Meghan Markle surprised the world by choosing a designer no one was expect: Clare Waight Keller, a British designer who recently became the first female artistic director for the House of Givenchy. Literally no one thought Meghan would chose a French fashion house for her wedding gown, even though it’s a British designer. It’s a beautiful design though – so simple, such clean lines. The flattering boatneck design is amazing. Harry told her that too: “You look amazing,” he told her.
The Queen loaned Meghan a tiara: the Queen Mary diamond bandeau, which was made in 1932. Everything looks really beautiful, but right now the dress is being overshadowed by how Harry and Meghan are looking at each other and their connection. It’s amazing. This is an amazing wedding.

Absolutely gorgeous and they really do love each – they way they look at each other was swoon worthy.
I loved the way they kept looking at each other, holding hands. During “Stand By Me”, Harry was caressing her finger with her engagement ring… I’m sure he was thinking of his mom being there with them. Very sweet moment.
And when they saw each other, when she walked to him down the aisle… oh man… 😊
Ugh I know it’s so cute!
So much love, so much emotion! Loved her dress and tiara, and he looked so handsome (and smitten). I adored every minute of the ceremony, but I think cried through most of it. It was literally like a storybook wedding.
I may be totally wrong, but looked to me like she WASN’T wearing her engagement ring during the ceremony. Although it looks like she put it on during the cello performance, because I saw something large and shiny on her finger on their way down the aisle at the end.
@nat I spotted it on her right ring finger during the ceremony!
Nat, it was on her right hand all along. I saw it on her in the car.
@imqrious2, can I just say -you were right! You totally called it! You said boatneck/bateau neckline, long sleeves and so it was!
And I was right too! She TOTALLY looked like Princess Angela of Liechtenstein, same silhouette (fit and flare), same neckline (bateau), sleeve length, lack of adornment, similar tiara and a shared elegance!
love love love!
Soooo fab.
Thank you, Elaine…you remembered lol <<>>
She looked exquisite, just glowing with happiness and love, as was Harry. It was such an enjoyable thing to see 😊.
Even though I didn’t cross time zones for this wedding (just stayed awake for 40 hrs straight! lol), I am feeling such a letdown down… it’s over!! After all the months of looking forward to the wedding, it’s over! OH NOOO.. lol
Now, on to Tuesday’s Garden Party! Wonder what she’ll wear to that??
@Elaine and @imqrious2
The dress was perfect and Meghan looked absolutely wonderful. Thank you for drawing my attention to Princess Angela of Liechtenstein, yes the dresses are very similar.
Yeah, I’m not into monarchy and I hate a lot of traditions around weddings, but I am a fan of love, and it really seems so genuine between them. Even my cynical ole self had a pang of ‘Awww’ watching that.
Meg’s favorite wedding dress is Caroline Kennedy’s lingerie styled ‘slip dress’.
I had a bad feeling..
The first pic I see is Meg’s, under the veil in what appears to be a white box. The veil added width giving that illusion.
It gets worse.
Who, in their right mind, would wear heavy silk that wrinkles with every move?
It gets worse.
Whoever ‘fit’ Meg’s for this monstrosity needs to be fired. Immediately. The seamstress needs to be fired. Who, in their right mind, suggest or ‘allows’ a boxy top for a small breasted woman? The ‘designer’ is fired! The mess-of-a-dress is very poorly constructed.
It gets worse.
“Designer ‘OriginaI”? I am a movie fanatic, NOTHING gets by me.. where have I seen this dress?? I promise you this dress is a modern version of a Disney classic: Cinderella. One can see it as she runs down the stairs. The unmistakable outline.
And there IS a Prince Charming…
Did you get it all out?
Some people ride the broom stick, others stuff it…
“I promise you this dress is a modern version of a Disney classic: Cinderella. One can see it as she runs down the stairs. The unmistakable outline.
And there IS a Prince Charming…”
Yes, exactly. If this isn’t a fairy tale with, I hope a real life HEA then what? That shot of the rolls Royce driving up to the church with ALLL the people waving made me tear up as it was a pretty epic moment in many ways. I find that the fact that the favorite Prince of our stuffy previous owners marrying a biracial, divorced American actress and being so in love with seeming support from his stuffy family to be heart-warming and enchanting. And the dress was perfect: clean, elegant, classic with a modern nod to medieval lines.
Hopping off my soap box now.
The dress was perfect because she carried it perfectly. The styling was perfect. The scenery was perfect. I personally can criticize this whole thing to help and back, but only because of personal and crowd expectations. And this was not mine or theres. It was hers. Hers in a ceremony that had to be both for the people and something to showcase herself within the guidelines.
I’ll side eye anyone who doesn’t see that and accept it as flawless.
I agree Eden, that dress is sooo boring and overwhelming on her small frame. People have pointed out that this is wedding #2 so she didn’t want to do the princess thing but girl…this was the one opportunity to go all out. #Davidsbridalsale
So much agreement. All of the love was wonderful and always adds to beauty.
Nope. Underwhelmed. She didn’t “bring it”.
Not at all..
I agree…extremely underwhelmed…that is a fug dress.
Totally underwhelmed. ITA. She still looks beautiful though.
Same. Like most things Meghan, it’s … fine. The dress needed something—a belt, an amazing brooch on one side or in the center. The dress is boring and could be from David’s Bridal, not a French fashion house.
The tiara is fantastic and the veil is lovely, and I like the idea of a simple dress with the dramatic veil but it needed more.
Completely agree with Muffy. Maybe it’s because it was so hyped up that our expectations were too high? But I was not impressed. Hopefully the wardrobe change later will be wow factor.
The dress is very plain and boring. She’s naturally gorgeous so she still looked like a vision. The most beautiful thing she wore today was the look-of-love on her face. And the tiara…..
I was totally underwhelmed by the dress. She looked gorgeous overall, but I was expecting so much more for her gown. Glad to see I’m not the only one!
I’m in this camp: boring dress! I expected something more visually interesting. BUT… while underwhelmed by the dress I was blown away by the wedding! Better that than the other way around, right?
Ok I thought it was just me. It’s a nice well constructed dress. And that’s it. Also, I know her hair is supposed to be loose etc but it’s a bit too undone for my taste. I feel like her nee layers aren’t staying as tightly as they should.
Would have loved to see a blingy belt or SOMETHING. It’s gorgeous, but is it Royal wedding?
Do we think she will change later?
Oh I’m sure she has another dress, easy to dance in, for the evening reception. There’s a few hrs. downtime between parties. Plenty of time to relax and get dressed for the dinner at 8.
i think i would have loved it if the fit was better. the fabric and sleeves are so heavy. i need more waist, less fabric.
That was the issue for me too. I love the idea of it.
That was it for me. The fabric seemed too heavy. I love the silhouette and style of the dress, just not the execution of it in the top part.
Still, that’s a minor quibble, because I think she looked elegant and beautiful. She was glowing. She is a stunning bride.
Me too, in theory I like the design but the execution not so much. It needed to be sleek at the waist and arms. I like the natural makeup but her hair looked like gym hai. Great tiara though and veil.
Agreed. If the fit was better or was different material, it would look sensational on her frame. But it looks too bulky and wrinkly.
Same. I wonder if the fit was off because Meghan lost a ton of weight right before her wedding. Remember, the Thomas Markle drama happened the WEEK before her big day.
I also wonder if she aimed to be modest/not make a big splash so she wouldn’t upstage Kate (the future Queen) and also because she’s 36 and has been married before. Selfishly, I wish she had brought “it,” etiquette and decorum be damned.
I think the opposite. I love her dress and think she looks beautiful. But I am a fan of simple, clean lines. I love it
Same here. I love the sillouhette of the dress, the simplicity. I think she looked gorgeous (but I might’ve used a *bit* more hairspray to keep those strays in place, at least for the ceremony).
Me too. I was hoping for something classic and understated and she didn’t disappoint.
Me too Snowflake – this is the kind of bridal dress I like the most! I’d have loved it even more if the train/veil were shorter, but I understand this is a cathedral/royal wedding 😉
Agreed. I love the simple modernity of her choice. It works so well with her beauty. The tiara choice was perfect as well.
Same. That gown is flawless and she looked amazing. Folks wanting her to have feathers and sequins like a Vegas show girl.
I, too, love the simplicity. My favorite is still Crown Princess Victoria, which this reminds me of — no fussy, fug doily laces. No cheap rhinestones or fake bling. No Disney princess nonsense. She looks elegant, like true wealth and not bourgeois tackiness.
Me too. The lines of the dress are so simple it has a medieval vibe.
Chiming into agree. Meghan is so beautiful, she needed no embellishment. The dress was perfect.
I love the gown on her. I think that it is perfect for her style and even her age. Not covered with beads and lace. I think the veil in front of her face is silly. She isn’t a first time bride, and I feel for her ex-husband, who must be bewildered by all this first time bride stuff.
I LOVE the tiara she chose, but her hair is messy. Fire whoever did her hair.
Isn’t Givenchy French?? I am surprised that she didn’t pick an English designer. Would have been smart, good PR, since this wedding seems like a big PR push for the royals.
The label is french, but the designer is english.
Also, most of these labels are french these days including McQueen which was folded into a french fashion conglomerate in the early 00s.
I agree. A frou frou style wouldn’t have worked and would have clashed with the tiara.
Her ex-husband doesn’t care. His only interest is in seeing whether he can cash in.
She’s British and the first female director at Givenchy. Surprise choice but supporting one of the most successful female UK designers.
Exactly my husband and I said the same it was lovely but you have an entire courture house I feel as if I have seen this before a little beading on the top would be nice. Anyway they look happy. Also the Bishop from the US I am sure that played well in the US but England isn’t a religious country. My husband turned to cycling😳.
Nope…I’m in the US and thought that preacher was a hot mess. As did many of my American friends.
I think she just needed an art deco broach on the dress. That would have been perfect. P.S
Royal wedding and touseled hair just don’t go together.
I think a plain dress can work (Victoria and Mette Marit) but fit and construction have to be perfect.
This is neither. Bulky on her body in places, and the seams aren’t perfect and rippling. And without anything visually interesting there is nothing to save it.
It shouldn’t be that hard to dress this lovely girl with a great figure. I like the idea but not the execution.
Absolutely, the dress is not fitted to her properly. It’s almost as if she lost weight after her final fitting and it was not re-tailored. Look at the bodice—as she moves, the fabric bends and twists, billowing up. The seaming needed to be tightened up and since the fabric is so heavy, it can’t compensate.
The dress was ok, shoulders were nice. Should have had SOME beading, jewels… something! And for God’s sake she has every tailor at her disposal why in the world didn’t they alter it to fit better after she apparently lost weight? It just looked like a sack in a lot of places. Still, she was gorgeous and the overall effect was really nice.
Reminds me of princess Victoria’s dress. But she had a spectacular cameo tiara to be the spotlight.
Totally underwhelmed, too. I was so disappointed when she stepped out of the car. Meghan could have worn the most fabulous wedding dress ever (the Ralph and Russo that seemed to be in the running was awesome) but chose this plain frock. I also did not like the long veil train over the short dress train. It seems that she did better for her engagement photos than the actual wedding. However, despite my disappointment in the dress, she looked beautiful.
I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT MEGHAN’S LOOK. It was simple, clean and elegant. Even her makeup was natural and clean. I love it all. Well done.
Hear, hear!
Me too. The whole thing just worked perfectly. She looks awesome.
Yeah I think we’re in the minority here but other than its impeccable tailoring, I find nothing outstanding about this dress.
Impeccable tailoring?? It hung on her! They should have fitted it better. And she should have padded her chest the way Pippa padded her bottom. Just a little, not too much. The chest fit was bad. As was the waist.
She probably wanted a simple, more understated dress because this wasn’t her first wedding.
Couldn’t agree more. That dress was fug. Too plain, underwhelming, didn’t fit properly, the bodice was bulky, lumpy, and wrinkled, and only emphasized her lack of any figure or shape. The bodice need to be smoother, more fitted. Some embroidery or other detail and a better fit would have made the dress amazing. Hair was a mess as usual. Wisps were tucked behind her ears and left hanging, deliberately, no doubt, so she could untuck them and have her ubiquitous “tendrils” as soon as they were outside the church. I saw a lot of real emotion from Harry and a lot of acting from Meghan. Why does she always seem so fake, phony, and insincere to me, even on her wedding day?
She’s not a show pony or a Vegas show girl. The gown was perfect and perfect on her.
The dress itself was simplicity in a sea of unnecessary fabric and textures associated with royal weddings. I’m a fan of the look. Like Carolyn bessette. Not a fan of the dress, but was perfect for the situation and surroundings. And perfect for the wearer
Nope. LOOOOVE this. Love it.
It helps of course that this has always been my plan for my someday wedding gown. I forgive Megs for stealing it however. Because she looked fab.
Sigh. So fab.
+ 1000
Didn’t care for the dress. It looked like a polyester sack.
It is Queen Mary’s Filigree Tiara, not the Diamond Bandeau.
it looks so good on meghan. the queen chose it for her though, right?
CNN said that Meghan got to choose it.
i need to see it move. i need the veil out of the way. so far i’m a little underwhelmed. and her hair is driving me crazy! it looks a hot mess. get the whisps off the face and off the neck! it’s distracting. the dress seems too big. but she looks lovely and happy and that’s all that matters.
oh, and the minister is on fire!
He took those people to church. Not sure the royals are used to some good ole’ time religion like that!!!!!!!!!!
Girl they were not ready. As a southerner, this is how church always is. But the Brits were clearly like um, what is this?
Go over to twitter and watch some reactions of the royal family to the preacher. They were pretty bemused!!
Noticed this too!
Their faces were rude. I was offended.
Agree. Beatrice and Eugenie were smirking.
Yeah I thought they could have turned on that famous British reserve. Smirking was rude and revealed the ugly underneath.
I was offended too. They were juvenile and rude. No excuse,
Agree. Imagine the Queen smirking! Never happen! Wills and Kate better get their game faces on. One smirk is a diplomatic incident when you’re the Head of State.
@Veronica T please, please, please post a link. I was in a meeting whole day and didn’t get a chance to watch this; you’d so make my day!
Love the neckline and the overall look…a few issues with the fit.
It’s always the fit with her. I think she lost weight and they didn’t have time to take it in again.
Agreed. She looked so much thinner yesterday with her mom…who is so adorable!
That is an explanation for the bad fit. But I have to say, she’s in good compony, to my mind, most royal wedding dresses do fit surprisingly poorly – given the occasion and the possibilites of the fashion houses. It’s very often so that only a part of the dress seems to fit perfectly, but the rest is lacking. And this are occasions where I expect to see the best such a fashion house can deliver from any camera angle, not just while standing or moving or from front.
Agreed re: the fit. Beautiful shape and neckline, but the arms needed to be taken in.
Yes, I am absolutely into the style, but the sleeves/armpits are baggy.
I thought that as well! loved it but it was slightly baggy and I wonder if she lost even more weight with this family bs that impacted the gown’s alterations?
Adored the veil and stylings!
I absolutely love it. Simple, understated and elegant. She looks so beautiful.
From what I’ve seen, I love it, too! Can’t wait to see a full length photo from the front. But it looks great to me.
This. I love the understated elegance of it. Wonderful.
I adore the dress. So elegant.
I love the dress and the whole look! It’s super elegant, simple but sophisticated. Beautiful tiara/veil/hair combo. I have a slight issue with the hair – the stylist should have used more spray to fix it. Otherwise perfect.
Yes, I really like it too! The entire wedding feels like it’s a very personal event, not just pageantry. And Meghan is a natural at the whole thing.
His face! Her mother’s face! I’m not crying, you’re crying. What a lovely simple dress – she looks amazing – love it!
No, I’m crying
At the end of the day, it’s not about the dress. It’s about the love on their faces.
😭
Yeah that was one boring dress and details. Even looks bigger on her from top
Meghan looks stunning. I envisioned her in a sleek gown because it is befitting of her style.
Not liking the loose fit. But appreciating the clean lines though.
She’s gorgeous, and the love is so evident. Take that, everyone who said she was in it for the title and money.
I love that her dress is so simple. It suits her, and lets the veil and tiara shine.
Exactly! It shows off her beautiful face and the tiara. Kate had too much going on (I liked her dress but not the hair/veil/makeup with it – she should have had an updo and more natural makeup)
Actually I thought Kate was perfect, gorgeous, dreamy, totally princess, her dress was simple with beautiful and interesting details, her makeup was on point and her hair perfection with the veil tucked behind the veil, she was perfection.
This, is far from it, and the disappointment comes from that Meghan is a beautiful woman, her makeup was really nice but the dress and hair, plain at best.
I also really likd Kate’s dress, it was so well cut, it really displayed McQueens qualitys and skills. Despite being to tuned down for McQueen.
Kate’s makeup was horrible. She did it herself and you could tell.
She’s perfect. Natural and luminous. She doesn’t have that fake wedding look with overdone makeup and hair. And the dress is classic and elegantl. And Jesus, these two are really in love. The way they look at each other….
Agreed.
+100000!
But what was up with the Queen?? She couldn’t even spare them a smile when they were walking past on the way out!
Showing emotion in public is not the Queen’s style.
Right!
I know! I don’t see how people can say she’s fake and doesn’t love him. It is evident how in love they are with each other.
Well she is actress so even though she always has the perfect smile is hard to know what she is thinking. Not that there is a reason to think she isn’t in love.
“Luminous” is a perfect description! I loved how natural she looked while still being elegant. And clearly, Harry agreed.
Ohhhh nooooo!! C’mon Megs, this is soo disappointing 🙁
Its simple, with clean lines which is great but this is just way too simple.
What did you expect, an enormous poufy gown like Diana had?
Unlike a lot of brides, Meghan is wearing the dress instead of the dress wearing her.
Something less simple. There are options in between of too simple and too pouffy.
In her defense it was 1981 we have all committed crimes against fashion following trends
There is a multitude of options between the diana monstrosity and this. They are like opposites ends of the same spectrum.
I was honestly expecting better but its her dress, her choice. But this wont be a dress that will be remembered 50 yrs from now
Nope, that dress wore Megan… She was lost amongst all that fabric.. Truly disappointing dress
The dress looks like Queen Slivia wedding dress. And Silvia didn’t look good too.
I see celebitchy is split. I love the boatneck but overall disappointing. It was boring and dare i say it – badly fitted. Definitely this dress won’t make history.
I completely disagree. This is the first royal dress I’ve seen that isn’t a dowdy, over embellished mess. Kate’s dress was hideous as was Diana’s.
And Meghan went to the trouble of having hand sewn flowers added to her veil to represent every one of the commonwealth countries. She put a great deal of thought into this dress as opposed to Kate’s which really was something a disney princess would have worn.
Kate’s dress wasn’t bad. Diana’s dress, though… she looked like she was drowning in a mountain of whipped cream.
In fairness Kate’s dress had hand sewn national flowers of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. As the future Queen consort that made sense.
wow really for each of the commonwealth countries? that’s so dope.
Arrrghhh not the fricking commonwealth again!! The royals are really, really pushing this nonsense, arent they?!
Flowers to represent the British isles is more than enough. This isnt Meg’s fault, its was probably the palace’s idea.
Blutfan, do you mean British royals? Since this is very similar to princess Victoria’s dress.
I suggest you google Crown Princess Victoria and Crown Princess Mette Marit if you want to see simple but impeccable Royal wedding gowns. The fact is Meghan looks blah. The basic shape is nice, however it’s terribly tailored, the fabric is too heavy and bulky, and it really needed something like a belt. The entire look is disappointing.
Totally agree. Simplicity is elegance and she looked like a real princess, more so than any other before her.
Looking at Meghan’s dress makes me appreciate CP Victoria of Sweden’s dress and entire look so much more. She looked incredible, the fit and tailoring were outstanding. Meghan looked pretty but the dress was lacking in many ways.
Mrs. Bump, The Queen appointed Harry (and now Meghan, as his wife) as her representative(s) of the Commonwealth Youth. Having the flowers sewn into the veil was a brilliant way to bring that in.
wow it’s all so beautiful. I’m crying too.
I did anticipate the boatneck but not the plainness of it. Nonetheless she let that tiara shine and I teared up when she walked down the aisle herself and with Charles. The looks on Doria and Harry were priceless. Happy blessed and long marriage to them. Let’s celebrate! She is so beautiful nonetheless. I did not anticipate crying!
A cynical old goat, I didn’t expect to cry either! I absolutely enjoyed their wedding.
Absolutely STUNNING. The dress, makeup, veil, tiara was amazing. She was glowing and the look of pure love on their faces was beautiful to witness. I lost it when the choir sang Stand By Me. Such a wonderful display of love and most of all, diversity. After everything her so called family put her through, Meghan deserved this. Pure beauty.
She really looked stunning I’m shook! Clearly her dress is secondary to me at least.
Absolutely. I don’t know how Meghan kept it together. I cried during my own wedding! I’d be a blubbering mess up there.
She looks amazing! Nailed it.
This is the dress that SHE wanted and I think it’s stunning and perfect.
Exactly, this is the dress Meghan wanted. She loved it and Harry did as well from his reaction. Nothing else matters.
Doria and the Queen match???? could this get any better
Most boring Royal wedding dress for me! It only looks beautiful overall because Meghan is wearing it.
Damn I had so much expectations.
I am sorry but this dress is not cutting it for me. The shoulder cut is beautiful. The tiara, the veil and train are beautiful but the body of the dress is just so underwhelming.
I think part of that is that she has lost so much weight from all the family stresses that the dress looked too big and the bodice was baggy. She still looked gorgeous, and the looks they exchanged made me cry. When she joined him at the altar he said, “You look amazing. I missed you.” (Referring to the fact that they had to spend the night before the wedding apart.)
I’m so glad it wasn”t Stella boring designs McCartney.
I like the dress
I agree. I hate McCartney’s designs. I don’t think the problem was the dress so much as all the weight she has lost since her disgusting grifter family started publicly making her life hell. But she still looked gorgeous.
Her Mother looks amazing.
She does.
Someone fix her train.
The handling of the train was bad. But I guess that’s what you get when the average age of the bridal party was 3 years old. Her dress designer should have hovered and kept it straight. Gad, even the jessica mullroney chick with her octomon inflated lips had to step in and make sure it snaked around the corner when they went out to sign the registry.
I bitched. I was annoyed. I cared. I didn’t care. I REALLY didn’t care. But in the end… this was very, very sweet. The love is on their faces, especially Harry’s. Congrats to them.
I like the dress because it is that I wanted for her a a pristine white dress simple but very elegant. But I am very disappointed by the hairstyle and makeup
Yes, they could have done so much more with her beautiful hair and a bit of lip color would have better suited the simple dress.
Agreed, she needed a little more make-up. Not kate level, but a bit more.
Gorgeous, elegant, Givenchy of Audrey Hepburn days. No poofs, frills, or girly elements just simple and classic. So happy there is no lace on the dress but on the veil instead (flowers of Commonwealth nations). Reminds me of Queen Maxima and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece’s gowns, with a hint of CP Victoria in the boatneck too. And she managed those steps fine by herself, so much for me being worried. Doria lovely and emotional.
Yes! Divine, the perfect choice!! And Doria so beautiful.
There is sincere emotion throughout today and a sort of fresh air lightness too. Love it all.
Thank You! This dress is similar to modern royal brides. I don’t know what people expected. In fact her dress is fancier than I expected as I thought she wouldn’t have a train. I knew it would be simple and classic with clean lines. Was no one looking at her style the last few months? This dress is so her.
Agreed, this isn’t an episode for Say Yes to The Dress with Monte Rae. This dress was perfect for a ROYAL wedding.
This.
Loved it.
ITA – am not getting the hate for the dress, I loved it classic, vintage and simple look and lines. They really are in love, they could not stop touching and looking at each other. The ceremony itself was great, different and i love the gospel elements. The Rev Curry was the star, thou us Brits didn’t know quite to take that kind of passionate preaching – I can see why church attendance in the US is high, it seems like an engaging experience. The Brit experience is dull and boring. It was a young, modern and diverse wedding.
The new Duke and Duchess of Sussex are really going to bring new life to the Monarchy – i feel they will be the new stars.
Doria looked great and overwhelmed by the whole occasion – am glad that Chuck seems to have taken her under his wing.
He surprised me with his warmth and his kindness to Doria. He held her hand as he walked her out after the ceremony, Chuck came through. For once.
Thank god the silly father wasn’t there. I don’t think he is actually the full quid.
Agreed. Timeless. Very Jackie O. She is beautiful. The dress will wear well. It will never feel dated. 20, 30, 40 years from now.
I don’t like how it looks/executed around her bust area, during the vows on video it looked really Project Runaway.
Something about the bust was not cleanly fitted.
Agree. It seemed to bunch up a little. Not a great dress. What was going on with the hair?
So true.
This was my issue as well. It’s a beautiful dress and I looooove the train and long veil, but the fitting killed it. It looked like it was draped on her. Better tailoring and it would have been perfect. Oh and the tiara!! Omg I loved it. Looked amazing with the veil!
Am I the only one who wishes she knew Doria,Megan’s mother? So classy, dignified and regal??
I agree, she looked very elegant and beautiful. I kind of feel sorry for her though. She’s kind of out there by herself you know?
Doria looked almost isolated. Would it have been a crime to have her sit in the same row as the rest of the A list royals?
The lost weight. The dress was clearly fitted to her before the Markle family explosion began. Stress weight loss..
I thought it was quite cruel to make Doria sit all alone like that. She looked so overcome it broke my heart. What a lovely person she seems to be.
Would it have caused the walls of the church to fall down if she’d been seated alongside Charles, Camilla, and Kate?
Same. She had to carry the whole Bride’s family and friends section by herself. Was there a cousin or niece there though?
Doria should have attended with a plus 1. She automatically looked isolated on her own. You shouldn’t have to attend your daughters wedding han solo.
Me too!, wish I knew her. I hope Charles and William will kindly make her feel at home, or Camilla, but I think her heart is so full today all she will care about is her daughter. ❤️💕
She looks like she would give very good advice. Supportive but no-nonsense.
Doria looked lovely. I wish I had been there to give her a hug and a hankie.
Whaaaaat!? I can’t believe there are so many people who love this! I think it’s awful – so boring, and yet somehow swallows her up. It looks too big and doesn’t flatter her figure at all, in my opinion. I was disappointed.
For real. £130k for that bit of nonsense. The veil and tiara were lovely and that’s it. But her face is a dream though. She was glowing.
The $130K price tag was dreamed up by the Daily Fail for her Ralph and Russo gown.
Yeah,
It doesn’t have to be exaggerated, but that was a basic, boring, dress.
I
She looks beautiful in spite of the dress. Sorry, but come on Givenchy! That fit is not good. If you go simpme and clean, the fit needs to be 100%. It looks wrinkled already.
Who’s the lady in blue behind her? Honey, you’re on international TV. At least pretend to sing along.
Yeah, the fit has to be impeccable on a dress that simple, and it’s not.
I bet she lost more weight this week due to the stress and antics of her trashy family and maybe that’s why the fit wasn’t right.
Totally agree with you on fit of the dress. Sleeves were too big, baggy around bust and waist. Overall look was not impressive at all.
Lady in blue is her BFF/stylist – Jessica Mulroney.
I wonder how much the stylist had a hand in this look. Because now her hair is falling apart. She is such a beautiful woman but man, this looks a little like amateur hour.
Have to say, her Suits colleagues pretty much look the best out of the guests I’ve seen. Gina Torres looks BOMB.
@littlemissnaughty: I’ve noticed her hair always falls apart whenever she puts it up. I wish they would pin/spray it down better. She always has these strands of hair that go rogue and she has to tuck them behind her ears. I read somewhere that she used Amal’s hairstylist for her wedding.
@Really, don’t you see — those loose strands are deliberate, not her hairdresser’s fault. They could easily be sprayed or pinned up, but she craves those loose strands hanging around her face. They were deliberately left loose and tucked behind her ears so she could untuck them as soon as she got out of the church for the kiss shots. It’s pretty obvious to me. It’s her latest “look.” It would be okay most of the time (if she could just keep her hands out of her hair), but it’s a terrible look for a wedding day.
The dress could have been stunning, agree the fit made it less flattering and underwhelming.
The woman in that royal blue was her bestie, Jessica Mulrooney.
The lady in Blue is her stylist and friend, Jessica Mulroney. Her husband is Ben Mulroney, an E-Talk show host, and her father-in-law is a former Prime Minister of Canada. Two of their children were in the wedding party. The son was missing front teeth and holding the train.
I think Meghan has a beautiful face but that dress and her hair really didn’t do it for me.
I preferred Kate’s wedding dress /look over Meghan’s. Speaking of Kate…where are the photos of her?!
But Kate was marrying the man who will be king. Her gown was that of someone who will one day be the queen consort. (I think I’m using the right term) Yes, it was a very fitting and beautiful gown for the occasion.
I think Meghan, having been married before and almost 37, wore the perfect gown, a very classic, sophisticated look, perfect for a formal wedding, but a second marriage for her. My only problem was I think the top half was not fit properly or the material too heavy or something. The design of the gown as far as simple and classic was a good move. It just could have been a bit better executed. I think she was a beautiful and elegant bride, though.
Every single bride will have varying comments about their gown. Some love it,. Some don’t. Some love it with a minor critique. That would be me. I love the idea of her gown, but the top could have been better executed. The material seemed too heavy. But maybe in person I would feel different. Photos and/or videos usually don’t capture the beauty of many wedding gowns.
Kate’s dress was hideous. It looked like a cross between a disney princess dress and a mother of the bride dress. But, Kate always looks dowdy. Even today. She is just a dud fashion and personality wise.
C’mon!! Give her a break! The woman just had a baby THREE WEEKS AGO! She looked lovely, if a bit “pale” in that yellow.
Totally agree. I like Kate but she’s dowdy. Always.
I like the dress, just wondered for more than 5 minutes about it’s colour, but I think it was a good idea to do a repeat, she was not taking away attention that way.
Kate’s dress was fine, too much lace for my taste but she does love her lace.
Kate’s dress was a knock off of Isabella Orsini’s and a poor woman’s Grace Kelly dress. While it may have taken hours to do the embroidery, it was lost on the big day and some of the placement only added to the bad Gaultier cone bodice look.
Kate wore a dress she has worn twice before. Harper’s Bazaar said it was the dress she wore to Charlotte’s christening. I think it was not a good sign that she couldn’t be bothered to get a new dress for Meghan and Harry’s wedding. Yes, she didn’t know what size she would be now, but the woman has the world at her fingertips, and everyone else had a new dress.
I don’t see these two as best pals at all. Kate had a puss face on most of the day, as did the Queen. Perhaps this week has just exhausted them all.
Kate most likely wore a repeat to not steal thunder from Meghan’s day (though I was surprised she was wearing cream). Had she worn some new dress people would have been talking about what Kate wore and how dare she try to upstage Meghan. I even expected her to wear something she had worn before (though I was praying it wouldn’t be the dress she wore to Pippa’s wedding that was so fug). This outfit was appropriate. Nothing groundbreaking and keeping the spotlight on Meghan.
TQ was showing her normal resting face – thou I think they were all trying to get the Rev Curry’s sermon, its not the normal type of sermon for them.
She looks beautiful and classic. A bride with her beauty doesn’t need froufrou.
Agree.

I honestly never cared much for dresses & jewels. So what the dress looks like isn’t a big deal to me
But the way Harry looks at Meghan <3 that made the wedding for me. That is love.
This….that love look…..that is all I needed to see to call this a perfect wedding.
But cheers to that tiara choice and the young cello player.
Completely agree with you both! This is what a wedding is *really* about: the two people involved, in love… Just beautiful.
Meghan and Harry make a handsome couple. I am very happy for them. 💒
So disappointed by the dress. I would not mind the cut. But the fabric looks so heavy almost like a winter dress. And it is fitted bizarrely around her arms and bust. Almost makes her look puffy. Which should be impossible. Veil and Tiara and hair and make up are beautiful though. They both just look glowing. Love how nervous Harry looked.
The dress looks better full length than close up..
Someone should have in the back room to pin up her hair, jeez. I don’t know.
Straight up falling apart on the carriage ride. I know we’re supposed to be focused on love and marriage and all that, but it’s a royal wedding and she deserves better than an ill-fitting dress and hair that’s coming loose.
The hair really bugs me. Always falls apart whenever she puts it up. You see loose strands in her face in the pics of them kissing outside of the church.
I am very irritated with her hair falling out. Bobby pins are not in short supply, and even two would’ve secured the too-casual wisps. You’re in a gorgeous tiara for goodness sake! Get your hair game together! There is no excuse for that, not for an established Hollywood actress who knows how hairstyles need to work for events.
Ugh i hate the dress! It looks like she’s been wrapped in a sheet! Plus the fit is so bad it’s making the very petit and skinny Meghan look 6 months pregnant. She’s so pretty anyway luckily but she needs to get better designs for her frame, she looks like she’s drowning in everything and like all things she wears are really designed for a 5’10 woman
More like a mattress cover.
Ill fitted, frumpy, wrinkled, and thick. I’d rate it at the top of Worst Wedding Dresses That Cost More Than A House.
I was appalled when she dragged down the aisle in that thing.
Super disappointed with the dress! At the altar it looked wrinkled and heavy, and apologies, but — I had hoped for SOME glamour! I just feel like this dress does nothing for Meghan’s beauty, and the hair was an absolute mess. More and more strands kept falling out as the ceremony went on! But maybe this is what Meghan wanted; to not create a “boom” fashion moment? It just felt like a wasted opportunity to me…
Lovely!!
Disappointed in the dress , IMO Kate’s was much better elegant and timeless Princess Diana’s dress was the thing at the time but it didn’t age well (looking back it was typical what were they thinking 80’s moment LOL)
Anyhoo the way they look at each other totally makes up for it,You cant fake that body language affectation adoration. Will and Kate seemed like an Old married couple at their wedding, you could see they cared for each other but no glow. Diana looked like a naive young girl and Prince Charles looked like he was just performing his royal duties.
There is genuine happiness and glow about Harry and Meghan and I wish them all the Best !
i like megan”s dress and had thought kate’s was fug. but then i am a fan of clean lines and not all the old lady lace Kate wore. kate’s makeup with the harsh black eyeliner was fug. i like megan’s softer clean look.
That’s how I feel as well. Kate also puts so much hair spray in her hair that it reminds me of a 50s housewife. She has helmet hair. I totally prefer Meghan’s natural up-do.
Except Meghan’s hair style never stays as an up do, within 10 minutes multiple strands are wisping around her face and she’s constantly tucking them behind her ears. Is she allergic to hair spray? For your wedding day, a hair style that doesn’t look like she just rolled out of bed would be refreshing.
“Princess Diana’s dress was the thing at the time but it didn’t age well (looking back it was typical what were they thinking 80′s moment LOL)”
I can tell you exactly what “they were thinking” (even very young teenagers): “What the HELL is that?!”, feeling embarrassed for her. Of course the magazines didn’t express it, but that dress was like a huge elephant in the room. It looked every bit as puerile and even “dated” as it does now. It was not “the time” – it was Diana’s taste at the time.
After seeing this dress close up it’s one of the worst wedding dresses. Badly fitted, so loose, so plain yet stiff. The saving grace is tiara and veil but come on Meghan ane Givenchy it’s simply not a flattering dress. I enjoy seeing dresses of the guests much more
It’s straight up David’s bridal.
I thought a different material could be chosen like off white, or champagne to offset the simple design. But it was bedsheet white and boring structure. All ugg.
I woke up right now and yawned how did the dress look?!! And now I’m going back to sleep…what a snooze fest. Yes she looked nice, she’s a pretty woman but blah that dress is so boring and the tiara even with the diamonds is so lackluster. Sigh…oh well and is that a low bun?!!!?
The only good thing were the veil and tiara. That dress was so boring and her hair is horrible it looks like her stylist just did another messy bun with all those stray hairs she has flying around.
I hope her evening gown will be better than this.
The dress and ceremony perfection. Even blah people at a party I am attending had moist eyes. Such love. ❤️❤️ What a beautiful day it is too. Hugs to all fellow Celebitches.
It was perfect, down to the twins carrying her train up the steps. Great photo. And Prince Philip, without any help or canes, made it to the wedding!
I think she looked gorgeous. Total elegance.
I like the dress and the dramatic vail.
I LOVE this dress! She looks so regal.
The most gorgeous amazing wedding dress I’ve ever seen. The first formal wedding dress I’ve seen that isn’t some tired and frankly childish princess/Barbie dress. This is a dress for a woman. A woman with incredible modern style. Unbelievable. Just love it and I love the fabric.
I agree 1000%. Modern, elegant, beautiful, just like her. I woke up and saw her walking down the aisle and misted up because she looked so beautiful!! Then Harry, smiled and looked at her–priceless!!
I love it. Simple and clean – a little too loose. And her freckles! She didn’t airbrush them away. Lovely!
As a biracial woman with a few of my own – she wore her European ethnic heritage with pride! 😉
She should find another hairdresser. She has beautiful hair, she could have done so much better with her hair. Her hair looked amazing on Thursday an Friday.
Her makeup was beautiful.
Agree. The center part almost drove me batty.
Center parts looks too harsh. Side part would’ve been softer.
She used Amal Clooney’s hairdresser. Should have found her own.
OMG, her dress looks almost exactly like the one I got married in 10 years ago! I actually guessed that she would go with something simple and with a boatneck, so I’m quite pleased with myself 🙂 🙂
That was a beautiful wedding, but her dress was incredibly boring and disappointing, and like most of her clothes it didn’t fit right. My prom dresses back in the 90’s from Macy’s were prettier and had more detail than Meghans dress. Even the tiara was boring. I was really expecting something better, but if that’s what she was happy with, that’s her choice,it’s her wedding
The tiara was boring? Well.
She looks radiant, but that dress looks like a tennis shoe. The fit isn’t great, the skirt is too narrow, the neckline is ever too slightly wide and rounded. Fabric looks beautiful and I like the tiara she was lent, but her hair is too undone. Underwhelmed.
I like Doria’s hat and top half (I can’t find a full length image) and Posh’s vermillion shoes. Otherwise this is one of the most underwhelming royal weddings.
This was her second wedding; understated is appropriate.
It was his first. And a royal wedding at Windsor isn’t “understated” in any shape, way, or form. It’s a disappointing dress.
Kates dress was boring, meghans was ok, diana still gets the award for worst dress. The tiara was everything though. Harry’s face was so emotional, just love it. It was a beautiful wedding. Windsor was definitely the best place imo. Not as big as Westminster but it has more character and is the perfect backdrop for a wedding.
I love the dress. This is her second wedding, so I’m not surprised she went for something simple and classic.
I’m on the fence with the dress, the hair and tiara. The dress could have fit better. As with the dress and ceremony, I am on the fence between nice and lackluster. I am happy for them tho.
I do like that as a 36 year old woman that she walked her independent self down the aisle.
some of you are nitpicky and annoying lol. She’s a royal bride, honestly what were people expecting her to wear ? Do you know what other royal dresses look like ? She looked beautiful and like a bride . All the best to them.
I liked the idea of the dress with its simplicity but like many others don’t like the execution. It’s too big and doesn’t flatter her body to me. I know she probably lost weight but lots of brides do and somehow last minute adjustments are made for them. (Kate’s dress was also poorly fitted up top to me.) I’m not sure what rules brides in the royal family have to follow that are so restrictive– so far as I know it’s pretty much just wear sleeves, no daring cleavage, and wear a gown not a trouser suit. So dowdy isn’t required.
Kate’s dress had boob cones… so yeah not properly fitted either. I didn’t hate Kate’s dress, but I just like Meghan’s style and this dress was elegant, classic and showcased the tiara. Women will be copying this look in years to come.
I like how you said the execution. That was it. An elegant dress but poor execution. The tiara and hair style did not support the dress. Plus, the dress needed to be fitted just a wee bit more. All
Could have worked but it didn’t because of small things.
A better fit dress? That rounded boatneck just reads tennis shoe to me.
Beautiful fabric though.
I loved it when Harry mouthed to her, “I am so lucky!” Cue the tears!
Liked the boatneck but it just didn’t seem to fit; looked too big/bulky around the chest area. Can we not make it a competition between her and Kate? They both looked lovely.
If this counts as boring then I would be quite happy with looking boring everyday ! 🙂
She definitely got the best tiara of the bunch. I think this is first time I have tiara envy. It is just spectacular and even though it is really old, it looked modern on Meghan. I’d love to know how the tiara gets chosen for these weddings. Does the queen open the vault and let the bride-to-be pick one out or does the queen select it herself?
And watching the carriage ride you can really see the difference between Harry/Meghan and William/Kate. Harry/Meghan have so much charisma and joy for life. It really is too bad that Harry’s the spare because he is going to end up the more popular of the two by far.
actually the “spares” are always the most popular. As a future king Harry will be a catastrophe.
Why should a man who founded his own charity under 20 and served not only his country but still manages to get worldwide recognitionfor wounded soldiers and verterans (that will never be a sexy topic btw) be a catastrophic king? His brother has yet to deliever anything comparable and honestly he won’t because he couldn’t care less about his job.
Wounded veterans need better housing, better healthcare (both mental and physical) and better job opportunities. None of that is achieved with a pseudo-Olympics. The Invictus Games, like the Paralympics and the Special Olympics before them, are pageantry not politics. When you’ve lost both your legs in combat and suffer from PTSD, taking part in a javelining competition isn’t actually going to make your life any better.
There’s no such thing as a royal “job”. Royals aren’t politicians and they’re not charity workers. They’re glorified reality TV celebs.
“There’s no such thing as a royal “job”. Royals aren’t politicians and they’re not charity workers. They’re glorified reality TV celebs.”
Agree, but the difference is they aren’t supposed to get caught having trashy behavior, they have to be ” representation”
I thought the actual material of the dress was gorgeous. I like a clean look. Just my opinion but maybe if the veil had more detail it would have been a bit better. I am glad that she wore something simple and not some crazy Ralph and Russo translucent feathered over the top gown.
I know people will likely cringe but whoever did her hair should have used a translucent hairnet or something to keep her hair from falling down. This is a royal wedding, not one on a beach somewhere.
As for the couple, yes, it is very obvious he really loves her. Her mother is adorable and it was very touching when she was crying tears of joy.
I was a little taken back by the looks on the faces of the other royals. Some of them looked annoyed. I am wondering if what took place this week and the negative attention it brought caused some kind of issue.
Interestingly enough I thought the men looked like they were enjoying the wedding. Charles, Prince Phillip and even sourpuss William seemed in great spirits. The women in the family looked constipated the whole wedding though which I thought was in poor form. They know enough to put on a good front and they supposedly adore Harry so there was no excuse for their attitude IMO.
I got the impression that Zarah Tindall was highly uncomfortable due to something pregnancy related. In some pictures she looked as if she was struggling to find a comfortable position.
For the rest of the women, hmm, I didn’t really see them being annoyed. If so, than it would be a bad sign, because men oversee so much more when it comes to interactions familywise that women don’t accept.
Maybe that was it. I noticed the women not really smiling much. Maybe I am just overthinking it.
Also, just a side note for those commenting on the fit of the dress, that fabric was to die for but it is also known for being stiff and heavy. It also does not wrinkle easily. I thought it was a very lovely gown. I think a heavily embellished dress would not have been right for this setting.
Zara Tindall is heavily pregnant and sitting in those pews for any length of time is going to be very uncomfortable for anyone.
There was a cute moment during the run-up where Mike and Zara are standing in front of their seats, and he’s cuddling her bump with both hands.
Beatrice’s smirk was the worst.
Initial reactions
I’m mostly here for the kids.
Damn, Doria is a good looking woman.
2018 goals ladies -find yourself a man that looks at you like Harry.
Harry looked positively besotted. I’ve never seen a groom look so happy.
I did–mine! But Harry looked utterly in love as well. Well done.
Beautiful dress. Simple and clean. Too much ornamentation tends to hide flaws in the dress or the bride’s body. No need.
Her makeup natural and glowing. No caked on foundation aging her. Her face showed illuminating and clean skin.
I think some people are so used to a blow-up doll with an overly-made closet. She looked good because that’s her personality.
So lovely. I cried. Perfect.
I think she had to go simple, as ppl are giving her tough life for being married before. A dramatic Disney dress like Kate’s might have been problematic for public opinion. It’s very “her” and clean, but I wish it was better fitted and more glamorous. She is swallowed by the sheet of heavy fabric and it does nothing for her. The positive thing – she very much looks like herself which is nice and her face is gorgeous as always.
In an interview Meghan said that her all time fave wedding dress was Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s so it’s no surprise that Meghan chose a design that was sophisticated but very simple. I was disappointed though because I was hoping for something more “princessy”. I mean…ho hum. And her sloppy hair, oh my. Her stylist did her a wrong. That tiara and veil was on point though.
Well CBK would have cancelled the wedding rather than walk down the aisle in Meghan’s dress, and no offense to Meghan, but clearly she doesn’t know anything about CBK. I read CBK literally told Narciso Rodriguez she wanted to look naked haha. She wanted a very sexy slinky dress. I understand this is a royal wedding and there is a pretty strict covered up decorum, but there was nothing nothing sexy about Meghan’s dress. It was practically a long sleeved turtleneck and a loose one at that. I’m not a designer so I’m not sure what the options are as far as fit, cut or embellishments but this dress was not a CBK wedding dress!
There’s no point in comparing Meghan’s dress to Kate’s. They are different women. Meghan is almost ten years older than Kate was back then, she’s been married before, had a career and lots of life experience. Tons of lace and a voluminous princess skirt wouldn’t have suited her. The cleaner lines and simplicity works well on a grown, sophisticated woman. She radiates confidence and inner peace, and doesn’t need a dramatic gown to be memorable.
While I agree that the fit is somewhat lacking, I’m not sure a lighter material would necessarily be a good idea. She’s getting married in a grandiose, medieval church, the dress material needs to reflect that. There needs to be some weight to the fabric. I’m also on the fence regarding the hair, in one way I wish it was all kept away from her face and in a higher bun (to show off that great neck and bone structure), but on the other hand I put the hairstyle down to her California roots and a more carefree personality.
I don’t think people have a problem with the simplicity of the dress and, actually,Kate’s dress wasn’t overdesigned either. It doesn’t fit her well. That’s the point.
I love the elegance of the dress but the fabric looked too heavy and I hoped for something not as plain. The fit was off but I’m not surprised if she lost weight in the past week.
Then again a lot of things in this wedding seemed understated.
It’s almost 2020 folks. Can we please start to leave the narrow minded Disney definied idea of who a princess is. And what a ‘princess’ dress looks like behind us and live in the present twenty first century .
Her dress was incredibly elegant and regal. Simplicity is not boring, stereotypes and doing what is expected is.
Yes!!!!! One thing I’d improve is her hair but otherwise she looked perfect. I can’t stand heavily beaded, frilly dresses.
The dress did not fit. Every bride, royal or not, should have a dress that fits on her wedding day. This is not Project Runaway.
The fit looked fine to me. Dresses, especially wedding dresses, do not need to be skin tight. That was part of the problem with CP Mary’s dress. It was too tight and not properly lined. The sleeves and bodice were so tight on Mary’s, the designer put in accordion folds under the arms so she could raise her arms to wave.
Agreed. Think about everything Meghan had to do in that dress. Get in and out of a vintage automobile. Navigate a steep set of stone stairs into the chapel – without help. Walk, sit, stand and kneel during the ceremony. Get into a horse-drawn carriage. Wave continuously for many minutes. If the dress had been tailored too closely to her body, any or all of those things would have been impossible – or seam-busting. Better to have it a little loose so it hangs properly when she’s walking up and down the aisle. It was a beautiful dress, made from exquisite fabric. No bling needed.
I love this dress for its simple elegance. CLASS. Chic and it leaves all the old fashioned lace frou frou in the dust. This is the anti-Kate. Just as I loved Crown Princess Victoria’s dress and Charlene of Monaco’s dress.
I’m fine with simplicity, but the execution kind of sucks and I hate a skirt so slim. Just a little more oomph away from the hips. Kate’s did the same thing, as did Pippa’s. They’re just so slim the skirt just falls, and if it’s not a column and not meant to fall, then it’s not well fitted.
Aaaah CB I was shaking and crying too… such a wonderful moment for inclusivity and empowerment for women.
Can we all be thankful for the lack of cone boobs? Can we also say that this bride was wearing a dress that didn’t wear her?
Yes! Too often the dress wears the bride. This one is her style, classic, and suited to the event.
Why’s everyone so over the moon about Meghan and Harry looking like they love each other? Of course, they do, they’re getting married! People who get married tend to do so because they’re in love. That’s the rule, not the exception. Aside from Charles who looked quite miserable on his first wedding day and Charlene of Monaco who had a “weird” moment, don’t all couples, royal or not, look in love on their wedding day?
Beautiful. Wishing them all the best.
May they inspire, be inspired, and use their positions of immense privilege, power and access to make lasting differences in people’s lives and the planet. Too many of the world’s exploitative, greedy, filthy rich cause more harm than good, never heeding these words: “For of those to whom much is given, much is required.” I hope the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have fun and enjoy the satisfaction of using their gifts for good. Also looking forward to the day the ugly-American Markle relatives finally STFU or the media stop throwing attention and $$$ at them.
Mmm guys what do you think about Kate recycling her look? Poor form :/ just watched a few vids from the ceremony and she was never looking at the couple even in the more dramatic parts like vow exchange… I sensed a weird dynamic…
I thought her coat looked familiar…but at least she didn’t pull an Amal and try to be a show stopper (Amal is realllly tacky!).
It will be interesting see the dynamic play out between the 2 merry wives of Windsor!!
I agree about Amal. The exaggerated, hip-swinging strut was so bad! She did a burlesque stripper walk & it isn’t attractive. Save that for home alone with George, not for someone else’s wedding. Maybe she was working it for the TV cameras? Tasteless.
Yeah I don’t think there’s a great bond or chemistry there. I just feel like Kate is the kind of woman who never makes friends with other women who might be seen as competitors. Unlike Meghan, she has never been seen with a group of girlfriends or even people that she didn’t meet through William. Her social life seems very restricted to her immediate family (William, the kids, the Middletons) and that’s it. When Harry was single, she used to be very animated around him, but not after Meghan came along.
Regarding the repeat, that might just be because she’s just given birth and not lost the baby weight. Maybe she had something made for the occasion, but it turned out to be too tight and so she went with something that fit properly from her closet.
Well it wouldn’t be the first set of sister-in-laws who didn’t get along! How many of us can relate to that??? Family is weird. It throws you together with people you probably would have never been “friends” with…sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Nor did Kate acknowledge the other 3 mothers on the steps with the other kids ion the bridal party. Terrible form.
I loved the tiara. I got my wish in seeing a tiara that hadn’t been seen in decades. The dress was fine but nothing about it really grabbed my attention. I don’t see the dress as being a memorable one unfortunately.
That tiara was beautiful!
From the neck up, beautiful, I’m not a fan of the dress…it doesn’t look like it fit properly.
That shot from the back tho…breathtaking!
That dress was dull and boring. And it did not even fit! I guess she was giving us David bridal $99 sale wedding gown realness with that choice. And don’t get me started with that messy hair!
Like the idea, hate the execution. Hard to believe Givenchy did that, the top part does not fit, the botton part was wrinky five minute into the ceremony.
It’s a testament of how naturally pretty Meghan is that I tought she still looked good because that dress was a mess. I wonder how it’s going to look like in official pictures.
Underwhelming. She’s beautiful of course, and I like clear lines too. But the execution was just bad. As others have said,it just doesn’t fit her well and the fabric looks too heavy.
Her dress was beautiful, classic and the veil was gorgeous. What stood out for me was the bride’s enchanting smile. I felt for her poor Mum. She’s a beautiful graceful woman but ‘Royal Protocol’ made her sit alone and isolated. I would have felt terrible.
The tiara and the veil brought the drama.
I love the design of the dress, made her look really tall, but as many have pointed out the fit was off. I also love to discover more on dresses as you see them close up, but I feel that this dress in its simplicity will not have any surprises like embroidery on the train or similar.
I am now excited for the second dress. I think that will be more Hollywood and party!
Seriously. That was a classic, clean, simple, elegant dress. Much better than trendy dresses. For what it’s worth, I didn’t mind Kate’s wedding dress but thought Pippa’s bridesmaid dress would have made a better wedding dress. Not every woman loves lace, frills, and bling.
Considering the occasion, the venue, and the fact that the Duchess of Sussex has been married before I think the dress was perfect.
Yes, the dress was lovely in its simplicity, and she looked great in it. But, um, I have to say I was underwhelmed. I’m a seamstress. *I* could have made that dress. There are patterns. I was hoping for something with a little more *something*. If that simple design had been in a lighter fabric or lace…sigh.
The headpiece was gorgeous.
All that snipping aside, I wish them both the very best!! Congratulations!
This.
And to your larger point – “this” to what matters, too. They look very much in love. The rest is meaningless (though I certainly enjoy the meaningless!)
Megan is beautiful and i loved the veil but the dress was meh. It didn’t fit her and the fabric looked heavy. I was expecting something more glamorous! This looks like Davids Bridal not high fashion.
As for Kate, she just gave birth. Doubt she was able to get something new and fitted with her body still changing so much. She probably wanted something she felt comfortable in.
If Meghan is happy with her wedding dress and hair in her face, more power to her.
Regardless if Meghan’s dress was perfect, people would find something to criticized, it’s the mature of the best.
After the week Meghan had, the weather was great, so someone was smiling on the couple today.
Tonight, she can let her hair down, and have a blast at the dinner.
IMO she played it safe within her personal preferences. She seems to prefer classic, simple lines. She would have been criticized if the dress was perceived as trying too hard or trying to compete with Kate’s dress and avoided this. I would have liked it to be more fitted, I liked the tiara and veil, she looks glowing and lovely. I wish them happiness.
I love it! it is elegant and understated. Fitting for a royal wedding, but not for one in the direct line of throne. Also this is her second wedding, something too flashy may not have sat well with a lot of people.
Her makeup, dress, hair and the tiara are all perfect.
Givenchy is very unexpected and I like that too.
They looked very happy and in love. Even I, who has posted several negative stuff and may yet post more, have become emotional. May they be happy together.
Her dress not fitting almost make me forget that her hair was not great either. Please, no more central part, they do not suit anyone. And use spray or pins.
The idea of the dress is perfect, but the fit is so awful it makes me wonder if this was a back-up dress that was never actually tailored for her.
To be clear, it’s not that it’s not more closely fitted. Loose is fine. Could be very elegant. This isn’t that though, this is just a bad fit. It’s loose in the areas it shouldn’t be, tight in the areas you’d expect it to be looser, and the seams are just painful to look at.
Omg 😭😭😭 I never knew I could be so happy for people I’ll never meet! Harry is my age so I grew up with a little school girl crush. Seeing him happy and in love warms my heart. The moment he lifted the veil and said wow. My heart melted! Who cares about the dress and what everyone’s wearing, you can tell their love is real and seeing that can make anyone swoon. I’m so happy for them and I wish them the best! I can’t wait to see how beautiful their kids will be!
The dress was beautiful and elegant. Most beautiful of all? Harry and Meghan’s faces. The look of love.
Tiara, veil and dress were lovely. Her hair was a mess. Carol Middleton wore my favourite of today. I was reminded of Harry’s face when he followed his mothers casket. I’m sure his thoughts were with her today wishing she was there. MMs mom looked adorable and emotional. Over all it was a lovely wedding.
Loved the whole thing! Gorgeous. Beautiful blue skies, the soaring St. George’s, the dress so classic and modern at the same time, loved the clean lines, the bracelet sleeve, understated elegance, the tiara was glittering, took my breath away when I got a good look at it. The earrings and bracelet were perfect. She kept it all rich but quiet so what we really noticed was her. The little children were darling, the guests all looked great. The American preacher was fantastic. Bet that church has never echoed a sermon like that before. He was wonderful. The way Harry and Meghan look at each other makes me swoon. They’re so in love. Made getting up at 4:30 a.m. all worth it.
I’m a completely jaded and I must say even I was moved watching that. Very very sweet
The dress didn’t fit perfectly but I loved the clean look & the pink veil is genius. Kept it from looking like she was playing virgin bride-first wedding. Minimal jewelry, the bracelet was dynamite & I love that tiara. It’s subtle & fit the occasion.
Best dressed guest was Earl Spencer’s wife, in purple. It was perfectly fitted & accessorized.
The York sisters need a stylist.
Doria was lovely & dignified. I wish one or 2 of Meg’s single girlfriends had been able to sit with her. She looked so alone even though Charles was attentive & considerate.
Given: its her her day to feel beautiful as she chooses, but I was soooo disappointed with her dress! I feel like it must look lovely in person, but just doesn’t photograph well? It reminded me of the clothes in Handmaiden’s Tale 🙁
I don’t understand why people don’t like her hair…it looks very polished to me. But I always think her updos look nice. I thi k the tendrils look purposeful and soften the look, not sloppy.
Clean and simple is fine, but then it needs to fit perfectly. I didn’t. I also find the fabric too heavy. I guess the idea was to have it all understated, but starting with this dress, the flowers, her makeup and hair, and even the wedding cake all have this element of unprofessionalism about it. I love the idea, but not the execution. Her mother looked very good, so did the Queen.
It is not unprofessional. I love understated. Not everything has to look perfect, perfect. I chose to have my dress custom made. It was also simple (29 years ago). I don’t remember if people thought it was amazing -but it was modern and different. I loved it. Not everyone wants a Cinderella ball gown, especially in their thirties. I think she lost weight this week from aggravation and agree it could have fit better.
I love that her hair is not perfect. She had the premier hairstylist from the US do her hair Serge Normant. Her makeup artist was from Dior. I don’t see that as unprofessional. Maybe you used the wrong word in your statement. She had the top people working on her look you make it sound like she had the wrong people helping her and she does not know the right people to go to.
In summary it was a spectacular wedding and the couple looked thrilled.
Seems that many of the commenters are unfamiliar with late 60’s early 70’s British fashion. Boxy thick fabric was the look. Eugenie was also channeling that time. They got it spot on. The past few decades with their emphasis on body con dressing have skewed our eye. To think that a French couture house does not know how to fit a dress the way they want it to look is pretty ludicrous. She looked wonderful. The dress fit the way it was intended. Don’t like the style? That’s okay, it was pretty radical in the 60’s, too. Spot on, in my view. A modern nod to Carnaby Street and the beautiful boxy styles that came out of France at the same time.
Meghan looked lovely and so did her Mum.
Not all dresses need to be skin tight, especially wedding dresses but somebody please, fix the train!
I loved the way it moved in the sun, there was something so insanely beautiful and sumptuous about the fabric (satin?). The sleeves seemed a bit baggy. Perfect choice of Tiara! LOVED the neckline. But not a fan of the huge veil, it took over.
Wow! Split down the middle here.
I for one thought she looked exquisite. She WORE the dress instead of the other way around. Meghan looked comfortable, elegant AND gorgeous. Im;possible to pull that off at such a extravaganza event.
Saw photos of all four gowns: Meghan, Kate,Diana, the Queens. Meghan has by far the nicest most elegant gown and train of them all. Hands down. The Queen is a close second.
I wasn’t a fan of the wedding dress, which I posted to above. BUT, I will say that in seeing pictures as they leave the church they looked like perfection. I was very floored.
And I also loved the tiara. It looked perfect on her. I still can’t get over how great that piece looked on her.
Gown -One of my older cousins got married in the 70s and her dress was identical to MM’s. Her mother made it from a Simplicity pattern and it fit beautifully. Designer gown? You got taken.
Tiara – Queen E: “Lend her the ugliest one in the collection”.
Hair- She looked like Morticia Addams. A little poof wouldn’t have hurt. It would have improved the look of that nothing tiara, and of course, a bobby pin.
Makeup- Great inventions – lipstick, blush
Loving looks – His are real- straight from his little head. Hers? She’s an actress. She can look whatever the scene calls for.
Royal family pusses – How happy should they be? She’s divorced, older than he is, from another country, from another religion (did you know she had a Jewish wedding for her other husband?) a z-list actress with nude photos out there, from a nutty family and of another race. Yes, just what they all wanted. And why would anyone think Diana would be happy with this match? What mother wants her son to marry beneath him? She was a Spencer-Churchill, probably the most aristocratic family in all of the UK and he’s a prince. She would have wanted better for him.
One last thought – criticizing MM doesn’t make you a racist. But bending over backwards to find everything she does wonderful does.
This.
I love you.
I loved, loved, loved Meghan’s look for the wedding. Her dress was simple, clean and beautiful, while her tiara looked elegant. I agree with some who said she probably wanted a modest dress because it’s not her first marriage, which is very considerate. I loved her minimalist make up as I’m not a fan of overdone looks.
The dress was underwhelming and plain. Very disappointing for such an occasion. It didn’t need to be a poofy blingy mess but it really was lacking in originality and wasn’t special. However her veil was stunning. The dress was a huge miss. This wedding will go down in history books and she wears forgettable badly tailored gown. And her hair was a mess.
That being said the genuine love and emotion was sweet. Can’t hate on the royal family for making faces during the preacher speech—it can be shocking if you’re used to very different sermons and church things. I think a lot of people felt he was over the top and goofy. I did, and I’m american.
Dress was beautiful but was not tailored well. Neckline & sleeves noticeably baggy & ill fitting. She’s too thin & small chested to pull off a boat neck in that fabric. That piece of hair in her face was driving me crazy. Do they not have bobby pins in the UK? Secure that hair under the veil & tiara.
She obviously wanted to go with a minimalist classic look, but I’m sorry, that dress was truly awful. I see some folks trying to defend it, but no. It was so bulky and heavy, shapeless, and dull. Just awful and a huge disappointment fashion wise. I really liked the Stella McCartney evening dress she wore, looked fabulous on her, much better made and beautiful.
