Tom Hiddleston looked handsome, gingery & beardy in Seoul, South Korea

I’m not even going to pretend that this is a real story. I can’t even find any quotes or interviews from Tom Hiddleston. This is just a post about the photos. Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland and others were in South Korea for the promotional tour of Avengers: Infinity War. It’s been a while since Tom was on a proper “Marvel promotional tour.” I think he got away with not doing all of the traveling for Thor: Ragnarok because The Largely Absent Hemsworth actually wanted to do the heavy lifting for the promotion, and because Marvel made it about Chris’s bromance with director Taika Waititi.

All of which to say, I’m hoping that Tom really is front and center for this promotional tour, which could go on for weeks. I hope there are so many photos and interviews. I really, really hope Marvel organized a magazine cover for him. He hasn’t been on the cover of a magazine since the somewhat disastrous GQ profile last year. Back then he was clean-shaven and still pained because of The Snake Who Shall Not Be Named. Now Tom is furry and bespeckled. Which I think is an improvement.

Considering his beard is so patchy around the sides, wouldn’t it be better if he just went with a goatee? I don’t mind a goatee, just as long as the goatee isn’t hyper-groomed. Sometimes, they look way too fussy, but I think Tom would look very good with a goatee these days.

  1. Case says:

This is such a good look for him. Long, curly hair, glasses, and a three-piece suit? You’re really doing it for me these days, dude. Though agreed — a goatee would be a bit cleaner since his beard is so patchy.

You know — I’ve had a lot of complicated emotions regarding Tom over the years, and there have been times when I literally couldn’t stand to look at him because of the try-hard, needy, hammy, generally unflattering nonsense he pulls.

But it needs to be said: For as exhausting as I find him at times, he is just so very…good. And that warms my heart. So many disgusting things have come out about men in Hollywood (and everywhere else…ugh) in the past year. And then there’s Tom, who just seems like a kind person. In the wake of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements I remember seeing people ask for positive encounters with celebrities to feel a little bit better about the state of the world, and Tom’s name came up sooo many times because he’s so lovely to everyone he meets. I can’t help but have a fondness for someone like that. Even if they’re overly eager and can’t grow a proper beard.

    • jetlagged says:

@Case, it’s like you are in my head. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

    • jammypants says:

I had a hard time looking at him for a while but it’s gone. I enjoy it again. But to be honest, he’s been pretty chilled, toned down, and non cringe for a good year now. I don’t think he will ever repeat what happened that affected his image in the past. And you’re right, it’s all so harmless in the grand scheme of things.

      • so cool says:

Yes he is too eager, enthusiastic, ambitious, sometimes wanted pleased others too much. But it is ok for me. Because I’m similar. I love what I do, so I can talking about it for hours. I’m too enthusiastic about thinks I love. And I so can understand his need to pleased others (I have the same). So he isn’t perfect, but I will take this imperfection, than some Afleck, Damon guy.

      • jammypants says:

Exactly. The only harm that could come out of his enthusiasm is to himself. And tbh I don’t think he deserves the vitriol. I don’t think it’s worth hurting a career. A personality preference shouldn’t be a dealbreaker for a person’s career. Breaking the law and inflicting lifelong suffering should.

      • Cranberry says:

Yes. I’ve always thought his eagerness and playful antics were just that – all in play. Not that he was trying to be false or be someone he wasn’t. More of him trying to please people and turning his nervousness into a fun, playful energy especially when he was first getting noticed for Loki by fans all over the world. There was a lot of attention on him all of a sudden as a breakout star/character in a relatively new and hot, globally popular US franchise.
It was all new to him, the stardom, the US-block-buster film industry, famous Alist co-stars, Marvel and comic-con fandoms etc. So he played up to it and tried to just have fun and make it as positive as possible. He even said he was just going to enjoy it all while it lasted because at some point he knew it would end.
So yeah I always felt he was being treated unfairly by some that found him an easy target to mock and label his enthusiasm as just being thirsty and that his entire personality was fake.

    • Meggles says:

I agree. I’ve always hated how “thirsty” or “attention seeking” are perceived as being negative things. There’s nothing wrong with it! And I’d take someone genuinely enthusiastic like Tom over all those actors who pretend they’re above fame and snub their fans (while desperately pursuing fame in private, because movie stardom doesn’t happen by accident).

Especially if TH has been down or depressed or in a rut or whatever. There’s a lovely video of him walking out of the airport looking kind of tired or glum and spotting the huge array of fans and breaking into a HUGE smile and just blossoming under the warmth of their attention. It’s sweet, and what’s wrong with that? We’re human and humans are designed to need attention and approval from other humans. I feel like TH is putting good boundaries in place with his more extreme fans and the press (he’s admitted in the past to having poor/no boundaries) but is still genuinely appreciative.

I know I am projecting but when I’m between projects I get very down and apathetic, but going out with friends or doing interviews and stuff really perks me up. Even when I’ve had periods of real clinical depression, and I’m not for a moment suggesting TH has that, I’ve still been able to enjoy certain activities. It’s life, isn’t it? No one is ever just one thing.

      • Case says:

Totally agree with you re: his enthusiasm. While some of his other qualities have certainly grated on me in the past, I’ve always found his overall excitement for life incredibly endearing, especially for the reason you cited — so many actors act so cool and above it all (even though they’re playing the same fame game everyone else is). Tom is unabashedly dorky and earnest and so genuinely enthusiastic about so many things. I admire that.

And to jammypants’s point, he has toned it down significantly when it comes to some of the qualities that used to drive me bonkers (which were honestly always really lovely as far as poor qualities go, lol, but annoyed me nonetheless), which is nice. I’m sure that has come with age and a better understanding of what fame entails. I can’t fault him for struggling with boundaries and such in the beginning — he was young and excited to be living his dream.

He really is one of the most likable actors out there for me, and is very talented, too. I do hope Marvel gives him good exposure this go around since I suspect he’ll be finished after Avengers 4.

      • DB70 says:

I always thought you needed attention to be an actor. Yeah, sometimes people go about getting attention in ways we might not agree with but usually, it’s harmless.

If you are a businessman you have to network and go to social engagements but we call them ambitious. Why is Hiddleston ‘thirsty’ instead of ambitious?

      • jammypants says:

I always thought that too. Why is ambition a bad thing? The term “thirsty” itself implies that it’s not cool to show your ambition. You have to have ambition but pretend not to care? It’s kind of silly.

      • Cranberry says:

        @DB70

I’ve always felt the “thirsty” label was more about those using it trying to come off as cool and snarkedgy (snark + edgy). It seems like it started becoming the word to use to sound like you’re ‘in’ like everyone else. So which ever celebrity would start to get mocked with that label would start having it repeated incessantly. Even posters that didn’t know Tom very well would slur him with it because they just figured it must be true cause everyone else uses a derogatory term to describe him instead of just saying he’s ambitious. It was mean and over board. Imo it is also hurtful to the careers of up in coming, less known actors. But that’s the name of the gossip snark game i guess.

    • so cool says:

100% this. I can’t stand this “oh so cool” celebs, who pretend they don’t care. Oh they care. Now when we see how many as*holes are in HW, people like Tom are such a fresh air in this crazy industry.

    • mags says:

I think he break he took was an intentional disappearance to wash off some of the try-hard stink he got. It seems to have worked and was a smart strategy.

      • Skylark says:

I’m not even a Tom fan as such (that’s to say, I’m not not a fan, just that he’s not someone I follow or think about much unless I come across him on here or on a dog walk) but I couldn’t agree more with Case in the OP about the basic niceness, decency and well-meaningness at the heart of him.

For sure, I had as much fun on here as others did, taking the pee out of him, when he went briefly AWOL, but the backlash from that, and the length of that backlash, was so ridiculously (and maliciously and almost sadistically still to this day) out of proportion to the nature of his ‘crime’.

Hope he and his career are now back on track.

      • so cool says:

Ok Skylark I have one fundamental question and I think all here will understand – How is Puppy – Bobby? You said you saw them – we want some juicy story 🙂

      • Skylark says:

Hee! I’m so sorry @So cool that I have no proper juice to share other than me and Mr Skylark and our friend who lives, more or less, round the corner from where Tom lives, passed by him, all of us minding our own business and walking our separate dogs!

I’ll pay more attention next time I’m round hers in the event that there’s a dog-walking Tom in the area. 🙂

      • so cool says:

Ok Skylark 🙂 Next time – And pay attention to a puppy 🙂

  2. Meg says:

My God, that’s some aggressive balding. He has almost no hair on top. He looks refreshed though

    • Helen says:

I think it’s the peaks at his temples acting up (plus a bad angle). When his hair is this fluffy/bouffant, they’re really noticeable and make it look like his hairline’s making a run for it. If you push the middle bit down just a smidge and run a comb through his hair, it’ll probably look just fine.

  3. koko says:

I didn’t think I would ever feel this way, but I actually miss the dancing bear, sometimes.
He looks good, rested and happy.

  4. jammypants says:

He looks very healthy. He looks fuller, rested, skin glowing, and hair soft. I’m surprised how lovely he’s looking because he looked so gaunt and tired a few months back.

  5. Beth says:

Those curls and scruffy facial hair are so sexy. Add the glasses…wow! Nobody wears a suit better than Tom. What a handsome sweetheart

  6. Booie says:

When’s his next project??? Other than avengers

  7. Jess says:

He’s better looking with a beard as it distracts from his high forehead but generally I don’t find him handsome. He seems nice though.

    • brutalethyl says:

Same. I don’t get all the “OMG he’s so handsome” posts. Maybe people think he’s “nerd handsome.” lol Taylor can have him. Oh, that’s right. She didn’t want him either!

      • mags says:

Judging by the grin he had and the fun he had with his fans on the day the breakup was announced, I think the feeling was mutual – despite the picture he tried to paint otherwise.

  8. Lightpurple says:

We are serving Soju and Bokbunja on the veranda today while my cousin in law prepares us some Korean barbecue.

I’m enjoying the return of LEG’s to South Korea, which gave us the mad chair-upturning dancing the last time around.

    • DB70 says:

I’ll take a double! These are some very good videos and pictures coming out of SK.

I think mature, having fun Tom might be my favorite.

  9. Gabbygirl2 says:

Hemsworth knows that Hiddleston made the Loki character a major force in the Thor trilogy. Loki became more popular than Thor and hence if Hemsworth and Hiddleston appeared together, Loki would have gotten more applause and attention. Chris knows that he is at a major turning point in his career. After both Infinity War movies are over, Hemsworth career might be over.

    • Ceire says:

It’s a conspiracy against Tom. Hemsworth is behind it. If it’s not Hemsworth, it’s Swift. No wait, it’s jealous people. Actually, it’s bitter journalists who cannot comprehend the stratospheric talent that is Hiddleston. No, it’s Hemsworth. Yeah, definitely Hemsworth.

    • so cool says:

Well Chris is now doing what he can to bust his career. Last few weeks we have daily photos of him, wife, kids on vacation with M. Damon. Every day new photos on DM. Why I think it was Elsa idea? And sorry, but I like Chris less, after he is now such BF with Damon. Really Chris?

      • jetlagged says:

Right? I used to think Chris/Elsa were angling to be seen with A-list Damon, now after the year Matt has had I wonder if Damon is angling to be seen with nice guy Chris. Or maybe they really are good friends and I’m just jaded and bitter.

One of my favorite tweets of the year was Jenelle Riley’s take on Damon’s cameo in Thor Ragnarok, “At least he got to be in one hit movie this year”
        https://twitter.com/jenelleriley/status/944024322665889792

      • so cool says:

I love Jenelle. And this tweet is so on point 🙂
And she has few lovely interviews with Hiddles.

    • Cranberry says:

I don’t understand where this is coming from, but Hemsworth has always been the bigger star at least outside of the Marvel universe. That’s ok. It’s predictable. He fits the stereotype for strong, alpha male, rugged leading man. That’s just the way it is, and he is good at those roles. It’s a natural fit for him, and he’s done very well with it establishing himself as a Alist actor. The level of fame and success he’s achieved is not going to diminish once he stops doing Thor. He’s a decent actor, sexy and is ambitious to expand into other roles much like Russel Crow’s career.

      • mamasita says:

Hemsworth always was the weakest part of the Tor’s franchise. He’s bland and can’t act to safe his own life.

      • Cranberry says:

I compared him to Russel Crow because I think he’d love to be the next RC. Not that he’s as good an actor as RC. He’s still mostly the ‘strong man’ lead. He still comes off very favorable as the hero, but RC has been able to play more complex characters that are also heroic and rugged. Maybe because RC’s never been as much of the sexy jock type like Hemsworth but more of rebel, working class guy.
Still Hemmy has done very well establishing himself as an international Alister. He’s got time to develop and cross over to more complex roles. I’m sure he’ll get several more cracks at it.

  10. ValiantlyVarnished says:

    Still a thirst trap.

    • jetlagged says:

Geez, compared to whomst exactly? He’s been all but invisible for the last year, aside from a little contractually-obligated film promotion.

      • jammypants says:

I think once an opinion of someone is formed, even if they’re just eating crackers or doing their job, they’ll still be the “worst person ever” lol

    • jammypants says:

Anyone in the biz is. Some just pretend they’re not eager or thirsty. Hiddles lets his flag fly freely lol

      • Cranberry says:

        Exactly !

He just lets everything show imo. Some used to say he was fake, but you can tell when someone is being fake. They wouldn’t enjoy it as much.

      • jammypants says:

Yea, I never understood it when people say he’s fake. I’m like, nope that’s just really him. Always has been lol. I noticed this label only came about after “that summer”.

      • Cranberry says:

“That summer” we shall NOT discuss !

        🙂

      • jammypants says:

Haha I’m sure he wants it to go away forever too.

      • Case says:

I think people thought he was fake partially because he’s just such a Disney prince-level of charming, lol. It’s sad, but an be difficult to trust people who are the total package of smart, talented, kind, and attractive. They certainly exist, but we’re always waiting for the other shoe to drop to reveal that they’re secretly a jerk. It’s fascinating and unfortunate.

      • DB70 says:

I didn’t even know who he was during ‘that summer’ but I had an 11-year old that gave me a daily blow by blow. I was tired of hearing his name by August attached to ‘whyyyyy does she get to date all the famous guys’ Fun times.

    • Cranberry says:

So easy to mock isn’t it. It’s the easiest thing in the world to call an actor thirsty. Omg, that’s earth shattering! I guess it’s true. No matter what he does he’ll still be mocked for something even if he’s done nothing to warrant it.

  11. betsyh says:

There’s an old youtube video of tom riding a rocking horse and yelling “I’m a cowboy! I’m a cowboy!” that makes me laugh every time i think of it.

  12. mags says:

So many people are wondering if Loki dies in this film. I’m hoping he made it to the other film before biting the dust. I do think Loki does die, just not sure which film.

  13. Ninette says:

I am loving this promo tour. Tom looks great. Love the suits and the hair. Though I wish he would shave the beard. And he seems very happy and confident and comfortable. I don’t know what he’s been doing the last year, but it seems to have done him well. Also I don’t get this fixation on Loki dying. No, no, no I don’t want Loki to die. Of course I don’t, I love the character and I see no need for him to die. Tom still, it seems, enjoys playing the character and being the part of the marvel universe. The audience still loves Loki and there’s still so many stories to tell. Loki is a god for infinity.

    • DB70 says:

Looking at him in the SK suits I can say I know he has definitely been doing leg day for the past year. For that, I thank him from the bottom of my heart.

  14. Case says:

I wonder why these actors don’t coordinate what type of clothes they plan to wear to these promotional events? In the top picture, Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch look so casual compared to Tom. And Tom pulls off casual attire rather well. Would’ve been nice if they all had a similar vibe. I know if I’m going to an event where proper dress is up in the air, I’ll ask my colleagues/friends what they’re planning to wear.

  15. Jeannine says:

I think it has been good to not actually HEAR from him. I would like to see more of him (he is always so easy on the eyes) and not hear much talk from him. It always seems to take away from his more serious acting work. For a really nice vid, there is the one where the stylist from GQ is selecting ties and such while they chat about which accents she can use to order tea or coffee in the morning. He seems absolutely charming and sweet. She gets to smooth out the lapels of his blazers against his chest. Lucky girl…

    • Case says:

Oh my god, yes — that GQ video is really charming and cute. Actually, hearing from him in general has been very nice these days — he is a bit more subdued on the Dancing Bear front and has given a few nice interviews for Thor 3, Early Man and now Avengers in the past several months. I’ve been charmed by him in every context I’ve seen him in recently, which is how he pulled me back into the fold, lol.

    • Cranberry says:

Oh yes, he’s very charming in that vid. Love it.

That’s the way to win over a woman’s heart. It’s not just about looks. It’s also about charm, humor and playfulness.
      🙂

  16. Cranberry says:

    Where’s the veranda?

These new sexy Tommy photos are perfect for savoring on the veranda with few Comet Sophies.
    Yum Yum

    • DB70 says:

The video clips have been great. Running his hands through the hair, stroking the beard…. He’s also been quite funny but not so hyper as before.

      Drinks all around!

  17. virginfangirl says:

I am simply gaga for Hiddleston. His looks made me give him a second glance, but his charm, intelligence, passion for life, playfulness, & most of all kindness is addicting. And my my, he does look dreamy in these new pics.

  18. maxine ducamp says:

There is a gif of him running his hands through his tousled waves and I just…
