Childish Gambino – aka Donald Glover – was nominated for five Grammys, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year. He lost all but one – he won a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his hit “Redbone.” I was actually surprised he didn’t perform “Redbone” at the Grammys, considering it’s probably his most well-known song. But he performed “Terrified” and I’m pretty sure he got a lot of ladies pregnant just from the smooth sexiness of this baby-making song.

The child performing with him is JD McCrary, just FYI. McCrary is voicing “young Simba” in the live-action Lion King remake and Glover is voicing the adult Simba. Isn’t this a great song and performance? I love how we just accept that Childish/Donald just wears all of these different hats and no one makes a big deal about it. It’s incredible. That being said, he told reporters at the Grammys that he plans to “retire” the Childish Gambino name and – I guess – record music under his own name.
He wore this Ermenegildo Zegna Couture white suit and what looked like black velvet slippers/loafers. Sexy.

Wasn’t his comedy career super problematic? We just forgot about that?
Why problematic? I heard nothing about that.
His lyrics are super misogynistic, he insulted black women, asian women, asian men, made rape jokes, etc.
my reply to Nivi below also applies here, he’s done what he’s had to, been the token black friend to get in the room, to make the art he wants to make. you don’t have to like him, but you can’t fault his hussle. “woke” (be it racial, gender, even ableness) is not the be all end all. He is visible, and he is currently not only visible but crushing it, in every medium available to him. visibility matters and maybe he’s growing, because Atlanta is phenomenal, and its not pretty or right but sometimes we’ve had to dance for them, so that we can our mark. I hope its changing, I see change on the horizon, but just because social attitudes are starting to change, and juts because #oscarssowhite is not trending this year, doesn’t mean we’re there yet. not even close, visibility matters, and he’s in the room, and he is growing as an artist. let hi grow, let the work speak for itself, you can’t judge a man by the comments of a foolish boy.
He is super problematic.
Selective memory I guess. I’m not into this guy and his talents.
Yes, should we really praising a guy like this??
This ^^ Why does he get a pass?
I’m not excusing racism by any means and I’ve never heard anything about his comedy or anything else that was mentioned. But why is it when a black man talks about another race or do a joke about another race he’s a racist. Black men are discriminated against everyday and I don’t mean some days I mean everyday but no one talks about that and maybe his comedy routine is maybe his reaction to being a black man. Idk just a thought.
Why does his suit look so small on him?
I’ve seen his tv shows, his stand up and his specials, but I had no idea he had such a sweet sexy smooth voice. Like, damn Donald…
He’s also a complete sexist and racist, so we can add that to his talents.
Man I think this guy is fire. And I personally love that he is so friggen talented. Everything he touches is fire. Yes we should accept it but always celebrate it, because damn if success doesn’t look good on him, he makes it look so easy. Everything he does fresh out the gate has been gold
I’m not interested. Has he apologized for his continual dissing of black women yet?
Ugh I am sure we will get a “The strength of black women inspires me” reply.
Spill the tea…some of us don’t know! :O
I think this article actually summarizes all his issues https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://affinitymagazine.us/2016/11/09/why-you-shouldnt-be-supporting-atlanta-or-donald-glover/&ved=2ahUKEwiKx87Vzv3YAhWMOo8KHd7tB50QFjAAegQIDhAB&usg=AOvVaw0Ryl3ykxIA4nnbqWQz7YiU
??? Nivi, what?? omg he makes jokes at other people’s expenses, he has undervalued his blackness to fit in and be successful at times when it benefitted him (not woke for sure, but so what). I live in a white world, I don’t know about you, but any opportunity that I get to see a smart, multi-talented person of my skin colour “make it”, then I am proud. his comedy, his routine, his “schtick” may not be your cup of tea but to say he’s problematic etc,.. I just don’t get.
As far as I know, he is a decent human, who has used his position in life as being the token friend, to garner laughs and an ability to pass in rooms full of white people. that is how you get to make the art you want to make. it’s not perfect, but the system is broken. I truly hope it changing, but “wokeness” is not the only arbiter of value.
Yeah, some of his previous material is really unfortunate. He’s outrageously talented, which makes it more of a shame.
The worst thing is, he portrays the woke persona but never publicaly apologised for all of his previous works which is quite racist ( whole asian women fetishization) and one sketch in particular mocking rape specifically campus rape. Atleast we know alec baldwin is an asshole.
I’d never heard of this guy until I discovered Selah Sue (who anyone outside of Europe has probably never heard of), because he did a song with her called “Together” on her last album. The name “Childish” stuck with me. His voice was ok, her’s is worth discovering if you haven’t. “Fear Nothing” and “I won’t go for more” google for a treat.
Sorry… that was a bit off-topic *sheepish*
lol, I love Selah Sue! Her debut album is sublime, but anyway I prefer Chilidsh as a singer more than as a rapper.
Yeah, the rapper stuff was kind of meh. Selah Sue is fabulous. Sounds just as good live, for the record 🙂
I adore Donald Glover. His show Atlanta is superb. He’s a talented singer. His stints on Community and 30 Rock were great. We need to be talking about just how incredibly talented he truly is !
He has a beautiful voice. I will be checking out his stuff!
The performance before this on the show was Despacito and it was comically insulting with its unnecessary mostly naked dancing women and male gaze centricness. And it was decidedly not sexy. Then this performance came on-everyone was wearing clothes and it was the sexiest performance of the night.
That’s how life in puerto rico is and most of latin countries, that’s what the performance was trying to show. The weather it’s hot so you have to be ¨mostly naked¨and people dance like that. Travel a little.
Bulllshit. Don’t do that. Don’t paint a whole place and it’s people one way so that we can treat women like shit. No one is walking around Puerto Rico wearing a fringe thong bathing suit and dancing as a matter of course.
I did not realize how sexy DG was until I saw him in Magic Mike 2 as the DJ (?)) at Jada’s place. He was sexy as hell in that and sang. He is sexy as hell in this bit from the Grammies. OMG! Dude I need more adult music like this in my life!
weirdo
I think he’d look better if he’d open his eyes.
