Priyanka Chopra & Duchess Meghan ‘are still very close friends & talk frequently’

Priyanka Chopra exits after a taping of Watch What Happens Live

Priyanka Chopra has been in New York this week to promote…?? Her latest film, Isn’t It Romantic, came out over a month ago. She doesn’t have any other films or TV shows she’s promoting. So I don’t know – it’s possible she’s just promoting her various sponsorships and beauty contracts and such. Anyway, considering how many interviews Priyanka has done this week, I’m a little bit surprised that no one has asked her directly about her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex and whether they’re still friends. Several weeks back, Page Six’s sources claimed that Priyanka is super-mad that Meghan didn’t go to any of Priyanka’s 102 weddings and that’s why Priyanka didn’t go to New York for Meghan’s baby shower. I thought there was something there, especially considering Priyanka seemed to skip Meg’s baby shower for no real reason (Priyanka had vague things to do in LA). Now E! News’ sources say that Priyanka and Meghan are totally fine.

Many have speculated the besties are experiencing a fall out, but that couldn’t be further from the truth, according to a source.

“All the rumors that Priyanka and Meghan aren’t friends anymore are totally not true,” a source tells E! News. “Priyanka and Meghan are still very close friends and they talk frequently.” The insider adds, “Meghan confides in Priyanka about the adjustments she has to make with being a royal.”

For those unfamiliar, rumors began swirling their friendship was crumbling when the former Suits actress didn’t attend Chopra and Nick Jonas’ wedding in January. To fuel the rumors even more, the 36-year-old actress was surprisingly absent from the Duchess of Sussex’s New York City baby shower in February.

“Just because Priyanka didn’t go to the shower, or that Meghan couldn’t come to her wedding(s), doesn’t mean anything about their friendship,” the source explains to E! News. “They’re still very close friends and Meghan considers Priyanka one of her closest confidants.”

[From E! News]

Yeah, sorry I still don’t believe it until it comes from Priyanka. I still think there was something to the Page Six story, although I’m not 100% sure it’s about Priyanka being “mad” that Meghan didn’t come to any of Pri’s weddings. I think it’s more about levels of fame and someone being mad that Meghan is getting so much attention now.

Meanwhile, Priyanka appeared on The View on Tuesday and she talked about how she can’t cook and she told Nick Jonas that when he proposed. She told The View: “I can’t cook. And I told him that when he proposed. I was like, ‘Listen, you’re from a good southern home, you’re used to your mom making you amazing food. You’re not marrying that girl. I cannot cook. I can make eggs, also sporadically, maybe at night.’ I’m a terrible, terrible wife in that sense, but the most amazing thing when I told him that, ‘Babe, I can’t cook and I hope you know that,’ he said, ‘It’s alright babe, neither can I.’” I don’t get the “I can’t cook at all” people and I never have. I mean, you don’t have to be a professional chef nor is it required to love being in the kitchen, but knowing how to cook a dozen meals is just part of f–king adulting. Stick some lemons up a chicken and throw it in the oven. Know how to cook pasta. Take the two minutes to learn how to fry bacon.

I didn’t learn to cook until I moved out and HAD to learn

    • Some chick says:

+1 Cooking isn’t trivial. I bought a couple of cookbooks and taught myself, as an adult. It was quite the project!

    • sequinedheart says:

The subtext of her comment is: I DON’T / WON’T cook. and she married someone whose mom wiped/still wipes his ass for him so they get each other. it’s real cute….

  2. Honeybadger says:

I tell people I can’t cook because I hate to. I also hate my kitchen.

    • Mia says:

my kitchen is 18×24 and I hate it. I’m starting to like baking again, as long as it’s simple.

    • Still_Sarah says:

There is a line from the movie “Man of the House” where Tommy Lee Jones’ character is told he doesn’t know how to talk to women. He replies “I CAN talk to women – I CHOOSE not to”.

For me, just insert the word “cook” for “talk to women” and you have it. I CAN cook – I CHOOSE not to.

  3. IlsaLund says:

I always told my kids that “if you can read and follow directions, then you can cook.” It’s not hard to learn how to make a few basic staples to feed yourself.

  4. Who ARE these people? says:

Pretty sure my cooking ability wasn’t on the list of reasons my husband wanted to marry me.

  5. Cidy says:

I tell people I cant cook because I hate it.

I really dont think there is that much drama between Chopra and Meg. I like to think that grown women act more rational than the media portrays them to be.

  6. Muffy says:

    She seems exhausting.

  7. vanna says:

I hate cooking, because I don’t have a dishwasher and I live alone and the effort to prep and clean is too high, so I avoid it at all costs. I am also not that good with seasoning – always underseasoned. There is also a reverse psychology thing going on I think. I watched my mum provide and cook daily, she was a stay at home mum. I aspired to not end up like a housemaid so I am afraid thats a factor too haha.

    • Eliza says:

I like cooking, but hated it living alone. It’s really hard to get recipes “right” for 1. Eventually, I just started cooking multiple items on Sunday and mix-n-matching them for the week. If I was lazy Id go to the butcher and buy the premarinated meats so I just had to cook that and match with the starch / veg I already made.

  8. Eliza says:

Eh, if I had to pick, I’d take Priyanka’s “less” famous but free to do, say, and wear what I want. I am not envious of Meghan for all her perks, because she will be criticized every day of the rest of her life. I doubt Priyanka is either. I’m sure they’re fine.

  9. Chisey says:

I can’t cook. If that means not adulting 🤷‍♀️. Honestly as far as adulting failures go, my inability to cook doesn’t cause me any stress. I just don’t care. I can scramble an egg, which is the only “cooking” I require – I get by fine just reheating frozen stuff from the grocery store or eating sandwiches. If eating a home cooked meal was important to me I’d learn, but it’s not, so I don’t. There are just so many other things I’d prefer to do with my time.

    • Amelie says:

I honestly thought I would end up this way, eating frozen food and sandwiches for the rest of my life. I had zero interest in cooking as a kid and I was so spoiled by a French dad who loves to cook. I didn’t “learn” to cook until I moved to Spain for grad school…
I had never so much even boiled a pot of rice. So it took moving to a new country and navigating a foreign grocery store to make me learn. Eating Spanish frozen food every day would have been awful. But I’m so glad I learned. You can’t have a healthy diet if you’re just reheating frozen food and sandwiches. It sounds so iron deficient. It’s really not complicated to boil a pot of pasta and making soups are so easy. And with Youtube tutorials (Laura in the Kitchen is my jam) learning to cook is easier than ever so there’s really no good excuse apart from “I don’t feel like it.” I totally get it as I still don’t love to cook but at least I know how.

    • Thelma says:

Not being judgey at all but can’t imagine living off frozen food and sandwiches when fresh food tastes so much better and is better for your health. I work full time outside the home and had three kids and may have had frozen food once a month. Hubby was grocery shopper, chopper in chief and cleaned up(he has like three go to dishes). I started cooking at age 11…my first soup had so much salt, we had to throw it away. There are many fool proof recipes. But to each his or her own.but for those who are interested but think it might be difficult, don’t despair. JMHO.

  10. Lara says:

But they’re totally ok you guys

  11. Lily says:

The media has an obsession with pitting women against each other. MAYBE Priyanka was upset Meghan didn’t attend her wedding SO WHAT?it’s just an emotion, one she is entitled to feel…but thats not enough for tabloids so there must be a feud. Ridiculous!

  12. Teach says:

Nick is from New Jersey…. what good Southern home is he from?

  13. Gil says:

My grandma always told me I had to learn how to cook in order to feed my future husband. I couldn’t care less about my future husband I just wanted to feed my gluttonous heart. That is why I learned how to cook. I love delicious homemade food and I love to cook for myself. If that food makes people around me happy that is a plus.

And you are right Kaiser cooking is part of adulting.

  14. Erinn says:

I think if I lived in a city I’d cook a hell of a lot less. We cook because there’s no real allure of quick, cheap food nearby. We have to get in the car and drive at least 15-20 minutes to get to a restaurant. And it’s a small town, so it’s not like there’s a HUGE diverse group of restaurants.

I started a couple of years into university but before that I could cook pancakes, and I could bake. I just never really bothered to cook meals until then.

  15. Pandy says:

So … you dated for a while and he never knew you couldn’t cook? You had to tell him when he proposed? Celebrities – they’re just like us!

  16. SK says:

I normally agree with this sentiment: everyone should be able to cook a few basic things. In this case though I will give her a slight pass. In India, shopping for food and cooking is pretty much a full time job. If you have the money to have any help then you almost definitely have a cook who spends all day going to the markets and then preparing food. Considering how cheap hired help is in India, I’ll bet she grew up with a cook.

  17. SV says:

Looks like internet clickbait to me. Throw two incredibly famous women in an article to get a click from both fanbases and their trolls. While they have never been best friends I would imagine they do confide in any each other. Priyanka like Meghan lives with 24 hour security, particularly when she is in India. Priyanka is also consistently attacked by right wing elements in India. And now Priyanka like Meghan has the experience of being a person of color married to one of the white imaginary internet husbands and all the racsim and trolling that comes with that. And of course they still have their common charity focus on girl’s education and women’s empowerment that helped them become friends in the first place.

  18. Becks1 says:

I can understand not “liking” to cook (I love it), but I cant understand not being able to cook. Not everyone has to be Julia Child. But learning the basics is just part of life IMO. I guess if you are rich though you can just ignore that part of it.

    • Clare says:

Funny you say that – I don’t like to cook and will usually just say I can’t cook. I mean I can, if I have to, throw together a couple of things that I grew up watching my mum make…but I don’t have the instinct and definitly require a recipe and a phone call with mum if making anything more complex than scrambled eggs or basic pasta. And guess what, fully fledged, vaguely successful adult here!

      • Becks1 says:

I love to cook like I said, but I still need a recipe probably 99% of the time. It’s not instinctual for me at all.

My SIL hates to cook and she just admits it. They eat out 99% of their meals, which I would hate, but she doesn’t enjoy cooking so she doesn’t.

    • Ripley says:

I’ve literally burnt water, messed up Rice Krispie treats and my older son can tell if I’ve made the pasta or my husband has. (He refuses to eat the PLAIN PASTA when I’ve made it…) At this stage, I’m keeping my boys alive reheating meals made by my husband or ‘making’ chicken popcorn. I have neither the inclination nor the encouragement to like or to actually cook. And. I’m okay with that.

I’m college educated, very successful and. Nope, can’t cook.

    • insertpunhere says:

I think part of “I can’t cook” is people having different definitions of what that means. In my family, I can’t cook because I mostly follow recipes, and the majority of my family is very good at winging it and putting together something fabulous. I would guess that in many other families, I’d be considered a good to very good cook, based on the response I get when I bring things in to work.

I can absolutely follow a recipe, I have a number of things that I cook based on memory alone, and I have a handful of recipes I created, but compared to the rest of my family? I can’t cook.

  19. Mia says:

Speaking of cooking. I went to Fridays yesterday and had the Miso salmon. Would someone recommend a recipe with a sweet sauce for salmon. Something simple that an idiot (me) wouldn’t mess up. I would appreciate it

    • Becks1 says:

My mom makes salmon with maple syrup and mustard. Put the salmon in foil, pour some mustard on top and spread it around, pour some syrup around, close up the foil and bake – think she does it at 400. She’s made it this way for YEARS and then a few months ago NYT actually posted that same recipe lol.

Here, this is basically it, except she uses maple syrup and not brown sugar.

    • jan90067 says:

On my salmon, I put a generous amount of minced garlic (you can buy it already minced in a jar or squeeze bottle!), shake on some of Chef Prudhomme’s Blackened Red Fish Magic Seasoning (like a Cajun spice, use more or less depending on how spicy you like it), and then, top it off on top with swirls of Balsamic Glaze (different than vinegar!!) over the length of the fillet. Then I broil, for about 18 min. (I have an electric oven, or grill, if the weather’s nice). No turning required. OH. MY. GOD. IT IS TO DIE FOR! EVERYONE I make it for swoons!.

      Enjoy 😊

    • Annalise says:

Maple and Miso Salmon! (I cook the salmon and green beans separately as I find the green beans take a little longer to cook.) https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1019857-maple-and-miso-sheet-pan-salmon-with-green-beans

  20. Valiantly Varnished says:

Meh. I can cook but I dont like doing it – at least not in my current tiny kitchen. And so I don’t. I also hate doing laundry. So I don’t. I use a laundry service. I also hate cleaning. Which I now currently do but we have decided to get a cleaner to come in once or twice a month and do it for us.

As a 38 year old (soon to be 39 in June) woman I have come to the conclusion that adulting is hard enough and if you can take crap like cooking, cleaning and laundry off your plate then it’s worth doing so. If I could afford to have a chef cool me weekly meals that I just had to re-heat that would be perfection.

  21. Clare says:

Personally, I think a lot of the anti Priyanka gossip comes from people who can’t stand a to see a brown woman who has the balls to hustle and sell whatever people will buy. I mean, how dare a brown woman make $$ by selling her fame.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

Agreed. She’s a hustler. But then so are all the blonde Hollywood Beckys who never get bad press for it.

      • Meg says:

What other celebrities had sponsorship for their bachelor and bachelorette parties? I’m not being snarky, genuinely I’m curious who else did that?

    • Jayna says:

I stopped by my sister’s yesterday. She DVR’d The View. So we watched it. She didn’t know who she was but was blown away by her beauty. I thought she really came across well on The View. She was poised, beautiful, intelligent, and interesting. After the interview, I could see why she and Meghan are friends. And that’s a compliment.

And I admire Priyanka’s hustle, also.

And I have to add that I loved the Jonas Brothers’ new single. It’s so catchy. But that music video was so intertaining. Loved the women in it.

    • Clare says:

@Meg pretty much every B list celeb has some part of their life, including weddings sponsored. Pretty sure part of Lea Michelle’s bachelorette was sponsored. I mean, even Serena Williams had part of her wedding reception sponsored (I think it was the bar? I can’t remember the details) right? Even the Sussex wedding allegedly has a bar sponsored by casamigos. I’m sure if you do a google search for sponsored events/weddings of b list celebs you’ll get more detailed answers…

I’m not saying her hustle isn’t intense – just that she gets a LOT of hate, and I think at least part of that is rooted in her being brown+a hustler.

  22. Embee says:

Anyone can cook if they have minimal amounts of intelligence, but some prefer not to cook. Which is fine. We all have certain tasks we avoid if we can afford to…I don’t clean. I can, I just don’t, because I can afford to hire someone to do it for me and I don’t get wrapped around the axle about a bit of dust in the intervening week. But it’s silly to say you can’t cook. Of course you can. Own your choices.

    • Wisca says:

It’s like laundry in that way. Some folks hire someone, drop it off somewhere, or dry clean as much as possible. Others just love laundry day!

  23. LivePlantsCleanAir says:

I’m an ADHD’er….even with timers and the like, I tend to have more fails than successes. Nevertheless….when I put one of my efforts in front of my kid and he says What’s this I use Jennifer Lopez’s character’s line from “Enough”……”.it’s food”…..and we’re done. My son is now actually a better cook than I am…I often say he learnt in self-defense! My sister has a gift and can make a peanut butter sandwich seem exotic…me, not so much. On the other hand, I can grow a great garden and she can’t grow squat. We are all different. We are all the same. We are humans with different and various gifts. Know yours, use yours and wherever possible, share yours.

  24. KSias says:

Nick’s dad is from a small town in North Carolina where his parents now live and own a restaurant.

  25. Meg says:

I realize she’s extremely famous in India but did she really think she’d be more famous than whoever married prince Harry let alone someone as well spoken hard working and engaged in the issues as meg? Thats absurd

    • Eliza says:

My husband didn’t know who Meghan Markle was last night when Amy Schumer mentioned her in her stand up special. I was like Prince Harry’s wife, duh!! I doubt he knows either but might recognize Priyanka from the Quantico commercials, we didn’t get far enough into Baywatch to see her really. So probably not.

  26. paranormalgirl says:

When I was growing up, the sisters taught us to master a few dishes: one beef, one chicken, one vegetarian, steamed or roasted vegetables, and one pasta. And from there we could expand our repertoire of meals with simple additions and small changes. So I learned to make a simple roast beef, pan fried chicken cutlets, aloo gobi, and spaghetti. Now I can pretty much cook anything! It’s not my favorite thing in the world but I can toss together chicken francaise with roasted asparagus and shallots in no time at all. Oh, and I am madly in love with my instant pot.

  27. Jamie says:

If only someone would put together a step by step manual for cooking various foods….

  28. lamaga18 says:

How can people not cook? Honest question.

  29. Bahare says:

I can cook but grew to dislike it with the what can I make for dinner with kids and a husband who was doing a high labor job 10 hrs per day. Now that kid is gone and grown and cooks for his wife my husband has started cooking and enjoys it. Baking is another story.Love to bake and love to eat what I bake but with just 2 of us and everyone on some kind of diet it’s tough especially because I’m still the more butter the better. Love it.
