The Tony Awards were held on Sunday night. We did some coverage on Monday, but we were hampered by the site going down for something like five hours, so you might have missed those stories. If that’s the case, go here for a pretty easy primer. Robert DeNiro attended the Tonys as a presenter, and when he walked on stage, he said to the audience: “I’m going to say one thing, F–k Trump. It’s no longer ‘down with Trump’. It’s f–k Trump.” The entire thing got beeped, but DeNiro got a standing ovation and wild cheers from the audience. I mean… of course he did. It’s not like DeNiro said that at an NRA meeting. He said it at the Tonys!
Anyway, that happened and it’s been happening for a while: DeNiro absolutely loathes Donald Trump and DeNiro talks sh-t about Trump at any and every opportunity. Maybe DeNiro was hoping that one day, Trump would say something to or about him so that DeNiro could really go OFF. If that’s the case, DeNiro should be pretty happy, because Emperor Baby Fists used his tiny little fingers to tweet out this insult:

Note: these were not the original tweets. He deleted the original tweets because in the midst of calling DeNiro a “very Low IQ individual,” Baby Fists wrote that DeNiro received “to many shots to the head.” Low IG Bigly doesn’t know the difference between “to” and “too.” As for “Wake up Punchy” – that’s also what he says to his baby fist when he wants to eat more cheeseburgers in bed. And only the truly low-IQ people capitalize “low” for no real reason. “Low IQ” is not a formal noun. It’s not someone’s name, like Punchy. And how far back in the tragicomic insult bin did Baby Fists have to dig to come up with… DeNiro got punched in the face a lot when he was filming Raging Bull? It sounds like jealousy on Baby Fists’ part – DeNiro is King of New York in ways that Trump will never be. Also: how sad is it that Trump taped the Tonys and then watched it a day later, presumably on the plane coming back from Singapore?
PS… I’m reminded of Eminem’s interview with Vulture last December, where he talked about why HE was talking so much sh-t about Trump these days, and how he was really hoping that Trump would end up attacking him in tweets: “It’s not so much about him hearing something I have to say, because there’s nothing I’m saying about him on Revival that he doesn’t already know about himself. It’s more that I want him to answer me because I got ideas for all kinds of sh-t to say back to him if he does. I’m not going to give any away now, but I’ve got lines ready if he says something about me. I get almost flustered thinking about him — that’s how angry he makes me.” I think that’s probably how DeNiro sees it too. DeNiro has been storing up a lot of sh-t to say for the day when Trump finally tweeted about him. Prepare yourselves.

Eh, I used to think that way but as littlemissnaughty said, there’s no way to win. DeNiro doesn’t have anything to lose, either, by saying F Trump. So I think it’s fine that he said it.
What’s pathetic is that Trump feels the need to respond. As “leader of the free world” who just met with a murderous regime, you’d think he’d be thinking about other things. But no, petty beefs with actors are as important to him as peace on the Korean peninsula. More so, I’d argue, because I don’t think he even gives a sh$t about N Korea.
I’d bring unemployed Carrier workers on stage, workers whose jobs Trump made a big deal about saving only to watch that job evaporate less than a year later. I’d go right for the heartland and never stop talking about all of his broken promises to the middle class.
Donald Trump said he was the voice of the forgotten man so I’d introduce all the people Donald Trump forgot about. I’d work to make Trump’s middle class victims into celebrities. I’d be introducing people who lost their health insurance, their homes, their jobs. I’d introduce farmers and factory workers and small business owners hurt by the tariffs etc.
Trump’s only real skill is marketing so I’d go after him with marketing. Michael Avenatti has done a great job using that tactic. It’s more productive than just yelling F bombs at the camera.
Please be involved in the democrat’s campaign in 2020.
And working poor people. I had a client tell me just the other day that he’s worried that with the steel tariffs, he’ll be laid off. He knows he’s going to lose out on overtime.
His family is in one of those tiny groups where they make too much to qualify for any type of assistance but not enough to live on, and losing overtime is going to sink them. I’d also be willing to wager he and his wife voted for Trump (just based on demographics), and he’s regretting it now. Let the people who voted him into office speak about what he’s cost them.
Conservatives don’t actually care about language, the same way they don’t actually care about women and minorities. The only people you have to really worry about are faux liberals who equate a curse word with a corrupt administration literally dehumanizing swatches of the population to push an agenda. If Trump supporters haven’t changed their minds at this point, they can’t be saved. Stop worrying about them. Worry about everyone else.

In lots of schools now, students can earn more than a 4.00 GPA depending on their participation in gifted programs, dual college credit courses and advanced placement classes, so maybe all of these “3.95” superstars are graduating from programs where the valedictorian has a 6.00 GPA or something. Or they’re all liars. But yeah, they’re stable geniuses just like their erstwhile orange dictator.
Maybe they were all homeschooled. My husband had a colleague who bragged and bragged about being high school valedictorian (and, yes, they were both adults a decade out of high school); he was valedictorian of a class of eight.
So I think that sometimes when people who clearly lack education and native smarts brag in their superior intellect.
(Two explaining asides: 1) no, not every homeschool situation results in a shoddy education and no not every homeschooler is there because of religion nor did I say they are and 2) I value education and learning, but I don’t think everyone is well suited for formal and rigorous education. I also value those who do have actual common sense – I just don’t think that many who claim to have it do).

RE: North Korea (this is a long one, hang with me if you can)
Firstly, I want to preface what I’m about to say by acknowledging that the meeting and the handshake were largely symbolic and symbolism DOES matter for the Korean people. Also, it doesn’t matter what we westerners think: the Korean people are largely supportive of the Trump-KJU meeting and they overwhelmingly want peace. We have no business standing in the way of that, as the Korean people are the ones who suffer under this never-ending conflict.
And look, I subscribe to unconditional meetings with foreign adversaries because I think that’s the only way we will ever achieve peace. As such, I supported Trump’s desire to meet with KJU. We all know the quest for world peace isn’t a motivating factor for Trump (because if he cared about that, then why pull out of the Iran Deal?) but if the end result is peace, I don’t care much about what motivates him.

Now that I got that out of the way, I have to bitch about the MSM coverage of the meeting which made me want to smash things. I actually just decided to avoid all coverage of the summit yesterday because the Take-A-Palooza and all the punditry that was occurring before the meeting and during the meeting was just…infuriating.
What drives me especially crazy is how within the news coverage of the meeting is this implicit notion that both of these people are to be trusted. “Liberals shouldn’t be so cynical! We should be applauding the unprecedented meeting and pushing for world peace!”
Right. It’s simply shocking that a compulsive liar who has never shown an interest in world peace or human rights wouldn’t be given the benefit of the doubt.
Said no one ever.
So yeah…I don’t trust NK and I don’t trust 45 and that’s why I’m having trouble celebrating this great meeting of #twodictators. I haven’t seen any proof that there will be verification, unlike the comprehensive Iran Deal.
The sprawling nuclear complex of the North has 20 nuclear weapons (by CIA’s estimate) to 60 nuclear weapons (according to Defense Intelligence Agency’s estimate) spread across the hilly terrain of NK. In order for proper verification to take place, it would require hundreds of international inspectors monitoring NK’s nuclear program. Keep in mind most of these inspectors are westerners who would be essentially snooping on one of the most private, paranoid, and closed societies in the world. I just don’t see KJU allowing that.
And look, I’d be more than happy to be wrong about this. I hope the Korean people find peace, but it’s hard for me to trust a dictator who has made the same promise half a dozen times and through various different reasons, has broken that promise. Sorry but between that and the fact that 45 just came from the G7 Summit, where he essentially berated and mocked our allies after whining about how Russia should have been included well…….call me cynical but I don’t trust 45’s motives and I don’t trust that any real deal was made between the two.
Remember that there was a lot riding on this for BOTH of them. Trump desperately needed a win and KJU desperately needed the international validation that comes from a US meeting. Who knows what was said and agreed to during a one-on-one meeting behind closed doors.
Don’t ever trust. We can’t. If not for the simple fact he spews faux media 24/7, but that same scary imbicile produced a faux media piece shared as truth to our country’s adversary all while insulting foreign dignitaries and allies as well as American entertainers. And oh so much more. He’s as dangerous as giving children loaded weapons. It’s not funny. It’s not cute. And the only way to back out of this nightmare gracefully is his incarceration. He can’t die. He can’t fail to get re-elected. He can’t be anyone’s ammunition from the right. Of course he will be, but sitting in jail paints a picture. He’s revolting.

In all the stories about the “great, historic NK summit” is the implicit acceptance that he is a legitimate President, that he has our best interests in mind, that he is genuinely concerned with our international standing, and that he greatly cares about US foreign policy.
And we KNOW that’s not true. Yet the press will continue to compare him to past presidents and the press will insist on contextualizing his unprecedented and unhinged behavior.
I’m just so f*cking sick of their continual normalization. And I do have sympathy in that I don’t think they have any idea how to adequately cover this “presidency” (I don’t even call it that anymore) because they’ve never seen anything like this before. But I’ll tell you what: pretending that 45 is a normal, reasonable, level-headed President is not the way. It’s just not. Perpetuating this idea that he’s normal is hurting our country.

My first thought after seeing the G7 Russia rant was “So basically Putin told him to say this” and then at the NK summit “Putin wanted this meeting”. And the thing is, I am so far from a conspiracy theorist but how the hell can you not think that at this stage? contrary to prevailing sentiment, i’m guessing that Bob and Don (proper nouns) are about equal in intelligence. otherwise they wouldn’t be squabbling publicly. being illiterate doesn’t make one unintelligent, that’s kind of a classist prejudice based on a western, colonial mentality.
