Last night was the Washington – ??? – premiere of First Man, which must have been crazy. To hold a premiere in Washington DC, on the eve of one of the most historic Senate votes in a generation, all while thousands of protesters have descended on the city to disrupt. For some reason, I want to believe that both Claire Foy and Ryan Gosling calmly attended the premiere, then skipped out of the post-premiere party so they could both join the protesters and wave some signs. I know that probably didn’t happen, but I want to believe it.
For the big premiere, Claire wore this marigold/saffron colored Oscar de la Renta gown. Sigh… I have a thing about yellow and orange shades on the red carpet. I feel like only a very slim majority of them actually work out, and those shades look terrible on the majority of women would look better in a different color. I have to admit though… this color, on its own, doesn’t look bad on Claire. My issue with her look is that she chose the wrong lipstick shade and the wrong hair. A deep red lip would have been amazing – the pink lip is distracting. And her hair is short now, and she’s been doing a more severe, slicked-back look for many appearances. I think that would have worked well with this.
I do think it’s charming that Claire and Ryan coordinated their looks though. Eva Mendes still doesn’t walk red carpets with Ryan, so Claire and Ryan – who play Janet and Neil Armstrong – are doing the “we’re each other’s dates” thing for all of their red carpets. It’s cute.

That weird tuft of fabric on the shoulder distracts from the rest of the dress.
For me it’s that little slice of stomach. I don’t mind the shoulder tuft. The color is great, though.
Yeah, that tummy peekaboo is the worst part for me, too. I love Claire, and that marigold color is beautiful on her, but I don’t love that style on her. The dress swallows her up.
I hate that! It never, ever looks good.
Agree with all the above posters, and I don’t think the waist hits flatteringly either. The color’s striking, though!
Definitely not enamoured of that. It might have worked if it were in a muted pastel, but this colour and the texture and the cut don’t need another thing added.
I never really knew who Claire Foy was other than knowing she was in the crown, but I got to say that I’m loving seeing her everywhere with promotion of this movie. She is someone I want to know more about. I guess I’m finally going to have to watch the crown now
Boo radley I came here to type the exact same thing. She’s interesting, she’s not your typical “hey look at my cleavage” red carpet presence and I think she’s one to watch.. she gives me care Blanchett vibes.
I’m quite late to the party since I’ve just finished the two seasons of The Crown. She’s very good in it. She conveys so many emotions through her facial expressions without saying a lot of dialogue which really impresses me. The whole cast is also great too.
The color is amazing on her and makes her eyes pop so beautifully!
I’d really like to slap her stylist for that awful lipstick shade though. What were they thinking going with this neon orangey red? A deep red or even a neutral lip would have worked so much better!
Nope. Don’t like her styling at all. But I love her as an actress. I’ve seen a lot of her work as she tends to be in shows I gravitate toward.
their colour coordinated outfits look so cute
I totally agree about the lipstick clashing with the color of the dress, but I also think that dress color looks awful with her skin tone. And I was hoping the random cut out days were over!
