It’s bad enough that Terry Crews has yet to receive any justice for the assault he experienced at the hands of Adam Venit. But to make matters worse, Terry is still being persecuted for perusing justice on the matter. We learned in February that Terry had been asked to drop his case against Venit or his role in The Expendables 4 would be in jeopardy. Well, guess what – they weren’t kidding. Because Expendables producer, Avi Lerner, is a fellow predator with his own harassment and disparity lawsuit, he decided to protect Venit and go after Terry. But we’ll see who gets the last laugh because Terry just finished testifying at the congressional hearing to pass the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Bill. The fact that he was threatened with ‘troubles’ if he didn’t drop his suit is now a matter of congressional record.
Terry Crews said he was threatened with retaliation for speaking out about a sexual assault by a Hollywood agent, saying the producer of The Expendables 4 warned of vague “troubles” unless he withdraws his civil suit.
In testimony this morning before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Crews said Expendables producer Avi Lerner called his manager and asked that the actor to drop his case against Adam Venit in order to appear in the fourth installment of the action film.
Asked By Sen. Amy Klobuchar asked Crews if he has a role in the sequel.
“No. Simply because this same producer is under his own … investigation,” said Crews. “Abusers protect abusers — and this is one thing I had to decide, whether I was going to draw the line on. Am I going to be a part of this or am I gonna take a stand, and there are projects I had to turn down.”
“Hollywood definitely has been a problem area, simply because so many people view this as a dream. And what happens is, someone has power over these dreams,” Crews said. “And what happens also is that you get tricked into thinking that this type of behavior is expected, that it’s part of the job, that this harassment, abuse, even rape is part of your job description.”
The actor told the Senators he had no plans to speak out about the incident, doubting that law enforcement would take such allegations seriously.
“I probably would have been laughed out of the police station,” Crews said. “A year later, once the #MeToo movement took full swing, it was safe to come out. When you are victimized, you are now behind enemy lines and you are trying to find a way out … You’re trying to find your way to safety. No one around is going to help you. No one is going to believe you.”
Crews said that’s especially true of males who are victimized by other men. He said the predator will dismiss the incident as “horseplay,” and brush off the charges as a joke. “They treat you like a joke.” The actor ultimately felt compelled to take a stand against to prevent others from being victimized.
“What happened to me has happened to many many other men in Hollywood, and since I came forward with my story I have had thousands and thousands of men come to me and say ‘Me too, this is my story. But I did not have the confidence, or I did not feel safe enough, to come out,’” Crews said in testimony. “Because what happens is you get blacklisted, your career is in danger — after that, no one wants to work with you.”
You can read Terry’s full prepared statement on Vulture. It is inconceivable that after the lid was torn off the insidious culture in Hollywood that people are still getting away with this crap. We were told of Lerner’s blackmail against Terry four months ago and yet, Expendables 4 is still going forward, Sylvester Stallone is supposedly still starring in it. Not to mention, that jackass Venit is still gainfully employed at William Morris Endeavor. We’ve learned stories such as Brendan Fraser’s that reinforce how many men have been victimized at the hands of other men.
Validating Terry’s comments about victims being persecuted, rapper 50 Cent, who is being sued for posting revenge porn, mocked Terry on Instagram, posting vile messages along with photos of Terry in two now-deleted posts, which you can see here.
Russell Simmons, who is also under investigation for the rape and assault of at least four women and who asked Terry to give Venit “a pass,” commented on 50 Cent’s first post with a crying laughing face.
Predators protect predators. Terry is risking his career and fighting for victims without power while abusers hurl childish insults at him. Terry handled 50 Cent’s idiocy with class. When asked about the posts, Terry said, “I love 50 Cent, I listen to his music while I’m working out.” When pressed further, Crews added, “I prove that size doesn’t matter when it comes to sexual assault.” This just emphasizes how important it is to keep up the fight. Voices like Terry’s and bills like the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Bill of Rights will help. The author of the bill, RISE founder Amanda Nguyen, was just nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize – chalk one up for the good guys.
I asked @TerryCrews why he didn’t use his considerable strength to fight back when he was sexually assaulted. His answer is a powerful reminder of how victims are too often forced into silence to avoid damaging their careers or reputations. We need to hear the truth. pic.twitter.com/8xSxnhXj91

Who still watches these crappy movies? The first was fun as a gimmick, but that’s where it should have ended.
Yeah I thought the first one was entertaining because it was different and something new, but they aren’t good movies. Terry crews is too good for them
And now Expendables are cancelled for me….
100% Ditto
Shame as I really like Jason Statham..
Yes and, it’ll be some homework, but I’ll figure out any movie Venit and Lerner are involved in and give a pass. Although, these are crap it must be said, but it gives lots of work to stunt doubles.
50 cent and Russell Simmons are terrible people, I hope they get everything that’s coming to them
This is why I am automatically suspicious of anyone who tries making excuses for abusers. At this point, I assume the apologia is a cover-up for their own behavior.
Me too. As a person of color, I would never publicly go against another. We stand together. If it’s something really egregious, perhaps, but these guys should be standing with him. I guess abusers protecting abusers has no color and I shouldn’t be surprised.
I am a movie fan in general I go to the movies almost every Fri depending what’s out but I can promise this I will not be going to see Expendables 4. That being said I applaud Terry Crews for standing up for himself and others even when its hard. He is a big dude and if he did use his strength 1 he would have came across as an abuser 2 he would have came across as a black male abuser. Why he did it wouldn’t have mattered so he did the right thing. I applaud him and the others who have come coward and have spoken up and I just want all the victims Terry included to remember. GOD don’t like ugly I truly believe that that and good prevails over evil sometimes you see it but it always does.
@Kitty
Yes 50 Cent and Simmons are terrible people. Terry Crews and his wife seem like really super nice people from what I’ve seen and read about them. Just the fact that she supported him through one of his greatest challenges and they both came out winning, that’s enough for me. That and the fact that Terry outed his abuser. I’m sure there are more. All kinds of abuse needs to be stopped.
@Marley31, NeedaNap and Lilly
right on, agree totally!
They are, indeed.
Terry is a hero in real life for standing up for himself and other victims. He doesn’t need some crappy sequel.
The rot is so deep with these abusers.
Lol @lucy2 I posted my comment before going back and reading the others and we evidently share the same thought. He really is a stand-up guy and I hope he doesn’t encounter too many obstacles like this one.
Bravery. It’s interesting how for female abuse survivors, the bravery is required because we know that she will be slut-shamed, doubted, mocked, etc. But with male abuse survivors, the bravery is required because we know that he will be emasculated, doubted, mocked, etc.
In either situation, one’s sexuality is weaponized.
On a superficial note, I love his style. He always looks so sharp.
He looks awesome always.
To the rest of this… can’t
Let’s remember that not only the producer of Expendables has accusations againts him, but Stallone as well. Those guys have too many people around them that enable their behaviour and care more about money than about people, as them. That’s why I always cri ge when I see fandoms treating actors as snowflakes that are too good for this world. Men like 50 cent are part of the problem, as all the women that try to imediatily dismiss alegations about sexual abuse when the one accused are their friend or partner. The truth is that many don’t want to talk about sexual abuse. I read too many comments on SM with people saying that is enough, that the Metoo came too far. The truth is that they don’t want to realise how, unfortunately, sexual abuse and assault is common. They prefer to lie to themselves and not see that there is a high probability that all of us have, between our family and friends, someone that is a sexual abuser and that we don’t know. They don’t want to risk as well to have to analise past behaviour and risk noticing that maybe one day in the past they crossed a line and hurt someone in a way they can’t imagine.
I think so much (bad) behavior is so ingrained as “ok”, as “acceptable”, not as assault, harassment etc., that people don’t recognize it as such and it continues.
Think about it: think back in your life, at different comments that were tossed out in the guise of a “compliment” and how you felt (“Wow, look at the fit of that sweater”, or “Your butt looks great in those pants/jeans”… how’d you feel, esp. if it came from the opposite sex… were you uncomfortable at all?).
What if someone touched you in an inappropriate place, without your permission and “Oops, sorry!” with a smirk. How’d you feel?
I know these things happened to me, many times over my life, and I didn’t like it, but I sure didn’t know that these were forms of harassment; these were just accepted, and I sure didn’t know what to do about it (esp. as a younger girl/woman). But I sure as hell learned, that we don’t have to take this crap from ANYONE, and EVERYONE should be held accountable for their abuse of anyone!
So they edited out the only reason to see the movie.
I will always support Terry because of his bravery. I continue to side-eye the clients of the agent who stay silent and pretend they aren’t complicit.
I feel bad for how this is affecting him professionally, but I applaud him for not allowing it to stop him from fighting for what’s right and standing up for himself and others. He doesn’t need some crappy action movie to act like he’s a hero, he’s already a real one.
Is 50 cent even a thing? Isn’t he just a broke bum now? What a fkn loser.
50 cent should concentrate more on his finances then mocking sexual assault victims. He’s always been petty so this is the norm for him. He and Russell Simmons are part of the toxic masculinity that has plagued hip hop for decades. Terry is right and these two just reinforced what he says, predators protect predators.
Terry was just on The Breakfast Club promoting a movie he did with Omari, the star of Power.I wonder if Omari will criticize ,50,his boss, for mocking Terry if it’s brought up in a future interview promoting their movie?
100% with Terry. Also, who is in that bottom picture with him? I love her top, she looks great!
That’s his wife. I forgot her name but she was on a reality show they did of their family some years ago. They have been married for like 30 years
Rebecca King-Crews, and she seems like a powerhouse in her own right. In his Senate testimony, he credited her with coaching him to keep his cool if assaulted, because of the potentially devastating consequences to him as a black man. I doubt either of them expected assault to be sexual and at an industry function.
I didn’t know him before but now I really admire him.
My God. 50 Cent is CANCELLED.
This is why so many men don’t speak out. They’re going against the macho image society shackles them with.
Every single person should walk out on. EX4.
#TeamTerry
What 50 cent posted is so wrong. My husband is big and black and people take notice when he walks into a room. Terry had great self control to keep from punching Venit when he grabbed him. Like Terry said, he would have been portrayed as an angry black man. I’m so happy he’s coming forward and doing this. I bet his wife is wonderful and encouraged him. There are a lot of male victims of abuse out there and seeing a big “manly” guy like Terry come forward will encourage them to do the same.
Yes, if you find a video of his Senate testimony in response to Sen. Feinstein’s question on why he didn’t push back, he states his wife coached him and his “training” kicked in.
Hollywood is rotten to its core. Unbelieveable…
No Crews, no Expendables for me. I’m out.
I’m interrupting to say that I just passed a woman walking wearing a “The Cosby Show” shirt. I kid you not. I live in a pretty upscale neighborhood and I’m sure she had many clothing options this morning. So since we can’t get all women on board to cancel abusers, no wonder people are so often afraid to come forward and speak up about their own abuse.
Goodbye 50 cent. Thanks for the great workout tunes. I just deleted all his music. This pirate has forgotten you. He is dead to me.
Keep telling it, Terry!
Wow, that was powerful.
50 Cent is a RUDE MESS on social media. Inexcusable behavior and thinks it’s so funny being a troll with power. This is not the first time he’s treated a victim like this terribly; see what he did to Teairra Mari. SMH.
I really hope that the rest of the Expendables cast decides to bow out of number 4 in support of Terry. Imho, he’s the best part of this franchise and any movie made without him/his character will be a dud.
terry I will support you in whatever you do! And make space for all victims to be heard, for them to find healing.
Write Wm Morris and Avi Lerner and tell them you won’t being seeing their sh*tty if they don’t back off.
Terry is really brave, this is what bravery looks like.
Damnit! My kids love Incredibles and now this just makes me not want to take them to the movie. Ugh. Other than voting with my dollars, what can I do? I hate that this is happening to Terry. At least Brooklyn 99 has one more season, but this sucks.
Edited for typos
He’s talking about the Expendables, not the Incredibles.
Expendables. Not incredibles.
I will support Terry Crews as much as I can, until the predators and abusers bury themselves under their own rot. I was also happy to see Sen. Amy Klobuchar name on here – while Minnesota has it’s own dumpster fires, I hope our politicians continue to fight the fight.
50 Cent is petty AF and Russell is even worse. I could say I can’t believe that they even decided to comment on Terry’s situation, but I know better.
Smdh, I hope people avoid the movie and let them know why.
Transparent support for abusers!
Speaking of abusers, MJK, lead vocalist of bands like apc and Tool, has rumors about being a rapist. People just don’t wanna believe it. I am a hardcore fan however I do believe her. They are so cancelled for life
Omg Maynard is an abuser too? I mean, the guy always seemed out there to me, but ugh. I remember going to see a perfect circle with an ex circa 2005 maybe. I’m not a die hard fan but I did enjoy a couple of the albums. Oh man…I believe it.
Terry continues show how intelligent and strong he is. He has done everything a survivor should do and is mocked by lesser men and had his job threatened. He has shown lawmakers and the public the reality of sexual assault in our “civilized” society. Sadly, I found myself nodding when reading about people accepting abuse because of their Hollywood dreams. Working in the entertainment business, from production crew to executive, I am ashamed of the number of times I simply ignored colleagues’ comments about others, hearing the “jokes” of who slept with who to get what job. I also ignored jabs about my own sex life, merely putting my head down and working harder to prove them wrong. I hope Terry and all the others who have come forward, and those who haven’t, get justice and peace.
1. How is Russell Simmons still walking out here? I can’t wait for him to be convicted and thrown in jail.
2. I’ve never watched Power or any 50 Cent movie so he is irrelevant
3. Terry is so brave and it’s so unfair that life isn’t fair. Is it not enough that he was abused? Is it not enough that he has to relive the memories through this proceedings? No, I guess not. He has to be threatened, fired and publicly insulted. It breaks my heart and I pray for karma to walk in and sweep the day.
4. Some people have killed their humanity and would rather protect abusers than do right by a good man. Where you should silence the ego, they instead suppressed the conscience. Without a conscience to accuse them, they reckon they can run the world and do as they please, going around hurting others. But right is right even if no one is doing it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it.
I met Russell Simmons almost 10 years ago and he was so nice to me. Makes my stomach roll when I think about what he’s done. There is no excuse for this behavior and trying to make excuses for abusers is vile. I hope Terry finds much success with good, honest people at the helm of his future projects. From one assault survivor to another, thank you, Terry.
I love Terry Crews. He is a bright and shining light. Sending love, strength and thanks to him for his courage along with all of the women (myself included) who are feeling empowered to come out and not to hide. We are almost all of us scarred by toxic masculinity and widespread abuse. I will be silent no more. Baby steps but I am finally speaking out.
This is disappointing.
Hopefully, Terry will continue to thrive and be successful.
How the f- can you mock a victim of sexual assault on a public platform? That’s so so low, it really disgusts me.
I really pray that Terry will have justice and that movie will go to hell.
He has become one of my favorite actors since I started watching Brooklyn 99. It’s a very talented cast, but he still stands out in my opinion. I like him even more now.
