The last time I checked on Ellen Page’s love life, she was dating a blonde surfer girl named Samantha Thomas. That was in 2015, and I sort of just assumed that Ellen and Samantha were still happening. They were not! They broke up at some point – maybe early last year? – and Ellen began dating Emma Portner last summer. After less than a year of dating, they… got married! Or they eloped, I’m not actually clear about that. I think they eloped because I’m not sure they even told anyone about it ahead of time.
Ellen Page is married! “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife,” the Flatliners actress wrote on Instagram, tagging her new fiancée, Emma Portner. A representative for Page confirmed the happy news to PEOPLE.
The post also included a photo of Page, 30, and Portner’s hands, complete with wedding bands, touching against a white background. The actress first began posting photos with Portner on social media over the summer. A teacher at the Broadway Dance Center, Portner is originally from Ottawa, Ontario, according to her bio on the dance school’s website.
“Her performance and choreography appear in Justin Bieber’s ‘Life Is Worth Living’ video as well as on his Purpose World Tour,” the biography states. Page has posted numerous interpretive dance videos with Portner and the duo have sometimes shared cover songs together.
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy this. I enjoy Ellen Page in general – I think she’s genuinely quirky and funny and smart, and I want good things for her, in her professional and her personal life. While I think a wedding/elopement after less than a year of dating (??) is sort of Kaley Cuoco-esque, I trust Ellen’s judgment. She’s 30 years old, not 20. She knows what she wants. And what she wants is to become one half of the cutest Canadian duo since… I don’t even know. Move over, Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger! These two are the real Canadian sweethearts.

“one half of the cutest Canadian duo since…“ Alanis Morissette and Ryan Reynolds.
Yes! Man, I miss that couple.
I still don’t understand how you go from Alanis Morissette to Blake Lively. I miss Alanis/Ryan.
Sigh…I loved Alanis & Ryan!
Gotta say, though, when I think ‘Canada’s sweetheart couple’, it will always be Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
I also think of Canada’s sweetheart= Ryan gosling and Rachel McAdams.
Also Ryan Reynolds is quite the proposer!
Avril And Chad are no longer married, I believe…
And they were never cute.
Thank you.
Please stop perpetuating the idea that Canadians love Chad and Avril. We DO NOT! End the madness!
: D
Two things:
Sincerely happy for them and wish them both ages of joy
I really hope Ellen helps bring grunge back, because I love the flannel tied around the waist and she looks awesome.
Yes and yes. I was thinking how cute they both looked, albeit pretty standard hipster.
I love the wedding ring photo and I wish them a wonderful future together.
But choreographing for Justin Beiber does not help one’s street cred IMO.
Ha. I’m guessing she is going less for street cred than professional dance cred, though.
They have nice hands!i have hideous hands! So happy for them! Love her.
Good for them! I’m a straight, married woman and my fan girl heart broke just a little because I wanted Ellen all for myself 🙂 kidding. I do love her though. I have always enjoyed her offbeat sensibilities. More people need to be like her and bring some of that into the mainstream.
Love Ellen! So happy for her, she deserves the happiness.
Love the hands pictured. I’m a bit nervous about meeting and marrying in one year for young couples in general. For my love of Ellen Page and Canadians I will cross my fingers and wish them a happy and long marriage. I’m not a baby maniac but would love to see Ellen walking around with their first baby 🙂
Congratulations and Best Wishes to Ellen and Emma! Wonderful news to start 2018
Aww, congrats to them! I’m sure they had a lovely time with their friends and family.
Ellen is 30 and probably knows what she wants but Emma is 22… 😕
Congrats to them! I’ve always liked her, and am glad for her happiness.
They’re really not Canada’s golden couple. I have not even HEARD this mentioned once in Canada anywhere. A lesbian marriage really isn’t that exciting in Canada. Happens all the time and no one cares any more about it than a straight marriage. ALL marriages are lovely so congratulations to them!
Canada’s royal couple is literally the Queen and Prince Phillip. I mean, we HAVE a royal couple. How big a deal is this in Canada? Well, I live in Ottawa and I only read about it on American gossip sites.
Related: Can you imagine how boring a Canadian gossip site would be? Imagine Stuart Maclean instead of Cindy Adams, blathering in trademark CBC cadence into a microphone with a laugh track dating from the 1940’s playing at random moments. He would be talking about curling.
I’m in Ottawa too! And I agree, a Canadian gossip site would be so boring. Unless it was about Schitt’s Creek, I’m into that gossip.
Oooh, now I want that column to exist.
