return for helping me. He stated it the same way, that he would be OWED sex. So reading this story made my skin crawl as that disgusting memory resurfaced from the deep hole where I buried it. Yuck.
Yep, it sounds like the woman owes him sex for paying the photo shoot and stuff – gross. I paid, so I want sth in return! :/
Also, he is incredibly unattractive.
Ross doesn’t see women as people.
Dude you are WAY too gross to be assuming that these women want you
I’m not sexist, I have a mom.
Ugh…
…Sigh. Man, not being a sexist pig is HARD.
If someone shows you that they’re trash, believe them.
What a disgusting attitude for someone to have
Dude, you work with your mom and sister because you are incapable of having a non-sexual relationship with a woman who is not family. This proves nothing.
A certain kind of guy seems to fall back on this idea that women are temptresses and instead of adressing their own issues (why you sexualizing everyone buddy?), they blame the tits.
If you can’t control yourself the problem is with you, not an entire gender ffs. Its like if everyone you meet is an asshole, you are actually the asshole. If everyone you meet is tempting, you have a self control problem.
Exactly this!
I have heard men who say the same thing about just having friendships with women. Most of them have major self esteem issues. I bet if one of those women he worked with turned him down he’d not be able to handle the blow to his ego.
Knowing there’s gross, egotistical pigs like him out there, is what makes me too worried and too careful when it comes to guys
Barf! Dude no one wants you to be f*cking them… the only way she would is for money or fame. Gross ass fat sexist pig.
Can’t stop laughing at his comment and everyone’s replies! So ludicrous…. like women are just eff toys nothing more. Sad world we live in these days… damn!
Sometimes I just hate people. Honestly.
He is a sexist, disgusting as*hole.
Apart from that he is just a dumb businessman. The biggest selling artists are female. Yes, beyonce, taylor swift, adele are no rappers but still.. how can you miss opportunities based on gender. Oh yeah, because all women are there to f*ck and serve him. What a tool. How some people survive with so much ignorance and stupidity Inside them, is beyond me
I’m glad he said it. We need to always remember that there are pigs out there like this and constantly remain educated, vigilant and focused on our rights and advocacy.
A LOT of men – especially in entertainment – think this way, but keep it under cover, until you are alone with them. Women/girls/boys need to be aware…a situation can go south very unexpectedly (for the victim.)
As an influential figure in the industry, Rick Ross could be doing so much to help women get ahead and….he just won’t. Out of the belief that a woman who has money spent on her, or who looks attractive at least some of the time, owes a man sex. Even worse, the woman in question is an employee, presumably producing music and revenue, which is all she’d owe an employer. It’s a huge, horrible tragedy.
This is so gross. I remember having an interview years ago, where the attorney who I would have been working with, called me up to tell me that he wasn’t able to offer me the position for which I had interviewed.
When I asked him why he decided not to hire me, he said that I was much too attractive, and that he would not be able to work with me as a result. He also went on to explain that his wife would be very upset if he hired a woman who was beautiful. Then he topped it all off by asking me to have dinner with him.
I was livid. I just couldn’t believe it.
Women go through so much crap, even attempting to get a job can put us at risk for some screwed up, sexist, predatory behavior from men who think like Rick Ross
HAHA of course she would have to be a paid employee to have sex with him. He’s so grossly unattractive, looks like Cleveland Brown from the Cleveland Show!
Stfu Rick.
