Karlie Kloss was very careful when answering some questions about Taylor Swift

'Project Runway' TV show premiere - Arrivals

Throughout much of 2017 and 2018, I was sort of obsessed with the theories about Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift and whether they were still friends. The rumors about their falling out reached a fever pitch last summer, when all of Karlie’s friends were congratulating her on her engagement and Taylor Swift was silent as the f–king grave. I still believe Taylor and Karlie fell out and it was a huge deal. I also believe that after those stories took hold, Karlie and Tay did at least one photo-op to “disprove” the theories. In Taylor’s recent Elle essay, she talked a lot about the end of her squad and figuring out the difference between real friendships and “situationships.” It felt like a massive subtweet to Karlie.

So, Karlie has been promoting the return of Project Runway on Bravo all week. The show premiered last night, and after it aired, Karlie and Christian Siriano appeared on Watch What Happens Live. Andy Cohen asked her about Taylor’s Elle essay and the whole thing was very… careful. Cautious. Karlie told Andy: “Taylor’s incredible. And I feel really lucky to call her a friend. She’s one of the hardest-working women and I loved her essay.” Here’s the video:

Maybe I’m just primed for drama or whatever, but I feel like Karlie knew that we would be watching her face very carefully and you can see her choosing her words. Sorry, I still think they basically hate each other now. And I still want to know what happened, because it really did feel like a DRAMATIC falling out.

There were some articles not long ago casting some doubt on Karlie attending NYU. Too bad she wasnt asked about this after the scandal concerning wealthy people and their cheating to attend college.

This! I read about that too yet never any follow up from any sites?? She loves to promote herself as a pioneer in promoting STEM and how she was attending NYU to grow as a person annnnnd she might not even really be attending?? We need answers!!!! 😉

I’ve worked in higher ed for nearly two decades, so I took a quick look at this. She was accepted into NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I have no real knowledge of Gallatin, only gossip about it from the Ivy I worked at. That was mostly a faculty member jealous of NYU for having found a brilliant solution for the kids of really rich parents who are bright but were either not motivated enough or lacked the executive function skill to have had the high school career that ends with acceptance at a prestigious university. Turn the 60’s era hippy relic Gallatin into a formal “Individualized Study” program. Accept the rich kids. Have a program where a student who takes advantage of what is available gets a really good (if way too expensive) education. For students who don’t take advantage, have a very lenient policy on kicking people out and cash their checks for their $100,000+ a year tuition and laugh all the way to the bank.

I have no doubt that Karlie Kloss could successfully handle the workload at NYU, especially at Gallatin. She has at least managed to meet their minimum standards. Based on my knowledge of other schools, my guess is that Gallatin knows how many “serious” students they can handle and that their target enrollment is that number plus as many rich kids as fit that particular admissions profile. The movie stars and CEO’s kids at Gallatin are not taking an admissions slot away from anyone. They are gravy on top. Whether that is its own sort of exploitation is a different question. NYU is well known for treating its students as cash cows, playing up the desire of suburban kids to escape to New York City to charge them tuition which will stunt their entire future life. (Not just NYU, but they are especially brazen.)

This was interesting and informative, thank you for posting.

        Very insightful, thank you.

Gallatin grad (and longtime lurker) here to put up a mild defense of my wildly overpriced degree! The school isn’t for everyone, but I chose it specifically because I knew what I wanted to study, and taking general education requirements like Biology when I’d already spent plenty of time in high school establishing my relative ineptitude re: hard sciences seemed like a waste of time and credits to me. I could have gone to a more “prestigious” school, but Gallatin offered small class sizes (16 max) and greater opportunity to pursue my academic interests.

NYU deserves its reputation for treating its students like cash cows, and I CERTAINLY regret the amount of debt my shortsighted younger self agreed to take on, but I’m sick of the Karlie Klosses and Olsen twins of the world giving my alma mater a bad name!!

(And FWIW I hear the Sprouse twins were great students.)

I know a few friends who went to Gallatin. A) They were definitely not rich. B) They did not fit a mold and wanted to create their own major. That’s what Gallatin is good for — highly motivated students who want to create their own majors and have an area of interest that doesn’t fall within the confines of the usual majors.

I went to NYU and the truth of this was widely known. If you are a nontraditional student or are after a unique set of experiences – it’s an awesome, one-of-a-kind program. If you are just a rich dummy – NYU will gladly take your money. I was in the College of Arts and Sciences on academic scholarship and I appreciated all the trips abroad the rich dummies bought me. All love.

I am a Gallatin grad. It was actually originally designed for mature adults returning back to university to provide an alternative, more self-directed form of study. Today, it provides the opportunity to attend a small liberal arts within a very large university. You get the chance to have smaller classes within Gallatin and the opportunity to take classes in any of the other colleges. That is why it is called “university without walls.” My classmates were from very diverse backgrounds, and I would say there were a substantial number from the NYC public school system, Queens and the Bronx (including myself here). NYU does have a General Studies Program, which is for students who are a little below admissions standards but have other talents and perhaps legacies. It is only 2 years and then you need to re-apply with your GPA to another college within NYU.

Why would they hate each other now ? I’m sure they are still friends but not as close as they were . I think they just don’t hang out in public because of the Kaylor stuff .

  3. Miles says:

I don’t know. I don’t think there was a huge fall out but I do believe they grew apart which is a normal part of growing older. Some people you stay friends with forever and some like Taylor said are situationships which is pretty normal. I have friends that I’m still best friends with and I have friends that I’ve grown apart from after a period of my life. Nothing to me indicates that they hate one another to be honest.

    • lucy2 says:

I think this is likely the truth.
Were they both single when they were super close? Sometimes friendships fade a bit when one or both parties starts dating someone seriously.
Also, Taylor seems like one who is a bit of a user, and is someone’s BFF while it suits her.

  4. Lightpurple says:

Her sister-in-Law Nagini tried to make her Project Runway reboot all about herself with a video of herself in front of a TV.

  5. Darla says:

I don’t care. I look at her and all I see is Kushner. Frankly, Taylor looks great next to this trick.

    • SKF says:

She cannot help who her in-laws are. She and her husband have both come out as democrats and in strong support of a lot of things that are directly in opposition to Trump. I find this line of thinking really disturbing.

  6. Steph says:

There was a pic of Taylor and Karlie on her bachelorette party with karlies sisters

  7. Lizzie says:

i’m not a taylor fan but maybe she doesn’t like rubbing elbows with wendy deng and the kushners? when i was in the 20’s i broke up with my best friend b/c i didn’t like who she became when she met her husband and got married. he was a prick and his friends were awful and my friend inexplicably fit right in. it was a side of her that in six years of friendship i couldn’t have imagined. i was there for her but she was just as happy to let me go once she was married as i was to be rid of her. i think these two grew up and turned out different. it happens.

    • Cindy says:

I agree it could be this and I had this EXACT situation happen with a friend of mine, except she didn’t marry the guy (yet, at least).

I think it’s important to remember Karlie and Taylor were both incredibly busy women with jobs that required traveling around a lot, so it’s not like they were inseparable high school BFFs either.

    • Sarah says:

I completely agree. I had the same thing happen to me. My best friend got together with this guy and just changed so much and not for the better. It eventually dawned on me that I was nothing more than her sounding board for their drama and I slowly phased her out and to my surprise she wasn’t missed. You get older and realize life is too short to spend your time with people who bring nothing to the table or are a chore to be around. Sometimes its not drama, it’s just natural progression.

  8. Cindy says:

If there really was some huge beef between them I’m sure Taylor would’ve written a song about it.

  9. adastraperaspera says:

    Married to a Kushner? Cancelled.

    • Fluffy Princess says:

I wonder if this had anything to do with it, due to Taylor’s “Get out the vote” she did last November against the party of Jared?

    • hkk says:

Yes, I really think Taylor was like, they are the DEVIL! And Karlie was like, whatever I’m rich and famous and now I’ll be powerful too. Also, sometimes figuring out who we are comes at moments like this when we see a situation and realize, that is not me. For Taylor this may be what happened and what helped to spark her realization that she needed to be on the right side of history.

  10. Case says:

I think they probably just grew apart, like many people do in their 20s. I’m in my 20s and my friendships have shifted so much in the past few years — so many of my friends have changed, and I’m sure I have, too. It happens, and it doesn’t always mean drama was involved.

  11. CindyP says:

I just can’t get past her being married to Jared Kushner’s brother Joshua. Ivanka better not be a guest judge

  12. mycomment says:

eh, who cares about swift. she needs to be asked about her in-laws. and has she been pawed by dotard.

  13. Harryg says:

I happened to watch a bit of it and didn’t really like they way it looked, as if they were in some windowless studio, or basement. I like Siriano though.

  14. Nacho_friend says:

I think they were lovers and they broke up bc one was getting jealous.

    • BlahBlah says:

I think this as well, minus the jealousy. Their immediate adoration of each other, the Vogue spread, their physical closeness…

  15. Nev says:

I will really miss the original Project Runway. I need Heidi and Tim and Nina all
    Together. What a bummer.

  16. Elle says:

I think too many people thought they were dating (which might be true and it might not), so Taylor’s publicist told them to stop being seen everywhere together/holding hands/doing magazine spreads together.
