Kim Kardashian says a lot of stupid stuff and she does a lot of dumb things. She’s criticized all the time, and sometimes the criticism is completely legit and sometimes it’s just nit-picking a famous woman who dares to refuse to stay in her lane. A few months ago, Kim Kardashian made a trip to the White House to personally lobby Donald Trump to commute the life sentence of a one-time drug offender. It worked, and I praised Kim for using her power for good. A woman is now free because of Kim’s actions. Kim liked the positivity she got from that, so she’s decided to dig in and do some more work.
After helping to get Alice Johnson released from prison, Kim Kardashian says she’s become deeply involved with criminal justice. And the reality-TV star says she’s already working with the White House to get another felon sprung. In a lengthy appearance on Jason Flom’s “Wrongful Conviction” podcast — due to go live Wednesday and exclusively previewed by Page Six — Kardashian says that she’s been speaking with Chris Young, who was sentenced to life in prison for marijuana and cocaine possession after being arrested in 2010.
“Yesterday, I had a call with a gentleman that’s in prison for a drug case — got life. It’s so unfair. He’s 30 years old. He’s been in for almost 10 years,” she said.
Kardashian says that Young was sentenced to life without parole — for possession of marijuana and half a gram of cocaine — only because of mandatory-sentencing regulations. She also says she’s spoken with former Tennessee Judge Kevin Sharp, who resigned because the law forced him to mete out such a harsh sentence.
“I was on the phone with the judge that sentenced him to life,” said the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star in the sit-down, “who resigned because he had never been on the side of having to do something so unfair, and now he is fighting [alongside] us to get [Young] out.”
Kardashian also said that she talks regularly with President Trump son-in-law and aide, Jared Kushner, whom she called “passionate” about changing sentencing laws.
Kim’s criminal justice crusade reminds me so much of her receipts-dropping of Taylor Swift, as I’ve said before. Kim is a planner – she likes to weigh her options, think about short-term tactics and long-term strategy, and then she executes her plan. My guess is that she realizes that Trump is A) profoundly stupid and B) not going to be in office much longer, and instead of trying to make some huge move for sweeping criminal justice reform, she’s just trying to get Trump to pardon individual people whose stories are easily digestible. I wouldn’t be surprised if she makes another trip to the White House with a short-list of names of people she would like to see pardoned. She’ll do another photo-op and it will happen.
…And just as I wrote that, TMZ reported that Kim is already visiting the White House right now.

If it helps somebody why not
Yes.
When Jolie started on her journey to anointment she was a brother snogging ex heroin addict vampire
Who know where this will go but I’m happy for her to try
I can’t deal with this family, but I do appreciate when famous people use their power to bring about positive change, in big ways or small. She is a gazillionaire whether the public likes her or not, so good on her for taking the time.
OMG. That face. Yikes!
There are plenty of cases of crazy injustice, so if even one can be helped, good.
Classic Kim. Everyone’s happy about Nike, so she thought it would be a good time for another chapter of performative wokeness. If she succeeds, great, but let’s not pretend she really cares beyond polishing her public image.
Agree. Didn’t Trump just come out and say what a wonderful wife she is? She fits his image of what a wife should look like.
I disagree. I believe you can be many, many things at once. I also believe that you can learn a lot as you progress and also crucially from your mistakes.
She is all kinds of wrong in some agrees but increasingly I see good and growth.
I’m just as bored by the assumption that she is purely obsessed with image and brand. It feels reductive es0ecially in the face of her growth.
What she’s doing…moves me not in the least…it’s just another example of putting a dollar store, dirty band-aid on an infecting, life destroying wound….If she was REALLY about that life…she would be working to make REAL change with a justice system that is WHOLLY built on injustice (and racism, classicism, sexism)…highlight the fact that the Courts in several states are running a Debtors Prison system…Talk about how voting rights aren’t being restored AFTER you’ve been penalized…work with ESTABLISHED organizations to get wrongly jailed people, innocent of any crimes out…
Her trading her 1% access for a favor from the most despicable inhuman being I have seen in MY lifetime…is disgusting and so very…Khardashian…
Yup. It’s all for show.
Sure it is. She probably bought another “school marm” suit and needed a place to wear it.
If she is able to help then good for her. However, it upsets me how many people have been working for YEARS on prison reform and would NEVER be able to get a meeting with any president. It seems like she’s just able to walk right in like the White House is her second home. Other people do most of the work, but Kim gets all the praise. That really isn’t fair. But I guess as long as in the end, someone is being helped…we’ll have to deal with Kim acting as if she’s the new Prison Jesus.
OK, ME, we need to adopt Prison Jesus for these stories!!!!! Too funny.
Im not American, but this does seem like a broken system. Stay in prison until a famous reality star in prison takes an interest and drops a word into the ear of the president? And the fact that she has his ear over advocates, experts etc etc?
I think working on the general issue would be way beyond her skill set.
But she can handle being the public face of efforts for a particular individual. That’s why organizations like to have celebrities involved in their events. The camera follows them, it becomes news. In this case – maybe a 30 year old doesn’t have to spend his life in prison. That’s a good thing.
I prefer to encourage her to do what she can, and this is what she’s capable of. I don’t expect her to magically become able to do things that take years of focus and dedication and ability to deal with complex issues.
And with this particular President, she is perfect for the job.
