I honestly don’t know much about Bob Fosse’s life, so I guess I’ll probably check out this FX miniseries, Fosse/Verdon. It’s the true story of Bob Fosse’s relationship with and marriage to Gwen Verdon, and how they collaborated with each other and made each other better during the course of their careers, even though their personal relationship could be messy AF. Sam Rockwell plays Bob Fosse and Michelle Williams plays Gwen Verdon. Here’s the trailer:
It looks good, minus the bad wig work on Michelle. Maybe Gwen Verdon wore bad wigs in real life, who knows. Sam is an Oscar winner, remember that? He won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2018. Michelle is an Oscar-nominated actress making her grand return to television (yes, I still remember Dawson’s Creek, peeps). The series starts tonight!!
Anyway, the premiere was last night and Sam and Michelle seemed to have gotten through the eight-part miniseries without killing each other. They even seem to like each other a lot. Michelle wore a surprisingly good Louis Vuitton gown. I still feel like her hair is too white-blonde. But I’ve gotten used to how she loves to look so washed out.
Oh, Lin Manuel Miranda was there! He helped adapt the biography of Fosse and he’s an executive producer on the project.
Jon Hamm was there too (he’s not in the series).

I don’t like the dress. The detailing looks cheap to me and I hate the drop inverted V waistline.
Same, I think it looks extremely cheap.
That white blonde isn’t good on her , I love the hair cut but how good would it look in a darker blonde/brown ?
Oh lordy, Jon looks rough af. I hope he’s okay.
His Hammbone seems to be happy front and center. He probably just stumbled out of a bar.
Yeah he hasn’t looked the same since his breakup.
omg I thought he looked familiar but I didn’t recognize him! yikes.
As far as LV dresses go it’s great, but overall…it’s fine.
I like both her and Sam, I’ll have to check this out.
Hamm does not look good.
Their daughter Nicole was also a creative consultant on the show.
Bob Fosse was a legend and really ahead of this time when it comes to choreography, from Sweet Charity, Cabaret, and Chicago to name a few. He was also a notorious womanizer.
If you wanna see where Michael Jackson got a lot of his moves from, check out Fosse’s appearance in the 1974 movie “The Little Prince” there is a clip of it on YouTube
I can’t wait to see this show! The dancing will be amazing, and it looks gorgeously filmed. “A friend of a friend” worked on this, so I’ve seen some set shots, and I am giddy about the dancing.
The story of Fosse’s marriage to Verdon already exists – it’s called All That Jazz, and Fosse wrote and directed it himself.
And Verdon never wore the kind of fright wig Williams is wearing in this film – watch her dance with Fosse in Damn Yankees (mambo number) for corroboration. Which brings up another beef I have with this: the time period Fosse covered in All That Jazz was almost at the end of his life, so he wasn’t doing much dancing, but apparently this film is set much earlier – so why didn’t they cast leads who can DANCE? Watching Rockwell & Williams fake it is painful.
I don’t get FX but I’ll have to find this because I love the whole Fosse/Verdon story.
I’m sick of her look. She’s had it for so long. I know she doesn’t care what I think, but I wish she’d try something new.
Yeah, I just dont like the ultra blonde pixie cut. She looks prettier with the Verdon color.
I’m so excited about this! Bob Fosse was so brilliant and soooooooo messed up. And Gwen Verdon was a legend in her own right who never got the credit she deserved for creating the Fosse ‘style’ and preserving it after the great man passed. Anyone who has seen ‘All That Jazz’ (brilliant and criminally underappreciated) knows their story.
