If Tom Hiddleston attends the Golden Globes, he’ll be wearing all-black

74th Golden Globe Awards

2017 was a pretty quiet year for Tom Hiddleston. He was aggressively awful in the first three months of the year, then he settled down and went nearly dark. He barely promoted Thor: Ragnarok and he hasn’t been on social media in months. We barely even get paparazzi photos these days. Beyond that GQ interview – where he dumped out his purse about Taylor Swift – the worst part of Hiddleston’s year was his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. God, do you remember that?? It was so awful. I’m cringing just at the memory of it. So here’s the question: will Tom return to the 2018 Golden Globes as a presenter? I say no, of course he won’t – he isn’t promoting anything and he’s done such a good job of being more low-key in the latter half of 2017. But other people think he will be a presenter. And if he does come out to present, his stylist is going to dress him in all-black, because apparently that’s the thing.

The women protesting Hollywood’s culture of sexual harassment at the Golden Globes won’t have to stand alone. Actor Dwayne Johnson and celebrity stylist Ilaria Urbinanti confirmed that at least some of the gents attending the big event will also be donning black in solidarity with their female colleagues.

“Because everyone keeps asking me… YES, the men WILL be standing in solidarity with women on this wearing-all-black movement to protest against gender inequality at this year’s Golden Globes,” Urbinanti wrote in a post to Instagram. “At least ALL MY GUYS will be. Safe to say this may not be the right time to choose to be the odd man out here… just sayin…”

Urbinanti styles such actors as Tom Hiddleston (Kong: Skull Island, Thor: Ragnarok), this year’s best supporting actor nominee Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name), Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound), and Johnson (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The Fate of the Furious). The Rock commented on Urbinanti’s post to confirm that “yes we will” be among the all-black-wearing attendees.

[From EW]

The Rock will be wearing all-black. So will Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer, because they both have important films during the awards season. But Hiddleston? I still say no, he won’t come out. That would be my recommendation for him too – stay away from the Globes this year. Maybe hold out for an invitation to present at the Oscars.

I like Tom and apart from the small mistake called Tay Tay, he seems like a nice, down to earth decent man.

Very good actor who has managed to make Loki look darkly sexy. I support Loki over Thor because of Tom😉

    • Josie says:

Yeah I agree, that’s why the whole involvement seemed so odd and unbelievable to me at the time.

    • Lolo86lf says:

Taylor Swift is like poison Ivy to an actor’s career or reputation. Tom’s career took a nosedive because of Swift. Those are questions more than statements. I find it hard to believe a woman has such dark powers.

      • lightpurple says:

His career has not changed course at all.

      • Willow says:

His career has changed. When was the last time he was cast in a new project in the last two+ years? A three week play directed by his mentor and a few days of voice work does not count. Marvel is not taking up that much time because his colleagues have been doing other movies during breaks and he is not even a lead.

      • lightpurple says:

@Willow, believe what you want. I’ve been watching people predict his career demise on this site for the past 4 years and yet, he keeps popping up in things.

      • Willow says:

Did I say he would be doing hemorrhoid commercials? No. But as an actor, your greatest assets is to look busy and in high demand, especially for high profile or prestige projects. That is not happening for him for a couple years. Only DDL can get away with that. That animated movie is going to flop to high heaven. I guess he can run Loki into the ground, but you can bet Loki/Marvel is not what he wants to be only remembered for, especially if he wants to be a leading man regardless of the genre. So I don’t understand talk indicating that this great. And aren’t they starting to phase characters out to bring in new ones?

And people getting angry about the shirt being brought up again. It was the culmination of that, the to be tone deaf speechs and weird interviews, having the Bond producer publicly diss him, the ill advised photoshoots, not having other great performances to focus back on his craft…

      • Cranberry says:

        @willow
It was not a culmination of all those things. He made some mistakes and mis-steps to be sure. The OTT Tiddlesbang pap photos of him with TS everywhere including with parents and then the off-tone GG speach are perhaps his biggest.

The t-shirt, interviews, other photo shoots and the rest of all that NIT PICKING were only a big deal to petty, female gossip culture. The t-shirt only got traction because it referred directly to TS. Because he was dating TS at the time, he was harshly scorned in relation to her, as a part of her follower celebrity posse she typically surrounds herself with and which she’s come to be widely criticized for.

The Broccoli producer didn’t name him or diss him. She was only responding to all the overwhelming rumors that were out of hand by that time. He was tired of all the rumors too, but it took Broccoli to come in a dismiss them all. I don’t think she meant that as a diss to Tom, but gossip-tabloid culture turns it into that because they need to have a conflict or scandal to get clicks and sell stupid rags. Point is that most people, even those that follow celebrity gossip didn’t see Tom as the culprit. Bond battling is very common in British celebrity culture and in the end people get tired of it and see it for what it is. In the end no one gave a shit what Broccoli said, and trust me the tabloids will use Tom again to whip up some Battle of the Bond clicks. Outside of gossip tabloids, people don’t even know that Broccoli said anything or any inferred diss to Tom.

      • mamasita says:

        Willow
Barbara Broccoli didn’t say anything publicly about Tom. That was a rumor from “a Hollywood source”.

      • Milla says:

Did she force him to go out with her? Are we really gonna blame a 20sth woman for his TS shirt? Seriously, dislike her all you want, but don’t make him a victim of her vag…

      • Cranberry says:

        @Milla
No one forced him to date her, true. Although he may have been pressured by his agent. But still, he has to take responsibility nonetheless.

Let’s clarify one other thing. It wasn’t his t-shirt! It was definitely hers as there were several other I Heart TS tees at her party. It was clearly meant to be TS making fun of all the crap she gets for her celebrity entourage – or whatever she calls it, I can’t recall right now. Much like the attitude she takes in “Reputation” where she puts a t-shirt in her video. So yes, that incident was generally her idea and thus her doing. TH just made the mistake of being a good sport by putting it on when he went into the water. Neither of them did anything that was terrible and yes everybody over reacts to it.

      • Willow says:

If someone was lying and said something so bad and harmful, then why did she or someone not come out and set the record straight? Slam dunk libel case.

It is hilarious how much you guys are trying to protect him as if he is a child. I simply pointed out what HW already saw.

      • mamasita says:

        Willow
Why she would even care about Tom and the rumors about him?

      • Cranberry says:

        @willow
The rumors where getting out of hand mostly because of tabloids stoking the Bond Battle fires. It goes overboard in GB because, well, that’s one of their biggest and longest cash cow franchise. It’s a big deal there and every damn Brit actor gets thrown into the mix. It got out of had with Tom because of TNM Pine role was very Bond-esque, old school, and because his management put out some rumors stateside when he was promoting TNM in US.
Was Broccoli responding to US film journos questioning her about Tom as Bond? That and the combo of tabloids going into overdrive for clicks? Maybe. When HW entertainment media start sniffing around that probably makes a difference on what would other wise be regular Bond fodder in GB.

Broccoli probably wanted to make sure it didn’t turn into another Pierce Brosnan situation. There was a great deal of demand for Pierce as Bond in the US, and they put him off to their own demise. And rightly so, he made a great Bond, and that’s what US audiences wanted. But now they’ve taken Bond in a totally new direction type wise with Craig. Not to mention during all this she and Craig were re-negotiating his contract. It was very soon after she made the supposedly diss that they announced Craig staying on with a whopping pay increase.

Point being there’s so many things at play regarding this. So call everyone stans all you want, you’re just reading it as the tabloids dished it. No great revelations there.

      • lightpurple says:

@Willow, no, not a slam dunk libel case at all. She would have to show malice aforethought AND actual damages. What damages did she suffer? None.

    • Izzy says:

To be sure, he has handled the aftermath of their relationship with so much more grace and class than she has.

    • Sherry says:

I will admit that I didn’t know much about Tom Hiddleston before Taylor Swift started dating him. A few days ago, my kids and I were watching Kong (horrid film) and I had an entirely different view of him.

Why on earth did this handsome man deign to put on an I Heart TS tshirt? He could have been James Bond in the future. I could actually picture him as Bond. Not now. Not after dating her and wearing that shirt.

      Why????

      • Squiggisbig says:

Assuming his relationship with TS was real…which it was so bizarre who knows. My uninformed opinion is that he went so over the top with Taylor as some sort of reaction to having to be undercover with Elizabeth Olsen (he was rumored to be dating her for awhile but they seemed very secretive) and/or misguided belief he could use the publicity to secure the bond role.

      • Cranberry says:

I have a lot of criticisms about him and Taylor’s “relationship”, but I find the most petty thing people hold against him is the I Heart TS t-shirt. It’s only female gossip/sm culture that goes there. Which falls exactly inline with how petty and even toxic female gossip has become.

A few shots of him in the water with it on. No other shots of him wearing it throughout the day or around town. It wasn’t his shirt anyway- too small. There were several other I Heart TS shirts at the party too so TS obviously had them made as some sort of self parody joke. It was insignificant, silly laugh that got photographed and put online. Why do people act like he did such a terrible crime? Why do people choose to make something out of nothing? Something that had no significance, no real meaning, just something that amounted to a carefree joke?

      • lightpurple says:

Squiggsbig, he was not up for the Bond role. It was not available and he himself said the role was not available when those stupid Daily Mail/Sun rumors started during The Night Manager.

      • mamasita says:

        Squiggisbig
Nah, the Bond’s creators pick out only the unknown before actors for Bond.
But there was the rumor right before Taylor’s debacle that Olsen cheated Tom with some very famous man.

      • not a real think says:

So you won’t take him serious anymore and won’t see his movies because he wore a silly t-shirt? You know how stupid it sound right? It amaze me how big stick some people has in their as*es. Is this only USA and GB specific? I’m form Europe and like 99% peple didn’t get what was wrong with t-shirt and GG speech. Most on gossip sides was like – “Ok so dude said something about poor people and rich HW people are angry now. What a bunch of idiots”. Seriously, you guys on gossip sides like CB,DM, DL etc. are a small group. 80% comments here and on other gossip sides are always from the same people. It isn’t a big picture. There is a world beside Daily Mail and CB 🙂
So apparently, as “expert” on gossip sides and Twitter said, Hiddleston career is over after HS. But after HS finished he:
        – won a GG – so apparently people in industry didn’t get memo, that his career is over 🙂
        – had two big blockbusters (1,3 bilion on BO) – I didn’t saw any petition to cut him from any of this movies or people saying that they won’t see KSI or TR because Hiddleston isin it. I saw rather people, who was saying how good he was as Loki and how hot in Kong;
        – had small charity play of Hamlet – people was dying to see it. Media was demanding to air this play for a public. I saw on Twitter a lot of people who was doing anything to get tickets. They went on Hamlet, even if few months ago was saying tthat he is a bad actor and his career is over.
        – he just won GQ mst stylish man of 2017 – he won with Harry S., Zain, Sawn M., Robert P. etc. Last year he lost in final with Federrer. But how it is possible – “expert” said that he lost his fans after HS. SO who was voting on him? 🙂 Dude has a huge fanbase in Asia (expecialy China). He is so popular there. He just could made some mmovie there and earn sh*t of money. After KSI, TNM and TR he had a lot new fans. Now his fanbase isn’t only Marvel fans, like 2-3 years ago.
Sorry for this long post, but I really is funny. If it is so bad (according gossip sides), why it is so good for him?

      • Cranberry says:

“So you won’t take him serious anymore and won’t see his movies because he wore a silly t-shirt? You know how stupid it sound right?”

Thank you @not a real think.

IKR. I really wonder if people really listen to how petty and mean-girl they sound when they say these things over something so trivial. Online gossip culture is all about who can dis better and make it stick. Then everyone can feel “included” piling on. Sad.

      • Sherry says:

I never said I’d never see a movie with him, I just think it was extremely poor judgement on his part to be seen in a “fangirl” moment wearing that shirt. You didn’t see Ryan Reynolds wearing one.

I hope he can move past his association with TS. He’s a good actor and very handsome; however, for now, whenever his name is mentioned, it’s usually accompanied by “Taylor Swift’s ex” and that photo. I think that association derailed his career trajectory – not permanently, but it certainly slowed it down.

      • not a real think says:

well I read some articles recently and TS and that photo wasn’t mention. But if you only read gossip and tabloid – you will see TS. She made her career on gossip, so they will mention her. But please – do you really think that people in HW care what CB or DM wrote about celeb? If Variety or HR mention her and t-shirt in every articles about him – it would be a problem. Like I said – people who are on Twitter on gossip sides forget that they aren’t whole world. They aren’t even 1% 🙂 Most people don’t know what DM or CB wrote.

      • mamasita says:

        Sherry
Ryan Reynolds didn’t date Taylor did he? Why he would wear such shirt?

      • not a real think says:

And abot Ryan Reynolds – he made stupid thinks in his career – worse that silly t-shirt. And now he (40yo actor) will be a star of a movie about Pokemons 🙂 What a great movie for a great actor 🙂

      • cranberry says:

        @mamasita

You didn’t have to be dating TS to wear one of her I Heart t-shirts. It was a jag to poke a little fun at herself with her friends. That, or she was hoping to inspire her fans with more TS merchandise to spend their $ on. She can always count on her fans to wear it.

    • virginfangirl says:

The tshirt reminds me of the time my coworker needed to borrow an umbrella. I always kept one but it happened to be my daughters, one she had outgrown, in fact a pink Disney princess one, & worse yet toddler size. He proudly used it to keep watch as kids got on the bus, & us adults all got a good laugh. Yeah, as you can see, I never saw the big hoop la over that t. Glad he can joke around. World would be a mighty boring place if you can’t after all.

  2. Mara says:

Is that really much of a statement considering 99% of men where black to these things anyway?
It’s like protesting climate change by wearing sunglasses on a sunny day.

    • Mia4s says:

Exactly. Gee thanks for doing the bare minimum guys as always! Here’s a standing ovation. 🙄 Whatever.

    • Margo S. says:

I think what’s different is their shirts will be black too. Not just the suits.

      • Chaine says:

Big Whoop. They should pick a color that men don’t normally wear, like peach or magenta, and all wear that if they want to show some effort in solidarity.

      • QueenB says:

Alright then we can put sexual harassment behind us, everything is sorted out. Good!

Also the guy that wears black shoes with black socks must be made King of Feminism.

      • Shambles says:

Or they could just stop harassing and assaulting women, hold their peers accountable for harassing and assaulting women, and/ or consistently stand up for and believe women who have been harassed or assaulted. That would work.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

Chaine, I like your idea for the men better than them wearing plain old black.

    • HIDI says:

troof ,nuffin will change even if all OSCAR NOMINEES wear all-black ,your comment is quite COMMONSENSICAL

    • Elizabeth says:

Agreed. But then I don’t think it’s much of a protest for the women, either, considering how many of them wear black to these things.

    • Lizzie says:

actually she is known for styling men in prints and colors other than black.

  3. Whoopsy Daisy says:

This is nor just about him, but Hollywood so very rarely actually does something, but dear God, do they like to put on a show and pat themselves on the back for it.
So much style, so little substance.

    • HIDI says:

Right on, , i do think that its all for show , they all know that is the latest trend ,so they all take advantage of the fact

  4. Michelle says:

Sorry, but wearing black is not going to bring about change. Change is what women are in desperate need of. Fashion doesn’t solve this issue. It might be a nice gesture to show solidarity, but it is an empty gesture.

    • Originaltessa says:

This protest is really bothering me, because who is really losing here? The abusers, or the fashion houses, stylists, fans of the broadcast, entertainment outlets that rely on these few days of the year to make their numbers?? Ok, let’s punish the fashion. That’s the real criminal here!

      • Cranberry says:

Actually, this is why I think it’s good that they’re doing a fashion ‘Black’ out for the award shows. These shows are televised and a big deal in ALL the entertainment industry not just for the studios and actors. The problem of sexual harassment is throughout the entire industry from fashion to pr and media etc. Everyone needs to feel the burn. The viewers need to be reminded again and again but also the rest of the industry too. The commercial sponsors need to feel the pain of what happens when an entire industry covers up bad behavior and even criminal behavior. It’s only then that all sectors of the industry start to see that there are consequences at every level for covering up, looking the other way and allowing sexual harassment to exist and prosper.

      • jetlagged says:

But there aren’t consequences, at least not in HW – not yet anyway. Sure Harvey Weinstein got booted out of the club, but imo that was more about him being universally hated than his actual behavior. Roman Polanski, Kevin Spacey, Casey Affleck, Bryan Singer, and Dustin Hoffman are all still card-carrying members of the Academy, and at least one of them will probably be a presenter at the upcoming awards shows. How pointless (and utterly hypocritical) will it be to have an audience full of black-clad actors/actresses applaud when Casey Affleck walks on stage to present the Best Actress statue?

      • Cranberry says:

@jetlagged, no not legal, criminal consequences. None of this will affect any legal case that may be brought about – ie. Weinstein. But the problem is a cultural problem throughout an incredibly money driven industry. When things start to affect the bottom line of every sector in the industry, those become serious consequences. If actresses choose not to fully cooperate by only wearing black designer dresses, this affects the designers not getting their best dresses showcased on tv. They depend a great deal on the awards season rc that is televised to millions of viewers. There’s pre-show, red carpet programs specifically to promote fashion and gowns notable actresses are wearing.

Now everyone will be wearing boring black on the red carpet and will likely be asked about sexual harassment in HW. The show producers and sponsors are definitely hoping this will not turn off viewers and cause people to turn the channel. It is disruptive of the “business at usual” attitude and makes everybody, no matter what part of the industry, worry a little of inadvertent negative impacts to their business.

  5. Nicole says:

I mean it’s still performative wokeness but at least some of the guys are taking a stand here. They should be willing to also field questions so we shall see

  6. Shambles says:

Waow, men will change the color of their shirts in solidarity with women!! Much grateful. Very indebted.

    • Nicole says:

What I want to see is if there are any questions asked and if any celebs will answer them. Let’s see how far this will go

  7. Beth says:

Most guy wear black just like lots of the dresses women usually wear to award shows are black, so wearing black to make a statement is really unnoticeable.
Tom always looks handsome in a suit or tux no matter what the color. Sexy in a suit. He seems like a sweet and polite gentleman and it’s too bad there aren’t many more like him.

  8. Nancy says:

Remember Kramer on Seinfeld walking in a march to benefit AIDS in Central Park and is attacked by activists for not wearing a ribbon. Hiddleston could wear a red feather in his cap, but what does it matter. Hollywood needs to get over themselves. Maybe have another award show for all of those who wore black. Like @Michelle above said, “it is an empty gesture.”

  9. Liberty says:

Every time I consider Hiddleston, I think of the game my friends and I play: NY lunch, five years in Paris flat, or baby in the Cotswolds.

He would be, to me, NY lunch.

  10. lightpurple says:

Early Man is being released in January and he and Maisie Williams have been doing the PR around it.

  11. QueenB says:

Im all for men using their power to wear black socks that they would have worn anyway to support women!

  12. MI6 says:

Jesus, how I wish we could let that GG speech go. He meant well, and those of us who are accustomed to his extra-ness didn’t interpret it as self-serving in any way. That’s just him. He’s passionate about his charity work.
I am quite certain if he hadn’t associated himself with a certain 🐍, those remarks never would have been misinterpreted to the degree they were.

    • Izzy says:

      This.

    • lightpurple says:

And he barely promoted Kong. That GQ interview was mostly the writer putting herself into the interview, which is something she does.

      • MI6 says:

I don’t care if I am the only one, but I liked that GQ interview. It was honest and extra and heartbreaking, told in the words of a man who had begun to realize he had been complicit in his own manipation.
Hopefully he has now learned that infatuation with fame is NOT love.

      • lightpurple says:

And we learned the bolognese is really good.

      • jetlagged says:

@LP, I heart you (though not enough to wear a t-shirt that says so), but I wouldn’t say he barely promoted KSI. Off the top of my head there was the GQ cover, the Today Show, Live with Kelly, fan Q&A’s in NYC, Kimmel (twice), more junket interviews than I can count, and Kong-sized, full-blown red carpet premieres in London, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Beijing.

  13. Ayra. says:

Wow. All black from the men AND women.
    What.
    A.
    Statement.

  14. Valiantly Varnished says:

Ugh. This whole dressing in black thing is dumb AF anyway. Activism without action is merely performance.

  15. Willow says:

Why would he get an invitation to present at the Oscars? That makes zero sense.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

Why wouldn’t he?? If the Rock can get one then so can Tom Hiddleston.

      • Willow says:

Call me when Hiddleston becomes one of the most famous and biggest box office stars in the world and recognizable to the general public as more than Loki. Is he a former nominee or in a nominated film? Can’t believe the question. Stans…

      • lily says:

@willow, is there any superstar left in HW though. Cause, from what I am seeing name doesn’t bring money, franchise does. Is rock a bigger star than Tom? Hell no. And is known as Loki is bad? *sees marvel record* Don’t think so. I know iron man, hulk, Thor and still don’t know Iron Man, hulk’s name. People care about the characters, they’re remembered for longer times than “once upon a actor played that was supposed to be something”.Loki, Thor, Cap are easily remembered and it brings more fans and money and fame.

      • Cranberry says:

@willow, Agree it wouldn’t make sense for Tom to get an invitation to present at the Oscars. And although The Rock is a big box office star world wide, he also is somewhat out of place at the Oscars without being connected to an Oscar project – although less out of place than TH, true. They’ll put The Rock in the show for the ratings because of his commercial success, because US mainstream needs to be spoon fed anything that’s not 100% sugary commercial-coated. Same reason they put Taylor Swift in the ads leading up to the Oscars or Emmys last year.

      • jetlagged says:

@Willow, Hiddleston was in two giant blockbusters this year, and he only played Loki in one of them. His films grossed over $1.4 billion (with a b!) at the worldwide box office in 2017. @lily is right, the era of the action hero is over, I doubt there is any actor working today whose name alone could guarantee a huge opening weekend box office. But no, Hiddleston won’t present at the Oscars – at least this year.

    • lightpurple says:

You asked twice & I answered below. But, short version: Oscars on ABC. Disney owns ABC. Disney owns MCU. Disney uses Oscars to promote MCU films. He is in a MCU film due for release in May. So, not far-fetched but he probably won’t be asked.

      • Willow says:

That was an unintentional double post. You can scream about synergy all you want and Tom can be in all the blockbusters he wants to be in this year, but who is talking about him from Kong and praising his performance? And what has it done for him casting wise? More Loki? No one in that movie got a career boost because it began and ended with Kong and him fighting monsters, not the forgettable cast. Same thing happened with Godzilla.

No one is checking for him at the Oscars…except his stans.

And you can crap on The Rock all day while he books yet another film…unlike Tom.

      • lightpurple says:

Uhm, where did I crap on The Rock? I didn’t. I also have repeatedly said I don’t expect him to be at the Oscars but just keep ignoring that. You don’t like the guy. That’s your prerogative. But it really isn’t necessary for you to put words in people’s mouths or bash others.

    • virginfangirl says:

Talent doesn’t always equal the biggest paychecks. Just look to the Kardashians as an example. Some people have the right look to fill a niche, though their talent is limited. Tom has NEVER gotten a bad review for his acting, and in fact always gets good if not great reviews, even when the movies got bad reviewed his role has been praised. And he’s proven that he can play any part, from Hamlet to Loki to an American country star with a southern accent. My guess is he’s not in it to earn the most money he can possible earn. He’s still rich as hell, but seems to enjoy acting in different roles that challenge him. Who is so shallow to compare someone’s worth on the amount of money they’ve earned or the screen time one gets even if that actor is so limited in the character they can play? If a casting director wants an actor that will almost guarantee to do great job in the role regardless what that role is, bet Tom’s on their list.

  16. Willow says:

Why would he get an invitation to present at the Oscars? That makes zero sense.

    • lightpurple says:

He’s an Academy member. Oscars are on ABC. ABC is owned by Disney. Disney produces Marvel Cinematic Universe. MCU has a huge film to promote called Avengers: Infinity Wars. He is in Avengers: Infinity Wars. ABC usually has some of the Marvel crowd present at the Oscars, although it is usually one of the Chrises. So, no, it isn’t far-fetched that they would have him present but I doubt he will. Also, we had years of Jessica Biel & Jessica Alba presenting and that never made sense.

      • Willow says:

Yes, and Biel and Alba got heckled into the ground for it by the press and Twitter, who wondered why someone with no box office clout or prestige awards were presenting at the Oscars. Same thing happened to Sophia Vegara.

And you are reaching do the the Marvel, ABC, Disney connection. I understand the synergy thing, but if they are going to do that they would pick someone coming in hot off Black Panther like Chadwick, one of the Chrises since they are the leads in the upcoming movie. Hiddleston??? There is a rack of more relevant Marvel people I would tap before him if I was the producer, but nice try.

      • Beth says:

Jeez @willow. Is there a reason why you’re so against Hiddleston? I don’t watch the award shows anymore, but there didn’t seem to be rules about who was eligible to present the awards, and sometimes I didn’t even know who they were. Marvel movies are a big thing, he’s a Marvel actor who starred in a recent hit movie, so maybe that’s why he’s a presenter.
Like @Light Purple said, ABC, Disney, and Marvel are all connected

      • Lightpurple says:

@Beth, not only anti-Hiddleston but anti-anyone who isn’t anti-Hiddleston. No, the Disney ABC Marvel connection isn’t far-fetched. Thor-Ragnarok is scheduled for DVD release the week before the Oscars. And having Black Panther cast as presenters doesn’t preclude having other Marvel actors too. But as I said, he probably won’t be at the Oscars.

He won GQ this year beating Harry Styles and Zain’s army. So I think his reputation is fine among women and men simply don’t care about gossip. They were too busy figuring out why Loki looked so handsome and young in every film while Thor looked like creepy truck driver in Ragnarok (yes, the NY scene).

  18. Dinah says:

Since the terrible acceptance speech, I fear he’s already being seen as a male version of Sally Fields.

  19. seesittellsit says:

After so many lapses into indignity, it was nice to get the sense that Hiddles understood the need to retrench and rethink. I think he did exactly the right thing this year, and comes out of it with a good deal more dignity than I expected. I hope he goes for good roles from now on, and maybe some soul-searching pointed him away from “major movie star leading man” and toward “interesting and gifted actor”. It’s not as if he’ll starve if he doesn’t turn into Brad Pitt. I like him better this way. Hope it marks a turning point in how he sees life and career.

  20. diane says:

I think that in today’s political and socially misogynistic climate being known as a nice guy, even with the occasional misstep, might be Hiddleston’s greatest asset…..

  21. Meg says:

Just imagine how tough it is for him to stay away from cameras and attention? He eats it up, the episode of Graham Norton where he does impressions of Robert deniro with him sitting right there went on too long and was akward to watch. He must be going crazy. Not sure how Taylor did it either although toms been away longer

    • Justme says:

He seems to be doing fine. When people meet him now, he usually refuses a “selfie”, but will often ask their name, shake their hand and chat for a while. He had his puppy on the tube recently and was happy enough to chat with a woman. One of the things he said in an interview with an Italian magazine was that “Nobody is guilty of being a celebrity, but you become an accomplice if you stir up rumors.”. He may have recognized that he was doing this and decided that pulling back was necessary. I think he actually is fairly thoughtful and the last couple of years may have opened his eyes to his own complicity in what went wrong for him.

  22. spidey says:

@ Cranberry and beth best not to put my real name in my posts, they have all disappeared.

    • Cranberry says:

      Holy sh*t, sp-eye-dey !

All our comments disappeared! Why does CB do this to you? ? ? There was nothing wrong with anything we posted.

Change your name to something similar. Several of us have had to re-invent ourselves on here before.

  23. Ozogirl says:

I roll my eyes whenever I read about this “all black” Oscar thing. It’s only an easy (lazy) way for the rich, white entertainers in Hollywood to be able to claim, “See! We did something! We care!” Ok…wear black, then what? What does that change?

  24. Bint says:

Ilaria is on Instagram and has photos of rapist friend Danny Masterson and sexual harasser client Ben Affleck.

How about Hiddleston AND the Rock show solidarity with HW’s rape and sexual harassment survivors and get a new stylist??

    • waitwhat says:

And don’t forget sexual harasser Casey Affleck — I wonder if he’ll wear all black and that will make everything better when he’s presenting Best Actress.

      https://www.instagram.com/p/BMg3QxTB08s/

I like your idea about them getting a new stylist. That would say a lot more.

    • Emma says:

I doubt there’s a single stylist working in Hollywood who hasn’t had professional or personal associations with a harasser. It’s simply too prevalent and Hollywood’s too small a world.

If anyone who knows or has worked with a harasser is shunned there’ll literally be no-one safe to work or associate with. It’s just not practical.

      • Bint says:

Then she should be more particular about her clients. I would be embarrassed to be associated with either Affleck brother or Masterson. Look at Gloria Allred’s daughter and how quickly she distanced herself from Harvey and the Weinstein corporation.

There is integrity in recognizing a mistaken association and doing something about it. There is guilt in knowing association with victimizers.

    • Eiré says:

Bint! I waded through this whole thread hoping someone would mention this!

Worth noting that she is not only friends with Masterson, but they dated, owned at least two (failed) businesses together, she’s a Scientologist, and, on top of all of that, has been quietly garnering support for Masterson among friends.

      • Bint says:

Ugh…I had no idea her entanglement went so deep.

It makes my skin crawl to think that there has been and continues to be such a pervasive “circle-the-wagons” atmosphere around these abusers! At least Masterson lost his job on The Ranch. I want him in jail, though. Same with Casey Affleck.

Tom and Dwayne, DIG DEEP and GET A NEW STYLIST!

  25. Liberty says:

Phwaw the black clothing. Who cares?

But If they roll HW onto the stage in a mobile glass jail cell and leave him there to the left of the podium during the entire awards show, then I will say: well done.
